finished “yellowface”. goddamn that was a ride… highly highly recommend if you like villain protagonists
#i didnt mention it as much but i liked all the stuff with the publishing industry in this and feeling like a fraud as a creative#except june is like. actually a fraud. but still#but it did resonate with me as someone whos recently realized he doesnt want to be a big name author and get too deep in the industry#like. the fear of never being known and dying without leaving an impact. bc books are a way to immortalize yourself#and the stress of wanting to be a big name even though you dont have the chops for it#and i still want to write. i love it. but i dont think i want to do it for a living yknow? and thats a heartwrenching thing to accept rn#bc its something i wanted for the longest time but i dont think my adhd will allow it for me anymore#ik none of this is the real point of the novel and obviously my experience is very different. bc im quitting before im even starting really#and im obviously not plagiarizing dead poc#but yeah i think junes a really well written villain protagonist bc her motivations are born from extreme insecurity from the industry#who cant see that poc have it even harder than her in the industry#because of tokenism and fetishism#because shes gotta be the ultimate victim#i really hope it hasnt come across like im complaining about the character or the book when i post passages#bc like yeah june fucking sucks ass. but shes SUPPOSED to suck ass. its the point. youre rooting for her downfall#and i think shes a great example of a villain protagonist like major props for kuang bc that shit is HARD to do#and a lot of the stuff it has to say about white women victimhood is great#because its the core of junes character and it defines EVERYTHING she does and really shows how insidious it all is#echoed voice

The tech guys are hanging out in my office again and chatting about $10,000 week long vacations like this is normal.

list of things that made me scream in pjo episode 3
Percy picking grover because he trusts him not to betray him!!! THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS OK
Luke still comes off as so likable and inconspicuous that whole convo he had with percy and the shoes i just
GROVER AND THE CONSENSUS SONG I CANT
annabeth staring at the different flavors of candy in the gas station and not being able to pick and just buying all of them. Thats the annabeth we deserve
ANNABETHS KNIFE APPEARANCE ALERT and a fury is IMMEDIATELY killed
uncle ferdinand foreshadowing……………
When annabeth and percy start arguing in the woods and grover tries to change the subject by talking about his uncle and they both completely ignore him. I LOVE GROVER SO MUCH
the bickering in this episode is ON POINT by the way
like the stuff theyre arguing about makes sense. Yes i would be concerned about those things too
ESPECIALLY since theres such a focus put on trust (esp after percy learns that someone is going to betray him) and percy and annabeth are arguing about stuff theyve lied or havent told each other about???? Sorry that might be skipping ahead a bit but GOD is that the good stuff
i love that they changed how the three of them ended up going into auntie em’s because before it was a little concerning that none of them figured out it was medusa. Plus having a fury outside just adds to the tension a perfect amount i think, because it really traps them in there
all the discussion about the gods and what medusa talks to percy about in the kitchen - YES MAKE ME HATE THEM!! All of this is adding up to lukes motivations making so much sense in the end
ALSO!! Them harkening back to sallys line in the first episode when she tells percy that not all heroes look like heroes and not all monsters look like monsters - they brought it back so perfectly. Percy wanting to trust medusa because of what his mom said, medusa calling Poseidon a monster, ALL OF IT is so good
When theyre down in the basement and grover puts on the shoes and then just fucking. Flies away and disappears into the darkness yelling a little. and annabeth and percy just kind of helplessly watch him go before being like - welp i guess that plans not working. That was peak comedy
them using annabeths hat on medusa and then using it to kill alecto THEY WERE SO SMART FOR THAT!!! Also percy just the invisible severed head was a hilarious concept to me
when percy suggests burying the hat in the ground with the hat on to make sure no one bad finds it and annabeth just!!! Agrees!!! And then grover has to be like no that hats important to her its a gift from her mother!!! And then percys like well we’ll find another solution then. That whole scene was good yes i liked that
also annabeth revealing that grover was her protector too and percy asks about it and grover just changes the subject and doesnt answer. He is the KING of avoidance
also grover finally interrupting annabeth and percy when they start fighting and giving his whole speech about getting along. That wouldve felt a little cheesy and preachy and out of place from anyone else but considering grover tried to get them to sing the consensus song a few hours earlier i fully believe that he would say that
I AM IMPERTINENT
Why the fuck wasnt there a lin manuel maranda jumpscare warning. I couldve used one of those
but actually all the jokes in this episode were so on point. Like percy calling drachmas chuckie cheese tokens. And him arguing about voting on the bus. Anyways
10/10 episode i will be rewatching like eight times before next tuesday.

Tessa fucks me up dude can I just talk about her for a sec? Yeah? Yeah.
She loved those drones. She loved them because they were what she had. She felt sympathy for them when nobody else did. And I like to think there was a little bit of loneliness motivating her as well.
Her mother hated her. She was nothing to her. When her mother scolded her by saying "seems you still can't follow simple orders" her respone was "No, no no! Please!" BEGGING. Begging her mother to believe in her and be kind to her. She got chained up in her room (multiple times btw. At leas tthats implied. the hand she winced at and rubbed is the same hand the chain was on, which means shed be chained up long enough for it to rub her skin painfully. long enough to leave lasting pain.)
She is very connected to these drones, to the point where she kept all the error drones aroud because she LOVED them. She spent time digging them up. HELL SHE TOOK A FAMILY PHOTO WITH THEM DUDE...
