How to Get (Free) Manga in Japanese from Honto.jp*
(*If you already have an account!)
I hope to get out a post about setting up an account sooner or later, but we'll give this a go for now!
Go to honto.jp There's an option to use the site in English, but we're skipping that for now. We're also only buying digital at the moment, so we're going to skip worrying about shipping. Close the pop-up.
Tumblr media
2. Type the name of the book/series you're looking for into the search bar. This time we're looking for とつくにの少女, The Girl From the Other Side. (Note that I tried searching for 外国の少女 and didn't get the correct results, so do be careful how you type in what you're looking for.) Unselect the green option (紙) from next to the search bar, since right now we're only looking for digital (電子). Then click 検索.
Tumblr media
3. You can see various volumes of the series appearing below. Right now it's showing up with the most recent at the top, so we'll scroll down until we see とつくにの少女(1). Alternatively, they often sell sets up to the most recent volume released, so if you want to go all in, you can look for the option [全1−11 セット] とつくにの少女. In this case we need to scroll to the bottom and go on to the next page. Just a note that they do sell "complete" series even if the series is still publishing new volumes, and you'll have to buy future volumes as a new purchase. Also, it will not allow you to purchase both the full set and a single volume of the same series at the same time. Buying as a set vs. buying individually does not affect how the volumes appear in your library, but it can affect how coupons apply sometimes, if there's a deal on sets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Here we are! とつくにの少女(1)! If you don't want to buy it right now, you can click 欲しい本に追加, but we're purchasing, so we're going to click the big orange (電子書籍を)カートに入れる.
Tumblr media
5. Now you can see it's changed to カートを見る, and there's one item in our cart up top! Before we check out, though, let's take advantage of some of the perks of using honto.jp.
Tumblr media
6. By hovering over Myメニュー at the top right, we can get to あしあと抽選ポイント and クーポン一覧.
Tumblr media
7. Let's visit あしあと抽選ポイント first. You earn points by buying things on the website (1 point for 100 yen, I think?), but you can also enter the point lottery for a chance to win free points every day! Usually you only get one point, but it's still fun and a penny saved is a penny earned, right? Click the big blue button that says あしあと抽選にチャレンジ!
Tumblr media
8. Next go to クーポン一覧. Go through and collect 取得する on the right side of all of them, we don't care. They're free. Most of them are for smaller publishers and only apply to specific books we're not interested in, but the ones at the top are going to help us get 20%~25% off if we're lucky! 25% is about the best deal you get on honto.jp, every once in a while you may get 30% or perhaps 40%. There are better sales, but they won't apply to the popular items.
Tumblr media
9. All our coupons now having turned from blue to gray and saying 取得済み, we go to our bonus round... the free manga area! Click the logo in the top left to go back to the main page, and then look for 無料の電子書籍 right underneath the search bar.
There are hundreds and hundreds of free options, usually the first or first few volumes of a series. (They're to get you to buy the rest of the series, but they can save you some money!!) A lot are kind of whatever, but there's usually a few really good ones there, case in point Blue Giant (first 4 volumes) and Shadow House (first 3 volumes) are free right now! Sometimes they're only free for a limited amount of time after which they'll still appear in your digital library but you can no longer open them, but we don't care about that right now, go get your free stuff!
Tumblr media
You can add the first volumes to your cart very quickly by clicking the orange button underneath the covers, but if you want all the free volumes, click on the cover to open in a new tab, which will take you to the page for the first volume. Click on シリーズ一覧 under the title and author, and that'll take you to a list of the volumes like we saw before, if you scroll down.
Tumblr media
Now that we're here, go crazy hitting the orange button, but make sure you're doing it on the volumes that say 0円. They like to mix the paid volumes in with the free ones. If you look at the title you can see the free ones are only going to be available to read until March 16th, but whatever! Free stuff, even if it's temporary!
Tumblr media
Something weird is going on with Shadow House, I don't know why there are two different free ones, I think that's an error on the part of the site. We'll just pick one for each volume. This one says 期間限定無料配信, so I think that means you get to keep it as long as you get it for free during the free availability period!
Tumblr media
10. Now that we've rounded up what we want, click on your cart (電子書籍のカートを見る) in the top right. This'll pop up when you hover over the cart icon.
Tumblr media
Look over your list, make sure your free books are free, and your total off to the right is what you're expecting, then enter your password on the right to continue, then hit the orange button that says 購入の手続きへ進む.
