*inhales* IT IS TIME FOR ME TO ANSWER THIS! i’m going to skip the irrelevant ones, and some of the boring stuff too (i kept the rest because it’s useful even if my response isn’t insightful lol)

1. Are they happy with their body?

yeah! he’s not like, super show-offy about it, but adam likes himself. he works hard (swims to work aka prison island every day, plus he works out like 3-5 times just for fun or to wake up/sleep) so even though he eats like shit, he likes exercising! buff bird likes working out but doesn’t care for health or looks or about how people see him (but he is quite flattered and awkward when receiving compliments)

2. Do they have any secret piercings or tattoos?

nope, he’s not allowed tattoos because he’s not an official rogue aka firstborn. he’s not afraid of piercings, he just doesn’t want to have to be responsible for or committed to them 🥴

3. Do they collect anything?

if he finds random shit on his swim to work, sure! the occasional deep diving and beach walking will result in some trinkets, which he has a habit of collecting for a certain jackdaw with a hoarder habit

4. What is their favorite music genre?

adam is the type of guy who exclusively listens to video game soundtracks. this REALLY bothers storm but at least he can appreciate a good OST!

5. What music genre, if any, do they hate the most?

it’s not hatred, but adam is absolutely CLUELESS about music. doesn’t know shit about it. thinks it all sounds the same (but not in a dismissive way, he’s just genuinely convinced all music regardless of genre is the same song)

6. What is their phone background/lock screen?

literally just the default because he can’t pick one 💀

7. What is their shoe size?

not sure what the mobian scale is, but he’s a large guy in height and build so like. dude needs human shoes that are on the larger end of things

9. Do they have a favorite professional sport?

hockey (i am projecting) he just likes sports with big people in cold temperatures! but he’d never play dude can’t skate for shit (his entire family and bloodline is cursed with being super clumsy)

10. How do they decorate their living space?

basically not at all lol. basic ikea furniture and thrifted items for some flavour/if they were a good deal

11. Are they messy, or do they clean up?

he’s not messy like the stereotypical bachelor in his 20’s vibes, but he’s not super clean either. like, there will be occasional clutter or a lack of decoration and supplies that feels incomplete

he loafs,,, somehow. despite being a large fucking albatross

a strong no! his favourite meal is lunchables with dino nuggies and smiley fries. a side of caprisun and cosmic brownies for dessert. you know someone like him.

he got stabbed a couple times! also fell off a tall building. also a boat smashed into him. oh and he almost got blown to bits when his work exploded, but he slept through his alarm that day and thankfully missed out. (no one knows how adam is alive)

he plays literally anything and everything, but i recently got reattached to what remains of edith finch (GO PLAY IT IF YOU HAVENT IT’S AN ARTFORM IN ITSELF) which is probably a game he’d adore and treasure immensely

not really, but his fighting style if you push him to that extent? let’s call it lethal. dude can probably lift the chaotix’s detectivr agency so long as someone can balance the weight on the other side (it’s awkward to carry a house by yourself)

NEVER. he is very gentle and non-combative (aka angel)

adam has permanent eyeliner and looks absolutely stunning. however, this is because he is an albatross and not because he knows how makeup works. it would be a bit redundant since his face already looks like makeup, but he wouldn’t mind if someone tried out a look on him

neither hehe he likes neutral cold or neutral warm. but he does have. a high tolerance so it’s honestly the same thing!

he didn’t believe in it mainly out of disinterest, but one might argue he found it with a certain bug lady ;)

adam has an older sibling! i can’t say much about them because ✨bsc lore spoilers✨ but he likes them a lot! they’re him but better in every single way which he is very happy with because adam doesn’t like attention.

he thinks he’s boring (he isn’t). i think he is TOO. PASSIVE. like he’s not a pushover, but i wish he would get angry more!!!

good question! he’s a lovable brother-father figure to everyone he ended up housing (every bird ever and fiona at one point) but at the same time, he’s quite intimidating when you don’t know him. so most people are scared at first and quickly realize they’re wrong and are dealing with a himbo

scary and sketchy. but no he’s actually a total loser and we love him :)

anything happening to his son and extended child-role circle. also older women usually but that is a looooooooong story!

yeah. in the right circumstances

A strangely pleasant feeling from cutting off connections and losing my own safety, the next victim appears in a room that can't be unlocked and I open my heart of all melancholic words. I wonder if I make sense of these feelings, could I understand the things of this world? Once I'm able to make sense of this pain, will I understand what comes after? Does Deadpool Collect Kids?

Here I am in Spideypool Hell, which results in me looking at the closest people to both of them. I sort of grew up with Spider-Man (video games, cartoons, and movies long before I ever touched a comic) so of course I’m looking at Deadpool first. Who doesn’t love new information? Treading old ground is boring!

(Also Spiderverse shit is confusing. So. Many. Spiders.)

And I came to the realization that Wade’s kind of...surrounded by kids.

Of course he has a kid (multiversely he has a few) but he’s close with more than just that kid.

So here is what I think of as Wade Wilson’s Pseudo-Family aka Kids Who Put Up With His Shit. Be prepared for way too many pictures.

Eleanor Camacho

This adorable baby is Ellie. She’s eight-ish years old (maybe nine or ten now? comic book time is weird) and currently Wade’s only canon child in main continuity. Her whole situation is a bit complicated, but Wade loves her more than anything in the world. And actually, she was a lowkey fan of Deadpool before she knew he was her dad. She loves her dad and she even goes behind her foster mom’s back to try to get him to visit, said foster mom being SHIELD Agent Emily Preston. Wade has forgotten she exists (again) to protect her (AGAIN) but she watches news reports about him and actually interfered with a killing mission he had in a theme park her class happened to have a field trip to.

She’s a baby Spideypool shipper too.

Ellie is Wade’s weak spot, and he only tells people about her if he trusts them. The ones that come to mind are people he likes, namely Shiklah, Spidey, and Rogue, as well as two kids further down on this list. Wolverine and Captain America know too, but because they were part of the mission where he found out about her. Super Soldier team-up.

Also, here’s her in the future. She’s a badass.

I love her so much.

Warda Wilson

(Full disclosure, I did minor editing on this panel because this is the one image of her full body without her mask and they gave her pupils that she has in no other panels and it bothered me so I fixed it)

Wade’s daughter in the 2099 future with his ex-wife, succubus and monster queen Shiklah, and she goes by Deadpool. She had a vendetta against Wade at first for supposedly betraying Shiklah and held him captive. But Ellie rescued him, they cleared things up, and they work together as a family, all three of them, plus brain-ghost Preston.

Deathpool

Exclusive to the video game Marvel Strike Force, but she’s so neat I had to include her. Literally born from “the power of love” between Deadpool and Death, she takes over her mom’s job but is a total daddy’s girl; he trained her to wield weapons and be a quippy little shit, and until he was snapped by Thanos because he’s got issues, she’d visit him on occasion.

(She doesn’t have a canon “normal” name, but I like the name Evita Wilson. It rearranges the letter of the word “vitae” which is Latin for “life” and y’know irony. Plus Evita is the name of both a musical and a Madonna album and you cannot tell me Wade wouldn’t love that)

Itsy Bitsy

Not a friendly, but biologically his daughter (and Spidey’s) from Evil Science Shenanigans. Formerly Susan Mary, a play on “Mary Sue”. She calls both of them “daddy” and even wears a Spiderpool emblem shirt. She’s pretty extreme. Bloodthirsty. Wade actually had to stop Spidey from killing her because Peter was so scared of her and someone was messing with his head. He cut Wade’s head off to try to keep him from interfering. It was kinda nuts. Wade ended up doing what he thought was killing her to keep Spidey’s hands clean. She’s not gone though...

Master Matrix

Another Spideypool kid, no shit. A good one too! And a rare boy on this list! A robot of some type discovered by Richard and Mary Parker, so already hitting home for Peter. After a short villainous confusion after waking from stasis, he was basically taken under Spider-Man’s and Deadpool’s wings and called them both “Father”. The arc is literally officially titled “My Two Dads”. They act like his parent and it’s just *chefs kiss* It’s a whole thing. MM gives off weird vibes, but all in all, he just wants to help. He’s a good boy!

He even gets them to hug!

He then proceeds to send them on a bonding road trip with just...so much Spideypool. That’s where the “Why are you holding my hand?” “It helps me focus.” comes from. And so much fourth-wall breaking and writer interference. Spidey even plays along with Wade’s fourth-wall-breaking shenanigans even though he doesn’t believe it. It’s the best.

Now we move to ones who aren’t his kids!

Gwendolyne Poole

Gwenpool and Deadpool weren’t chummy at first; she didn’t read his book and thought he was too “lol memes”. But they actually got to be pretty friendly. They’re buddies now.

He helped Gwen when she was having an existential crisis and is currently the caretaker of her pet Jeff the Land Shark who is the cutest thing and I love him. He even dresses as Gwen once to make Jeff happy it’s adorable.

I also think he rocks Gwen’s look. He looks great.

Ellie Phimister

Everyone knows about Negasonic Teenage Warhead from the movies where they have that affectionate deadpan snark between them. When they first met, Wade’s group had been contracted to kidnap her. She evaded everyone else, but when met with Deadpool who literally tried to talk her into being kidnapped, she had a vision where he said he wouldn’t leave her behind, and she literally just surrenders.

