This is my IG Top 9 and i want to post it also here because this year is so much important for me.
And i'm sorry but i will write in french because this is so much easy for me 😅.
J'ai eu une merveilleuse année 2023 et j'ai envie de la garder précieusement dans ma mémoire. Il y a eu des hauts et des bas bien sûr mais j'ai l'impression que ma vie a changé et ça fait du bien de se sentir vivre pour quelque chose.
1 La Garde de Nuit et Ouest Hurlant.
J'aime mon association, j'aime notre communauté, j'aime nos retrouvailles parfois un peu trop éloignées mais on est toujours là au fil des ans. Les salons de livres sont toujours de bons moments et Ouest Hurlant a été un très bon moment.
2 Joker Out et son fandom
Dire que Joker Out a changé ma vie est un euphémisme. Et si le groupe est merveilleux, j'aime surtout la communauté qui existe et qui s'est formée autour d'eux. Je suis plus active sur Twitter qu'ici du coup j'ai parfois du mal à retrouver qui est qui et j'en suis désolée mais mon voyage solo aux Pays Bas m'a permis de rencontrer de merveilleuses personnes et de rentrer les bras plein de cadeaux. Merci à vous, merci à @zadig-of-fate pour les lives instagram, merci à Lena, Anya et @luluxa , merci à tous les fanartistes, merci à tous les auteurs de fan fictions. Notre fandom est parfois compliqué à vivre, mais je l'aime.
3 Londres
Je suis fan de l'eurovision depuis de nombreuses années mais c'est 25 ans après en être tombée amoureuse que j'ai enfin assisté à mon premier concert ayant un rapport avec ça.
Je suis allée à Londres, j'ai pris l'avion et je suis allee voir Joker Out, quelques jours de vacances et des souvenirs plein la tête.
4 Amsterdam
Puisque j'étais bien partie pour casser toutes mes habitudes, j'ai passé 4 jours à Amsterdam pour Het Grote Songfestivalfeest. Un super concert, une ville merveilleuse, je suis morte de froid mais c'était génial.
5 Joker Out La Haye et Amsterdam
C'était fabuleux. Bien mieux qu'à Londres puisque cette fois il y avait toute la discographie, mais surtout j'y suis allée seule, j'ai passé des journées entières dans les files d'attente, je me suis encore plus gelée et vous savez quoi ? Ça valait absolument le coup. Chaque seconde était merveilleuse, j'ai rencontré Jan et Nace après le concert, j'ai des photos superbes (pas celles où je suis dessus bien sûr) et j'ai déjà hâte de recommencer.
6 Jean-Laurent del Socorro
Mon auteur préféré réussit à se faire une petite place avec cette photo où je montrais tous les livres que j'avais de lui. C'est à dire tous et même certains en double.
Et pour l'année prochaine ? Et bien on va continuer comme ça. J'ai besoin de reprendre un peu la lecture et faire quelques salons de livres.
J'espère retourner à Londres, pour voir Sudden Lights cette fois. Et puis il y aura Utrecht, Anvers et Glasgow (si je ne rajoute pas d'autres dates de concert au milieu) pour revoir Joker Out.
Continuer à bouger, chanter et vivre.

