Hey there! Hope you've been doing well :) I wanted to ask if you had any recommendations for drarry fics with horror elements?? tysmm <3
Hi anon! Sure thing - I don’t usually go for hardcore horror but these are fics with horror elements that I’ve really enjoyed:
you look so fine by michi_thekiller (E, 16k)
In which Draco is a Veela and Harry is his mate. Dark!Humor or Crack!Horror, you decide.
And So Death Took by ICMezzo (E, 25k)
Fairy tales may soothe small children into slumber, but some stories themselves refuse to sleep. The Tale of Three Brothers, retold.
Memory Lane by Selden (T, 31k)
When memories from the war start surfacing in unexpected places, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy find themselves spending a surprising amount of time inside each other’s heads.
In Our Blood by secretsalex (E, 38k)
Draco is an accomplished pure-blood curse breaker, and Harry is tasked with accompanying him on his latest job—cleaning up the Van Boer mansion, which has been under a devastating fertility curse for seven generations.
find a new place to be from by oflights (E, 47k)
Something is wrong with Malfoy Manor, and it’s driven Draco into the Muggle world. Thankfully, Harry is now on the case. A story about houses that haunt you and homes built for two.
What Shall Not Be Unearthed by iero0 (E, 49k)
At the northernmost point of Shetland, surrounded by pointed cliffs, towers the Ootsta Lighthouse on a small isle in the middle of the open sea. Little does Harry know that he's not the only new lighthouse keeper. Draco Malfoy is as obnoxious as he always was, with his posh tone of voice and his luxury yacht jumpers. Harry tries his best to avoid the git—who knows what he's up to anyway?
Yours is the Earth (Hold On, Hold On) by chickenlivesinpumpkin (E, 127k)
After a serious accident in the Forbidden Forest, Draco's personality begins to undergo subtle changes. At first, Harry credits this to a new enthusiasm for life. But as the days pass and Draco's behavior becomes more and more mysterious, Harry begins to suspect that something bigger--and darker--is at work.
Forgive Those Who Trespass by Lomonaaeren (E, 135k)
Harry Potter was convinced he had an ordinary, if inconvenient, life. Then Ron and Hermione vanished in the Department of Mysteries. And the only person who may know where they are is a mute Draco Malfoy.

Promptings to reinterpret the Judeocide also hail from cultural and political circles that should not in any way be confused with historical revisionism. Some time ago, a debate developed in France that pitted Armenian intellectuals and Jewish intellectuals against one another. The former attacked Bernard Lewis as a revisionist and negationist. Concerned to reassert the incomparability of the Holocaust, he had rejected any attempt to equate, or even compare, it with the Armenian tragedy. The latter was to be interpreted as a 'simple' deportation which, in conditions of total war, objectively resulted in a large-scale massacre: 'no serious proof exists of a decision and plan by the Ottoman government to destroy the Armenian nation' as such. The angry reaction of descendants of the victims of this tragic episode in modern history is fully understandable, especially since for some time now they have been stressing that it was precisely to the genocide of their ancestors that Hitler referred when planning the war of extermination in the East: who, Hitler asked, now remembers the Armenians? And who, some decades hence, will bother about the drastic reduction in numbers of the natives that the Wehrmacht intends to carry out in the impending German colonial empire? In the history of the twentieth century, then, the Armenian genocide is not only the first chronologically, but the model inspiring the culprits of subsequent genocides. The Jewish Holocaust is not a unique phenomenon, and not even the original genocide. This thesis provoked cries of scandal over the 'ultimate expedient of a more subtle revisionism' and a new riposte from the Armenian side: does drawing attention to 'genocides other than the Jewish one', and rescuing those suffered by the Armenians and Romany from oblivion, 'attest to a more subtle revisionism'? Romany likewise lament the lack of attention paid to the tragedy of their people:
Romany are confined to oral culture and must speak the unspeakable to distracted ears in simple terms. They do not possess organic intellectuals who can express the collective anguish of exterminated families or schol- ars capable of analysing the specific character of Nazi legislation, describing the process of deportation, and quantifying the impact of the extermination.