When Wade finds out what is happening to his targets, he goes in to save her. She has a particular loyalty to Wade and sticks by him pretty much no matter what, but she gradually settles into that deadpan sarcasm.

She takes his nonsense with a straight face and doesn’t tolerate his bullshit. Or at least snarks right back at him.

She’s also one of the few who for sure know about the other Ellie, Eleanor, and looks out for her.

Gabrielle Kinney

A little unexpected, but adorable! Gabby Kinney, also known as Scout or Honey Badger, which is amazing. She don’t give a FUCK. She’s a clone of Laura Kinney, aka X-23 and Wolverine, who is another clone daughter of Logan/James/OG Wolverine. She and Wade bonded over their scars and they’re besties now.

There aren’t a whole lot of instances of Wade and Gabby together, but every SINGLE one is absolute gold. They’re so fucking CUTE. Prepare for so many panels.

Have you seen anything more precious? Best friends.

Evan Sabahnur

Formerly Kid Apocalypse, also known as Genesis. Long story, but pretty much explained in the above page. Wade in particular was determined to save him, as killing him didn’t sit right for some reason, and he was certain that despite everything, Evan was a good kid. When shit went down and Evan didn’t think he could return to the Academy, Wade took him in. Like, brought him to the home he bought across the street from Eleanor and the Prestons.

Wade even says he’ll never have a son, (this is before MM, but it’s funny cuz biologically and multiversely, he does only have daughters) but if he did he’d like him to be like Evan, which is hilarious to me. But that kinda makes what Wade says super sweet.

He also saves Ellie.

Haruka Hida

From Deadpool Samurai, she goes by Sakura-Spider and is a blatant Peter Parker rip-off. Literally she lives with her Aunt Mei and her Uncle Tsutomu which the kanji can also be read as Ben. No shit. The only real difference is the spider bit her on her face and it scarred, hence the spots under her eye. BUT she’s Deadpool’s partner in Japan and she’s super cute. Typical manga protag girl but what can you expect?

(Legit buy them they’re super fun and it’s worth it especially if you like manga it’s so dumb and I love it please buy it)

Neiro Aratabi

Another Deadpool: Samurai character. As said above, she’s an idol in Japan. She’s bonded to an amnesiac symbiote she calls Kage (in case you aren’t up on Japanese, it’s pronounce like “kah-gay” and it means shadow). They like chocolate. She doesn’t get a lot of screen time, but she’s happy being part of the team. She’s content as long as people think she’s cute, for, of course, over-dramatic very anime reasons.

That is ELEVEN CHILDREN. And I’m a newb, this might not even be all of the kids he’s close to!

For comparison, Bruce Wayne has SIX kids (Dick, Jason, Cass, Tim, Duke, and Damian). He has a few other pseudo-kids, Barbara Gordon, Stephanie Brown, and maybe Helena Bertinelli and Maps Mizoguchi, but like...dude.

I need everyone to know that Deadpool is good with kids.

That promised abridged essay about Apollo and how he could be handled in a future Kid Icarus game

Since you liked that one abridged essay about Ares and my speculation on what his relationship with Pit could be, I decided to make more of these and the first one on the list was Apollo. So some spoilers here - my opinions are definitely going to be controversial. But at least by the end of it, I hope you’ll understand why I think this way and I promise, there’s going to be an happy ending so no need to fear in that regard.

To quickly go over who he is, Apollo is the younger twin child of Zeus and Titaness Leto and the god of prophecy, healing, archery, sunlight, music and various other arts, along with being a bringer of sudden death and disease and protector of young boys. Considering how about 6-12 year-olds Castor and Pollux led a siege against Athens, Parthenopaeus and Hippolytus both died presumably around the age of 15 or younger by rather violent means, Neoptolemus was already a war criminal when he was around 12 and his own young son was beheaded on his own altar with him being unable to do anything, one could argue how well he’s doing his job on that last one. When described in art and literature Apollo is said to be youthful and handsome, though apparently not as handsome as Ares, Poseidon or Dionysus since Aphrodite never saw him as a potential lover. He’s typically portrayed as a long-haired pretty boy and and is often seen wearing a laurel wreath or golden headband Zeus gave to him - he’s actually the only male member of the 12 Olympians who has never been portrayed as an older bearded man even back during the Archaic era, at least up to my knowledge. Usually he has either lyre or bow with him and a crow is accompanying him.

Now let’s jump straight into the controversial opinions, which is that I think Apollo should be an antagonist - it’s unsurprisingly for the exact same reason I think Ares shouldn’t be one, aka Pit’s status as an Eros-expy. This is a kid who gets along with his parents and siblings just fine (except that one time, but that’s a topic for later), but who’s usually characterized as someone who thinks his uncle is easy to bully and has a punchable face. This serves as the starting point of Ovid version of the Daphne-myth, but considering Eros’ status as the god of love, how Apollo’s quite an emotional deity whose thoughts are more often influenced by his manhood rather than brain, with his love life not being the rosiest and how he tried to sabotage Eros’ own romantic relationship later on the line, the idea of them not getting along isn’t a one that comes out of nowhere. On the contrary it makes it rather easy to come to the conclusion that these two will continue annoy each other for eternity, with Eros never turning away the chance make his uncle taste the ground and Apollo always being both petty and pathetic enough to fall for his nephews’ tricks. So could this be just another boring take to a relationship that satirists have made fun of for centuries? I guess, if our protagonist was literally anyone else but Pit. You see, Eros and Apollo’s relationship is almost exclusively portrayed from Apollo’s point of view in media, with him having to deal with a nephew from hell who just hates him for no apparent reason… Though when you start to think of it, it’s easy to come into the conclusion that from Eros’ point of view Apollo’s an arrogant deity who thinks way too highly of himself and needs to be knocked off his high horse. And it’s not like he’s completely wrong in this regard, Apollo has done some rather extreme things and gotten away with them with little or next to no consequences but that’s a topic for later. Because he refuses to yield to Apollo even when the likes of Zeus and Gaia give in, Eros is pretty much the only one capable of giving his uncle his much needed lessons in humility. Now wouldn’t that interesting?

Let’s think of this context of Kid Icarus. The idea of Pit looking someone and thinking that they’re full of shit is just funny, especially if this is his opinion about a major god of whom he’s not opposing morally. Sometimes you just don’t approve the behavior or methods of some people you don't otherwise have anything against to, with it becoming increasingly more annoying when others let them continue with no consequences and it would be the case here. It’s just Apollo doing things in a matter that leaves lot to desired of and especially if it means that people end up getting hurt in the process, Pit’s not going to keep it quiet. While it would be uncharacteristic of him to point it out in a rude way, it’s not necessary since we know that Apollo is both arrogant and petty - it shouldn’t take much for him to declare Pit his personal nemesis, simple “You’re jerk and you should feel bad” could be enough for that. Alternatively we could have Apollo already holding a grudge, a one Pit’s completely unaware of so he would be up to a nasty surprise by the time he officially meets Apollo. The three years Pit’s consciousness spent in the ring of chaos aren’t really explored, so who's to say that his body didn’t do something that may have angered Apollo? It doesn’t need to explored beyond that, as implied, embarrassing noodle incidents are often funnier when left without context. He would be a very low-scale antagonist in both of these cases, his only real crime being his own pettiness and inability to let go of past events. He wouldn’t be a bad person per se, just someone in desperate need of those humility lessons Pit’s the only one capable of giving to him.

To explore Apollo’s potential outside of simple pettiness, he along with Poseidon was the one who built the walls of Troy for king Laomedon. As for why are they doing this, it varies - some say they did as to check how prideful the city’s king was, but the more common reason was that it was a punishment, as they dared to plan an uprising against Zeus with Hera and Athena. While the ladies got away without larger consequences, Apollo and Poseidon were made to build the walls yet Laomedon’s promises of great rewards was enough to keep their spirits high - Apollo even had a child with Poseidon’s daughter in the meanwhile. However Laomedon was a textbook jackass and refused to give the two gods any rewards he had originally promised to them, and to make himself seem like an even bigger jackass he said that he’d sell the two as slaves as he didn’t believe them to be gods. In anger Apollo inflicted the city with plague and Poseidon sent a sea monster to terrorize it. When Laomedon asked the oracle what he should do with the sea monster, Apollo offered no useful advice and instead told the king that he should feed his daughter Hesione to it to calm it down. Luckily for Laomedon, Heracles had just returned from his misadventures with the Amazons and said that he could save the princess if Laomedon gave him his amazing horses which had descended from those his grandfather Tros had received as compensation over the kidnapping of Ganymede. Laomedon agreed but once his daughter was safe and the sea monster dead, he refused to give the horses to Heracles - he in return threatened Troy with a war and orchestrated a siege, in which Laomedon and many of his sons lost their lives except one named Podarces, whom they took as prisoner. Hesione bought her brother’s freedom with a golden veil and from that day onward Podarces was known as Priam. This story serves an in-universe explanation for many things and while Poseidon arguably had a bigger impact than Apollo when it came to it, at least we now know that this is a possible teamup. It could even be paired with the idea I presented at the end of the abridged essay about Ares, the one about Poseidon wanting sue either Ares or Pit.

