Aziraphale’s Choice, the Job Connection, and Michael Sheen’s Morality
Update: Michael Sheen liked this post on Twitter, so I'm fairly certain there is a lot of validity to it.
I’ve had time to process Aziraphale’s choice at the end of Season 2. And I think only blaming the religious trauma misses something important in Aziraphale’s character. I think what happened was also Aziraphale’s own conscious choice––as a growth from his trauma, in fact. Hear me out.
Since November 2022 I’ve been haunted by something Michael Sheen said at the MCM London Comic Con. At the Q&A, someone asked him about which fantasy creature he enjoyed playing most and Michael (bless him, truly) veered on a tangent about angels and goodness and how, specifically,
Tumblr media
We as a society tend to sort of undervalue goodness. It’s sort of seen as sort of somehow weak and a bit nimby and “oh it’s nice.” And I think to be good takes enormous reserves of courage and stamina. I mean, you have to look the dark in the face to be truly good and to be truly of the light…. The idea that goodness is somehow lesser and less interesting and not as kind of muscular and as passionate and as fierce as evil somehow and darkness, I think is nonsense. The idea of being able to portray an angel, a being of love. I love seeing the things people have put online about angels being ferocious creatures, and I love that. I think that’s a really good representation of what goodness can be, what it should be, I suppose.
I was looking forward to BAMF!Aziraphale all season long, and I think that’s what we got in the end. Remember Neil said that the Job minisode was important for Aziraphale’s story. Remember how Aziraphale sat on that rock and reconciled to himself that he MUST go to Hell, because he lied and thwarted the will of God. He believed that––truly, honestly, with the faith of a child, but the bravery of a soldier.
Tumblr media
Aziraphale, a being of love with more goodness than all of Heaven combined, believed he needed to walk through the Gates of Hell because it was the Right Thing to do. (Like Job, he didn’t understand his sin but believed he needed to sacrifice his happiness to do the Right Thing.)
That’s why we saw Aziraphale as a soldier this season: the bookshop battle, the halo. But yes, the ending as well.
Because Aziraphale never wanted to go to Heaven, and he never wanted to go there without Crowley.
But it was Crowley who taught him that he could, even SHOULD, act when his moral heart told him something was wrong. While Crowley was willing to run away and let the world burn, it was Aziraphale (in that bandstand at the end of the world) who stood his ground and said No. We can make a difference. We can save everyone.
Tumblr media
And Aziraphale knew he could not give up the ace up his sleeve (his position as an angel) to talk to God and make them see the truth in his heart.
I was messed up by Ineffable Bureaucracy (Boxfly) getting their happy ending when our Ineffable Husbands didn’t, but I see now that them running away served to prove something to Aziraphale. (And I am fully convinced that Gabriel and Beelzebub saw the example of the Ineffables at the Not-pocalypse and took inspiration from them for choosing to ditch their respective sides)
But my point is that Aziraphale saw them, and in some ways, they looked like him and Crowley. And he saw how Gabriel, the biggest bully in Heaven, was also like him in a way (a being capable of love) and also just a child when he wasn’t influenced by the poison of Heaven. Muriel, too, wasn’t a bad person. The Metatron also seemed to have grown more flexible with his morality (from Aziraphale's perspective). Like Earth, Heaven was shades of (light?) gray.
Aziraphale is too good an angel not to believe in hope. Or forgiveness (something he’s very good at it).
Aziraphale has been scarred by Heaven all his life. But with the cracks in Heaven’s armor (cracks he and Crowley helped create), Aziraphale is seeing something else. A chance to change them. They did terrible things to him, but he is better than them, and because of Crowley, he feels ready to face them.
(Will it work? Can Heaven change, institutionally? Probably not, but I can't blame Aziraphale for trying.)
At the cafe, the Metatron said something big was coming in the Great Plan. Aziraphale knows how trapped he had felt when he didn’t have God’s ear the first time something huge happened in the Big Plan. He can’t take a chance again to risk the world by not having a foot in the door of Heaven. That’s why we saw individual human deaths (or the threat of death) so much more this season: Elspeth, Wee Morag, Job’s children, the 1940s magician. Aziraphale almost killed a child when he couldn’t get through to God, and he’s not going through that again.
“We could make a difference.” We could save everyone.
Tumblr media
Remember what Michael Sheen said about courage and doing good––and having to “look the dark in the face to be truly good.” That’s what happened when Aziraphale was willing to go to Hell for his actions. That’s what happened when he decided he had to go to Heaven, where he had been abused and belittled and made to feel small. He decided to willingly go into the Lion’s Den, to face his abusers and his anxiety, to make them better so that they would not try to destroy the world again.
Him, just one angel. He needed Crowley to be there with him, to help him be brave, to ask the questions that Heaven needed to hear, to tell them God was wrong. Crowley is the inspiration that drives Aziraphale’s change, Crowley is the engine that fuels Aziraphale’s courage.
But then Crowley tells him that going to Heaven is stupid. That they don’t need Heaven. And he’s right. Aziraphale knows he’s right.
