Alexandrine de Prusse (1915-1980)

Comme a pu l’indiquer la saison 4 de The Crown, les personnes royales et souffrant d’un handicap mental ont tendance à être cachées par leurs familles, par honte, par tabous, par habitude. Mais pas toutes : Alexandrine de Prusse, elle, est restée aux côtés de ses parents malgré sa trisomie 21.

Alexandrine de Prusse ou celle dont les parents ont été résolument modernes dans leur manière de penser !

Alors laissez-moi désormais vous parler de la princesse Alexandrine de Prusse !

Alexandrine Irène de Prusse est née le 07 avril 1915 à Berlin. Elle est le cinquième enfant et surtout la première fille de Guillaume de Prusse (1882-1951), le fils aîné du dernier empereur de Prusse, et de son épouse Cécilie de Mecklembourg-Schwerin (1886-1954), la fille de l’avant-dernier grand-duc de Mecklembourg-Schwerin.

Elle sera surnommée « Adini » par sa famille.

De part sa grand-mère maternelle, Anastasia Mikhaïlovna de Russie (1860-1922), elle est une descendante directe de Catherine II, impératrice de Russie.

De part son père, elle descend de la reine Victoria.

Une lignée prestigieuse, en somme !

On est donc en droit de s’attendre à ce que la jeune princesse ait droit à un mariage royal, à un époux prestigieux… mais très vite après sa naissance, on réalise que l’enfant est atteinte de trisomie 21.

Sa mère, Cécile, est bouleversée et la condition de sa fille, comme l’exige l’étiquette, n’est pas révélée.

Pour rappel, la trisomie 21 est une maladie génétique qui touche toute la personne. Elle résulte d’une anomalie chromosomique : normalement, l’être humain possède 46 chromosomes organisés en 23 paires. Dans la trisomie 21, le chromosome 21 est en trois exemplaires au lieu de deux, portant le nombre total de chromosomes à 47. (Cf le site de la fondation Jérôme Lejeune).

Le handicap d’Alexandrine la retire donc immédiatement du marché conjugal.

Il aurait été attendu de ses parents qu’ils l’envoient dans un centre, comme cela se faisait très souvent, ou alors que l’existence de leur fille soit cachée.

Guillaume et Cécile vont à contre-courant et leur fille reste à leurs côtés.

Alexandrine, malgré son handicap, va à l’école ! Elle étudie à la Trüpersche Sonderschule, le premier établissement d'enseignement en Europe dédié à la formation académique et artistique des enfants atteints de handicaps cognitifs et physiques. La jeune fille est soignée par une infirmière : Selma Boese.

Elle assiste à des événements mondains, comme le mariage de son cousin : le futur Frederick XI de Danemark (1899-1972), en 1935.

En 1936, la princesse s’installe à Niederpöcking, l’un des quartiers de Pöcking. Le plus célèbre quartier de cette ville est sans doute Possenhofen, paysage d’enfance de Sissi ! Alexandrine restera à Niederpöcking pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale.

On pourrait s’attendre à ce qu’Alexandrine mène une vie triste et solitaire… Il n’en est rien ! En 1945, elle emménage dans ce qui sera sa dernière maison : une demeure sur les bords du lac de Stanberg, où elle s’adonnera à ce qui la fait le plus vibrer : l’art et la nature !

Alexandrine adore les randonnées ! Elle se plonge aussi dans la musique et la peinture, elle qui a un penchant pour l’expressionnisme allemand, ce que nous précise sa mère dans les mémoires qu’elle rédige en 1952.

Enfin, la princesse reçoit très régulièrement des visites, notamment celles de son frère Louis-Ferdinand (1907-1994).

D’ailleurs, tous ses adelphes se marieront et auront des enfants. Aujourd’hui encore, des petits-neveux et petites-nièces d’Alexandrine vivent : par exemple Antonia de Prusse (née en 1955) est la nièce de Frédéric, le frère d’Alexandrine. Antonia a eu cinq enfants (dont Mary Wellesley, autrice, et Charlotte Santo Domingo) et cinq petits-enfants. Nous pouvons compter aussi Georges-Frédéric de Prusse (1976), l’actuel prétendant au trône de Prusse, le petit-fils de Louis-Ferdinand.

