The difficulty with watching a series after bsd, is finding the ship that correlates the best with soukoku’s dynamic:
One Piece: ZoSan
Free: Rin x Haru
JJK: Geto x Goji
Like, I can’t watch anime in the same way, they have to be like Dazai and Chuuya.
Also, give recs to more ships with their dynamic please 🙏

"You're sure this is alright?"
It was said quietly, murmured into Rin's collarbone from where Haru had snuggled into it; usually Rin loved to go all-out on their anniversary (dinners, theaters, any number of fancy outings), but this year Haru had made a rare request to do something quiet and less overwhelming like simply staying in and cuddling – but now that Rin had agreed it seemed he was a bit self-conscious of it, worried Rin would miss the usual romantics he so looked forward to.
He smiled, something gentle and loving, and readjusted his grip to pull Haru more tightly against his heart before formulating his reply: "Of course – my whole world is right here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

I did it, I published my first fic on AO3! Here it is: https://archiveofourown.org/works/50386396 I haven't written it for the Memories-Event, but I think, it still fits (although it is a little late...). It's working title was actually "Memories"

top 5 rinharu fics? ❤️💙
Thank you!! <3 put “top 5” anything in my ask and i will answer Okay so here’s a shameful fact about me: I rarely read rinharu fanfics anymore. This is not because I don’t want to or that there’s not any good ones I haven’t read already out there (there is!! so many!!), but I simply don’t have time to read that much fanfiction in general anymore. :/ If I have time for fanfiction, I either write or read through my own WIPs. I try my best to read other people’s RH fics, not just for the pleasure of reading, but also to engage with other writers and write comments for them, and discover and appreciate other ways of writing the characters, but there's only so much time in a day. ;-; That being said, I also never really kept tabs on the fics I used to read/still read. I never wrote them down or saved them in any way, not even with an ao3 bookmark (i regret this so much), and so it would require extensive amount of time to go through my giant ao3 history to try to rank them properly. However! I do want to answer this ask with some recs (that aren't my own fics lol) in some way, so here goes the ones that sticks out the most in my current memory: 1) Family (3577 words) by NamelessPastel. An absolutely adorable fic in which Rin is babysitting his cousin and Haru comes around and ends up helping him. 2) Chicken Scratch (Ongoing, 88.754 words) by MatsuokasPonytail (@matsuokas-ponytail). Lovely and captivating fic with gardener!Rin and rich kid!Haru. It was wild to follow from its origin in @tomakehimfree's wonderful and sexy art and all the anons in her askbox, to the fic's first chapter and all the exciting chapter updates that followed. Sadly it’s on hiatus (and likely stays that way), but 1) what's there is still 100% worth reading! 2) I still naively hope to get that new chapter mail notification any day now lol. You can read all the individual chapters here on tumblr too. 3) The Long Engagement (25/25 chapters, 175,128 words) by RubyEliz. It's an arranged marriage fic with tons of angst and miscommunication that'll have you at the edge of your seat, then leave you with a warm little hug of a happy ending. This is the last longfic I've read of RH. It grabbed a hold of my attention SO hard and made me pull an all-nighter just to finish it. I couldn't put it down at all. 4) AO3@Misila (@misila / @nenufair) has written SO many RH fics, way more than I’ll ever get the chance to read (i think. Might dare myself one day jkfdk). She writes extremely well, so I can recommend checking her extensive list of works out! She definitely has at least one fic for any rinharu shipper’s taste. 5) I own physical copies of the fanfics Inked (tattoo artist x biker au), Dinner For One (angst with a happy ending) and Fluid Like Water (Olympic setting) by AO3@ellerean/@ellereanwrites (formerly tumblr@letsswimtogethernanase. I love them all a lot. The fanfics were the first RH "fan-made" merch pieces I ever bought (I think?), so they mean a lot to me and I feel privileged that I can have them displayed on my RH alter. <3

UNDER THOUSAND STARS
[RINHARU ONESHOT]
summary: Every month, for just one night, at the stroke of two when all the villagers were asleep, they secretly met in the same place; aboard on an old car bought just for this purpose. Hidden by the shadow of the night, they were finally free to be themselves.
note: an old oneshot, really quite old, written in a particular moment when I needed to express my disappointment and find relief. It's the first time I used the theme of asexuality and spoke openly about it. I should write many more stories and talk more about asexuality… I hope you enjoy it c:
Reblogs are highly appreciated c:

THE LIGHTS OF THE HOUSE HAD BEEN OFF FOR HOURS. The dark cloak studded with silvery lights covered the sky of the small fishing village, and the chirping of crickets and cicadas - perched on the leaves of ginkgo biloba trees - lulled the now sleeping inhabitants. There was less than a minute to go until two. Nanase Haruka had already left his house, descending slowly and silently along the stairs that opened onto a winding and rugged path to reach the road. The only lights illuminating his steps were those of the stars and the round moon, which guided him step by step downwards, attracted by what, or who, was waiting for him.
When he reached the halfway point of that path, he stopped briefly, casting a quick glance at the empty dark house behind him that reigned supreme on that gentle hill. Arriving there, halfway between his house and what awaited him on the street, just like other nights before, his breath caught in his throat, his heart rate accelerated, and a feeling of emptiness and heaviness filled his stomach. He closed his eyes, he knew what he was getting into and, although it was not allowed, he didn't mind the feeling he had. His legs stiffened with the fear of being discovered by someone and moved again, step by step, he began to see the road. His breath regulated, everything that blocked and frightened him disappeared, and he felt lighter when he saw Rin waiting for him outside the car. "Rin" the boy leaning against the car smiled, he knew Haru would come that night. "Haru" he opened the car door, inviting him to get in, and without thinking or wondering why, Haru boarded the vehicle.
