from november 2023 to may 2024 at villa caffarelli, part of the capitoline museums, an exhibit entirely dedicated to phidias, the famous sculptor behind the parthenon and the chrysoelephantine colossi of the athena parthenos and zeus of olympia.
the exhibit is composed of a selection of more than 100 works, from archaeological finds to paintings and manuscripts narrating the life and work of the artisan, with the support of reconstructions, multimedia installations and digital content.
the exhibition is the first of a series of five exhibitions, "i grandi maestri della grecia antica". in addition with the artworks coming from museums in rome and other italian institutions, the exhibit contains some extraordinary loans, items that have never left their museum premises, as for example two fragments from the parthenon frieze, from the acropolis museum in athens.
so today in our botany class, our lecturer was teaching us about the types of fruits. and one of the types is called 'parthenocarpic' which means, the fruit is formed without fertilization taking place (basically the fruit is formed without plant sex lol) and GUESS WHAT? I GOT REMINDED OF ATHENA PARTHENOS. parthenocarpic.... parthenos.... sounds similar? and athena was born from the brain of zeus right??? without sex?? CRAZY.
Remember some of Hazel’s first chapters? When she talks about how she admires Percy the most out of the other demigods and feels like she disappointed both him and Annabeth when she couldn’t help them from falling into Tartarus?
Baby Sister: No!!! Hazel… She did her best. She’s like their little sister! *proceeds to cry*
Also, she did not like what Hecate had to say about Percy and Annabeth dying regardless of what choice Hazel made. Or that Leo could potentially be falling through the clouds (which of course does happen. ‘Cause… Plot and Calypso.)
Anyways, she loves the book so far and we ended with her being introduced to Bob. I’m honestly not ready for that part again… 😭

blood of olympus but instead of nearly dying trying to carry the statue, nico, reyna and hedge leave the real athena parthenos in greece (where it belongs), shadow travel to nashville, get the replica, and return to camp half-blood /j

i wish we lived in a world where each bg3 companion had a specific physique and height. i can't pretend thinking that all the guys are ripped and all the girls are skinny isn't doing mental damage to me
