Warriors Orochi: The Recollective Redux Part 5.3: Samurai Warriors Story B

Nobunaga’s had his fun now. With an army, he managed to work together with Shingen and Kenshin to defeat Orochi. But now, let’s see how one man can unite three clans together to respond to a new threat…

Chapter 9: Battle of Luosang Village 楼桑村の戦い

Sakon Shima walks in a village. He decides to visit Shingen Takeda, but he sees an explosion up ahead. Dong Zhuo is attacking the Yellow Turbans led by Zhang Jiao. As Zhang Jiao cowers in fear, Sakon jumps in to save the day…

Following the defeat of Orochi, numerous skirmishes continued to break out across the land. Lu Bu, Masamune Date and Cao Cao all mobilised their armies in an attempt to seize power. On top of all this, Dong Zhuo suddenly made a play for power. Sakon Shima had to face Dong Zhuo’s army and rescue Zhang Jiao…

The Zhang Jiao Army 張角軍 is known as the Yellow Turbans 黄巾党 in this version.

Defeat Goemon and Dong Zhuo’s troops to rescue the Yellow Turban officers. Additional troops will arrive to assist them.

A mysterious man will arrive to assist Zhang Jiao. If Sakon reaches the man, he will only introduce himself as a friend. Defeat Dong Zhuo to win the battle.

In the aftermath, Zhang Jiao will thank Sakon for his “miracle from the heavens”. Sakon asks Zhang Jiao if he knows the mysterious man, but Zhang Jiao does not.

Sakon will comment that they are heavily outnumbered compared to the other armies in the land. Officers such as Musashi Miyamoto, Toyohisa Shimazu, Yoshihiro Shimazu, Xu Huang, Kanbei Kuroda, Huang Zhong, Guan Ping and Muneshige Tachibana will join him.

Chapter 10: Battle of Ji Province 冀州の戦い (uses DW5 Yellow Turban map)

Coalition Army vs. Da Ji Army Allied characters: Xu Huang, Musashi Miyamoto, Muneshige Tachibana, Zhang Jiao Enemy characters: Da Ji, Himiko, Kojirō Sasaki, Hisahide Matsunaga

Unlocked characters: Yukimura Sanada, Shingen Takeda, Kojirō Sasaki

Dong Zhuo and his army were left with no choice but to retreat. As Sakon went to visit Shingen, he wondered if the mysterious man from the last battle was driving him towards something.

Sakon comments that they need the assistance of Shingen, Kenshin and Nobunaga to defeat Orochi. He decides to start by talking with Shingen. In the meantime, Xu Huang and Musashi are attacked while they are training. They find Da Ji, along with a mysterious girl…

After defeating Kojirō Sasaki at the eastern altar, enemy ambush troops will appear at the central altar or in the southeastern area depending on where you go. Hisahide Matsunaga will appear in the opposite area as reinforcements.

When Himiko arrives in the south, Muneshige Tachibana will appear in place of Gao Sheng to stop her, but she will escape to the west as enemy reinforcements arrive to assist her (instead of later on in the original). As Himiko arrives in the west, however, Zhang Jiao will appear in place of He Yi to stop her. Defeat Da Ji and Himiko to win the battle.

In the aftermath, Kojirō will join Musashi and Xu Huang. Meanwhile, Sakon meets with Shingen, who agrees to lend assistance to him.

Chapter 11: Rescue at Hasedō 長谷堂救出戦

Coalition Army and Naoe Army vs. Sun Wukong Army Allied characters: Sakon Shima, Yukimura Sanada, Kojirō Sasaki Third-party characters: Kanetsugu Naoe, ??? → Fu Xi Enemy characters: Sun Wukong, Diamondback, Kotarō Fūma

Sakon tells Shingen that he is also asking for help from Kenshin. Yukimura Sanada will report that Kanetsugu Naoe is under attack from forces unknown. Shingen suggests to Sakon that this is a wonderful opportunity. Sakon heads out with Yukimura.