Tumblr media
11. Now it pretty much looks the same, except we're logged in. It saves your payment information, so you won't have to enter anything (danger!! if you like buying books, there's no step of having to get out your credit card to make you think about your life choices!)
BUT we do want to save money, so we'll use our coupons and points! Click on the white box with the blue outline that says クーポン/ポイントの利用
Tumblr media
12. Apply your coupon!! (One per purchase). But see, this is why we collect all the coupons, because apparently とつくにの少女 happens to be from one of the publishers that has a good sale on now! I think it automatically applies the best one, but it's good to check, especially if you have more than one item in your cart that costs actual money. You can see how it reduced from 605円 on the previous screen to 363円 here. By clicking 全て利用する on the right, I can also apply all my points to bring it down that much further! (Or click the lower options to use some or none of your points.) If points expire, I buy things off this site too frequently to have noticed... Then click 変更する in blue at the bottom to save your changes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13. STOP, think about if you're ready to pay!! Then to finish, click the orange ご注文を確定 on the right! You can see I'll earn 2 pts to save on future purchases from this order. (It looks like it's less than 1 per 100円...)
Tumblr media
14. DONE! You can open up the app on your preferred device, download your new purchase(s), and start reading! You can also read in-browser by clicking ブラウサで読む.
Tumblr media
You'll see your purchases on My 本棚
Tumblr media
Hover over the cover to bring you to this screen, then select シリーズの本棚を見る to go to the mini-bookshelf for all the volumes in that series (I only have one of とつくにの少女, but that's what shows up anyway).
Tumblr media
It shows me the volumes that are missing in gray, but if I hover over the one I have, I again see ブラウザーで読む. Click on that to finally read!
Tumblr media
Ta-da! I think it also pops up with instructions about using the arrow keys to move the pages, or your can click on the sides of the pages to get them to advance in that direction.
Tumblr media
Happy Reading!!!

Nanwum VI Update: 24,172
I’ve got some more writing to do before I call it a night, but I think I need to pause here to reflect on the tactical position I’m in.  I’ve been doing these silly little writing update posts for years now, and I always felt a little awkward about it, but now I’ve got enough of these writing goals under my belt that I can go back and look at past entries and I think it’s been very helpful.  So I’m going to capture some things here in the hopes that it’ll be valuable in the future.
Okay, so basically I’m finding myself in a similar word count rut to what I went through in 2019, and I’m trying to fight my way out of it, but also understand why this is happening.  I’m just shy of the halfway mark, and that’s good, but it’s also taken me a while to clear that hurdle, just like it did in ‘19.  I feel like I run into this issue a lot, where it takes me a long time to get from 20k to 25k.
I think this may be a side-effect of my traditional Nano strategy, which is to take several days off work at the start of November, and then use that time to build up a healthy lead.  And it’s been effective, sure, but then I go back to work, and it collapses my momentum.   My sleep schedule’s kind of borked up, the job takes a toll on my motivation, and that has a demoralizing effect that can lead to a vicious cycle.  Before I know it, four or five days have gone by and I’ve lost a lot of the lead I’d built up in the early going.
The big issue here is that I sort of know it’s going to be this way, but I fail to properly take it into account.  I was doing so well that I decided I would aim for 3k on Day 9, but guess what?  I didn’t sleep so good on the night of Day 8, so I was too tired on Day 9 and wound up writing 0 words.  This got me thinking of how I could play catch up on Day 10, except that’s just a recipe for failure.   If I was having a hard time doing 3k, it’s pointless to think I can somehow hit 6k the next day.  I’d just fail to hit that goal too, and feel crummy even when I get respectable word counts below that.
So I’d like to get back on track, but it’s clear to me that this isn’t something I can hotshot in one day, even a day off.  So I’m shooting for a 3-day plan where I get to 37k.  It’ll require me to write over 4000 words for each day, but I think that’s a realistic challenge for a weekend, if I play it right.   If not, I’ll probably end up somewhere more like 33k, which isn’t so bad.
But I’m starting to realize that I need to plan for this sort of thing ahead of time.   There’s going to be a crash after I come out of a long vacation/writing spree.   I’ve always assumed that I would crash during Week Three of a 30-day writing project, but maybe the reality is independent of time.  If you do exactly 1/30 of the goal each day, you hit the halfway mark of Nano on Day 15, which is the beginning of Week Three.  I always thought I was being clever trying to get to 25k really early, but all I’m really doing is just hitting the wall ahead of schedule.  And then getting past the wall and finishing the goal ahead of schedule, but the wall never actually gets eliminated.
