Finalists of the 2023 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards
Tumblr media
Dispute by Jacek Stankiewicz from Kraków, Poland: 'I caught this scene while watching birds in the Bialowieza Forest. Young greenfinch was still fed by parents. However, from time to time birds looked like having argument. My friends interpret this scene in two ways: A young naughty kid is arguing with a parent. Or one kid is reporting to the parent that its brother did something wrong: "Look he has broken the glass in the window"'

'Excuse me sir but I think you're a little too young to be smoking' by Dakota Vaccaro from Victor, United States: 'While I was working deep in the Virginian woods, a family of grey foxes took up residence under the deck of the abandoned cottage next to my work housing. One day while practicing their hunting skills on bits of moss and branches, one of the kits lunged at a small chunk of wood and started rolling around with his prize. Tired after his hunt the kit lounged on his belly still holding the wood in his mouth which gave the strong resemblance of a cigar. I was very envious of the kit at this moment cause who wouldn't want to just lay around all day relaxing'
Tumblr media
The Rainforest Dandy by Delphine Casimir from Brussels, Belgium: 'This picture was taken in the monkey forest in Ubud, Bali. This place is a crazy place where monkeys are king! Sometimes they give a show, sometimes they climb on you to look for fleas or steal the piece of biscuit you are trying to eat'
Tumblr media
Otter Ballerinas by Otter Kwek from Singapore: 'An arabesque smooth coated otter'
Tumblr media
Picture me! Picture me!! by Dikla Gabriely from Yokneam, Israel: 'A brown bear in Finland who definitely did everything to make me pay attention to him and focus on him and not the other bears'
Tumblr media
Boing! by Lara Mathews from Melbourne, Australia: 'Taken at Westerfolds Park, a beautiful and surprisingly wild pocket of land in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, famous for its kangaroo population. The mob was enjoying some morning sunshine when this joey decided to get silly and try his hand at boxing'
Tumblr media
Living the Moment by Kawing Chiu from Staten Island, United States: 'Relax, lay back and enjoy the warm sun... This seal is scratching its face and it is seen lying on the side while his head is supported by his flipper. This image makes the seal like the reclining Buddha statue'

aot boys x guilty pleasures
a/n: this is me being self indulgent and having a lil fun so forgive the shitposting but also feedback is always appreciated mwah
Tumblr media
eren loves the shit out of nature documentaries you'll leave him alone one saturday night and you'll come back to find him sprawled on the couch watching life of mammals or some shit on netflix lmao you'd be on a date and he'd get suddenly excited enough to hit you with random facts like “btw did you know that the average blood pressure of a giraffe is around 300/190?” he'd literally barge in rooms with a “babe omg hummingbirds are like the only birds that can fly backwards” and you'd just be sitting on the toilet with a very unimpressed look but he's cute 12/10 would make a good park ranger or whatever
armin is lowkey obsessed with youtubers like he legitimaly sits down and watches hours on end of unboxing/reaction videos or travel vlogs jfc and it's always the dumb stuff ya know like person x unboxing the same phone in 10 different colors or person y reacting to drake's new single and THAT controversial lyric. it's exhausting really he'd be in bed at 3am still going through chrissy's 27 min travel vlog about some bali vacation gone wrong and don't even get me started on drama and internal feuds or breakups oh my god he has a whole playlist of breaking my silence videos on youtube to keep track of who's said what so he can pick the best side
you've introduced jean to the world of fandoms and fanfiction and at first he was all like nah that's too weird but now he has his own ao3 account and eats the weirdest most hilarious shit up, will also use acquired terms in the wrongest way like you'd be watching bridgerton together and he'd suddenly nod to himself with a OOOO TRIGGER WARNING THEY BOUT TO FUCK lmao he's obsessed tbh his twitter is filled with commentary on random chapters he's screenshot and that I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP titanic gif posted over and over again like no honey you will not we've moved past that 10 years ago
oh god connie is such a chronic playlist creator he'd have one for EVERYTHING and he genuinely spends hours selecting the perfect most appropriate songs and titles for each one, you best believe before you first started dating he's made one for you called “i like you idgaf about your boyfriend” which came with a weird ass mix of sweet stuff like just the way you are by bruno mars and cash shit by megan thee stallion lmaooo he's so random he thinks he's good at it too and you don't have the heart to tell him that “get down dirty bedroom sexy lapdance music” ain't a good title. it's kinda attractive that he's not a music snob tho like he'd be blasting country music classics while cooking, rap mixtapes when he's taking a shower or full on broadway showtunes when driving, he also has a cute voice that cracks on higher notes but it secretly turns you on how deep in the moment he is while screaming to defying gravity in the car
levi gets a weird kick out of serial killer documentaries or real footage of their interviews/trials, also listens to A LOT of true crime podcasts and TAKES NOTES about the most interesting cases to check if he'd be able to solve the unsolved ones and he'd always test you as well? you'd be reading a book in bed and he'd plop next to you with a dead serious look on his face asking shit like “would you help some random guy with a cast on his arm carry his bags?” 🤨 out of the blue like ?????? baby that's kinda weird can you not but it's really just him trying to flex his big big brain thank fuck he's not an actual cop he'd be insufferable (and way less hot)
to absolutely no one's surprise reiner's guilty pleasure has to do with you, the man's all about you (and hockey), you've asked him to take a bath with you once and now not a single motherfucking week goes by without him looking at you big big puppy eyes asking “bath???” most evenings after work. it doesn't even have to lead to anything he's just content basking in warm water and bubbles with you in his lap, he gets to massage shampoo into your scalp if you want to wash your hair and is now a pro at creating the perfect atmosphere with oils and dimmed lights and omg don't even get me started on candles, he's memorized your favorite scents and now also has his own preferences, catch him walking around a yankee candle store at least twice a month, girls working there ask this big scary grumpy guy if he needs help and he'd reply with the softest most polite & specific hi hello yes actually i need to stock up on sparkling cinnamon and snow globe wonderland tyvm
porco 100% checks his naked self out in the mirror lmaooo i know this shouldn't count as something people wouldn't believe he'd do but it's kinda a guilty pleasure i guess??? he finds putting clothes on a lil depressing and knows he's hot. sometimes you'd catch him doing that after showering and the man would be so fucking thirsty for compliments cause what is he supposed to do with muscles and abs and prominent biceps if you won't drool over them a little? he's annoying & also gets soooo whiny if you don't indulge him like :( do you not think your dashing boyfriend is cute :( while flexing, also always tries to convince you to take your clothes off as well for “inspection purposes” to which you simply flick his forehead lol whether you end up pressed against that very mirror 10 minutes later it's between you and him xoxo