Even when Cyn was creepy and scary, she kept her around. She'd rather lock Cyn up than get rid of her. and when n points it out, shes apologetic and hesitant. But we know WHY she did that. Even if it was kind of a sucky move, it was because she didnt wanna have to throw cyn out. and in the end that killed her.
Also she knows J well enough to know what sets her off (enough to. bite the shit out of a chain). She knows them. and she loves them.
I wish we'd gotten to know more about her an N. why is he so clearly her favorite? but thats not relevant ig
also her saying "I've only ever yakked to robots, J!" She has NO human friends. she has nobody to support her other than these robots. these robots who get treated like garbage by her family.
and then she has to watch these robots turn on her. Not just THESE ROBOTS but the three that she loved most. (also im going off what wouldve happened in ep 5 WITHOUT uzi, where n doesnt get out of the swamp, and nobody goes down to the basement)
V first, then Cyn, then J. And we KNOW she loved these three+N especially bc she took a family photo w them, interacted with them more often, and generally just seemed much closer with them.
and what does she get for it? killed. And also its implied by this screenshot that she wasnt ACTUALLY killed by cyn right then
Tumblr media
(the scientists, the sword beside her, the footprints, the way shes sitting against the wall, the expression she has. she totally just saw all that shit)
and she cant have been skyn bc the scientists wouldve known. the skinsuit wasnt exactly. hm. pretty.
which means she DID see her whole family+more slaughtered in front of her while she was powerless to stop it. She DID see J violently kill everyone around her. She DID see Cyn kill everyone. And she just has to. Deal with that. And despite all her efforts, the solver took over and cyn killed her. (im assuming tessa died somewhere around when n's mineshaft flashback was like i mentioned b4)
and all the while she was convinced shed lose N, id assume. based on the state of the other drone out there.
And honestly, i think what she got was worse.
also i am team "N knew Tessa wasn't the same Tessa he knew back on Earth"
The way he looked at her, and the way he was suspicious of her. He knew HIS Tessa would never treat a drone like this. Cyn has been known to have relatively shitty recreations of people at times (like Thad in episode two) But even so there was no way he could believe it was someone else (like. who would it be? he saw her blood he heard her voice like...) which is why he was so stressed after killing her (when he leaned on his sword and was breathing heavy, yk?)
he loved her and she loved him and now shes dead. just like everyone else he loved.
this isnt about n but like. idk if tessa could see him now i think shed cry. she loved him and all of them

BEST YGO GIRL: SEMI FINALS
Match 2
Tumblr media
please use this as an opportunity to say why you like a character, not why you don't.
Propaganda under the cut!
Isis Ishtar
gorgeous, very caring sister, strong duelist, and the only woman to ever make Seto Kaiba squirm
anyways. not only as mentioned above is she the first woman to make kaiba squirm, but she was by all means going to beat him if not for the millennium rod's millennium interference. yami marik admits that she's a strong duelist with a strategy that's been working for literal years-- and given that she's not like, a professional duelist, thats pretty impressive
she also recently got some really cool meta bumps and let me point out that an "ishizu deck" now includes obelisk the tormentor-- which we knew she had prior to giving it to kaiba, but i think it only solidifies my opinion that she very much could wield an Egyptian God Card, an exclusive little club for top tier duelists
as a character she presents herself with an amazing amount of poise and grace, shes compassionate and kind and stays with mai and serenity even though she only just met them. shes struggling through living the past 5 years of her life drowning in guilt for her family's tragedy just because she wanted to make her little brother happy and shadi is a fucking liar. shes foretold her own death and marches towards it grimly but with so much love in her heart. and even then shes 20 years old and holds an important position in the egyptian government that typically requires a doctorate degree AND has been dealing with mariks off-and-on bullshit entirely by her lonesome. she also likes to flex her fortunetelling a little which is awesome i think she should do that more that scene where she tells the guy exactly how the stele is being transported was so everything
speaking of shes got such an attitude. "is it your destiny to waste my time?" iconic. never seen before will never be seen again. watch the duel between her va and joeys its so fucking funny
shes excult. shes doesnt flinch in the face of god nor death. seto kaiba and yami marik respect her. shes so sad and so sweet and battle city couldnt have happened without her.
also her parallels with kaiba are what motivate kaiba to give yugi the card he needed to beat marik.
kaiba, in duelist kingdom, was ready to jump off a ledge if yugi didnt let him through to face pegasus while trying to save mokuba out of sheer desperation to save his little brother. he KNOWS what that dedication feels like and the iron kind of will you need to have to make that kind of gamble. isis is being so fucking legit with what shes saying and he respects that and her judgement enough to change his mind and not only watch the duel, but give yugi a card that eventually helps him win, even if he has no real confidence in the odds. but theres a CHANCE, which is the same thing he taught her when he beat her in a duel. the layers its her faith that moves him to act. which is so crazy
anyway vote isis shes my best friend forever and a real rep for all the 20 year olds who honest to god did not sign up for this bullshit
Aki Izayoi
An abuse victim who isn't the perfect passive figure but gets to work through her complicated feelings about power, agency, and family. Even with Yusei's help, she is the star of the show when she learns to control her powers and reconciles with her father, it is so fun that a ygo heroine gets to take such an antagonistic role bu not be shamed for her anger
please vote for my main girl, aki izayoi. aki was led to believe she was a monster from a young age by her father, who treated her powers like it made her unworthy of love. as a result, divine was able to swoop in and take advantage of aki's low self esteem. for years, aki believed herself unworthy of love and was molded into a living weapon at the hands of authority figures in her life. she was taken advantage of, and thus when she finally comes face to face with yusei, she refuses to believe he could provide her with unconditional friendship. who would want to be around a monster, after all?
aki also nearly beats yusei TWICE in a duel, bringing it down to a single turn difference. she comes toe to toe with him, and it truly is the result of who dueled better. she remains a fierce duelist, btw. the second season, aki gets her duel runner license, and immediately nearly beats the ass of a tournament winning turbo duelist - to the point where once again, a single card is the deciding factor. that's right: she nearly won. if not for a single trap card, aki izayoi would've won.
a fierce duelist who was shaped into a loving, caring woman despite years of being beaten down by the world: aki izayoi. vote for her now on your phones.

