Free Liquor At BJP MP's Post-Poll Event Sparks Political Row In Karnataka
Crate after crate of liquor bottles, long queues of men waiting for their turn and police providing security at the event -- a thanskgiving event organised by supporters of Karnataka BJP MP and former minister K Sudhakar has drawn criticism for free and public distribution of liquor.
Tumblr media
The Chikkballapur MP's supporters organised the event to thank people for his victory in the recently-held general election. BJP's K Sudhakar defeated Congress MS Raksha Ramaiah by a margin of more than 1.6 lakh votes.
Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar said BJP national president JP Nadda must issue a clarification. "I don't want the local leaders to… I want the BJP national president to issue a clarification," he said, adding that "this is the culture of the BJP".
Asked if the state government will take steps in this matter under the state excise policy, the Deputy Chief Minister said, "That is the next point. First, let the party answer."
Visuals from the event show long queues and rush among people to collect liquor bottles. What's bizarre is that Mr Sudhakar had written to the local police ahead of the event, seeking police deployment for the event. And this letter mentioned that food and liquor will be served at the event. A big question then is why the event was allowed and cops deployed.
Commenting on the row over liquor distribution, CN Ashwath Narayan, former minister and BJP MLA said, "We can't blame anybody unless this is properly looked into. If there is a system, the government would have fixed responsibility. If the government feels whatever has happened (is wrong), let them take action."

BJPs JP Nadda replaces Piyush Goyal as Leader of House in Rajya Sabha
Union Health Minister and senior BJP leader JP Nadda has been appointed as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha today. BJP president and Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has been named Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, official sources said on Monday. Nadda replaces Union minister Piyush Goyal, who recently won the Lok Sabha elections and on Monday took oath as a member of the Lower House. Meanwhile, Nadda on Monday wrote to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, questioning the “stoic silence” of his party on the recent hooch tragedy which left several people dead in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu hooch tragedy was entirely a “man-made disaster”, Nadda said in his letter to Kharge, adding “perhaps if the deep nexus between the ruling DMK-INDI alliance dispensation and illicit liquor mafia did not exist today, 56 lives could have been saved”. Nadda said the ghastly images of burning funeral pyres from Karunapuram village in Kallakurichi in the aftermath of Tamil Nadu’s “worst ever’ spurious liquor consumption tragedy, that has left 56 dead until now and almost 159 persons hospitalised, has shaken the conscience of the entire nation”. “Kharge ji, as you know Karunapuram is largely populated by the Scheduled Castes, who face several challenges due to poverty and discrimination in Tamil Nadu. In light of this, I was shocked that when such a huge disaster has taken place, the Congress party led by you, has maintained a stoic silence on this,” the BJP president said. Modi 3.0 With 72 Ministers Takes Oath, 9 New Faces In Cabinet
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath today along with 71 ministers of the new coalition government. Thirty of them are Cabinet Ministers, five independent charge, and 36 Ministers of State. The portfolios will be announced later.
Tumblr media
PM Modi, 73, will head a coalition government in his third term, or Modi 3.0, for the first time since he became Prime Minister in 2014 following a huge "Brand Modi" victory after 10 years of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule.
He is the second Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to be elected for a third term in a row.
The oath ceremony is being held at the lawns of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, with the weather office forecasting a maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius in the national capital.
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to PM Modi. Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah took oath after him. Nitin Gadkari was the fourth leader to be administered the oath of office by the President. JP Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar, and Manohar Lal Khattar followed in taking oath.
HD Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular), who took oath after Mr Khattar, was the first leader from any of the BJP's allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to take oath. Soon after, Janata Dal (United) leader Lalan Singh, a close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, also took oath.
Sarbananda Sonowal was the first leader from the northeast to take oath today, Kiren Rijiju the second.
Virendra Kumar, a prominent Scheduled Castes face of the BJP and eight-time MP, was inducted into the Narendra Modi government. He won the election from Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh reserved seat.
Supporters of leaders who have been called to the stage clapped and cheered loudly, as they saw their leaders walk towards the mic to be administered oath by the President.
Jyotiraditya Scindia's induction into the Modi 3.0 council of minister has cemented his importance in the BJP since he left the Congress four years ago, marking the beginning of his second stint in the Union cabinet.
Hardeep Singh Puri, the former diplomat who helped India navigate through two back-to-back oil crises, was among the ministers sworn in today.
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has solidified his status as the "real" political heir of his father, Ram Vilas Paswan, after he was inducted into the Narendra Modi government today. With this, Chirag Paswan makes a remarkable comeback in Bihar's turbulent political landscape.
Leaders from India's neighbourhood and the Indian Ocean Region including Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the event.