Identified as responsible for the first twentieth-century genocide, Turks not only reject the charge, but sometimes observe that behind their measures against the Armenians lay the experience of the concentration camps employed by the British against the Boers some years earlier. Significantly, it was precisely then that a term and category destined to play a crucial role in today's debates began to make its appearance: the British pacifist press denounced the 'holocaust of child-life' which occurred during the suppression of the Boer rebels. The latter in fact embodied the worst of the colonial tradition in their policy towards the natives, who met with the fate traditionally reserved for Indians and peoples regarded as dross. From Europe and Africa we thus pass to America. During the inauguration of the mausoleum dedicated to the Holocaust, survivors of the Native American population asked why a similar monument had not been erected in memory of the genocide committed in the Western hemisphere. Like the Romany, Native Americans cannot count on many organic intellectuals. Perhaps they have found an exception in the author of a book, at once committed and rigorous, devoted to the ' American Holocaust'. As early as the end of the sixteenth century, the ' discovery' of the New World had led to 60-80 million deaths, but 'the carnage was not over'. Intellectuals of Jewish origin do not challenge the fact that 'sheerly as a matter of quantity the Indian catastrophe is unparalleled' and, 'both absolutely and proportionally, surpasses the destruction of European Jewry'. In this instance, however, we are not dealing with the planned total destruction of an ethnic group. To which the scholar on the Native American side of the question replies:
A traditional Eurocentric bias that lumps undifferentiated masses of' Africans' into one single category and undifferentiated masses of 'Indians' into another, while making fine distinctions among the populations of Europe, permits the ignoring of cases in which genocide against Africans and American Indians has resulted in the total extermination - purposefully carried out - of entire cultural, social, religious, and ethnic groups.
This thesis is fully confirmed by the picture drawn by a loyalist historian of the American Revolution. Ryerson observed of the policy of 'the destruction of the Six Indian Nations' adopted by the rebel colonists: 'Congress, by an order which, we believe, has no parallel in the annals of any civilized nation, commands the complete destruction of these people as a nation … including women and children.
[...]
The fate of the Native Americans evokes that of the blacks, who were called on to replace or flank them in the forced labour required in the continent conquered by the Europeans. Descendants of the slaves deported from Africa in their turn underscore the centrality of the 'Black Holocaust', if only on account of its secular duration and the number of countries involved, including the most civilized - among them, the leader of the Western world today. A religious curse has long followed blacks. In Genesis (9, 2 1-7), we read that, after the great flood and following a copious libation, Noah slept naked and was discovered thus by his amused, disrespectful youngest son, Ham. When the patriarch awoke and realized what had occurred, he condemned Ham's descendants to be slaves of the descendants of Shem and Japheth (Noah's other sons). Blacks were subsequently identified and branded as descendants of Ham and their slavery was thus theologically sanctioned.
[...]
Over the centuries, anti-Hamitism has raged alongside anti Semitism; and Christians and Jews have participated in it. More than on any other people, the horror of world history has been focused on blacks. Unlike all others subject to persecution, noted Malcolm X, they cannot hide their skin colour and identity. Consequently, we can understand the success of Islam among black American activists, who, to prove the uniqueness of the 'Black Holocaust' , sometimes stress Jewish participation in the slave-trading from Africa. While the thesis of the exemplary character of the Armenian genocide sparks accusations of revisionism, the latter argument prompts the charge of anti-Semitism. But it is meaningless to brand as such an assertion corresponding to historical reality. The tendency to inflate the role of Jews in the black slave trade is certainly dangerous and inadmissible. Yet it would be absurd and unjust to claim that Jews alone were strangers to a historical experience and infamy whose protagonist was colonialism in its entirety, and to which Islam - often referred to by black militants in their polemic against the West (and the Judeo Christian religious tradition) - was certainly no stranger.
[...]
Silence on the 'Black Holocaust' and the 'American Holocaust' is matched by trivialization of the Jewish Holocaust. Although, in justifying two different ideas of global 'mission' or 'task' , the genealogical myths thus constructed can come into contradiction with one another, they fully converge in reinforcing a third genealogical myth. With the repression of the Native American and black tragedies, and the trivialization of the Judeocide - or, at any rate, its severance from the colonial tradition and assignment to Asiatic barbarism (the fact that the fate of the Jews was sealed by their dual stigmatization as Eastern 'natives' and bearers of eastern Bolshevism is ignored) - the West undergoes a dazzling transfiguration that affords no space for balanced historical assessments and relations of equality with the rest of the world. While he characterizes the genocide of the Native Americans as the worst ever perpetrated, the author of American Holocaust suggests regarding each of the great genocides in the history of humanity as 'unique, for one reason or another'.