Can I, in fact, get you started on Yesterday? That's the movie premised on everyone just forgetting everything about the Beatles one day right?
Yes, and it drove me nuts because that’s a great premise! But it was totally wasted in a way that I found extra frustrating, because they only needed to slightly reshuffle the existing pieces and give the love interest some kind of coherent characterization, and they just. did not do that.
So like. The premise of the movie is that Jack, the main character, is a struggling musician who gets hit by a car and knocked unconscious at the exact moment of a mysterious global blackout. When he wakes up in the hospital, he discovers that he is the only person on Earth who remembers the existence of the Beatles.
It takes him a bit to realize this: he quotes When I’m Sixty-Four to his best friend Ellie at the hospital and she just gives him a weird look. When he plays a bit of Yesterday while hanging out with friends, they all freak out about how good his new song is, and he realizes that something is Weird.
There’s a fun scene where he frantically googles Beatles-related terms and comes up empty. “Beatles” turns up bugs and cars. Ringo Starr? Never heard of him. We find out that the band Oasis never existed either, and over the course of the movie there are a few more disappearances thrown in as jokes: Coca-Cola, cigarettes, and Harry Potter have also ceased to exist, or never were.
So Jack, who knows most of the Beatles catalogue by heart, and is a decent musician, decides to re-record them. And they’re instant hits, and he starts getting money and fame and record deals thrown at him, and hanging out with Ed Sheeran (played by Ed Sheeran), and going on talk shows and so on. The movie rapidly turns into a parable about the cost of fame, not letting success change you, remembering what’s more important than money and power, etc etc.
It’s just like. kind of lazy about it? and the romance plot feels both incoherent and slapdash, because Ellie has no personality and no comprehensible motivations.
Like, she’s been Jack’s music manager since they were teenagers, and she’s been convinced he was destined for greatness since she saw him play Wonderwall at a school talent show, but she also is weirdly convinced that she’s not good enough for him even before he becomes super famous. But Jack never actually stops being into her, even at the Peak Hubris part of the plot, and he eventually gives it all up and tells the world he didn’t write any of the songs as part of a big dramatic love confession. Except it’s never really clear what was holding either of them back in the first place, or why a dramatic love confession was even necessary.
So, here is how I would fix the movie.
First, the romance plot feels super tacked on anyway so let’s just resolve it earlier and give the poor girl an actual job in the plot. I’d have Jack sit Ellie down fairly early, after he’s released the first few songs and they’ve blown up but before the Fame Spiral starts, and say:
okay. look. I know this sounds nuts but either that accident caused the most specific brain damage in the history of the world, or I remember a different version of reality than everyone else, because I did not write these songs. I just remember them, and no one else does.
And the movie did actually set up a way for him to prove this, but they never used it! for some fucking reason! Because Wonderwall is the song that convinced Ellie that Jack was destined for musical greatness, and Wonderwall has also been erased. Which creates an opportunity, which the movie did not take, for a really effective scene where Jack asks Ellie what song he sang at the talent show. And she can’t answer him, which freaks her out because that’s a core memory! Thats the reason she’s so devoted to Jack in the first place!
So he starts playing her the song. And she knows she’s never heard it before, but she also knows that on some level, she recognizes it.
So from that point onwards, Ellie and Jack can be in cahoots, sharing the secret, which allows the romance to develop a lot more effectively and convincingly, and puts Ellie in a better position to talk Jack down from Fame Hubris, and allows Jack to remind Ellie that he’s not actually too good or too famous for her, because she knows he’s actually just the beneficiary of a deeply weird cosmic accident.
Also, there’s a better way to resolve the romance plot. Ellie has bafflingly low self-esteem, for reasons that are never explained, so like. please explain that, movie. But since half the romance plot is just Ellie going “I’m not good enough for you!” I do have a better resolution than what the movie did.
The only Big Dramatic Gesture Jack does comes at the very end of the movie, and it’s boring and doesn’t actually have anything much to do with Ellie — he already hates being famous by then, he wants out regardless. He needs a gesture that’s actually about Ellie, and allows them to be together and in cahoots again for the rest of the Price of Fame plot.
Which, again, the movie laid the groundwork for at the beginning, and never used.
I’d have Jack tell Ellie that he knows — is baffled by? but knows — that she thinks she ought to leave him for his own good, and that she thinks his music career is more important than her. To prove it’s not, he’s going to give her a song. A Beatles song he’s never going to record, never going to play, for anyone but her. A song that used to be one of the most famous songs in the world, but is only ever going to be theirs, hers and his, from now on.
He plays her When I’m Sixty-Four.
That does the trick: they’re together through the rest of the movie, and decide how to get Jack out of the Fame Trap together, and retire into happy obscurity together.
There is one other optional change, but it would require buy-in from Paul McCartney.