La santé d’Alexandrine décline au début des années 1950, de sorte qu’elle n’assiste plus aux événements. Elle ne sera pas présente non plus aux funérailles de son père, décédé le 20 juillet 1951, à l’âge de 69 ans, d’une crise cardiaque, trois jours avant le décès de son ennemi durant la bataille de Verdun : le Maréchal Philippe Pétain (1856-1951)

Alexandrine mène une vie paisible, routinière, avant de s’éteindre le 02 octobre 1980 à l’âge de 65 ans.

Elle enterre ses deux parents ainsi que l’intégralité de sa fratrie.

Alexandrine est méconnue du grand public et est pourtant, à l’instar d’Anne de Gaulle, la preuve que même jadis, on ne cachait pas toujours les personnes dites différentes.

A CATASTROPHIC KEY WEST HAPPENING

A catastrophic event has occurred. Smoking no longer permitted in Berlin’s.

New owners. The no smoking rule invoked. Surprising because one of the primary new owners a smoker himself.

Please, do not bury me in e-mails about the evils of smoking. Some remain who enjoy it. A personal choice. I do not criticize those who opt not to smoke.

If second hand smoke is a problem, do not attend a place that permits smoking. Only a few are left in Key West. Many non-smoking restaurants and bars available for the multitude.

Lets me share the Berlin story with you.

Berlin’s full name is Berlin’s Cigar and Cocktail Bar. It has been a place frequented by smokers since 1947 when it was first opened as Alonzo Cothron and Berlin Felton’s Fish House.

Eventually, the name was changed to Alonzo’s and Berlin’s Lobster House. The dining institution of the day. The place for a night out followed by a Cuban cigar. The affluent then hopping a plane for a quick flight to Havana for a night of gambling. Returning in time to bed down while still dark outside.

Those must have been the days!

At some point, the establishment was rebuilt. Always a perfect waterfront site. Class before and class after the rebuilding.

Berlin’s had a cool look to it. The feeling of Rick’s cafe. Some consider the swankiest spot in Key West.

Paul Tripp was owner at the time of rebuilding. He said, “I wanted it to be a men’s club, to have a masculine feel to it.”

It did.

An intimate room. Mahogany walls. Maroon leather bound stools and large comfortable easy chairs. Cigars stored in a humidor. The perfect place to sit back and enjoy a smoke.

The present day Berlin’s has the finest filtration system I have ever experienced. Even if the person next to you was smoking a cigar, you never smelled it. The filtration system sucked up the smoke  immediately. After leaving, your clothes did not smell of smoke.

Smokers generally ate in the intimacy of Berlin’s. A&B Lobster House, the restaurant portion is extremely large with a huge outdoor balcony to accommodate everyone else.

The food at the bar and restaurant the same. Always excellent. Pricey. Worth it, however. Especially when I could enjoy a couple of drinks and cigarettes before dinner and another after dinner while enjoying the last drink of the night.

The change makes no sense. It will not increase business. It might lessen it, if anything.

The Chart Room my only stop last night. John bartending. Ran into Diesel last year. Again, last night. We spoke at length. I enjoyed his company.

Diesel is from Ohio. Retired. He and his wife Lynise bought a home in Key West several years ago. Lynise was not with him. An early to bed person as I am most evenings.

They spend 6 months a year on the island. I told Diesel he was a snowbird. He did not like the title. Preferred to be known as a transient Conch. Don’t think it would fly with the Conchs.

Cori Convertino, how I envy you! Cori was on Ballast Key yesterday!

Cori is technically Dr. Cori Convertino. She is curator at the Custom House. Over the years, she became a close friend of David Wolkowsky. David you will recall died 2 month ago.

David enjoyed 3 homes in the Key West area. One was on Ballast Key. A small island 16 miles west of Key West. A magnificent edifice planned and built by David.

Not sure why Cori was there yesterday. Wish she had invited me. I assume she was there for some reason having to do with the furnishings. David was a huge benefactor to the Custom House.

I met Fritz Adare 12 years ago at a party at Larry and Christine Smith’s home. Nice guy. He was introduced as a personal trainer. Looked it. A magnificent body. Skin like a baby’s back end. A body that sparkled.

It was obvious Fritz was a good health addict.

I rarely saw him. We would run into each other one or two times a year. Always a cordial hello and a few words.

Yesterday’s Facebook listed the day as Fritz’s birthday. I sent him a Happy Birthday!

Last night, Larry and Christine telephoned me. I knew there had to be trouble if both were on the phone together. Fritz had died several months ago. I did not know.

