My dear the community needs you too!
https://www.tumblr.com/arctophyllax/735707485263085568/actually-theres-a-way-to-ask-larian-to-give-us
I followed the steps it is done!!~~~ omg omg
Yooo! Thanks for the info, anon!!!
The latest patch just made my heart so, so happy. I feel like the last couple of years have been dominated by horrifying reports coming out of gaming companies and the games themselves releasing long before they were complete, so to get BG3 that has so much passion poured into it (yes, even with the Act 3 hiccups) AND a company that's listening to the playerbase?
Tumblr media
I've been around the fandom block and am no stranger to the "Is there actually a chance of this happening or are we just happily delusional about it?" game. Even if Larian hadn't already given us Minthara though (demonstrating that such changes are totally on the table) I think Zevlor has a good shot because it would be so easy to include him. Not necessarily from a coding perspective (idk anything about the actual construction of games), but rather from a narrative perspective. He essentially disappears from the story between rescuing him in Act 2 and reappearing in the final battle, meaning there's nothing on his end that needs reworking if we were to stick him in camp instead. Plus, we already have so many characters who act as temporary, non-combat members: Barcus, Volo, Halsin prior to lifting the curse, etc. I mean, it would be amazing to have Zevlor as a combat companion and/or romance-able, but even if we don't get that I'd LOVE to have him bopping around with some extra dialogue.
God, think of the possibilities though. A new questline where you can help Zevlor regain his oath, or maybe help him prove himself to the tieflings again. A late game romance option for players who didn't get one ironed out by the end of Act 1. Unique interactions depending on if you've saved certain objects (you can give him back his sword like you give Shadowheart the flower/idol). Similar to Nere being trapped, a semi-timed chance to rescue him from Orin before he shows up dead in your camp, complete with threatening letters about the "pet" she's having so much fun with. Obviously some options are taller orders than others, but if Larian is willing to adapt the game's story rather than just fixing performance issues - which it very much seems they are with Minthara and that epilogue - this is a PERFECT opportunity.

YOOO time for more she-ra rewatch
lolol at myself bc when I opened Netflix it was clear I'd left it paused right at the end of that sword-dragging scene eheheheheheh
so I watched it again
ahem, anyway
s1 ep 10, the beacon
my headphones aren't buzzing this time, thank fuck
(lol I got real distracted during this one)
Tumblr media
oh right they all think Entrapta's dead
Also ADORA STOP
Tumblr media
I mean I can't blame any of them for feeling that way
lol and then I got distracted and wrote a bit on my fic--I got some ideas at work today and wanted to pursue them.
and by "ideas" I mean I suddenly thought "hey remember that one bad breakup when you were 23, how the weekend after when you were alone in the house you cried so hard you worried you couldn't stop and started to panic and hyperventilate, and it only ended because a friend called to check on you? you should put that in the fic :D"
back now.
Tumblr media
I dunno if they meant to do this, but to me it looks like Adora's WAY more upset than Glimmer and Bow are. I know part of it is her blaming herself.
Tumblr media
yeah that's not good
"I'll recharge, stop glitching, and my mom never has to know :)" that's not how that works bb but okay
Tumblr media
(hordak is speaking here)
And...that's a good point. She-Ra is even more dangerous than Hordak thought before, because she was part of the Horde and knows a LOT about them.
Tumblr media
BAHAHAH I WAS WAITING FOR THIS
So this is one of the episodes I watched the first time with Daci over rabb.it. (That was actually our first "date," which is THE MOST LESBIAN THING EVER. Literally watching She-Ra online together in voice chat because we were long-distance.)
And I know this because I made a joke post about it to tumblr referencing K/DA, my fandom obsession at the time. That was on April 30th, 2019. I think that was the day Daci bought the plane tickets for their first visit. They moved in with me less than a year after that first visit.
Okay I looked up that date in our discord chats and
Tumblr media
EIGHT HOURS lolol okay we watched the show the day before I made the post. Also Daci had just bought the plane tickets I was right-- that visit was the last weekend in June.
We'd been flirting for months but I didn't actually believe Daci was serious about it until they bought the plane tickets. And then the NEXT WEEKEND after watching she-ra and Daci buying those tickets my dad had a brain hemorrhage and we took him off life support a few days after that, and Daci and I started video chatting EVERY DAY because I was alone in the house and off work for two weeks of bereavement leave.
ANYWAY OFF TOPIC
Fuck one of my keys is acting up and the the paintbrush I use to dig under my keys to fix it is upstairs where Daci is sleeping, if I drop any r's that's why
Tumblr media
I mean that seems fair. Also: Emily!!!
Tumblr media
I'm trying to suppress how hard this is making me laugh and FAILING
Also her nose is wiggling omggg
Tumblr media
Did you know it's canon that Catra is entirely covered in hair like an actual cat? Or at least it's "word of God" via the showrunners on twitter. But outside of fan art by furries nooooobody includes that. Especially not in fic. Which is fine. Because I personally do not want to write that. Her ears are fuzzy, the marks on her arms are just birth marks, but the hair on her body is just normal human body hair and that's it.
THAT SAID I think I've only read one fic that intentionally included her sense of smell being stronger, and it was referenced in ONE LINE for smutty reasons eheheheheheh
Anyway it's this fic and it's by a friend and it's good
Tumblr media
SURPRISE!
Tumblr media
Catra's expression is so often some variation on "...the fuck?"
Tumblr media
Literally read a fic last week with a scene about how getting ill in the Horde was a good way to end up dead from a combination of bad nutrition/healthcare and being a victim of bullies but I cannot remember which fic it was
NO WAIT it's this one I think. I've still got two chapters to go reading that fic because I've been intentionally savoring it, the character stuff is just SO GOOD and it's just such the opposite of my own writing style. (But it's also the fic that has a scene of "Adora has a nightmare and injures Catra in her sleep," and I really hope nobody thinks I copied it considering I wrote mine before I read it in their fic, aaugh)
Tumblr media
oh god there's a gif I can't find of a guy pressing his lips together like he's trying not to laugh and then looking at the camera and if you know the one: that one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Entrapta and her lack of ability to understand personal space or normal boundaries is just so great but also the phrase "another woman's tail" is just perfection
Tumblr media
Yeah yeah I know Catra's being a manipulative little shithead here but also if I were to meet Entrapta and she didn't mind I would absolutely be twisting her hair CONSTANTLY just like I do my own
Tumblr media
the weird noises she's making must've been so much fun to voice-act
Tumblr media
So like, the whispering woods are like that one forest the hobbits walk through in the book version of lord of the rings where the trees keep like, closing in on them?