There’s also one way I could see Apollo being a main villain of a future game which would ironically be the only time I could see him learning his humility lessons without Pit around, and to explain how I came up with that idea I must first tell the story of Asclepius, the god of medicine, physicians, healing and rejuvenation. Asclepius was a son of Apollo by Thessalian princess Coronis and her father was Phlegyas, the king Lapinths. The most famous version of the story goes on that while Coronis was pregnant, she fell in love with another man when Apollo wasn’t paying attention to her and when he learned about it, he wasn’t all that happy about it. In a fit of rage he turned the feathers of a crow who had told him about the unfaithfulness of his lover black and either told Artemis to shoot Coronis or he shot her himself. Apollo however did end up regretting this choice pretty much immediately and tried to heal her, but once he realized there was nothing he could do to save her life he performed C-section to save their child. According to some Coronis became the constellation Corvus (Crow) after her death, though in some versions it’s the poor crow Apollo scorched. Now her father Phlegyas was predictably outraged by all of this and burned Apollo’s temple down as revenge - Apollo responded to this by shooting Phlegyas and casting him down to Tartarus.

Back to Asclepius, he grew up to be an exceptionally talented healer, so much so that he could bring people back from the dead. This naturally displeased Hades, who firmly believed that what was dead should stay dead and he went to Zeus to complain about this. Zeus thought of the situation and then came to a realization that if Asclepius managed to teach this skill to other people, they’d have a massive problem on their hands and it can’t be allowed to happen. The logical course of action was to of course kill Asclepius before he could do any of that, so Zeus struck him down with his lightning bolt. Now it was Apollo’s turn to be displeased, and in a fit of anger he killed the cyclopes Brontes, Steropes and Arges as revenge as it had been them who had created Zeus’ lightning bolt along with Poseidon’s trident and the helm of Hades. Pretty much everyone was pissed at Apollo - while this wasn’t the first time he had killed a child of Gaia, Brontes, Steropes and Arges couldn’t have been more different from Python. They were creators of some of the most legendary weapons of all Greco-Roman mythology which helped to turn the tide in favor of the Olympians during Titanomachy. While Gaia had demanded for Apollo to be thrown to Tartarus over Python’s death, this time Zeus would’ve actually cast Apollo down to Tartarus… That is, had Leto not intervened and as a compromise Apollo was banished from Olympus for a year and made to serve king Admetus of Pherae. And he would even end up getting the last laugh, as Asclepius’ body was raised to the heavens to become the constellation Ophiuchus (Serpent-bearer) and he became the god of medicine. With myths like these, no wonder Pittoo has such a sour attitude towards deities!

So I guess you all know what I’m going after here - the setup here would be that after killing Brontes, Steropes and Arges, Leto either didn’t come to save Apollo’s skin or that Zeus wasn’t persuaded by her words and so Apollo was thrown into Tartarus as punishment as it was originally planned. He however refused to let this banishment to slow him down, immediately started to plan an escape and tried to make some allies while in Tartarus. While Titans were an easy option, I decided to not include them as his potential allies for the sake of variety. Apollo’s also much weaker than them when it comes to raw power, so I think he would fail at persuading them into joining his cause and so he needs to find new options. For the sake of driving the point on how people’s reasons for being cast away to Tartarus aren’t always equal, I could see this group being composed of individuals like Ocnus, Phlegyas and Arke. This may not be enough to form an army, but I’d say it’s enough named figures to give Apollo an admin squad to interact with. To make it an actual army, maybe some generic background folk who we’re informed were punished wrongly can be added.

To quickly go over this potential admin squad and their relationships with Apollo, let’s start with Phlegyas since there’s so much potential with their possible relationship here. The two likely did start with the wrong foot when they met again in Tartarus, especially once Phlegyas got to know why Apollo was in Tartarus - you don’t get to whine about your dead son when you threw someone else to superhell for losing his mind over his dead daughter, that kind of deal. But as time passes on, the two men start to warm up to each other and overcome their hatred. I think there’s a lot of potential with Apollo forgiving Phlegyas now when he knows what it feels to lose a child for seemingly unfair reasons, and Phlegyas seeing that Apollo has realized he rushed into conclusions, made a mistake and wouldn’t repeat it were he still among gods. So in this scenario the two would become trusted allies and with Phlegyas being Asclepius’ grandfather they now have common enemy, the deities who thought that killing Asclepius was justified. As for Ocnus, he just has no reason given for why he’s in Tartarus in mythology proper. In context of Kid Icarus all I can imagine is Hades thinking that it would be hilarious to throw someone who didn’t do anything bad to superhell for no reason at all. Wouldn’t be out of character from him.

Now to the most interesting one besides Phlegyas, Arke. As the messenger of the Titans, Arke is pretty much the closest thing to a fallen angel Greek mythology has to offer, if one thinks that angels are specifically winged messengers. Once Titanomachy had ended, Arke’s wings were ripped off and she was cast down to Tartarus with the Titans she had once served. Her wings would later on be given to Peleus and Thetis as a wedding gift, which Thetis would later gave to her son, earning him the epithet Podarces (Swift-footed). It’s not much material, but it does give a clear outline - a winged messenger deity loses her wings and gets to suffer what’s basically an eternity in superhell for being a servant of the wrong side of the war. That already makes her sound like a massive woobie, so she’d probably take any chance to leave if given to her. With Apollo being a known skirtchaser, it’s also pretty easy to imagine that there’s also some other feelings going on with both of them rather than just sheer gratitude on Arke’s part. She could also serve as a foil to Pit and Pittoo simultaneously - she may be oldest of her little group, but she sure has seen world outside Tartarus the least. She’d be both jaded yet naive, now that would be an interesting character to see Pit and Pittoo interact with.

Now that Apollo has made his allies, they then plan their escape, bid their time and wait for the right to moment to escape and for the plot to actually start - that time came in KI:U after the defeat of Hades. In the following chaos and celebration they leave Tartarus and it becomes pretty clear to them that world has changed a lot since they’ve last been out. But no matter how much it has changed it’s still far from perfect and would you look at that, while Apollo was getting his humility lesson to heart, the other deities certainly didn’t. There are still bones to pick with them for throwing them away, and Apollo may still want revenge for what happened to Asclepius. So this would be a revenge story from the point of view of Apollo and the Tartarus escapees, with a big moral dilemma thrown into it. What punishment is a fair punishment and can people be redeemed? Sure, after Pit has defeated them Palutena could just cast them off there again like Zeus and others did before her, but besides it making an unsatisfying ending I doubt Pit would allow that to happen. Remember, this would be a version of Apollo who has already been humbled and pulled off from his high horse - besides his kind and empathetic personality, Pit has no reason to think that this Apollo is arrogant and full of shit. Driven by revenge certainly, but just like in the more innocent scenarios in which he never learns his humility lessons he’s not a bad person to the core, and here he has proven that he’s capable of changing. Pit wouldn’t allow others to treat him as he was irredeemable, and upon hearing why some of the Tartarus escapees ended up on there for unfair reasons he would likely try to solve things as peacefully as possible. These people aren’t like Hades, so Pit’s wouldn’t treat them as if they were like him and he would likely also encourage Palutena and others to treat them as people worth another chance if they’re willing to take it. True, there are people like Hades. Some people are just there to watch Rome burn, some people are just evil and they have to be defeated before they can cause any more harm - but there are more people who’re willing to learn from their past wrongdoings and try to make things right in the future. If Apollo could forgive Phlegyas and vice versa in a place of eternal suffering, if they both regret their actions and were willing to work together to get what they both thought as justice, why can’t deities who have spent all their time under blessings and prayers of believers do the same?

As for what could calm Apollo and the Tartarus escapees down, I think there’s actually pretty easy solution to at least help with Apollo’s anger towards other deities - just show what happened to Asclepius after his death and that that the gods realized that by killing him they made a mistake. Let the father and son reunite, since at this point he has likely been the god of medicine for quite some while. This would show Apollo and the Tartarus escapees that the deities can not only acknowledge that they’ve made mistakes, but also swallow their pride and try to fix said mistakes - just like how in Tartarus Apollo and Phlegyas forgave each other and started to work together towards a common goal. Both sides now know that they’re capable of changing and if they’re willing to change for the better, they should give each other a chance. Apollo especially would end up likely regretting all the chaos he caused in his quest for revenge as he now knows that it was pointless, and since he’s a changed man from his time prior Tartarus he’s willing to fix the mess he has caused. Thanks to Pit’s efforts, Palutena and other deities are now willing to give him that chance and that would lead into him being once again accepted among them. Now as for what could happen for the rest of Tartarus escapees, that would depend if they’re mortal or immortal in origin - Phlegyas and others who were once mortal would likely return to the normal flow of souls to finally have some peace. For someone like Arke, it would be allowing her to heal and give her place in this new world. Maybe Apollo could just marry her if there was any feelings between them. Practically what saves the day isn’t a complete beatdown, but rather apologies from both parties and promises to do better. What a feel-good ending!