Strange. I never saw his obituary. Looked for it this morning. Not in the Key West Citizen. Found it in a South Bend, Indiana newspaper. Fritz died on May 29. He was residing in an assisted living facility at the time. Age, 71.

May he rest in peace.

When older people who I know pass on, I get a bit nervous. I am 83. Fritz was 71. He unquestionably was a health nut. Always working out. Took all kinds of vitamins and supplement pills. Nutrition was a big thing with him.

I do not dwell on death. Mark Twain said, “Age is not an issue of mind. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.

What will be, will be.

An important thing in life. After saturday’s victory, Syracuse is now ranked 14th in the nation. A 7-2 record so far. Go ‘Cuse!

Week 15 - November 29th - Hocks- Visual Rhetoric in digital writing environments

Hybridity of images and test and juxtapositiong all of them

This week Hocks provided us with an explanation of a framework that can help us read 'the multiple media of texts,'-websites by applying the general concepts of “hybridization”and “juxtaposition” to make sense of visual-verbal compositions. She used the two key terms for describing visual -verbal composition, explaining them through her reading of Anne Wysocki and Christine Boese but the problem is that she gives broad information instead of detailed specific understanding of word-image or media-to-media relations. From the reading I can begin to understand a way to make general sense of the complexity of Web texts.

The hybridity of the Web interface allows Boese to swap different kinds of media—texts, pictures, sounds, links, data sources, and citations in and out of the various sections of the screen and pop-up windows. She juxtaposes textual explanations with purely visual arguments.” An example of her explanation is the website below, which has many tabs, virtual tour of the campus, text and images all in one page. The user has to move from one page to the next.

It reminded me of Bolter and Grusin remediation of media where they discussed hyper-immediacy stating that it is the promotion of the medium that is delivering the stimuli and it promotes opacity. Hypermediacy is comprised of a combination of images and sounds and text and video in order to construct multiple representations within a heterogeneous space. The description that Hocks provide is a standard desktop interface with multiple windows open. I can relate to it as I normally have multiple Word documents, Google search pages, YouTube, Adobe PDFs, and UNM email, UNM learn tabs all open on my computer screen; and sometimes I will be on my phone texting friends and check social media. This experience is constantly mediated, as a user my windowed computer is both automatic and interactive. Hocks states that it is typical of websites and the demands they put on readers like me when we have to move from panel to panel or screen to screen and make sense of the diverse elements in those panels, pages, or screens.

Am 15. Mai hatten die NachDenkSeiten diesen Artikel Zynischer Umgang mit den Palästinensern im Gazastreifen – sie sind entweder dem Tode geweiht oder müssen weichen. veröffentlicht. Daraufhin kamen eine Reihe von Leserbriefen. Eine Leserin meint, der Artikel zeige, ich befände mich in der „guten alten deutschen Tradition des Judenhasses“. Das ist aus meiner Sicht das Zeichen einer verhetzten Diskussion. – Ich hatte darauf hingewiesen, dass es die heute bestimmenden Kräfte in Israel aus meiner Sicht darauf anlegen, den Palästinensern das Leben im Gazastreifen so unmöglich zu machen, dass sie weichen. Ich hatte mich dabei insbesondere auf einen israelischen Historiker, nämlich auf Ilan Pappe, bezogen. Aufgrund dieser meiner Einschätzung kommt Frau Gudrun Eussner zum zitierten Befund: „Judenhass“. Wir geben heute diesen und einige andere Leserbriefe zur Kenntnis und ergänzen dies am Ende durch einen Bericht eines Palästinensers aus dem Gazastreifen und durch ein Interview der Süddeutschen Zeitung mit einem israelischen Scharfschützen. Sie befinden sich in bester Gesellschaft. Ja, die gute alte deutsche Tradition des Judenhasses, modifiziert und schön verpackt in Liebe zu den armen palästinensischen Opfern. Ich habe das während meiner Studienzeit erlebt. Nach dem Sechstagekrieg wurde einer nach dem anderen meiner politischen Freunde, die bislang auf der Seite Israels standen, zu Israelfeinden. Allen voran mein Kumpel Dieter Kunzelmann, der sich dann bald in der Fasanenstraße entsprechend austobte. Ich stand plötzlich ziemlich allein da, war links und gegen die Politik der Araber.