I’m not sure how to adjust for that.  Maybe it’s not worth trying, since I know I can deal with it.  And maybe the mere awareness of the issue is good enough.  I just need to stop beating myself up about it.  On the other hand, I think there’s a fix for this.   It probably involves a reduced word count goal in the middle, followed by a sprint at the end, but I’ll have to think about it.
In the here and now, I’m going to try to tackle about 13,000 words over the next three days, and I’m finding myself faced with a major hurdle.  At this point in my fic, I’m basically writing a long, drawn out battle with Demigra, the final boss of Xenoverse 1.  I knew this was coming, but now that I’m here, I find myself struggling to make the battle work, because I have no idea how strong Demigra is or how his powers work.   The basic outline looks like this:
1. Demigra enters Tokitoki City and defeats Trunks.
2. Luffa returns from mission and confronts Demigra, who sics mind-controlled Trunks on her.
3. Luffa neutralizes Trunks and takes on Demigra one-on-one.
4. Goku shows up and he and Luffa fight Demigra together? Well, that’s how it happens in the game, anyway.
5. Demigra destroys the Time Vault, which leads to Luffa following him into the Crack of Time to fight him in his final form(tm).
I never had to think about it before now, but it’s basically this long gauntlet match for Demigra.  He beats Trunks, which is a pretty tall order in itself, and then he holds off two more Super Saiyans, and he still has enough left in the tank to put up a good fight at the end.
I think I pretty much have to give this guy some sort of self-healing ability.  I can’t just make him super-duper strong, because his strongest form is the big blue demon look he uses at the end, and it only takes one Super Saiyan to beat him.  So there has to be some sort of tactical component to it, where Demigra has a way to stay in the fight, and the good guys have to dismantle that ability before they can beat him.
Demigra does have a sort of power echelon thing in this conflict.  Between (1) and (2), he eats Tokitoki, which presumably gives him extra power, so that explains why he can take on Goku and Luffa at the same time in (4), even though I want Trunks to put up a decent showing in (1).   But I need him to take a lot of punishment here, sort of like how Cell would get wrecked all through DBZ, but keep coming back.  Maybe he can undo injuries with time power or something.   That’d be kind of neat.
Yeah, I’ve lost an hour of writing time workshopping all this, but I think it did me some good.   Writing fight scenes is actually pretty good for racking up word count totals, but it only works when you have the battle conditions laid out well.  Otherwise it just turns into this GT-style combat where characters just hit each other in this endless back and forth until it’s time for the fight to end.   I can’t let that happen.

I guess I can write down a small 'guide' on how I survived on Imago with 0 deaths. These are just my general observations after putting 60+ hours into the game.
From Day 4 onward, always, ALWAYS max out your hospital fund – the "Fund" bar on top of your town map HUD. This involves always performing your duties at the hospital (1 per day) and healing the sick lying on the ground in infected districts. If you max it out, the fund will give you an assortment of antibiotics, 4000+ money, two 'filling' food items, and many 'lesser' food items. These provisions will help you get through a good 2/3 of your next day. Surprisingly enough, even though the hospital is shut down by the army on Day 10, the fund will remain, and you'll still be compensated on Days 10 & 11 if you max it out by healing random sick people.
Avoid burnt districts at all costs. If there's a choice between going through an infected district and a burnt district, choose infected. Yes, you'll suffer immunity damage and your protective garments will fray, but trust me on this. Burnt districts have the nasty habit of spawning groups of 4-5 marauders at once and if you don't have the stamina to outrun them, you're pretty much dead. Plus, the moving clouds of Sand Pest always follow main roads and are easy to spot from afar (the 'collision box' on them is also quite generous) while stationary clouds can be dispelled by lighting your lantern.
On Days 1 and 2, before the Plague hits, I suggest going on a Twyre-picking spree. The herbs in the Steppe won't spawn on Day 1, but the 'Boddho-roots' that need human blood (1 bottle for three random herbs) will be there. Blood can be drawn without you taking a hit to your reputation. You can easily get up to four bottles of blood from the corpses of the guys that jumped you in the beginning (they're near the Lump) and the poor woman that jumps from the top of the Termitary. On Day 2, get access to your Lair as fast as you can, and brew as many tinctures as you can so you can go plunder infected houses on Day 3.
Infected houses often spawn 'dead' items: used-up bandages and broken morphine ampoules. Keep them and take them to the Fellow Traveler's shop at night. The Fellow Traveler sells food and occasionally shmowders.