So… I think there’s an easy aesop about humility that can be explored with Apollo, in the lighter scenario it’s him who gets the humble pie and in the darker one it’s the other deities who are knocked off from their high horses. And Pit gets to be the teacher of said lesson, not else to be said here. And to think all of these scenarios came to be because of a bad uncle-nephew relationship, good riddance! Well no matter what, Ares isn’t going to be happy about how Apollo treated his little boy. Maybe he can forgive Apollo once he says sorry to Pit first and he accepts the apology.

Dimitrescu Daughter HCs

I thought this would only take a few minutes. I was so, so very wrong. Anyway, some of these are somewhat exclusive to my fic (Serenade), but they’ll make sense even if you haven’t read that.

Daniela:

Others have already talked about how Daniela reads a ton of romance novels, so I’m not really going to go into that very much, just saying that I agree 100%, I mean c’mon, it’s practically canon.

While she mainly sources books from her family’s library, there are a few she’s “acquired” over the years that she keeps locked away in her room. These tend to be a bit, ahem, steamier than her mother would approve of/let her read under normal circumstances.

How did she get these? Well, there has to be someone who delivers goods to Castle Dimitrescu (Duke, perhaps?), seeing as the Maidens need, like, actual food to survive. Sometimes Daniela manages to convince them to order books for her, usually just asking for books by authors she likes, or ones she’s heard maidens whispering about.

No, the delivery person does not read the book’s summaries or reviews, they have a feeling (based on titles and covers alone) that they don’t want to know.

As for her experiences with actual romance… she’s so very, very excited about it, all the time. Wants to kiss every cute Maiden she sees, and sometimes daydreams about a beautiful woman fleeing from lycans who comes to the castle for shelter, clinging to Dani for warmth and protection, and it’s love at first sight, and they kiss and kiss and right as it gets to the good part-! Someone interrupts her daydream (usually Cassandra).

However, her actual experiences are fairly limited. Sure, she has kissed Maidens, but she tends to get over excited. Like in Serenade, she starts to rush the process, and usually ends up draining her “lover” aka victim before anything more intimate happens.

She’s definitely done sexual things, just, well, not with other people. Private things. Usually during or after reading one of her special books. You get the picture.

Because of this, and her aforementioned love of romance novels, Daniela has become somewhat obsessed with the idea of her first time. She wants everything to be perfect. The setting, the timing, who she’s with… Hence her reaction in chapter 3 of Serenade. It’s not that she didn’t want to continue, just that the circumstances didn’t feel right. She’s very particular!

Favorite Music Genre: Girl goes wild for an emotional, gut-wrenching love/power ballad. The type to lie in bed and cry while listening to Hozier or Lorde (not that she can hear either of them, considering her limited music options). Doesn’t admit it, though, and mostly listens to indie pop when other people can hear. That and whatever the Maiden plays on piano ;)

Okay it feels weird to joke about her loving music I wrote, anywayyyy

Hobbies: Other than reading there’s not too much I can see her doing, really. She’d be sure to get into anything that her s/o enjoys, though, even if it’s something difficult or time-consuming. Writing is something she’d love, but it’s difficult for her to keep her focus on just one project at a time. Ideally she’d write short stories, romantic ones obvs, and have someone else proofread/edit them. For the most part she’d write within fantasy and historical setting (seeing as she’s got experience in both of those departments).

ADHD, BABY. Bigtime, seriously. Maybe this is just my adhd ass projecting, but I can’t not see her as having it. For her it mainly manifests with hyper-focusing/difficulty staying on task. It’s like a switch with those on either end, flipping back and forth every once in a while. She can spend six hours reading two different books in one sitting, but if someone just breathes too loudly it disrupts her completely. Because of this she’s somewhat prone to abandoning projects. It’s a sore subject for her, and her sisters are aware, normally only bringing it up if they’re really angry with her.

Opinions on the four lords: Thinks Heisenberg is a tool (pun intended), also thinks that he secretly reads super erotic novels. She doesn’t have any proof, though, and would never say anything about it out loud. Just makes fun of him in her head. Doesn’t actually judge him for what she thinks he reads, just judges his personality and the “need he feels to hide his secret”. Loves Donna, and low-key thinks she’s attractive. Daniela mostly bases that off the portrait she’s seen, but, like many fans, also thinks the hands are nice. The puppets don’t bother her, though she also doesn’t really care about them, other than thinking that Donna interacting with them is cute.

Opinions continued: Moreau is… uh… fish boy. Daniela thinks he’s weird, kinda gross, and hardly considers him a “real” lord. Poor boy :( At least she doesn’t actively make fun of him?... Even if that’s only because she kinda forgets about him most of the time. As for Lady Dimitrescu, well, obviously Daniela loves her mom. The whole family is very close, and as the “youngest”, Daniela gets a lot of attention. Sometimes she thinks her mother is too strict, but at the end of the day there’s no love lost.

Bela:

Cleans up after her sisters a lot, but still nowhere near as much as any of the Maidens do. Often agrees to help with messes in exchange for blackmail material. “Oh, Daniela, what a shame you broke mother’s favorite dish… I could help, but you owe me one.” At the end of the day, though, there’s plenty she would slide.

Being the “oldest”, she’s expected to behave the best, and often feels more restricted than her sisters. Being an example is hard! Occasionally she’ll have the impulse to rebel, but this usually only manifests in scenarios like the one mentioned above, aka she’ll simply be more lenient of her siblings for a bit.

Overall far less sadistic than her sisters. Cares more about the quality of pain then the amount of it. Only ever goes overboard if someone full out threatens or hurts her family. Insults towards them still earn her ire, and will get her to punish someone, but it’s not enough to make her resort to torture. Usually.

Gets the most restless out of the three. As cool (and large) as the castle is, it’s all she’s ever really known. If not for her weakness to cold, she’d go out on hikes a lot. Nature interests her, fascinates her, but she’d be a little less fond of most of it in person. Like, oh, waterfalls sound so cool, followed by a hundred complaints about the noise. Thinks deer are the cutest shit ever (second only to humans, maybe).

Unlike Daniela (though that HC is relevant almost exclusively to Serenade), Bela has actually slept with a Maiden before. She doesn’t really care for them enough to consider it a relationship, instead admiring them for their entertainment value. Definitely could fall for a Maiden, simply hasn’t yet. Of the three I feel like she takes the longest to fall in love, and even longer to actually act on her feelings. Sometimes resents her siblings because they unknowingly “claimed” a Maiden that she was starting to be interested in. However, she fully acknowledges that she should have said something if she didn’t want to lose the girl, considering the situation they live in.

Favorite music genre: Classical, full orchestra style, with a soft spot for swing/jazz. Enjoys having music play softly while she reads, and is very particular about the volume. Absolutely would argue with her sisters if they tried to change the music or turn it up.

Hobbies: Reading, duh. Less interested in romance than Daniela by a considerable amount. For the most part she reads non-fiction books, enjoying learning about history and the sciences. Astronomy is at the top of her favorites list, followed by biology, then obscure (and often bloody) pieces of history. Niche=perfect. Also enjoys music, even if she had to rely mostly on self-teaching books. Knows the basics of piano, but doesn’t actively play, much preferring both the violin and harp. Most of the time she’ll only play if she knows her sisters won’t bother her, or if her mother asks her to.

Opinions on the four lords: Admires Heisenberg’s work/his edgenuity, but thinks the actual man is a temperamental child… who smells like wet dog. He’s only been at Castle Dimitrescu a couple times (per Mother Miranda’s request), and both times Bela moved to the other side of the house so she wouldn’t have to acknowledge his existence. While she would never admit it, she’s low-key creeped out by Donna’s dolls, and really only tolerates Angie. However, she would never act on her nerves, out of consideration for Donna’s feelings. She knows that her mother gets along well with the dollmaker, and keeps this at the forefront of her mind.

Opinions continued: “Moreau who? Oh, the fish guy? He’s still alive?... Good for him.” Wants to make Lady Dimitrescu proud, but not as desperately as Cassandra. Unknowingly mimics a lot of her mother’s little habits and ticks, and would be quietly embarrassed if someone pointed it out to her. As mentioned previously, she feels like she has to be an example for the others, and somewhat resents the pressure this puts on her. On the other hand, she does enjoy being “responsible for” (read: in charge of) her sisters. Additionally, she is the most likely to get away with lying to Alcina, though she does not often do so. This isn’t because she’s the most manipulative (that’s Cass), or the best liar (that’s Dani, if she’s trying), but simply because Alcina doesn’t think her oldest daughter would lie. Even if she doubts something Bela says, she’ll usually give her the benefit of the doubt… as long as it doesn’t happen very often.

Cassandra:

Sleeps the most of the three, if only because she’s the most active of them. Not as fast as the others while in swarm mode, but the fastest on foot, partially because she’s more likely to simply walk places. She knows the sound of feet on the floor scares the Maidens, and she drinks their fear with utter pleasure. Additionally she claims that it just feels nice to “stretch her legs”. But she will not hesitate to enter swarm mode when chasing someone. As fun as it is to smell their fear, she can get impatient, wanting to get close and personal to her target.

Tends to hide most of her feelings, sometimes even opting to “convert” them into anger. In other words, think of her emotional state as an ever-filling bottle of water. As things happen, she feels emotions, and the rate at which water pours into the bottle increases. Ideally if the water level started getting too high, she would address whatever is increasing the flow of water. Instead of that, she often uses anger, which is equivalent to shaking the bottle a bit and letting water messily spill out of it. Doesn’t address the actual problem, but let’s her release some pressure/free up some room.