Sie haben aber recht: Die Hamas geht wirklich zynisch um mit den Palästinensern im Gazastreifen.

Stefan Kreft am 15.5.2018: Hallo liebes Team der NDS, Zum Artikel “Zynischer Umgang mit den Palästinensern im Gazastreifen – sie sind entweder dem Tode geweiht oder müssen weichen.” möchte ich zwei Anmerkungen bzw. weiterführende Hinweise geben. Da es sich im Wesentlichen um zwei Videos handelt, wäre dieser Beitrag auch bei den Videohinweisen angebracht, entscheiden Sie selbst. In einem Interview mit TheRealNews hat Norman Finkelstein zwei interessante Perspektiven eröffnet. Zum einen verweist er auf die Tatsache, dass völkerrechtlich den Palästinensern als ultimo ratio auch gewaltsame, bewaffnete Mittel zur Durchsetzung ihres Rechts legitimiert seien, Israel hätte dagegen kein Recht auf seiner Seite, was ihr momentanes Agieren betrifft.  Zum anderen bezweifelt Norman Finkelstein den üblichen Sprachgebrauch von einer Grenze zwischen Israel/Gaza (Grenze zwischen zwei Staaten). Vielmehr handelt es sich um Ghettozäune oder Gefägnismauern. Dies ist deswegen wichtig, weil immer wieder argumentiert wird, dass Israel das Recht hätte, seine Grenzen zu verteidigen. Sehr geehrtes Team der Nachdenkseiten,

ich schätze ihre Arbeit wirklich sehr und stimme auch mit fast allem was Sie veröffentlichen fast 100-prozentig überein, aber in der Israel-Frage finde ich ihre Einschätzungen doch häufig etwas einseitig.

Damit wir uns nicht falsch verstehen, auch ich bin mit der aktuellen Überreaktion Israels an der Grenze von Gaza sowie mit Nethanjahus Politik und seiner sehr rechstslastigen Koalition überhaupt nicht einverstanden, genau so verhält es sich mit Siedlungspolitik, die ich für absolut kontraproduktiv halte.

Allerdings bin ich der Meinung, dass an der jetztigen fast hoffnungslos zerstrittenen Lage, die Palästinenser wirklich nicht unschuldig sind und sie selber massiv dazu beigetragen haben. Auch bei den jetzigen Grenzvorfällen werden die jungen Palästinenser bewusst mit brennenden Reifen und Steinen vonn der Hamas an die Grenze geschickt, um die Toten und die entsprechenden Bilder zu produzieren. Es ist wie bei allem, man muss immer am Anfang anfangen.

Ich brauche jetzt nicht die ganze Geschichte aufzuzählen, die sie sicher zur Genüge kennen, nur ein paar Punkte.   Zunächst haben die Juden dort ihren Staat höchstwahrscheinlich nur wegen des Holocaust bekommen, so dass leider in erster Linie wir Deutschen indirekt für die dortigen Zuständen verantworlich sind. Vermutlich leidet ganz Israel durch die Holocausterfahrung praktisch an eine Art Volkstrauma und neigt auch deswegen häufig zu Überreagtionen nach der Devise „Wehret den Anfängen, das wird uns nie wieder passieren.“.

Die Palästinenser waren die meiste Zeit uneinig, zu keinem wirklichen Frieden bereit und viele wollen nach wie vor die Juden ins Meer treiben. Was geschehen wäre, wenn sie gewonnen hätten, können wir nur erahnen. Ihre Führer haben sich häufig nur selber die Taschen voll gemacht, unterdrücken ihr eigenes Volk und speziell die Hamas lenkt durch die Vorgänge wieder von ihrem eigenen Unvermögen ab.

Neben der sogenannten Naqba, der Vertreibung und Flucht von ca 750000 Palästinenser wurden danach auch ca 800000 Juden aus den arabischen Ländern vertrieben. Es kann nicht sein, dass nur der eine Vorgang schlimm, der andere aber ok ist.

In den ersten Jahren war das Zusammenleben der beiden Völker trotz des Konflikts auf jeden Fall immer noch wesentlich besser als jetzt, es gab früher auch wesentlich kompromissbereitere Regierungen in Israel als jetzt. Jeder Verhandlungsversuch wurde immer wieder mit Attentaten torpediert, bis jetzt schließlich das ganze Land durch hohe Zäune getrennt ist. Wieso Camp David gescheitert ist, habe ich auch nie verstanden.