Animal of the Day!
Javan Ferret-Badger (Melogale orientalis)
Tumblr media
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Indonesia
Size (Weight/Length)- 2 kg; 40 cm
Diet- Bird eggs; Small mammals; Insects; Fruits
Cool Facts- The Javan ferret-badger is a mustelid native to very select regions of rainforest throughout Java and Bali. Small groups of these ferret-badgers seek out empty burrows to make their home but are capable of digging out their own tunnel system. Being mostly carnivorous, the Javan ferret-badger generally hunts on the ground but is capable of scaling extremely tall trees when searching for eggs and fruit. These little dudes are quick to adapt and often raid picnic sites and garbage cans in National Parks. Indonesia is heavily populated by humans, resulting in habitat destruction and agriculture but the Javan ferret-badger is as comfortable living in a city as it is in the rainforest.
Rating- 11/10 (The perfect mask for the perfect bandit.)

June 19, 2023 - Bar-winged Prinia or Bar-winged Wren-warbler (Prinia familiaris)
Found on the islands of Sumatra, Java, and Bali in Indonesia, these prinias live in a variety of habitats, including scrubland, mangroves, gardens, and parks. Foraging alone or in pairs during the breeding season and in flocks of 12 to 15 birds at other times of the year, they eat insects and their larvae, picking prey from leaves and the ground. They build oblong domed nests with top entrances attached with spiderwebs and plant fibers to low shrubs near the ground. Females lay clutches of two to four eggs. They are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to recent population declines caused by trapping for the songbird trade.

The official bird of Bali in the former Jurong Bird Park. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
Shooting against the light, the exposure was biased brighter by just 1/3 stop but had need to be brightened further in post. The colour was also a little desaturated and had to be intensified some 40 percent.