26-27 May 1998 - return for a second stint in IT in Germany

Hello everyone, Welcome to my 25th anniversary revisiting of my time in Europe in Summer 1998.  I worked at a high technology firm on a temporary job assignment, and lived in a shared apartment.  I also had the opportunity to visit some cities like - Cergy Le Haut FR - Nuremberg, Fürth, Garmisch-Partenkirchen (DE) - Scharnitz AT - Prague CZ - Salzburg AT - Berchtesgaden - Fischhausen-Neuhaus near Brecherspitz - Berlin via Fulda and Braunschweig - Frankfurt an der Oder - Slubice PL - Zürich and Chiasso CH - Milano and Bozen IT - Vienna AT - Budapest HU - Zürich (again for Street Parade 1998) - Paris - Lyon
I flew over from San Francisco through New York JFK Terminal 6 (has since been demolished), and back through St. Louis, Missouri.
Here is what I remember from the first day, Tuesday 26 May 1998, and Wednesday 27 May 1998.   Woke up about 5:30 AM, had breakfast and left the house at 6:30 AM, was taken to SFO airport by parents. Checked in luggage about 7:30 AM, said goodbye to parents, went through security in Terminal 1 (Harvey Milk Terminal), listened to The Dog House on KYLD 94.9 FM, heard Elvis Medina (radio_elvis) do a prank call on a man who owed child support payments to his soon to be ex-wife, flew to NYC JFK airport and landed about 1 PM there.
Was a bit worried that the flight would explode as it did in 1996.  I made it across the Atlantic just fine.  
Tuesday 27 May 1998 Before landing, I was able to listen to BBC Radio 1, 97 to 99 FM in the UK.  I heard "La tristessa durera" by Manic Street Preachers.  It would have been around 8 AM Paris time, when the plane would have landed.  I landed at CDG T1, took the underground travellator to customs and baggage claim. Took a shuttle bus as there was no Roissyval constructed yet (was ready by 2008 when I returned), to the RER T1 station.  I bought a Paris Visite ticket for the RER and entire RATP metro, trams and bus, even the Montmartre funicular. Took the RER from CDG T1 to Paris Gare du Nord.  At Sevran Beaudottes, the station is underground as well as CDG T2/TGV and Gare du Nord, most others were surface stations.  At Gare du Nord, the ticket was used to change to the M5, where I rode it to République, then M8 to Lédru Rollin where the Auberge Internationale des Jeunes was located, in the 11ème district.
Dropped off my luggage, then took the M8 to Nation, changed to a M9 for Croix de Chavaux.  Took a bus to Gallieni.  Took the M3 to see the Georges Pompidou building and the Stravinsky fountains.  Took metro to Montmartre (Metro station Anvers) and went up the funicular.  Came back and took the M2 from Anvers to Jaurès to ride the 7Bis metro line.  The 7Bis at the time used MF88s, quite unique for a metro.  The most advanced rolling stock was MP89, used mostly on the M1, which still had drivers long before it was automated.  Came back to Louis Blanc to ride the M7 to Opéra / Auber for the RER.  A woman was shouting on the southbound platform of the Louis Blanc M7, could not understand what she was shouting about.  I took the RER to Port Maillote, then a RER C to Champ De Mars and another RER C to Issy Val De Seine.
At Issy Val De Seine, I took a T2 the entire distance to La Défense.  The T2 was built on former Banlieu commuter rail tracks.  The only underground station was La Défense.  I exited, and looked around the complex including the Grande Arche.  The weather was not very good.  I went inside the Les Quartre Temps mall and looked for something to buy in the Auchan grocery store. I found some drinks but not much else.  
After La Defense, I took the RER A to Cergy Le Haut.  The previous year, I rode to Cergy St. Christophe, which was quite a long way from Paris.  In early October 1983, my family stayed close to the Cergy Préfecture station, so I kind of knew where I was going more or less.  One thing I noticed at Cergy Le Haut, was that there were no fare gates, unlike at other stations.  The weather was a bit friendlier by the time I visited Cergy Le Haut.
I returned to the 11ème district and looked for a place to eat supper.  I ate at Tony's Restaurant at the corner of Rue Trousseau and Rue du Faubourg.  It has since been renamed to Nakama Resto.  The owner gave me a free glass of tomato juice, with a small amount of vodka.  I think I had a four seasons pizza called "quattro stagioni", was really good.
I went to bed about 10 PM, and had to wake up in time to catch the "Mozart" Eurocity train to Munich.  More will be told in the next chapter.

fashion queen! which nct era has the best fashun in ur opinion?? and if u were a designer which neos would u pick as ur models?
I was so excited to answer this that I wrote several pages and it basically turned into a style analysis for each unit so I sure hope you have some time on your hands to read everything I’ve just written! (I did not reread so sorry for any typing mistake)
NCT is known to be experimental in their music and that’s also the case in their styling so there’s a lot for me to get into even though sometimes it’s a miss. One thing I will say though is that when it comes to the styling in mv/teasers, what’s around the clothes is super important because if you have a very specific styling concept, your set design or graphic design needs to complement that and give the audience more clues on how to read all these elements together (the cherry bomb era is a great example of that with all the added graphic elements and the predominance of the colour pink) and recently I’ve found that the creative team has not really gone further than just putting nct in an outfit in front of a basic background so it makes for a pretty underwhelming result
But let’s move on to my favourite styling eras. I’m going to do this per unit (I’ll finish with NCT U) and define an era by its teaser pictures and the mv (and not go through all the performance looks during the promotion period)
I’m putting this under a read more because it’s reaaally long (I put pictures so that it’s not just one big chunk of text)
NCT 127
Easily the most experimental unit when it comes to fashion, especially in their first years where they would wear mix of sportswear, grunge references, avant-garde fashion and a lot of layers. When it comes to their debut “Firetruck”, I think it fitted the song really well but that it didn’t fit all the members equally (especially the younger ones, for me Taeyong and Taeil pulled it off the best – it’s expected of Taeyong but I also think that Taeil always stand out when they go for edgy/unconventional look, I think it really suits him).
Anyway, just to say that they were off to a very strong start and then I’m just going to kindly ignore the Limitless styling and move on to Cherry Bomb!

One thing nicely done for CB is how when you look at a group picture they’re clearly all following the same concept but they’re not necessarily matching or giving off the same vibes if you take them individually. I love the use of the colour pink which brings a) a great visual impact (you don’t ever see that much pink at once – especially on men) and b) an harmony despite the shapes and styles of their outfits being so vastly different, you’ve got ties, tousled, shirts, little frilled collars, stripes and all-over prints, sportswear and formal wear… (ex: taeyong’s short jacket is reminiscent of something a little luxurious, even maybe historical/noble with the little added embroidery-like details, it reminds me of these boleros jackets worn by toreros that are often red/gold VS doyoung’s overalls is an outfit that has a much more recent origin as it was first worn by factories workers, it’s usually blue or grey and is meant to be practical rather than pleasing to the eye -> here it fits very well with the general setting of the mv in what looks like an empty industrial storage space)