Tumblr media
DEEP SIGH
Tumblr media
that's the name of a g-idle song
Tumblr media
oh right I see what's going to happen here
Tumblr media
DO YOU THO
DO YOU
Tumblr media
she's trying to comfort Shadow Weaver after immediately insulting her, bc of course she is
Tumblr media
DIE, BITCH
"I was hard on you, I won't deny it; and I won't apologize. I just wanted to prepare you for the world. I just wanted you to be strong. :(" BULL FUCKING SHIT
Tumblr media
well, for a given definition of "strong"
Tumblr media
oh shit
Yeah that's a weird thing to bond over but okay
Tumblr media
I dunno why they did the cute little fangie thing here but I'm not complaining
Tumblr media
Okay so her face is stupid here (couldn't get a screenshot that included the caption and not the terrible face) BUT she really leaned into the sexy voice for this one and I made a noise and my laptop nearly slid to the floor pfft

(quicksandblock) yooo have you seen the lore Q&A Eret did on twitter?? https://twitter.com/Eret_Alt/status/1366276551461900290
there's a lot there but what stands out to me most is that they seem to have a lot in common with Ranboo - both ideologically, and in that they're both still kind of naive about the prospects of being accepted back by the population as a whole after their various betrayals and perceived betrayals. I doubt Eret is the one Ranboo has in mind to team with just because Eret hasn't been online much recently but can you imagine??
COOL NEW ERET LORE DROPPED HELL YEAH
and
*checks notes*
Looks like another character to throw into the steadily growing “let’s bring the server back to its glory days/how it used to be, unity, neutrality/not picking sides, called a traitor” pile
The meta writers are positively thriving.
But yeah, the Eret lore drop has got my Eret analysis brain going again.
I actually had like, a big post about their arc back when the Fundy stuff was happening that I never finished but I’ll dump some of the same thoughts here.
I think it’s interesting. A large majority of the fandom started watching during or after the Election, right? So Eret’s role was largely “that guy who betrayed L’manburg that one time but who is now seeking out Pogtopia for a redemption arc.”
And since most of Eret’s August VODs are long, long gone or very hard to find, including his POV of the L’manburg War and the first Doomsday, the fandom’s collective memory of Eret is that redemption arc but not what came before it.
Which is a bit of a shame, ‘cause Eret had a damn good villain laugh.
They pulled all these cartoonish villain schemes on L’manburg like, who else had the dramatic flair to BLOCK OUT THE FUCKING SUN ABOVE THEM?
King shit.
And those two giant towers that have become such symbols of the L’manburg area?
They were put there to intimidate, to spy on L’manburg from above and see exactly what was going on inside the walls. When Fundy removed one because it cast a shadow over their land and blocked their view of the sky, Eret built it up again reinforced with obsidian like it was no one’s business.
Their POV of the war? After the betrayal?
No regret. No mercy.
Do you feel bad, Dream asked?
Their reply: “Not a bit.”
The switch to redemption did not happen quickly. Eret’s character arc has come miles from where they were in August.
I wanna point something out.
When Eret joined, the first thing he built was his castle, right? I remember watching them carve out the dirt foundations and flatten that piece of the forest long before the Camarvan was even a thing. Dream SMP didn’t have a king before L’manburg. It wasn’t a faction, it wasn’t a kingdom, it was just a universe.
Eret was king in a world that had no need of one.
So when Eret betrayed L’manburg, and Dream gave them that title, it meant nothing. It was just a decoration, a neat little accessory to go with the castle they’d already built. The title was meaningless from the start, everyone knew that. What universe needs a king when everything the light touches belongs to everyone already?
The real reason Eret betrayed was because he didn’t want to be on the losing side, and he already knew which side that would be.
Eret: “You guys offered me land, you guys offered me resources, I mean we were against a force we could not fight. I truly just saw the brighter way.”
When Fundy argued with George about how it should have been George who betrayed Dream after Fundy’s negotiations with him, Eret just laughed and said “George would’ve betrayed you the same!”
Eret told Fundy to bow to him and when he didn’t, shot him in the back as he walked away.
They saw a lost battle and chose to win. They betrayed L’manburg, chuckled to themself and sat on their golden throne with their fresh new robes and said,
“This is what victory looks like.”
They were, as Tommy called them, “a lonely villain,” stood in their tower, watching all the people they’d betrayed recruit two new members in their place and sing the new anthem with their name added in as an insult, not an honor.
He had all the power in the world and he was alone, because he had chosen the pursuit of victory over something greater.
“This is what victory looks like...”
Right? This is victory? This loneliness?
And there, right there, the seeds of regret were sown for the first time.
And over time, they changed. They sought redemption instead. The “greater good,” whatever that really means.
Come Doomsday II, they had new purpose.
“I’ve only ever been interested in protecting the server as a whole, never wanted to pick sides beyond my original mistake. I agree, I fucked up with that original mistake, that wasn’t…that wasn’t me. That wasn’t what I wanted. I was acting in self interest then, but I’ve learned. I’ve learned…we can go on. We can go forth. It is what it is. The path to redemption.”
What I find most interesting, though, is that while the pursuit of victory is gone from their motivations now, they still keep some of the Dream SMP faction’s purpose in the war in mind: returning the server to unity, with no countries. No sides.
"With L’manburg gone, we can move on. Finally. We can finally move on. And it’s been a long time coming – a long time coming – the division which has started with the Camarvan back in the day. With L’manburg gone, we can bring it all back together.”
The glory days, before L’manburg? The good old days, in their eyes, being not during that peacetime after the war but before that country even existed?
Some truths still remain after all this time...