At work here is a concern to put an end to the quarrels dividing the victims and their descendants. It is clear that historians must continue to examine the peculiarity of each of the great historical tragedies. Yet the horror of the dual naturalistic de-specification of which the Jews were victims in the twentieth century cannot be adequately appreciated if their experience is severed from the colonial tradition, which the Third Reich sought to resume and radicalize.

The Blanched Soldier pt 3
Back to Holmes, who has been carefully concealing practically every thought he had about this case while it was going on to preserve the drama of the situation. There's something about tar. I'm willing to bet that the other character with Godfrey is a doctor of some sort, though I honestly can't remember his name.
“This is very sudden, Colonel Emsworth,” said he. “This will disarrange all our plans.”
So they do have plans beyond 'keep Godfrey hidden for the rest of eternity'. Good to know.
...at the sight of him my client sprang forward with outstretched hand. [...] But the other waved him back.
So it's contagious? That doesn't explain why it's a secret. Is it an STD?
I am growing impatient.
Tumblr media
One could see that he had indeed been a handsome man with clear-cut features sunburned by an African sun, but mottled in patches over this darker surface were curious whitish patches which had bleached his skin.
Vitiligo? Is it vitiligo? But why would he be hiding away because of vitiligo?
“Old Ralph told me you were there, and I couldn't help taking a peep at you."
Tumblr media
That's sweet, and sad, and a little weird.
“You remember that morning fight at Buffelsspruit, outside Pretoria, on the Eastern railway line? You heard I was hit?”
Oh no, my racism alarm is starting to chime. I should have seen this coming when they were talking about the Boer war, but foolishly I thought that would all be background.
"I have a dim memory of slowly ascending the steps, entering a wide-opened door, passing into a large room which contained several beds, and throwing myself down with a gasp of satisfaction upon one of them."
But the first bed was too hard. So he went to the second bed, but that one was too soft. So then he tried the third bed and that one was just right.
So he didn't knock. He just... walked in and went to sleep. I get you'd been shot and you were on death's door, but that is still trespassing.
Tumblr media
"In front of me was standing a small, dwarf-like man with a huge, bulbous head, who was jabbering excitedly in Dutch, waving two horrible hands which looked to me like brown sponges. Behind him stood a group of people who seemed to be intensely amused by the situation, but a chill came over me as I looked at them. Not one of them was a normal human being. Every one was twisted or swollen or disfigured in some strange way."
Oh no... we took a slight right at racism and stepped into racism and ableism. Wonderful.
"The laughter of these strange monstrosities was a dreadful thing to hear."
Fuuuuck you, Godfrey.
I get that waking up surrounded by people who are laughing at you and you can't understand them is unpleasant. But 'monstrosities'? Seriously. And if you don't knock before letting yourself into someone else's house, you can't then be rude about them. That's not how it works.
OK... so this vein continues for some time. I'm not going to put any more of it here... It's pretty much the same level of dumbfuckery.
"'You are in the Leper Hospital, and you have slept in a leper's bed.’"
Ugh, I thought 'leprosy' then I didn't say it because it seemed too far.
Of course it's leprosy. or Hansen's Disease as it's mostly known now in order to try to distance it from the stigma attached to 'leprosy'. Honestly, this is definitely typical for the attitude to the disease at the time. It might even be lighter than usual, because the family are keeping him on the grounds and haven't shipped him off somewhere never to be heard from again.
Tumblr media
The fact that Holmes has brought an expert in makes me think that this has all been a false alarm, though. Why bring an outside opinion if they're just going to confirm 'yup, leprosy'
"It is not illegal, however, to keep a lunatic upon private premises so long as there is a qualified person in attendance and that the authorities have been duly notified. Why, then, all this desperate desire for secrecy?"
Because apparently everyone is horribly afraid of losing their family reputation?
