Small-Med Ships Exchange Signups Open

It’s time for the Daomu Biji Small-Med Ships Exchange, a fic, art and vid exchange for DMBJ ships where more than 3% of English-language authors have posted fics on AO3.

In this exchange, participants will be anonymously matched to create gifts for one another during a six week creating period.

This exchange is open to all the DMBJ canons - if it’s DMBJ, then it’s eligible! It will take place on AO3, so you need an AO3 account to participate – if you don’t have one, you can request an invitation code here. Allowed Ships

Any DMBJ ship (other than pingxie or heihua) which, as of April 24, 2023, has had more than 3% of English-language authors post fics for it on AO3.

Guidelines

1. Your creation must focus on your recipient’s requested ship (or one of their requested ships, if they have nominated multiple ones). While unrequested background ships are fine (unless listed as a Do Not Want), the focused ship must only be one of the requested ones. 2. You will be expected to create a gift matching your recipient’s request. Filling any specifying prompts is not obligatory, but try to create something you honestly think your recipient will enjoy! 3. You must not include anything that your recipient has listed as a DNW (Do Not Want). This goes for treats as well. 4. The minimum requirements for the gifts are 300 words for fic, one sketch on unlined paper for art (traditional or digital; no manips), or 30 seconds for a vid. 5. After the matching is done, all the requests will be made visible to everyone to allow for treating! There are no minimum requirements for treats (but remember to mind your recipient’s do not wants!). You can also create manips and fanvids for treats. 6. This is an anonymous exchange: refrain from discussing your assignment in public. After the works are revealed, there’ll be one week anon period when the creators remain anonymous before the creator reveals. 7. If at any point you need to drop out, just click on the “default” button on your AO3 assignment page; we’ll find a pinch hitter to create a gift for your recipient instead. If you need an extension to finish your gift, contact the mods before the deadline. 8. After the reveals, comment on your gift. 9. Most importantly: be excellent to each other!

Sign-ups will take place here on AO3, ending on May 4th. There, you can fill out details about your request and offer. You can edit your sign-up at any time until the sign-ups close on May 4th.

DNW (Do Not Wants): things that your creator must not include - squicks, triggers, characters or things that you simply don’t like. Remember that you don’t owe anyone an explanation about why something is a DNW, and that DNW are not meant to be taken personally. Just list the things you don’t like, “DNW: X, Y.”

Please list if you have any audio or visual triggers (such as flashing lights). This could be in your DNW or could be separate. Please also list song/music DNWs (e.g.   "please no lyrics that use the n-word" or "please no lyrics in [specific language]"  or “please no [specific genre/s of music”).

Prompts/specific ideas: if you have any prompts, you can also put them here! You can be as general or as detailed as you’d like, but remember that while your creator will try to make the best gift for you, filling a specific prompt is not obligatory. You can include a crossover prompt (with other DMBJ verse or other canons), but make sure it’s not the only prompt you have.

For vid prompts, please list things like genres/styles of music you like (or like in vids), vibes/tone/theme you’d like to see (e.g. “angsty amnesiac Xioage”, “Fuba crack”, etc.), and things like that. Please try to avoid giving one or two specific songs for a specific character/ship.

Your Assignment

You will be matched to create a gift for someone who requested at least one of the fandoms that you offer, with as many similar genres/likes as possible. This exchange will be hand-matched, after using AO3’s matching algorithm to first generate the potential matches.

If you have any issues when you receive your assignment (you have a question about it or think there’s an issue with it), contact the mods as soon as possible. Do not contact your recipient on your own.

You will have to create a gift for your recipient, fulfilling the minimum requirements of fandom, genre, and ship, and avoiding any stated “do not wants”. Filling exact prompts is optional, but try to create something matching your recipient’s likes that they will enjoy!

You will have to post your gift to the exchange AO3 collection before the due date (June 25th), using the “gift this work to” option to give it to your recipient. Your work will remain in the collection only visible to you and the mods until the reveals happen. Remember to tag your work appropriately or use the “chose not to warn” warning.

Treating

Treats are additional gifts for the participants! To allow for treating, the requests will be made visible when matching is done. You can create treats at any time until the creator reveals! There are no minimum requirements for treats, and manips are also allowed in addition to fic, art, and vids. As with assignments, you have to respect the recipient’s Do Not Wants, and while the optional details are optional, try to create something fitting the listed likes. One treat can only be gifted to one person.