Speak with the man near the Factory jetty on Day 1, and try your absolute best to buy his revolver for 3000. The prices for guns will skyrocket in later days, so this is a steal. You'll get around 1500 from your inheritance on Day 2, and I suggest harvesting organs  – your reputation on Day 1 will be dogshit by default, so take what you can get and sell them to One-Eyed Var for $$$. One-Eyed Var will become a merchant after you finish the Piecework quest for Grief. Try and upkeep this revolver as best as you can or it'll jam at the worst of times.
Doing hospital work and healing the sick will always increase your reputation across the entire town, so I suggest doing some organ-harvesting or looting unlocked houses when it hits 'you're respected here.' Not the most upright thing, but hey, this is Imago and you need to survive. You should harvest/loot until you hit 'you're unwelcome here.'
But seriously. Do not underestimate organ-harvesting. One-Eyed Var pays a TON, particularly in later days.
Abuse children's stashes. There're around 10 of them across town and they'll often spawn useful trading items as well as Fingernails. Trade Fingernails for coffee from NPCs. Additionally, you absolutely MUST complete the hide-and-seek sidequest on Day 2 to get your hands on a shmowder for only 5 barter points instead of the usual 35-40.
You know what? Barter. Barter is broken and you can survive on it alone. Bless those two teenage NPCs that trade smoked fish for scissors, razors, and needles.

Social Media Survey
[joybucket]
What is your favorite social media site?  Either Twitter or YouTube, though I never use YouTube as a social media site per se so I guess this round goes to Twitter.
Do you use...
facebook? myspace? twitter? snapchat? instagram? youtube? pinterest? bzoink? another site with message boards? tumblr? deviantart? xanga?
Facebook
Do you get on Facebook every day?  Yeah pretty much all throughout the day. I used to never use it, like never ever; but back in college all announcements were coursed through Facebook so I was technically required to be on it regularly, and it was from there that I began to see memes and start to be more active. I’m a shitposter more than anything though and I rarely ever post stuff of my own. How many FB friends do you have?  I have 679 at the moment but I want to get rid of like 500 of them; it’s just such a long list to go through so I never get to proceed with my unfriending spree lol.
Have you ever been on a deleting spree?  HAHA I just mentioned that. I’ve always wanted to, but like I said 679 is already such an exhaustive list for me, and that’s considering I only started touching my Facebook in like 2019. I can’t imagine people who started Facebook in like 2009 and have 4000 friends aka most people I know.
Have you blocked a lot of haters?  I don’t have haters; at least I’m not aware of any that I have. Not that it’s something I care about at this point.
Do you get bullied online a lot?  No, but that’s also because I don’t really open the channels for people to send in hate. I don’t have Q&A handles like Curious Cat and I never pick out that option in Instagram where people can send in questions.
What's your favorite Facebook app?  Oh I never use Facebook for their apps. Are those still even a thing...? Anyway, I mainly go there to be on the hunt for stupid memes I can reshare or to watch videos that are either funny or informative.
Are you a fan of selfies?  I don’t mind if other people do it, but I think I’m honestly bad at selfies so I almost never take them. I’ve never figured out my angles or what filters look ok on me.
Has anyone ever called the police on you because they didn't like your status?  No but I have had my posts reported because they were deemed ‘offensive.’ Which is weird because my posts that have been taken down are those that speak out against disgusting men, which says a lot about Facebook runs their shit more than anything else.
Are you in any facebook groups?  I’m in nearly a hundred groups, both private i.e. for school purposes, and public.
Are you the admin of any groups?  Nah. Too much time and effort needed out of me.
Do you report abuse to group admins whenever you see it?  Yes. I report the post then leave the group.
What could make Facebook better?  They could put more effort into detecting and banning troll farms.
What year did you start using Facebook?  I made an account in 2012 because of a high school class that required us to upload this specific video-format homework onto Facebook (which in hindsight is such an insensitive homework considering that was nearly a decade ago when the Philippines was still severely behind in internet connection speeds?? Ugh). But I didn’t start actively using my account until around two years ago.
What is your current profile picture of?  Myself, posing in front of the sunflowers in school during the recent graduation season.
Did you like the old Myspace better than Facebook?  I was never a regular user of Myspace, so...
Pinterest
What are some of your favorite boards?  I’ve never had a clue what the purpose of Pinterest was. I mean I have an account...but I’ve also never gotten the hang of it?? so I never touch it hahaha.
Have you ever done a craft you saw on Pinterest?  Well no, because I’m terrible at arts and crafts anyway.
