congrats on 5k!!
for the prompts: 11 with maximum fluff please :)
Thank you ❤️
11. "Are you taking his side against me?"
Steve and Eddie had an agreement when they started dating to no matter what always make time for the kids. Steve was worried the kids would feel abandoned and Eddie didn't want to be the guy that took Steve away from his family.
Saturdays became family days. Sometimes they'd go over to the Hopper-Byers for a BBQ, or to the bowling alley and die from brain freezes after Steve easily defeated them all, or to the arcade where they'd cheer Mad Max to another high score.
This week was a games night at Steve's house. The kids were all sleeping over, a couple mattresses from the house's many room had been dragged into the living room for the kids to dogpile onto later when they watched a movie. For now they were arguing over which game to play.
"Monopoly has the most players."
"Yeah but you always cheat as the banker and El just gives everyone her money."
"I think we should share our money, do you think sharing is bad? What about Twister?"
"Max can't play twister with her bad back, what about Clue?"
"No Mike always let's Will peak at his cards and Will always wins."
Steve feels the beginning of a stress headache coming on and decides to put an end to this, "Let's just play monopoly, Will is right it has the most players, I'll be the banker and El can give money to whoever she wants."
El sticks her tongue out at Mike but the party agrees. An hour later Steve wishes they'd just played connect four.
"Pay up Edward!"
"No you're in jail I ain't paying a criminal!"
"You literally sell drugs!"
"Yeah but Hopper doesn't let me get caught!"
"It's the rules to pay me!"
"I don't care!"
"Steve!"
"Steve!"
Steve closes his eyes sighing, "Eddie pay Dustin, it's literally a white space it's like five bucks."
"Are you taking his side against me?" Eddie pouts trying to give Steve his best doe eyes.
"Yes Eddie, our son needs his five bucks to buy his harmonica for jail, do you not want him to persue music," Steve giggles.
Eddie giggles back, handing over the money. El passes Eddie a ten dollar note as a replacement, "Here Eddie we can share."
The table erupts in chaos again but Steve can't help but smile at his family, they won't finish the game, no-one ever does but later they'll all curl up in front of the tv and it'll feel like home.

25. Angst that ends in fluff #Bhits5k
25. Adopting a Pet
Steve had always wanted a pet. Every birthday, every Christmas he'd ask his parents for one. He didn't care what kind, big or small. There was always an excuse.
"A dog would rip up the cushions and dig up the yard, Steven."
"A cat would shed everywhere and rip the curtains, Steven."
"A fish isn't very manly, Steven."
"A snake is too dangerous, Steven."
"You'll get bored of a hamster, Steven."
Steve still desperately wanted a companion, something to keep him company while his parents were away, something to care for, something to love.
He once found a tiny kitten out by the playground. He took it home and hid it in his room, sneaking her scraps until his parents left town again. The kitten would sleep on his chest at night keeping him warm and soothing him with its purrs. Steve would've kept that kitten hidden in his room forever, but a week later he found a missing poster for it. The little boy to who he returned it almost cried when Steve showed up at the house with the bundle of fluff. Steve resigned himself to a petless life after that, on his next birthday he just asked for a baseball.
Eddie had always wanted a pet but never dared asked for one. Growing up he knew his dad was dangerous, he didn't want a little animal getting in the way of that anger. Eddie's father would throw cans at the strays around the trailer park and come home and hurt Eddie if he had a bad day, which was always.
Eddie would still sneak the strays some of what little dinner he had. Out his bedroom window, he'd feed a couple dogs and an old cat the rest of his microwave dinner. He cried when the old cat stopped coming by.
When he moved in with Wayne he still didn't ask for a pet, he understood a pet was another mouth to feed and he didn't want to be a further burden on his uncle despite the man claiming otherwise. He still fed the new trailer park strays, and he put out water for them in the summer, making sure it didn't freeze over in the winter.
Now he was older, he and Steve were freshly moved into their new apartment downtown. The apartment was small and poorly lit but it was the first place Steve could truly call his home. Eddie came home one day from work when he heard it. He poked his head into their bedroom, Steve standing in front of the closet a guilty look on his face.
"Steve, what's in the closet?"
"Well, certainly not me anymore."
"Hardy har, I'm serious what're ya hiding in there?"
Steve sighs before turning and grabbing something from inside. When he turns back around Eddie sees the tiny ball of fur in his boyfriend's hands.
