A dignified and not unattractive drag-queen of a certain age, handling her Rose Kennedys very well, affectionately revisits her Democrat activist years for some admiring young gays, as they sit together in a bar.

She gets tearful remembering Bobby Kennedy, and you surprise yourself wondering if that’s Balmoral pink you see, carefully applied to her now slightly trembling lips.

Suddenly, a rude comment disrupts the atmosphere. What a heel, one who manages to insult her age, her sexuality and her political identity all at the same time!

They stand up, the heel and the young gays, a chair toppled down, and the bartender calls: “Hey! No brawls in my bar!”

The ”Rose Kennedy” drag-queen lady gets up as well, planting her feet well on the ground, and facing the man who insulted her. She tilts her head, addressing the bartender: “No worries, darling! And we’re ready for another round, here!”

Then, she half turns in a fluid instant gesture, scooping up energy, and her right-hand fist whams forward like a truck against the offender’s jaw.

Among laughs and catcalls, some acolytes stand in shame by their felled group-leader, who barely manages to get up, before the general counting declares him a knock-out. The group wisely retreat toward the exit, while the bartender puts another glass in front of the drag-queen lady:

“Here, this one’s on the house.”

This little thing I wrote was inspired by a dear friend’s cocktail choice, which made me dream up a fierce and powerful figure, to celebrate this Pride month.

How did that come about?

The cocktail’s name called back for me the memory of Lady Pearl in the old Altman’s movie “Nashville”, when she says: - Only time I ever went hog-wild, around the bend, was for the Kennedy boys. But they were different. -

And then I made her into a transwoman lady, as dignified as Bernadette in “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”, and in my writing I made her victorious over brutal ignorance.

In real life, I just had to watch in rage a video where three bulky urban police agents beat up and pepper spray transwoman Bruna they were arresting, apparently because she was agitated and causing a ruckus in the street. The fact is unclear. But that violence? See for yourself:

here’s the thing.

if you’re one of the people celebrating our flag means death’s cancellation for whatever reason right now, i need you to realize that this is just a sign that whatever you love is next.

and i’m not saying that out of spite. having your favourite show cancelled is awful, i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. but if our little-gay-pirate-show-that-could can’t get its third and final season, the future of queer media is extremely grim.

ofmd was the definition of a sleeper hit. hbo max had no faith in it when the first season came out. it gained popularity purely through word-of-mouth. but it became one of max’s biggest shows, and it’s since been marketed as their flagship series.

it was the #1 most in-demand series in the world for 8 weeks (7 of those weeks consecutively). it’s currently in the 99.7th percentile of the comedy genre, meaning it’s in higher demand than 99.7% of all comedy series in the u.s. it has a 94% audience and critics score on rotten tomatoes. it’s the most in-demand hbo original series even above euphoria, succession, and the last of us.

it was nominated for 16 awards for the first season alone, including a GLAAD award and a peabody award. the second season was just nominated for an art directors guild award, which it was previously nominated for and won in the same category for season one.

besides awards, ofmd is critically-acclaimed and praised for its representation (including a cast of majority queer, bipoc, and disabled characters) and themes of anti-colonialism, challenging gender norms/toxic masculinity, and self-discovery/acceptance. it also has a diverse team of directors and writers consisting of several bipoc, women, and queer/trans/non-binary people.

on top of all of this, the plan for the show all along was only ever for three seasons. david jenkins only wanted three seasons for the full romcom structure to tell ed and stede’s story. that’s it. nothing more.

this isn’t an attempt to make you care about the show. but ofmd’s cancellation isn’t just a loss for the fanbase and the cast/crew. it’s a sign that it does not matter how successful or profitable shows highlighting lgbtq+ (or otherwise inclusive) narratives are or how many big names are involved. ofmd would not have been cancelled if it were a straight romcom. they would’ve magically found the budget. but corporate greed doesn’t care about us. they have no respect for queer people or queer media. and in the age of streaming, it’s only a matter of time until we lose all of it.

Long Emily design explanation/rant thing ignore it probably but pls dotn im desperate: I wanted to make her more round and soft cuzzz I love those typa designs I'm just a sucker for circle characters. Made her actually black and not fuckin gray cuz its a transformation to look more human and gentle(for me they go between two forms, their true ones that we see the first time we see them snd their human/softer ones if they ever interact with actual humans which... they usually dont.) Not a demon form tfff. In this version I wanted to put Emily in animal inspired features like... the sheep nose, ears, and hooves. Because she and Sera know that humans and about all beings love animals. Birds have sharp features mostly so they don't look as welcoming as they want to seem. I wanted Emily to look sheep likes and pretty much all the seraphim look more sheep like to make Lucifer stand out as the only one who was symbolized as a snake/goat(still don't know if I'll make him goat or make Lillith goat. I'll decide when I get there lmao). Justtt overalll wanted Emily to look more round, welcoming, and cute. I kept the freckles lighter than her skin color(even tho that's SUPER not accurate to what actually black people look like with freckles but whatevr) because it reminded me of fawns and.... sure Emily is a sheep but I still wanted to incorporate other cute animal traits with her cyz y not.

God forbid a cast of characters be multifaceted and have actual flaws and unpleasant aspects other than "grr angsty hero" and "whoops i'm so clumsy". Sometimes character dynamics and arcs need to be prioritized above "who would i personally be niceys with irl"

Fallout should really get more into the micro mutations that the radiation has caused. Like both with already mutated creatures and non-obvious ones.

Psykers, Night-kin, tunnelers and multiple other variants of mutated things exist so why can’t humans with other slight mutations? We know that radiation and FEV have affected how things have evolved, so it’d be really easy to say that these tribes or factions can do this cause they are slightly mutated to better fit their environment.

Perhaps Mojave people that live in very high areas have just noticeably long limbs due to all the climbing. Perhaps those who live in dark areas have larger pupils and borderline night vision. Perhaps rando NPCs that just mention having webbed hands cause their families live around water.

Like I’m not saying a bunch of new mutants or factions but just like humans who are more obviously slightly mutated.
