you said something about H'aanit x Alfyn in one of your earlier tags, which is a ship I've never seen before so now I'm curious. Go ahead and do that ship for the ship ask game you reblogged, and if you wanna talk about it a bit, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts

So. H’aanit x Alfyn, otherwise named “Hunter x Gatherer” by me. At first it was a silly pun on their character classes.

But then I really thought about it. And I realized they’re very compatible! They’re both from a rural background. They both know about how to keep the balance of nature, and respect the land in their own ways. They recognize each other’s abilities. And they also each recognize the importance of the people they look up to (H’aanit recognizing how important Crossford is to Alfyn and in turn, Alfyn recognizing why H’aanit looks up to Z’aanta.) I think them having a future together would make sense and I’m quite interested to see where that would go!

Me, with my Octopath Traveler x Triangle Strategy Crossover: Cyrus drags Therion, Alfyn, and Tressa on his delegation trip and then all four of them get caught up in politics. The other 4 Travelers need to go after them so that they won't die.

Bruh that just sound like canon octopath. I firmly believe Olberic and H'aanit's main job within the group is making sure Cyrus, Alfyn, Tressa and Theron don't die

See I went the other way. I made it lighter and softer. -slaps my cotc game- this game can fit so much fluff because I want it to. I took one look at Auguste and went “Him and Gilderoy are gonna get together and he’s gonna be redeemed and no one will stop me” and I’m now saving the 30k rubies to guarantee full awakening for when he’s released. I have so many hcs and expansive backgrounds for so many travelers and it’s fun sitting around creating a found family.

And yeah the og 8 traveler stories.... some are. :/ Alfyn said in the og game he’s never been further than Saintsbridge. Tressa has never left town. And then making Erhardt spend 8 years in the desert... when in the main game he was said to wander, and his old friends are everywhere....

I know the creators said it’s canon, but for me, CotC is a spin-off that I pick and choose things from. It’s the only way I can reconcile it with the og game, because the contradictions and retcons are kinda ridiculous.

We're definitely different in this case then! :o I like fluffy things, but I love angst more. >:D I love picking out the implied dark things then making it like 110% times worse! Even in the more lighthearted first game. Olberic and Ophilia are my favourites and I love the potential their stories have for it all.

Like I said, I think more about the Story Characters (I'd say "NPCs", but they ain't that anymore) less of the Travelers, so the dark stuff is more easier to come up with. (Oskha, Bargello, or Wealth in general, I love it all and its disturbing potential!!)

I can't judge the shipping of Gilderoy and Auguste because I ship Sofiano (Tiziano X Sofia). I say go for it! (...Are you the "Gilderoy fan" that Mini has told me about...?? If so, hello! It's nice to know who is being spoken about.)

In my future "canon" version of the game's plot, the main character is Shelby, my playthrough is simply just that, my own playthrough for my enjoyment. In the end, the collaboration with my brother's team is the canon we go with. Though his team is also barely involved either. It's complicated to explain, but one day I hope to write this story!

On the topic of Brigades/Main Teams, mine would be considered a "family" as well. I talked about that kind of thing in this post here if you were curious! May I ask you what your Main Team is? All I know is Gilderoy right now! I'd like to know about your team if you are willing to share.

Here's my team in one of my favourite Photo Spots; the 2021 Harvest Moon.

Wrath has actually implied he's traveled around. He was in the Highlands for his Recollection and je was in Sufratarja for his Traveler Story because it's a closer location to Wellspring, and it allows his story to naturally transition into the first game's plot. Mostly every first game character story does this. Meaning he had traveled to the Sunlands and stopped in Sufratarja, then after his Traveler Story he comes across the events given to us in the first game. He's only been in Sunlands/Wellspring for two years, not eight. Two years is more reasonable as it's long enough to be considered a "hero" of Wellspring, and kinda makes more sense since the town seems to barely know who he is aside from that he helps protect the town. Keeping yourself hidden for two years is easier than eight.

But anyway, in my opinion, I'd take most stories as canon with the exception of the Main 8, they chose to write their stories "grand" because they were main characters once. However, this game they aren't the main characters, and that should be understood by fans and by the creators! From what I know of all the Main 8 Stories (So far we've read through H'aanit, Cyrus, and Primrose, but I've played Tressa's), the only one that kinda seems okay in a canon sense is Cyrus' Traveler Story. Primrose's was very close to being okay, until she left Sunshade to go to the Finesand Ruins. There's also very missed potential in her story with getting Yusufa involved. H'aanit's technically fine as well, but it's just weird that they imply she's so "useless" when she's like 23 years old and I am sure she's an excellent hunter.

But yes, Alfyn going to the Highlands and Coastlands didn't happen at all. Tressa travelling from the Coastlands to Flatlands to Coastlands to Highlands to Sunlands, back to the Coastlands didn't happen, and especially not within one afternoon. :/

This might just be me, but I can't stand when they write stories with the characters making it sound like the continent is so easy to walk through and towns are so near each other. It sounds like gameplay being put into it. I want to imagine it takes an appropriate while to travel from town to town on foot, because thinking about the team having a campfire and all that stuff on the way is kinda nice. :) See, I told you I like some lighthearted things!!