There’s already a scene in the movie — one of the best bits of the whole thing, honestly — where Jack meets an elderly John Lennon, who has never been famous and is perfectly content with his life. I think a nice epilogue would have Jack track down Paul, and find him in his back garden, planting flowers and beatifically happy.
After a short conversation in which Paul appears to have no memory of ever ever having been a Beatle, Jack leaves Paul to enjoy his retirement.
After he’s gone, as the camera pulls away and the movie ends, Paul starts to whistle When I’m Sixty-Four to himself.

do you think that gort used to like karlach at some point? or was he just always faking it to get what he wants? curious about your interpretation of their relationship
I actually wrote about that here! (TLDR: He very much admired her, but Gortash has a fucked up way of showing admiration.)
Karlach and Gortash’s relationship is fascinating. I feel strongly that it was platonic, with perhaps some wiggle room on Karlach's part only because she is really quick to say "it wasn't like that." But I do think that Karlach became one of only a handful of people that Gortash (thought he) cared about.
Gortash on a very base level would never put his security into the hands of someone he didn't trust. A lot of people really wonder "Why Karlach?" - and that's a great question to ask, what is this ~19 y/o (roughly) going to do for you? But it is because it is a bizarre pick that we should look deeper - on the one hand, she's young and impressionable and he can mold her - thats an obvious motivator. But on the other, I strongly believe Gortash saw himself in young Karlach. I also love Karlach and don't want to diminish anything that Gortash did to her, but I am a little skeptical of her "I didn't recognize evil when I saw it" line. I think that's not entirely true - I do think Karlach knew more about what he was (not a Banite, but an Arms Dealer), but she was young enough that she didn't quite understand the true ramifications of that. I think she knew her boss was bad, but didn't think too deeply into just how bad he was and the consequences of his actions. Plus, he gave her financial security she literally never had. As a person who grew up in poverty, yea I'd be willing to overlook a certain degree of shit too for that security.
[And to those who might be unhappy with that take - you're not giving Karlach enough credit. Someone who did bad things/was around bad people and ended up developing into an insanely incredible person in spite of it (and in opposition to it) is a testament to her character AND way more impressive than someone who was just blind and ignorant. She's so much more than that.]
Even more interesting is how genuinely happy Gortash is to see Karlach if you play her origin. It only comes out in this very quick origin-specific interaction - but he actually laughs and sounds different than the entire rest of the game.
"By the Black Hand, I'd recognize that voice anywhere."
Now, I'm insane and overanalyze voice actor's performances all the time, but his voice is immediately rougher and his cadence is different before it shifts back into the regular Gortash voice immediately in the next sentence - "Karlach - it's been an eternity" - as if he's caught himself slipping into something he shouldn't have. Will the real Enver Gortash please stand up?
I've also written about how I think Gortash is genuinely surprised that Karlach is angry with him/blames him for the Hells. It reveals so much about how he's so delusional about his own trauma.
So - in short - I feel that Gortash would say Karlach was one of the closest people to him ever and fully mean it. It's just that she happened to be close to someone who was a terrible, terrible person.

Psy vs. Psy
I genuinely think that if they were going to bring back any psych villian, Lindsay Leikin would pose the biggest threat. She knows Shawn isn’t psychic, she has adequate motivation to target him personally, and has the skills to prove he’s a fraud and do it slyly as she is also highly skilled in deductive reasoning (she did manage to get them to the counterfeiter to begin with so she has legitimate talent). She could even orchestrate it from prison. Maybe her parole was denied again so, like, what else is she going to do? Plus, she’s kind of nuts. Faking being a psychic with the FBI is a whole other level of bold compared to a local precinct, then she met a counterfeiter and was like yes please, more crime, then killed him when he tried to run, slept with Shawn that same night, then tried to take him hostage when she got caught. Its just a shame she wasn’t a bit more charismatic or eccentric. They had her play it as a very normal girl swept into a life of crime because of a guy (probably because she was a “love interest” for Shawn) when the receipts show she was an absolute lunatic (look at her face after they found the guy she killed. This bitch is smiling).
Tumblr media
Also, she just kinda gave up when she was caught. I wish she’d have been screaming “he’s a fraud!” as she was taken to the car or even had a heart to heart moment with Lou Diamond Phillips because she did betray him after all. Idk, i just wanted more. (But i think maybe the writers recognized this and thats how we get Declan later??)
Gus is basically siri at this point. Between the archeology, safes, online poker, the law, tennis players, space, comic books, of course pharmaceuticals, and now studies tender from all over the world- its a smaller list of what Gus doesn’t know. Gus clearly likes learning. I’m surprised he never thought of becoming a teacher or college professor, to try to pass that love of learning to the next generation. Though i guess we see he’s not that great with people surprisingly, considering he’s a successful salesman. (OH MY GOD WHAT IF THIS WHOLE TIME GUS ACTUALLY HAD LIVED UP TO HIS POTENTIAL AND BECAME AN INTERNATIONAL SPY. He knows all these things because of his job, psychs only been able to stay open because Gus can fund it from his spy job, joining psych was a good front but he was also lonely from never getting to be himself. I kid, i kid, but its a fun idea for me haha)
No fucking way shawn doesn’t know what a drill is. Henry definitely would have beat that kind of man stuff into him. The military time too. I just felt the need to point this out. its like the show itself is dissing my boy and i have to defend him lol
I love when Gus is proud and smarmy over shawns talent. Look at his face here. My boy about to prove you wrong.