What happened that night was not a surprise to either of them. Every month, for only one night, at the stroke of two when all the villagers were asleep, they met in secret at the same place; aboard on an old car bought just for this purpose. Hidden by the darkness of the night they were finally free to be themselves, to kiss under the starry sky, under the cherry trees in bloom, or simply in the car. They kissed, stroked each other's hair, but then it all ended there. These were the agreements they had made, which Rin had proposed and Haru had accepted. Rin didn't want to put unnecessary pressure on him. He knew, like anyone else, that Haru had never had experiences like that before, and that he was still innocent in that aspect, although he knew clearly how those things worked. Rin was okay with waiting, letting him gain more confidence, letting him be the one to ask for more. Rin would never do anything to him without his permission.
It had already been four months since they started seeing each other at night, but for both of them it always seemed like just one day had passed since Rin had sent him a message on that dark night in March. The only thing that changed was Haru's personality, as he gained more confidence, sometimes taking the lead to ask and test new things. He used to be rigid, but now he seemed more relaxed. What he felt was simply indescribable, a combination of fear, euphoria, timidity, and passion that filled his body: on one hand, he knew it was wrong, but on the other hand, everything was swept away by just one look from Rin. That man was showing him new and unknown horizons, conquering him with sweetness and patience.
The car started, leaving behind the sweet hill, moving towards a place that Haru probably didn't know. He didn't even ask where they were headed, aware that Rin wouldn't have answered him, every trip was a special surprise. He rested his forehead on the cold window, looking at the sky rushing above them, listening absentmindedly to the tracks of the CD that served as the soundtrack to that unforgettable journey. He didn't understand any of those words, sung in a foreign language, but he liked the singer's voice and even the music, he probably would have liked the song too if he had been able to understand it. Rin drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, quietly repeating the chorus of that song. The boy in the passenger seat lifted his head from the window, looking at the driver. "What does it mean?" he asked, referring to the music. Rin stopped singing, smiling amused, sometimes forgetting that his friend didn't have such a wide knowledge of English. "It's a story" he explained. "The story of many memories when he and his friends were young" he laughed, somehow that song was reminding him of the life he had spent away from his friends, living for years in Australia, reminding him how much he longed to come home as a winner. Haru nodded and didn't ask anything else, probably he too had understood what Rin was thinking. Then the music changed and slowly even the atmosphere that had been created in the car changed. The songs became sweeter and sometimes almost saturated with passion. There was no need for an interpreter to understand, the music did its job of making even Haru understand the meaning behind those words. He was sure that Rin had also thought of that, to make him relax and loosen up and, he had to admit, he was succeeding.
Even Rin was tense in those nights they spent alone. There were moments when he didn't exactly know what to do to melt Haru's defenses, and the guy often didn't make things easy for him. But it was something he had considered even before arriving under the hill, back in that March four months ago, and deciding to send him that message at two in the morning, aware that he could refuse or not even feel the vibration of the phone. He had thought of everything since then, even the fact that he had to take it very slowly with Haru, and if he hadn't been aware and certain of this, without a doubt, they wouldn't be together now, listening to romantic music, heading who knows where, at two twenty minutes at night. However, even Rin in those nights of full moon, under the intense light of the stars, felt strong and contrasting feelings that he could only silence because he had Haru next to him, who had consented of his own free will to go out with him in secret. He had agreed to kiss him whenever he wanted, to touch him no lower than his hips, to leave small marks on his skin. With Haru next to him, he felt more serene, but at times also more tense, scared that everything they were experiencing could one day disappear and leave only a vague and delicate memory of those nights of full moon. The vehicle then stopped, stopping the music halfway and blocking every thought the two had built up until that moment in their heads. Rin left only the headlights on to illuminate what lay ahead of them. Haru, in front of that immense spectacle, held his breath, opening his eyes wide with wonder. He instinctively clenched his shirt in his fist, restraining every desire to take it off and dive into that boundless ocean of stars. Rin couldn't pretend not to see with what eyes he was admiring the ocean that had become the mirror of the sky: he was sure he wasn't wrong to bring him there.
"Let's go" Rin said, pulling him out of his daydream. Haru pretended not to understand, but it was clear what Rin wanted to do, and everything in him told him it was wrong, even though every part of him longed to dive into those waves. Without waiting, Rin got out of the car and approached a car headlight, listening to the dull lapping of the waves as they crashed on the beach and then gracefully retreated. He inhaled that fresh, salty air, waiting for the other to catch up. It didn't take long for Haru to get out of the car, his muscles tense and stiff, the desire to take off his clothes growing with each step he took. He stopped just behind Rin, letting the wind caress him, tousling his hair, lulled by the sound of the waves filling his ears. "I'm pretty sure it's still warm" Rin said, turning to look at the boy with all his clothes still on. Haru sighed heavily, suppressing every urge to dive in with Rin. He knew he was as innocent as he was inexperienced, but he was aware that if he took just one more step towards that ocean, it would be impossible for him to turn back. He wanted to take off his clothes, he wanted to throw himself into the foaming waves and swim in that galaxy that was reflected on the earth, but he would do it with the boy who was slowly changing his world. A part of him was afraid of what could happen after he had thrown himself into those unknown waters. "I know you came out with your swimsuit" Rin laughed, bringing him back to the surface from his thoughts. Haru had no way to counter, except to actually tell him what he was thinking, the fact was that he didn't want to. He liked the situation that had been created, he liked the place, the fact that he had thought of bringing him there, wanting to swim together, what scared him were just his emotions. In front of him, Rin had already started undressing, throwing his shirt onto the sand. Only the shoes and pants remained, after which he would dive in with or without Haru. The boy, staying behind, stared at him uncertainly, recalling the previous months. He particularly thought of their first kiss, the sentence that came after that delicate and gentle intertwining that they had formed only with their lips.