Kojirō Sasaki will appear in place of Zhang Jiao in this battle.

When Sakon reaches Kanetsugu in the flaming forest, the mysterious man from Luosang Village will arrive to reveal that the fire is an illusion. He reveals the position of the sorcerers causing it. Defeat them to extinguish the fire. The man will introduce himself as Fu Xi. He also states that Sun Wukong is also from the mystic realm like himself, working for a half-man, half-demon, Kiyomori Taira, to recruit troops for his army. Their plan is to revive Orochi.

Break through the northern gate out of the forest and defeat Sun Wukong to win the battle.

In the aftermath, Kanetsugu takes Sakon to Kenshin. He agrees to join Sakon along with the others. Fu Xi also complements Sakon for uniting the Takeda and Uesugi, saying that he is the one who can stop Orochi’s resurrection. He also joins Sakon as atonement for “testing” him.

Chapter 12: Battle of Changban 長坂の戦い

Coalition Army vs. Date-Da Ji Army Allied characters: Shingen Takeda, Kanetsugu Naoe Enemy characters: Masamune Date, Da Ji, Motonari Mōri, Keiji Maeda, Kojūrō Katakura, Takakage Kobayakawa

Sakon suggests having Masamune join his army along with Nobunaga. However, Kanetsugu believes that Masamune is still loyal to Orochi. Sakon decides to have Shingen set off for Changban in order to convince Masamune to join them.

Motonari Mōri will appear in place of Sima Yi in this battle and therefore, will not be unlocked when the battle is cleared in this version. Takakage Kobayakawa will appear in place of Dōkyū Yamagami in the ambush unit alongside Kojūrō Katakura.

In the aftermath, Shingen talks to Masamune, but he declines the offer, saying that no one has been able to keep the peace since Orochi’s death. Shingen gives the bad news to Sakon, who then remembers that there is someone that they can ask. Kanetsugu reports that Lu Bu and Kiyomori have joined forces and are laying waste to the men of Wu. Huang Zhong, Yoshihiro and Kanbei offer to assist them.

Chapter 13: Battle of Liang Province 涼州の戦い

Coalition Army and Lu Meng Army vs. Lu Bu Army Allied characters: Kanbei Kuroda, Yoshihiro Shimazu, Huang Zhong Third-party characters: Lu Meng, Gan Ning Enemy characters: Lu Bu, Sun Wukong, Diaochan, Chen Gong, Lu Lingqi

Lu Bu and Kiyomori had joined forces to attack Liang Province, which was being defended by the warriors of Wu. Kanbei set off to Liang Province along with two veteran warriors to save the Wu Army, for if they were rescued, their assistance could be procured.

Kanbei Kuroda appears in place of Sima Yi for this battle. Han Dang will be replaced by another Wu generic officer when reinforcements arrive.

Lu Lingqi and Hou Cheng will appear with Chen Gong’s reinforcements when they arrive.

In the aftermath, Lu Meng and Gan Ning will join Sakon’s army on behalf of Wu.

Chapter 14: Battle of Hulao Gate 虎牢関の戦い

Coalition Army and Toyotomi Army vs. Taira Army Allied characters: Katsuyori Takeda, Sakon Shima, Guan Ping, Toyohisa Shimazu Third-party characters: Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Nene, Masanori Fukushima, Kiyomasa Katō, Hanbei Takenaka, Mitsunari Ishida Enemy characters: Kiyomori Taira, Diamondback, Sun Wukong, Hisahide Matsunaga

Sakon moved to the next phase of his plan. He set off with Guan Ping and Toyohisa Shimazu to gain the cooperation of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. They spot Kiyomori and Dong Zhuo up ahead at Hulao Gate.

As I stated previously, Nobunaga Oda originally appeared in both the Wei and Samurai Warriors stories for Part B, which is illogical and it robs Mitsunari Ishida of any relevance; in addition, it also robs Hideyoshi Toyotomi of prominence as he was only seen in the original games as an underling of Nobunaga. As such, Nobunaga and Nō only appear in the Wei story, leaving Hideyoshi and Mitsunari for the Samurai Warriors story.

