But I think it makes the most sense if Mammon's the first because;

• Mammon being MC's first friend/companion/tour guide is consistent throughout different AUs in om! (that we see in events and devilgrams). So it'd be odd if that suddenly breaks off here?

• He's also instantly intrigued by them/interested in them when he meets them as an angel in the celestial realm. I just imagine this is a constant for Mammon?

• Mammon in S3 says he wouldn't make a pact with a random human. Which is exactly what he did in S1 because despite being intrigued by MC at the time he didn't know them. However, S3 also shows that MC wasn't a random human. They travelled back in time to when the brothers were still angels, made a lasting impression on the them (they encourage Mammon's dreams, laugh at his pranks that no one finds funny and according to him they keep staring at him despite being called out twice). And though MC's and the brothers' memories of this time are erased, Michael says that the effect of their presence will be felt. Angel! Asmo & Lucifer also dream of MC though they can't remember who exactly they're missing (which means the others definitely had similar dreams). So then Mammon's decision to make a pact with MC in S1 could have been subconsciously influenced by this encounter (and it was a decision because being much stronger + faster than Levi & MC he could have easily gotten Goldie back without having to make a pact). Nightbringer happens after that encounter in the Celestial Realm. So the impact of that encounter would, realistically, still be felt in Nightbringer. In other words, the brothers may still feel drawn towards MC/feel like they're familiar

• In S1, MC is also instantly comfortable with him (enough to talk back to him over and over again) while they're reserved with the rest of the brothers until right before/after they make the pact. They've also been called out multiple times (in the main storylines or chats or devilgrams or events) for having a bias towards Mammon. Beel in S1 also said that MC had a tendency to seek out Mammon to talk with him. <- MC, themself, might just gravitate towards Mammon without him having to do anything

• They also never register Mammon as a threat, even during circumstances where they should (vampire devilgram, first paws event, s1). They're comfortable enough with him that they start regularly sharing a bedroom in S1 before they're even proper friends. So again, they may just gravitate towards him.

• Like in S1, Mammon might be the only safe option for MC in the beginning. He's clearly the only one who's got his shit together right now, while the others are visibly heavily traumatised. He's the only one with no regrets about his decision/who seems to have come to terms with what happened. It makes less sense for the ones who are Going Through It to make a pact with a random ass human than the one who is actually (considering the circumstances) extremely well adjusted

• MC's being dropped into Nightbringer to be a therapist to the brothers during their worst moment of life. Previously, Mammon's the one who took on this role (as seen in "The Rulebook" Devilgram). As you said Mammon's brothers need him and literally the best thing he can do right now is team up with the person who's also trying to help them in the same manner he is. It makes so much sense for them to be working together towards their common goal from the beginning, than to be at odds with each other until they make a pact later on

• By the process of elimination, Mammon's the only one who's mentally in a place to make a pact right now. AND at this point his brothers see him as extremely competent (because he is) and reliable - someone who can do anything he puts his mind to. After they Fall he's calm and collected, he's the one who talks them down/soothes their injuires and nightmares. They trust him. They'll, therefore, be much more open to making a pact with MC if Mammon already has one, if they feel like Mammon trusts MC.

• Mammon was literally created by the writers to be MC's "sidekick". It'd be weird to suddenly break away from something that was a major defining point during the creation of his character

I don't know what order they'll go in to make the pacts but listen,

I'm not even saying this as someone who's simping for this idiot;

It's just, objectively, it makes much more sense for Mammon to be MC's first pact again, than for any of the others.

Nightbringer Theories: OG timeline, OG characters, motives, & a few other thoughts…

So @impish-ivy’s post inspired me to attempt to type out the word soup of theories that have been sloshing around in my mind for a while!

I have thoughts on what the world in NB is, where the OG characters are/what they may be doing, and a few other theories below the cut. Spoilers below!

First, I’m wondering if this “world” is some type of test for the MC, be it their allegiance or a test of Solomon’s for his apprentice.

The OG ended with MC being able to travel freely between worlds and being a member of RAD student council. The previous season, MC had to pass a test to become a sorcerer. The final OG season were tests/trials to become a student council member. There’s been a theme of tests recently so I can’t help but wonder.

Is this world how someone wishes things could have been? Someone’s attempt at a second chance?

What’s the motive here? NB repeatedly talks of tipping the scale to have darkness but why? Do the fae want to return in a larger presence? Would this be beneficial to their return? Is this an attempt to awaken the Faerie King or the Demon King? Is this to somehow enlighten MC on relations between all the realms?

Is someone else driving this? Maybe Michael is involved due to regret. He has connections to Solomon. Solomon has a pact with Barbatos. It is inferred that Barbatos and Nightbringer are somehow related. Is Michael doing this to get the brothers back by making an argument that the DD is too powerful now?

There was never any mention of the brothers being pardoned and allowed back to the CR in the OG. It also seems weird to be pardoned and then punished in Cocytus but this could be because the brothers refused to go back.

