BOTD: California Scrub-Jay
Photo: Wendy Miller
"This is the 'blue jay' of parks, neighborhoods, and riverside woods near the Pacific Coast. Pairs of California Scrub-Jays are often seen swooping across clearings, giving harsh calls, with their long tails flopping in flight. They readily come to backyard bird feeders. Until recently, this jay was considered part of the same species as the Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay; the two were officially 'split' in July 2016."

So based for being a lover of scrub jays. I love them too
scrub jays are everything to me, you have no idea. they are such goofy, wonderful little guys. i grew up with a pretty sizeable local flock of them and honestly at this point im like you know Scrub Jays, My Dear Friend Scrub Jays
Also if you talk to them while you're out they start recognizing you and let you approach them to get really nice pics like this
Photos all by me, of California Scrub-Jay's (Aphelocoma californica)

Western scrub jay (Aphelocoma californica)
Grand Canyon Arizona • September 2023
Western scrub jays have a mix of colors. Their heads, wings, and tails are vibrant blue, their backs are grey, and their bellies and throats are light grey to white. They have a prominent dark spot around the eye, and no crest.