Down with the revolution, boys, it was never meant to be.

Do you think the time jump was necessary?
honestly? yes.
however, i am an admitted time jump lover. so, you know. there's that. i've also watched a lot of shows totally end up trying (and then forgetting about) college so i think having them be closer to their real ages on the show was a smart decision. that doesn't mean i think the way they've done the time jump is the best. there's been a lot of exposition for a plot that was solved once they let bughead work on it for more than 30 seconds when they could have shown more emotional beats of the characters mixed in with some levity to lighten some of nonstop misery of s5.
i think we're always going to have some unanswered questions (and i feel like someone said they were taking the tbk into s6 so we'll get to that when we get to it) when it comes to parts of the storyline but i'm down for what they have given us (showing us that bughead was in contact over those years, them texting like they were hanging out while back in riverdale—that's just fic opportunities for us, you know?) and even tho parts of the fandom are still sitting on high school problems, i'm not and i'm ready for them to get past all of it.
more anons below the cut:
Tumblr media
listen, evan has no business entertaining someone who rants in his dms like that. that's...ridiculous. he's a grown ass man who should be acting professionally, not doing whatever it is he's doing.
i have no idea what he said about b/a before the episode or why he felt the need to do that (engagement???) but it doesn't matter what he means by it, he's a known liar. him baiting them isn't even up for debate, it's something he knowingly does and they keep going back to him for info like this time will have a totally different outcome.
i'm not saying that b/a won't happen (in regards to spoilers we've heard), i'm saying that as an adult who works with teenagers, i find it weird and cringe and totally unprofessional and in the end, when bugvarchoni is back together and they're yelling at evan, he will have created the environment in which he is received.
basically, he did this to himself and if i were his boss and i found out he was handing out spoilers (or outright lying about them) in dms, he'd be updating his resume right about now.
Tumblr media
they needed to rewrite riverdale history to make the palladium storyline make more sense? i don't know, man. i don't care much about hiram (i don't care much about any of the parents tbh).
Tumblr media
no idea but yooo, let's not get my hopes up like that. tho i feel like we saw her in s6 bts? maybe? i think? i don't remember. but also, alice is trash but i also don't want betty to lose almost every family member she has (the blossom mothman inbreeding program notwithstanding) so i vote she retires and goes off to live somewhere (with uncle frank) for the foreseeable future.

Miserix!
YOOO I was hoping someone would send me Miserix for the ask game. He's one of my favorite characters ever since I was a wee lass yet I almost never talk about him for one reason or another. So this is good opportunity to give my Miserix related thoughts.
Content warning for suicide mention in one of the last points btw.
For starters, I find Miserix to be a rather interesting character. This is due to his backstory of being the disgraced former leader of Makuta who was overthrown by Teri and being exiled, desiring. Miserix has this...certain aura of intrigue and mystery due has this...aura of mystery and superiority surrounding him. He isnt a mysterious character by any stretch of imagination, but he def has a vibe of mystery to him.
I love his design so much...Hes a big large dragon with such a kickass design, can you say no to that. I also love how he was designed by a 12 year old girl.
Speaking of...CAN I JUST SAY I LOVE HOW MISERIX CANONICALLY HAS HIS DEFAULT FORM BEING A GIANT RED DRAGON BECAUSE HE FEELS THAT WILL GIVE HIM A SENSE LF SUPERIORITY (+ he likes dragons and feels comfortable in being a dragon form as such). This is why I love this dragon man so much, talk about a chad.
One of the reasons Miserix sticks with me is because of him being one of the few truly neutral characters in the series. Like sure he is a big angry dragon who hates Teridax and wants it all to be destroyed but I don't necessarily think he's evil per say, just someone whose mind was warped by revenge (and even if youd count him as a villain hes different from most other villains). Helps a lot that the object of his revenge was the main villain by say.
Him being an angry dragon who wants revenge is so fucking cathartic and I love it. Since like, sometimes you just want to go apeshit at those who hurt you, ya know. You Miserix, kill Terry like you want to!! Again what a chad!!!
Miserix is one of the most tragic characters in the series when you dissect him. Like, guy was loyal to his duty and mission, was betrayed by his most trusted lietnuant and then almost killed. And that betrayal and isolation degraded his mind to the point he's jusr a mindless beast who wants revenge at this point. And its so sad, especially when you wonder how much he changed due to these experiences.
Speaking of....I think about pre!exile Miserix a lot. Given how the Miserix we see in canon is...heavily affected by Teridax betrayal I wonder what he was before that. What did he value, how did he operate the Brotherhood? Was he deeply focused in his duty or did he have time for other interests and having meaningful relationships? What was his relationship with Teridax like before the latter betrayed him? What about the rest of the Brotherhood? How much did he change, did he have any values or was he just a mindless rage monster? There's so much room for interpretationand speculation and to headcanon and I love that.
The mainthing I can think of is... Pre!Exile Miserix is very driven by duty. Like, in Mutran Chronicles its made clear how he was very invested in his duty and believed in balance and order. It made him having this sense of ...goodness I guess??? Or at the very least that his arrogance was kept in check unlike the rest of the Makuta.
When I was younger I was very "UWU Miserix was good the other Makuta were evil f*cktwits who betrayed him" for a very long time but honestly rereading Mutran Chronicles made me realize that while he certainly had some kind of moral code he was messed up too (see how he convinced Takadox to act as a spy). Like, Miserix was like, lawful neutral at best (chaotic good if you want to stretch it) Def had a moral code to an extent but was not above shady actions.
Speaking of...I kiiinda ship Miserix/Takadox because of those lines that established Miserix hired Takadox to act as Barraki spy in Mutran Chronicles. Like the way Takadox looked at Miserix with concern when the Barraki were leaving the meeting w the BOM just really made me interested in their dynamic despite the fact we know NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT IT. but the little we know gives so much potential for them to hacing a really interesting dynamic. Its a shame that Takadox yeeted off in FOF before he could interactwith his former emplyoer, it wouldve given interesting insight into the two.