-H’aanit probably has a few concoction recipes in mind and shares them with Alfyn. They bounce ideas off each other real well

-H’aanit has such a calming presence, it’s a nice change of pace to be around her

-Alfyn being genuinely interested in her village and its traditions, maybe she even begins to teach him how to hunt if he wished to

-Alfyn loves Linde, everyone does

-H’aanit is pragmatic and down-to-earth, and so she warns Alfyn about being too kind and risking being taken advantage of. He’ll respectfully hear her out but it doesn’t change his way of doing things.

Cyrus: I suppose I’m said to still struggle when it comes to the matter of the hearts of other ladies.

Tressa: Something I struggle with? Hmm... I guess even right now, I still need improvements in business.

H’aanit: Still I findeth it difficult to casually communicate with others.

Olberic: I suppose part of me still has to come to terms with what has happened in the past.

Primrose: Honestly same here. Sometimes I just wonder about things in the past, you know?

Primrose: And I think Therion does too; he still needs some time when it comes to... well... the things that happened to him.

Alfyn: I guess something I struggle with is judgement; not that I’m a biased person, but I’m still sometimes struggling to decide what’s better or worse.

Therion wouldn’t call himself an actor, really. He can’t star in some dumb play put on for the nobles of some dumb town. But being a thief kinda forces him to have, well, certain skills. It’s rather hard to steal from right under people’s noses if they thought him suspicious. He doesn’t fully get rid of his personality, of course, because he would probably die if he couldn’t make sarcastic comments under his breath. But he does pick up different mannerisms, and watches what he says all the time. It also helps him recognize the signs of other thieves, so there’s that.

Now, Therion definitely wouldn’t call himself a people person either. When he met H’aanit in the S’warkii forest, he wanted to turn right around and walk down to the Sunlands instead. H’aanit, being the kindest yet toughest person Therion’s ever met however, she insisted on helping him get rid of the Bandit’s Bangle. Another thing about H’aanit: she managed to weasel that out of him like 3 days after he swore to himself he would never show anyone. So yeah, it’s safe to say that Therion actually really likes H’aanit.

What he doesn’t like about her is the fact that she somehow managed to get two other people to join their little group. Primrose is nice, Therion muses, but Alfyn just grates on his nerves. Constantly going on about saving people, and how he wanted to be an Apothecary since he was little, blah blah blah. Honestly, by the time they got to the North Atlasdam Flats Therion was ready to throw Alfyn into the ocean.

Play nice, H’aanit mutters to him, walking next to him as they stroll into Atlasdam. Easy for you to say, Therion grumbles back. You don’t have to listen to this moron jabber on about herbs. H’aanit simply ignores him, much to his annoyance.

“May I ask why we are here?” Primrose’s deep voice drifts towards them, and Therion glances back at where she’s walking with Alfyn. “Do either of you have business here?”

H’aanit smiles at her, and steps back to explain that we’re staying hither for the night.

Therion scoffs lightly. If H’aanit didn’t scare him slightly, he would've been teasing her for liking Primrose. Whatever, at least this gave him an opportunity to slip from his party. He heard some villagers talking about the city library, maybe he could nab some nice coin from the distracted scholars.

He walks down the stone path, adopting a slow, lazy stroll. I’m just a tourist! Don’t mind me, he thinks, smiling and waving at a guard. The man smiles and waves back, not noticing his belt got a little lighter as Therion swiped his coin purse. Whistling, Therion walks on, looking to the world like a man on a pleasant walk.

He stops at a small square, looking every which way, as if lost. He kinda is, but the exaggeration could attract someone to help him. Which, honestly, would be the perfect person to steal from. A nice, naïve citizen who helps lost tourists.

To his right is a set of large stone stairs, leading up to a grand stone building. It looks elegant and polished, like a school or something. In front of him, another grand building. The flags and extra guards however, screams palace, and just the thought makes Therion shudder and fiddle with his Bangle, before crossing his arms tightly. To the left, down some steps isa smaller yet no less grand building, with a guard stationed at the door. But when the door swings open, he glimpses a large shelf with a seemingly endless amount of books. There then.

“Did you need some help?” Before Therion can take a step, a man’s voice coming from the direction of the palace stops him. He turns in spot, and can’t wait to see what dumb citizen decided to help him. But then he stands, rooted to the spot. A tall, thin man stands a couple feet away from him, wearing a long, expensive-looking black cloak with gold detailing, a dark purple vest with more gold detailing over a poofy white shirt, and a short little ponytail holding back long hair. Point is, Therion is star-struck.

“Hello?” The man says, stepping closer. That’s enough for Therion to jolt back into reality, and he blinks at the man in front of him. Yep, still hot. 

“O-oh, I’m fine. I was just looking for the library?” It comes out as a question, and Therion curses himself for losing his composure so easily. “I think I’ve found it though. The one over there, right?” He removes his arm from where it was crossed under his poncho, and points over to the left of the square. The gorgeous man smiles and nods.

“Why yes, yes it is! Sharp of you to notice! In fact, I was just heading there myself, I’ll walk with you!” And then Therion found himself walking with the man, who seemingly talks forever. Therion learned that he is a scholar, that he teaches some young girls at the palace, and all about his favorite books and book genres. Therion smiles and nods when it feels appropriate, and manages to slip the man’s coin purse off of him. Sadly, the walk is rather short, and before Therion really gets to say anything, the man is saying goodbye.

“I do apologize, but I have to check in on some of my favorite people, and make sure things are running smoothly. Have a nice day!” Therion stands in the entrance to the library, simply watching the man walk away. Huh, he thinks, looking down at the coin purse, as a light blush brushes his cheeks. That’s new.