"Look At The Irony": Prashant Kishor Party's Fact-Check As BJP Rumours Swirl
Social media is abuzz with a screenshot claiming that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed poll strategist and politician Prashant Kishor as their national spokesperson. Prashant Kishor's party, Jan Suraaj, has issued a statement saying that the so-called BJP letter is fake.
Tumblr media
Prashant Kishor's party also hit out at the Congress, accusing its leader Jairam Ramesh of sharing the fake image. On its official X handle, Jan Suraaj shared a screenshot that they claimed proved that the document was shared by the senior Congress leader on WhatsApp.
"Look at the irony! Congress, Rahul Gandhi You all talk about fake news and claim to be the victims. Now see yourself how the head of Communications of Congress Party, Jairam Ramesh, apparently a senior leader, is personally circulating a fake document," the party said in the post.
The image shows a BJP letterhead claiming that party president JP Nadda has appointed Prashant Kishor as the party's national spokesperson. It was shared by several users on X and Facebook.
The image went viral after Mr Kishor predicted a victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP in an exclusive interview with NDTV on Tuesday.
Mr Kishor, who had worked with PM Modi and the BJP during the 2014 polls, said that the BJP's tally in this election may hover around its 2019 score of 303 or better than it. He also credited the ruling party with shifting the election discourse from merely crossing the half-way mark to winning 370 seats in the Lok Sabha.
"In the last three-four months, the discussion has centred around '370' and '400 paar'. Consider it a BJP strategy or Opposition's weakness, but the BJP has entirely shifted the goalpost from 272 to 370. This has benefitted the BJP. Now, no one is saying Modi ji will lose, they are saying they may not get 370 seats," said the poll strategist.

Jayant Sinha Responds To BJP's "Didn't Vote, Attend Rallies" Notice
Former Union Minister and MP Jayant Sinha on Wednesday said that he was "surprised" to receive the BJP's show cause notice asking him why he didn't vote in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections and did not take part in election campaigning.
Tumblr media
In response to BJP's Jharkhand general secretary Aditya Sahu's letter, Mr Sinha said that he voted through the postal ballot process as he was overseas for "personal commitments".
"I was very surprised to receive your letter and discover that you have released it to the media as well," Mr Sinha, who is the sitting MP from the Hazaribagh seat in Jharkhand, said in a two-page letter to Mr Sahu.
Responding to Mr Sahu's charge that he has not been taking part in "organisational work and election campaigning" ever since Manish Jaiswal was declared a candidate from the Hazaribagh Lok Sabha seat, Mr Sinha said that he was not invited for "any party events, rallies or organizational meetings".
"The party announced Shri Manish Jaiswal ji as its candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. My endorsement was evident when I congratulated Shri Jaiswal ji on March 8, 2024, an event that was well-documented on social media and demonstrated my unwavering support for the party's choice," he said.
"If the part wanted me to participate in any election activities, you could surely have contacted me. However, not a single senior party official or MP/MLA from Jharkhand reached out to me. I was not invited to any party events, rallies, or organizational meetings," he said.
Jayant Sinha, who in March had announced that he wouldn't contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, also said that he had requested BJP national president JP Nadda to relieve him from his "direct electoral duties".
"I withdrew from the Lok Sabha elections on March 2. After consulting with Shri Nadda ji and getting his explicit approval, I made it clear publicly that I was not going to be involved in these elections. I am happy to support the party on economic and governance policies and have continued to do so," the two-term MP told Mr Sahu.
Mr Sinha also said that on April 30, he received a call from Mr Jaiswal inviting him to his nomination rally on May 1, but he couldn't attend "due to the late notice"
"I traveled to Hazaribagh on May 2 and went directly to Shri Jaiswal ji's residence to express my regards. He was not present, so I conveyed my message to his family," he said.
Mr Sinha, who has been associated with the BJP for over 25 years, also stated that his "development and organizational work in Hazaribagh have been appreciated widely", that also reflected in his "record" victories in the 2014 and 2019 general elections.
"Given my contributions to the party and the circumstances detailed above, the public issuance of your letter is unseemly. Your approach demoralizes dedicated party workers and undermines the party's collective efforts. Additionally, despite my loyalty and hard work for the party, it appears that I am being unjustly targeted," he told Mr Sahu.
"We could have certainly spoken in person or on the phone at any time to address any of your misgivings. As the party official responsible for the Hazaribagh Lok Sabha elections, you could have reached me at any time. To send me a letter after the elections are over is incomprehensible," he said.

