saw an ig reel about not letting kids have social media until 18 and like. as one of those kids there is... no way that ends well.
straight up banning social media (especially up until 18) is just gonna make kids sneak behind your back and make some anyway. i mean, look at me, im what you'd consider a "good kid" and was very scared of getting in trouble, and yet i still made multiple socials before i was 18! hell, i made this blog when i was 14 years old!!
it just overall creates an environment where your kid won't feel comfortable coming to you if something happens because theres the looming worry of getting in trouble. plus, having all sorts of restrictions - on top of feeling annoying- feels almost insulting as well. i understood why i had restrictions when i was like. 9-14 years old. i hated them at the time, but i understand it now. when i got older though, it felt insulting. it felt like my parents didnt trust me enough, or that they thought that i was too stupid to handle myself online. being 17 and still not being allowed to have socials or be on the internet past midnight didnt feel very nice!
not to mention that the internet can be an important space for kids, i have conservative parents, and so being online is one of the few places i get to be myself. i think it would be better to just. monitor possible social media accounts rather than just. banning it for all eternity and not knowing if something bad happens. kids will find ways around restrictions that are implemented.
and like, i didnt even care about social media pre-covid. i only made accounts because i was bored. but i think that just straight up banning it, rather than allowing it and monitoring isnt good. having the option to make social media, also allows for the option to just. not use it. i feel like i only got as into as i did because i COULDN'T make socials. if i was allowed to when i was, say 15 years old, i doubt id use socials as much as i do now. i seldom used my phone when i was 13, so i imagine id be the same with social media had i been allowed to make them in the first place

"Sometimes when I'm down or tired, I love to SHOUT or Sing~ some phrases that come to mind. I've been trying to learn sutras, but even simple things like a cat's meow or Don't stop me nooooow! Always manage to brighten me up, especially when I get my broom-guitar going to rock out! I used to get teased a bit about it, but Byakuren says that I should never be ashamed of expressing my happiness, especially when it's such a joyous celebration!
It really meant a lot to me. When I first started at the temple, I kinda hated it because I thought I had to be all stiff and quiet, and hide things like my tail wagging- like it is when I go to the village- but…with her help, and with the band becoming so big…I'm not ashamed!
What are some things that make you happy? I'm giving you permission to rock out and proud*!"

WHICH final fantasy are you playing for your brother??? O_o as a big square enix fan i'm dying to know lol
😔 (/mmorpg)
FFXIV,, very much one of those games you start because someone recommended it and you don't loooove it, but you keep at it, and then 3 months later you're waking up early because you dreamed about playing the upcoming trial that you stopped at the night before

If you are not on Twitter but are interested in what's going on with Elon Musk's Twitter, never fear, I am back as your Twitter Correspondent.
So, on Thursday, 4/20, Elon removed all the "legacy verified" blue checks. That means that if you are, say, Taylor Swift or the Pope, and you have a blue checkmark because you have proven you identity and want to avoid being impersonated, that check mark went away unless you paid the $8 to subscribe to Twitter Blue.
The assumption was clearly that, despite all their blustering, when push came to shove the power users would nut up and pay for it, if only to avoid their fans being scammed using their likeness.
That didn't happen. As of 4/21, only weirdo Elon stans had blue checks. Those stans immediately got mad, because they had intended to purchase access to an exclusive club, and all the cool kids left as soon as they arrived.
To make matters worse for Elon, several influential shitposters began posting about #BlockTheBlue, a movement to block all paid Twitter bluechecks, and some even released scripts that would automatically block all bluecheck accounts for you.
However, some people retained their blue checks who swore they hadn't paid for them -- in particular, Stephen King and LeBron James, who had tweeted that they would refuse to pay.
Elon admitted that he had paid for these users' blue checks out of his own pocket. Is he trolling? Is it a weird simp move? Hard to say.
Now, as of 4/22, a whole mess of famous people have bluechecks who aren't paying for them. This seems to be a move to confound the automated Block The Blue scripts. Lil Nas X is tweeting angrily about how he doesn't want his blue check. People are speculating that a new policy has been silently rolled out to automatically assign a blue check to every user with over 1 million followers. Several people have pointed out that this amounts to false endorsement, i.e. implying falsely that a notable person uses or endorses your product without their permission, which is a crime. Blue checks have been posthumously assigned to Anthony Bourdain and Terry Pratchett, whose estates my money is on to be the ones to actually sue.
dril, famous shitposter and Block The Blue promoter, keeps being assigned a blue check as an apparent punishment for crossing Elon, but you can lose your blue check by changing your display name. (It seems really wild to tie the blue check to the display name and not use the username, but it became necessary after the era where all those legacy verified folks unleashed their inner Jaboukie and changed their display names to Elon Musk. As recently as last month a legacy verified user with 100k followers got banned for impersonating JK Rowling apologizing to trans people.) So dril just keeps changing his display name every time they bluecheck him. Elon and dril have been engaged in this game of cat and mouse all day. The "Elon bans dril and we all throw trash at him like New Yorkers defending spiderman" meme will probably come to fruition today or tomorrow.