Goes through Maidens faster than her siblings (yes, even Daniela “draining you of blood is romantic” Dimitrescu). Not all of them even die in the basement, sometimes what was supposed to be a “warning” turns into “oh shit the blood won’t stop coming out, this is how I die, in this accursed castle, no friends or family to mourn me, just the painful knowledge that I will not be the last, I will die for no cause, no glory, just the bitter whims of a blood-soaked mistress” or something along those lines.

While more likely to get attached to someone than Bela, Cassandra isn’t one to do much about it. She might flirt, might even try to kiss (or, uh, kiss while also not wearing clothes wink wink), but she won’t (usually) claim someone as her own, or protest if one of her sisters wants to have some fun with them (even if it’s the bloody kind of fun). Technically gets over breakups and “breakups” (i.e. death) easier than either of her sisters. To be fully accurate, Daniela still goes through lovers faster, but she also remembers them and cares for them for longer post-breakup.

Somewhat of a blood kink. Like, more than vampires automatically have. In intimate settings she cares more about the quantity of blood and what she can do with it (loves bloodstains) than what causes the bloodshed.

Favorite music genre: Rock ‘n roll. Leans towards older stuff, as well as heavier songs. Soft spot for symphonic metal, but doesn’t admit it out of the fear that some might consider it a “weaker form” of the genre. Almost exclusively listens to bands that have female vocalists, and gets crushes on them more than she’d ever admit.

Hobbies: Art! Painting, mostly, but dabbles in sculpture from time to time. It’s been too long since I took an art class for me to suggest a style for her paintings, but I imagine her sculptures would be somewhat abstract. Her art would revolve around emotion, the stronger and rawer the better, with viewers often being left uncomfortable. While Alcina buys plenty of art supplies for her, Cassandra is fond of improvising, especially by creating her own “tools” (of questionable efficiency) out of items she has laying around. She is absolutely the one who took her mother’s lipstick. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry, it’s just mentioned in one of the RE8 notes that Lady Dimitrescu’s valuable lipstick is missing.

Opinions on the four lords: Tolerates Heisenberg more than the rest of her family by a considerable amount. She’s seen glimpses of his work, his steampunk-adjacent style, and actually kind of digs it. While Bela cares more about the science behind his work, Cassandra just digs the aesthetic. Sometimes for her art she also needs things she can’t get from the castle, and are too obscure to get from a merchant, so she trades tools/ideas with Heisenberg in exchange for him making something for her. “Can you make a battery but whenever it’s in use it makes a horrible screaming sound?” “Yes. PS I hate your mother and Miranda.” “I didn’t fucking ask.”

Opinions continued: Doesn’t really care much about Donna, but acknowledges her as a fellow artist, and would be willing to consult her if she talked more (and talked without Angie). Cassandra hasn’t met Moreau, thankfully (he would cry). Knows about him from her sister/mother, and as a result doesn’t care about him. Internally whenever someone mentions him, she pictures, like, a Goldfish Cracker (the snack that smiles back) with legs except also it’s green and moldy.

Opinions cont.: Loves her mother so much. Determined to please her, to make her proud, but often left feeling less loved than her sisters. This strains her relationship with her family, not that she’d ever voice her feelings and talk through the issue. Let’s be real, Alcina would probably feel guilty for not realizing how Cass felt. Nonetheless, Cassandra probably spends the most time with her mother, often offering to assist her with tasks, or trying to get her to appreciate her art.

OOOOPPPP ANON THIS ONE... THIS ONEEE okaaay y’all in for a RIDE. imma give them all codenames so it’s easier to talk about them HEHE. i’ve talked about a few of them HERE so they’re gonna have their same codenames

DAN. dan was a boy in my kindergarten class that was just adorable, other little girls had crushes on him. he was just that kid. but he was also really modest and didn’t realize people liked him like that. he gave me naruto stickers when we were in the first grade because he knew i liked naruto, which was a big deal to me just because most kids when we were little thought it was weird i liked anime. he also taught me how to properly throw a football. our moms worked together at one point and now his mom is also my dentist, she used to ask me for updates on him when we were little. we were both at our moms’ work after school once and since both of our moms were still working, my dad drove us home. this crush lasted from kindergarten to like the second grade, and then when seventh grade rolled around we were really good friends. he used to sing 5sos in class when we were doing our assignments because he knew i liked them, but we drifted after seventh because we had no classes together.

SCOTT. scott was a boy i liked on and off from the sixth grade to freshman year of high school. he was also that kid. but he was new our fifth grade year, but i had known him for years because we took kickboxing classes together. so, i was basically his first friend. everyone fell for him while i was just like “huh” but then i was like “...oh fuck” then i liked him on and off through middle school, and i had told him because i really don’t care whether people know i like them or not. he ended up moving high school because he went to a private, but he came back the end of our sophomore year. it was a huge deal to everyone that he was coming “back home” and i remember seeing him and calling out his name because i didn’t believe it when people said he was back. it was that surreal, my heart is pounding moment. we had math together for the last few months. my friend was crying outside our class one morning when he walks up and is like “good morning ladies” and hugs us and then reads the room and is like “... you two okay?” we haven’t really talked since, we don’t have the same friend group like we used to.

KENNY. kenny was a boy that i liked when i was liking scott on and off. it was sixth grade, we both liked each other, but i was well aware sixth grade is not the age where i should be dating, so i didn’t let it go further than us liking each other. he didn’t let any of our friends know he liked me back, but everyone knew either way because we were always together and practically best friends. we had this routine where every day after school i’d ask him how he is, and he’d ask me how my day was, and then we’d talk until our parents told us to get off the phone. simple, school girl crush. i ended up “getting bored” and “tired” of the fact he wouldn’t admit to his friends he liked me, but in reality i just thought scott was cuter. sorry kenny!

CAM. cam and i were a messsss, seventh to eighth grade, during my on and off liking of scott. he and i had bumped into each other and i thought he was cute, so i called him cute boy. we then met at a school dance when one of my friends told him i thought he was cute, and all of his friends asked me to hang out with them for the rest of the dance. when a boy made my friend cry at the end i had gotten up and said i had smt to take care of, and one of his friends was like “she’s fiesty, i like her” he had some mental health issues that ended up becoming my issues and then it all just went from cute to toxic. he was a closeted gay, but now he’s not in the closet and we’re friends, mutually deciding to forget about middle school. but we ended up talking again this year since we had a class together, he still has photos of us from the summer before freshman year and texted me them cuz he found them in his room.

PETER. man oh man, i’ve talked about peter before. he’s my guy best friend. he and i had met our freshman year of high school in french class, and we had sat in front of each other. the teacher mispronounced my name and i frowned and he was like, “oh... you look so sad” and then proceeded to mispronounce my name himself. apparently, the people who sat at the table with us thought we were dating, even though that was the first time we had met. apparently, a lot of ppl in that class thought we were dating because one of the girls in my pe class asked me if he and i were fighting because her friend in my class noticed that, even though we sit next to each other, we hadn’t been talking and she had thought we broke up. and i was just like “...we’re not even dating...” and apparently her friend was like “...no... pretty sure they are.” LOL. we were fourteen and dumb, and this was my first time catching real feelings. and since it was high school, everything was dramatized and over exaggerated, i was annoying asf, he was immature asf. we didn’t talk for a few months, but eventually, everything calmed down and we became best friends. we facetime a lot, we’re each other’s 4a.m “hey are you awake” text. our families became friends, his mom loves me like her own. his friends, my friends, my family are always like “will that be a thing” and i’m always thinking it in the back of my head, but we’ve got a really good friendship going on. i secretly tell people that if we’re not married by 28 then i’m making him marry me LMAOO. i truly do hope that the person i end up with isn’t him just because i like having his as my best friend.

JOSH. this one broke me. josh was my best friend my sophomore and part of my junior year. we had a lot of mutual friends, including peter. but, when we started to become friends, right off the bat it was a toxic environment. his two best friends hating each other and he was also hanging out with my ex-best friend, who his best friend also hated. so... long story short, one of his best friends, my ex-bestfriend, me, and him all would hang out, pretending everything was fine between us. then, his best friend and my ex-best friend would fight over a fucking boy, and so he and i would kinda go off on our own. he was just always being pulled in three directions. but he lied to me the entire one year and a half duration of our friendship. we had a summer fling the summer before our junior year, and he had lied to be about his own experiences and who he was talking to. we weren’t dating or exclusive, but the fact that he had said he had no prior experiences, i felt lied to and betrayed, because it was all under false pretenses. he treated me like shit basically, and i just kept justifying it saying that i loved him so it was fine. it was def a give-take friendship, and i would just constantly provide support, literal food, literal material things, and he couldn’t even give me emotional support back. i kept trying to justify that i wouldn’t stay in this situation if i didn’t love him, but it was really just manipulation. i always had considered him my “first real love” but after finding out he had been lying for so long, i realized i didn’t love him because i didn’t even really know him, yanno? i wrote a book that was loosely based off of him, so that was what was good out of it. i came out a strong person, and honestly? i would do it all over again if it meant i would feel as strong and as good of a person as i did right now.