This second look is more of a game on how to deconstruct formal wear (there are less prints and no bold colours, their hair is less messy…) but they don’t just add sportswear like the bomber jacket, you can find rock or more “modern” elements with the leather jackets or the jean jackets. All in black and white so great contrast with the previous looks, although that mix and match concept is still there. My favourite elements are the checkered ones (worn by taeyong, taeil and haechan) as it reminds me of the strategy element of the chess game which fits pretty well with all the weapons and other arms visible in the mv (a bit like a nod to the game battleship)

This one I love that they developed their own print, especially since it’s another graphic element used elsewhere (see their album cover), because it’s a great way to really introduce their identity as a group, through the different visual elements they put out in a comeback, it’s like a logo but as a print. And all the teasers and the mv did a great job at mixing 2D/3D contents so that’s another nice way to be cohesive. It’s not my fave look out of the 3 (especially because I do not approve of that belt-suspenders-bag they gave Johnny, it’s like everything you don’t want to put a dancer in and it’s ugly as well) but I still like the fact that’s it’s another nod to the battle/strategy aspect of this comeback, like they’re on a mission to hit the stage and conquer it
Then fast forward to my other favourite one, Simon Says! (No teaser pictures here because they don’t show anything or they show not enough lol)
First of all THE MASKS

Oh how I wish they could’ve been shown more (imagine teasers with the members wearing them!!! I would’ve loved individual teasers based on each of the masks concepts) Once again, a great to have group concept without making everyone wear the same thing. They’re all super different and full of details. Haechan’s is the only one from what I could who’s mask is actually a mask and not a fully covering hood. The materials and techniques used on these are either evocative of “fragile” things like glass and flowers but theses elements have their own hidden strength. Some others are covered in lace, pearls, fringes or fur…all these things are usually considered to be precious or even luxurious but it covers their faces and their identity and they throw it away in rebellion (and I think it’s also super interesting how Taeyong who takes off his mask first has the least ornamented one)

Then the outfits themselves. Simon Says in an interesting MV because unlike most others they wear one outfit for most of the MV (the second one appears quite late in the mv and is lit and staged in a way that makes it less visible). It’s a mostly grey/white set of outfits which is usually a colour combo for office wear or maybe factory workers, it’s not something that can seem very exciting or edgy. The styling in these outfits reminds me of the works of Japanese designers who came to Paris in the 80’s and kind of shook the whole high fashion system by bringing a different type of shapes, aesthetic and purpose to fashion (Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto…). These designers  went on to become super successful and inspired another wave of “avant-garde” designers nicknamed “the 6 of Anvers” (Anvers is a city in Belgium), this group includes Martin Margiella, Dries Van Noten…And to me the outfits in Simon Says really fit into this aesthetic. Unconventional fits, various layers, it’s not so much mix and match than a work on contrast between structure and fluidity (Yuta’s half skirt with un-trimed edges, Haechan’s long shirt with the long bow and the fitted jacket, Mark’s top with the various see-through layers of different lengths…).
An other interesting details (which to me calls back to the mask and that tension in the song/concept of letting go/being free of expectations), is the way they all have thick strings tied on their feet/ankles. Not holding them back because their feet aren’t tied together but there’s still this clear restriction of the garment itself, a reminder that there are tied to something and not completely free (also an interesting choice when dressing dancers who would need to have no added weight or discomfort in their outfit to dance but visually something is holding their ankles)
Honorable mentions:
Kick It– they managed to create very memorable outfits while taking inspirations from already well known elements (both for the fighting/training outfits and the bomber jackets). The black and white outfits especially are very original as performance outfits/dancing clothes since the og garment they’re inspired by has already such a strong identity outside of the performing arts and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it be used as a stage outfit? Or concept? It’s a nice exemple of how you can take inspiration for something designed to be useful and to be efficient (in fighting) and turn it into an aesthetic.

Truthfully, martial art training outfit was already an “aesthetic” on its own but they made it a performance costume and now I do feel like it’s one of these looks that everyone will remember (like if there was a “most memorable kpop outfits” list it could easily have kick it’s black/white fits). The rest of the outfits for that concept weren’t as memorable/original to me although I feel like it showed a new approach to the styling of nct 127 as a group since they all had very similar outfits this time (especially when wearing the jackets).

Also, interestingly,  that shot of Jaehyun that had everyone go “wow” ? Well it’s impactful because it’s him and he looks like that and it’s shot in a very specific way, but it’s also even more impactful because he’s the only one who gets to wear that kind of outfit in the mv. Everyone else has 3 sets of outfits (black and white, shiny black, red jacket and black pants) but he has 4 and that suit is only used in that shot which makes for a greater impact!
And I feel like Kick It in terms of styling opened a new era for NCT 127 has it kind of broke their usual mix and match/edgy concept. This time they were clearly referencing something already well known (either martial arts, the 90s…), and the members were all matching and they kept on doing that with the military jackets in punch, the other 90s concept in nct 2020…
Touch – for the way the outfits match the sets (in all their individual sets their outfits have a detail in a matching colour), the focus on colours !!! You can see that this whole concept was designed with this colour game/colour progression between the outfits and the set in mind. It’s just very pleasing to the eyes and a great contrast to their usual stuffs (also I wrote my graduation paper on colours so I am really into creative use of colours like this)

OK now moving on to Dream!!
The interesting thing about Dream compared to NCT 127 is that from the beginning although their outfits had to match the song an the concept of the comeback it also had to match their age. Dream’s a group that had to look young when debuting (to the point where they wore outfits that made them look even younger than they were which is rarely done for boy groups) and then they had to transition into adulthood, and all of that had to be made visible. In that aspect, I really like the styling for We Young and Boom (especially when you look at them at the same time).