Aziraphale doesn’t need Heaven; Heaven needs him. They just don’t know how much they need him, or how much humanity needs him there, too. (If everyone who ran for office was corrupt, how can the system change?)
Terry Pratchett (in the Discworld book, Small Gods) is scathing of God, organized religion, and the corrupt people religion empowers, but he is sympathetic to the individual who has real, pure faith and a good heart. In fact, the everyman protagonist of Small Gods is a better person than the god he serves, and in the end, he ends up changing the church to be better, more open-minded, and more humanist than god could ever do alone.
Aziraphale is willing to go to the darkest places to do the Right Thing, and Heaven is no exception. When Crowley says that Heaven is toxic, that’s exactly why Aziraphale knows he needs to go there. “You’re exactly is different from my exactly.”
____
In the aftermath of Trump's election in the US, Brexit happened in 2018. Michael Sheen felt compelled to figure out what was going on in his country after this shock. But he was living in Los Angeles with Sarah Silverman at the time, and she also wanted to become more politically active in the US.
Sheen: “I felt a responsibility to do something, but it [meant] coming back [to Britain] – which was difficult for us, because we were very important to each other. But we both acknowledge that each of us had to do what we needed to do.” In the end, they split up and Michael moved back to the UK.
Sometimes doing the Right Thing means sacrificing your own happiness. Sometimes it means going to Hell. Sometimes it means going to Heaven. Sometimes it means losing a relationship.
And that’s why what happened in the end was so difficult for Aziraphale. Because he loves Crowley desperately. He wants to be together. He wanted that kiss for thousands of years. He knows that taking command of Heaven means they would never again have to bow to the demands of a God they couldn’t understand, or run from a Hell who still came after them. They could change the rules of the game.
And he’s still going to do that. But it hurts him that he has to do that alone.

Oh Eww
Just watching so many Team Cap/Anti Sokovian Accords people celebrate the latest She-Hulk episode is giving me the ick.
I can and will always mantain that the Sokovian Accords were a good idea because the majority American Avengers should definitely have had and still need an overseeing body of (ideally multiple nations) that they would need to answer to before they were allowed to invade other countries on what were essentially military operations.
That was how the Accords will presented originally at the start of the movie. How it was handled and presented by the end of the movie did not represent the original intent at all and felt deliberate in order to frame Steve and the American Military as always righteous and correct. Espeically with placing Ross as the main speaker for the Accords once T’chaka was killed. You were never supposed to agree with Ross or how he handled things so saying that the movie presented it was a fair 50/50 for and against is a flat out lie.
This isn’t even about Steve vs Tony or any of that. Steve was approaching the majority of the conflict purely on a ‘Save Bucky, the rules don’t apply to me’ stance while Tony was going on a ‘I’ve taken on the responsibility of all the lives via Ultron and need to over correct’ direction.

Temeraire by Naomi Novik (2006-2016)
DESCRIPTION
Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors ride mighty fighting dragons, bred for size or speed. When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes the precious cargo, an unhatched dragon egg, fate sweeps Captain Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future – and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature. Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France’s own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte’s boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into their own baptism of fire.
Capt. Will Laurence is serving with honor in the British Navy when his ship captures a French frigate harboring most a unusual cargo–an incalculably valuable dragon egg. When the egg hatches, Laurence unexpectedly becomes the master of the young dragon Temeraire and finds himself on an extraordinary journey that will shatter his orderly, respectable life and alter the course of his nation’s history.
Thrust into England’s Aerial Corps, Laurence and Temeraire undergo rigorous training while staving off French forces intent on breaching British soil. But the pair has more than France to contend with when China learns that an imperial dragon intended for Napoleon–Temeraire himself– has fallen into British hands. The emperor summons the new pilot and his dragon to the Far East, a long voyage fraught with peril and intrigue. From England’s shores to China’s palaces, from the Silk Road’s outer limits to the embattled borders of Prussia and Poland, Laurence and Temeraire must defend their partnership and their country from powerful adversaries around the globe. But can they succeed against the massed forces of Bonaparte’s implacable army?
Wayside School by Louis Sachar (1978-2020)
There was a terrible mistake. Wayside School was supposed to have been built with thirty classrooms all next to each other in a row. Instead, it was built with the thirty classrooms all on top of each other - thirty stories high! That may be why all kinds of strange stuff happens at Wayside School. Especially, on the thirteenth floor. It is a school full of unusual characters too. Mrs Gorf the meanest teacher in the world. Terrible Todd who always gets sent home early. John who can only read upside down.
Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black (2002-2007)
Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she drifts from place to place with her mother's rock band until an ominous attack forces them back to Kaye's childhood home. But Kaye's life takes another turn when she stumbles upon an injured faerie knight in the woods. Kaye has always been able to see faeries where others could not, and she chooses to save the strange young man instead of leaving him to die.
But this fateful choice will have more dire consequences than she could ever predict, as Kaye soon finds herself the unwilling pawn in an ancient and violent power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms--a struggle that could very well mean her death.
The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist (1982-1986)
My name is Pug. I was once an orphaned kitchen boy, with no family and no prospects, but I am destined to become a master magician...