WREN. i work with him, one of my absolute besties. i thought he was cute for a while... and then... well, read the next person BAHA.

ALEC. Alec was a college boy who worked with my dad, our siblings also worked there together. when is started working there my sophomore year, i had met his brother first, aka Wren, we became quick friends, and i had thought he was cute. eventually, though, i had met alec. he was the mysterious one of the two, the quiet guy. we only really ever saw each other in passing, and eventually, he became a team lead. i remember the first times working with him and getting confused because he always giggled around me or my friends would say he was looking for me, but he’d never actually talk to me. so, last summer we ended up working together a lot as i got transferred onto his team, and we instantly just had a good bond. everyone, his boss, our coworkers, his brother, my dad, were just like “…soo… y’all gonna… address this… chemistry or??” we just clicked. from the music we listened to (one time he passed me and we were listening to the exact same song) to our hobbies in high school, we both took the same electives and had the same passions. he’d take me to and from work whenever i had to walk, once sent a whole team member to pick me up at 6am cuz he didn’t want me walking in the dark. he was even my escort for my debut. i feel like this one could be considered me being “in love” just because i truly cared about him and he truly cared about me, but i think it might’ve been right people wrong time perhaps? he had just met someone right before i told him how i felt about him, and our chemistry was just natural, everyone could see it. we had an “age gap” considering i’m graduating and he’s in college, but to us, we were always just both two young adults, yanno? so maybe some day he and i could revisit and actually be in love, i dunno.

I don’t know, but if I’d spend months away from all my friends, I would definitely spend some of my POV thinking about them...

A few days ago i wrote an “analysis” about The Purple Game on our rottmnt discord server while I was watching it, and I thought it would be nice if I collected everything in one post...

-you know what? i'm gonna rewatch the purple game for the umpteenth time and i'm gonna try to pinpoint why it makes me so damn sad every time

-first thing i notice now, the purple dragons made this game so specifically to cater to donnie there's the giant mech, the competitiveness, exclusiveness, even his favorite color, its kinda scary how well they know him

-the montage of donnie gaming is super unsettling, the way you see the hours fly by,, the close-up shots,,,,

-"yes this is the greatest game of all time stop talking to me" god the way he delivers that line 😭

-i love the way raph nudges donnie here, its such a soft gesture

-HHHHHH THIS BIT, THIS TINY SEQUENCE,,, THEY KNOW DONNIE ISNT FINE

-the way they leave in total silence, with just the music and donnie's frantic clicking in the background,,,

kit’s release radar + reflecting on things

alright so let me give y’all a normal post now aka the release radar for this account just without dates.

they’re all under the cut cause it’s a LOT.

-foreboding (targets part 2) will come your way soon. jo and i need to finish writing and editing.

-chapter 2 of out of a book is in the works. it will be a parr-centric chapter. -out of a book will go between boleyn-centric/parr-centric until i start working on chapter 6. chapter 6 and onward should be an even split or just about. -the title of the chapter is Scones and Coffee, by the way.

-aragon angst is finally being written. i was going to have the nightmare aragon has be set in historical times, but i can’t see myself doing it because i am not confident enough with history. so, i will set it in modern day instead.

-the boleyn fluff i promised jo is being plotted out as we speak. im gonna turn it into beheaded cousins fluff because i felt bad for asking for kitty angst lmao

-i might do some queen x reader one shots. they’re gonna be super cute, too. i think my favorite idea i had for one was jane seymour’s. cause stargazing and picnics. yeah. -if you guys actually want some queen x reader stuff i’ll write it for y’all.

-my apex legends fic titled spark of hope will have a release date pending in the next two months. with apex legends’ lore of it being a bloodsport, i have to properly think of the trigger warnings, tags, and so on. i also have to replay through titanfall 2 for the twentieth time, and play more apex legends to actually memorize the layouts of the maps (world’s edge/kings canyon). -i will probably release spark of hope as an Ao3 exclusive. i have the good understanding that i might have followers who are very sensitive to certain triggers involved in this, so i don’t want to put anyone in harm’s way.

-jo and i (mostly jo) are planning for a total of FOUR parts for targets. the last part is just us indulging in the softness of parrlyn but that’s besides the point. but, because the events of parts 2 and 3 are so emotionally charged, we decided to make it parrlyn because boleyn seems to be the only one that has been able to calm down a very angry parr. and it gives us two an opportunity to write out the complexity of parr’s emotions.

i honestly cannot stress enough that i am grateful for all of you that follow me. for the ones that like my stuff. the ones that reblog. the ones who reply. ALL OF YOU. we are in hard times. the world is fucking terrifying. i mean, i’m an adult for fuck’s sake but i’m scared too. i write for you guys. let me explain what i mean:

i have spent a solid fifteen of the twenty years i have been alive on a stage of sorts. under a spotlight, or in an ensemble. i’m a semi-professional musician. i am a novice/amateur actress. i have played in a symphony orchestra.

during hard times is when people turn to the arts. whether they love seeing dancers fly across the stage, actors tell stories, visual artists create landscapes and portraits of scenes unknown... they’re all turning to these people for something i like to call a gift.

my former saxophone instructor is a well known man. he plays in a world renowned saxophone quartet. this man took a chance on me, and taught me the greatest thing i could ever learn as an artist of sorts.

the arts, performance or visual, are a gift. you are taking your raw emotions, your feelings... you’re making yourself vulnerable for the world to see. you are giving these people a light in their darkest times. you are helping them escape their cold realities for just minutes at a time. you are giving them a piece of you that you would only think to give to your significant other. you are taking something from your heart, filled with your emotions, and allowing someone else to be a part of that. and that is the greatest gift of all.

truth be told, that’s what i consider all of this writing. an art. it is as valid as dance and as music. as valid as painting. as valid as ceramics. as valid as any breathing and living art form out there.

so, for me to see that you all do enjoy this? it lets me know that this gift is well received. it’s... loved. it's in the right hands.

Lexi: and the first day I am there, we have a live chat with a WASP expert who talks about Jackie Cochran and how Jackie Cochran might have been a racist. And I was like, there’s new layers to this story. And I know it sounds weird but I'm thrilled that this person might have been a racist but I'm just always interested to learn new things about people that I have known things about.

Haley: No I love when these stories come out and people are adding like the actual history part of it.

Lexi: the context, the history, the actual person’s views because we often just like glorify a figure.

Haley: And that’s a lot with the suffragists. This topic has it.

Lexi: But it's just so interesting because we often glorify these people. We can't accept that she did really awesome things by getting women into the Air Force but also did really shitty things by making sure Black women didn't get into the Air Force. So.

Haley: Yes. Exactly.

Lexi: But she did let in Asian women. There were apparently two Chinese American WASPs. I also learned that.

Haley: On a side note, can we– if we get reviews can we like read the reviews?

Alana: Hello and welcome to Lady History, the good the bad and the ugly ladies you missed in history class. Coming to you virtually from my closet turned podcasting studio is Lexi. Lexi, if you were a single issue voter, what issue would that be?

Lexi: Probably bird– bird care, bird health, bird ability to exist, bird ownership.

Alana: Are you a birds’ rights activist?

Lexi: I am a bird rights activist.

Alana: And her face is partially hidden by my clothes but Haley, aka a Sprinklebear McPuss-n-Boots, is here too. Sprinklebear McPuss-n-Boots, it’s been two weeks since we last recorded and we already did one episode tonight, did ya think I’d forget?

Haley: I really was hoping you would forget. I did. I kind of– I keep forgetting it’s Sprinkle McPuss-n-Boots. I keep thinking it’s Sparkle or something. But like once in a while that’ll creep into my mind.

Alana (laughing): Lexi is losing her shit.

Alana: No, in with Lexi. Hopefully. We haven’t talked about that.

Lexi: But, um…

Alana: GW has to let me into school first.

Lexi: Yeah.

Alana: Okay, who's going first that's not me?

Lexi: Mabel Ping-Hua Lee was born in Guangzhou, China on October 7, 1897 so shout outs to her upcoming one hundred and twenty third birthday. Can we get some happy birthdays for my girl?

Alana: Happy birthday in the chat.

Haley: Happy birthday.

