A Poem About My Travels (Yosemite National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A Poem About My Travels I Really Love Seeing This Planet So many wondrous things to behold My goal is to visit the national parks, But a forest or mountain can be just as sublime I've seen prairie grass sway in a passing breeze While bison roam badlands and the Little Mo Bears standing on a waterfall waiting for salmon Stood at the lowest point on this continent And seen the snow capped peaks of Denali A river valley burning of man's destruction Turned to a river flowing free and healed again Glaciers carving out mountains and peaks A lake filled from an exploded mountain Arches, canyonlands, hoodoos and a place called Zion To the first park of this nation and Tetons nearby Felt the woods of sequoias and others petrified over time So many more tales and exploration done But I can't also become that cruel thing Who over loves it as that will be sure To kill as much as love So today I will write a story, A poem if you will, and only speak words. Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon in Yosemite National Park from Tunnel View overlook. The setting is looking to the east-northeast across the forested landscape present in Yosemite Valley looking to El Capitan, Half Dome, and other peaks and ridges of the Central Yosemite Sierras. My thinking in composing this image was to capture a look across that view with the sunlight cutting across the valley while the peaks and ridges remained in shadows in the afternoon hours and mostly clouds skies. I did some initial post-processing work, making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 5. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 4 where I added a Polarization, Foliage and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.

Bridalveil Falls
I must admit, I was so disgusted by the sheer number of people and cars at Yosemite, I will never, ever return. The scenery was magnificent but the city like feel was off putting. This is Bridalveil falls, one of the iconic elements in the National Park.

Yosemite National Park, USA
Tumblr media
There are thousands of waterfalls in Yosemite National Park in the United States, but perhaps none are as well known as Bridalveil Fall. Bridalveil, as seen in today's photo, is often the first waterfall visitors to Yosemite encounter. It plunges 188 metres and flows year-round, fed with water from Ostrander Lake approximately 16 kilometres away. When the flow is light, brisk winds blow the water sideways. That’s why the Ahwahneechee Native Americans, who have lived in the Yosemite Valley for centuries, traditionally called the waterfall Pohono, or Spirit of the Puffing Wind.
When Yosemite was made a national park in 1890, it was pivotal to the continued idea of protecting natural areas for the future. Scottish-American environmentalist John Muir is credited with convincing President Benjamin Harrison to preserve the Yosemite Valley, and that success inspired a series of conservation efforts that would eventually lead to the creation of the National Park System. Today, Yosemite’s pristine wilderness is internationally known for mountains, granite cliffs, giant sequoia groves and, of course, waterfalls.

One Day in Yosemite National Park Just Isn’t Enough! (HDR) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views across the forested Yosemite Valley at Tunnel View in Yosemite National Park. I chose to work with Aurora HDR Pro to bring that complete setting in the image. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 5 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.