Zhang Ren does not appear in this battle. Toyohisa Shimazu and Yoshihisa Shimazu will swap places in this battle, meaning the former will be defending the main camp alongside Guan Ping while the latter advances with Sakon.

The Hōjō officers among the enemy are replaced by Mōri officers and Hisahide Matsunaga will appear in place of Dong Zhuo.

When the Toyotomi Army arrives, Mitsunari Ishida, Masanori Fukushima and Kiyomasa Katō will appear alongside Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Nene and Hanbei Takenaka.

In the aftermath, Hideyoshi joins Sakon’s army. Sakon asks him to assist Mitsunari and Kenshin at Baidi Castle.

Chapter 15: Battle of Baidi Castle 白帝城の戦い

Coalition Army vs. Taira Army Allied characters: Kenshin Uesugi, Kagekatsu Uesugi, Aya, Mitsunari Ishida, Masanori Fukushima, Kiyomasa Katō, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Nene, Hanbei Takenaka, Hideie Ukita, Muneshige Tachibana, Lu Meng, Gan Ning Enemy characters: Kiyomori Taira, Sun Wukong, Dong Zhuo, Kotarō Fūma

The alliance to prevent the resurrection of Orochi was finally complete. In response, Kiyomori quietly concentrated his forces at Baidi Castle. Believing that Kiyomori was now attempting to revive Orochi, Sakon immediately ordered Hideyoshi and Kenshin to attack Baidi Castle…

Kenshin, Kagekatsu and Aya will advance to Baidi Castle from the east, Mitsunari, Masanori and Kiyomasa will advance from the south and Hideyoshi, Nene and Hanbei will advance from the west. Muneshige Tachibana, Lu Meng and Gan Ning will appear as the ambush troops engaging Dong Zhuo’s officers in the central path to the northwest.

Defeat Kiyomori to win the battle, but he will say that it is too late…

In the aftermath, Sakon is depressed over his failure to prevent Orochi’s resurrection, but Fu Xi convinces Sakon to put his final plan in place to defeat Orochi. Shingen accepts Sakon’s offer to join him again on the battlefield.

Chapter 16: Battle of Sekigahara 関ヶ原の戦い

Coalition Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Shingen Takeda, Sakon Shima, Fu Xi Enemy characters: Orochi X, Da Ji, Masamune Date, Kojūrō Katakura, Hisahide Matsunaga, Motonari Mōri, Takakage Kobayakawa

Unlocked characters: Kiyomori Taira

Some variations have been made for the Chapter 16 battles against Orochi X. In each faction’s version, they will fight four of Orochi’s main generals. In this version of the battle, those generals will be Da Ji, Masamune Date, Hisahide Matsunaga and Motonari Mōri.

Orochi had been resurrected and was surrounded by Da Ji and Masamune. The final battle lay ahead at Sekigahara…

Hisahide Matsunaga will appear in place of Keiji Maeda with his sneak attack unit in the northwest. At the same time, Motonari Mōri and Takakage Kobayakawa will also appear with their sneak attack unit in the centre. Due to the fog around Sekigahara, both sneak attack units will reveal themselves as they approach the main camp.

Defeat Da Ji and the officers outside the enemy camp, then enter the camp and defeat Orochi X to win the battle.