Tumblr media
And do you think Shawn is actually afraid of competition or do you think he learned at an early age from his father that he didn’t have value unless he was the best? Huh Henry, huh???(Weekend warriors “you don’t want to be a loser” comes to mind)
Henry trying some reverse psychology here. I can’t tell if its because Henry is actually concerned for Shawns safety like he said he wasn’t in the previous episode, or if he’s still taking it personally that Shawns using the gifts he “gave” him to be psychic. Probably both. We know he was really bothered by his motorcycle accident, so i wonder if he’s been kind of spiraling, and adding up all the crazy situations he’s been in. (Which, i don’t think Shawn tells him about. i think Gus calls him like a weekly report haha) I think the fact that shawns cases are becoming more dangerous he suddenly doesn’t like the idea of him being a detective, well a detective this way at least, because i think in his mind he’d be safer if he was an actual cop where he had a partner with a gun, and back up, and rules, and training. I mean we know he wouldn’t be, (look at what happens to Lassie and Juliet)
I just wanted to gif this because it’s one of my fave jokes in the episode!
Tumblr media
Mildred to the rescue! Im not entirely sure how this worked but it did and thats what matters haha

Nona the Ninth Reaction - Chapter 17
only nearly 50% of the way through this book and we’re already on day four. and the description that ‘Hot Sauce draws her gun’ on this day is very ominous
‘That fucking shuttle’ Palamedes i am not as smart as you, i am both very concerned and totally clueless about what Palamedes realised about the shuttle. i guess my main theories are Pyrrha has either been taken/went willingly for some unknown reason to the Emperor’s shuttle, or she’s been taken into BoE custody for some reason??
from We Suffer’s perspective i guess it makes sense that she wants Nona to be Harrow, because despite their overall perspective on necromancy, having a Lyctor who could actually help them fight against the Houses could be incredibly helpful for BoE. at least i hope its that because Harrow did help kill an awful lot of planets in the last book, and i imagine some of BoE might want revenge
ohhhhmfg Pal and Cam’s situation is so tragic. Palamedes has technically survived but from his perspective he’s doing exactly what he rejected so firmly in GtN, killing her. this is just cruel
and for all my theorising about Nona i didn’t consider what Pal suggests here, that Nona’s some kind of full soul merger of Harrow and Gideon. for starters i think its unlikely, given Nona has her similarities but is very different in many unique ways to both of them. and on a more personal level i just hope thats not the case because i like my character’s souls unmerged please and thank you
i wonder if Nona’s going to be able to do something about the RB eventually, given she seems to be able to understand it. also describing it as ‘low[ing] sadly, like a cow’ feels like a very pointed comparison given John apparently killed a whole bunch of cows a couple chapters ago. i mean i have no clue what the fuck it could mean or why but it feels significant
i’m still very intrigued as to whose side the Angel is on. based on her story here she’s clearly not associated with the Houses, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s with BoE either. she’s kind to Nona and a good teacher to the kids seemingly but i still think she’s suspicious and don’t fully trust her
the absolute irony of John’s motivations apparently being to save the Earth and everyone from climate change, only to years later be killing planets and using them for mining
‘An interesting group, your family’ ohhh shit, first Hot Sauce and now the Angel seem to be taking note of the strangeness of Nona’s situation. and i’m curious whats up with Hot Sauce and the Angel’s relationship, what with her having already told Hot Sauce the survival advice she gives the rest, and Hot Sauce being so determined to look out for her. i wonder if Hot Sauce has confided in the Angel about Nona’s cut not healing, and thats why they seem suspicious of Nona’s family here
oooh is Nona’s drawing that seems to disturb the Angel an awful lot her drawing her dreams, of Gideon maybe?
oh the kid’s plan and swearing this oath is going to go so so badly. i feel like there’s no way they’re not gonna find out Nona’s related to necromancy sooner rather than later
wtf Hot Sauce is very ruthlessly practical about Born in the Morning’s dads being ‘baggage’. its  hard to believe she’s roughly the same age as Jeannemary was in GtN. like don’t get me wrong, Jeannemary went through an awful lot but she and Isaac were also ‘annoying teens’ in the way Hot Sauce really hasn’t gotten to be

god fuckign dammit i cant stop thinking about thefucking hospital scene
just rewatched it and i don't want to spend 5 hours formatting a long unhinged twitter thread so here we are. i am mishmashing the game and anime and manga scenes together in my personal canon blender. p4 spoilers of course
cause like, naoto is the one to suggest they throw namatame into the TV. and kanji's on board with it too. but the one yu has to fight over it, the one yu has to think carefully about and talk down, is fucking yosuke hanamura.
of course everyone has a personal stake in it considering namatame was going around kidnapping everyone, but yosuke specifically...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he phrases it like "we have to stop him before he hurts anyone else," but it seems like a big part of his motive is revenge. saki's kindness meant a lot to him, regardless of how real it was, or selfish his motive is, and it wasn't fair she had to die. so now he's gonna kill namatame. and it doesn't matter if that goes against his morals, or if no one else is willing to do it. he is absolutely dead set on killing namatame (pun intended). the only thing stopping him from doing it is yu.
it's ironic looking back. because like yosuke, namatame also lost someone important to him, and is trying to use his power to do what he thinks is right in his own way... just like yosuke wanted to be a hero, namatame wanted to be a savior, but yosuke is too blinded by rage in the moment to see that. the big difference is who got to them first. yosuke's had yu with him the whole time to keep him grounded, and eventually, the whole investigation team- namatame got adachi.