I aggressively headcanon that Miserix was the first Makuta ever created, and possibly one of Mata Nuis first creations [since iirg MN created the Makuta while Great Spirits and Artakha created most of the GSR species ]
As a kid I seriously thought Miserix was a girl for a while because his name + design were kinda feminine for my child mind fsr. Because of this misconception I had of him as a child, I have ended up in headcanoning him as nonbinary (either genderfluid or bigender to be more specific, leaning towards the latter tbh). He would more or less default to he/him pronouns due to being more used to them but wouldn't mind being refered with feminine or genderneutral pronouns. That being said, he would probably be VERY against being refered with it/its pronouns due to seeing it as dehumanizing.
Also on a "baby me saw Miserix design as androgynous" I heavily hc his voice as androgynous too. Angry, low and booming yes, but in a way that doesn't sound too masculine. This is tve main reason I'm mixed on his voice in the Ignition stop motion: its too masculine for my taste (that being said the voice sounds super jnique and I always hcd Miserix having a rather unique sounding voice soo)
Break from headcanons and thoughts to say: MISERIX HAS SOME OF THE MOST BADASS LINES IN THE SERIES. So much of his lines are so badass and he def has a lot of my favorite quotes in series. Just so much confidence and badassness oozing him.
I find the fact Miserix was turned into a painting by Teridax incredibly funny. Also cant believe paintings are canon in Bionicle.
I think about post-canon Miserix a lot. Now that Teridax is dead, what now? Where would he go there? Would he still be rage-filled monster ,now just having no purpose for his rage? Or would he just wander purposlessly, feeling like theres no reason for him to exist? Regardless, there would be this emptiness... At some point Miserix whole existence became fixated on Teridax so like....When Teri died it was kinda..what then. Post canon Miserix is by far one of the more interesting post canon characters given how much it wouldve affected him. Eh, knowing how Greg writes hed either done "Miserix is driven mad/still rage filled" in the laziest way possible, come up some really stupid and convoluted thing that was out of tje blue or have him being killed off by Velika or one of his cronies instead of exploring his character in any meaninful way.
On a related note, can we talk about how its canon that in one universe Miserix loosing his purpose made him so depressed he killed himself? I think about that sometimesand just...man guy really was driven by having a duty and purpose.Again, makes me wonder what happened with prime!timeline Miserix post canon.
All in all ,Miserix is great and criminally underrated. Hes both a character thats incredibly simple(angry dragon who wants to kill Teridax) but has potential for complexity in him thanks to all the potential his story has. His story is a tragic one, being given a duty he was willing to commit to his fullest, only to be betrayed by his kind and casted away, this slowly turning him into a rage-obsessed monster we see today.Miserix is such a great and interesting character, and I wish more of the fandom paid attention to him.

Spotlight Post: Canon Soulmate Bonds
Yooo, this is a blog takeover, Mizzy here, ready to champion one of my favourite fictional causes: canonical soulbonds in the Marvel universe.
We all love a good soulbond fic. Words on your body, names on your wrist, red string of fate...so many glorious versions, and all of them *completely awesome*. The problem sometimes with starting a soulbond fic, though, can be all the worldbuilding required to make it work. But what if I was to tell you that no worldbuilding was necessary? That you could technically write a soulbond fic without having to set it in an Alternate Universe? What if you could set your soulbond fic *directly in main canon?*
Marvel 616 delivers you a canonical soulbond mechanic… not once… but at least *twice*. There could be more. There’s a lot of comics to go through and I’m only smol. But here’s the two I know about and I’m here to introduce you to today. :)
The was a ripple of mild confusion around fandom when Kevin Feige announced that the Eternals were getting a title movie in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Created by Jack Kirby in the 1970s, in a wild combination of mythological fascination and spite at DC comics for not letting him finish his New Gods saga, the Eternals were an offshoot of humanity, created by the Celestials for humanity’s protection; this reason for their existence would lead them into their ongoing conflict against the deadly Deviants. There have been a few Eternals runs (notably one run by Neil Gaiman, which did not serve to bring the Eternals the commercial success Marvel was searching for with the title, that nevertheless remains the most fun and accessible Eternals volume), but they’ve not yet really reached wide-reaching traction among even the most die-hard comic fans. The MCU might change that, and here’s hoping, because I love these nearly-immortal idiots, and I’m hoping not to be alone in that for much longer. :D
But even my Eternals-happy soul has to admit, Eternals canon for the most part is dense and can be convoluted, and the spellings—both of their character names and one of the main fun parts of their existence, the Mahd W’yry—are enough to give one a headache. The idea of the Eternals is that they’re long-lived and have interacted with human history over the years in various impactful ways. You might think at first glance that you’ve never heard of the Eternals Sersi, Ikaris, Makkari, but I think you wouldn’t find Circe, Icarus, or Mercury unfamiliar names.
The Mahd W’yry is a symptom of the Eternals being so long-living. In order to stop them going insane, the Eternals have to bond into something known as the Uni-Mind, which basically squishes all their consciousnesses together into one, where they can share memories and blend temporarily into one mind. Regularly bonding into the Uni-Mind allows them to stave off the Mahd W’yry. (Yep, that’s just a headache-inducing spelling of ‘mad worry’, we know.)
Anyway, did you need to know all this? Eh, maybe, a little bit of canned backstory is always handy for you to briefly glance over and promptly forget. Because along with some dense mythological adventures, some glorious angsting across beautiful landscapes, and that ability to turn into a big massive floating brain, the Eternals also gave us a beautiful gift:
The Gann Josin.
In Avengers #361, Ikaris comes down to Earth and decides that Sersi needs to be bonded to Dane Whitman, an Avenger who canonically didn’t have any powers, he was just a *really good guy*, destined for tragedy. Honestly. That’s his bio. Really good guy. Destined for tragedy. The character creation in the 90s was peak talent. Dane, sadly, was in love with another woman, but did this matter to Ikaris? No. Apparently the Eternals don’t know about the dangers of letting himbos like Ikaris have life-changing powers, like the ability to create the Uni-Mind.
Because the power to control the Uni-Mind also gives an Eternal the power to form a Gann Josin bond. And that’s what Ikaris does in Avengers #361—he forces a Gann Josin bond on Eternal Sersi and tragic human Avenger Dane Whitman.