Do you have a Dream Wedding board? If so, what's on it?  No.
If you have a Dream House board, what does your dream house look like?  Ok fine this one I did start hahahah but I don’t even remember what I added on there anymore. I’m sure it was filled with modern-style houses with minimalist interior design.
Do you wish they'd bring the "like" button back?  I’m not even aware of this option.
Do you have a Bucket List board?  Not aware of this either.
Which do you like better: Just Girly Things or And That's Who I Am? The second one sounds less childish. < Same, and it sounds like it covers more.
Do you have a board for tattoos you like? If so, what are some of your faves?  No. The only one I ever made was the house one, then Pinterest quickly became boring from there when I realized there wasn’t much else I could do besides making mood boards.
Do you have a "Random" or "Miscellaneous" board?  No.
Have you ever reached the maximum number of boards?  No.
Do you have any secret boards?  No.
Have you ever had a Pin deleted because of copyright laws?  No.
Do you have a Color board? No.
Do you have an About Me board? If so, what's on it? No.
YouTube
Do you have a YouTube channel? If so, what is it?  Technically I do but I only have it so I can tailor video suggestions to my interests and so that I can like videos and subscribe to channels I like.
What kind of things do you post on YouTube?  I’ve never posted any video on there, not even private ones. I’m also not the type to comment.
What do you like to watch on YouTube?  These days YouTube serves as a stress reliever for me, which is to say I would typically go for humorous BTS-related compilations because there are sooooo many hilarious channels that make these great videos haha. Occasionally I’d go back to channels or series that I used to frequent, like Good Mythical Morning, Buzzfeed’s Worth It and Unsolved, Try Guys, Watcher, etc.
Are you subscribed to any channels?  To so many.
Do you watch any vlogs? If so, what ones are your favorite?  Hm probably Jiwoo’s, though her channel is called Mejiwoo. I find her content calming and conversational and basically fun to binge-watch when I’m not looking for anything super super particular to watch.
If you have a channel, how many subscribers do you have?  0. I’m just a lurker.
Will you subscribe to my channel? (msg me if you want a link!)  Only if it’s really fit to my interests, I guess.
Do you watch music videos?  Rarely; not a fan of MVs in particular. I only really ever put an exception for BTS.
Have you ever watched a TV show on youtube?  Well no since their copyright team works hard and works fast lol. I do watch entire video game walkthroughs from time to time.
Have you ever worked out to exercise videos on youtube?  No, I can’t care less about working out tbh.
Have you watched Amanda Todd's famous video?  No. I’m scared that it might be too upsetting or triggering for me.
Have you ever looked up how to do something on YouTube?  Not really, I prefer looking up articles that can teach me step by step in words.
Do you get a lot of hate comments on youtube?  No, I’ve never posted anything on there.
How long have you been a youtuber?  Never been.
Instagram
Do you post on Instagram a lot?  I do 1-3 Instagram stories in a week, I would say. As for posts, I only have 4 in total and I don’t really feel the pressure to add more. I just post when I feel the want to.
Have you ever posted a poll on instagram?  Nah, I’m not too sure if anyone would participate so I’ve never tried. If you don't have an iPhone, do you wish you could use Instagram?  I’m pretty sure other operating systems can also use Instagram...
Do you have any followers?  Around 50, I think.
Do you like Instagram filters? I’ll use them sometimes to make my stories appear prettier.
Twitter
Do you think twitter is stupid? Hehe show me at least one person who doesn’t think so. < Coming from someone who regularly uses Twitter, agree. It is crazy stupid but stupid is what I’m there for. Which is honestly not always such a bad thing to me - I like that people are more themselves, more stripped-down, vulnerable on Twitter. People always seem to want to show off their best selves on Facebook and Instagram, so I’m actually kind of grateful that there is at least one social media out there where people can just be their clumsy, goofy selves.
How often do you tweet?  Probably a maximum of five a day. Nowadays I’m on there mostly to just scroll through my timelines.
Do you get on twitter every day?  Yes, both on my personal and fan account.
Bzoink
Do you make a lot of surveys?  I never make them but I try to take them as often as I can.
Do you take a lot of surveys?  Haha sorry, was one step ahead of you. Yeah, I do.
Do you post in the message boards?  Nah. I dunno if I’m even permitted to check the message boards on Bzoink considering I don’t have an account.
What types of surveys are your favorite?  Categorized surveys like this one or countdown ones can be fun, but at the end of the day I like sticking to the classic random survey.