Underrated Summer Travel Ideas: Discover Hidden Gems Around the World
When it comes to summer travel, popular destinations like Paris, Bali, or the Caribbean often come to mind. But what about those hidden gems that offer unique experiences without the crowds? This year, why not try something different? Here’s a list of underrated summer travel ideas that promise adventure, culture, and relaxation — all in off-the-beaten-path locations.
1. Georgia — The Jewel of the Caucasus
Tucked between Europe and Asia, Georgia is a country that offers a stunning mix of landscapes, from snow-capped mountains to rolling vineyards. During summer, the weather is perfect for hiking in the Caucasus Mountains, exploring ancient monasteries, or enjoying Tbilisi’s vibrant arts scene. Don’t miss the chance to taste Georgian wine — some of the world’s oldest!
2. Faroe Islands — Nature’s Best-Kept Secret
Located between Iceland and Norway, the Faroe Islands are an archipelago known for their dramatic cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and rugged coastlines. With fewer tourists compared to Iceland, the Faroe Islands offer a tranquil experience for nature lovers. Summer is the ideal time to hike, bird-watch, or simply soak in the serene beauty of the fjords.
3. Ljubljana, Slovenia — Europe’s Green Capital
Often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors, Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana, is a charming, eco-friendly city with a rich history and vibrant culture. Stroll along the Ljubljanica River, explore the medieval Ljubljana Castle, or relax in Tivoli Park. With its lively outdoor cafes and summer festivals, Ljubljana is perfect for those who love a blend of culture and relaxation.
4. Salento, Italy — Beyond the Amalfi Coast
Italy is famous for its well-trodden tourist spots, but the region of Salento, in the southernmost part of Puglia, offers a more laid-back alternative. Think crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and charming towns like Lecce, known as the “Florence of the South.” The region is also known for its delicious seafood and rustic countryside.
5. Svaneti, Georgia — A Hidden Mountain Paradise
For adventure seekers, Svaneti in Georgia is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Nestled in the Caucasus Mountains, this remote region offers stunning hiking trails, medieval stone towers, and breathtaking scenery. The summer months are perfect for trekking, mountain biking, and exploring the traditional villages scattered across the region.
6. Isle of Skye, Scotland — Mystical Landscapes and Cozy Hideaways
Scotland’s Isle of Skye is renowned for its rugged landscapes, misty mountains, and dramatic cliffs. While Scotland might not be the first place you think of for a summer vacation, Skye’s mild summer weather is ideal for hiking the Quiraing, exploring the Fairy Pools, or visiting the iconic Eilean Donan Castle. The island’s cozy inns and local pubs add a warm touch to the adventure.
7. Kanazawa, Japan — The Lesser-Known Cultural Hub
While Kyoto and Tokyo steal most of the spotlight, Kanazawa is an underrated gem that offers a glimpse into traditional Japan without the crowds. Known for its well-preserved Edo-period districts, samurai houses, and beautiful Kenroku-en Garden, Kanazawa is perfect for a cultural summer trip. Don’t forget to try the local seafood, especially the fresh sushi at Omicho Market.
8. Gdansk, Poland — Baltic Beauty
Gdansk, located on Poland’s Baltic coast, is a city rich in history, culture, and architectural beauty. With its picturesque Old Town, maritime museums, and proximity to sandy beaches, Gdansk is an ideal summer destination. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Motlawa River, visit the historic Westerplatte, or relax at the nearby resort town of Sopot.
9. Cape Verde — Africa’s Tropical Oasis
For those looking for a tropical getaway, Cape Verde, an archipelago off the northwest coast of Africa, offers beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a unique blend of African and Portuguese cultures. Whether it’s hiking the volcanic landscapes of Fogo Island or lounging on the serene beaches of Boa Vista, Cape Verde provides a relaxing and exotic summer escape.
10. Kotor, Montenegro — Adriatic Beauty Without the Crowds
Kotor is a charming coastal town located in Montenegro, surrounded by stunning fjords and mountain scenery. Unlike the crowded cities of Dubrovnik or Split in neighboring Croatia, Kotor offers a more peaceful Adriatic experience. Explore the medieval Old Town, hike up to the Kotor Fortress, or take a boat trip to the Blue Cave.
11. Matera, Italy — The City of Caves
Matera, located in the Basilicata region of Italy, is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. Known for its “sassi” (cave dwellings), Matera offers a unique and off-the-beaten-path experience. Wander through the ancient cave churches, enjoy the local cuisine, and take in the views from the Murgia National Park.
12. Valletta, Malta — Mediterranean Magic
Valletta, Malta’s capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a rich history, stunning architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene. The city offers beautiful views of the Mediterranean, bustling markets, and a variety of summer festivals. Enjoy a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon or explore the historic streets of this underrated summer gem.
13. Guatemala — Central America’s Hidden Treasure
While Costa Rica and Mexico attract much of the attention in Central America, Guatemala offers equally stunning natural beauty and rich cultural experiences. From exploring the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal to relaxing on the shores of Lake Atitlán, Guatemala is perfect for a unique summer adventure.
14. Alentejo, Portugal — Tranquil Countryside Retreat
Portugal’s Alentejo region is a hidden gem known for its rolling vineyards, medieval towns, and serene beaches. Unlike the crowded Algarve, Alentejo offers a more relaxed pace with plenty of opportunities for wine tasting, exploring ancient castles, and enjoying the unspoiled beauty of the Atlantic coast.
15. Bhutan — The Land of the Thunder Dragon
For a truly unique and off-the-grid summer destination, consider Bhutan, a small Himalayan kingdom known for its stunning landscapes, Buddhist monasteries, and commitment to Gross National Happiness. Summer is a great time to explore Bhutan’s lush valleys, trek to the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery, and immerse yourself in the country’s rich culture.
Conclusion
While popular summer destinations have their appeal, there’s something uniquely rewarding about exploring lesser-known places. These underrated travel ideas offer not only stunning landscapes and rich cultural experiences but also the joy of discovering hidden gems. So, this summer, dare to venture off the beaten path — you might just find your new favorite destination.
Best Regards