For We Young, the styling is meant to be reminiscent of school/boy scout uniforms but with a marine vibe. It makes for playful outfits that aren’t too childish but that also aren’t grown up. I prefer the “seaside” outfits as I don’t really like school uniforms as a concept for styling and I think it’s really a choice that suited them and the song so well, it really fitted their energy. It’s playful but it also has a vintage touch to it as these outfits with their stripes and their squared flap at the back date back to the XIXth century (I just found out that it all started with the queen Victoria dressing up her kid in an outfit inspired by the royal navy uniforms for a painting after a cruise ).

Boom on the other side is their first proper “grown-up” concept. We go up was already more grown up but still very “teenager-ish” and although they were mostly teenagers when they did Boom it was clear that this was supposed to be their first entry into “adulthood” as a group at least. And although they did wear a sportswear/casual outfits which is something that isn’t related to age (and I really like the black and white “skeleton” set which already feels more grown-up and more “stylish” than the other casual outfit) , they wore two other “grown-up” elements: suits and all-jean outfits.

And yeah teenagers, and kids wear jeans too but a full jean-on-jean outfit is more of a “grown-up” fashion choice and it makes them look like young men rather than boys. As for the suits, I just really love when stylists play with the codes of that garment (length of the jacket, tightness of the pants, the way the shirt is tucked in…).

Notice how Renjun has a really short jacket, Chenle’s pants are wide, Jeno has a tail…Once again, a really interesting aspect of Kpop is the variations of the same concept based on the members. In the mv, there is a tension between their more grown up selves (the one in suits, the one with a craft/a path) and their young selves (the one running around in the field, the one laying down in the flowers and eating a cake). And there is also in these outfits and the contrast between them this tension, this contrast…which path should they go? The jeans are the more laide back, innocent outfits, whereas the suits come with responsibilities and status (and you’ll notice that in the scene where jisung is left alone to blow his candle it’s when he’s wearing jeans not when he’s in the suits).
Now on to WayV!!
WayV are different from the two in the sense than when they debuted they couldn’t have an “age” concept or an edgy concept because 127 and dream had already taken those and I feel like for that reason they’re still looking for what makes them stand out visually from the others (and in my opinion it’s not in whatever they were wearing for turn back time!). WayV’s concept is space and time travel, it’s building a new life, a new worl, going beyond anything! In my mind, they’re either supposed to feel a bit “otherworldly” (either spectacular or literally like they’re from another world/another universe, a little bit futuristic maybe?) or to look like explorers/travellers (they have a lot of travel/transportation “gears” references in their outfits). Their MVs also have a very different production than the other nct mvs (the scale and the way it’s filmed, the sets…it’s a different approach and it’s usually much more “grand” for their title tracks). The great thing about WayvV styling is usually that they match the outfits well with the world that the mv is set in (like in Moonwalk for example you get a sense of the world they’re in and the fact that it’s not ours or at least not as we know it now through the way they dress – you can’t really say oh it’s inspired by this era or by this or that because -at least- to me it immediately gives me a vibe of something that could be worn in a sci-fi movie, almost like a costume) or that they allude to travel in their styling.

When they debuted with Regular they went for a very sleek and high fashion look which worked really well for them! Even their more “casual” looks were a bit striking and I think that’s very “wayv-like” to me.

Same goes for Take Off where they mix the individual styles (and I don’t like ten’s leopard fur sleeveless jacket at all) and the group concepts – the “flying” outfits and the “racing” outfits (that last one is my favourite! I love the silhouette it creates with the tight pants and the larger tops with an emphasis on the waist).

There’s something a bit extra to WayV - which is why some of their outfits remind me of costumes more than fashion while at the same time they’re the most “high fashion” unit– like the “flying” outfit in Take Off are recognizable as “flying gear” but you can’t really tell what they’re flying, it feels once again like something that they could wear in like star wars or a similar kind of story.

Imagine a movie about 7 men on another planet trying to come together to overcome the dark forces or whatever’s bad on their planet in a futuristic society with a mix of “traditional” and “trendy” outfits? That’s WayV. The movie the 5th Sense? That’s WayV but on steroids. They’re also the only group with actual characters in their mvs, they’re all supposed to have a backstory or an individual setting and find a way to get together in their mvs.
Anyway all that to say that it’s hard for me to pick an era for them because they’ve only had a few and they still feel like they’re looking to solidify their concept, and since moonwalk and turn back time really set the styling in different worlds than ours, you have to look at how they fit in that world rather than ours and I think Moonwalk does it best since it’s the most cohesive one visually. But then I think Regular had the best individual styling!
Okay this is super long but we’re finally getting to NCT U!!!!