Do you have friends on here?  Not on Bzoink, but here on Tumblr yes! There’s a number of people here I like keeping up with :)
Do you post all your secrets on here?  Again, not on Bzoink; but yep I share pretty much everything here.
What type of survey do you think I should make next?  Anything but basic/about me-themed ones that will ask for my name and eye color and weight.
Do you read peoples' answers to your surveys?  I’ve never made a survey.
Do you think you are good at making surveys?
Do you try to make unique surveys?
What type of surveys do you want to see more of?

Controversial topics
Myspace
Did you have a myspace when you were in high school?  I started an account in like 4th grade when Myspace was ~big, but I didn’t find it fun and everyone my age was on Friendster anyway, so I was largely inactive.
Do you use myspace now?  No. Is it still even around? I have no clue.
Do you miss bulletins? I didn’t get to join in on the fun so there’s nothing to miss.
Did you like customizing your profile with the old myspace?  Not attributed to Myspace but I did have a lot of fun customizing my Multiply and Tumblr accounts back in the day. That was a period where I really got to learn and play around with HTML :)
Did you have music on your profile?  Not on Myspace again but I did on Multiply! I had a cute little playlist that played the songs immediately as soon as you landed on my page hahaha.
Did you learn HTML when you used Myspace?  Tumblr, yeah. I believe the skills are still there but I’ll definitely be a bit rusty.
Did you have a customized cursor?  Oh, no. Wasn’t a fan of those as I found them a bit tacky.
Did you use glitter graphics?  Also found those tacky haha no, I never used those.
Do you remember posting glitter graphics on friends' pages?  Nope.
Did you make "dolls"?  I don’t recall ever making those.
Did you use photo captions?  Not sure what this is referring to so let’s just say no.
Did you have a photo slideshow on your profile?  Hmmm nope, I don’t think so.
Xanga
Did you have a Xanga account back in the day?  No. It wasn’t big here so I had never heard of it until I started taking surveys on here and heard people mentioning Xanga, actually.
Do you have a xanga account now?  No.
Did you post photos and quotes on your xanga page?  I never had any.
Snapchat
Do you use snapchat?  I did; I was superrrrr active on there for a time. It kind of just got old at one point, though, and my feed got more and more dead until I too just left my account dormant altogether.
What is your favorite filter?  There were a lot of cute ones on there that helped me be more confident with taking selfies but my favorites have to be the dog and flower crown ones.
Tumblr
Do you understand Tumblr?  I had a better handle of it when I ran a fan account that required me to be more active; but now that I really just go on here to take surveys I just use the basic functions and nothing more. But yeah, I understand just enough to get by.
Do you use Tumblr?  Yeah. Even on the days I don’t post surveys, I regularly go on here to keep up with friends I like keeping up with like Elisabeth, Lane, Steph, Lina, Julie :)
Other
What forum sites did you use to love that aren't around anymore?  There was one message board I frequented for this girly/tween magazine I used to collect, but I won’t share the name.
Are there any other great social media sites that you recommend?  I think this survey was able to cover all the main ones I use.
Do you use a photo editing site? If so, what?  I use apps instead of sites to edit my photos.
Do you ever use BeFunky.com?  Nope.
Do you use a video editing site? If so, what?  Nah, I rarely have to edit videos in a super intricate, detailed way. Apple’s video editing features suffice for me.
Have you ever downloaded fonts?  Very occasionally since it’s never necessary.
Have you ever used photobucket to upload an image?  No but I remember going on there back in the day to look for images. I never uploaded any, though.
Do you use iTunes?  Not anymore. I have an account on Spotify now.
Do you listen to music on Pandora?  No, never used it.

Finalized Topographic Map of Duilintinn
King Sean’s kingdom has become colorful with plains, mountains, valleys, and hills! Okay, maybe one hill. I promise, there are a lot more hills than that in Duilintinn, but they are small rolling hills and I didn’t know how to represent that with topography.
Light blue represents land at sea level, with warmer/brighter colors increasing in elevation. Green is about 50 m. above sea level. Yellow indicates rolling hills, plains, or foothills at about 100 m. above sea level. Orange is approximately 500 m, red is around 1000 m, and grey is at least 2000 meters above sea level and can reach more than double that height beyond the kingdom’s borders. There’s a reason those mountains are the borders, after all.
For reference, altitude is considered “low” up to 900 meters, “medium” until about 2000 meters, “high” until about 4000 meters, and “very high” above that. Mount Everest is just under 9000 meters high. While Duilintinn’s mountains don’t reach anything near the heights of Everest, at 4000 meters they are equal to the size of the Andes Mountain Range in South America.