Rin had promised him that he would never do anything without his permission, he had nothing to fear. Rin would wait. He had no reason to be afraid of diving into that ocean, and besides, if he hadn't accepted all of this, he wouldn't even be there now, watching him as he took off his shoes and sank his bare feet into the dry sand. 'If you don't want to, then just stay and watch me' he was now stretching the muscles in his arms, having already stripped down to his swimsuit. Suddenly something inside him clicked and without thinking he quickly stripped off his clothes, doing something he hadn't even had to think about, and ran towards the boy who was now ready to dive, grabbing his hand and running together in a crazy and improvised race against the waves crashing on the beach. They dove into those dark and gloomy waters, resurfacing together with Rin laughing at the unexpected surprise. "You're crazy" he continued to laugh sweetly, taking each other's faces in their hands, moving each other's hair away from their eyes and forehead, illuminated only by what shone in the sky. "It's not warm" Haru grumbled, having seriously believed that the water at that hour could be warm. Rin caressed one of his cheeks with the back of his index finger, smiling with spontaneous happiness. "It will be soon" he replied, bringing his lips closer to the boy's, going beyond a simple kiss. Lips and tongues intertwined with each other, accompanied by the sinuous waves that pushed their vibrant bodies to touch and then let go. They returned to the car only a few minutes later, when small folds began to form on their hands that resembled the waves of a calm sea. Behind them, the ocean still shimmered, as if the world in that night had turned upside down and they could no longer distinguish the sky from the ocean. Haru would have stayed there, just looking at what lay before his eyes, but at that moment he had something better to focus on. Rin opened the trunk, leaning the clothes and shoes they had left on the beach in a corner. Haru noticed that he had really organized everything for that night, there were towels and clothes to change into. In a way, there was no need to be surprised, Rin did everything to make the boy he had confessed to having a crush on feel comfortable. Haru sat down, letting Rin place a towel on his head. The other boy, on the other hand, remained standing, drying his arms and torso. Without being noticed, Haru looked away, it was a body he knew well, on many other occasions he had seen it and even learned to know it, and yet he was still embarrassed. That situation was simply different from when he saw him undressing on other occasions, which could be considered normal. Rin then sat on the trunk floor, next to Haru, who instinctively lowered his gaze and focused on drying his hair. Both were still undressed, with wet legs: neither of them had any intention of taking off their swimsuits, or at least not in front of each other. While they waited to dry off a little, Rin retrieved a thermos he had prepared for any eventuality, although he hoped it wouldn't be really necessary. They shared the thermos cup, sipping the warm tea in small sips, warming up from the inside after that swim in the cold ocean.
As soon as they were dry enough, they put on clean and comfortable clothes. Rin had even thought about that, bringing him some of his own clothes that he was sure would fit him.
They both sat on the trunk of the car, closer than they were before, holding hands and tracing confused maps on their palms with their fingers, contemplating the bright sky above them. They talked about what the future might hold for them, about the different dreams they had locked away in a drawer. In moments of silence, they smiled at each other with innocent embarrassment, erasing that moment with a tender and simple kiss.
At one minute to four, the car was already parked under the hill, in the usual spot far enough from the houses, avoiding being seen by anyone who might have woken up for one reason or another.
That night, like the previous ones, had come to an end. They always stayed together for a little while, sharing everything they could share. Haru stayed in the car for a few more minutes. Usually, by that time, he had already gotten out, saying goodbye to the boy and eagerly waiting for the next full moon. But that evening, he wanted to stay with him a little longer, stroking his hand, his face, leaving more small marks on his neck, and wanting Rin to do the same to him. A part of him also wanted much more. "Rin" he reached out for a lock of his hair, feeling and stroking it with his fingertips. Rin didn't move, letting him do it, curious about what was on his mind. "You still have wet hair" he observed, looking into his dark eyes, which reflected the intense light of the sky like mirrors. Rin gave a little laugh, somewhat expecting a remark like that. "So do you" he stroked Haru's still damp, raven-black hair in return. Haru ignored him, lowering his hand. "Come up"
An unexpected silence fell inside the car. Rin's lips parted, letting out only a slight sigh. "You really don't know what you're saying" a melancholic laugh escaped him, letting his hand slide to grip the steering wheel tightly, resting his forehead on it. "I do" Haru retorted firmly, never taking his gaze off Rin's face hidden in the shadows. He was more certain than ever of what he was asking for. "Come to my house" he urged him. Rin lifted his head slightly, turning to face his friend's face. "Are you sure?"