Mir tun die jungen vernünftigen Palästinenser leid, denen von ihren Vorfahren eine so schwierige und hoffnungslose Situation beschert würde.

Was man an dem ganzen sieht, ist dass Hass und Gewalt nichts lösen und alles nur schlimmer machen.

Ich denke, dass Israel wirklich aktuell nicht mit so viel Gewalt vorgehen müsste, aber es ist auch nicht so, dass die Palästinenser nur die Opfer und die Israelis nur die Täter sind.

Auf beiden Seiten müssten die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung Vernunft annehmen und  auf die anderen zugehen, auch wenn das zur Zeit kaum vorstellbar ist.

Liebe Leut,

hab ich Euch gestern ein SZ Interview mit einem ehemaligen israelischen Todesschützen geschickt, so könnt Ihr jetzt einen Brief von Abed Schokry aus Gaza lesen, der von seinen traumatischen Erfahrungen bei den jüngsten Massenerschießungen und Massenverletzungen wafffenloser Demonstranten berichtet.  Er lebt dort mit seiner Familie, studierte in Deutschland . .

Wie setzt sich jeder von uns als BürgerIn ein, um das Schweigen gegenüber Israel zu brechen, immer mit der bequemen Rechtfertigung, dass doch unsere Eltern Nazis waren  . . und wir daher zu den Menschenrechtsverbrechen, die Israel ständig und seit Jahren zunehmend begeht, keine Meinung äußern dürfen . .?  Nur öffentlicher Druck wird an der Politik gegenüber Israel etwas ändern können !

Unerträglich ist das Schweigen dazu bei uns in Deutschland und Europa von Seiten der Regierungen, Medien, Kirchen …

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, Liebe Freundinnen und Liebe Freunde,

Gaza am 15 Mai 2018

Meine letzte Email hatte ich mit den Sätzen: „Ich bin wütend“ und „ich bin verzweifelt“ begonnen. Nach den Ereignissen gestern, bin ich nun sprachlos, fassungslos, machtlos, ohnmächtig. Und um ehrlich zu sein, weiß ich nicht so recht, wie ich in Worte fassen kann, was in mir vorgeht, was ich zum Ausdruck bringen möchte. Denn es ist gestern ein Verbrechen/Blutbad geschehen, es wurde ein Massaker verübt, das zum Himmel schreit.

Die Täter sind die Soldaten und Befehlshaber und letztlich die Regierung „der einzigen Demokratie im Nahen Osten“. Die Opfer sind die unbewaffnet demonstrierenden Palästinenserinnen und Palästinenser an der von Israel festgesetzten Grenze zwischen dem Gazastreifen und Israel. Die Demonstranten mit leeren Händen, nur mit Mut und Courage ausgerüstet. Sie tragen keine Schutzanzüge, keine Gewehre, keine Zielfernrohre wie die Soldaten auf der anderen Seite. Diesen Soldaten wurde kein Haar gekrümmt, keiner von ihnen  wurde verletzt. Aber sie schießen auf Männer, Frauen und Kinder. Es gibt Videos, in denen zu hören ist, wie sie sich über einen „Treffer“, einen Erschossenen freuen. Das ist so unglaublich menschenverachtend, dass ich laut schreien möchte.

Seit fast 12 Jahren leben wir im größten Freiluftgefängnis der Welt. Wie der Alltag in diesem Gefängnis aussieht, habe ich Ihnen schon oft beschrieben. Strom bekommen wir vier Stunden täglich, das Wasser aus der Leitung ist sehr salzig oder mit Abwasser vermischt, also ungeeignet um zu duschen oder um Gemüse oder Obst damit zu waschen. Die Jugendlichen haben keine Hoffnung, sie sehen keine Perspektive, sie sehen sich auch als Opfer der Besatzung, der Abriegelung und der zerstrittenen palästinensischen Gruppen.  Inzwischen sind fast 70% von ihnen arbeitslos. Die Jugendlichen kennen nichts anderes als das Leben mit permanenten Problemen, denn mal mangelt es an Brennstoffen bzw. Kochgas, mal an Grundnahrungsmitteln, vor allem auch an Medikamenten. Und die Familienmitglieder, die überhaupt Arbeit haben, bekommen oft ihr Gehalt nicht. Es ist ein Leben, dass nicht nur zornig und wütend macht, sondern das auch krank macht, oft genug körperlich krank aber vor allem psychisch krank.