Pinch Hits

In case someone needs to drop out, we will look for a pinch hitter to complete their assignment. Pinch hits will be posted to this tumblr and the DMBJ Yu Cun Discord.

Extensions

If you think you can finish your assignment, but you need a few days more, you can always ask for an extension! 

Multi-Chapter Fics

If you are writing a multi-chapter fic for the exchange and don’t want to drop the entire fic at once, these are the posting guidelines for it:

Multi-chapter fics that are assignment fills must be fully written and at least the first chapter posted by the assignment deadline, ready for the fic reveals on July 2nd.

From July 2nd, at least one chapter is to be posted daily.

All chapters of the fic must be posted by the time of author reveals and end of treating on July 9th (If the fic is more than 7 chapters long, then this will mean that multiple chapters will need to be posted on some days).

Multi-chapter fics that are treats can begin to be posted at any time, but must also be fully posted by July 9th.

The only reason Andromeda dropped off abruptly in November is because I still can't get the launcher to, well, launch without crashing my computer. But one sweet day, my beloved Andromeda and I shall be together again! 🤗😉

Both @mrtobenamedlater and @naranghim have kindly offered me a ton of great advice on repairing my old man here. *pat-pats my faithful computer whose only fault is getting old*

It happens to us all, after all!

Anyway, at least I still have had the MCC or I swear, I would've gone off a light bridge somewhere!

So, my Gaming Goal for 2024 is to, first of all, have a working computer again so I can play whatever I want. Then immediately following that, I want to finish my Scott/Peebee and Scott/Jaal playthroughs of Andromeda and I will have officially romanced everybody! 🥳💖

I'm definitely hoping to get the achievement for playing Halo: Reach on Legendary in under 3 hours.

I'm currently on track to finish Reach in... about 5-6 hours right now 👀 but hey, Reach is HARD on Legendary, what can I say? 🤷‍♀️ It just took me 1 hour 18 minutes to get through "Long Night of Solace" and, if you know Reach, then you know that space battle is a PILL. I need to find a better strategy than "Hide behind Anchor 9 and wait for everybody else to kill the enemies." It's a solid strat when it comes to surviving but it takes forever and you don't have that sort of time in a speedrun, after all. (The par time is 25, btw. *laughs in "I'm never making anything close to that but will try to get other missions under par so to have some room for it"*)

Anyway, I'm not afraid to have to grind for this achievement, it'll be even more awesome then when I get there, right? 😎👍

There I go, soaring into the air to achieve my dream, just like Emile achieving his dream to, um, be launched into a parking lot??? (I adore how he turns in mid-air to still aim at the Banshees, lol! That's Spartan dedication, frens! 🤣)

But the main thing I want to do is to try some of my other games, such as the original Mass Effect trilogy, Star Wars: Fallen Order, Portal 1 and 2, Titanfall 2, Tomb Raider (2013), Dead Rising, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and Dragon Age Inquisition! Those are just a few of the awesome games waiting for me in my Steam library! 🤗🤗🤗 I'm hoping to eventually pick up Detroit: Become Human, Resident Evil Village and Baldur's Gate 3 one day, too! 🤞😣🤞

16: Lara joins Father Patrick in the island of Connussie, Ireland, where she gets her first taste of adventure and the supernatural; later on she joins Werner Von Croy in his expedition in Angkor Wat after begging her father for weeks. This result in tragedy as he gets to the Iris and she returns home with her mentor clearly upset and her parents glad she seemingly got over her desire for adventure

16-21: Lara meets John Constantine, who saves her from a demonic attack; afterwards, she's enlisted in Gordonstoun Boarding School in Scotland and then the Swiss Finishing School, where she discovers her love for various sports; her parents promise her hand to the Earl of Farringdon, who's she's set to marry after a skiing trip

21: her plane crashes in the Himalayas, where she turns out to be the only survivor; once at home she finds herself oppressed by the rules of nobility and refuses to marry her parents give her an ultimatum and eventually cut contacts with her, disinheriting her, and she goes to live to her aunt Margaret's summer manor with her butler Winston

21-24: Lara gets into several adventures, some which include finding the Philosopher Stone, the Arc of the Covenant, the Spear of Destiny, Bigfoot and dealing with the Aztec God Xolotl; she offers to buy her aunt's manor thanks to money regained by writing books in her adventures but her aunt refuses, confirming her place on top of her favorite family members