War is coming to the Kingdom of the Isles from another world, bringing with it chaos and destruction. Pug yearns to train as a warrior and fight for his kingdom alongside his foster-brother, Tomas, but instead he is forced to follow a different path: a path that will lead him right into the heart of the enemy. And one that will change the course of the war - and two worlds - forever.
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld (2009-2011)
It is the cusp of World War I, and all the European powers are arming up. The Austro-Hungarians and Germans have their Clankers, steam-driven iron machines loaded with guns and ammunition. The British Darwinists employ fabricated animals as their weaponry. Their Leviathan is a whale airship, and the most masterful beast in the British fleet.
Aleksandar Ferdinand, prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is on the run. His own people have turned on him. His title is worthless. All he has is a battle-torn Stormwalker and a loyal crew of men.
Deryn Sharp is a commoner, a girl disguised as a boy in the British Air Service. She's a brilliant airman. But her secret is in constant danger of being discovered.
With the Great War brewing, Alek's and Deryn's paths cross in the most unexpected way...taking them both aboard the Leviathan on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure. One that will change both their lives forever.
The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede (1985-1993)
Cimorene is everything a princess is not supposed to be: headstrong, tomboyish, smart - and bored. So bored that she runs away to live with a dragon - and finds the family and excitement she's been looking for.
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (2020-present)
Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can’t get rid of him.
In an attempt to prove himself a true brujo and gain his family’s acceptance, Yadriel decides to summon his cousin’s ghost and help him cross to the afterlife.
But things get complicated when he accidentally summons the ghost of his high school’s resident bad boy, Julian Diaz – and Julian won't go into death quietly.
The two boys must work together if Yadriel is to move forward with his plan.
But the more time Yadriel and Julian spend together, the harder it is to let each other go.
The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi (2003-2004)
After finding a mysterious, handmade field guide in the attic of the ramshackle old mansion they've just moved into, Jared; his twin brother, Simon; and their older sister, Mallory, discover that there's a magical and maybe dangerous world existing parallel to our own--the world of faerie.
The Grace children want to share their story, but the faeries will do everything possible to stop them...
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman (2012-2015)
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.
Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs, the captain of the Queen's Guard. While they begin to uncover a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect the secret behind her musical gift--a secret so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.
The Queen's Thief by Megan Whalen Turner (1996-2022)
Gen can steal anything—at least that's the boast he's made in wineshops across the capital city, and this bragging has landed him in the king's prison. His chances of escape look slim—even for someone of his talents. When he is invited to join a quest to steal an object straight out of a legend, he's hardly in a position to refuse.

Coriolanus Snow x fem!Reader
Lieutenant Coriolanus Snow (callsign: Snake) is one of the top pilots at District 12’s Naval Air Station. Son of the infamous Capt. Crassus “Rosebud” Snow and a highly decorated pilot in both training and combat missions, he will do whatever it takes to earn his place at the Capitol’s elite Fighter Weapons School and follow in his father’s footsteps. Only the nation’s best and brightest naval aviators are invited to attend, and Lt. Snow is going to be one of them.
When Lt. Snow’s WSO, Lt. Sejanus “Baby” Plinth, is injured in a training exercise, you are called in to replace him as Snow’s backseater. Your job is to operate the weapons systems of the aircraft and control the radars used for communications in the air. The only problem is that you can’t stand the cocky pilot. He’s impulsive, he has a bad habit of leaving his wingman, he doesn’t play by the rules. You’re careful, calculated. The safety of your crew and the safety of your aircraft always come first. For the sake of your duty to Panem, you two will just have to find a way to work together and get along.

//Steve/Bucky wedding overview but I didn't want to have to write a lot so it's a list of poorly-thought-out plot points.//
T'Challa officiated
Shuri made my arm have a ring built in
Alpine was the ring bearer (I told Steve no to the actual bear)
My granddaughter was adorable, but I had to fight @marvelqueents to convince them not to put their kid in an actual American flag
It took place on the Fourth of July (Steve's birthday) at the Grand Canyon //in the comics Bucky had always wanted to go there//
Sam was Steve's best man and Natasha was mine
Most of the music was from the thirties and forties
I did not cry and on an unrelated note Sam is a fucking liar
@theironcan paid for everything (thank you, Tony)
My first dances after Steve were with @little-lady-cecily and @moongirlwidow who brought both her partners
My goats from my time in Wakanda were there because they are my babies
I won a bet with Steve so he had to wear the white suit

Infinight Interns Reference Sheet + Headcanons
Tumblr media
Bartholomew Finn
Tumblr media
-Vest of Slow Descent-i made it green based off his canon design and then gave it "feathered" hems to allude to its ability
-pre-Draconic Transformation Bart-gave him silver jewelry and the only draconic traits are gold freckles, fangs, and shorter horns
-post-Draconic Transformation Bart-gold jewelry to match with his dad (Simsun), and of course claws and scales and larger horns
-boatswain's call whistle-a reference to the Jebediah + Capt. Marge
-gave him the thigh dagger sheath-cause why not. I think Bart's that character in movies that has a shit ton of knives hidden in the most improbable places
-he's got a 17 string lute, but lets be honest i aint drawing 17 strings. painted a wave design on the body and the soundhole/rosette has a dagger design
-Breath Diagem/lute pick ftw
-scars on his hands (from doing hot boi sailor shit)
-not shown but i think he's got a bunch of tattoos (like "I <3 Mom" for Marge, flowers for Gum Gum, crossed anchors, etc.)