This map teaches us two cool things about Duilintinn’s geography.
One, the Northern and Southern mountains expand behind the Western Forest and likely connect! This makes sense when you remember that the geography of Northern Italy is very similar to Duilintinn (and a very handy climate reference as a result). As you can see in the image below (forgive the bad quality), the mountains flanking this real-world region to the north and south join together in the west, just like the mountains seem to do on the map above.
Tumblr media
Two, there must have once been a huge lake in the dip of land where House Marvin is located. I even planned to put a lake in that area before I realized this! Since bodies of water wear down the land around them, it makes sense that the lake would have worn down the region around it over time. Alternatively, it might have just dried up! Who knows. Either way, it’s just a cool bit of history.
Next stop, routing rivers based on this elevation map! I still intend to keep the same basic layout as the rough map I posted this morning, just following the geography better. Hopefully Anti won’t show up while I’m on a map-making spree...

Day 2: Passive Income, A way out of the trap
Let me first say that passive income is made very actively. I have seen others have multiple income streams by going crazy on their ventures and working upwards of 80 hours a week to get their money together. So by no means am I here trying to be lazy and become rich at the same time. I am in a hole right now, and I believe that having mechanisms to generate profits while I I sleep will get me out sooner.
In this scary journey, I believe it is important to start of on the right foot. With the amount of debt I have and my unemployed status, I quickly realized that this is the time for me to set things in motion that will help me make money while I sleep or (eventually) work my job(s). Those things are called passive income.
So I went on a Youtube video and blogpost spree to figure out what passive income ideas can work for me. And believe me when I say I am shook.
I decided to watch max. 20 Youtube videos and read at least 10 blogposts about my options in this area before making my first moves, because I am too broke to risk significant amounts of money on sense. It was a riveting round of discovery that inspired me to stay the course and increased my belief that I can actually do this. I have discovered ... ways that I could make money passively in the next 3-5 years, with the first .... being suitable for the next 12 months! Take a look:
1. BLOGGING
youtube
Ryan specifies that niche blogging is where the money can be made. What he seems to mean by that is that you can blog about something you are:
- passionate about (or at least like) - using products in, so you can do reviews - using services in, so you can do reviews
People interested in this niche can then find you and using whatever you recommend, making passive income through affiliate marketing possible.
2.  AFFILIATE MARKETING
I don't shop as I used to but getting a reward for bringing in new customers sounds like a possible income stream. I do believe that traffic is an issue. I am slightly more motivated to start a Youtube channel with loads of subscribers as THE goal. Amazon is the giant source for this income stream and some influencers mentioned this.
- Patricia Bright, also mentioned Rewardstyle - Graham has great advice on review videos & affiliate marketing and also mentions WeBull (which he has an affiliate link for) - Ryan explains that Amazon has one of the easiest ways of starting to make passive income through affiliate marketing
3. SPECIFIC AFFILIATE PROGRAMS
Cyclone, Godaddy and Siteground have been recommended. Travel companies, like Booking.com,  are also ways of making money. But it depends on my interests and where my traffic comes from.
4. CREATING COMPARISON CONTENT
So this is a way of making more money out of blogs and vlogs by comparing products in a review. I consider that to be an element of success in affiliate marketing.
5. APP REVIEWS
This is literally reviewing apps that you like to use or even don't enjoy. This can be done on blogs and vlogs, with the support of app developers or even without. Ryan shows that this an easy way to bet started in affiliate marketing. I believe him! But it is not very lucrative.
6. CREATE YOUR OWN DIGITAL PRODUCTS/SERVICES
So Fiver and Upwork are places where people offer their services digitally. But the digital produtcs.... mwah I am not sure what I could create. So I need to investigate this more. Plus again, I will need traffic (Web traffic is the amount of data sent and received by visitors to a website). Patricia Bright even explains how she created her digital products by popular demand, meaning she already was an influencer (a person with the ability to influence potential buyers of a product or service by promoting or recommending the items on social media).
Another way of looking at digital services is online courses. Ryan shares how he made over $70k (€62k) in a year from selling these, and grew that to nearly $30k(€26k) in a month ($360k (€317k) a year) by applying increasingly better affiliate marketing. I love teaching and there are people out there who could be my customers, so why not try this? I do believe that being an influencer is necessary for this.