The next plot point I’m concerned with is that I think it will be very wrenching to go back to the OG world/timeline if these characters are entirely different from the OGs. MC has formed bonds with them.

To remedy this: what if everyone except MC (and possibly Solomon and Barbatos) fell under some sort of shared dream that they are in the past and the current events never happened (memories wiped/altered).

Maybe these are the characters we all know and love and someone (NB) has put them under this spell for motives still unknown.

The MC’s room is nostalgic for everyone. It’s been made a point several times in the storyline by multiple characters that the room is special.

Mammon shares in a text that the term, “being first” in regard to MC feels important to him and he doesn’t know why. This is before their NB pact.

Almost every character states a familiarity with MC, feeling a deep connection to them. Even when memories are lost, it’s possible to still feel a connection with the ones most important to you.

These feelings could actually be from the fae or NB observing the characters but I’m leaning more towards this being the OG characters as this would be less messy for the writers.

It would also explain Luke’s existence and why RAD hasn’t been established yet. NB starts about a yearish after the Celestial War.

Luke was born after the war and is still considered a kid in the OG. When he’s introduced in NB, he’s petrified of demons and has never met the brothers in their angel forms, only relying on what Michael and Simeon have told him. Was he born a child instead of a baby like how Satan was born a fully grown adult? Was he born from Michael?

He’d have only been alive a year if he was born after the war. It’s not impossible but to be sent to the DD so soon after being born/created is highly sus tbh. I won’t ignore the possibility that he may have been born before the war but I feel like this would have been mentioned.

In the OG, RAD was already established before the fall. If anything, OM! is pretty consistent with their lore, at least in my opinion. They’ve always been very detailed and even dropped videos of the scrapped plot on YouTube. They’ve also put some of those scrapped ideas into NB. It just seems very odd to me that this would be mistake. I may be giving the writers too much credit though! I just figured I’d share my thought on this while we’re on the topic.

Just these points alone (plus the brothers being pardoned by the CR) make a compelling argument for this being an alternate world/reality or some type of shared illusion.

(Branching off the pacts: what if these are somehow pacts with the little D’s? Maybe the faeries and this world are the little D’s emulating the brothers. Just a side thought! Moving on!)

Now that our pacts are reforged, will MC break this illusion, freeing their friends and found family? Or stay in this dream world due to the new bonds formed?

MC wakes up in a place looking like an Assembly Hall where several people sat on their seats similar to a gallery. They do not know how they arrived there, but the one sitting at the highest position explained that they have been chosen as one of the human exchange students for the exchange program. The purpose of this program is for the harmony between the Devildom, Human World, and the Celestial Realm. Upon staying in the Devildom as an exchange student, MC has created pacts, deepening their relationship with them. Sooner, they found home with these demons who also saw them as a part of the family. MC also finds out a secret that could lead to their demise and potentially set chaos within the three worlds.

I was to choose a word befitting for the game. It would be: flavorful. From the isekai plot that evolves into a bigger world, the characters of a variety, and the storyline—it definitely surpasses your expectations.

It's very absorbing, I found myself wanting to know more about the lore, but especially the characters who really made the storyline so interesting. Their personality and sins greatly reflect their backstories—which gave depth to these unique characters. However, taking note that this is an otome, you might find yourself wanting more of their backstories; which I am. Although, another game is coming, Obey Me! Nightbringer! Which focuses on their stories and not the romance. Overall, I think playing the game and reading the MANGA (HUHU WISH I COULD BORROW) would tell you why it is so interesting! It's said that og om's storyline is gonna continue in om!nb SO we then know that the entirety of the game isnt going to spent in the past and we then must deal with the consequences of it alongside simeon's issues. how does it change mcs perspective on their friends? would they feel uncomfortable around mc with them knowing of their behavior fresh into the devildom as opposed to their macho, fear-inciting selves? would anything change due to their presense in the past?

does that mean there was a copy of the ring of light existing at that time? would the angels be aware of the presense of the ring? would they try to retrieve it? would past simeon see the ring and try to change the future?

i still havent progressed past lesson six and i havent read the past couple og lessons in forever. so apologies if i lack context and knowledge. 👍

We're not sure exactly how detailed you were looking for out of these, but here's our shot at summarizing so you can catch up for the upcoming season 4 release newly released season 4! (It came out while we were writing this...)

These ... got way longer than we expected so they are pretty hefty synopses of the seasons!! ;;; And we still left SO much information out, but we tried to include everything that was most relevant to the main storyline. Hopefully we didn't make too many mistakes lol.

SUMMARIES OF SEASONS 1 - 3

SEASON 1

When MC first arrives in the Devildom, Mammon is assigned as their guardian but doesn't really want to participate. However, by working with Leviathan who wants his money back, MC manages to convince Mammon into making a pact with them.