Tumblr media
Gann Josin (sometimes Gan-Josin because what is spelling continuity in Marvel comics) is both the name of the bond, and the title given to an Eternal and their chosen life-mate. It has a bunch of cool side effects. Both Gann Josins get glowing full-red eyes. It’s a really intimate tiny form of the Uni-Mind (without the part where you become a big floating brain), and creates a small scale mental union. The Gann Josin bond makes the Eternal and their partner lifelong soulmates. As the bond progresses, it creates a telepathic/empathic bond that strengthens in time. According to the Eternal Sprite, humans are rarely chosen by Eternals for the Gann Josin.
Now, Dane Whitman does manage to break the Gann Josin several issues later. But… it’s not easy. It’s rare. When Dane manages it, it is called an “astounding act.” It’s pretty dang hard, in other words. There’s every chance your chosen Gann Josins won’t have the mental fortitude of Dane Whitman to break it. (Although, we’re talking about Steve and Tony, and are there any bigger stubborn idiots in the universe? Probably not.)
But Mizzy, I hear you saying. I don’t want to write about Ikaris, even if he is a party king and that sounds pretty nifty. I don’t know anything about the Eternals and I don’t want to go down that gnarly rabbit hole.
That’s totes fine, my friend. I am here to save you. Because in very recent canon, during Jason Aaron’s turn at the helm, the Eternals are all dead. Very dead. That whole Mahd W’yry thing got ‘em, it got ‘em good. But before Ikaris died, he granted his Uni-Mind power to someone we all know and love.
Tumblr media
Yep. Tony Stark. Tony Stark currently has the power of the Uni-Mind.
Which means that Tony Stark can now Gann Josin people.
In Avengers #361, Ikaris performs the Gann Josin by basically just pointing his hands at Sersi and Dane and some light goes WHEEEEEEE!! in their direction, and bam, this rare and special bond is done. And Tony Stark can do that now. To anyone! Unfortunately Ikaris is dead and didn’t leave Tony with an instruction manual. But the point is, he *can*. You can make up all sorts of fun things with this canonical fact (or write your own version because lbr Canon Is Dead; Long Live Canon.)
There are so many possibilities. Does Tony deliberately learn how to use it so he can bond himself to Steve? Does Tony *need* to be able to hear Steve’s thoughts (to thwart some bad guys) and thus end up soulbonded forever to Steve in result? Is Tony’s power activating at random because he can’t control it, and he ends up soulbonding everyone around him? Does he just subconsciously bond himself to Steve without consciously meaning to? Do Tony or Steve want to try it for science?
Gosh, I love comics.
But WAIT. There’s MORE.
It’s not just 1990s comics going ham on the soulbond idea. No, we got some *this year*. Canonical soulbonding? TWICE? In one universe? Two different kinds??
And this time, it’s not in a D-list Marvel title. We’re up the ranks to the big leagues this time, folx, with a brief trek to the world of the Fantastic Four.
In Fantastic Four (Vol. 6) #15, we’re introduced to a Spyre citizen called Sky, a winged team member of the Unparalleled (more cosmic-powered superheroes), who work under The Overseer. (The Overseer, in a burst of beautiful retcon in the way Marvel comics keeps doing to us, is apparently the entity who is responsible for giving the F4 their powers. Huh. The more you know.)
Tumblr media
On the planet Spyre, all children are brought before something called The Great Eye. This measures them against the radiation signature of everyone on the planet, divining who their perfect match is.
Sky looked into The Great Eye, only to find out her match was Johnny Storm, who was 44 light-years away at the time. Long-distance relationships can be tough. Anyway, plot happens, the F4 get stuck on Spyre, get told they can’t leave, and Sky tells Johnny Storm that she is his soulmate. Oh, and she attached a soul binding onto him while he slept. Neat, huh, all the bodily autonomy people get in this universe before being force soulbond to people? So neat, much consent, wow.
Johnny feels a connection to Sky, which is supposed to let us know this lack of choice is a good thing I guess. The Overseer wants Sky to renounce Johnny and crush the F4 which obv doesn’t happen, so of course she leaves The Unparalleled and skips off to Earth to be with Johnny.
Who knows how this relationship is gonna last. I mean, you can look at the rest of Johnny’s relationship history and have a good guess. Who knows. Anyway, Reed and Sue are each other's soulmate, and also share a “Soul Binding”, so there’s some canonical proof right there that maybe this system has some validity going for it.
The soulbond for this form takes the form of a golden bracelet worn on the upper arm, that Sky explains her people call a “Soul Binding”; it represents them as being soul-mates. This bracelet can only be removed by your soulmate. This soulbond doesn’t seem to come with any extra powers, it’s just to show that The Great Eye has measured their radiation signature and declared them a match that is supposed to mean they’re perfectly compatible in every way: spiritually, mentally, and physically.
Tumblr media
I don’t know about you, but I have a pretty good feeling that Steve and Tony might just have matching radiation signatures… Or what if Steve and Tony have perfect matching signatures….with other people? (Someone else on Spyre believes Sky is *their* perfect match, after all!) What if Steve has feelings for Iron Man, but he’s a perfect match with Tony Stark? I feel faint already just thinking about it.
So here you go. Two canonical types of soulbonds for your fannish consideration. Feel free to ask me questions! You can find me on tumblr (@mizzy2k) or on discord (addy#0908).

Riverdale Rewatch Review - Season One
Hey guys! So, as everyone knows, there’s like, this big thing happening in the world right now causing everyone to have to stay inside and a lot of people have way more free time on their hands than they know what to do with. I am one of those people. After I finish my schoolwork I find that barely even half a day has passed. What do I fill that time with? Animal Crossing. But also, watching Netflix.
I’ve wanted to rewatch Riverdale for the longest time, and I figure that now is the best time to do it.
So, the way this will work, I’ll give my overall thoughts and review of the season, my favorite episodes, and then I’m going to give you a play-by-play of my thoughts while rewatching each episode under the break. So, without further ado:
Overall Review
Looking at the bigger picture of everything I know Riverdale has come to be, I think the statement stands true that Season One is one of their strongest season, if not their actual strongest (Season Four has been climbing up there for me in fav seasons).
