#Assault Weapons Ban

Militia groups from several states were plotting to send snipers to the border to shoot border patrol agents. The shootings would be then blamed on immigrants and Mexico with the hopes of starting a foreign war, civil war, or both.
So far the only reason we haven’t devolved into civil war is because MAGAts are dumb as a bag of rocks. We can’t count on it being that way forever. Sooner or later these deranged Trump supporters will assassinate a political rival, knock out a major power station, or cause a mass causality event.
We need federal anti-militia laws now. We can’t have oligarch warlords running around with right-wing agendas and private armies equipped with military hardware. This is a disaster waiting to happen and one that China, Russia, and bad actors in the Middle East are attempting to organize and fund.

Anyone talking about an assault ban should ask the question: "Is well-regulated mentioned in the 2nd amendment?"
Then ask: "Is an amendment a change to the Constitution?"

Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked efforts by Senate Democrats to pass an assault weapons ban and universal background checks legislation after the United States over the weekend broke the record for the most mass shootings in a single year.
Republican Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) objected to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) request for unanimous consent to pass the assault weapons ban, despite the pleas of Democratic senators who took to the Senate floor to cite the harrowing statistics of gun violence in America.
“The scourge of gun violence in America is a national crisis. The American people are sick and tired of enduring one mass shooting after another. They’re sick and tired of vigil and moments of silence for family, friends, classmates, coworkers,” Schumer argued on the Senate floor.
The assault weapons ban, originally sponsored by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), would ban semiautomatic rifles with pistol grips, forward grips and folding or telescoping stocks, as well as rifles outfitted with grenade launchers, barrel shrouds or threaded barrels to allow for noise and flash suppressors to be attached.
But Barrasso argued that the Democratic-drafted bill would infringe on the Second Amendment and deprive law-abiding gun owners of an important liberty.
“Americans have a constitutional right to own a firearm. Every day, people across Wyoming responsibly use their Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms,” he said. “Democrats are demanding that the American people give up their liberty.”
He said that Democrats are trying to ban many types of semiautomatic firearms “because of the way they look.”
He asserted that popular rifles such as AR-15s “work the same way as popular shotguns and other rifles used for hunting and personal protection.”
“The Second Amendment is freedom’s essential safeguard. Without it, there can be no liberty and there can be no security. So Mr. President, I object.”
Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy (Conn.) later stood up on the floor to ask for unanimous consent to pass legislation to require universal background checks for firearms purchases.
“We don’t have more mental illness in this country, we don’t spend less money on law enforcement, we don’t have angrier people, we have more guns, and we are much more permissive in this country about allowing felons, dangerous people, to get their hands on guns,” he said.
A Gallup poll conducted in June 2022 found that 92% of Americans favor requiring background checks for all firearm sales.
“This just feels like a test of democracy. It really does. Like, how does democracy survive if 90% of Americans, 90% of Republicans, 90% of Democrats want something, and we can’t deliver it?” Murphy asked before he asked for unanimous consent to pass the background checks bill.
Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee took to the floor immediately to object.
“I want to note at the outset we’re not asked to vote in this chamber on polling questions. We vote on legislation,” he said.
He said the legislation to expand background checks “has some real problems with it.”
“This is not solely about transactions involving guns at gun stores. This is about the father who wishes to pass down a hunting rifle to his son or the friend who wants to lend a shotgun to his neighbor who is in need of protection at the time,” Lee said before objecting to Murphy’s request.

The Illinois legislature passed an assault weapons ban earlier this year. On Friday the Illinois Supreme Court upheld that ban.
The Illinois Supreme Court has rejected a challenge to the state’s ban on assault weapons, meaning that law will stay in effect statewide. In a 4-3 decision issued Friday morning, the high court overturned a lower court’s ruling, stating the ban is constitutional and does not “deny equal protection nor constitute special legislation.” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he was “pleased” with the ruling Friday and called it a win for “advocates, survivors, and families alike because it preserves this nation-leading legislation to combat gun violence and save countless lives.” “This is a commonsense gun reform law to keep mass-killing machines off of our streets and out of our schools, malls, parks, and places of worship,” he said in a statement. “Illinoisans deserve to feel safe in every corner of our state—whether they are attending a Fourth of July Parade or heading to work—and that’s precisely what the Protect Illinois Communities Act accomplishes.”
The law is not retroactive and those who legally bought such guns before the law went into effect can keep them. The differentiation between existing ownership and new ownership was the basis for the suit which SCOIL ruled on.
“To the extent plaintiffs allege they already possess restricted items, plaintiffs may retain them but may not acquire more, which matches the restrictions placed on those who are grandfathered under the Act,” the court wrote in its ruling. “The statutes treat plaintiffs who already possess assault weapons and LCMs the same as the grandfathered individuals.”
There will probably be other attempts to overturn the Illinois law. The Illinois assault weapons ban may very well end up before the US Supreme Court. A SCOTUS ruling against the Illinois law in an election year could set off a firestorm similar to what happened after the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision last year.
The assault weapons law would not have been possible without a Democratic trifecta in Illinois.
After decades of treating state government like a poor cousin, Democrats in many states have taken a renewed interest in that level of governance. Michigan Democrats gained a trifecta in Michigan for the first time in over 35 years with the 2022 elections and passed a remarkable series of reforms in 100 days.
So good things happen when people get more involved in state politics. As I like to remind people, the first step is to find out who represents you in your state legislature. This site makes it easy to find that out...

