It's sad that they both could have run away to America and lived happily ever after, but there is something so awesome and really about having a story where characters acknowledge that romantic love is not the most important thing.

i really want to hate gu dong mae for being loyal to the main lead til the end but i can't so i'll hate the writers instead. second leads deserve better.

i know this story will be cruel to everyone and each ending will be sad. i accepted that dong mae will die but i hate that he still thought of aeshin and not yanghwa in his last moments. i didn't even hoped that they will live happily ever after, i just wanted dongmae to let go of aeshin even in the end. letting go of his self-destructive passion for aeshin could be the final development for his character. letting that passion go and embracing what has always been there for him isn't so bad. lee yang hwa has always been there for him.

my girl lee yang hwa deserved better too. i love gu dong mae but i could really hate him for her. forget about my love for gu dong mae. i ended up falling for hina kudo lee yang hwa in the end. yang hwa has been strong and independent all throughout despite being lonely and having a shit life. no one in the drama deserve her, not even dong mae.

i understand dong mae's passion for aeshin. i rooted for that passion too for a while because it saved him and made him hope and live but i really think his relationship with yanghwa is strong enough that it overshadows what he had for aeshin.

dongmae and yanghwa's relationship is founded by years of trust, respect, and understanding. dong mae only ever lets his guard down when he's with yanghwa. hina kudo's real name was only known by dong mae. they always got each other's back.

i think theirs was the purest form of love in the drama. i was fine with it being platonic at first, perhaps a love that strong doesn't need to be romantic but their gazes at each other tells something.

my heart broke when yanghwa confessed her feelings to dong mae in her last moments. when she said "but aeshin is the only one he loves and he's crazy for that love" damn i really hated dong mae in this moment. queen hina kudo lee yang hwa deserved so much better.

when dong mae died i was hoping he'll think of yanghwa in the end. he had much more meaningful scenes with her. all that aeshin did for him was save him, and thank him briefly. she didn't even knew how much dong mae loves her.

dong mae knew in the end that he left a mark on aeshin's life and for him that's enough but damn he dedicated his life for her and his feelings didn't even get acknowledged by aeshin. it's not aeshin's fault i know.

that's why i hate dong mae for having no self-respect and being loyal to someone who didn't even appreciate him enough. it's admirable how much he's passionate to aeshin but then there's lee yang hwa always by his side who waited for him. they're not main leads and maybe that's why it wasn't emphasized but when yanghwa said she waited for dongmae in the streets, in his room, everywhere, i realized it hurt more for her than aeshin in that 3-year timeskip because she didn't even know if dongmae was alive.

aeshin is a great girl, it's understandable that 3 great guys fall head over heels for her but making those guys unable to let go of their feelings for her feels like they were created just to prove a point [how great aeshin is] and not because they are great characters on their own, capable of character development.

in the end, dongmae and huiseong felt like accessory characters. second leads can stay as second leads and i'm not a writer myself but as an audience, i feel like they'll be more well-rounded if they are capable of making a change of heart.