“It is often my lot to bring ill-tidings and seldom good,” said he. “This occasion is the more welcome. It is not leprosy.”
~*Chekhov's Expert*~
Interestingly, the UK Gov website says that Hansen's Disease has an incubation period of 5 months to 20 years... or longer. So just because Godfrey doesn't have it now, doesn't mean he'll never have it. And no one knows how it spreads. Though it seems like it's a lot more difficult to get than people think.
It might be spread by armadillos. It's a mystery!
Tumblr media
There is, however, a cure, these days. Though I don't think there was back when this story was written, considering the cure is antibiotics.
"But the lady has fainted! I think that Mr. Kent had better be with her until she recovers from this joyous shock.”
Let's hope she doesn't contract brain fever because of it. That would be kind of ironic.

#OTD in 1907 – A memorial arch is dedicated at St Stephens Green Dublin in honour of the Irish soldiers who died fighting for “King and country” in the Boer war.
Five years on from the war, the Fusiliers’ Arch was unveiled in the heart of Dublin, as a testament to the actions of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers in South Africa. While the war ended in a British victory, it was a bloody and costly one. In financial terms, a war that would supposedly be over by Christmas 1899 by 1902 had cost the British taxpayer in excess of £200 million, while in excess of…

19 June 2023
The Imperial Metropolis
London 19 June 2023
So I was just settling into bed tonight, thinking about what I needed to do tomorrow, when I had an inkling that I’d forgotten to do something. Something important. Now, I’d had my meds, so it wasn’t that, I’d eaten dinner, showered, all that good stuff, so what could it be?
Oh. Right. Log.
Tumblr media
I woke up very early this morning to get the train from Edgware to Victoria, meeting the group at our hotel just before nine. We proceeded from there to Westminster Cathedral, briefly exploring that building and looking at the Martyr’s Memorial within, before carrying on to the somewhat more famous Westminster Abbey. After a brief interrogation of the statuary on Parliament Square, we went inside.
I highly doubt Westminster Abbey needs an introduction - it’s Britain’s most famous church, and dozens of kings and dignitaries are buried inside. To this day, Britain’s heroes are commemorated in these hallowed walls - Isaac Newton lies next to Stephen Hawking, and there’s Prime Ministers from Pitt to Wilson. It’s absolutely packed, of course, but I’d say it’s well worth a look. The main reason we visited, of course, was the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, the representative of all Britain’s (and previously the Empire’s) war dead. It is interesting, considering the secular nature of most WWI commemoration, just how Christian the tomb is - but I suppose it ought to be, given its place in an abbey. Still, one must remember that he ostensibly represents the Catholic and Jewish soldiers of Britain, not to mention the Hindus and Muslims of the Indian Army.
Tumblr media
After the Abbey, we proceeded up Whitehall, looking at the Cenotaph, the Women’s Cenotaph for the Second World War, and the statue of Field Marshal Haig. We went through Horse Guards (Life Guards on duty today) and observed the memorial to the Foot Guards, and then carried on via the Royal Marines Memorial next to Admiralty Arch (a Boer War Memorial, as I can’t escape my thesis topic) to Trafalgar Square. We broke for lunch here, and I had mine in the crypt beneath St. Martin’s in the Field church. It was a nice little cafe, and only a few sandbags and posters away from looking like something right out of the Blitz. Maybe I shouldn’t give them ideas.
Tumblr media
After lunch, we looked at the Edith Cavell Memorial. Cavell, for the uninitiated, was a British nurse in Belgium shot for supposed espionage on 12 October 1915 - the monument is tall and heroic, a real ‘King and Country’ sort of thing; the words are even emblazoned on it. This makes the addition of a quote from Cavell in the 1920s - “Patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred in my heart for anybody.” - a rather curious juxtaposition. Still, it is well worth a look if one is at Trafalgar Square.
From St. Martin’s, we walked down to the Victoria Embankment Park, where a small memorial to the Imperial Camel Corps is situated. There was a brief discussion of Australian troops on leave in London, and then we carried on back up to the Strand and over to Australia House. Australia House, they say, is ‘our house’ in London; but security arrangements had fallen through, preventing us from going inside. Canada and New Zealand, we were told, are not so paranoid about security, and we would have had no problem going inside.