Gestern bin ich am Rande der Demonstration in Gaza Stadt gewesen. Ich habe die vielen Menschen gesehen, junge und alte Menschen, Männer und Frauen, auch Kinder mit ihren Eltern. Danach kehrte ich heim und kaum war ich Zuhause, da erfuhr ich, dass der 17 Jahre alte Sohn meiner Cousine erschossen worden war. Danach kamen Meldungen, dass weitere Verwandte von mir verletzt wurden. Einige hatten Schusswunden an den Beinen, andere an der Brust und weitere hatten Bauchschüsse erlitten. Manche von ihnen wurden sofort in den Krankenhaeusern operiert, andere warten darauf, ins Ausland verlegt zu werden, denn es fehlen geeignete medizinische Geräte oder Medikamente. Ob man sie aus Gaza raus lässt, weiß ich nicht.

Ich lief sofort los, um meine Verwandten im Krankenhaus zu besuchen. Es fällt mir immer schwer, ein Krankenhaus zu betreten, aber was ich diesmal sah, das übersteigt alles, was man sich vorstellen kann. Verletzte in den Gängen, überall Blut, die Patientenräume überfüllt.

Während ich schreibe, klingen mir noch das Stöhnen und die Schmerzensschreie in den Ohren. Ich konnte sehen, wie sehr die Ärzte und das gesamte Personal alles taten, was in ihrer Macht stand, um zu helfen, um in all diesem Elend zu funktionieren. Über 2700 Menschen sind verletzt worden. Stellen Sie sich vor, was es bedeutet, so viele Verletzte zu versorgen. Das ist selbst in einer Stadt in Deutschland kaum möglich.

60 Menschen wurden erschossen, 60 Menschen ließen ihr Leben, während die Welt die fröhlichen Gesichter der Regierungen, die in Jerusalem feierten, im Fernsehen sehen konnte.

Unser Leid interessiert die Welt nicht. Die, die sowieso auf der Seite der fröhlichen Gesellschaft stehen, die mit ihnen, was auch immer sie tun, uneingeschränkt sympathisieren, geben den zynischen Rat, dass wir still sein sollen, dass wir uns damit abfinden sollen für alle Zukunft unter Besatzung zu leben.

Ein Bruder von mir arbeitet im Krankenhaus und sagte mir, ich möge doch nach Hause gehen, denn der Anblick dieses Elends könne ich nicht ertragen. Wie recht er hatte. So blieb ich nur kurz bei meinen Verwandten und machte mich auf den Heimweg. Ich weiß gar nicht mehr, wie das war. Ich lief wie ein Automat. Alles ging mir durch den Kopf. Zu Hause angekommen, fiel ich sofort ins Bett. Ich fühlte mich ganz elend. Aber das Einschlafen war sehr schwer, denn weder die Bilder der Verletzten aus dem Krankenhaus konnte ich verdrängen noch den Geruch vom Blut konnte ich loswerden. Heute war ich dann bei den Familien der Erschossenen, um ihnen mein Beileid zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Die Toten sind nun begraben. Und sie werden nicht zum Leben erweckt werden. ABER was ist mit den vielen Verletzten? Wie werden sie ihr Leben weiterführen können, wenn ihre Beine amputiert wurden oder wenn sie gelähmt werden oder wenn sie nicht mehr sehen oder hören können. Die Mehrheit der Verletzten ist unter 30 Jahre alt. Und sie haben nun kaum eine Zukunft vor sich.

Gewalt erzeugt Gegengewalt, das ist bekannt. Jeder Präsident bzw. Regierungschef muss alles tun, um sein Land zu beschützen. Das ist auch bekannt. Nun stelle ich aber Fragen, auf die ich keine Antwort habe

Ist der Einsatz von diesen Waffen gegen eine zivile und unbeffneten Deomnstranten legitim bzw. rechtens?

Sind unbewaffnete Demonstranten so gefährlich für die Sicherheit einer Besatzungsarmee, die zur stärksten der Welt gehört?

Gibt es keine anderen Wege auf Demonstrationen zu reagieren als mit scharfer Munition gezielt zu schießen?

Was sagte das internationale Gesetz?

Darf sich ein Land ungestraft über internationale Gesetze und Menschenrechte hinwegsetzen?