WELCOME TO HERMIT-A-DAY MAY 2024!
I'm thrilled to bring this challenge to you all for the second year in a row! Hermit-a-Day May is a challenge inspired by Hermitober, but with a twist: instead of theme prompts, we focus on a specific Hermit every day!
THE RULES:
1. Any type of fanwork is welcome so long as it features, or is otherwise inspired by, the Hermit of the day.
2. Tag #hermitaday to have your fanwork reblogged, or submit it directly to the blog (Please note that while I recognize the value of fanworks involving more mature themes, and they can certainly count toward challenge completion if you're keeping track for yourself, content on this blog will be kept "PG-13" so that all may enjoy.).
3. Fanworks for one Hermit posted after the day rolls over to another Hermit's day (per the US Central time zone) will be reblogged in a big queue in June.
4. I am not interested in seeing captions or tags in which you disparage your art/skills. We're all improving all the time. Be kind to yourselves.
WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE? To show love to every Hermit, from the most to least subscribed, from those who have been on the server from day one to those who only joined this season! And because challenges are fun! And because, this year, there's an extra dimension to the event: a fundraiser for Gamers Outreach, featuring art incentives by @rendiggitydog and @belmarzi.
GRAND TOTAL INCENTIVE: For every $150 we raise for Gamers Outreach, belmarzi will make 10 seconds' worth of animatic, featuring as many Hermits as she can fit into the time frame.
INDIVIDUAL DONATION INCENTIVE: For every $50 (formerly $65 - changed 5/3) you personally donate to the fundraiser during the month of May, Rae rendiggitydog will draw you a shaded flats commission of a Hermit of your choice.
WHO’S RUNNING THIS? Hi! My name is Luna! You can use she/her, he/him, ze/hir, or ro/ros/roseself pronouns for me. My main blog is @as-if-unreal. Yep, before you ask, it really is just me, but to be fair I've had a lot of help.
BONUS SUNDAY PROMPTS EXPLAINED UNDER THE CUT
TFC - May 5th
While he may no longer be with us physically, TFC left behind him a legacy of quiet care and good humor, and Hermitcraft would not have been the same without him.
FRIENDS OF HERMITCRAFT - May 12th
There are plenty of shows, podcasts, competitions, other servers, and more woven into the internet ecosystem around Hermitcraft, and plenty more people involved in them: just as a small number of examples, Season 9's Rift opened up to a whole server of Emperor friends, and there are always allies to be made in MCC and enemies to be made in the Life Series. Today is for celebrating all of those who, while they may not be Hermits themselves, exist and entertain in proximity to them.
FAVORITE "ALT" HERMIT - May 19th
HoTGuY and Poultry-Man. Helsknight and Evil Xisuma. Renbob and - look, you get the idea. This server is full of theater kids ready to toss on an alternate skin and play into a brand new character at the drop of a hat. Who's your favorite?
GROUPS AND COLLABS - May 26th
This month is all about one Hermit a day... but what we really love is when they interact with each other. What does your favorite duo or group of Hermits get up to together?

Hey, so what if Jon thought Tim was so cool? Like, I think Jon would find Kon really cool and adore his older brother, but what if he met Tim and just thought he was AMAZING. That’s his cool older brothers friend, who is so smart and lets Jon use all his powers (he’s good at keeping Jon safe while testing the limits of what Jon can do), who is always buying Jon so much stuff and bringing him cool places (Tim just spends money on everyone he knows), and he doesn’t treat Jon like a baby and doesn’t mind Jon coming along (Kon would obviously sometimes not want his kid brother around, but Tim loves Jon and he was a super smart kid who hated being talked down to by adults who we less intelligent than him).
Jon goes to Damian like ‘Tim is the COOLEST you’re SO lucky to have such a cool big brother, I wish Tim was MY big brother!’ Damian wants to die [bonus: I subscribe to the belief that Damian does think Tim is cool bc he was so hostile when they first met BC he was threatened by Tim, but can not, under any circumstances, admit to it in any way]