Tumblr media
On the other side of the road was the St. Clement Danes Church, which served as a centre for Anzac and Armistice Day services for Australians in London during the interwar years. Today it’s the official church of the Royal Air Force. Statues of Air Marshals Dowding and ‘Bomber’ Harris stand sentinel outside, and the floor is marked with the crests of various RAF, RAAF, RCAF, RNZAF and affiliated squadrons. A panel lists the RAF’s VC and GC holders - notably Guy Gibson, commander of the Dams Raid in May 1943. Gibson’s been in the news lately - the conversion of RAF Scampton into a refugee torture chamb- I mean internment centre has placed his office and the grave of his dog under threat. Many people are very emotional about this grave - yet, in an absurdly farcical situation, they absolutely cannot mention it’s name. (The dog was black. The name rhymed with trigger. I’m sure you can put this one together.)
We broke up shortly after, and after a quick visit to Foyles and a brief rest at the hotel, I went with the professor and a few others to Skygarden. This is basically a garden and cafe on top of a skyscraper, and the views are spectacular. Best of all, entry is free. On the way home I fell down the stairs at Monument, and now there’s a big lump on my left arm. These things happen I suppose.
Tumblr media
Tomorrow, we head to Green Park to interrogate the memorials there, before spending the lion’s share of the day at the Imperial War Museum. If it goes anything like today did, it’ll be a blast.

For the ask game: Winn/Opaka; Kate Pulaski/Deanna Troi/Beverly Crusher; Kira Dax/Lenara Kahn, specifically post-Jadzia's death; Worf/Sisko; Geordi LaForge/Miles O'Brien; Nyota Uhura/Christine Chapel; Keiko O'Brien/Garak; Dukat/his own hand while standing in front of a mirror & an itemised list of his achievements starting from age 3.
Thank you for this ask! You guys really delivered, I spent the entire day in bed AND replying to these & I didn’t even see time pass, so thank you to everybody who sent in an ask, I really appreciate it <3
I’ll cut this one for length.
I already addressed Winn/Opaka, so I’ll skip that one if you don’t mind.
Kate Pulaski/Deanna Troi/Beverly Crusher: I ship it
What made you ship it?
Since Kate joins Enterprise as a replacement for Beverly, & since in S2E7 Deanna mentions to Picard that she’s been spending time with Kate & is thus able to comment on her performance as CMO, I choose to believe that Deanna & Kate start a thing around that time & that they stay in touch once Kate leaves the ship, & that over time they absorb Beverly into that relationship. It’s more that Deanna is dating the both of them at first, but I can see Kate & Beverly quickly growing closer: they’ve got similar personalities & similar outlooks & I think they most probably knew each other before Pulaski was posted on the Enterprise. They might even have attended Starfleet Medical together, right? Hmm. Wonder what might have happened there - & if meeting again through Deanna wasn’t more of a second honeymoon thing…
What are your favorite things about the ship?
All three are cool characters with different motivations & I think that they’d be really good for each other - in the sense that what one needs in a relationship, the other two can provide. All in all they’d be a really strong throuple & once they’ve taken over the Enterprise no one will be safe… Picard’s just gonna spend the rest of his life hiding in his ready room because he’ll be too scared of the absolute dream team that is the Pulaski/Troi/Crusher triangle. “Bridge to Picard” - “No… *wet sobbing noises*”
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Kate Pulaski is a good character & she’s not a big meanie who hates Data. Beverly Crusher is a bad doctor (like, terrible. Just imagine going to her for something that’s a little more sensitive than a broken rib from Parrises Squares & you’ll see what I mean).
Kira/Dax/Lenara Kahn: I ship it
What made you ship it?