"Yes"
The air outside the car was crisp and electric, both boys were vibrating with energy. Every step was tense, they walked slowly towards the top of the hill, one behind the other, climbing step by step towards the house. Rin would understand if Haru decided not to go any further, he wouldn't hold it against him. After all, Haru was trying to meet Rin's needs, he too wanted to do everything and more with that boy, the problem was that sometimes, whether due to the awkwardness of not knowing how to move or the insecurity dictated by inexperience and the need to feel truly understood, he couldn't act correctly. But Rin repeated it to him with constancy, that there were no problems for him, that he knew it and had already taken it into account long before. For him, Haru wasn't just a simple fun, he wanted to build something together, maybe something lasting if time allowed. Haru liked him for the person he was, not for what he had between his legs. He would continue to like him even if they remained only at kisses and caresses.
In the dim light, Haru smiled, thinking about the patience and sweetness that Rin possessed. It was also thanks to this that he felt more secure, he was really sure of what he wanted to do with him that evening. He was less certain of actually being able to tell him, but he knew that Rin would understand his strange way of communicating.
They slowly arrived at the top, Haru's house was a typical Japanese dwelling, like those seen in old photos in schoolbooks. It had raw but also modern elements. He reached out his hand towards the door, sliding it to the side, entering and bringing Rin into the genkan. They both took off their shoes, dropping small grains of sand on the ground. "Let's go upstairs" he said, climbing the small step that separated the entrance from the entire dwelling, illuminated only by the cold light of the moon. "Haru" Rin stopped him before he could go too far, pulling him by the hand. "Are you really sure?" he asked him. "You need to dry your hair" Haru replied, turning towards the boy who had remained at the entrance. Rin smiled, understanding that it was his own way of telling him something else. He lowered his gaze, letting out a laugh. "And after I dry my hair?" he asked, stroking his fingers. He wouldn't have touched him if he hadn't heard it from his lips. Haru watched the movements of his hand, which were gently caressing his fingers. He was embarrassed, but he didn't want to go back. "Afterwards, you can stay" he said, looking away from him. "If you want"
"Do you want it?" Haru parted his lips, turning again to look at Rin's face, which had never been so serious as on that night. "Yes" he replied without hesitation. "Then I'll stay" he smiled, intertwining his fingers together. They climbed up the stairs to the upper floor one by one, holding hands tightly, the wooden steps creaking under their weight. Just a few more steps and they would be in front of the bedroom door.
With a slight and vibrant sigh, Haru opened the door, ushering Rin inside and immediately pressing his lips to his, pushing him against the wall. It was clear what he wanted, and Rin was happy to oblige. They kissed for a long time on that wall, Haru's lips trailing down Rin's neck, leaving small marks and emphasizing the ones already there. Rin sighed, letting Haru do whatever he wanted. Inside those walls, he wasn't so innocent. Haru detached his lips from Rin's taut skin, caressing his flushed cheeks, brushing his neck and finally resting his hand on his chest. Rin's heart was pounding in his chest, a smile appearing on his face. Rin responded to his gaze, pressing his lips to his again, his hands touching his hips, and step by step led him to the bed, making him sit on the mattress. They both took off their shirts, only momentarily breaking their kisses as their lips trembled in contact with the cool air in the room. "Tell me what you want me to do" Rin's face was very close, his hands resting on the bed to support himself. Haru moistened his lips, not having any idea of what he could actually do to him. Rin, seeing his hesitation, leaned in to kiss him again, separating their lips a second later. "Is this okay?" he asked, accompanied by a cunning smile. "Yes" then kissed his neck, "And this?" he raised his lips just enough to whisper that phrase. "Yes" Haru sighed, receiving more kisses, some more insistent than others. He detached himself from the skin that smelled of sea salt, inviting him to move higher and lie on the mattress while he straddled him perfectly.
His breathing quickened, aware of what was going to happen soon after. Seeing his torso quiver, Rin took his hand and kissed his palm. "I won't do anything you don't want" he reminded him. "We can stop at any time" Haru nodded, giving him permission to continue. Rin then resumed kissing him, always asking him for permission, wanting to hear from his lips what he could or could not do. He wanted it to be a night to remember, just like the previous ones had been. He reached down to his groin, still covered by the clothes he had borrowed. "May I?" They both blushed, hidden in the darkness and kissed by the cold moonlight. Haru nodded, unable to voice his desire to have his lips between his legs. Rin lowered his tracksuit pants, aided by the boy's hands, and removed his own costume. It was the first time he had seen him naked, and he kissed his lips while kneeling on the bed. Haru was slightly propped up, with his arm at an angle supporting him on the mattress, while with his other hand he twirled his fingers in the damp hair of the boy above him. He briefly moved his lips, bringing them close to his ear. "Undress" he whispered, wanting to see him naked. Rin's eyes lit up as he moved away from that body and fulfilled his request. He lowered his pants and swimsuit in front of him, throwing them somewhere in the room.