I redownload SW5 for giving it another chance. I played for one stage then uninstalled it. I really want to love the game but I can’t. This is my least favorite musou game. The artwork & the stages are beautiful. The OSTs are great. They cut so many characters (all my favs except Hanbei were cut). The story writing is a mess. The new depiction for returning characters makes them become boring or awful like they turned Kenshin into Kanetsugu 2.0 and Katsuie downgrade into Oichi’s bodyguard (except Yoshimoto, Hanzo, Nagamasa, Toshiie and Hanbei, and maybe Nō and Oichi). The new characters not interesting for me, not enough for making them into my favorite, like when Yoshitsugu & Kojūro when SW4 came out. Shikanosuke & surprisingly Mitsuki, are good addition. I’m alright with Toshimitsu & Sena. Yasuke has potentials but the developers wasted him. I wish we can see how Yasuke adjust with the Japanese cultures and trying to understand the Oda officers, especially Nobunaga so he can interacted well with them. I really don’t like Kazuuji & Sandayu. They should be erased from existence. Some of the playable “UNPC”s are fine like Asakura, Dosan and his son I forget his name. I’m happy they also bring back Katsuyori. Takakage’s brothers, Mitsubuchi, and the Okabe guy are not needed. I wish Yoshiaki Ashikaga were like evil Liu Shan, act innocent and weak, always put fake smile, but actually a great schemer and manipulator. They already cut so many characters but they also clone the movesets!? I understand DW9 have clones movesets because they have over 90 characters. But SW5 with less than 40 characters? This makes the game more boring.

I won’t touch SW5 anymore until they released SW5-II and Tsuneoki Ikeda & Yoshinari Mori become new characters, or they bring back Ranmaru, Gracia, Masayuki, Ujiyasu, Aya, Nene & Naotora (just erased her sumimasen gimmick please). I’m really sad I cannot love the game like SW1-SW4.

For the ship rating, what would you think of Aya x Nō, Kanetsugu x Mitsunari and Kunoichi x Sasuke? :)

Aya and Nō would be an inferno. A total disaster, but oh so fun. Aya cools off that hell that Nō finds herself living in. She won't confess it, but she feels a bit of relief. Aya wakes up to see Nō with a knife at her throat. She laughs and says "ah, so the knife you were to kill Nobunaga with is to kill me? Using me like a replacement...is that all I am to you, lady butterfly?" She'll laugh, Aya is unfazed by any of Nō's murderous intentions

hmm... Kanetsugu and Mitsunari..they seem to have been closer in the second game, so I'll go by that, (it appears that in subsequent games, Kanetsugu is closer to Yukimura). I don't mind this pairing, but I'm more partial to Mitsunari and Sakon, I could see it happening

Kunoichi and Sasuke, well, it's certainly better than Kuno and Yukimura, which thanks to Spirit of Sanada, creeps me out. I liked their character interactions, I think it works

~~Story Begins~~

The lingering scent of gunpowder, smoke, and blood flew into the light spring breeze as the leaves danced into the Uesugi camp in a swirl of reds and oranges. The cries of worried Pokemon partners, families, and wounded soldiers filled the otherwise silent night where they would otherwise be asleep in preparation for the busy day tomorrow.

In one of the tents saved for the wounded, an Alakazam watched in worry as his partner helped tended to the wounded soldiers, ignoring their own serious injuries, especially the deep gash he had quickly bandaged so no one would notice his side bleeding.

“I can sense your worry, my friend,” Alakazam’s partner said. “I will take care of my wound once the seeds have been planted for the harvest season. A lot of our farmers were caught in this battle with the Oda forces and they will need all of the help they can get.”

Alakazam nodded its head. It did love its human partner and shared its views of righteous and justice. It was how its human trained him since he was a small Abra, but he still worried over his human. The psychic pokemon could already tell that the wound was taking its toll on him, but if left untreated, it’s going to get infected. 

“Lord Kanetsuga,” a peasant said as they entered the wounded tent. “I know it has been a long night for our soldiers and our lords, but we could use the help in getting our crops planted.”

The peasant bowed as he continued to talk. “We understand if you cannot help us this season as you fought extremely valiantly in the battlefield and helped take care of the wounded.”

Kanetsuga laughed. “Nonsense, my friend,” he said with a laugh. “I would be more than happy to help with the harvest season again. We must cheer up the spirits of the people as well as it is a time to celebrate! Just allow me a few minutes before I join.”

“Of course, thank you so much Lord Kanetsugu,” the peasant said before leaving.