(side note- i more often think about yosuke+adachi parallels; how they're both bored with everything, but yosuke has the team and adachi pushes everyone away, but that's not really relevant rn lol)
there's also the scene where yu goes to confront the true killer alone, and yosuke's waiting outside when he comes back. and at that point he's not angry anymore, just… disappointed. (feelsbadman) but i don't think it's because he changed his mind.
after you calm him down in the hospital, he's STILL thinking about doing it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(another side note- the va in this scene is top notch. this line gave me chills rewatching it. first time i saw the hospital scene i was getting a little scared lol)
and after learning the true killer's identity he fucking hates adachi. even after defeating him he never really forgives him. he still gets pissed and tries to attack adachi when he shows up unexpectedly in ultimax:
Tumblr media
yosuke was 100% willing to kill someone, and he'd 100% do it again if his partner gave the okay. but as much as he hates adachi, he understands that he's important to yu, enough to know yu would break their promise and sneak into the TV alone. and despite how he might feel, he doesn't want yu to lose someone important to him too.
there's also the scene in the anime after the hospital, where after yu tries to send everyone home promising he'll be okay, yosuke comes back to comfort him. he's still upset, but he's deferring to yu's leadership and more importantly, making sure that his partner is okay comes first.
that's why i think it's great the anime puts the fist fight after the hospital scene. cause he spends his whole social link struggling with his grief and insecurity and jealousy; and then, in december, with tensions running high and these nasty revelations about himself and awful feelings swirling inside, it all finally comes to a head. and he tries to get it all out in the only way he knows how: two dudes beating the shit out of each other. Thats True Love Babey.
not much of a point to all this, except that i really love yosuke's character (and souyo) lol. something is wrong with him. I Know What He Is. he's like the team mood maker and he's always joking around (and i think golden especially looooves to play him up for comic relief), but perhaps the moments when he lets the veneer slip are the moments where he shines the most.

Hey No Straight Roads fandom! It's me, your humble Strawberry, asking for a little help with a conundrum im having.
*ahem*
WHAT THE SLIMY POSSUM IS THE TIMELINE OF NO STRAIGHT ROADS???
Tumblr media
If you can't read the crazed chicken scratches of a madwoman, don't worry I'll translate.
The start of the timeline is simple enough (at first); The Goolings were a rock band that acted as the sole charter of Vinyl City, before things fell apart and the band split up (source: Tatiana's lore dumps between bosses and during/after her own bossfight) either before Mayday was born or when she was too young to remember them. Fine so far.
Sometime after this, Vinyl City starts expanding, adding new infrastructure, making things shiny and new, all happening while Mayday and Zuke were growing up, evident when you explore the intractables around the city. It's easy to assume NSR is behind all of this, what with Tatiana's goal of eliminating the past and moving on. EXCEPT...
Tumblr media
Eve, you bundle of questions wrapped in an enigma you...
According to her Kliff Notes, Eve was the very first artist signed onto NSR, and was directly responsible for the label's rise to power.
But THAT MAKES NO SENSE thanks to what little concrete evidence we have towards the timeline: their ages.
Mayday is 21. Eve is 27.
With that in mind, NSR forming immediately or at least shortly after The Goolings broke up IS IMPOSSIBLE.
There is a sizeable, wobbly gap between The Goolings breaking up and NSR's foundation, a gap where SOMETHING is happening, unless Vinyl City was just plunged into darkness for who knows how many years, WHICH SOMEONE WOULF HAVE PROBABLY MENTIONED, MOST OF ALL TATIANA, WHO HAS EVERY MOTIVE TO REMIND PEOPLE OF A QUITE LITTERAL DARK AGE WITHOUT NSR.
But even if that was the case, it makes no sense that a company or government that isn't NSR to make such rapid expansions to the city, because WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU BUILD SUCH ENERGY-INTENSIVE INFRASTRUCTURE WITH A MASSIVE POWER VACCUM OPEN.
BUT THATS NOT ALL, HEAVENS NO, Because there's a whole lot of questions about sigifigant events WE HAVE NO POINTS OF REFERENCE FOR.
When was the War that Neon J and the battle bots are veterans of? When was the Qwaza invented/discovered? When was DK West's unwitting uprising? WHEN DID BUNK BED JUNCTION EVEN MEET???
I am slowly losing my mind, so PLEASE, for my own sanity, if anyone has any backstage info, or a quote from an interview or an ama, or just found something I missed in game, please, please, PLEASE let me know, so that I can AT LEAST nail down an ORDER OF EVENTS.