The Year Party outfits!!!! I’ve already talked about this but I love when they say we’ll put them in suits and then since they have to make a different one for each of them they cut bits an dpieces of the suits here and there, play with lengths. It’s not a revolutionary concept but in terms of searching for a shape, searching for variations of an already so famous, so well-known garment (everyone has seen a suit, and so many designers have already deconstructed it and then put it back together and so on) it’s so nice, it’s almost like a full collection given how many members there are and it’s just a good tailoring work.It almost feel like an exercise of how many variations of an outfit can you think of? And it looks fun to do! It’s all about the details and the way the layers are set together.

The accessories add to the “formal attire” aspect of it. It almost has a ceremonial look to it. A bit of royalty with the futuristic vibe usually associated with WayV. The dark blue suits were pretty classic, the most interesting details (for me at least) were on the light blue ones. Especially since it’s a rare colour to find in formal wear or in ceremonial wear. In general, I feel like it’s a pretty rare colour in fashion outside of like shirts and baby clothes? I think it was a great styling choice for a content like the year party although I do wish they (either NCT or WayV who’ve touched upon this kind of outfit a bit already) would do a full comeback with this kind of styling (like the lighter version of the black and green outfits in SuperM’s One). It’s not revolutionary but it was something new for NCT and I really hope they use that elegant/futuristic concept once again.
Also in these outfits, the jewelry is super important and adds to the “grand” aspect of these outfits. The concept is that these aren’t ordinary outfits for ordinary men, we’re witnessing something “special” and so they aren’t wearing their usual jewels either (of course the big chains are still there but differently look at that necklace jaehyun is wearing)

As for who would I chose as my models…it really depends on what I’d make them wear tbh for menswear the things I’d like to design would either be something like formal wear or knitwear – I’d pick Lucas, Taeyong and Doyoung (I think they’re the most model-like members and could pull off pretty much anything even my non-edgy concept because I can’t do that lol and they pose very well) and then depending on the concept I’d pick between Winwin, Jaehyun, Kun, Jungwoo, Taeil, Haechan and Shotaro (the way I struggled to remember all the members at once…there are too many really)

Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Inherited Cancer Predisposition-Iris publishers

Introduction
There are no presently effective approaches to prevent the development of cancer in carries of cancer predisposing mutations, making preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) an attractive option for couples at risk to avoid the inheritance of cancer predisposing genes to their offspring [1-6]. The number of referrals for PGT of cancer has increased significantly after introduction of an expanding carrier screening, so the detected carries of cancer predisposing genes may now choose avoiding birth of a child with predisposition to varies cancers by utilizing PGT. Thus, the information on the practical utility of PGT for at risk couples should be available for couples with family history of cancer, so they could make their choices for carrier screening and PGT. Due to importance of such information for clinical practice, this paper will describe the present status of PGT for cancer predisposition, as a practical tool for avoiding the birth of children at risk for developing cancer, based on our experience since we performed the first case PGT for cancer in 1999 [1,7,8].
Material and Methods
A series of 874 PGT cycles for 484 couples (Table 1) at risk for producing a progeny with mutations predisposing to cancer was performed (list of gene mutations predisposing to cancer, for which PGT was performed is presented in (Table 1).
The most frequent were breast cancer (284 PGT Cycles), neurofibromatosis type I and type II (102 PGT cycles), familial adenomatous polyposis 1 (FAP1) and colorectal cancer (94 PGT cycles), and Fanconi anaemia (FA) (83 PGT cycles), with PGT for other cancers performed in 34 cycles or less (see Table 1).
PGT cycles were performed using a standard IVF protocol, coupled with micromanipulation procedures of polar bodies (PB) or embryo biopsy, described in detail elsewhere [9]. Details of PGT guidelines were reported previously (10-11). The present standards of the procedure involve whole genome amplification (WGA) of biopsied PBs or embryos biopsy samples, followed by multiplex nested PCR analysis of the mutations in question, together with closely linked genetic markers in a multiplex heminested system. The majority of cases are currently performed by blastocyst biopsy followed by WGA [6,9]. For each family, heterozygous alleles and haplotypes not shared by parents were selected. This allowed detecting and avoiding misdiagnosis due to preferential amplification and allele dropout (ADO), and a possible aneuploidy or uniparental disomy of chromosomes in which the tested mutations are located, which may affect diagnostic accuracy of PGT. In PGT cycles, involving an advanced reproductive age of maternal partner, aneuploidy testing was also performed by next generation technologies (NGS) (Illumina Inc) for 24-chromosome aneuploidy testing [12].
Results and Discussion
Table 1 presents our cumulative experience of 874 PGT cycles performed for 484 couples at risk for producing offspring with genetic predisposition to cancer, caused by 56 different genes. This is the largest series available for PGT of cancer, resulting in transfer of 966 cancer predisposition free embryos in 634 cycles (1.5 average embryos per transfer), yielding 387 (61%) clinical pregnancies and birth of 407 healthy children free of predisposing gene mutations and demonstrating the practical utility of PGT for cancer. The cancer predisposition, for which PGT has been performed, includes breast and ovarian cancer (BRCA I and II), Li-Fraumeni disease, Fanconi anaemia (FA), familial adenomatosis polyposis (FAP), familial colorectal cancer, hereditary nonpolyposis coli (HNPCC) (type 1 and 2), Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL), familial posterior fossa brain tumor (hSNF5), retinoblastoma (RB), neurofibromatosis 1 and 2 (NF1 and NF2), nevoid basal cell carcinoma (NBCCS) or Gorlin syndrome, tuberous sclerosis (TSC type 1 and type 2), ataxia telangiectasia, xeroderma pigmentosum-complimentary group G, exostosis multiple (EXT1 and EXT2), dyskeratosis congenital AD2/AD3/DKCX, gastric cancer, paragangliomas 5 (PGL5), Peutz- Jegher syndrome, multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN 1/2A/4) and pleuropulmonary blastoma (see the complete list in Table 1).