Alakazam looked at its partner who had already lost some color. It raised its concern in its heart and Kanetsuga could feel it. He patted Alakazam's head with a weak smile. “Don’t worry, once the planting is done, I’ll take care of the wound and then sleep. You go ahead and get some rest. You worked just as hard as I did during the battle and must be exhausted.”

Alakazam watched its partner leave the tent as the dawn’s early rays started to break through the night. The pokemon left the tent and proceeded to head to its human’s private tent.

The sun has risen a few times and something was wrong back in Illusion Froslass and her human partner could sense it as they returned from their training in Avia. They had heard about the Oda forces invading from Cragspur to Illusio, but Kanetsuga had defended it bravely. 

“How interesting,” Aya said. “Kanetsuga would have been at the entrance with a report over the month’s events. He’s not in sight and neither is his Alakazam.”

Her Frolass let out a hum of questioning.

“Maybe the unsuspecting warlord of Aurora moved him to a different kingdom,” Aya said and shook her head. “No. They have been strategic in making sure that someone who is originally from the kingdom and knows the terrain stays there.”

“Lady Aya,” a messenger said as he ran up to her. “I’m sorry for the delay, but I have the report.”

“Where is Kanetsugu?” Aya said. “It is unusual for him to relay on a messenger when my dear brother or myself return.”

The messenger looked nervous. “He is currently unable to, Lady Aya. That’s what my report is about.”

“Oh? He has been known to get sidetracked with helping around Illusion, but he never forgets when we are scheduled to return,” Aya said.

The messenger shook his head. “Lady Aya, Lord Kanetsuga is currently running a dangerous high fever. The doctors are unsure if he will make it through another month.”

“Lead me to him,” Aya said in the chill tone of voice that was usually reserved for Lady No. 

“Yes, ma’am,” the messenger said, “but as a warning, he hasn’t been very conscious or audible in what he’s saying.”

When Aya reached his private quarters and walked inside, she instantly knew this was going to be a tough battle. Alakazam looked up at her from his spot by Kanetsuga’s side, his powers were still working on changing the bandages on the wound that was infected with puss leaking out.

“You have been doing a good job of taking care of your partner by yourself,” Aya said. “Get some rest. Frolass and I will help.”

Aya would not let anyone know that she was slightly pleased when Kanetsuga leaned his head into her chilled hands when she placed them on his sweaty forehead or that the happy hum he let out was as adorable as her Frolass.

Maybe when Ransei is finally united as one country and the war is over, maybe she will tease Kanetsugu about this. Then maybe she could convince her brother to nudge Kanetsugu to act on his feelings for her, but with a war where Nobunga has no problems exploiting weaknesses, and No taunting her about beauty whenever they are in each other’s presence, she can only enjoy these little moments. Until then, she will enjoy these moments where they can be themselves with their pokemon and not have to worry about expectations.

Night fell over Illusio as it always had. Inky indigo gently faded into the golden transience of twilight, silvery stars peeking out to frolic with the purple crystals that set the kingdom aglow with a wash of gentle light.

Within the castle, Aya sat alone in a quiet room, letting the chill wind blow in through the window and kiss her cheeks until they pinked sweetly under their relentless affections. She gazed out into the kingdom, watching the dark shapes of their people as they returned to their homes for the evening. Many of them held lanterns to light their way, the elegant paper constructs flickering lavender in the fading light. Her icy, warm gaze turned to the energy that had gathered closer to the castle, and she couldn’t help the fond smile that passed over her lips.

People were swarming all over the path that led to the castle, setting up shop and carting miscellaneous what-nots to and from the various stalls that were in different degrees of completion. With the winter solstice festival only a week away, everyone was trying their best to complete their preparations in time, if only to share the holiday cheer with everyone when the day finally arrived.

Aya barely moved from her spot when she heard the door slide open behind her, the soft patter of socked feet making its way into the room. She heard a quiet chuckle, and lifted her fingers to hide her smile.

“I had a feeling you’d be here.”