Alex survives the fight with tim but due to the fact, the severity of the injures (medical special interest at play here) he can no longer speak, Alex internalizes deserving it
Like he can live with the disability it’s not what bothers him even if it takes adjusting its the guilt
Maybe alex gets back the traveling flannel to do communication
Before he starts learning to sign
Tim feels real guilty for it and alex is also drowning in his own guilt and tim is trying ro help
Alex is pushing him away too
They’ll cuddle but alex doesn’t wanna talk
Tim will bring him paper
He’ll sign to him because hes learning too but alex is unresponsive to it for a while
And alexs just kinda in a stupor
Because whats the point of being spared after all hes done even if its for the right thing
Hes not going out of his way ro do anything to himself he doesn’t have tbe energy but he sure as fuck isn’t going out his way ro do what he needs ro as well
Tim sees bit of his younger self in alex tbere i think
It’s passive sucidial ideation and alex won’t stop any situations if they happen
Tims scared with that for a bit too
Because he’s experienced both sides of actively and not actively and he knows alex won’t actively do something but maybe even a simple task will lead to something
Hes just trying to get him to eat too
Do things
He washes his hair for him and stuff
Plus the semi-dating relationship too they have iys so hard ro explain and then alex will cry id they explain
Trying to celebrate alexs birthday
Jess comes by too
And alex has been dreading being face to face with jess and she doesn’t seem mad
Hes just scared how shes gonna look at him and why she’d wanna come by
Tim ans jess make the cake and all
They try talking
Talk about things and jay comes up and jess tries to circle bacj
And alex stops responding + amy finding tbe camera on Alex’s birthday so…No judgment with it either
Basic reminders too
“Sit up in the tub”
“Drink some water”
Tims trying his hardest
It’s never quite defined but they basically are dating despite everything
I’ve thought about that too
Its such a somber time probably
And + jess reminds him of amy and jay
Specifically disregarding all memories in general
They bring presents and all and alex just wants to curl up
Hes not made to do anything but jess’ presence just has him not having it
+her behaving so gently ro him because thats not how jess behaves and he knows its not because od the disability is just because of that fragile mental state Tim knows alex is smart too so he knows alex is liable to just let something happen
So sit up
Hes gotta sit up
Alex calls her on it and jess is also like “im still piecing stuff together and i don’t know if you’re okay with how i normally behave” But also tim knows the thought process
Tims just making sure
He sees the scarring on alexs neck when they’re cuddling too maybe he traces it and such
Alex lets him
Going out the way he make his favorite food and stuff to try and give motivation when he’s trying to get him to eat
Alex makes it a little easier because he feels bad about making tim so much when he doesn’t have to and he shouldn’t and so he doesn’t stay on his leg too long
Maybe jess tries behaving a bit (this is hc they wrre all friends as kids propaganda
normal to see how it goes but she’s treading carefully and alex just asks her why she would even wanna see him Jess also sticking with “we’re all we have left, we stick together. You aren’t just leaving me like that.”
And alex says shw shoukdnt Tim has Alex’s gun for obvious reasons
Alex still has the picture of amy under his pillow
He has a little wall of old pictures
But he refuses to touch any photo books ars film of back then
Also tim probably was the one who went out of his way to get alex ro thw hospital and alex says he should’ve left him because he wouldn’t feel like this
And why him and not jay but he doesn’t say that because he knows itd be hurtful and he doesn’t have to worry abt something slipping because he has to do it to say stuff he thinks its a blessing his mouth cant fuck shit uo anymore
And he knows it’d probably be selfish for jay to live and suffer too and to let tim know he thought that
Alex thinks he should’ve just choked on his blood and laid there
Cold like sarah
Maybe he could’ve not stabbed her stopped it or gotten her help but he let her bleed and he didn’t have to shoot jay he could’ve not
His hands were on amys neck he had control he could’ve not he couldve let go
He couldve kept seth alive
And brian wouldn’t of fallen in succession ro everything And alex wants to cry but it’s all he’s done about this and about everything in his life
But it’s his stress response and he hates it but another fic I have planned

okay so im making a new post abt this since its a little different from my last analysis post. but @petscopping brought up a very interesting point in the tags! that being "nobody is innocent" and he is so fucking right abt that
that was in regards to the objectification of care, and how paul also contributes to that. but like, even characters that aren't explicitly on screen are culpable. specifically belle.
i always get this impression that shes hiding something. she knows far more than she lets on, and i almost have to wonder if its in a way to protect paul? which is interesting since we know how in denial he is about Literally Everything, which is actively harming himself in some way.
she knows. a LOT about this game. like, paul is only recording gameplay to prove that hes "not lying" about the weird game he found. then later down the line after paul gets to the other side of the quitters room and tells her tiara is gone and her reply is "of course." the way paul replies to that too is telling since hes confused as to why she knows somethings up. even earlier than that paul mentions how he was shocked to find "his room" but isnt anymore since it makes sense that the game would be connected to him through belle. not to mention she knows an older version of the game that had the passageway to the caskets. she had played it as recently as 2004. why lie at first?
a little tangential, but i really gotta wonder about her connection to rainer. obviously they were close enough for him to be doing...whatever the fuck happens during a rebirthing event. or whatever he thinks is supposed to happen, i should say. shes heavily connected to tiara in some way, and has a stupid amount of play time on the damn game. if you ascribe to the theory that tiara and in game marvin are based entirely off in game behaviors of real people playing the game, its no wonder tiara seems to be almost...sentient? all marvin does is run around and say shit and like be weird and the game was literally made for him. tiara like. can edit texture maps, and use that to also speak directly to paul thru tool. and because of that, she can speak more directly, and isnt hindered by the p2 to talk mechanic like marvin is.
point is, belle has logged a crazy amount of time into the game. sure you could probably say the hours played is inaccurate, maybe she just had the game left open on a console for what. 17 years was it? even rainer admits its dubious. but imo, it feels more...symbolic? like sure maybe she wasnt playing it for that long. but she had some kind of passive connection to the game in that time. she is/was in contact with rainer. she HAD to be. (this also might imply the game was still being worked on after 2000. but thats a whole nother can of worms)
i cant think of any other motive for her lying about that other than to protect paul in some way. which, in a way, ties back to cares objectification. paul is absolutely denying any humanity to his child self. its ingrained in the very code of the game.
and in some way, belle is also participating. maybe im reading too far into that, but with how much the series is able to tell us abt characters who dont even fucking talk is really impressive so its not completely unrealistic.