"Come here" he called him, reaching out his hand. Rin complied, returning to the bed and covering him with kisses again. Slowly, Rin's lips descended further and further, reaching well below the navel. With his fingers, he caressed the smooth, damp skin of Haru's legs, slowly approaching his member. Haru's torso trembled at the touch of those unfamiliar fingers. He sighed, having longed to be touched there for a long time. Rin's skilled fingers completely enveloped him, lifting and lowering the soft skin until it hardened. Haru's breathing slowly became heavier, his lips trembling with every movement. Embarrassed about what was about to happen in just a few moments, he turned his gaze away, covering his eyes with his arm. Rin, noticing this, stopped. "Look at me" he said gently, reaching for his face to remove his arm from his eyes. As their eyes met, with lips slightly parted, it was the first time Rin had seen those deep blue irises shine so brightly like the sea. "Haru" he placed a hand on his cheek, gazing into those eyes that reminded him of the ocean on that starry night. "Keep going" he whispered weakly and with embarrassment. Rin smiled, lowering himself between Haru's legs and intertwining his fingers with his own. When the skin was firm enough, he took him in between his lips, casting a mischievous glance at the boy who wanted to look away but couldn't. Rin stopped halfway, before he could finish everything. Haru looked at him with a clear question on his face: "Why did you stop?" his eyes asked. Rin ignored the look, giving no explanation, and simply approached his face, holding his face in his hands and stroking his cheek with his thumb. Haru then sat up, responding to his silent request to be kissed again. Both lips and tongues intertwined again. In the midst of those kisses, Haru moved a hand, first caressing his chest, then the taut torso, the side, the groin, seeking him in the darkness. He touched him first with his fingers, then took him in his hands. Rin smiled on his lips, lowering his hand and placing it on top of the boy's, helping him with the movements and stopping him before he could reach the climax. Haru had started to understand the turn events were taking. The kissing resumed, but both were now far too stimulated to just stand still and kiss and touch each other. "Rin" he placed a hand on his chest, moving away from his lips only a few centimeters. "How long do we have to keep kissing?" he asked, tired of waiting. Rin remained still, gazing at Haru's serene and mature face. There was no need to ask for anything else, he pressed a quick kiss to his lips before going down to retrieve the pants left on the ground, searching his pocket for a condom. It wasn't his main intention, but when they went out together, it was always good to have a new one on hand. Haru watched him with some curiosity as he put it on.
It was a sweet and sweaty night, vibrant and electric. For every movement that was too rough, he stopped and kissed him, encouraging him to relax and then continue. They ended when the moonlight touched the wooden floor, both exhausted and simply gazing into each other's eyes, touching each other's features that they could still see even without light. "Stay here" Haru asked him, caressing his flushed cheek. Rin took his hand, kissing the back of it. "I'm not going anywhere" They both got closer, embracing each other and eventually falling asleep together.
The next morning, Haru was awakened by the warm rays of the sun. In the tiredness and slight confusion in which he woke up, he noticed that the side next to him was empty. Even the clothes were no longer on the floor.
"Rin?" he called, his voice muffled by sleep. He sighed weakly, sitting up and then standing up, feeling a bothersome pain in the base of his back, but all in all it was quite bearable. He searched for clean clothes and then went downstairs, where he heard muffled metallic noises. "Rin" he called again, leaning against the kitchen door, enveloped in a delicate and inviting fragrance.
"Good morning" the boy turned for a few seconds before returning to what he was doing. "I hope you don't mind if I took over the kitchen" he asked, trying not to burn the scrambled eggs.
"No" Haru replied. "Go ahead" he sat down, watching his every move from behind. He had never asked him if he could cook, but from what he saw, he was quite skilled.
"I used your products in the bathroom, I didn't want to wake you up" he said, pouring the eggs into the two plates already full of delicious food.
"That's fine" they had shared much more that night.
"I also put your clothes in the wash, you just need to hang them out to dry" he continued, finishing the two dishes in the meantime.
"Okay" Haru replied, hinting at a delicate smile. Since they started seeing each other, Rin really thought of everything, without ever putting him in difficulty. With a radiant and satisfied smile, he served the dishes at the table, sitting down to admire Haru's reaction. "What is it?" his expression impassive. He found what was in front of him unusual, but also quite inviting, it was totally different from what he usually ate in the morning. Rin smiled, letting out a delicate laugh.
"Something my family in Australia often prepared for me" he explained. "But with some ingredients, I had to improvise" propped his elbow on the table, resting his hand on his face. He wanted Haru to be the first to taste it, curious to see even a small change on that face that reminded him of the calm morning sea. Haru looked at the plate again, examining the contents. There was meat, and also eggs, on the side there were small mushrooms and other typical Japanese herbs, which together gave color to the dish. He sighed and tasted it. His eyes lit up, not expecting such a strong yet delicate flavor on his taste buds. "It's good" he said, giving him a smile. They both ate in silence, accompanied by the chirping melody of the birds resting on the branches of the plants.
The abundant breakfast didn't take long to finish. "I have to go" Rin sighed, caressing the warm hand of the boy. Haru didn't say anything; a part of him wanted Rin to stay longer, but he also knew he couldn't force him to stay. He also thought that there could be suspicions at his house, suspicions that could be confirmed by the presence of those small bruises on Rin's neck. They both got up, heading towards the exit together. Only one step separated them. "Your clothes?" Haru asked. "I'll come to get them next time" Rin replied, while putting on his shoes. They had been cleaned as well. Every trace of what had happened the night before seemed to have disappeared, leaving only the sheets as evidence that it hadn't just been a wet dream.
Rin stood up, ready to leave the house. "Rin" Haru stopped him, taking his hand. "Will you stay next time too?" The boy looked at his hand, turning it over on his palm and intertwining his fingers with Haru's. "Yes" he replied, lifting his eyes to Haru's bright blue ones. "Will you stay for the whole day too?" He slowly looked away, gazing at the wall where there was a small altar. "Do you want me to stay?" he smiled in surprise. He had never considered staying at the boy's house, but then again, they had never had the opportunity to talk about this either. Haru didn't speak; there were still some things he couldn't say openly to Rin. Rin kissed his fingers, gently inhaling the scent on his hands. "I'll stay next time" a smile appeared on Haru's face and, turning his face back, he gave Rin a tender kiss on the lips.