Lexi: Happy birthdaaay. I don't know how to say Happy Birthday in Chinese because, as is a common theme on this show, none of us speak Chinese, as you may know, as you may have knowledge of. But anyway. When Mabel was four, her father, a pastor, moved to the United States to work as a missionary and Mabel stayed with her mother in China. At the age of nine, Mabel earned a special scholarship which was called the Boxer Indemnity Scholarship. I'm unsure why it is called that. That scholarship she received, and it allowed her to obtain a visa and move to the United States, to go to school in the United States. And in 1905 her entire family relocated to New York City's Chinatown so that Mabel could pursue her education in America. There is no direct record of how Mabel got involved in the suffrage movement, but it is clear that through being a young, educated woman living in New York City, she was able to participate in activities being led by local suffragists. And then, Mabel was beginning to become a leader in the movement in her own right. In 1912, Mabel helped manage a parade for suffrage and she rode horseback; she helped direct the marchers from the parade starting point at Greenwich Village. Historical accounts suggest at least ten thousand spectators witnessed the parade which she led. Her participation in the suffrage movement led to another accomplishment: she was featured in the New York Tribune and The New York Times as a teen activist and icon of New York’s suffrage movement. That same year, Mabel started school at Barnard College, a women's school founded because Colombia was a men's only university at the time. She decided to major in history and philosophy. In college, Mabel joined the Chinese American student association and wrote for the Chinese students’ monthly paper. Her essays, such as “The Meaning of Woman Suffrage,” supported her fight for women's rights. In 1915, Mabel gave a speech for the Women's Political Union and was again featured in The New York Times her speech was called “The Submerged Half” and focused on the gender divide in the Chinese American community. She urged Chinese Americans to educate their daughters and allow women to participate in civic life. In 1917, women in New York earned the right to vote in their state. In 1920, some women were given the federal right to vote with the passing of the 19th amendment, but many women, including Mabel, still could not vote. Mabel, like many other Chinese Americans, longed for citizenship and voting rights, but they could not obtain either. They were restricted from gaining citizenship through the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act. Mabel would have to keep fighting in order to obtain her right to vote. After finishing her undergraduate degree, Mabel earned her MA from Columbia's Teachers’ College and she later earned her PhD in economics, also from Columbia. She was the first Chinese woman to earn a PhD in economics. She also published her thesis “The Economic History of China.” Shortly after Mabel finished her doctorate, her father passed away. Mabel decided to take over his role as a church leader, becoming the director of the first Chinese Baptist Church of New York City. She also founded New York City's Chinese Christian Community Center, which offered courses in English and vocational skills to newly immigrated Chinese Americans. The center also provided health care and child care to the Chinese community. The Chinese Exclusion Act was repealed December 17, 1943, sixty one years after it was first enacted. The repeal of this act meant Chinese Americans could become citizens, and in doing so, earn the right to vote. Mabel passed away in 1966. No record of Mabel becoming a US citizen or exercising her right to vote exists. Scholars remain unsure if the girl who fought to retain the right to vote for so many other women ever even voted herself.

Haley: Wow. I love her. I know her from…

Alana: That’s really interesting.

Haley: I know her… Where do I know her from? Oh! A history book in high school. She was like briefly mentioned. And I get into this kind of like my background and women's suffragists that she's mentioned, then never again. And that that happened so many times in high school to so many different women. They just plop their name in, but not give like a history? Like I only knew Susan B. Anthony, and I thought Susan B. Anthony in my head did everything of the suffragist, or suffrage movement, as it was explained.

Lexi: I actually think it's really amazing your high school book mentioned her because currently, as of 2020, no K-12 education standard in the United States mentions an Asian American woman by name. So...

Haley: So let me… maybe it wasn't a book– let me rephrase this. My junior year American history high school class I remember her name coming up.

Lexi: That’s just pretty impressive that your teacher included something that was off of the course standards because–

Haley: She was a rad lady.

HALEY’S STORY STARTS

Alana: Alright Haley, go for it.

Haley: So my gal today is Delilah Beasley. So born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 9, 1876. She was mainly the kind of known as an Oakland gal. Shout out to the American Bookbinders Museum in San Francisco. That was my summer internship. I'm finishing, actually my internship up right now and she's one of the people I had to research for our exhibit that's online now but will be in like our gallery hall. And it's celebrating “Celebrating the 19th Amendment, Suffragists in Print” because it’s a printing museum. She’s from Ohio, but she's known in like the Oakland, Bay Area so she's a local gal, for our museum. And I loved like researching the local gals knowing that I wouldn't be in San Francisco all that long. But also it was really cool if you guys look on the actual exhibit– go, again, plug– the American Bookbinders Museum “Celebrating the 19th Amendment,” we have like maps of San Francisco and where all like the printing presses from like the suffragist movement were at and like I've been to that street! Like I know exactly that building, I've been at the like Jamba Juice or the Starbucks or the Gap that’s right there. So that's very super cool. So back to Delilah. She is known as a writer, columnist, activist, suffragist, and just overall an incredible human being. Before I want to highlight that, being a Black woman, Delilah Beasley is often overlooked when discussing women's right to vote and the suffragist movement. In her early life, she attended a segregated Cincinnati public school and by the age of twelve she had begun to write and publish short social notices in the local Black newspapers and some White newspapers such as the Cleveland Gazette and Cincinnati Enquirer. She continued to write at the young age, published in high school, and spent time learning about journalism by working for the Colored Catholic Tribune. In the 1880s– so again she was a teenager– her parents died and her siblings were separated. She had to leave her life of journalism and to be employed as a maid. As a maid, she also held so many different jobs and I couldn't figure out if she specifically was a maid and then left the job, or just had three jobs at one time. I wouldn't be surprised if she had three, four– as many jobs as she needed to sustain herself and her sibling. But some of those jobs included her being a hairdresser, hydrotherapy, medical gymnastics, massage therapy, nursing– and she never let go of that ideal dream of being in journalism. In her spare time, she would be researching Black history and becoming part of the thriving women's movement, especially within Black women and social groups. Some years later, she enrolled in history courses and began training herself in historical researching by visiting various libraries, diving into those archives that us as museum gals know and love, and conducting oral interviews with older Black residents and I believe there was one, but it could have been many– this article that I read noted one in particular about their personal experiences as a Black person growing up and living in the United States. And again this is late 1800s, early 1900s. She spent several years examining California newspapers between the 1840s and 1910s, both Black and White, at UC Berkeley's Bancroft Library. I believe that's still the university library today. She soon began lecturing on Black history and eventually published articles in the Oakland Tribune and the Oakland Sunshine. After nine years of intense research on Black history, Beasley published “The Negro Trail Blazers of California” which was all about Black pioneers who had largely been left out of history books, and the stories dated back to the early Spanish exploration of the United States. And honestly I did not hear about this book in history class. So, yes this is fantastic that this was published and was circulated, but our school system needs to do better and actually incorporate this rather than gloss over it. I’m gonna just say it; I'm gonna put it out there. In 1923, she started her own column “Activities Among Negroes” in the Oakland Tribune. She wanted to use her voice to highlight the achievements of Black Americans, support Black dignity and rights, raise awareness, and overall encourage forward movements towards building space for equality to blossom. And let's just put on another note: we still need to do a lot of work. Black lives matter. She would also travel to different newspapers and– major ones and small ones, the gambit– in the peak of newspapers and the suffragist movement to try to convince the editors to stop using racial language. And honestly I can just imagine her walking in with her own column and her own work being like “I did it, look at this. We don't use bad words. We aren’t offensive. If I can do it, you can do it. Let's all try.” Like she was very encouraging of… this is not saying this is wrong which, it is wrong, let's be clear about that, but more showing the right way to do it; putting it into a more positive perspective which, honestly, it's negative. Don't use that harmful language in your writing. Bottom line. Over the next two decades, Beasley would also serve as an active member of the NAACP, the Alameda County League of Women Voters, the National Association of Colored Women, and just so many different active groups for suffragists, women's education, Black women movement, Black lives, just in general. She's also the president of the Far Western Inter-Radical Committee at the Oakland Museum, which side note, this is a very inclusive museum. Like snaps to them; they are just amazing at getting their community as Oakland involved, just the community as the Bay Area involved, trying to be as diverse as possible. It's definitely on the bucket list of Bay Area museums and I was supposed to go the week after it closed for Covid, which is really depressing because I had two free tickets from one of my classes. We just got them from like a speaker. She came in with vouchers and was like “here are vouchers that I have” and I was like “I want that.” Anyway, I digress. Delilah Beasley continued writing her column “Activities Among Negroes” until her death in 1934. She's buried in Oakland, and I even did like the find my grave so that's available out there. Be respectful if you look it up and go. And I just want to leave you all with something she wrote which I think resonates with what we've been talking about as suffragist movement, recent months with Black Lives Matter, just like Delilah Beasley in general, truly just please go Google her; such an inspiring human. ““My life plus others make a peer to move the world. I, therefore, pledge my life to the living world of brotherhood and mutual understanding between the races.” Like, so simple. That's what I really kind of admired of her, and everything I had to write about her for the exhibit and just own research for this podcast going back. She was never a person– and this is seen in the suffragist movement– of you're wrong, I'm right.

Lexi: When I worked at the Smithsonian Libraries and was working on an American women's history project, she was on our short list of women who were being considered to be featured, but unfortunately didn't make the final cut.

Haley: There's a New York Times, I believe for my– look at the show notes everyone, don't quote me because I don't have my notes in front.

Alana: So there is like– I'm looking at my notes, there is a New York Times I used, the Huntington Library and Art Museum. But for just even I usually type in Delilah Beasley museum. I do that for all my women. I see where they came up in museums. That also connects you to like history sources. National Park Service, libraries… and like I couldn't find like bios about her. It was more they were showcasing specifically Black women and suffragist movement or women's rights. Which is not bad.

Lexi: Well the library– the library was going to consider her because they had some of copies of the stuff she wrote. So–

Haley: Oh, that’s amazing.

Lexi: I think she comes up a lot in like how you found about her from a print type–

Haley: Yeah.

Lexi: I think she comes up in like books and writing based places.

Haley: That is definitely one hundred percent true.