Watching it all together, the drama seemed evenly paced, and everyone seemed to get the same amount of screen time, including characters we barely see anymore like Kevin and Reggie. There are some interesting shots, and I found myself jammin to some of the songs they had the characters sing as well as the background music.
It was clear that they had a plan, and they knew where they were going. Hints of relationships happened WAY before they became official, and it seemed like everyone was on the same page, which is difficult to say for later seasons (which I will also be making reviews on shortly).
For only having 13 episodes, Riverdale did an excellent job in it’s first season hooking everyone in to the drama and the mystery, including me. I believe it was after the second or third episode when this blog was created, and I’ve been here ever since. This season is responsible for why a lot of fans stuck around, and for why a lot of fans left.
Overall, I would say it had amazing storytelling, character development, cinematic techniques, and everything else you could think of. My final rating would be a 10/10. Even if you don’t like later seasons, you can’t deny this one was really good, and had a lot of classic Riverdale moments -insert gif of Jughead saying “I’m a weirdo” here bc I tried to find it but couldn’t-.
My personal favorite episodes: Episode 6, Episode 10, Episode 13

Time for episode 5 of The Witcher!! I’m just realizing I haven’t been paying attention to episode titles so far, but does anyone ever does when marathoning things on Netflix? So this one is called Bottles Appetites, sounds interesting enough, let’s do this.
Caw caw motherfucker.
I don’t know what this is but seems gross.
Yeah. Gross. Nakey Dude reminds me, somehow, of Hannibal and the Gorgon in Supernatural. Yeah, whatever.
Nooo Mousesack! This is really mean. Bad guys taking the identity of a dear one to trick a protagonist is a very frustrating plot, like, not in a bad way, but in a scream at your screen way, right?
Yennefer desperately wants something, which I suppose is what she sacrificed, because of course it is. It’s all about the babies~
Now she’s working as a Mage Sexologist but not paying taxes...? Okay...? You gotta do what you gotta do in this economy, I suppose.
Ciri is allowed to stay but she has to choose whether to stay or do what she was supposed to do i.e. search for Geralt, because destinyyy~~. Speaking of whom, he is suffering from insomnia and doing what people do when they suffer from insomnia, i.e. searching for a djinn to ask for some rest, as one does. It does not go well, shockingly.
Jaskier gets Magical Asthma which seems unpleasant. I get the plot needs to happen, but I like when he’s talking, and Magical Asthma doesn’t allow him to talk, and it’s a shame. Btw I’m not gonna write a note about how I love him every time he’s on screen because it would get annoying, but, hey, you just know that.
The town has a general doctor but he needs a specialist, which the town doesn’t have so they have to go somewhere else to find one. Who says fantasy isn’t relatable?
Yeah, no, the mage is there but it’s Complicated(TM). Of course.
Now Yennefer is working as a dominatrix? What the hell is happening. She looks great in that outfit but I’m a bit confused, but maybe that’s the whole point, she’s just leading a confusing life.
Which, apparently, is exactly the point. Tissaia pays a visit and says Yennefer is being pure chaos right now, and Magic Cops have been leaving her be so far because she has been acting discreetly and not done damages, but now she’s acting no longer discreetly and she’ll get herself in trouble.
Also apparently Yennefer turns down a teacher’s position at Feminist Hogwarts because she wants more--she wants everything--and every teacher in the audience slowly nods with understanding. Yeah, I know that’s not how I was supposed to read the scene but I think anyone who’s experienced teaching would jump to being a chaotic magical dominatrix if ever given the chance, so.
Geralt needs to pay a fee to see the specialist, that’s just how it works Geralt, don’t make that face. ...okay I want to get access to specialists’ offices for free by using violence too 🥺
I don’t understand what is happening but neither do they, so, okay.
Oh, they’re finally meeting. I don’t know how I expected them to meet, but this probably wasn’t it, or maybe I should have. Anyway, the specialist is Yennefer who is still working as Mage Sexologist and now is holding an orgy at the major’s house, which, okay, creativity is the only key to success in this economy.
I should probably comment on the whole want-need theme of this episode but it feels kind of redundant when you have been in the Supernatural fandom for years. I mean, these are watching notes, not meta, so I’ll just yell THIS EPISODE IS ABOUT DESIRES AND NEEDS to the winds. Which is kinda a theme since the beginning but this episode is like YOOO.
Yennefer makes him tight leather clothing for very important mage business, I suppose. I love how everyone tries to get him to perform hygiene on himself.
Well he’s been sleeping now. Mm, not in a good way.
This episode is so weird lol.
Oh, Geralt is the one the djinn attached itself to, of course! I think I suspected it at the beginning then forgot about it.
Yennefer isn’t making healthy life choices, which isn’t surprising anyone, but still.
And the stylized uterus and ovaries drawn on her belly disappear, another failed attempt.
Well they have weird foreplay but as long as everyone’s happy, great.
Fake Mousesack gets Ciri to go with him, and Dara goes with them too... aaand episode’s over.
It feels I haven’t made many comments on the episode but the episode was already wild enough that it didn’t really require much commenting??
Basically Geralt needs a nap, Yennefer is having a post-university crisis and making unhealthy life choices instead of choosing to work in academia, Jaskier gets Magical Asthma and encounters the intricacies of the healthcare system, this is all very relatable, damn!
I think the episode could have been executed a bit differently because it felt kind of hollow, the previous ones were very intense while this one felt just kind of weird (alright not really the issue) and lacking a spark somehow (that’s more of the issue), or maybe I’m the one who needs a nap. It kinda felt like it needed to bring the characters from point A to point B of the story and it did but a bit mechanically? I mean, I still enjoyed the wild ride but if I need to nit-pick... like, the episode’s concept had potential that it didn’t really explore as it could have.
Next episode is probably going to be an emotionally devastating bloodbath, uh.

So, uh, White Knight
The more I think about it, the more I think it makes sense. Now before the entire fandom disowns me, I want to say that I headcanon Weiss as bi and ship her with all her teammates.