-pupils are slitted like dragons and a very dark shade of blue
Kyborg the Mighty/Kydelius of Everwinter
Tumblr media
-Fun Fact: i used to do archery! so some of his gear is based off of stuff I had. But you know cooler
-Canonically his hair pretty loose, and its pretty but my god its gonna get caught up in his bowstring man. braided/tied it back for practicality
-thigh highs. no notes
-gave him an armored version w/ fur because his current design didn't feel like Everwinter-y enough
-its not terribly visible but he has the Belt of Sick Trick so i put a bird on it (vaguely Tony Hawk reference)
-the Longer Bow Krystallina-gave it a snow fall design + red accents
-scars from archery, since this guy shoots barebow
-the left (flesh arm) side is the most armored and unscarred, and the right (metal arm) side is scarred + unprotected (bc u know its metal)
-pupils are really dark shade of red as a reference to the Source Diagem
-metal arm-i took an anatomy class not a robotics one, so the structure is based off human musculature (kinda) and i put the Source Diagem in his shoulder instead of his hand
Gum Gum Galindor
Tumblr media
-star boi 🌟
-constellations on the inside of the brim of his hat that Bart sewed for him-(Bart's a sailor, he knows his constellations)
-the flowers (orange @ blue) on his hat represent him & Bart. The orange ones bigger bc u know thats his big bro right there
-the hoodie+pauldron+cross body strap combo is a direct copy of Bart's design bc thats what younger siblings do u know
-made the patches to repair his coat stars bc why not
-Random Axe of Kindness-the cute lil heart does not detract from the fact that its an axe
-timeskip design i went for a gardener vibe bc he works in the Orchidnage now-i think despite having the worst dad of the group, Gum Gum would be a pretty good father figure
-Staff of Flowers-i wanted to reference Dia w/ this one so I tried to have this be the most colorful part
-Bart pierced his ears at one point
-i gave him constellation freckles that showed up post Dia reveal
-he has his manacles yeah but i wanted to design friendship bracelets for the rest of the team
-Mudd's-green thread with pink & white flower beads-the charm is Gumbo
-Bart's-leather cord with blue & gold beads and an anchor charm
-Kyborg's-brown leather cord, green beads, and a red arrow charm
-made his pupils a lighter shade of blue that glows when he uses Wild Magic
-edit: lots of scars, some from fighting, a lit from just tripping and shit. Also a dog bite from that one time
Mudd Bramblecrack
Tumblr media
-i love him but it was so hard to come up with a design
-the pink streak keeps moving bc im inconsistent and also bc he has to redye/cut his hair constantly
-the "fur" cloak is the Cloak of the Secluded Garden, and its actually pine leaves & grass
-gave him a very simple tunic w/ a bramble design bc we would try to disguise his noble bg
-i put Mudd in a kilt bc i have free will and also he's Scottish. I dont think he would ever wear one unless for formal occasions tho bc i think they take a while to put on
-Gumbo :) + badger armor -this ones very specifically inspired by Lonna Bowstripe from the Redwall series
-originally had the purple gems on his tunic, made em earrings instead bc thats cooler
-Bramblecrack signet (?) ring-also the Virtues Diagem. Both this and his earring are purple bc its an ace reference (for me). The ring is definitely an ace reference bc i made it a black metal and put it on his right middle finger (ifykyk)
-pink paw pads + talons-less of a firbolg thing, more of a Moon Druid thing
-eyes are a rlly dark shade of green but glow a brighter shade when Wildshaping
-pupils are a rlly dark shade of purple (Diagem ref) and also horizontal like cows
Okay I think that's everything. If not ill just come back and edit it 🤷. working on the OG Infinights next so stay tuned or whatever

FIC REC WEEK 29 - SOULMATES
Follow in Your Footsteps by Sineala
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 6,788 Tags: Secret Identity, Homophobia, Howard Stark's A+ Parenting
Summary: When Tony is twelve, his soulmate's name appears on his wrist. Unfortunately, it's hard to find out anything at all about Steve Rogers. It turns out there's a reason for that.
Reasons why I love it: Oh my god, Tony's dedication to finding Steve and the subsequent heartache as he learns about Steve's identity is as heart-breaking as it is fascinating. The way Tony falls in love with Steve is so tragic and yet so sweet, and I love how Fury plays into the plot here. Plus, the moment they finally meet is absolutely perfect. This fic is amazing, and I really hope you give it a shot, if you haven't already!
Stand Back, I'm Going To Try Science by Good_News_Everyone
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 2,123 Tags: Hearing Voices, Science, Fluff and Humor
Summary: Soulmates are a rare and cherished thing, a simple touch of hands bringing love that lasts forever. By all the rules of romance, they're meant to wait for each other and to trust in the vagaries of fate to bring them together. Tony's never been good at waiting, and when he has science on his side, who needs fate?