"She was crying by the trashcan and she was just so small and I couldn't just leave her there, but I know I should've just taken her to the shelter, she's another mouth to feed and her fur will get everywhere and-"
Eddie cuts off Steve's rambling by wrapping his arms around his shoulders, "Hey, hey sweetheart, it's ok, I'm not mad, why would I be mad about my boyfriend rescuing this little cutie?"
Steve looks like he might cry again, "Because my parents would've been." Eddie holds him closer, being mindful of the little kitten. "Well, you know I know Dick has always been a dick, how about we head to the vet's to get the little one all checked out and then head to the pet store to spoil her with the paycheck I just got."
Steve smiles and that night when he falls asleep once again with a little ball of fluff on his chest and Eddie cuddled beside him his chest feels a little lighter.

Mack! tyyyyyy <3 enjoy ya fluff
6. "Sorry, it's just that I get very nervous when someone else is driving."
Steve hadn't truly thought things through when he agreed to drive Eddie to Indianapolis to pick up his replacement guitar that weekend. If he was honest with himself he'd gotten distracted making goo-goo eyes at Eddie when he had started talking, only really picking up "drive" "me" and "weekend" and Steve wasn't going to pass up an opportunity for more time with the metalhead.
Originally when he'd realised what he had agreed to it didn't seem that bad, he'd taken trips to Indy before, maybe he and Eddie could get lunch at a diner somewhere in the city together, maybe Steve could pretend it was a date. Steve had even looked forward to their adventure into the city as they started their journey. What Steve hadn't counted on was the owner of the music store going on lunch break right before they arrived and not returned for three hours, at least Steve got his little diner lunch.
The problem now was that Steve was exhausted, having planned on being back at Hawkins by nightfall they now weren't leaving the city until the sun had started to set. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue but Steve had pulled two doubles in the last couple of days knowing he couldn't work this weekend. They were barely out of the city when he started to yawn.
"You alright Stevie?"
"Hmm? Oh yeah, Eds I'm fine just a bit tired don't worry."
"Do you want me to drive? I don't mind."
Steve didn't want to say yes but his eyes were heavy and the two hour journey ahead of him seemed like an eternity.
"Ok, but just for a little bit, really I'm not that tired."
"Whatever you say, sweetheart," Eddie said as they pulled over to swap seats.
Steve bit his lip as they began driving again, depite his exhaustion his anxiety was now making him side awake. It didn't take Eddie long to notice.
"Are you ok there, Stevie? You're gripping that door pretty hard."
Steve glanced down to see how white his knuckles hard turned on the edge of the door.
"Sorry, it's just that I get very nervous when someone else is driving."
Eddie smiled softly, "Ever the babysitter, how about you hold my hand, angel, I'll make sure nothing bad happens."
If Steve had been of sane mind maybe he'd have thought about how Eddie only having one hand on the wheel was decidedly less safe, but Eddie's fingers were wrapping themselves around his and Steve could feel how worn and warm they were. With a deep sigh he relaxed back into his chair.
Steve hadn't even noticed he had fallen asleep until they were home, comforted by the steady weight of Eddie's hand, the slight glide of Eddie's thumb along his knuckles, and the soft tunes on the radio.

23. Buying a House
Home had always been a tricky thing for Eddie, good kids had homes, kids with parents that loved them. Eddie didn't have a home, he had a house, sometimes a trailer, for a few months it was just a car, there was that bad weekend it was a curb and that time it was his dad's scary friend's couch, no home though.
When he showed up on his uncle's doorstep, his uncle had told him to "make himself at home", Eddie didn't know how to do that. Eddie kept waiting for him to be sent back, for his uncle to get sick of another mouth to feed, to get sick of sleeping on the pullout and take back his bedroom. A few months later on his tenth birthday, his uncle took him shopping claiming his bedroom needed to feel more Eddie. That night as he fell asleep looking at his new posters and the slightly worn secondhand books the room felt a little more like what he imagined home felt like.
Steve hated the word home. Home was what his parents would call out when they bothered to come home to get clothes under the guise that they were here to see him. His house wasn't a home. Steve wasn't as stupid as Tommy and the other kids thought he was. He knew homes weren't supposed to feel cold no matter the time of day or year. Homes weren't supposed to echo with a single pair of footsteps. Home was for a kid with a family, and Steve didn't have one of those.