Well, okay, some obvious parallels first. Weiss went to Beacon to preserve her family name. Jaune went to Beacon to carry it on. Weiss is a singer. Jaune is a guitarist. They have similar weapons--rapier for Weiss, sword and shield for Jaune.
No, it's deeper than that. I get if people don't like this ship for, among other reasons, the cliche that the nice guy gets the unnecessarily cold girl. But if it is going this way, it's on the right track. Given how wonderfully subversive this show is, it would be interesting to have the trope completed in a believable manner.
Let's hit the hurdle and examine the possibility of Jaune ending up with a main character. People say Jaune gets too much screentime, he's a self-insert, etc, and yeah, that Jaundice arc from those 5-minute episodes in Volume 1 did drag on. But Jaune does vie with Qrow for the role as main male character, so yes, he would get more screentime and development than many of the other guys in this very girl-oriented show. Jaune's VA has expressed multiple times that he thought Jaune was an idiot in the first three volumes and wanted to slap him. Since Jaune's VA is the head writer, I previously didn't consider White Knight a possibility. Then again, RWBY was always a group effort. On that note, it's exceedingly clear that Jaune is the most ordinary character in the show. He's really not that special. In fact, wanting to be special, or at least honorable, got him to cheat his way into an academy he was nowhere near prepared for.
Weiss enjoys thinking she's special. But at the end of the day, she wouldn't want all the riches in the world if the person who had them didn't treat her well. As hokey as it sounds, she would much rather be with someone who loved and supported her, even if they were ordinary.
When Weiss packs up to run away from home, Myrtenaster's chamber is set to electric Dust. That yellow color hinted Yang would be the first teammate with whom Weiss would reunite--so did Myrtenaster's being set to the same element when Vernal was holding it. But Jaune also represents yellow, and Weiss is going to need a new home now that she's left behind her old one. Obviously, she's found family in Team RWBY. I think they're an advancement of her bond with Winter. That would mean she also needs an advancement of her bond with Klein. Jaune seems like a good fit. They're genuinely nice guys who care about her, and they derive inspiration from the same fairy tale. Jaune mentioned in the dance arc that he grew up with seven sisters. Weiss is based off of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. That is something I can't ignore.
It would be interesting to find out Jaune has dynamics with his sisters that reflect Weiss's dynamics with Winter and Whitley. It'd be another pointer for Jaune and Weiss to become great friends, but also a point that they may develop a romantic bond.
(UPDATE 7/25/19: See, here’s what I’m thinking. Jaune grew up with seven sisters, well enough to make him hold a sign saying “HELP”. But he probably grew up having a loving sibling bond with them. Weiss grew up surrounded by her crap-ass father and the son he was turning Whitley into, shut inside the manor as an extension of his ego. These parallels are a good compare/contrast between Weiss and Jaune that complement their bond and quite possibly, give Weiss closure for the terrible way she lived.)
And this show is super color-coordinated too, like you wouldn't believe. I'm not sure yet how (or if) Weiss and Jaune's designs are meant to complement each other, but given that Weiss's father values symmetry, ending up with someone who doesn't match her aesthetically may be a thing for her. Additionally, while Jaune's outfit is coordinated with Pyrrha, I can't help but notice that it has red and black, and he has yellow hair. I won't say as much about his armor, though I can't help but think it kind of looks like a white heart. Yeah, I know, it's a stretch.
Even then, Weiss's Beacon outfit had a red collar, and she was way too hot then. Post-Fall, she wore a blue dress for the manor, where it was too cold. Does that mean one of her future outfits will contain a warm color, and the environment in which she gets it will be just right? (yeah, I know, that's more of a Fr33z3rburn nod but…yellow.) (yooo UPDATE 12/11/18 for this...as of V6, both Weiss and Jaune are wearing red clothes to remember someone important to them.)
Now let's look at their battle classes. Weiss can summon her own ghostly knight now that she's defeated that possessed suit of armor her trailer. But who told her there was no going to Beacon if she didn't win that fight? Her father. Her father, who was so bent on controlling her that he set her up against something he thought she couldn't beat in order to crush her dreams. To tell her that she's nothing without him, his property. That superior attitude is in her brother to some extent, along with all the guys who have tried to romance her for the perks of her family name. "Liars and pretenders only seek to achieve their ends." And one of the few men she had a bond with, her grandfather, is gone. There's been everything to hint that Weiss has been so damaged by men that she sees all of them as potential threats. It would be interesting, and beautifully hopeful, if she believably found herself attracted to a real knight who really messed up at first, but acted in earnest and has always been interested in her personality.
Yes, Jaune is interested in Weiss's personality. More on that later. For now, I recall a shot of him being amazed by Weiss's ability in a tournament fight in V3. This show doesn't do throwaway shots. These two seconds are going somewhere.
Here's the next hurdle. I can see how people might worry that White Knight would "replace" Pyrrha or treat Weiss like a prize for The Nice Guy's persistence…but I would encourage the consideration that entering a relationship with Weiss would be more like closure. Jaune messed up at Beacon, he really did. He had no idea that Pyrrha was into him, and continued to pursue Weiss despite being turned down multiple times. He didn't treat Weiss like a real person, but rather as some delicate flower who needed to be wooed a certain way. But I think something critics miss is his earnestness. Jaune is the most earnest character in the show. He did what he did not out of malice, entitlement, or seeking advantage, but because he really was infatuated with Weiss and wanted to show that he cared about her. Neptune wasn't looking to exploit Weiss either, but the two of them always seemed to be interested in each other on the basis of "smooth guy" and "lovely lady" perceptions. Jaune is the only suitor who has been interested in Weiss for her personality.
Don't get me wrong, his talking about her to Ren was (intentionally?) cringy. But after he lost Pyrrha, Jaune went through considerable growth, and it's not just because of manpain or whatever. He's been striving to become a better person ever since Volume 1. It started with training to become a better leader and Hunstman, then expanded into general self-growth.