Reasons why I love it: This is the most Tony Stark approach to soulmates ever. It feels almost canon adjacent, it fits his character so perfectly. And Fury having an aneurysm over Steve and Tony's first meeting is the cherry on top of a delicious sundae. I love it, and I bet you will too, so I hope you'll give it a shot!
The Heavens Tumble, Darling, and I'm— by ChibiSquirt
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: E Words: 8,377 Tags: Soulmate-Identifying Marks, Pining, Bottom Steve
Summary: For most of Steve’s life, he’d been certain he was going to meet his soulmate by pissing him off. (Almost certainly a him, although the occasion of the WACs did cause Steve’s heart to stutter for more reasons than just the look of a girl in uniform.) He was sure that the conversation would go something like— “Something something (probably something sassy), Mr. Soulmate.” “Captain,” Capt. Soulmate would correct him. Because that was all it said: Just “CAPTAIN”, all caps, no punctuation, in dark block letters that looked simultaneously angry and precise. So he could probably be forgiven for assuming that it was a correction for a misapplied form of address; after all, it couldn’t be someone addressing him as Captain, could it? Aha. Ahahahaha. Life was very funny.
Reasons why I love it: I love they go from a terrible first impression to bantering like friends to blatantly flirting in three seconds flat. And I really, really enjoyed how confident Steve is in his sexuality in this fic. Don't get me wrong, I love me a virginal, blushing Steve, but confidence is a great look on him too. Plus, the soulmate reveal is perfect. This fic is wonderful, and if you haven't read it yet, you absolutely should!

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: M Words: 5,364 Tags: Underage, Soul Bond, Angst
Summary: In a world where a touch reveals your soulmate, Steve Rogers, never frozen, thought he'd never find his perfect match. Until the day he's fifty years old and held newborn Tony Stark in his arms. Then he realized the man he'd been destined to love his whole life had just arrived. But how in the world could they ever be together, with a half-century of years between them?
Reasons why I love it: This is such a fascinating concept – their age gap and how they deal with it makes for some excellent angst, and I love how Jaune_Chat handles this really difficult subject. Howard and Maria are wonderful characters in this too. It's certainly an interesting read, and I highly encourage you to give it a shot!
First of All by Shi_Toyu
Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 12,970 Tags: Misunderstandings, Brainwashing, Hurt Tony
Summary: The first words Tony's soulmate will ever say to him are, "I killed your parents." Four little words. Amazing how they can change a life so much.
Reasons why I love it: Ouch! The premise alone was like a shot to the heart the first time I saw it, and the angst in the fic more than lives up to that. But it also leads to some fascinating canon divergence causing Bucky and Tony to meet early and get to know each other in a very intriguing way. I love it a lot, and I bet you will too, so I hope you give it a shot!

MASTERLIST in bio, darlings. Tags are open (check bio)
The camera in the kitchenette did not move. The camera behind the sofa was frozen in its place as well.  The former had Scott in its frame. The Ant-Man had the ice cream spoon in his mouth, his teeth gripping it hard for some emotional support. You and Loki looked at each other, fixed in time ever since you told him you 'like' liked him. Too much. The camera left Scott out of the frame and zoomed in on Loki as his brows shot up in the softest arch. His lungs took in a stretched inhale, while his ears seemed to turn a bit red. Your eyes looked eagerly for an answer, your head tilting a little forward. Loki covered his mouth with his hand, leaning a little forward. Your brows furrowed, slightly worried for him.  First, it was a snicker, making the camera pan in on Loki's figure while you halted your step. Then a giggle broke out from the God, slowly turning into a burst of wicked laughter.