7. YOUTUBE
Here we are at the HOLY GRAIL. The king of online video streaming, empire of possible income streams: Youtube. Right now, you can only start monetizing your channel once you have 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time, which I don't know how I will reach if I want to remain anonymous... Or maybe I should Batman/Bruce Wayne the situation and keep my online grind separate from my online journaling.
The thing is, once my channel is monetized, I can make money from #1-#6.
8. LONG TAIL KEYWORDS
This one is very new to me, but now that I know it, I will use it like crazy. Apparently when you do not have the authority and size of a true influencer yet, you can profit from keywords that the "big players", like Ryan calls them, do not go for. When you go to the Youtube search bar and  type in the popular keyword that they do use , you have longer keywords that show up. The longer keywords can be those that aren't as popular but also don't have as much competition in the, And I can use these to create blogging and vlogging content to grow my platform(s). This in turn will lead to more money.
9. CREATE A NEWSLETTER
A newsletter is a printed or electronic report containing news concerning of the activities of a business or an organization that is sent to its members, customers, employees or other subscribers.
I did not know this before, but even the newsletter  can make me money. once I have #1-#7 down, my subscribers can "buy me a coffee" buy giving a few bucks, stay connected to my brand and bring in more people. SMART.
10. EMAIL MARKETING
This is an automated way of sending emails as responses to customers/followers/subscribers or as part of a marketing campagne. Ryan recommends Aweber (plus link), but I am sure that once #1-#9 are up and running I will be an affiliate to companies as well and will market them right here.
11. MEMBERSHIP SITES
Patreon is mentioned but a membership site that is making people loads of money is of course the infamous OnlyFans. I am not interested in becoming a new member of the adult industry, so I don't see how Only Fans will work for me. So making residual income by having paid members on Patreon seems like a good idea. Youtube now also have a membership option, but only for bigger channels, so I will need to build a great platform for all of this to work. I need to be a true influencer by this point. Ryan recommends Teachable (which he shares another link for).
12. SOCIAL MEDIA - ADS
Making ad revenue through social media, makes sense once #1-#11 are done right and growing my platform(s). In this list, I am realizing that for an old Millennial I have been sleeping on this, nay, I have been in a true deep coma for a , while money was being made left, right and center. OMG. Btw yes #7 already addresses Youtube, but ad revenue can also be made on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and on my blog(s).
13. FACEBOOK ADS
Ryan explains that you can optimise these ads for other companies. It is passive, because you aren't paid per hour but per client.
14 INSTAGRAM MARKETING
Ryan mentions Instagram Marketing, which will take some research, but can help me make passive income as well. Once I know how to do #12, building a business like this will be easier. Plus in hiring VA's to do the actual work, this can become a source of passive income.
15. RECURRING REVENUE AFFILIATES
This is when the affiliate link leads to a subscription instead of a single sale. So you make money every month (or week/year) after the customer subscribes. Ryan recommends Teachable (he's an affiliate).
16. SOCIAL MEDIA BRAND PARTNERSHIPS
This is different from Affiliate marketing, because you need to really bring value to the table of a company to become an ambassador or partner of their brand. The pay is good, according to Patricia Bright, you are able to make anywhere from £2000 to £30000 per gig (approx. €2200-€33000 at the moment). So once I have #1-#9 rolling, this can and will drag me out of the hole I am in, like a mother would pull her child out of a terrible situation. Building this platform just went from a possible theoretic situation, to an actual realistic goal.
17. SPEAKING & CONSULTING GIGS
Once I have #1-#10 down, I believe this point will be easier, and consulting digitally through prepacked courses can offer a great source of income like Udemy, Udacity and Coursera, I am however noticing that visibility is very important in this list, but bare with me. My quest is not over. Patricia Bright says that you should know your work but also put yourself out there as an expert, and package the information in a way that is easily consumed by your customers (I am paraphrasing here) . In this journey, I started off thinking I was a Master of None. But really, I haven't monetized any of the skills I have mastered so far. The world is mine,
18. SELL A PRODUCT ONLINE
This is regarding physical products, but it can generate passive income, via dropshipping ( Dropshipping is an order fulfillment method that does not require a business to keep products in stock. Instead, the store sells the product, and passes on the sales order to a third-party supplier, who then ships the order to the customer). As Patricia Bright says there is nothing passive about this. And I believe that this income stream will start to make sense once I have traffic that will actually buy my products, or when I sell products for a very attractive price compared to my competitors. Because of how much is needed to start with this, I do not consider this to be a good way to start making money as a beginner. But I did add it to the list, because it is a realistic option somewhere down the line.
This a work in progress, so I will update this later