Steve got to feel at home in fleeting moments as he got older. He got to pretend he had a home at the Wheeler's with Nancy. He got to pretend his house wasn't always empty when the kids would spend weekends running around its halls and splashing in the pool. He got to feel a little warmer in his bed when his best friend who always felt the closest he ever got to a home slept in his bed to ward off nightmares. He got to feel home settle deep within his heart when Eddie would give him the soft smile reserved just for him across the room.
After months of scrimping and saving, two lost boys got to hold the keys that would unlock their home for them. Home was now the flowers Steve had planted with El on the front porch. Home was the framed drawings of the party Will made that littered the hallway walls. Home was the basketball hoop Steve had set up on the driveway to practice with Lucas. Home was the photo album on the shelf filled with pictures of their family that Jonathan had made them. Home was the collection of books that Nancy had salvaged from Eddie's trailer. Home was the guest room that quickly became Robin's room. Home was the box of parts that Dustin kept next to the TV. Home was the recipe book that Argyle swore by on their kitchen counter. Home was the skateboard that often rested by their front door when Max needed a night to breathe. Home was the double choc chip icecream in their freezer solely reserved for Erica. Home was the quilt on their couch that Joyce had made them. Home was the couch that Mike had cried on when he asked Steve how he knew he liked boys. Home was the barbeque that Hopper would grill at in the summertime as the kids splashed in the blowup pool.
Most importantly home was the other boy in their arms every night. Home was the twin heartbeats and soft breaths that reminded them they were alive. Home was early mornings and late nights and cloudy days and heatwaves. Home was dancing in the living room and falling asleep watching movies.
Home was Eddie and Home was Steve.

Thank you <3
2. "What do you want?"/"I want you to choose me!"
Steve was ready to spend Valentine's Day alone this year, well not completely alone, he and Eddie had decided to drink the capitalist holiday away with booze and dumb movies. Robin was supposed to join in too but fate had other plans when Nancy finally asked her out a couple weeks prior. Steve didn't mind though, he was happy for the girls, and he was happy to spend time with Eddie.
The two boys had grown closer after the almost end of the world. Eddie made Steve laugh, a real laugh deep in his gut and with a smile so wide it crinkled at the edges. He never made Steve feel stupid, often explaining quietly things the kids said that he didn't understand. He had held Steve as he cried when he came out, sandwiched between him and Robin.
So no, he wasn't really alone, he was going to be spending the day with Eddie, pushing down the feelings that he would've wanted to spend the day with Eddie for other reasons.
He was working the opening shift, happy couples coming in to rent cheesy romcoms that they'd ignore for the sake of other activities. His and Eddie's movie selection was tucked safely under the desk. Other years he may have been just like them or spending it doing dumb shit with Robin like he had last year. He looked up at the sound of the door's bell jingling, the usual welcome spiel dying on his lips as he sees Eddie come up to the desk.
"Hey, Stevie, bad news about tonight?"
Steve feels the disappointment start to pool in his stomach, "Don't tell me Gary called in sick, you said you got the night off?"
Eddie's face pinches into an awkward expression, "No, no, still got tonight off, um well, I guess it's more good news, I kinda got a date tonight."
The disappointment plummets into dread, "You did?" He tries to cover the shock, forcing a smile onto his face, "That's, that's great, Eds."
Eddie's nervous face brightens, "It is? Oh good, I was worried you'd be upset."
Steve's face softens, his heart taking a backseat, "Course not Eds, I'm happy for you really."
Cause that's how it had always been hadn't it, others before himself. Anything different felt like his King Steve days again. So, Steve watched Eddie go, to go get ready for his date, to go leave Steve behind. The shift stretched longer after that.
When Steve finally got home the pool of dread had seeped into his veins as a deep feeling of loss. He knew it was selfish, that Eddie wasn't his. Steve dumped the bag of tapes on the table, the cruel humor of fate letting the cheesy romcom he'd slipped in there thinking it would be funny to watch with Eddie fall onto the floor.
"Fuck it," Steve said cracking open his first beer of the night and popping in the tape. Steve was crying by the end, an hour in he'd opened his stupid dad's stupid bourbon, beer bottles clattered around on the ground. The credits were rolling and Steve wished he could have a cheesy happy ending too.