As mentioned, the most frequent indications for PGT were BRCA I and II. Of 284 PGT cycles performed for breast cancer, 280 embryos free of predisposing gene were detected for transfer in 199 cycles, resulting in birth of 134 children with no risk to develop breast cancer predisposed by these genes in their lifespan. Another most common indication for PGT was NF I and NF II, an autosomaldominant cancer caused by different mutations in the NFI and NFII genes. Of 102 PGT cycles performed for NF, 137 predisposition free embryos were selected for transfer in 87 cycles, resulting in birth of 54 children free from the risk of developing NF in their lifespan. The other large groups included FA (83 PGT cycles) and colorectal cancer (52 PGT cycles), resulting in birth of 44 children free from inherited predisposition to these cancers. As seen from Table 1, children with no risk to develop cancer in their lifespan was born in all but one PGT indications, suggesting a practical utility of PGT for cancer. Table 1 also presents our overall PGT experience for Mendelian disorders, comprising 558 different conditions, with the most frequent ones shifting from traditional single gene disorders to common conditions with genetic predisposition, such as cancer. As mentioned, risk of having offspring with severe lateonset common disorders caused by strong genetic predisposition is increasingly accepted indication for PGT-M. It is of note that the PGT referral spectrum has also changed, with current shift to direct referral through expanded carrier screening [13]. The reason of preference of PGT for genetic predisposition to common conditions, including cancer, in contrast to prenatal diagnosis is obvious, as prenatal diagnosis could lead to pregnancy termination that is not justified on the basis of genetic predisposition alone. On the other hand, choosing the embryos free of genetic predisposition to cancer would obviate the need for considering pregnancy termination, as only potentially normal pregnancies are established. PGT for cancer gained acceptability also on ethical grounds, because only a limited number of the embryos (presently only one) is selected for transfer. This may explain why the number of PGT requests for inherited predisposition for common late onset conditions, such as cancer, has been increasing overall. One of other possible reasons to request PGT for inherited cancer is that it may manifest even after surgery, such as in breast cancer, with PGT providing the only alternative for some at-risk couples to reproduce and avoid clinical termination of an affected fetus.
With accelerating progress in understanding the molecular basis of cancers, inherited cancer predispositions are becoming the major emerging PGT indication. Most of them are dominant and may be also secondary to germline mutations. A strong predisposition to many cancers is also determined by tumor suppressor genes, a major factor for genetic instability [14]. As seen from Table 1, cancer predisposition account already for 14% of all PGT-M cases, despite still remaining controversy, because cancers may present beyond early childhood and may even not be expressed in 100% of the cases. Despite extensive discussions of the ethical and legal issues involved in PGT for late-onset disorders with genetic predisposition, an increasing number of patients clearly regard the procedure not only as their preferable option but the only possible reason for forgoing the pregnancy [6,15,16]. Genetic counseling and oncologic services should inform patients at risk for these cancers that having children with genetic predisposition to cancers can be avoided through PGT. Options exist for couples who might have chosen to remain childless because of their concern to avoid prenatal diagnosis and possible pregnancy termination.
Presented results show that PGT is a realistic option for couples at risk for producing offspring at risk for developing cancer. In fact, the family history may alone provide the reason to test for presence of predisposing gene mutations to cancer and the need for PGT. This may be a life-saving procedure for the offspring of individuals carrying cancer predisposing genes. With future advances in identification of genes predisposing to inherited cancer, PGT might appear as a useful tool for couples at risk for producing offspring with inherited cancer.

Da quando ha conosciuto Etienne ha deciso di andare da uno psichiatra per combattere la depressione e la dipendenza e cambiare agenzia, così che avrebbe evitato di utilizzare droghe

Day 5, (Paris: Downtown; Montmartre, Opera, Galeries Lafayette, L'église de la Madeleine, Bir Hakeim ), 29-9-2019

My day started with raindrops on the roof window right above me, waking me up after a nice day I spent earlier. Looked down the street to realize it’s gonna be a very rainy day. Pointing out the irony, that was the day I planned to do my laundry. There was a laundry place near Islem’s, so I prepared my stuff. Islem shared his washing machine detergent to allow me to save money, Went down and it was slightly raining, the spiral staircase at Islem’s had a window view on the train tracks.

Started doing laundry, which cost me around 6 Euros, including both washing and drying. I gotta say having a close self-service laundry place near home is something we really miss in Egypt. The whole experience isn’t that bad, I’ve literally left my clothes to be washed and went out to have breakfast and then I came back to find it almost done. Spent some time for it to be dry then took it all home.

