not someone trying to call maya an abuser to diss lucaya like... she gave him a few nicknames. the entire show all she did was give him nicknames and that was pretty much the entire extent of her teasing him. and he gave back equally in their dynamic too. yes it's probably unkind to call people nicknames especially when they express discomfort with it i'll admit that much, and lucas didn't seem to be too happy about it (honestly most of the time he was fond of this habit too and enjoyed the experience hence "putting thought into their little game") but that does not equate to abuse bestie! that's an extreme place to go just because you don't like a ship akdjfjfjfj

and it's admittedly mean to make fun of someone's heritage, but even that didn't really go to a level where it became uncomfortable either. lucas is from texas and maya made occasional jokes about it based on stereotypes? which may not be that great but this is a show about middle school characters and while i'm not saying maya's actions are okay and acceptable, she is a literal child! i guarantee y'all were just as annoying and mean when you were in middle school XD

I’ve been watching more of the iCarly revival and realized that I don’t ship Seddie and Lucaya (from Girl Meets World) for the same reason: the female in the ship (Sam and Maya) are too abusive towards the male (Lucas and Freddie) for my comfort. In the original iCarly series, Sam was physically abusive towards Freddie constantly. In Girl Meets World, Maya constantly put down and demeaned Lucas. Whereas Carly and Riley actually like Freddie and Lucas for who they were.

Something I noticed...

When Girl Meets World premiered, I was someone who thought that each character would be a newer version of the Boy Meets World characters (Riley=Cory, Lucas=Topanga, Maya=Shawn, etc.). However, the show showed us that these characters weren't them. 

With that being said, I think the Rilaya friendship was toxic. Hear me out, don't kill me yet! I say this because they didn't give each other the space to grow. Riley wanted Maya to be the “Shawn” to her “Cory”and Maya wanted to keep Riley in her own little bubble to be the light of the group. That was the problem. 

Their friendship reminded me of Carly and Sam from icarly. I would say Riley and Carly share a bit of the same characteristics, and Carly is who I think Riley would've been like once she got hip to reality. Although Maya isn't as intense as Sam is, they both have come from not so great homes and see Carly/Riley’s home as a safe space (hence why they're always there). 

here's where the difference comes in. Carly and Sam’s friendship wasn't codependent. they gave each other the space and freedom to grow. They knew who they were and didn't try to change themselves or each other. They also weren't afraid to fight. They got into multiple arguments (one of them being gifts for their friendaversary, which sounds like something Riley and Maya would fight about as well), but they always worked it out in the end. 

With Riley and Maya, there was definite tension in their friendship, words they didn't want to say. It was the codependency, they didn't want to lose each other. for example, in “Girl meets Creativity”, when Maya says she didn't want to live in a world of “stupid purple cats” you can see Rileys face fall before she puts on a fake smile again. that's tension that was yet to be resolved. If we would've gotten a 4th season (I will forever hate Disney for that), I have a feeling, that tension would've resolved, whether that would've been an actual fight or an honest conversation. 

To wrap this up, Although Riley and Mayas friendship was toxic and codependent, they were still great people, who loved each other. I won't take that away from them, I know that eventually, they would've gotten the reality check they both needed and their friendship would've been stronger for it.