24: [ Tomb Raider & Unfinished Business ]: she finds the Scion of Atlantis and blows up T-Rexes, the remaining atlantean strongholds and its ruler; later on, she finds a once lost Temple dedicated to cats in Egypt

25: she retrieves the dagger of Xian and in the process single handedly takes down the Fiamma Nera cult and, later on, the A.V.A.L.A.N.C.H.E. organization after finding the resurrecting mask of Tornarsuk, and some mercenaries and dinosaurs in Las Vegas. She also travels for the first time in a whole different world, at least as far as she knows, but she doesn't talk much about her journey through the Floating Islands

26: Lara finds some ancient alien crystals, the Infada Artifacts, and takes down fake gods, a scientist who liked "The Thing" a little too much, the entire US military in Area 51 and an immortal CEO (twice!); aunt Margaret dies

27: Lara joins the expedition in the Tomb of Tutankhamonand, later on, messes with Von Croy by infiltrating in his industries to steal the Iris, further souring their relationships; months later Lara accidentally starts the Apocalypse by releasing Set, who promptly mind controls Von Croy; she gains the favors of Horus and entraps Set once more, but she's buried under the Great Pyramid and taken for dead

28: Lara is saved by Putai, shaman of Horus, and joins the Bantiwa tribe; she considers herself born anew, takes the name of "El Hawa", "Desert Wind", and lives happily until Von Croy finds her once more; after discussing it with her newfound family, she returns to England with the promise of coming back one day, keeping their talisman as protection

29-32: Lara is ready to return to Egypt when she learns that an old enemy of the Bantiwa, 'Scar', took his revenge on her tribe and slaughtered them all, as far as she knows. after that, and growing more and more frustrated with the media and her parents, she self isolates in her manor and cuts contact with anyone in her life apart from Winston, letting the PTSD fester

32: she's convinced to go to meet Von Croy in Paris after he calls her to help him find the Obscura Paintings for Eckhardt, just to be framed for his murder when the "Monstrum" kills him; she manages to defeat the Black Alchemist and, soon after, the last of the Nephilim also thanks to the Kurtis Trent, member of the Lux Veritatis, who leaves her behind after being mortally injured but not without leaving behind his Chirugai, a mystical weapon that assures her that he's still alive, somewhere

33: after a long, year long trial, she's finally considered not guilty for the murders, but still has to do community works for sneaking into the Louvre; still, she slowly returns to raid tombs

34: returning to Egypt to find signs of her lost tribe, she discovers Set managed to escape its tomb and, finally, with the help of Literal Gods Horus And Isis she manages to defeat the evil god once and for all [ BLOG CANON STARTS HERE ] Kurtis finally pays her a visit, becoming a somewhat constant roommate as they track down Gunderson and the rest of the Cabal

35: Lara meets up with John again and finds Excalibur ( or something similar to it, anyway! ) with fellow treasure hunter Nathan Drake and the Island of Yamatai

Tomb Raider playlist is ready! Well, I still have to upload a few videos for the last stage and one of the Atlantis videos is saying that it's still processing. I'll upload a replacement if I need to.

So my overall experience with Tomb Raider is that it is a frustrating game that mostly satisfies when you succeed at solving a puzzle or completing a jumping gauntlet that was giving you trouble. Playing through the game while limiting my saves for the achievement, however, really puts how demanding some parts of this game can be. Combat, for instance, was never really a fun experience, largely due to my more methodical way of moving and jumping in most situations. More than a few deaths were caused by hopping the wrong direction during combat, taking extreme amounts of damage very quickly with little chance to recover, and ending up out of rhythm with the enemy movement or attacks when I did try to dodge and roll like I'm clearly supposed to. Thankfully there are a LOT of healing items, and tanking damage while unloading everything into an enemy was completely viable for many of the harder fights in the game. Didn't feel good to win so many fights like that, though.

The jumping puzzles were largely satisfying, pushing you to get a feel for how the grid based level design and tank movement work, then asking you to color a bit outside the lines with your platforming skills to skip sections of a stage or find secret stashes of ammo and health. I tried to play the game as unspoiled as possible (it's been out for over 25 years so I did know a few of the more notable moments), and I had to look up where to go maybe a half dozen times, which isn't bad at all. Heck, if I were more thorough in my movement and searching around, I might have avoided at least a few of those situations. The remaster graphics created some problems and helped solve others, but overall the game looks quite nice.