“I do not have that kind of money to contest…” FM Sitharaman on contesting Lok Sabha elections
In the latest revelation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that she had to decline the BJP’s offer to contest Lok Sabha elections as she does not have the required funds for the campaign.
She also revealed that BJP President JP Nadda offered her an option to contest either from Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu.
FM Sitharaman was attending the TIMES NOW Summit 2024 when she said, "After thinking for a week or ten days, I went back to say, 'Maybe not'. I do not have that kind of money to contest. I also have a problem whether it is Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu. It's also going to be a question of various other winnability criteria that they use... Are you from this community or are you from that religion? Are you from this? I said no, I do not think I am going to able to do it."
"I am very grateful they accepted my argument... So I am not contesting," she added.
She was asked why the Finance Minister of India does not have enough funds to fight the elections, she said that the consolidated funds of India do not belong to her.
"My salary, my earnings, and my savings are mine and not the Consolidated Fund of India," she said.
For the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has fielded many of its Rajya Sabha members. The Lok Sabha elections are due on April 19. The Rajya Sabha members who would be contesting in the Lok Sabha elections this time include Piyush Goyal, Bhupender Yadav, Rajiv Chandrasekhar, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The FM said that she would support the campaigning for other members.
"I will attend a lot of media events and go with the candidates - like tomorrow I will be going for Rajiv Chandrasekhar's campaign. I'll be on the campaign trail," she added.

If BJP Wins in Telangana, CM Will be from Backward Class, Says PM Modi; BRS Writes to EC Against 'Stopping Rythu Scheme' Order
Five day left for the election results of five stated to be declared, politics has heated up with political parties highlighting each other’s failures in a bitter battle. Before the December 3 results, Telangana will vote on November 30, following which exit polls will begin to trickle in by evening.
Tumblr media
The top leaders, thus, are now focusing on the south Indian state with a blitzkrieg of campaign. While Union home minister has been stressing on ending the reservation for Muslims in the state and distributing them among the scheduled castes, K Chandrashekhar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has been promising sops to the minority community.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to visit Telangana on November 27, Monday. The prime minister is scheduled to visit Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Hyderabad at 8am, following which he will hold rallies at Mahabubnagar at 11am, Karimnagar at 1pm and a road show in Kacheguda at 4pm.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda will also address public meetings in Telangana. At 2:05m, he is scheduled to be at Nizamabad’s NSF Ground. At 3:10pm, he will be at Banswada’s government junior colleage in Kamareddy and at 4:20pm, he will at Jukkal’s Madhur HQ in Kamareddy.
Union home minister Amit Shah will address a public meeting at noon in Karimnagar’s Huzurabad.
A BJP leader on Monday accused BRS Patancheru MLA candidate, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, of using “deepfake” to “fool Telangana people on Instagram”. Union home minister Amit Shah has alleged a secret understanding between the Congress and the BRS in the Telangana state assembly elections. He claimed that they will support each other in different elections. “The Congress will support the BRS so that K Chandrasekhar Rao will become chief minister once again. In return, the BRS will support the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections so that Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister,” Shah claimed at an election rally at Makthal in Narayanpet district.
At an election rally in Telangana’s Kamareddy, PM Modi on Sunday said, “TRS changed its name to BRS. UPA became INDIA bloc. But nothing will change despite a change in their nomenclature. Their DNA is the same. They are not loyal to people. Both BRS and Congress fear the rising growth of BJP in Telangana,” he said.
