Bucky checks his texts. There’s a quick hey from Nat, but nothing from Steve. He hasn’t heard anything from him in 36 hours.

Again Bucky’s frustration mounts. He feels like he’s caught up in some dangerous rich guy bullshit, and there are no clues at all except some random page numbers in a classic Russian novel.

It’s all too ridiculous.

But he has to admit that he’s worried about Steve. As much as he’d like to just gracefully ghost him, like so many of his other one-night stands, he realizes he can’t do that. Whatever intrigue Steve is involved in somehow, Bucky is now involved in it as well.

And, Bucky forces himself to admit, he’s much more…taken…with Steve than he has been with any of his previous hookups, whether here in New York or around the world on his work trips. It wasn’t just the sex — although the other night and the following morning were right up there among the best fucks of Bucky’s life — but there was something else, some spark that had lit up between them and refused to die.

“Okay, Bekah, ow! Slow down! What the hell?” Darcy rubbed at her arm, still able to feel Bekah’s fingers digging into her skin. She watched Bekah move around the kitchen, swirling on her socked heels. Bekah poured herself a double shot of vodka, slammed it back, then threw her arms around Darcy, who oofed at the contact. Bekah was sturdy and packed a wallop, and Darcy was seriously confused by what was happening.

“I am going to have a whole ass emotion all over you,” Bekah said, not moving from where she was squeezing Darcy, “I am so god-damned happy for all three of you.”

She didn’t move from where she was squeezing Darcy, her voice serious. She sounds so serious. Darcy blinked, feeling the fierceness in Bekah’s grip, as well as the heft in her tone. “What? But downstairs -”

“I don’t want to hear about my brother’s sex life, okay? Or Steve’s, for that matter. I see how you all look at each other. I’ve seen Steve and Jimmy for years, and they look at you the way they look at each other. Whatever happened? I’m glad it’s settled.” Bekah’s voice was muffled against Darcy’s shoulder and hair, but it was warm and sincere. She pulled back and held Darcy by the shoulders. “All of you, just be fucking happy.”

This was not the way she’d expected this conversation to go, but Darcy smiled at Bekah regardless. She needed to stop assuming she knew how her friends were going to react to things, because they always seemed to surprise her. “It’s still new,” Darcy said, reaching out toward the bottle of vodka, not worrying about a glass. “Very new. A couple of days, actually. I’m still a little uncertain how it’s all going to work. It’s not really a conventional situation. But… yeah.”

Bekah grinned when Darcy took a long drink, her face screwing up at the taste as she swallowed. “Ma is going to be thrilled.”

Darcy knew that Bekah was talking about both Winifred and Sarah, and her eyes widened slightly with panic as she put the bottle back on the counter, the glass loud on the marble. “Oh, god, Bekah, not yet. Please. Please.”

When the billionaire Dom, Antony Stark, stops by to harass Peter Parker, her latest hire, she forms hate towards the man. “You’re ridiculous,” Steve said with a laugh, holding up the shirt that Clint had gotten him for Christmas. It was grey with light blue writing across the front that read Art: Just Another Get-Poor-Quick Scheme. He shook his head, uncertain how Clint seemed to know exactly what to get for everyone. It wasn’t the Power, but his own brand of magical abilities.

“We just happen to make cool shit in Iowa,” Clint said with a large smile. He was currently wearing his Yo, I’m from Iowa, Bitch shirt under an olive jacket. Sam had already pulled his tee over his head and posted a selfie to Instagram, pointing to the words on the front. Someone in Iowa Loves Me

Adding his shirt that read If you want to be my lover, you gotta respect me emotionally, physically, and understand the concept of equal partnership to the other pile of gifts from Sam and Clint, Bucky shoved a curly french fry into his mouth, smiling. “Counterpoint: you come from there.”

Clint’s eyes narrowed in Bucky’s direction. “See if I ever invite you to the middle of nowhere now, buddy.”

Smiling, Sam sat back, his arm stretching across the back of the booth they were seated in, stretching across Clint’s shoulders. “So how’d it go? Did the Ma’s love their gift?”

“There were tears,” Steve said with a nod, snagging one of Bucky’s fries. “I thought the matching outfits were a little heavy handed, but it worked.”

Sam shrugged his shoulders, a knowing expression climbing to his face. “I told you it would. Moms love matching outfits.”

Bucky leaned on the table, an easy grin on his face as he nodded at Sam. “And yours? How was Christmas at the Wilson house?”

“I gained fifteen pounds of pure fat.”

Feigning a grimace, Bucky gave Sam a solemn nod. “I noticed your ass looked a bit bigger, but I didn’t want to say anything.”

“Fuck you, Barnes.”