Started my day from Gare du Nord, that’s where I made an amazing discovery! You can get your photos printed in printing machines inside the station, which I later discovered it’s all over Paris, and the picture literally costed me 0.25 euro only!

Took the metro to Anvers to visit Montmartre, started my visit by Sacré-Cœur, which is a beautiful basilica on the top of a hill looking over Paris. This beautiful place was featured in one of my favorite French movies to date; Amélie.

As climbing up there tends to be quite a tiring experience, the view later can always be as calming as it looks. I always do nothing except sitting on the stair up there, and just stare at this to catch my breath.

One of the things that I’ve always wanted to capture is the sinking building of Montmartre. As I shared earlier, the basilica is on a higher land. And accordingly if you tilted your phone to the right or left aligning with the up-going hill, the building will pretty much look like this:

Here’s something quite obvious about the basilica; It gets bigger and more beautifully detailed the more you’re getting closer. I always tend to spend some time getting a lot of photos of the executive exterior.

And as much as it had a beautiful exterior, entering the building feels different. The Interior ceiling is high with some beautiful natural light, allowing you to feel calm and enjoy the scene.

I didn’t stay there for long to avoid the crowds arriving, and instead, treated myself with some Montmartre street-walking. It is absolutely one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris that truly captures a never-forgotten old city spirit.

Passing by some remarkable Montmartre landmarks like Le Consulat restaurant, which is an Iconic building that shapes most of the Montmartre pictures and paintings.

The neighborhood also contains a beautiful semi-spiral street showing the basilica in the background, leading the way to Buste de Dalida.

As an Egyptian, I’ve always been fascinated by Dalida. Her appreciation and devotion for the Egyptian culture, given the fact that she lived there for a while, didn’t make her any less French. She used to be a resident of Montmartre, and she’s memorized by a statue for her in the end of the above street.

And not very far from this place, her beautiful house is located.

The neighborhood also contains another location for another important residents; The Apartment of Theo Van Gogh, Vincent Van Gogh’s brother who always supported Vincent financially. This is also the place where Vincet Van Gogh stayed at in Paris. The two brothers shared an apartment on the third floor of this building from 1886 – 1888.

Last but not least, Moulin Rouge. One of the world's most famous Cabaret and show business venue, which has been running for more than a century.

I started moving from this neighborhood towards Galeries Lafayette via Metro. Galeries Lafayette is a very luxurious shopping mall right in front of the Paris Opera house, Palais Garnier. It contains most of the well known clothing brands with the latest fashion trends, all under one roof.

The mall features a free roof access to look at Pairs from a higher position, displaying a back view of the opera, Parisian buildings and Eiffel Tower in the horizon.

I proceeded to the opera entrance to get a shot of the Iconic golden figures featured at the building front, It’s obviously one of Paris’s fanciest neighborhoods.

I was originally heading to Le-Champs-Elysees, and on my way I was stopped by a very beautiful church, which I also wanted to visit the year before. L'église de la Madeleine is a church which was designed in its present form as a temple to the glory of Napoleon's army.

I entered and I was so lucky to find an ongoing choir for Mozart’s Requiem, performed by Nancy Ducale choir and orchestra. The echo caused by the choir singing is one of the indescribable feelings in the world, specially inside such a beautiful place like this one.

I remember I stayed there for like 20 minutes listening to this ongoing act, before I started moving to downtown. I passed by the Élysée Palace, the official residence of the President of France. Passing through Le Champs-Élysées, I started to get hungry and headed for my first economy option, McDonald’s. Fun Fact: In France, McDonald’s serves not only French Fries, but also wedges. The Meal roughly costs 8 euros, and it was a way to treat myself on after an exhausting walking tour in Paris.

I was later joined by Mohamed near Arc de Triumph and started heading towards Bir Hakeim. I told him there’s a surprising scene that I really wanted him to experience. Part of Metro line 6 crosses over the Seine, revealing a very beautiful panoramic view of Eiffel tower.

Leaving the station to capture Seine view near the bridge, couldn’t help but enjoy the symmetrical view of the bridge. It was wildly popular as it was featured in “Inception”

Pont Bir Hakeim is centered by La France Renaissante, a beautiful statue pointing towards the Seine, but when captured right, It can create a beautiful scene with Eiffel tower.

and since we were already on Île aux Cygnes, we took a walk literally in the middle of the river to reach one of the three versions of statue of liberty around Paris.

It was going really well until it started to rain heavily. I’ve never witnessed such heavy rains before my entire life. And Since no metro or bus stations were nearby due to the fact we’re isolated in the middle of the Seine, we had to walk under rain to the nearest bus station. And to make it worse, buses weren’t arriving on time so we stood there till a bus finally rescued us and luckily was heading towards Montmartre.
The rain stopped when we were on board, and we finally made it to Montmartre. I took some beautiful night shots for the Basilica and Moulin Rouge, then headed home.