BEST YGO GIRL: FINAL ROUND
Yuzu Hiragi
The entire show would not work if the cast wasn't obsessed with her, and they're all right to stan her, literally gets Sora and Serena to defect from Academia with her sheer charisma, beat Masumi at their gay little rivalry, Yugo spends a few days with her and is ready to die for her, Yuya is simply just the loudest about adoring her And why not? She is so clever and determined, doing the most work out of anyone to figure out the myth plot. Actively trains to keep up with the rest of cast. Even when the universe is conspiring against her and trying to keep her down, she fucking headbutts Roger and tells him off or manifests to help save the world in the ultimate girlboss team-up that was the Arc V finale. Truly any dimension without her is worth upending.
The mysterious magical bracelet that isekai's her to different worlds, the Can-Do attitude, the cool poses (fusion summoning), the ADORABLE character design, AND she was 1/4 of a world-saving hero in the past?? If it weren't for the meddling writers, she would have been the main character
yuzu is everything. literally the plot of arc v hinges on the fact everyone who meets her become just as obsessed with her. and they are totally right to do so

Saw your post about Maxton Hall and I hope you don't mind me coming into your inbox because I have some thoughts as well.
I think what I find the most interesting about Bellfort's early dynamic is that James basically had like pretty one-sided beef with Ruby lmao. Yes, she thought he was an arrogant ass but she definitely didn't wanna fight with him. Meanwhile, James was fully convinced he is at war with this girl. It's actually kinda sad because it shows the toxic mindset he has due to his father. But also how fucked his world is. Especially with the context of Lydia, who got fucked over by a trusted person. (Wish the show would've gone into more detail with that) So I can't fault him for not believing Ruby or for thinking of ways to shut her up. He was protective of his family because people usually hurt them if they got any dirt on them. Like how many people did he have to pay off, how many people kinda took advantage of him and like had sex with him, so they would shut up? It also raises the question about his friends. Does he feel like he can fully trust them, or does he feel paranoid around them as well?
Meanwhile, Ruby just wants to be left alone, but James can't understand this because he always looks for ulterior motives, which really makes the lacrosse field scene so special. Like in episode 1, he calls her a nobody, but then she shows him great strength by genuinely apologizing, and suddenly, he sees her as an equal. (Calling her and himself kings who bow down in front of each other) This definitely never happened before because his whole world view shattered there. You could see it in his eyes. It's sad to think he probably didn't experience kindness before. Like Ruby was genuinely hurt by her ways and words she threw at him, James probably didn't feel this way about her this time because he was at war with her. It had to be Ruby making the first step and showing compassion for him, so he could learn that there are other ways to life. Other ways than what his dad fed him since he was a kid.
PLEASE im so glad you pointed all of this out, because ABSOLUTELY YES! he continues to not understand why she wants to stay invisible, he’s never wanted to just be invisible bc he’s never had that luxury! And now it makes me think, when he says he never wants to leave their room in the last episode, that he does want to be invisible, he doesn’t want the world he was born into. And he’s even sad ruby tells him he should take advantage of his circumstances, because he doesnt want to. I think him walking away from that hall and seeing those drummers on the street, the freedom of it, he wants that. And he hopes when he gets home that maybe he can have that, if he fights for it enough, if he can convince his mother because he’ll never convince his father. And then he comes home and the rug gets pulled so violently from under him. For the first time, he had real hope and want something for himself and it’s gone in a blink of an eye.
When he tells ruby that she would be able to say she had the hottest guy in the school when he’s trying to bribe her? You’re so right, it’s probably happened before, that someone has asked for sex while blackmailing him and thats so heartbreaking. He absolutely thinks his friends only like him for his name, but not Alister, you see that in the little scenes they have with each other. The slight digs that is meant to be for friends who want their friend to be better, to the comforting words afterwards. They make each other better and point out the idiocy, both of them in love with someone they shouldn’t be with (ruby because his dad is a dick, and keshav because he has internalized homophobia).
The one sided beef, the way even lydia is like, youre going to far now, she’s not said anything? But James won’t be deterred, he’s what his father taught him to be, but then she hits hard to the core of him, she isn’t afraid to tell him to his face exactly what she thinks, and he’s not had that. Everyone bows to his family name and superiority but she won’t, it’s not in her blood. The second he talks about how poor she is, how she could use the money for a new backpack, it’s a switch in her head. She came to the school on merit alone, not money or societal standing, and she’ll be damned if this arrogant rich boy has the last word. Even when she asks to be left alone, she spars with him verbally, rises to his bait but still manages to have the last word. And that makes James hate her, but then Alister points out that he’s never seen Ruby that angry before, she’s never had cause to until James came full throttle into her life. She’s separated herself from every other girl in that school, who want him for his looks and his money, but she doesn’t. It’s altogether infuriating and intriguing to him, he’s captured. And maybe it’s his dad pushing Elaine onto him (but he was already captured) but he goes for it, he helps her with the poster and the dress and he’s struck dumb by her in that dress. The humiliation after his dad’s words, the embarrassment that he couldnt stand up for her even if he wanted to, it hurts him. And after, the “you’re not invisible anymore, not to me” JUST WOW! It’s so fucking good!!!
i could go on too but yeah I’ll stop there for now, thank you so so much for the ask! Made my night to talk about this because lord knows im still obsessed ❤️