He didn't even realise the phone was in his hand and ringing until he heard the Munson's answering machine. The word vomit tumbled out of him.
"I'm not happy for you Eds. I'm not happy because it should've been you and me together tonight, should've been me you were getting all dressed up for, should've been me getting your flowers and should've been me holding your hand while we got fucking takeout and watch our stupid movies that I watch so you do the stupid fucking impressions just to make me laugh and it should've been me that got to kiss you tonight, it should've been me Eds because I want you to choose me."
"Stevie?" Steve had been to wrapped up in his confession to hear the click the phone had made when it had been picked up halfway through. Steve slams the phone back into the receiver in surprise, panic slowly overwhelming him. He'd ruined everything, now Eddie knew and he'd never want to see him again, he'd go off with his new boyfriend and replace Steve. Steve couldn't keep his mouth shut and kept one of his best friends, he'd had to be selfish, he hadn't changed at all.
Steve didn't know how much time had passed, he had sunk to his knees, jamming him his palms into his eyes and sobbing. Gentle hands wrapped themselves around his wrists pulling them slowly from his face as a soft voice soothed him.
"There you are, sweetheart."
"Eddie?" Tears threatened to spring up again.
"Say. Say it again, Stevie, what do you want?"
Maybe it was a tear-induced dream but the answer came easily, "I want you to choose me."
Chapped lips brushed against his as the two boys sunk into each other, when they pulled away Steve squinted in confusion.
"But your date?"
"Cancelled it, had a feeling."
"Want to watch dumb movies with me instead?"
"It's a date, sweetheart."

B!!!!! 5k omg!!!! <3 <3 can I ask for 2. or 40. with angst vibes?? (and also maybe w/ a happy ending?) LOVE U B!!! <3
Thank you Noelle <3
I'm gonna combine them. 2. "What do you want?"/"I want you to choose me!" and 40. Ghost
Steve had a lot of regrets in his life. He regretted his King Steve days, he regretted not saving Barb, he regretted not standing up to his dad sooner, but most of all he regrets his last conversation with Eddie.
He and Eddie had started dating a few months after Vecna, all it took was life-threatening injuries and a speedrun of a sexuality crisis. They were happier than either of them could ever remember and it wasn't long before they moved in together. Eddie still played at the Hideout every Tuesday but now also worked at the garage downtown. Steve was working multiple retail jobs trying to save up for paramedic classes. Nancy and Robin were away at college now, Robin had originally wanted Steve to come with them but understood his need to stay with the kids. Which was the reason Steve was regretting his life now.
Eddie had come home excited, Steve thought it was just the energy of performing following him home, until Eddie told him that an agency wanted to sign the band, wanted to move them to the city, away from Hawkins, away from Steve.
"I thought you'd be happy for me!"
"I am happy for you but don't you think it's kind of sudden, this random man wants your band?"
"That's how the industry works, Steve!"
"So you're just going to pack up and leave, leave me and the kids behind?"
"The kids are almost graduated, Steve, Vecna is gone, the Upside down is gone, why can't you see that, why can't you let yourself be happy!"
"I am happy! Here! With you! What do you want? What do you want from me!?"
"I want you to choose me!"
Steve goes quiet, "I wanted the same things, Eds, clearly, you've made up your mind though." Steve had retreated to their bedroom after that, he heard the front door slam shortly after. Eddie didn't return home and his van was found wrapped around a tree the next morning.
Everything blurred after that, Steve couldn't focus on the days until one night he awoke to a sound in the kitchen. He grabbed his bat and snuck down the hallway towards a weird glow, fearing the supernatural he swung, but his bat just passed straight through.
"Oi Stevie, what the fuck, are you trying to kill me again?"
Steve looked up in surprise and shock, there was Eddie just how he was the day he left, a faint blue glow around his edges and the vision of the fridge seen through him.
"You're a ghost?"
"That's the first thing you say?"
Steve breaks down after that, sobs wracking his body as the spectre tries to comfort him.
"I'm so sorry, Eds, we should've been celebrating that night and instead I chased you out of our home, and then, and then you died and I never got to say how sorry I was and how proud I am of you and how you were right the kids are grown now and we deserve to go be happy and go somewhere I can hold your hand and you can play your music."
The ghost wipes at Steve's tears to no avail, giving him a bittersweet smile, "Tell me that again when you see me, ok?"