I later jumped on the Metro and headed home to rest after that heavy rain and exhausting day around the city, Islem luckily offered to order Pizza for both of us, which I remember was really delicious! I ate it and Immediately felt the need to rest.
Day 103rd of quarantine: Containing your sanity with an ongoing repetitive patterns can easily make you go mad. Now I understand how scientists, authors and writers might perform really well when they’re isolated, but accordingly lose some of their sanity or the way they deal with life in general. I’m none of the above of course, I’m just a normal human being who’s disappointed of how I’m taking this. The worst thing about the COVID-19 isolation is leaving me to my thoughts and who I truly am. Everything I’m feeling when I’m alone is a reflection to thoughts I’ve always chose not to see, to hanging problems or issues I’ve always delayed for 29 years of my life.
Every past midnight thought is another reason for me to doubt, fix and learn. I’ve been doing these reflections for quite a while, tried fixing and confronting but that wasn’t easy. It took me some courage to understand the worst about myself, and the value I’m not recognizing at the same time.
I’m writing this on June 27th, 2020. I’m in the worst state of mind in months, and I’m trying to survive my own thoughts. The repetitive patterns are killing me.
I want to feel alive again.

As the second-born son of the royal couple, D. Luís embarked on a naval career, having been named the square of the Companhia dos Guardas Marinhas and recognized in a ceremony at the Navy Arsenal on October 28, 1846, when he was only 8 years old.

He was to be successively promoted to second lieutenant (1851), captain-lieutenant (1854), captain-of-frigate (1858) and captain-of-the-sea-and-war (1859). He had his first naval command in September 1857, at brig Pedro Nunes, on which he made a cruise on the coast of Portugal and a trip to Gibraltar. He was appointed, by brother D. Pedro V, commander of the corvette Bartolomeu Dias, on June 21, 1858.

At the command of Bartolomeu Dias, he came to carry out nine service missions between the years 1858 and 1860: he led the expedition to the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores; was responsible for transporting Prince Jorge of Saxony

D. Luís inherited the crown in November 1861, succeeding his brother D. Pedro V for not leaving any descendants, and was acclaimed king on December 22 of the same year. On September 27 of the following year, he married, by proxy, with D. Maria Pia de Sabóia, daughter of King Vitor Emanuel II of Italy. As an infant he served in the navy, visiting Portuguese Africa. He exercised his first naval command in 1858.
Luís was a cultured man with a polite education, like all his brothers. Of great artistic sensitivity, he painted, composed and played cello and piano. Polyglot, he spoke some European languages ​​correctly. Translated works by William Shakespeare.
In 1869 he did not want to be monarch of Spain and made a point of making it very clear both to the Council of Ministers, chaired by the Duke of Loulé, and to the Portuguese people. Two days after his patriotic letter was published in the Government Gazette, it was time for publication in the Diário de Notícias, thus serving the Casa Real to deny the rumor that there would be abdication: "I was born Portuguese, Portuguese I want to die", proclaimed D Luís, on the first page of the DN on September 28, 1869. D. Luís, if he accepted the Spanish crown, he would have to abdicate in Portugal to D. Carlos, the son of only 6 years old, with D. Fernando II as regent, opening the possibility of a Iberian Union in the medium term. After the refusal of D. Luís the Spanish throne was handed over to Amadeu de Saboia.

During his reign and, as a result of the creation of the general consumption tax, which public opinion received badly, the mutiny that was called Janeirinha (in late 1867) originated. Also on May 19, 1870, there was a military revolt, promoted by Marshal Duque da Saldanha

In colonial affairs, Delagoa Bay was confirmed as a Portuguese possession in 1875, whilst Belgian activities in the Congo (1880s) and a British Ultimatum in 1890 denied Portugal a land link between Portuguese Angola and Portuguese Mozambique at the peak of the Scramble for Africa.
Fertile in events, it is during the reign of D. Luís I that some of the Portuguese political parties are founded: the Reformist Party (1865), which came to power in 1868, the Portuguese Socialist Party (1875), with the name of Partido Operário Socialista , and the Progressive Party (1876), which comes to power in 1879. In 1883, the Congress of the Republican Party Organizing Committee takes place. At the end of its reign, the Republican Party is already presenting itself as a perfectly structured political force.
D. Luís was mainly a man of the sciences, with a passion for oceanography. He invested much of his fortune in financing scientific projects and oceanographic research boats, which traveled the oceans in search of specimens. He successfully practiced photography.

Luís followed in the footsteps of his mother - D. Maria II, ordering the construction and founding of cultural associations. On June 1, 1871, D. Luís was in Seixal (a village founded by his mother), to witness the founding of Sociedade Philharmonic Union Seixalense. That same day the Franco-Prussian War ended.
He died, after a long suffering, in the citadel of Cascais, on October 19, 1889, a few days before his 51st birthday. His son D. Carlos succeeded him, under the name of D. Carlos I of Portugal. It lies in the Royal Pantheon of the Bragança Dynasty, in the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, in Lisbon.

On 6 October 1862, Luís married Princess Maria Pia of Savoy (16 October 1847 – 5 July 1911), daughter of Victor Emmanuel II of Italy and Maria Adelaide of Austria. They both had a deep love at first, but Luis's countless mistresses led Maria Pia to depression. Together they had two sons who survived childhood, and a stillborn son in 1866.