Alana: Okay, so, I will be talking about Ida Bell Wells, or Ida B. Wells, her middle name and her last name rhyme and when she gets married actually which is really interesting is she doesn't change her last name she doesn't take her husband's last name. Which if your middle name and your last name rhymed, I would not… I would not change my last name either. Her name is Ida Bell Wells. So she was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi on July 16, 1862 into slavery, right at the height of the Civil War. She's the oldest of eight children and then after the war her parents became very politically active, like in Reconstruction Era, especially her father helps start Rust College which is a historically Black college in Holly Springs, it's still around today. And that is where Ida went for early schooling. And eventually she was may be expelled? I couldn't find anything to back that up but somewhere was like oh she got kicked out for starting some shit with the dean or something and I was like I don't see this anywhere else but interesting, okay? In 1878, she is sixteen years old and her parents and her youngest brother died of Yellow Fever. So she lied about her age to take a teaching job. She convinced the school in Holly Springs that she was eighteen and so she could teach and that's how she is supporting her… her siblings, was by teaching. And just like, becoming a parent essentially. And then in the 1880s she finds another teaching job in Memphis, Tennessee and she moves up to there. Fun anecdote: in 1887, she bought a first class train ticket but was removed because she's Black and segregation and so they wanted to like force her into the smoking car and she refused because she was like “hello, I bought a first class ticket you're gonna put me in the first class car. That's what I paid for. Capitalism.” So when she refused, she was kicked off. She might have bitten someone. She might have bit the guy who removed her. Maybe. I hope she did.

Lexi: People were doing it long before Rosa Parks, I’m just saying. Before buses existed.

Alana: Before buses existed and we were biting people. (laughing) Rosa Parks up your game, maybe bite someone. (more laughing)

Haley: We don’t condone biting–

Alana: We don’t condone biting.

Haley: –on this podcast. Please, do not–

Lexi: I personally condone biting racists, but okay.

Haley: Okay like bite racists.

Alana: Biting racists is fine, but also keep your mask on so maybe not right now for the biting racists?

Lexi: Actually yeah. Right now no biting.

Haley: Also, when you bite people, like why do you want their skin…

Lexi: You don’t want their germs.

Haley: ...on you. Just don't bite people. Punch them maybe? Like if they're being bad bad people like don't go, don't–

Lexi: But the human jaw is a powerful tool.

Alana: It’s true!

(Lexi laughing)

Alana: Anyway, (laughing), so, regardless of whether or not she bit someone, which is my favorite thing in the whole world, she sued the railroad for making her leave, essentially.

Lexi: Even better than the biting. Sue the racists.

Alana: Even better than that: she won. Haley’s face is just like “what?” And I’m like yeah! She won. She won five hundred dollars, and I didn't really feel like doing that conversion from 1887 money to 2020 money but it's probably a lot. Unfortunately, later the Supreme Court overturned it. Like the railroad– it appealed, and appealed and appealed and the Supreme Court overturned it and Ida was forced to pay court fees, so I guess that's where the five hundred dollars went. But that's really– something that's really cool.

Lexi: Wait I just checked. It's thirteen thousand dollars.

Alana: It's thirteen thousand dollars? That's so much money. Okay. It's not that much money but it's so much money.

Haley: I would gladly take thirteen thousand dollars. That's a lot of money.

Alana: After being a teacher for a while, she's starting to publish articles about race issues under the name Iola I-O-L-A in Black newspapers and periodicals. Especially like as a teacher she talks a lot about segregation in schools and how this is like not good for the kiddos. This separate but equal that's bullshit everything sucks. And this launches her journalism career. She ends up owning shares of the Memphis Free Speech and Headlight and Memphis Free Speech, which are Black owned kind of newspapers in Memphis at the time. In 1892, she turns her attention to covering lynchings after her friend Tom Moss and his business partners were murdered because their grocery store was taking customers away from the White grocery store. And so she publishes this pamphlet called “Southern Horrors.” And that's all I'm gonna say about her investigations of lynchings because this is a fun podcast, and that's a little dark, and I think only one trigger warning episode per ten episodes, and we just about a couple weeks ago. So no. After she's calling all this attention to lynchings, she had to– she's run out of Memphis. She has to leave. And she moves to Chicago, and from Chicago, after fleeing Memphis she writes: “If this work can contribute in any way towards proving this, and at the same time arouse the conscience of the American people to demand for justice to every citizen and punishment by law for the lawless, I shall feel I have done my race a service. Other considerations are minor.” Which I just think is very poignant that like, yes you ran me out of my home but if this is what fixes it, so be it. After moving to Chicago, this is where she begins to gain international notoriety, and found some organizations. She travels around the world talking to the suffragists and criticizing them for not talking about lynchings and just being like, “Hi. This is cool, what are you doing for Black women? What are you doing for people of color? What's your deal? Tell me. Why aren't you thinking about this?” And in 1894, she establishes the British Anti-Lynching Society and comes back and settled back in Chicago. This is just like all of her really cool organizations that she's founded. In 1896, she becomes a founding member of the National Association of Colored Women. She brought her anti-lynching campaign to the White House in 1898 to President McKinley and demanded reforms. I don't think anything happened, but she did go to the White House to demand reforms so that's cool. In 1909, she was at the first meeting of an organization that would later become the NAACP, but she's not listed officially as a founding member possibly because they weren't like action based enough for her at the beginning. She wanted like real action in their mission statements and they didn't say anything about that. So on January thirtieth, and I'm only bringing up the exact date do you guys wanna guess why the date January thirtieth might be important to me.

Lexi: Because it's your birthday.

Alana: It is my birthday, you win as friends. So January 30, 1913 she founds the Alpha Suffrage Club, and they play a pivotal role as soon as that June when they get on the Illinois Equal Suffrage Act passed. They play a pivotal role in 1915 in getting Chicago's first Black alderman elected and his name is Oscar DePriest. Ida and several of her Alpha Suffrage Club members are invited to the 1913 Suffrage Parade in Washington DC, but the organizers were worried about offending the Southerners and so they make the Black women and the women of color march at the back. And Ida is pissed, and she won't march with them until the White contingent is past her and then she joins the parade. Which, cool? But also you're still marching at the back? I don't really understand what point that you were trying to prove? I don't know. But okay, cool. Just a little bit of the boring stuff, this is actually the most boring part about her is I'm talk about her husband and her children. Super boring. In 1895, after returning from England she married a man named Ferdinand Barnett who was an attorney and a fellow activist and they had four children. And Ida did not take his name, which was extremely odd for the time, and still not like as big a thing in 2020. It's gaining traction, but it's not like the norm. Another interesting thing about their relationship is that he did the cooking and the cleaning and made dinner for their children almost every night.

Lexi: You said this was gonna be boring! I’m not bored I’m interested!

Alana: This is how cool this lady is– is that even the most boring shit about her is super interesting. His activism and his law career kind of took a backseat while he was raising these children and she was going out and just being a political activist and all around badass. I mean– and he's like at home with their kids, which I think is really cool. In her final years, she was kind of fading from popularity and influence but she still worked on urban reform, especially mass incarceration was something that she was really involved in and– and actively… like that was her cause. She switched from– once women like got the right to vote she was like okay cool, sort of, for now. Let's talk about mass incarceration.

Lexi: We're still talking about it today.

Alana: We're still talking about it today. Nothing changes. Nothing changes. That's a bad– I'm going last, that's a bad note to end this podca– this episode on but… nothing changes.

Haley: Change is gradual and slow.

So the last few years of her life she actually becomes a probation officer and works like with these people who have been mass incarcerated and like rehabilitating them sort of. Alana: –a lot of them are paid, and I have no money. Despite being a professional podcaster I have no money. And it's just like a way to do good in your community, especially in like underserved communities.

Lexi: So yes, get to the polls. Help your friends get to the polls.

Alana: Make sure your friends are registered to vote. Register to vote.Vote early.

Haley: Also just raise awareness. If voting is something difficult for you, like for me I might not even be able to get like a write in ballot because I will be moving and then in quarantine to go vote. It is still unknown. DMV is not handling it well for me. But like I’m still spreading the awareness of voting. Spread the history of how women, Black people, other people of color, other countries, even, getting their right to vote. It's helpful knowledge as a U. S. citizen.

Lexi: And remember some people in America who even are citizens cannot vote, so…

Haley: Exactly.

Lexi: Use your right to vote so you can do it for them who can't.

Alana: So the two websites that you should go to in addition to our show notes are power to the polls dot org– I think it’s dot org– and vote dot org to check your registration.

Lexi: And if neither of those work for you, dude, there are so many other websites out there. Find the one that works for you, get the information you need, figure out how your state and your local community handles all this.

Alana: People I feel like are like “it's a right to vote.” And yes it's a right to vote, but also it's your responsibility. I think if you can it's your responsibility.

Haley: And voting matters. Like your vote matters. I know a lot of people will even say recently that your vote doesn't count– absentee ballot doesn't like matter. No, it matters. Come on. Our electoral college is very screwy and needs a lot of work. Just our whole system needs a lot of work, but regardless, voting is important.

Lexi: Okay.

Alana: And we have to vote out the fascist. Lexi, you can decide whether or not to keep that in. But vote out the fascist. It’s the last chance we have.

Lexi: I am sure people can already assess our political opinions based on the topic of our podcast.