This one I had never even considered but it’s a wholehearted YES from me. I can see Lenara coming back to the station (maybe after the war?) because she learned of Jadzia’s death & is looking for - maybe not closure but… something? Perhaps even she doesn’t know what she’s looking for. & she finds Kira, still reeling from the war & Jadzia’s death & trying to figure out where she stands now, & Ezri, who’s just thrown herself into the most toxic relationship she could’ve possibly found on the station & who’s definitely on a path to self-destruction; & one night all three of them are sitting in Quark’s with drinks they’ve barely touched & they’re talking about things that don’t matter to any of them, & then somehow they find themselves in Lenara’s guest quarters & they hook up, & it’s a mixture of grief & pent-up sexual energy & frustration about the way the war ended & Ezri’sl life going to shit & Lenara sort of regretting having come here. & of course, Ezri carries the symbiont’s memory of the previous hosts & so does Lenara, & you’ve got the symbionts themselves in there as well… Perfect. Mwah.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
The way that a lot more people & entities than just the three of them would be involved in this relationship. They all meet in the middle but behind each of them they carry many more people.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Ezri is not a replacement for Jadzia & should not be judged as such. Yes, Nicole de Boer replaced Terry Farrell on the show, but a new Trill host is not a replacement for the previous one & it’s unfair to judge Ezri as a character in contrast to Jadzia. Also, Ezri is an interesting character & that’s a hill I’ll die on.
Worf/Sisko: I don’t ship it
Why don't you ship it?
Mainly because of Worf - I don’t think he’d ever, ever consider a relationship with a superior officer & if he ever happened to break that rule he would feel horrible about it. I could see him resigning his commission & exiling himself to a Klingon monastery over something like this. One day he just disappears on a shuttle to Q’onoS & no one knows why (not even Ben!)
What would have made you like it?
I think I’d like it if it specifically included Worf exiling himself to a Klingon monastery over it & both him & Ben having to deal with what that means - & you’d talk about loss & faith & what’s right & what’s wrong, & how people who are very different can still connect, etc. Am I writing the blurb for my next fic here? Maybe! We can never know.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
Whatever happens, it can never be boring. There’s nothing these two men can do that would make a fic about them boring. It’s all Game of Thrones-style political manoeuvres & deep feelings & epic quests, there’s no way to make it uninteresting!
EDIT: I just realised that by the time I finished writing that section I'd changed my mind about this pairing? So I guess I ship it now! Amazing.
Geordi LaForge/Miles O’Brien: I ship it
What made you ship it?
I had never considered it before today but you know what? It makes sense, & I like it. Now what I need to decide is which I like best: if they get together while Miles still serves on the Enterprise or if they reconnect once he’s settled into his new position as Chief Engineer on DS9. I think I’ve got a slight preference for the latter; first, because that means the hyperfixation technobabble conversation potential is off the fucking charts, & second because I think it would remove a layer of hero worship Miles might’ve had for the flagship’s Chief Engineer while he was still serving with him.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
The “we are autistic about warp drives” vibes; Geordi’s bubbly charm vs. Miles’ panicked stiffness; the fact that some might think that there’s a strange mismatch between them but when you look closer they actually make total sense.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Geordi LaForge should be shipped with more people than just Data. I see the appeal of DaForge (& I don’t NOT ship it, I guess) but multishipping is cool actually & Geordi especially is a character you can ship with a lot of other characters. He’s easygoing, friendly, fun & charming, & there’s really many characters he’d be fun to ship with!
Nyota Uhura/Christine Chapel: a classic, but I just realised that I don’t ship it (oops)
Why don't you ship it?
I guess I just don’t see it. There’s really no other reason. Sorry, this one is really boring, haha!
What would have made you like it?
More interactions between them might have swayed me, I suppose? But then I think that they’re very different people & that more interactions might’ve just reinforced my opinions, lol.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
The sex they’d have would be insane. People talk about the noises coming from Kirk’s quarters but what about the hours-long lesbian fucking happening in Uhura’s quarters??
Keiko O’Brien/Garak: I ship it
What made you ship it?
I ship it in one specific setting, which is as follows: they tried it once, because they were both in a weird headspace & it seemed appealing - & then the sex wasn’t really good & they were both sort of weirded out & they never did it again. It happened either in the arboretum where they had been tending to Keiko’s projects & Garak’s flower & gossiping, or it happened after a lunch date in Garak’s changing rooms. They never talk about it & there’s an unspoken rule that they never talk about it to anyone - not because Keiko cheated on Miles (the O’Brien’s have an open marriage) but because they can’t acknowledge it in any way. After a few months Keiko relaxes about it & she tells Miles (he promises not to tell anyone, & he doesn’t) but Garak is taking that secret to his grave (there’s really no reason to but he insists on it).
