Soulsborne Final Bosses poorly explained
Dark Souls: God is senile, forcibly retire him.
Dark Souls 2: Lich King Cersei Lannister tricked you into doing her dirty work or Treebeard with the One Ring beats your ass.
Dark Souls 3: Parry all you want, you can’t parry the feels.
Sekiro: Swordsman hatches from grandson, shoots you in face.
Bloodborne: Local paraplegic regains use of legs specifically to kick your ass. Failing that, the moon does it for him.
Elden Ring: Kill God’s malesona and pet amoeba.

Dark Souls and Legacy of Kain are the same story!
While finishing Dark Souls II, I realised how similar it seemed to another dark fantasy series I loved. Not just in setting (a crumbling world way past its prime) but also in its themes.
Obvious Spoiler Warning for both properties!
Dark Souls is - at its heart - the story about a never-ending cycle. You link the fire just for it to begin fading again. The end always presents us with an ultimatum. Link the fire, or let it fade.
This is quite similar to the ultimatum in Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen.
You spend the game killing the corrupted guardians of the pillars of Nosgoth (each pillar representing a different concept like mind, time, death and most importantly balance) so that a new set of guardians, untainted by madness, can be born.
At the end, it is revealed that the protagonist Kain himself, was also a guardian. He belonged to the pillar of balance. Now he is faced with the choice of sacrificing himself, so that the pillars can heal, or refuse his fate and rule as a king over a diying world.
In both stories we have the ultimatum of self-sacrifise for a healed world, or ruling over its corpse.
This parallel was especially clear in Dark Souls II, with the character of Aldia. He searched for a way to break the cycle. A different solution than the linking, or fading of the fire. Throughout the game, he is the one who talks to us about seeking a third option.
In Soul Reaver II, we learn of Kain's plot to defy fate and be free of his ultimatum. To achieve his goal, Kain uses the time traveling machine of the former guardian of the pillar of time. In the past -specifically the year of his birth- Kain has a run in with his former right-hand turned enemy Raziel. It is the last bit of that dialouge, which made the comparisson between the two games clear as day to me.
"You said it yourself Kain… There are only two sides to your coin."
"Apparently so.  But suppose you throw a coin enough times... suppose one day, it lands on its edge."
Aldia has spent his life searching for that edge!
Bonus:
These two quotes are also extremely similar in nature:
Legacy of Kain:
Given the choice, whether to rule a corrupt and failing empire; or to challenge the fates for another throw - a better throw - against one's destiny... what was a king to do?"
Dark Souls II:
"Young Hollow, there are but two paths. Inherrit the order of this world or destroy it. But only a true monarch can make such a choice."

My buddy Stygianblack commented last year on my Aldia piece and I had to illustrate it. They told me to draw the Alva set.

18, fandom of choice
18. It's absolutely criminal the fandom is sleeping on-
I was gonna say the Forlorn but there's very little there to sleep on. you'd roll off
So instead: the Healers Sealers of New Londo. Sorcerers of tremendous power, beyond anything we wield or even see in game. They began as healers, and ended up with the political backing of Anor Londo to go kill its colony, which bears its name. They were supposed to stay there to maintain the seal, but only one of the three did.
One fled and died trying to heal another failing city, and one is lost entirely.
Fertile ground for OCs and fic, and yet the only one I've ever seen is the one I'm writing? Missed opportunity. DS1 has been out for over a decade.

*bf standing in complete darkness with gf who asked him to link the fire*
babe look it’s actually the same thing if you think about it. no, babe, like yeah it’s dark. but babe it’s an illusory choice. it’s a cycle, and like fire and dark form it together. so it’s basically what you wanted. babe, no, listen there’s this guy called aldia, he like 100% proved it,

Finally finished the #SixFanarts challenge! I thought this would take me a week for each character but it ended up taking 3 months. 😭 I'll post more high-res images of these soon. I, of course, had to draw the tiny version of Aldia, Scholar of the First Sin. The request for the Loathsome Dung Eater was to draw, "The Well-Regarded Poopoo Man." The result was the Dung Eater turning over a new leaf to become a used steed salesman.
