Note to Postpartum Moms - It’s okay NOT to “bounce back” and run immediately after giving birth🤰🏾 Walking is perfectly acceptable 😀 // I know this is not something that most runners want to hear but it’s true. We need to learn to embrace the fourth trimester as a recovery, repair & restore period. I mean we did just spend 9-10 months creating a human followed by hours of giving birth. Why do put pressure on ourselves to resume our normal physical activity within a few short weeks when our body has gone through enormous trauma? On top of hormonal changes and sleepless nights, some women have diastasis recti, a prolapse bladder, vaginal tearing, urinary and fecal incontinence. And while some of these conditions may be common, according to many Physical Therapists and Postnatal Trainers, it’s NOT normal especially 6 weeks postpartum. So if you’re experiencing any of this stuff, do yourself a favor and get checked by a Women’s Physical Therapist(PT) so they can help you. Even if you’re not experiencing this stuff, seeing a PT is still a good idea 👍🏾 // I’m 7 weeks postpartum and will be taking the next few weeks to restore and strengthen the function of my core and pelvic floor with the help of PT’s and a Postnatal trainer(see my stories).