Rin had to detach himself almost immediately, convinced that if he stayed longer, he wouldn't be able to leave. Everything inside him begged him to stay, to embrace that body as he had done all night, to be kissed and desired. With a melancholy sigh, he also released the intertwining of their fingers. He left the entrance, turning one last look at the boy who remained there staring at him, hoping that he could reconsider and stay longer. "See you next month" he smiled at him one last time before leaving that house, closing the door behind him.

For the prompt exercise: Accidental kiss with RinHaru? (Or it can be also a Rin x F!Reader, which one you prefer).
tags: crack. domestic shenanigans. misunderstandings.
hello! i hope you don't mind that i chose to write rinharu (i'm not very comfortable with writing first/second pov).
also, for context, rinharu here are not in a relationship, but live together for the ease of traveling to and fro their club and overseas together (small plot device). hope you enjoy! here goes nothing:
they exited the pharmacy by late evening, bathed in mosaics of orange-gold sunlight filtered through the canopy of leaves from a nearby tree as soon as they set foot on the pavement, plastic bags weighing their arms down. they had just spent an entire afternoon stocking up on groceries to fill the empty belly of the secondhand fridge in their newly shared apartment, and as a result of placating rin's ridiculous whims (or derisive complaints, rather) about how haru would live a better life if he "took better care of his image for the sake of his cellibate, non-existent love life", haru had pulled rin into the pharmacy, insistently, to make a very... small purchase of what he thought would solve at least part of what rin's meddling had been about.
"i still can't believe you picked cherry," rin mumbled begrudgingly, stopping in front of a lone vending machine by the side of the street.
haru watched as he fed change into the machine and jabbed a finger at the keypad, waiting impatiently for the machine to spit out his preferred isotonic beverage. the machine whirred. they peered through the glass and observed as the conveyor rail rotated, nudging a bottle of pocari sweat to the forefront, but only barely. in an anti-climactic state of unrest, rin groaned with a little stomp of his foot—the bottle had tilted and was now resting, slanted, against the glass panel, on a strike against falling over into the pick-up box like it should've.
"motherfucking—" rin screamed through gritted teeth, completing his outcry with a hard kick to the base of the vending machine. "that was my last dollar, damn it!"
haru blinked once, far from ruffled by rin's petulant display of emotion. he reached into the pocket of his jacket and groped around, fishing out several coins and the plastic packaging of the purchase he'd made earlier.
"they only had cherry left," he said belatedly, reaching out to drop his coins into the cupped hand that rin had instinctively held out. then, because he could, he added: "get me a bottle too; there should be enough change for us both," as he began tearing open the packaging. the plastic gave, and into his hand plopped a small pink tube. he uncapped the tube and twisted its base, watching curiously as the product rose like a phoenix from the ashes. it was pink, but in a much darker hue than its tube. and there was glitter.
lots of it.
rin straightened up mere seconds after haru had swiped the product over his lips generously, handing him his bottle. he cinched his brows, commenting offhandedly, "whoa, haru, that's—you're going to town with that chapstick! just a little will do, geez."
haru pursed his lips, smacking them several times before recapping the tube and accepting the bottle rin had gotten him. he narrowed his eyes, plastic bags rustling as they hung precariously from his stiff wrists. he curled his fingers, mild tension radiating off him like heatwaves as he said, "you whined about my 'ugly, chapped lips' and how they 'ruined my handsome face', so i bought the chapstick to fix it—and if i bought it, then i'll use it. however i like."
"alright, calm down," rin yielded, raising his hands in a gesture to show that he hadn't meant any harm. "i was just saying. use it however you like, i guess. just—so how do your lips feel?"
haru schooled his expression, reverting to his regular, nonplussed self. he darted out the tip of his tongue to taste the glittery sheen on his lips. it tasted of menthol, and well, cherry. "cold," he replied tentatively, "and sweet. very sweet."
rin grimaced like he'd just witnessed a passerby take a shit on the street. "gross. we should've gone to another store and checked out if they had any other options instead of going with that one."
"it's not that bad."
"yeah, but you know how i feel about sweet stuff. kinda makes me gag, almost."
haru huffed, eyes rolling towards the darkening sky. "you're exaggerating," he said matter-of-factly, before repeating, "it's not that bad." when he noticed that rin's face was still contorted into somewhat of an unconvinced frown, he offered, for added measure: "taste it."
rin's eyes widened, slowly, like he couldn't believe what he'd heard. haru, quite frankly, didn't understand it. all he had suggested was for rin to reach into his palm, retrieve the little chapstick that had warmed in his fist and—
his thoughts were interrupted.. rather rudely, in fact, by the soft press of plush, hesitant lips; the gentle, almost velvety sensation of them fading even quicker than it had begun. and only then did haru realise that he had ceased breathing for a bit, taking in a lungful of air with owlish, unblinking eyes and a heart beating like the wings of a hummingbird. it was slowly but surely, like the slow bloom of flowers after a glacial winter, or the rising of the morning sun at dawn, occurring to haru what had just happened. and he wasn't sure if he liked it, because—
rin had—
did he just—
what the hell was rin—
"did you just," haru rumbled, gutturally, feeling a tether of his sanity snap and fray like a worn-out nylon rope, "kiss me?!"
and rin had the cheek, the absolute gall, to look scandalised, sputtering and fidgeting and vibrating like he hadn't been the one to just lay a thick one on haru's lips when all haru had meant was—
"i meant, to put the damn chapstick on and taste it for yourself."