Kanetsugu made his way over to her, stopping just behind her. “May I?” he asked, waiting quietly for her permission.

“As you wish, my dearest.” Aya shifted aside a little, opening a spot by the window for Kanetsugu to make himself comfortable. He thanked her for the invitation, settling into the spot in his quiet, elegant manner.

“Looking over the preparations for the festival?” he inquired politely, following her line of sight. The two watched as one of the stall owners hoisted a wooden beam over her shoulder, only to yell in surprise when her accompanying Gardevoir decided to help with the job and lift her onto the roof.

“Of course,” she replied. “It sets the mood for the winter, and the end of the year.” Out of the corner of her eye, she could catch him glancing over at her, clenching and unclenching his jaw as if he wanted to ask for something. Aya nearly laughed at this familiar attempt at demurity, moving her hands aside to pat her lap. “You know, you only have to ask and I’ll let you.”

Kanetsugu huffed, his cheeks pinking ever so slightly as he lay his head on her lap. “I couldn’t possibly do that, my lady,” he protested. “It wouldn’t sound proper, coming from me.” He tucked his legs in and curled up comfortably, looking out over Illusio alongside her.

“Mmhm,” was Aya’s only response, a smirk curving at her lips as her deft fingers quickly undid Kanetsugu’s neat ponytail. Silky raven locks quickly tumbled into her lap, and she heard him let out a small, satisfied sigh.

“Do you have-” she began, but Kanetsugu cut her off by handing her a simple black comb. “This was your intention from the start, wasn’t it?” she teased, picking it up and starting to comb his hair.

“It was,” he admitted, a slightly sheepish expression on his face. “I hope it’s alright, my love.” Kanetsugu let his eyes slide shut as Aya let out a little hum of assent, slowly and lovingly beginning to work out the few tangles in his hair. He sucked in a breath and let out a long exhale, feeling the tension from the day melt from his body and relaxation settle in.

“Aya?” he mumbled, barely able to keep his eyes open.

“Yes, dear one?” she responded patiently, petting his head and threading her fingers through his hair.

“I love you."

Aya Gozen, half-sister of Uesugi Kenshin by Touken World

After the death of her husband, Nagao Masakage, Aya went by the name of Sentoin. Nagao Kagetora (later known as Uesugi Kenshin) is her half-brother. She had two sons and two daughters by Nagao Masakage: her children, including, Kagekatsu, was adopted into the Uesugi Clan. 

She was a highly intelligent woman and skilled in recognising talent, being responsible for employing various samurai to work for Kenshin. She recommended Naoe Kanetsugu to serve her son, Kagekatsu. It was rumored that Kanetsugu tried his best to care for her in gratitude.

Aya felt herself shifting before she woke proper, the side of her cheek brushing against an unfamiliar fabric. Her first thought was, when had she fallen asleep, before she felt the arms wrapped around her.

Panic snapped her eyes open in time for her to look up into Kanetsugu’s face, as he realized that she had woken. He was... carrying her?

“Kanetsugu, explain yourself,” she said, arching a brow. Although she made no move to break out of his hold.

“I’m - I’m sorry, my lady,” he stammered, his face flushing several shades pinker than normal. “I found you asleep in the castle library, and it didn’t look terribly comfortable, and I thought-”

Aya held up her hand, gently pressing a finger to his lips. “No, Kanetsugu, I meant, why this?” A sleepy fogginess was still clouding some of her mind, but she had enough thought to wonder aloud, “You could have simply shaken me awake, or had Kadabra use its powers to help you if you were so insistent on bringing me back to my rooms. I do certainly hope Kenshin hasn’t seen us like this.”

She felt him tense at that last part, and Aya gave a soft chuckle. “But, by all means. Now that we’re here,” she continued, leaning her head into Kanetsugu’s chest. “Go on.”

He looked down at her in his arms, as if only just now comprehending what he had actually done. “I...” He drew in a deep breath, the rise and fall of him against Aya more comforting than she had expected to find. “I care, my lady. That is why.”