My last point of frustration that I have to comment on has to do with controls. Now, either control style is fine to play with, as there are work arounds for issues players sometimes have with the modern controls, and indeed the instant directional changes of modern controls actually made it possible for me to solve a couple of the game's puzzles that were giving me a lot of trouble. My bigger issue is more personal, namely that I own an Xbox 360 controller for my computer and that thing has a garbage D-pad. I fell to my death multiple times because I would push the direction to turn and Lara would instead dash straight forward off a cliff. My advice is get a better PC controller than an Xbox 360 one, or at least something with a good D-pad, because tank controls with an analog stick are just too touchy IMO.

As an aside, this playthrough was done with 85 saves, getting the achievement for finishing with 86 saves or less. If you aren't interested in that achievement, I highly recommend you save as often as you like, even if you save after nearly every big jumping puzzle or fight. It will save you so much time and energy.

I wonder if she's doing the work to be noticed, not as someone who can take a pretty picture but is serious about acting.

You reminded me of something ADC has said early on, where she wanted to do period pieces. But is she pursing those roles? None of the movies she's done went anywhere. And a few have yet to be available anywhere. I sure hope she was paid for those roles.

I do think there was a deliberate choice in her modeling shots to seem like the newest Audrey Hepburn. A “décolleté Sabrina”, if you will and she's done this well, but the clock will run out of her, like so many. She's turning 30 this year and the public/TPTB are hard on women actors getting older.

Then the BS clips on fear, while practicing with a balisong knife, maybe she wanted to be the next Tomb Raider, a la Angelina Jolie and we see how that went with the absolute awful show runners. They sent her fleeing for something else. Maybe Lost Flowers will be better.

Her only stand out role is Lexa. The chemistry with Clarke was so dynamic, I've yet to see her have the same chemistry with the other actors, who play her intimate partners. The passion just isn't there. We got so lucky, she played that role with all of her heart.

If she is, then it's not coming across. If anything, it does the exact opposite. If she were doing small but diverse roles, if she were on stage, if she were doing almost anything else, that would make sense (Ronan, again is a good example: not a lot of great stuff, but some interesting character parts and lots of them before she was 25). Gaining experience, developing those acting muscles, right?

But that's not what she's doing. If modeling and hanging with the Cool Kids is what the Business is demanding of her? Then the business isn't interested in her acting and maybe she isn't that interested, either. She has agency. The biz is jading and awful. People get eaten alive and spit out regularly. Maybe its her rep, maybe its her. None of it is doing anything for her artistically except, idk, making her money and keeping her on the party circuit. If that's her bag, that's her bag.

If you're waiting for another role like Lexa though? Wouldn't hold that breath.

Spyro’s friends from the many titles, I have changed James Byrd from a penguin to a phoenix. The other oddity is Slashette, she is Ripto’s daughter. She will emerge in the Dragon Code MMORPG stories. Long story short, she is the estranged daughter with full knowledge of her father but wants nothing to do with him. Even after he finally learns that he had a long lost daughter; she is a dark green raptor.

After many stories of the MMORPG; they will join this Ultimate Alliance to ensure their survival (They are a black moose & a blue/white griffin.). Juggernaut is an Executioner, galactic class; from the Elven Realms. He is amongst the Top 1,000 List, in the 25 Bracket. He joins the Ultimate Alliance for survival purposes. Omnikov & Clovier Yéyé are friends of Chlorox. Too powerful, just like him… Omnikov is a shadow & Clovier is a bumblebee. The Dark Chain Gang joins because of their connections with Diesel & Faint. Not the entire gang joins this Ultimate Alliance because there are going to be multiple through out the story. Luxroc is a black orc, Miara Milan is a ladybug & Riotburn is a human.

the Apocalypse Order is a group of the Top 1,000 List; they are all of the 25 Bracket. It’s safe to say, they are the most powerful grouping that joins this Ultimate Alliance. Fortune Seekers Unlimited is comprised of a group of children brought together by the Unlimited Club. A scientific group that is based in Ireland. They work in all of the realms, for the study of super powers & as erowo ordinance lords (the super power police). Essentially, that’s what the six of them are. Investigators & law enforcement. They will be 20 years of age at this point of the fanfic. & yes, that is Handel & Greta… All members are human, as the Ultimate Club is based in the Humanoid Realms. All of the members aren’t from the Humanoid Realms though.

TMNT joins this Ultimate Alliance because they deem it is the most Ultimate out of those formed.