"you didn't say that!" rin squeaked defensively, looking like he wanted the concrete to crack and split and swallow him up, only to spit him out on Planet fucking Mortificatio because that's exactly how he felt at this very second—embarrassed! mortified! like the world had presented him with the one option and he'd still managed to fuck it up, except the world (haru) had presented him with only one option, just unfortunately NOT the one rin had gone with. "you could've said literally a-anything else and i would've—but you—you said to taste it and i just—i thought maybe you meant—"
haru closed his eyes and took a deep, exasperated breath. he counted to three, would've counted to at least a thousand if he hadn't been able to regain his composure by then, but then he opened his eyes, recovering his bearings, and raised the clenched fist that was curled around the little chapstick tube, dropping it, unceremoniously, into rin's trembling, outstretched hand.
"taste it," he said again, gritting his teeth so hard he could foresee the imminent migraine. the vein at his temple twitched.
rin scrambled, fumbling as he quickly uncapped the tube like a toddler learning to open containers for the first time. he twisted the tube with shaky fingers and swiped the chapstick over his lips so nervously and haphazardly that he'd pretty much left a large, messy line of chapstick all over his lips, smeared beyond the outline of his mouth like some sort of bootleg joker. then he lowered his hand, looking at haru unsurely.
"how is it." haru deadpanned, no upwards inflection of any sort indicating it had been a question.
"i-it's—it's—" rin paused, rubbing his lips together like an old man that had forgotten his dentures. "...it's.. actually not that bad.." he sealed the tube and looked up, meeting haru dead in the eye. haru was staring at him so intensely he forced himself to lower his gaze in shame. "haru, i'm really sorry for misunderstanding you. like, it's.. i was so stupid for thinking that what you said meant anything but what you actually meant, and i just thought—"
but haru had mentally checked out of rin's sorry, self-deprecating rambling. he took a swig of his drink, turned on his heel and started trudging down the path towards their shared home, only vaguely paying mind to the sputtering that was gradually beginning to ease into silence. a dog in the distance barked as if to beckon him forward, and he resolved to begin stalking towards it, but when he noticed that rin hadn't moved, hadn't followed him like a small, apologetic puppy with its tail between its legs that didn't want to be reprimanded for tearing the couch apart, he paused in his step, turned his head over his shoulder, and said, "if we're going to be living together, you'd better get used to the taste of cherry." and then he continued walking as if he hadn't said a word at all.
and rin, who still felt like he needed the universe to cooperate and let concrete shapeshift into quicksand, widened his eyes again, this time because—huh? what did.. what did haru mean by that? was.. was living with him going to become awkward from here onwards? would rin... regret everything—rooming with haru and what not—because he'd made a foolish attempt at.. accidentally kissing haru? would haru make an attempt at his life for stealing his, what, kissing virginity? most importantly, what the hell did haru mean?!
but there was only one way to find out, and so he steeled himself, wiggled the fingers around the plastic bags that were wearing him down, and started walking.

Megs!! 💖 6 & 9 for AO3 Wrapped: Reader’s Edition!
When I decided it would be fun to do this, I immediately realized I have read SO many works this year, it is all a blur, but I will do my best!!! 💕
6. What's your absolute favorite works you read this year?
🔒 Collateral Damage by @danpuff-ao3
Draco Malfoy/Ron Weasley | E | 16k Fandom: Harry Potter
Yes, I realize you are the one that tagged me in this and asked the question, BUT I cannot discount the fact that this was one of my first 2022 reads and ABSOLUTELY one of my favs! I've reread this... I have no idea how many times at this point. It truly made me fall in love with Dron, and as many as I have read since then, I always come back to this one. It was so well written; you can tell you enjoyed every word!! 💕
an unsteady sun by @museaway
Nanase Haruka/Matsuoka Rin | M | 15k Fandom: Free!
I did a rewatch of Free! thanks to @makeitp1nk and re-fueled my love for RinHaru! 💕 Of course, that meant I needed to go searching for fic and stumbled upon this lovely amnesia fic! I'm planning to podfic it when I'm able! 😍 Thank you muse for being my intro to the Free! fandom, and I absolutely love it here! 🦈🐬
i'm just a guy whose intentions are good by @phenomenalasterisk for @hpcestfest
Harry Potter/James Sirius Potter | E | 9k Fandom: Harry Potter
So Phe doesn't write often. She's a fantastic Podficcer and the world's greatest cheerleader, but when they *do* write - damn. Just. Damn. I was SO in love with her characterization of James in this fic. Just a sweet chubby boy trying to ignore his crush on his dad, and then finding all the love he deserved in return. It was absolutely "wholesome incest" and I loved it so much. I'm so glad you were able to finish it!
9. Favorite rare pair you read works for this year?
Insert airhorn noises here 📢📢📢📢📢📢📢
🐍S N A M E S🦁 (Severus Snape/James Potter)
Good god, I could go on for days regarding my love for this pairing. From the very beginning of my entry to HP fandom I adored Snarry. I was definitely one of those Snape fans with a grudge against the Marauders, but as my multi-shipping grew, my love for James Potter blossomed into a burning adoration that I cannot get enough of.
I can thank GoldenEmpire's The Friend of a Friend for introducing me to this pairing and convincing me of soft, redeemable James. It has since been removed from AO3, which breaks my heart, so I'm thankful I had it downloaded as I reread it CONSTANTLY.