Steve is confused before suddenly he's sitting up in his bed again, he hears a sound from the kitchen, and in an eery sense of deja vu, grabs his bat again and moves down the hallway. He doesn't swing this time, instead dropping his bat with a clatter at the vision before him. There's Eddie, very much alive looking equally upset as Steve feels, he jumps at the sound before Steve slams into him wrapping him tightly in a hug and sobbing into his chest.
"Woah, woah sweetheart, it's ok, it's ok, I'm sorry I left but I needed to clear my head but look I'm back, I'm sorry."
"Y-you were dead, you crashed your van," Steve sobs.
"Crashed my van? Stevie did you have a nightmare? Oh sweetheart, no I'm ok, see?"
The edges of sleep clear from his memory now as he realises it was all a dream.
"We should move to California."
Steve never wants to regret the things he says to Eddie ever again.

My lovely B !! Congrats on 5k!!! For the prompt list: angsty number 29 :3
My lovely Basil <3 Enjoy ya angst.
29. Birthday
Wayne wasn't much of a birthday man. When he was younger they didn't have much money so birthdays were more of a kiss on the cheek from your Ma and a pat on the back from your Pa kind of affair. Once he was older it was just another day, until he got Eddie. Ever since the scrawny kid was dumped on his doorstep Wayne had wanted to make sure Eddie's face never looked as defeated as it had then.
Now birthdays were a wonky cake they made together with the flour they got from Mary down the path and sugar from Sara by the park and butter from Ruth next door. Birthdays were candles from the thrift shop on Main St and a gift wrapped in newspaper that Wayne had been saving for all year. Birthdays were hot cocoa and blankets and watching whatever film Eddie picked from the video store for his special day.
As Eddie grew he began blowing out his candles with the boys from school cheering him on cramped around their little dining table. There were more mugs of cocoa and another gift tied with string that the boys had all pitched in their quarters for. There was the pile of snores on the floor that Wayne would sneak past the next morning on his way to work.
When Eddie was 16 he told Wayne he didn't need a gift this year when the summer storms caused a leak in their roof. When Eddie was 18 his birthday was a road trip across state lines and ink across his arm that kept that big grin of his on his face all month long. When Eddie was 20 he told Wayne that next year his gift would be his diploma, he promised this time he'd do it right.
21 birthdays and Wayne was there for ten of them.
Today was Eddie's 22nd birthday.
Wayne woke up to silence, he doesn't think he'll ever get used to it. There was no cake today, Mary had looked at him with those pitying eyes he'd been getting lately when he told her the flour wasn't necessary this year. Breakfast was black coffee in a single mug, no cocoa would be drunk today. The candles would stay in their spot in the kitchen drawer, too colourful for a day like today. The sunny weather that was typical for this time of year was replaced with rolling grey clouds. The blankets would stay folded on the couch, Wayne ignores the sticky note on the fridge reminding him to go to Family Video. Wayne got dressed alone, picked up the bundle of newspaper, and headed out the door.
The boys were waiting for him there, joined for the first time by new faces. Beside Eddie's friends stood a gaggle of kids who looked too old to be fourteen, the girl from the newspaper who held a taller girl's hand, Mrs. Wheeler, the Sinclairs, Ms. Byers, and a man who looked suspiciously like Jim Hopper, and Claudia Henderson. Most surprising was a young man who Wayne knew to be the Harrington's son.
The funeral was a quick and simple event, there wasn't a body to bury after all. All they had was a headstone that Wayne knelt before, the weight of the day catching up to him. Gareth sat beside him, the young boy placing a tape on the stone.
"We thought it was only fair that Eddie still got his present."
Wayne choked back tears as he pulled a pained smile and unwrapped the newspaper he'd been clutching as a lifeline. A small bundle of pins he'd been collecting from stores he walked by all year, his last connection to an alive Eddie. Before he had a chance to place them on the grave he heard someone clear their throat behind him. Wayne turned to see Harrington standing holding a pile of denim he'd recognise anywhere.
"I'm sure Eddie would've liked if he got to show those off Mr Munson."
Wayne took the vest from the boy, hands shaking as he pinned the pins on in the limited space left on the vest. When he was finished he drapped it over the headstone. A light breeze fluttered the material, it felt like a hello and a goodbye rolled into one.
"Happy Birthday Ed."
