Petition for Kevin Perjurer and Brennan Lee Mulligan to be featured guests on The Power Broker podcast from 99% Invisible.
Petition for them to be included in the same episode honestly, I want to hear those two bouncing off each other on Robert Moses trivia, and I want to hear Brennan and the co-host Elliott get into all the ways Moses made New York a worse place.
Side note: I knew that I would already be biased against Moses because the first time I heard of him he was a literal BBEG in a DnD show but god he sucked so bad!!! So bad! And he wasn't even elected! How do you get to decide to displace half a million people without ever having been elected to public office!

The Cassette tape was great in so many ways, but let’s be honest, they never really sounded great. But because the cassette was so much cheaper and easier to use and portable, a lot of people didn’t care so much about the audio quality. They just wanted to be able to use something that they could carry around with them.

I Think I Might Be a Kidult
Just this morning I learned the term while listening to the Imaginary Worlds podcast episode called: Class of ‘84: Turtles, Transformers and Toys Takeover TV which introduced me to another term "toyetic". My goddess who knew think pieces, podcast and documentaries were being written about 80s toys and characters?
I was very tickled by this episode because from beginning to the end it held my total attention, they were talking about the sweet spot of my love of toys and animated television shows. This episode focused in on two of my favs one from then and one I discovered later. Transformers was the former and the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles was the latter, I had really gotten into that on YouTube watching the original series every week during my Saturday Morning Cartoons scheduled programming.
The fact that I designated a specific day every week to just watch cartoons totally ticked off one of the items on the list of things that made you a kidult. My reasons were layered, this was the time period when my mom was still alive, albeit I had faced quite a few traumas during this period, they would pale in comparisons to later ones. I also faced something as a child, which my therapist explained to me as parentification.
Tumblr media
Unbeknownst to my mom in trying to do her best to raise her three kids she did this to me. This behavior spilled over into my adulthood in me being overly-responsible and never really being as irresponsible and experimental as my peers during my developing years. Through much therapy and maturity I now actively rebel against adulting, and take every opportunity to regress to a simpler time, one unburdened by constantly having to make decisions and care for others around me.
One of the huge benefits of the inheritance from my father's mother is my no longer needing to work. I live meagerly not wanting for much, but am the master of my schedule not being beholden to anyone or anything. This was the biggest blessing after being the caregiver of a woman who psychologically abused me my entire adult life. The fact that her personal greed lead to my personal bounty was a major upside, giving me the time and space to heal my many unresolved wounds.
Kidulting is something I fully embrace as a place of safety, comfort and stability things I had missed through out my formative years and early adulthood. I could finally give myself the things that others couldn't give me and if this happens to include a bunch of die-cast, plastic and metal toys you know what, I have abso-smurfly no problem with that!

I started listening to 99 Percent Invisible in like 2018 and I have now finally caught up to 99 Percent Invisible.
It's good but it's best to keep in mind which sections are factual reporting (pretty good) and which parts are opinion (regularly dubious). Individual episode quality varies pretty widely but they're almost never actively bad.
I caught up by making 99pi every second podcast I listened to and now the show I'm going to interleave between shows is Revolutions.

They tore down part of the original building and imagined something new in its place. A campus of buildings and spaces made specifically for people with dementia. In 2008, the new Hogeweyk opened. Instead of one big facility, it was a village: a neighborhood of homes, stores, cafes, streets, alleys and parks. Everyone living there has advanced dementia, which means they can no longer live at home alone. And they’re meant to live at the Hogeweyk until they die. But the Hogeweyk does not look or feel like a place of sickness and death. It feels normal — and that’s what’s so unusual about it.

I enjoy every episode of the podcast Articles of Interest by Avery Trufelman, but her series on Ivy style is absolutely wonderful.
In searching for clothes and how to wear them, I came across this man, who is my new style icon.

pretty much nothing! It was a rough reading week! The first part of the week I was fairly consumed with the D20 I was watching & not reading much. Then I spent FIVE DAYS reading a little over half of a 258K fic before finally accepting that though it was pretty well written and not bad, I just wasn't into it and the thought of fighting thru another 120K was appalling, so I bailed.
and I did read about 20K of shorter stuff but nothing I want to shout out so.

In the mid-1900s, people flocked to Reno, Nevada — not for frontier gold or loose slots, but to get out of bad marriages. The city became known as the “Divorce Capital of the World.” For much of modern history, it has been relatively easy to get married, and extremely difficult to get divorced — and for a time, this was true in the New World as well.

The Charm of the Spoken Word
I have always been drawn into spoken word, the speeches, the story telling and in the recent past this has been podcasts – The Internet’s Radio. And there is no better podcast than 99% Invisible.  Listening to 99% Invisible is a blessing and curse. Every single episode you learn something new and then there is not one conversation you can have without saying “Hey, there is fantastic 99pi episode…

I'm pretty sure there was an entire episode of 99% Invisible about that song and they said the "dogs" are the men who won't stop harassing women, when they're just out trying to enjoy dancing in a club.

3 days ago, i listened to this episode about how musical artists in the 1940s fought against their music being recorded to records, because it took musicians' jobs away from live performing for the radio or movie theaters. But the thing that finally made artists ok with technology taking their jobs was the concept of royalties, a cut of profits going to artists, each time a recording of their work was exhibited for profit by a venue.
It reminded me how this AI image generator problem could be solved by ethically sourcing the datasets. Pay artists for _consenting_ to being part of datasets. Give them royalties, each time their art is used. There could be a whole new industry of artists making art for AI datasets, much like the stock footage industry. But instead, the "AI Art Bros" choose to insist all criticisms are invalid, and the AI programers act like "the genie is already out if the bottle" and "nothing can be done". As if regulations haven't been retroactively applied to things, since forever. 💀

The Divided Dial - 99% Invisible
Did you know that the first nationally-prominent political talk show host on the radio was a leftist and an atheist?  And that he was straight-up murdered by a white supremacist neo-Nazi? From this podcast, one can learn the many legal and extralegal means, along with corporate hegemony, that have made leftist voices almost completely erased from an entire form of mass media.  And yet somehow they still want you to believe that so-called cancel culture from the left is the greatest threat to freedom of speech.