Your entirety was paused in the waves of laughter coming out of Loki as your eyes tried to follow his head throwing itself back in some elation you did not catch up to. "What in the Nine Realms-" Loki's words came riding the roaring wave, and his face turned into a hue of blue- seemingly from the lack of oxygen reaching his lungs. You looked past him towards Javier's camera, which could see a hint of moisture building up in your eyes while your body tried to figure out the situation. Even Scott raised his head in concern to watch you both. Loki's laughter took one good moment to simmer down a bit. "I have never laughed so much in my life," Loki guffawed, wiping the tears off his cheeks, which were still strolling down from his eyes. He seemed to have caught that lost look on your face. "Oh...oh. Y/N, was this, not a joke? Were you expecting some sort of reciprocatory emotion from my end?" The spoon- wooden spoon- in Scott's hand broke into two. The God's laughter got diluted a bit. His face was still veiny blue. His eyes caught your fazed features again. "You are-" Loki pointed at you with both hands and shrugged- "you. A puny human. And I'm Loki! I'm an almost immortal. By the Norns! I would be at the ends of my wit to think about courting a human! Unless it’s for-“ he brought his hand to the side of his mouth, gesturing a dirty confession- “funsies, for the lack of a better word that Scott taught me.” Scott rolled his eyes and took in an offensive but muted gasp behind the furniture. You took in a breath to bring out some words. But the two times you tried to speak, it felt like your eyes might break the dam any minute. Clearing your throat, you unclenched your fists and questioned him, “So…back in college…um….and in space when that witch….and the pottery class when you…” Words were not able to come out any more. “Oh!” Loki threw his head slightly back in realisation and smiled, “That was just me being cordial, Y/N. Of all the people in this building, you are the most tolerable, darling!” Javier’s camera zoomed in on your face. Something was stuck in your throat before a scoff eventually escaped you. Your shaking fingers vigorously rubbed your forehead and a big toothy smile was stuck on your face. “Damn! I didn’t realise that.” “Don’t beat yourself up,” Loki waved away the air with his hand, “I have that effect on people.” Throwing finger guns at you he turned towards the elevator. “See you at dinner.” The elevator closed with a ding and silence returned to the lounge. Javier’s camera was stuck on your lost figure. The camera behind the sofa took Scott’s figure getting up but not speaking anything for a stretched moment. “Y/N?” He asked ever so softly. "Honey, are you okay?" You turned to find Scott holding the ice cream bucket in his hand, standing behind the sofa. You smiled. The camera could see that intentional stretching of your cheeks to close your eyes with that smile. Anyone could see. "Mm-hmm," you hummed, nodded and walked towards your room without another word. Once again, silence eroded the room
The Elevator The security camera recorded Loki getting in from the Lounge. There was no audio accompanying the visual of the God, his head falling as soon as the doors closed. The recording showed him leaning against the door with one hand while almost stopping the other from punching a hole through it- instead letting his fist rest on the reflective steel surface as veins visibly popped on the screen in the security room.
JOTUNHEIM- A FEW DAYS EARLIER The camera was lying on the ground at a bizarre angle, focusing on a pair of familiar silver bracelets that hit the ground in pieces. Someone picked the camera up from the ground, bringing into focus Javier's haunted face before turning towards the King's hall.  The hall was a bloodbath. Bodies lay on the floor of Jotuns who planned a coup against their King. Some heads were even severed to the point of no return. The sound of repeated punches being thrown somewhere in the hall seemed to be the only sign of life besides Javier. The camera turned towards the sound and carefully moved towards the familiar figure; Loki, standing over Helblindi, landing one last punch to his already disfigured face before bringing it closer to his. The camera panned in on Loki's Jotun form; bloodied face emanating a rage-filled gleam through those red eyes at the Jotun he held in a death grip. "Where. Is. She?" Loki hissed through his teeth. Helblindi winced in the God's grip before a broken-toothed smile erupted on his face. "She is dead, Your Highness," he cackled through the blood in his throat. Loki's rage suddenly went silent. Whispering a three-syllable spell, he let go of Helblindi's throat, picked the nearest sword and walked towards one of the side walls of the hall. "Come on," he muttered to Javier behind the camera. A strain of winces erupted from the Jotun before turning into pain-ridden screams. The camera was already pulling away from Helblindi's body, turning to follow the God's figure as a compartment in the wall opened up for him.
The screams diluted when the camera went through a small corridor on entering that wall compartment. The concrete corridor was lit by small fire torches every few minutes leading through a labyrinth of such paths before one such passage was being slowly filled with snow that came along with the freezing wind blowing from somewhere outside. The passage ultimately led to an opening; that opening leading to the mouth of a cave about three times the size of the Avenger's facility. The first thing that the camera noticed as it came to stand next to Loki was the two huge skeletons lying in a prison-like cage on their left. From the lack of any other remnants on them, they seemed to have been the guest of that prison cell for a really long time. A resonating growl caught the attention of both Loki and the camera. The God ran towards the edge of the cave, which was the end of the cliff wherein this prison was made. The camera panned in to focus on a furry creature with four legs that looked like a sabre-tooth tiger except it was twice the build and had no eyes. The menacing creature ripped apart one of the Jotuns, Kruge, with a guttering growl and threw it down the cliff into the never-ending dark valley below. Panting with a shade of anger, the creature sniffed and looked around for any other threat before turning in Loki's direction and howling at him. The creature then ran into a prison cell, whose bars had seemingly been bent and broken apart, before curling up in a corner. Loki entered the cell. The camera followed. The creature howled again, crying, his body resting defensively on something beneath him. "Lulu," Loki declared, and the creature purred before shifting into the Lulu everyone originally knew. The camera panned in to take in the figure initially hiding under Lulu's monstrous form. It was you, lying unconscious with little chunks of snow frozen on your fingertips, your brows and your hair. Your lips and limbs were turning blue. Your face had bruises over them. Your lip had a cut with your blood frozen in it. "Y/N," Loki dropped