Take a look at the names on the invitation. Among the notable figures are oligarchs Robert Mercer, Kelly Loeffler, Wilbur Ross, and Steve Wynn.
Mercer is the personal financier of Ted Cruz and gives him blank checks for each of his campaigns. He also bankrolls Breitbart and Cambridge Analytica. He’s openly racist and advocates turning the clock back to the 1950’s. He says most Americans would survive a nuclear war and the atomic bombing of Japan was advantageous for them and has made them healthier.
He has spent tens of millions fighting all gun laws in the US and helps fund the NRA. Mercer also owns the largest private machine gun collection in the Americas. When not sailing on his 203 ft yacht he strolls New Mexico with a gun and a badge as a “volunteer policeman.”
He bought a company that provides guns to movies moved it to NYC where it became a gun dealership. He procures arms from international arms dealers, some for sale but most being stockpiled for purposes unspoken. He has even procured for himself a MK-19 40mm automatic grenade launcher that is manufactured for the US military. He has his own secretive ‘’military compound” where he shoots his military weaponry and conducts other legally sketchy activities. Most of the deranged right-wing billionaires you see in the movies are loosely based on him.
People like this should not be allowed to exert influence over the government or the economy to say the least. If you read between the lines he’s prepping for a two things: 1. a hostile coup to take over the country and 2. the apocalypse that all right-wing fanatics are trying to instigate.
Google Robert Mercer and see how far gone this deranged right-wing extremist is.

Alec Baldwin to be charged!
No doubt about it, the far right is at least as insane as the far left!
Alec Baldwin in to be charged, the far right will dance & cheer and it will burn them down later.
See, this is effectively stating that there’s no such thing as a gun accident. If anyone has an accident, they are a felon who is going to prison, will lose their right to vote and their right the bear arms.
You think the right wing is going to like that? Hmm?
Because nobody is disputing the facts as we had learned previously:
Alec Baldwin was handed a gun. He was told the gun was “Cold,” that there weren’t any blank cartridges in it, never mind live rounds.
This gun was loaded with “Duds,” so to speak:  They look exactly like regular bullets but contain no gunpowder, no primer. This is what was supposed to be in the gun, “Duds.”
This gun was loaded with these “Duds” specifically because the front of the gun was to be seen on camera, so they had to load it with something to make it look real.
Alec Baldwin could have checked & checked & checked & checked all day and that gun could not have looked dangerous to him. Or, more specifically, it looked EXACTLY like it was supposed to look. He was 100% dependent upon what he was told.
Finally, the front of the gun was supposed to be on camera.
So who was at fault? Ultimately, whoever placed live rounds in with what were supposed to be “Duds.”
Whoever provided that ammunition is guilty of negligence. And if the supplier was different from the armorer, the armorer on set is responsible. It’s their job. They are hired to do these things.
So the idiot far right is going to be hap, hap, HAPPY about Baldwin being charged with a crime, because they invented Cancel Culture in the first place and are hungry to get some canceling done, but it’s setting the bar on themselves *Way* higher than they are going to like, just as soon as they nail Baldwin.
Shootings on set are not unprecedented. Charging the actor is.
By definition, any and all accidental shootings involve a gun pointing at someone, so from here on in all accidents are felonies.
What about those negligent folks whose guns are stolen?
What of those negligent folks who sell their guns to people who turn around and use them in a crime?
You know, you may keep the constitutional right to own a gun but, with your hard work, it’s going to be a crime to use it, even accidentally, if even if it’s not you but someone else using your gun...
Congratulations.