And see, that's another thing. What makes the most ordinary character extraordinary is that he genuinely tries to become a better person. He started in Volume 1, when he agreed to his moonlight sparring practices with Pyrrha and talked with Ruby about what it meant to be a leader. The only other character who's continuously made an effort to become better from the beginning? Weiss. They're way different from who they were when they first went to Beacon. After all that's happened, they're beginning to appreciate each other in a new light. Jaune sees Weiss for the capable, independent, difficult person she is, and Weiss no longer treats him with needless intolerance. Now that they get to be "real" around each other, it could be possible for Weiss to naturally become attracted to him.
She wouldn't be a prize. First of all, it's RWBY, not RJBY. Plus, she's not going to run off with someone out of some feeling of indebted servitude. She defeated a hive of Lancers while stumbling around a moving aircraft, busted herself out of an infamous bandit camp, stared down the supposed Fall Maiden's attempts at intimidation, squared off against the same supposed maiden, and defiantly Support Mained her newly reunited team while gouging the torso of an enraged Dust addict with the Lancer she blew up earlier, all in one volume. She also told Raven to suck it. She don't need no man. If she ended up with Jaune it would be because she wanted it that way.
"But that's forgetting Pyrrha!" It's not. When Cinder walked off of Jaune to kill Weiss, she summoned a fiery duplicate of Pyrrha's weapon. So Jaune is like "Nooo!" because it's Volume 3 all over again. While he's sitting up over Weiss's dying body, he says, "No, it wasn't supposed to be like this!"--which is what Pyrrha said when she couldn't tell Jaune that her life had taken a dramatic change. After Jaune says this, of course, his remarkable reserve of Aura spikes up--the Aura that Pyrrha unlocked--and he begins to heal Weiss. When Nora says this must be his Semblance, he corrects her, remembering that Pyrrha once told him he had a lot of it. He still believes her. Romance or friendship, the ultimate spark for Weiss and Jaune began with closure for Pyrrha.
Derailing for a second here, Jaune's being the one to save Weiss at the battle for Haven is an interesting parallel to Ruby's watching Pyrrha die at the fall of Beacon. It's a team leader being mingled with significance with the other leader's partner. Also, Jaune was not physically present for Pyrrha's death, and Ruby was knocked out before Weiss's almost-death. This makes for leader bonding between Ruby and Jaune.
And for the idea that it's too painful for Jaune to ever be with anyone besides Pyrrha, that nobody could ever be closure for her in any way, shape, or form…she was 17. Jaune and Pyrrha knew each other for less than two semesters at a training academy. That doesn't mean Pyrrha doesn't matter, or that she and Jaune didn't impact each other in a meaningful way, but they were so young, and had barely met. Jaune doesn't have to contend with her death every day until he faces his gravestone. Like, let people live, y'all. lol.
Weiss wouldn't exist as Jaune's closure, either. She's her own character with a distinctly separate life from Pyrrha. Rather than carrying on who Pyrrha was in Jaune's life, she would take it in a different direction. She's intertwined with Jaune's arc (siiiiigh) to some extent, anyhow. She introduced Jaune to Pyrrha, and got a bit of a sis moment when Pyrrha flung Jaune out of Weiss's personal space ("Sorry!") From the beginning Weiss and Pyrrha were a study in contrasts, and both had some kind of romantic tie to Jaune. How lovely it would be, then, if the love triangle of RWBY took such care to portray itself with friendship and depth!
It would tie in with Ruby, too. Ruby witnessed Pyrrha's death, and is Weiss's academy partner. There is something about the potential for Ruby, Weiss, and Jaune to mourn Pyrrha together to bring a further beautiful closure to it all. As witness and teammate, the two leaders could mourn who Pyrrha was. Weiss could mourn who she thought Pyrrha was, and how she pushed away the real person in favor of ideals. She is at least going to be friends with Jaune now. In a way, Weiss could bridge a gap between Ruby and Jaune to make them all closer.
And, you know, Snow White's prince did kiss her out of her coma. In this version, Jaune revived Snow White after she got lanced through the side by a fiery javelin.
Also, can you imagine how cool the subversion would be? Weiss is not royalty per se, but in this case the man would be the one moving from humble beginnings to a relationship with a princess. Speaking of, Jaune is supposed to be descended from a line of Hunters. Who's to say his family's not pretty well off anyway?
People can disagree with the romantic side of all this. If you don't like White Knight, that's okay. But if you can't allow that they could be friends, I honestly think you have a rotten opinion. Sometimes I feel like people are vehemently against the idea of Jaune and Weiss exchanging any kind of friendly contact because Jaune is a guy. They'd make boss bros, without necessarily having to be a couple.
So, considering all that, I think White Knight has the potential to be a canon ship. I mean, Beauty had her Beast, and Snow White had her prince. (I'm hoping this means we get a GAYYYYYYYYYYY/BI GOLDILOCKS but hey, who's to know) What I'm really trying to say here is...
If Weiss is Snow White, Jaune may be her prince.
UPDATE 3/30/2019: In the V6 finale when Ruby tells the military her team is going to fight for Argus, Weiss and Jaune’s weapons are standing side-by-side in the back of the ship. Duuuuuuuuuuuuude. And their eyes are different shades of blue??
UPDATE 7/18/19: They’re also support mains lol. For real though...Weiss’s father is ultimately behind the hell of Weiss’s life. It’s only fitting that part of her story’s closure involves a good, strong bond with a male character. Are you really going to tell me it’s going to be Neptune or Ren or Qrow or Sun. Or Klein, who she already has a good relationship with. Weiss and Jaune are being set up for each other in a very, very significant way and romantically, you can’t convince me it would be anyone else. Anyway, I’m queer so if you’re gonna sling accusations at me that I hate wlw relationships I guess I better go cry in bi
UPDATE 7/21/19: Their fye-exclusive figures have gold and silver hair. Come on. Also, they both hate themselves? Weiss is confirmed via her “self-inflicted wounds” in “Path to Isolation” and Jaune was straight-up suicidal in the battle for Haven.
UPDATE 7/29/19: When they’re arriving to Atlas, Weiss briefly looks at Jaune across the airship, smiling. Because of him, she can see home again.