his weapons, his hands letting loose and his feet voluntarily covering the distance between him and you in one stride. Before Javier could position the camera, Loki was already on his knees, picking your limp and cold body in his arms. The camera was picking on a hue of an emotion not seen on Loki's features ever before. Fear. His long blue fingers caressed your cheek. "Y/N?" he asked gently, "Hey, Y/N?" His fingers went down your face to your neck, pressing on it gently, looking for a pulse. The colour of fear seemed to grow on his face. The little cameras resting over the prison bars took in the look of concern on Javi's face as he set his camera down on the snow-covered floor. The boy was holding onto Lulu for his dear life, not wanting to hear what his eyes feared. Loki bent down his head to let his ear on your chest, waiting to hear a heartbeat. The usually composed God was slowly taking in shallow breaths, repeating the action of feeling a pulse on your neck, your wrist or your chest. "Y/N?!" his voice broke between the hasty breaths despite his trying to keep as much gravity in his throat as possible. The fear-ridden shallow breaths ultimately were turning into full-blown panic, and those usually intimidating red eyes were now filled with tears. "Y/N, wake up!" he tried to shake you by the shoulders, occasionally cupping his steaming hands to your cheeks. Your hand resting on your stomach eventually fell on the ground under its own weight, adding a digit to the possibility that Loki was clearly not ready to hear. He cupped your cheek, trying his best to hold the sounds originating in his throat. He let his forehead touch yours, exchanging some golden light for a moment before wincing in pain. "No!" a guttural murmur left him, his head swaying in negation. The grunts in his throat were spilling out as if the pain he was feeling was unbearable. The tears just did not stop coming out. A scream followed. His head fell back. His lungs were at the edge of bursting. His cry emanated a green forcefield, destroying everything within a radius of two kilometres. The only ones left standing were Javi and Lulu. Your figure showed no signs of movement. Your being had no clue as to the destruction happening within inches of you; no clue that you would be the reason for the fall of King's throne in the next four minutes; no clue as to how tightly the God held you to his chest still never even having the thought of letting you go. The cave started to rumble. Javi looked around him, his eyes still wet, and inched closer to a lost Loki to get his attention even for a second. "We need to find a way out," Javi signed to a teary Loki whose mouth was suddenly dripping blood. The defeated eyes looked around him- though his arms never moved you away from his chest- and his brows furrowed lightly for a moment. "Come closer," he whispered to Javi and Lulu, and before they could make sense of the question, the camera caught a whirlpool of gold and green, blinding it for three seconds before returning to normal. The scenery had changed. What was once a prison in a cave was now an endless strange-looking forest. Trees with trunks which could house an entire Avengers Facility in them grew up to infinite lengths and yet still received ample sunlight from above. All the trees had buildings built inside them that the lens could see. A few curious eyes came out from the said buildings, others from inside the foot of the trunk. Most of them wore a pale white fabric, rather loosely, and somehow looked familiar to humans save for the green skin. One of the little humans stepped out of the trunk to walk closer to the clearing where you had landed in. In that clearing, Loki was on his knees, bloodied and battered in ways that were not visible on his body. "Se'tiri!" he shouted with whatever force was left in his lungs. His voice echoed through the forest, making that little girl run back to the steps of the trunk. All the curious eyes looked up at that one prominent structure etched quite high in the tree. From it, came a figure landing down effortlessly in front of the God. It was an eight-foot-tall green-skinned creature resembling the features of a human woman. In her right hand was a staff made of wood housing a blue flame which was protected by the wood's branches from every direction. "Se'tiri is not home," the woman spoke with weight in her voice and the touch of a Wakandan accent. Somehow it sounded exactly how nature would sound if it had a voice. "State your business to me, Trickster." Loki loosened his hold on your body to let the woman see your face. "Se'Tara, please. Save her." Se'Tara stomped her stick hard on the forest ground, sending a whirl of dust, wind and a force that easily blew away everyone but Loki and you. "Do not come into my home like we are old friends and then ask me to tend to one of your pets, Trickster!" "She is not-" "My people live in peace here and I shall make sure of it that you do not become a reason for a disturbance." "Se'Tara listen to me-" "Se'Tiri has been grateful to you for saving our lives but I will not tend to trouble that has your face on it-" "Se'TARA SHE IS DYING!!!!" The dam inside Loki broke again, taking the woman by surprise. "Tend to her before she is lost, Se'Tara. She is not a part of the feud between me and you. Please, I will do anything you say. Anything! just save her. Please." Loki carefully kept you down on the ground and let his head drop in front of the Chief. Se'Tara took a step back, not ready to see the sight of the God bowing down. Javi and Lulu too got on their knees and let their heads fall. She took in the site of the three different beings on their knees in front of her begging for the life of a frail creature lying in front of her. And finally, she looked at the frail creature. "Her life force is leaving her," Se'Tara claimed calmly, never easing her defensive posture. "She would require another life force so I can bring her own back-" "Take mine," Loki announced without skipping a beat, his head rising from the ground to let the Chief see those defeated eyes light up behind the tears. "Take mine. Drain it if you have to. Just save her. I beg you." Se'Tara was having a hard time believing the God. But those eyes. The Jotun eyes carrying a mountain of pain in them were what led her to let her guard down. "What is she to you, Loki?" "Everything, Se'Tara. She willed me to live and I would rather explode into atoms than let her die before me. She is the only force in this universe willing me to live, Se'Tara," Loki cried in a whisper before coughing up blood. "Ere'targgar!" Se'Tara shouted into the woods, making a dozen soldiers like her jump down from the trees. "Get her to the healing room," the Chief announced, "and take a hundred years of his life for her healing." Before the soldier came down to her knees in front of the God, Loki was already tearing away his sleeve to let her cut his life vein and trap the golden hues in a bottle. The soldiers moved in perfect sync while Loki watched them take your body to the tree platform above till he could no longer see your figure. .