As stated before, Everglow inspired Nevergleaux. As stated before, these are all dopplegangers of Everglow. Born in the Mirror Realms eons ago & have been causing nothing but migraines to all of the realms. Being the opposite of Everglow, they are one of the reasons the Mirror Realms were locked so long ago. They were trying to get to what the Power of Eons is based off of; a weapon of mass creation. Anyone acquiring it will be able to make their own universe; anyway they see fit.

The current enemies I have lined up for Power of Eons. You’ll be able to identify a few & that’s it. Kenitia Swole is a doppelgänger from the Mirror Realms; based off of Kenitia Cole the Choreographer/Dancer who murdered Victoria Monet’s “Good Time x Trouble”. Go listen to it… Iyyesh, Spiral, Occrean & Sharker are new to the fanfic. Dreddonius is the father of Faint, his alive form was defeated by Faint, Diesel & the Dark Chain Gang back when the prophecy was identified again by Faint being discovered by Diesel. Then bringing her to one of the Dragon Strongholds of the Crazoid Realms; where she was born. Long story short, she was locked in the castle with the rest of the survivors but opening the castle, via another prophecized dragon getting close to another; resurrected Dreddonius. Now, he’ll be in the form of Bonie Dreddonius; just for this fanfic.

Okay so I started the second game and...

A lot of people will be mad at me, but it needs to be said; Lara from Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider is fucking ugly. Fugly to the power of itself. Who created this model and thought it's gonna be okay or even acceptable? I wanna have a conversation. I don't care how underpaid people responsible for this are this is absolutely hideous and horrific. This is borderline revolting. They should be in jail for this crime against society. This is simply unacceptable and I will not abide this. They had 3 years, amazing model in previous game and what the fuck is this? Lara looks like she's through botched face job and 25 years of abusing some heavy drugs. Guys she's in her 20ies, she has no business looking like pulled through radioactive sewage and her late 50ties. Artist, or entire team, must have been cosplaying Three Wise Monkeys but all of them decided they "see no evil". Of fucking course they don't, otherwise this would not make the cut. Oh my fucking God. I have no words for this monstrosity. Blindfolded, hands tied behind their back, with no sense of style, taste, dignity or human heart. This is so fucking horrible. Oh my God.

Be back with more right opinions later, if I don't vomit out my stomach in the process of finishing the game. Putting a bag on Lara's head in this game is advised if not encouraged. I need a bucket.

25: Favourite part of writing?

I love writing dialogue! or repetition. I love some good repetition

I just think dialogue is super fun. That 100% comes from years of theatre and studying/writing scripts. Also many many years of fandom roleplays.

I got feedback on a fiction writing assignment that was basically achilles and patroclus fanfiction saying that i write dialogue really well and it has my favourite opening line I've ever written (and everyone else liked it too)

35: What scene/story are you least looking forward to writing?

The remainder of 'and then there were three...' I have come to absolutely despise it. I lost my notes for it and I hate the characterisations but it was one of my most popular works at one point. I don't even know how it's going to be resolved. There's no way it'll be a happy ending. I might just abandon it or completely rewrite it.

Tomb Raider

I remember being a young lass and watching my older brother play Tomb Raider on the PlayStation in complete awe. I wanted so bad to play this. Now that I am older, playing all the newer Tomb Raiders myself, it is almost like fulfilling a childhood dream. Seeing the difference in not only the last 3 that have come out but comparing them to the original game itself shows just how far technology has come in the last 25 years. The graphics in Shadow of the Tomb Raider are so detailed it’s like you’re watching a live action movie (even better effects than the one with Angelina Jolie... Sorry, Angie..). As somebody who loves to be out in nature myself, it makes you want to go out and become an Archeologist. You get so engrossed in these games, going on all these adventures with Lara and Jonah you feel like you’re a part of the team. If you have never played any of them and enjoy adventure games I highly suggest picking these up.

Extremely disappointed but not at all surprised that GameSpot is using Tomb Raider to get clicks out of angry Tomb Raider fans.

Don't drag the most successful woman in gaming history into petty shit.

She's had a two-decade career in gaming, had TWO Oscar actresses portray her in films, and if you take inflation into account, both of Angelina's movies still did better.

Not to mention that Tomb Raider is an actual household name and Lara Croft is a pop culture icon outside of gaming and had that status even before the movies.

On the other hand, no one knows what an Uncharted or a Nathan Drake is outside of gaming, Tom Holland carried the entire production with his name alone.