Handelten die schwer bewaffneten Besatzungssoldaten tatsächlich aus „Notwehr“ wie sie behaupten? Wurde auch nur einer der Besatzungssoldaten verletzt?

Darf ein Land ein anderes Land 50 Jahre und mehr einfach besetzen und das Leben der Menschen unerträglich machen? Ist es nicht Aufgabe der Weltgemeinschaft dem Einhalt zu gebieten?

Wie kann es sein, dass der deutsche Bundesaußenminister sich für die Wahrung der Menschenrechte einsetzen will, aber wenn es um die Menschenrechte der Palästinenser geht, dann schweigt er?

Im ersten Absatz des deutschen Grundgesetzes heißt es „Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar“. Ich will nichts mehr als in Würde, in Ruhe und in Frieden mein Leben leben und es gestalten, wie ich es mag und nicht wie eine andere Macht oder wie der Stärkere es mir vorschreibt.

Mit dieser extremen Gewalt seitens der Besatzung kann kein Frieden entstehen und solche unmenschlichen Kollektivstrafmaßnahmen werden weder uns, noch unseren Nachbarn Frieden bringen.

Zum Thema die Verlegung der US-Botschaft von Tel-Aviv nach Jerusalem werde ich in meiner nächsten Mail schreiben. Heute musste ich erst einmal loswerden, was ich gestern hautnah erlebt habe.

Der ehemalige israelische Scharfschütze Nadav Weiman kritisiert seine Regierung und den Einsatz von Kampfsoldaten in Gaza – und beschreibt, wie es sich anfühlt, ein Leben zu beenden.

Die Bilder der Massenproteste im Gazastreifen vom Montag gehen um die Welt. Nach palästinensischen Angaben sind am 70. Jahrestag der Gründung Israels 61Menschen getötet und mehr als 2700 verletzt worden. Von den israelischen Soldaten auf der anderen Seite des Zauns gibt es weniger Bilder. Ihr Job ist, jene Menschen aufzuhalten, die auf die Grenze zurennen. Wie fühlen sich die israelischen Soldaten dabei?

Nadav Weiman war von 2005 bis 2008 Elitesoldat in einer Scharfschützeneinheit und wurde vor allem im Westjordanland eingesetzt. Danach hat er Jahre gebraucht, um seine Erlebnisse als Scharfschütze zu verarbeiten. Inzwischen leitet der 32-Jährige die Bildungsabteilung von Breaking the Silence, wo ehemalige israelische Soldaten Zeugnis ablegen. Die Organisation ist vor allem in Israel umstritten, 2017 hat der damalige Bundesaußenminister Sigmar Gabriel einen diplomatischen Eklat verursacht, weil er sich mit Vertretern von Breaking the Silence traf.

SZ: Haben Sie je auf protestierende Palästinenser geschossen?

Nadav Weiman: Nein. Ich kann kaum glauben, dass jetzt Scharfschützen gegen Protestierende eingesetzt werden. Scharfschützen schießen gezielt einzelne Personen ab; wer unbewaffnete Demonstranten warnen will, setzt normale Soldaten ein. Wir Sniper sind zum Töten ausgebildet, wir stoppen keinen Protest. Unser Job ist es, unbemerkt irgendwo zu liegen, sehr lange zu warten und schließlich einen Schuss abzugeben, der trifft.

Kann man das wirklich nur als Job empfinden, Menschen zu erschießen?

In dem Moment fühlt es sich so an. Man zielt möglichst genau, um seine Aufgabe zu erfüllen. Manche prahlen mit der Zahl ihrer Opfer. Die Formulierung ist dann aber nicht “soundsoviele Tote”, sondern “soundsoviele Kreuze am Gewehr”. Wie es für diejenigen war, die in letzter Zeit am Grenzzaun stationiert waren, weiß ich nicht. Es kann sich schon anders anfühlen, wenn man auf unbewaffnete Frauen oder Kinder schießen muss, von denen keine Gefahr ausgeht.

Mir war immer bewusst, dass ich ein Leben beende. Wenn ich durch das Zielfernrohr einen Menschen anvisierte, dachte ich: Ich sehe jetzt die letzten Momente seines Lebens mit an. Ich wusste beim Abdrücken, dass ich das für immer vor mir sehen werde. Das ist, wie wenn Sie sich ein Bein brechen oder einen Autounfall haben, das vergessen Sie nie.