Hours went by. A Day was Gone. So was another. Citizens of the tribe came by to offer the unexpected guests some food and water. Lulu and Javi ate enough to sustain themselves but Loki did not. He just sat there for the past two days like a statue, waiting for some news on you.  At night Javi and Lulu slept cuddled to each other under the borrowed blanket while Loki still sat in the same spot. On the third morning, some kids played with Javi's devices and Lulu when Se'Tara came down to Loki with some news. "She lives, Silvertongue. Her life is no longer in danger." Loki blinked. For the first time in three days, the God blinked, feeling a smile erupt on his chapped lips. A sigh left his lungs and the God's body went limp, hitting the ground within seconds. Se'Tara tilted her head at the fallen figure. "I didn't even take that much of your life force, dramatic God." .
PRESENT Se'Tara told her soldiers to tend to the God and the lens panned out to reveal the holographic screen where the footage ran. Three empty cans of beer rested on the table. As Loki entered the room, the fourth one was crushed in Natasha's hand as she looked through the screen at the God with eyes red from tears. It did not take much for him to figure out what had just happened. "You found it," he announced, his voice not much above a whisper. Natasha gulped the remaining beer in her mouth before pointing to the live footage of the lounge. "Why'd you do that?" Loki sighed and leaned on the door, closing his eyes and rubbing his forehead. "You know why I did that." Natasha threw the crushed can at him, missing him as he instinctively tilted his head away. "Sorry," he muttered, "hit me again. I won't move this time." Natasha growled, picking up her favourite axe from behind the monitors and smashing one of the screens before walking out of the room.
The Dorms The camera followed Tony through the hallway as he stopped in front of your room and knocked. "Hey, pumpkin," Tony announced, sharing a look with the camera, "I got some seasonal fruits that you like." The camera showed the basket in Tony's hand and waited for a few seconds. "Come in, Mr Stark," your voice announced, letting Tony open the door and find you sitting in the dark with just your study lamp on, packing an overnight bag. "Going somewhere?" Tony let his curiosity get the best of him.  "You know Yusuf? His sister's coming over from India and he asked me to come on a weekend trip to the 'burbs with them." You kept packing the stuff laying on your bed into the bag, never looking at Tony. Tony seemed to be aware of that for he exchanged a knowing look with the camera. "The 'burbs! You are really catching up fast on the local language." You chuckled. "Everything okay, honey?" Tony was soft with his tone. "Mm-hmm," you continued with the clothes while you nodded. He took your hand into his and rubbed your knuckles gently. "Are you sure you're okay?" You finally looked up at Tony and the chains inside you broke apart, bringing mist to your eyes faster than the speed of sound. "Can I tell you something?" your voice came out broken, making Tony exchange a worried look with the camera before sitting up straight. "Yes?" "Promise me you won't get mad." "Never," he put his other hand on top of yours. You looked into Tony's eyes and took in a lungful of air. "I liked someone and I confessed my feelings today...to them." Tony nodded, furrowing his brows. "But they don't like me back." Silence. Tony opened his mouth to say something but you cut him before he could start. "And that's alright! It's their choice and I cannot make them like me. I understand that." Tony nodded again. "But-" you looked at Tony, your eyes welling up- "it hurts. It's hurting me a lot, Dad, and it feels like something is crushing my chest." Your tears came out, your voice breaking down into an ugly cry and Tony's eyes went wide with a concern he did not know he carried. "I don't know how to stop it from hurting my heart. Even though I know it in my head, the pain just won't stop!" Without a word, Tony embraced you in a hug, telling you to let it all out. He simply patted you on your back gently, while the camera panned it on his own eyes getting a little misty. "Do you mind..." Tony did not have to say further. The camera walked out of the room, recording the father-daughter duo before closing the door on them.
Facility Rooftop Loki sat on the edge of the roof, his phone dialling someone on speaker. The camera approached him slowly from behind. The God constantly was looking at the horizon in front of him where the smoggy city lay. "Hello?" Peter's voice crackled on the speaker. "Hey, Mr Loki. What's up? Oh! Is Y/N okay? No more episodes today, I hope. Because you told me Miss Se'Tara had said she will only feel the after-effects of the healing for three weeks." Loki's back did not move. He still looked at something beyond, towards the horizon. "Hello? Mr Loki, sir?"
"Peter," the God finally spoke, "it's a ten." Silence. "Take me away from here, Peter," the God's voice was at the brink of overflowing. "Okay," Peter responded with a hint of worry, "I'm sending you the coordinates of the place where you can vent out whatever it is you are feeling." Loki looked at the text that has just popped up on the screen. Within seconds he was gone in the flames of green and gold, leaving his phone here on the rooftop. "And if you need me to acco-aaah! Oh! We are already in the desert." Peter announced over the line before ending the call.