I'll supply my next favorite fic as a recommendation, because, holy shit, this is the wildest of rollercoasters that makes you feel ALL of the feelings in one story... from anger to hope to despair, to anguish and optimism and that ultimate happy ending. I had to take some breaks when the road got rough, but it was so worth the journey!!
Revenge is Sweet by BlueHorizon6 (FFN | AO3)

Pairing you wrote the most for this year?
I thiiiiink it has to be Rin/Haru? They've occupied my brain the most and Free! finally made my top-5 fandoms on AO3. But Aster/Dante from Nu: Carnival is on their heels. I'm working on #3 right now.
Favorite work you wrote this year?
Honestly, it might be The Jellyfish Song (Clear/Aoba, DMMd). I have 0 bad feelings about it. Working on that put me in the most floaty, happy headspace! I still listen to its playlist a lot.

The Break
by KazeN0_Kotoba
Pairing: Rinharu
Tags: Rin Matsuoka, Haruka Nanase, Makoto Tachibana, Domestic Fluff, Warm and Fuzzy Feelings, Jealous Matsuoka Rin, Mild Language, Cat Cafés
Summary:
The phone pinged, the clock ticked, the furin chimed and Haruka woke up.
The medley that would set Iwatobi and Samezuka's teams against each other was only two weeks away; yet, Rin shoulders heaved and dropped softly right in front of him, on his damp couch. None of their friends would have believed it if Haruka and Rin had told them they were going to skip morning training only to be together...

I’m apparently incapable of doing anything non Free-related right now, so have an angsty FSp1 mini-fic based on a post from @partrin earlier 🦈
He lays curled on the bed as Makoto’s concerned voice chimes from the nightstand where his voicemail is running. Even if he wanted to turn over and answer, he couldn’t; he couldn’t take the hopeful, innocent looks smiling up at him from tiny faces across the room where his old relay photograph was serenely displayed. The second his eyes had caught on it he’d tossed away, staring into the wall instead in disgust.
How had things ended up this way?
It’s far from the first time Rin had fought with Haruka. Hell, it was their entire routine - anything from dinner choices to college choices, the results of a world-class race or a race to the end of the block, if they didn’t have at least one squabble between the them then the day wouldn’t be complete.
But this... this felt totally different.
This was the first time Haru had ever been the one to start a serious fight. He’s fought back, sure, sometimes Rin was still haunted by the unadulterated rage he’d seen in those dead eyes that day in the locker room at regionals. But every time without fail, it had been Rin who antagonized, who looked for that anger and dragged it out of Haru, sometimes even intentionally. It had never been brought to him uninvited before.
He’d had to go as far as Australia to atone for his fuck-up last time. This time, he worried there wouldn’t be any coming back.
He’s said the wrong thing so many times in his life, snapped at people he cared for and lashed out when all he really wanted was to pull them closer. As he curls in tighter on himself, he feels totally empty thinking that perhaps this was even worse - not fighting back, not even deigning to give him the energy of a true fight, nothing but a callous declaration that he no longer cared.
"There’s no way it doesn’t matter to me... Idiot.”
It’s quiet, clipped, hissed under his breath in the empty room. A breath that hitches at the end, threatening to flood the desert of his somber apathy with the full force of tumultuous emotions dammed up behind it.
He isn’t at fault, really. He had only been there to tell Haru his decision, had been almost excited to up until he sensed something was off. It was Haru’s unexpected childish reaction, his cutting words so out of character he hadn’t known how to react, that caused the damage in the end.
And yet...
The claws digging in around his heart were undeniably guilt. After all, nothing Haru had said was really a lie, was it? That is what Rin does - pull everyone in just to leave them, over and over again. Even now, he’d listened to Haru clearly hurting, clearly alone, and rather than reassure him he wasn’t being abandoned, he’d let his anger get the best of him and ran away yet again.
He wasn’t blameless in this twisted game they’d been playing far too many years for people this young.
The cork holding in those bottled-up feelings was nearing its limit, and his hands were starting to hurt from where they were clenched so tightly in the sheets. He can’t keep doing this anymore. He needs Haru just as much as Haru needs him, and he can’t just rely on Haru always being the one swooping in to save him. He needs to be there for him too, able to own up to his mistakes and be the strength and comfort that Haru needs even when he’s pushing him away, the same as Haru had done for him when he first returned.
With a surge of remorseful energy he whips back over and snatches his phone off the nightstand, punching in Haru’s number before he can think better of it. The ringing feels as though it lasts an eternity as he waits on baited breath.
It hits a disconnect tone.
He tries again. Haru had only recently started putting effort into using his phone after all, maybe he missed the call. Maybe he was already asleep. Maybe he wasn’t purposefully ignoring Rin, cutting him out before he could leave the way he always does.
Please. Please pick up.
It’s not until the third attempt that the first tear finally falls, shattering the wall holding them back and leaving Rin only dimly aware that he’s sobbing into his knees where he’s doubled over on himself at the edge of the bed. His phone clatters as it slips out of his hand, fingers burying into his bangs instead while a year's worth of feelings rain out onto Rin’s lap with no sign of stopping.
He’s doubtful he’ll ever hear that number answer again.

It always takes longer than I want to, but now it's online: here is my next Rinharu fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/52004146
I hope you like it! I have so many ideas and so little time, and in the end it is far more difficult to put the ideas into words as I initially thought...