Ein Beinbruch oder ein Unfall ist etwas, das mir ungewollt zustößt. Ein Gewehr feuert man absichtlich ab.

Ja, aber es sind alles Beispiele für Traumata. Jemanden zu erschießen ist traumatisch. Auch wenn uns beigebracht wurde, dass von den Palästinensern eine Gefahr für uns und unser Land ausgeht. Es ist verwirrend.

Bei den Gaza-Protesten hatten die Scharfschützen nach Angaben der israelischen Armee Weisung, nur nach Warnung und auf die Beine zu schießen.

Ja, das macht man, um Menschen auszuschalten. Zum Beispiel können die identifiziert werden, die den Protest anleiten, die etwa am lautesten skandieren. Da zielt man auf den Knöchel oder in die Kniescheibe. Über dem Knie wird es dann lebensgefährlich wegen der Schlagader im Oberschenkel. Es lässt sich steuern, ob man jemanden verletzt oder erschießt. Die Zahl von mehr als 60Toten ist verrückt.

Unter den Todesopfern der vergangenen Wochen sind 14- und 15-Jährige. Gibt es für Kinder und Jugendliche keine Ausnahmen?

Manchmal wird unterschieden zwischen “unter 1,40 Meter groß” und “über 1,40Meter groß”, aber normalerweise gibt es keine spezifischen Ausnahmen für Kinder: Wenn von einem Palästinenser eine Gefahr ausgeht, musst du ihn töten. Die drei rules of engagement gelten für alle. Diese drei Regeln sind sehr, sehr einfach: Wer dich bedroht, muss Mittel, Absicht und Möglichkeit haben. Dann darfst du schießen. Er muss zum Beispiel einen Molotow-Cocktail in der Hand haben, diesen werfen wollen und in Wurfweite stehen. Wer 400 Meter weit weg mit einem Messer wedelt, ist keine Bedrohung.

Und diese drei Regeln gelten für jeden?

Für jeden Palästinenser. Für Israelis nicht. Mir wurde damals im Westjordanland eingebläut: Wenn theoretisch ein Siedler mit dem Gewehr vor dir steht und dich umbringen will, dann versteck dich hinter einem großen Stein und warte, bis seine Munition leer ist. Dann musst du die Grenzpolizei rufen, du selbst darfst ihn nicht anrühren. Siedler stehen über dem Gesetz.

Wie soll sich Israel denn Ihrer Meinung nach verteidigen?

Man kann Menschen mit Tränengas oder mit Gummigeschossen verletzen und abschrecken oder man kann sie irgendwie anderweitig warnen. Ich finde vor allem, dass solche Proteste künftig verhindert werden können, indem Israel aufhört, Palästinenser zu unterdrücken.

Als ich zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben im Westjordanland war, starrten mich die Leute auf der Straße mit dieser Mischung aus Angst und Hass an. Ich dachte lange Zeit: Das ist, weil sie Juden hassen. So sagt es ja auch unsere Regierung. Irgendwann habe ich gemerkt: Die starren mich so an, weil ich Soldat bin und ihr Land besetze.

Sie haben Jahre nach Ihrem Wehrdienst angefangen, öffentlich über Ihre Erlebnisse zu sprechen. Warum?

Weil die Bilder mich nicht losließen. Wir haben Menschen am Checkpoint eingeschüchtert. Wir haben mitten in der Nacht Privathäuser gestürmt, die Familie geweckt und aus dem Bett gezerrt. Dann haben wir sie stundenlang in ein Zimmer gesperrt, damit wir von den Fenstern ihrer Wohnung aus im Dunkeln auf Menschen schießen können. Bei fünf Einsätzen in drei Jahren hat meine Einheit gezielt Palästinenser getötet.

In Israel muss jeder Militärdienst machen – warum erfährt die Öffentlichkeit das alles erst von Ihnen?

Den Wehrdienst muss längst nicht jeder ableisten, zum Beispiel gibt es Ausnahmen für verheiratete Frauen, Orthodoxe und Siedler. Von den übrigen Wehrdienstleistenden werden die meisten nicht Kampfsoldaten, noch weniger werden Scharfschützen – und die wenigsten werden in solchen Gebieten eingesetzt wie ich damals. In meiner Einheit waren wir zu zwölft. Nach dem Dienst hat kein einziger in der Armee Karriere gemacht. Wir alle hatten genug.
