Be nice and don't mock tumblr users that communicate differently.
Examples:
1.) Typing quirks
2.) No punctuation
3.) Random Capitalisation
4.) Long run on sentences
5.) Frequently misspelled words
6.) Missing spaces between words
7.) Repeating words and sentences
8.) Posts audios and videos instead of typing
9.) Express themselves through custom emojis
10.) Use an AAC (Augmentative and alternative communication) device
Some users have intellectual disabilities, use speech to text, struggle with grammar, have hand tremmers, have high support needs, etc.
Regardless of how they communicate and their reason why, they still deserve respect. They are trying their best.

For anyone who is semi verbal, nonverbal, or otherwise struggles with speech, please know that there are people who will accept your methods of communication. There are people who won't infantilize you for using AAC, communication cards, making noises instead of words, etc. There are people who won't expect you to pick the mask up again when you stop being so 'talkative'. There are people who don't mind waiting for you to sort your thoughts, and are happy to include you in the conversation.
There are people who accept you as yourself, and I don't just mean toleration.

Reminder that languages have tens of thousands of words if you only count common words, and hundreds of thousands if you count more specific / niche words from fields like jobs, sciences, hobbies, etc. There is no AAC board with tons of folders complex enough to hold all of them. If someone cant manually type in /spell their own additional words they can be severely limited in what they can talk about, even with creative work arounds. Be mindful that many AAC users are limited in their words by their communication method, even if they cognitively understand more words and areas than they can talk about.

I’m. Still. An. Adult. I’m still an adult! Even when I’m using aac. Even when I’m stimming. Even when I refuse eye contact. I’m still an adult! Stop treating autistic people like they’re children. We aren’t children! Yes, I may have interests that are “childish”, yes I may need more time with things, yes I may need patience. But I’m still an adult! It annoys me so much when I’m babied by those around me. I’m still a person, I’m still a teenager, I’m still a adult.

it easy change my voice on AAC.
easier than mouth speak people.
go to setting. go to voices. look, there entire lists. you can try them on like coats in mall. if don’t like them, in press of button you can have something new.
some, can change pitch. can make deeper. can make higher. can make faster. can make slower.
world in your tablet.
it hard change my voice on AAC.
my AAC. is my voice. is identity.
can change with press of button. but not so easy. we have history. my identity entangled with how AAC sound. how i sound.
change voice feel like loss of identity. feel empty. feel lost. feel like line carve in stone, divide me in past and future.
it hard change my voice on AAC.
do speaking people have to choose from limited list of pre synthesized voices? do speaking people run into other speaking people with same. exact. voice as them, same pronounciation errors, same annunciations, same tone, same exclamation?
do speaking people have to compromise within self and share that same voice with other people, a voice that yours but never fully yours?
it hard change my voice on AAC.
mouth speak people. as they age. mature. grow old. switch context. voice naturally changes. voice grows with them.
mine stops. mine frozen in time.
transition from one life stage to another. should i change a voice? to make pallatable for people around me, more professional, more mature, more “taken seriously,” but lose self in process?
it hard change my voice on AAC.
many choices for “standard” (< white) american (< USA) english. many choices for british english. some choices for spanish.
where my diaspora accents? where my languages?
can my friend not speak their mother tongue?
- thank you for give me outlet for voice, but you all that i have
from nonverbal full time aac user
(as in nonverbal all the time)

Pixie be AAC device user is not a young child . and . but all AAC device vocabularies exactly same as the for children . no words for relationships and more “adult “ conversations .
have not seen any AAC device vocabulary have words for any “private” body parts . can not tell caregivers about having a problem with some “ private “ body part . no pages for to talk about serious brain “trouble” either .
we people what use AAC devices are very most likely to be hurt by bad people because them people know we can not tell really what happened .
AAC device businesses need to do better. speech pathologists need to do better , and caregivers , and parents , and guardians . all need to do better .

It is not inappropriate for AAC users to have acsess to swear words.
My peers started swearing at around age 10, and if that is what language the speaking people of that age are using, nonspeaking people have the same right.
Not giving us acsess to the same type of language as our peers feels alienating, it doesn't let us communicate with the same language and terms our peers and friends do. We are not babies. We are not stupid. We are the same as our speaking peers. Just because you can sometimes control what language we use, doesnt mean you should.

Help me buy my aac tablet!
If can’t donate please reshare!
Hello, I’m Amy! I’m a minor with autism and a speech impairment. I’ve gotten to a point in my life where speech only irritates me and sends me into a shutdown. AAC was my only form of communication during times like this and I need that back for my health.
My family can’t currently afford to buy one and because of my age and disabilities, I can’t work. Originally I was using my phone and tablet as an aac device but having the app on my phone wasn’t working anymore. My tablet recently got broken so both options are gone.
My goal is $260. This will pay for the tablet and app. App want meant go on sell some time around October 15, this would be best time buy both
Cashapp: babyfaceslider
PayPal: Spooksforsammy
(Boyfriend manages account; is his just using since can’t have own)
Will maybe open commissions get more money.

It's okay to like picture based AAC more than Text to Speech even if you can type. Maybe it takes you longer to make a sentence than with regular typing but that's okay too. Communication should be as easy and stress free for you as possible, even if that takes more time.

Confusion with semi-verbalism
I think a lot of people get confused with semi- verbalism. They think it’s something like selective mutism, or situational mutism as some call it. For me, that is apart of it but isn’t all of it.
What’s it mean?:
For me being semi verbal means its a constant state. I’m always struggling with verbal communication. I’m always stuttering over my words, saying things I don’t mean, or unreliable speech. Sometime, yes, it does mean that I can’t talk in certain situations. However, this isn’t the extent of my communication. I need several days in advance to talk with friends. With family my communication is eh, but it can be unreliable, and I often get in trouble for saying things I don’t mean.
I use an AAC device now, but I still struggle because sometimes even typing doesn’t make my brain work. Sometimes the words get stuck and I have to pause and be like “what was I saying?” Or try and find the word I meant or a similar one. It can be frustrating, and does cause a lot of meltdowns.
Recently, regression has hit me hard. In the past, speech was ok but still a bit unreliable. Now, it’s pretty unreliable, and although I can have conversations my words are slurred, too fast, some words skipped, stuttering, just overall a hard time. Semi-verbalism isn’t just losing my speech sometimes. It’s losing my speech all the time. Wether that be a word, a stutter, or something more. It’s a constant struggle, constant tension, constant frustration.
I want people to realize that it’s ok to use terms that fit you, but use the terms that actually fit you. Don’t steal the terms of semi-speaking and non-speaking people.

hi! im cyrus, i am an autistic 18 year old, and i experience selective mutism.
in the recent months, i have been doing research into AAC to make communication easier during college, but I've found that AAC tools are.... really fucking expensive. It angers me that these apps cost hundreds of dollars. So, ive decided to code my own.
I come across a problem with this, though. I dont know how to code. but i remembered an online coding program from elementary school: scratch, which is available to anyone with a computer or phone.
So, if i may ask, can the AAC user side of tumblr help me make this a reality? I plan to make this based on button pressing, so what kind of words should i include? Im relatively new to AAC so any help is appreciated !!!