What are your favorite things about the ship?
The vibes are so off & it’s delicious <3
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I think that when Garak says he’s all alone & doesn’t have any friends he is lying for dramatic effect, & that he’s actually very fond of Keiko as a friend & he knows that she’s very fond of him too. Is that unpopular? I don’t know, but I feel like it could be.
Dukat/his own hand, etc.: this one is canon so I won’t elaborate.

"Myth, of course, also relies on belief. Often suspended. Belief is the bedrock of religious or other faiths. Faiths like Anzac.
For Anzac is nothing if not Australia’s secular religion, one cherished and celebrated as core to our national identity by generations of political leaders, sporting identities and cultural influencers – historians, journalists, film-makers, authors and visual artists.
The finding against Roberts-Smith in his defamation case loss on Thursday lays bare, yet again, the flipside to the Anzac legend and brings into stark relief the perils of tying national celebration – and adulation – to the battlefield.
For well over a century Australian military personnel have been committing serious crimes on foreign battlefields. The 2020 Brereton report into alleged war crimes by Australian special forces in Afghanistan carefully contextualised its findings against contemporary soldiers on foreign operations. It highlighted that from Australia’s colonial adventurism in the Boer war and through the first world war, into battles in Europe and the Pacific in world war two and into Vietnam and beyond, Australian soldiers had been involved in many unlawful killings.
It’s not something you’ll learn about when you look at the dioramas and other displays chronicling Australia’s martial history at our national secular shrine, the Australian War Memorial. You’ll learn about enemy atrocities, to be sure. But the Australian combatant is largely lionised."

The memorial erected to the Fallen Heroes of the Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) on Princess Street in Edinburgh was unveiled by the Earl of Roseberry, K.G., P.C., on 16th November 1906.
The memorial is opposite the junction with Frederick Street and is an equestrian statue in bronze, of a trooper of the Scots Greys in full review order of 1899. The statue is mounted on a pedestal of rock which bears the bronze plaque containing the inscription and Regimental badges. The sculptor was Mr William Birnie Rhind; the models for the statue were *Sergeant-Major Anthony James Hinnigan and his horse called “Polly”.
Anthony James Hinnigan was born in Jedburgh in 1866 and in 1882, at the age of 16, he joined the Royal Scots Greys. For the next 17 years he served with the Greys on home duty but in September 1899, by now with the rank of Sergeant-Major, he went with the Greys to South Africa when they were mobilised for service in the Second Boer War.
On his return from South Africa in 1904 Sergeant-Major Hinnigan and his horse Polly were selected as the models for Rhind’s Memorial.
Sergeant-Major Hinnigan was discharged from the army in 1911 and became landlord at the Railway Inn at Irvine in Ayrshire.
*Please note I had a look around the net when researching this and relatives of many people who served in the regiment also claim that it was their relative in the statue, although most sources give Hinnigan’s name.
I would say with it’s prominent position on Princes Street in front of Edinburgh Castle, it is one of the most photographed statues in Edinburgh, and possibly Scotland. More on the Scots Greys Regiment in just over a week.

Steyne Gardens
Tumblr media
Location
Located in the centre of Worthing, Steyne Gardens offers an open green space great for picnics. At the southern end of the gardens, facing the sea, is a war memorial commemorating the Boer War. The site is used for various events throughout the year, including the Seafront Fayre in summer and the Worthing Ice Rink in winter.
Parking
There are parking spaces along the road around the Gardens. There have always been spaces during my visits on weekdays, but parking may be more difficult during peak times, such as the summer holidays. An alternative place to park is along the Marine Parade.
Pay-and-display parking is £1.20 per hour, and you can park for a maximum of 4 hours.
Parking is free for those with blue badges.
Accessibility
With a length of approximately 175 metres, and plenty of benches, Steyne Gardens are a great place to visit for people who struggle to walk long distances. The paths are suitable for wheelchair and mobility scooter users.
Conclusion
Overall, with its well maintained gardens, Steyne Gardens is an ideal place to stop for lunch or a picnic. Its close proximity to the beach and local shops make it a good place to park to access some of Worthing's main attractions.