That night, MC hears a voice crying out for help which leads them to a staircase, but Lucifer appears and tells them to go to bed. This happens again the next night, and they determine that they will not be able to go up unless Lucifer can be distracted away somehow.

In order to do so, MC challenges Leviathan to a TSL trivia contest so they can get a cursed TSL soundtrack that Lucifer has been wanting. Then, using a secret weapon from either Simeon or Solomon, they send Levi into a jealous rage during the contest, which Lucifer stops before Levi can kill MC. As a result, Leviathan calls MC to the planetarium later and says he recognizes them as the winner, granting them a pact with him as promised.

MC is then able to ascend the staircase to the attic, where they find someone claiming to be a human that Lucifer has imprisoned in the attic. He asks for MC to help free him, telling them that they'll need pacts with all the brothers to do so, and he suggests Beel as the next.

The next day, a tantrum by Beel over Mammon's late-night snack stealing his pudding destroys the wall between the kitchen and MC's room. As a result, MC has to stay in Beel's room for a while, during which time he starts to tell them about Belphegor and Lilith. MC then realizes that it is actually Belphegor, not a human, that is trapped in the attic, but when confronted, he merely mocks them for falling for his lie. MC storms away, but after hearing an argument between Beel, who believes Belphie is in the human realm as an exchange student, and Lucifer, who is unhappy with Belphegor for trying to stand in the way of Diavolo's dream of uniting the three realms. To try to repair the relationship between the brothers, MC decides to try to help Belphegor after all.

Luke then texts MC that he ran away from Purgatory Hall after a fight with Simeon, so Beel and MC hide him in the twins' room. However, Lucifer announces a surprise inspection. They hide Luke in the closet, but after the inspection, he is nowhere to be found. After a while of searching for him throughout the house, they discover a hidden secret room which looks exactly like Lilith's old room, and Beelzebub tells MC more about her and the Great Celestial War. However, they are interrupted when Mammon frantically calls them to the underground tomb, where Lucifer found Luke wandering with a grimoire and is furious. MC tries to protect Beel and Luke from Lucifer, who is stopped just in time by Diavolo. As a thank-you, and out of respect for MC's desire to mend things between Lucifer and Belphegor, Beelzebub then agrees to make a pact. Lucifer later apologizes to MC as well for nearly killing them.

Diavolo announces afterwards that there will be a three-day overnight trip to the Demon Lord's Castle to promote bonds between the demons, angels, and humans. On the first day, there is a castle tour, during which a witch named Helene from one of the paintings recognizes Asmodeus and angrily sucks several of the group into the painting, dropping them into an underground labyrinth below the castle. There, they find Henry 1.0, a giant snake who was formerly Levi's pet, and Solomon uses his pact with Asmodeus to amplify the latter's charming abilities into being able to tame the snake, who leads them all out.

The next day's activity is a scavenger hunt, but Asmo keeps interfering with the other teams, leading MC to state how they'd like a pact with him. He mocks them but says he'll make a pact if they can do the impossible task of taking a picture of Lucifer sleeping. That night, there is a formal dance at the castle where Lucifer threateningly asks why MC is making pacts with his brothers, but Solomon steps in to save them and temporarily lends them some of his magic out of amusement. After the dance, MC and the brothers they have pacts with try to sneak into Lucifer's room to take the picture Asmo requested, but end up back in the labyrinth instead. MC quickly manages to use Solomon's lended magic to summon Asmodeus and repeat the earlier trick of charming Henry 1.0. Asmo then becomes incredibly curious about them because they show even more power than Solomon during this incident and decides to make the pact after all.

Noticing that Lucifer is concerned about how quickly MC is gathering pacts with all his brothers, Satan declares after the trip that he will make a pact as well just to frustrate the eldest brother, leading to an argument between them. Beelzebub warns MC that they won't be able to earn Lucifer's respect by getting Satan's pact this way though, and the brothers explain how Satan was born of Lucifer's wrath after the war. MC goes to check in on Satan, but Lucifer comes and the two get into another argument, which ends with them touching a forbidden book that swaps their bodies. This worries Lucifer because he is scheduled to give a speech in front of the entire student body in a few days.

Mammon eventually suggests to MC that they use Leviathan's new game to help Lucifer and Satan make up, which would make them have to work together towards a common goal in order to get out. This turns out to be a dating sim, with MC as the heroine that everyone must try to romance. During this, MC gets various interactions with them, including seeing Lucifer act much more relaxed, which he explains is because he doesn't have to worry about disappointing Diavolo in this game world, and later, MC passes along this explanation to Satan to reassure him that Lucifer doesn't see him as a child as much as he thinks. Finally, on the final day of the game, the end confession scene actually gets interrupted by an in-game final boss of Cerberus. As the dog is about to lunge at Satan, Lucifer commands Cerberus into behaving and threatens him if he harms his brother. This begins to breed newfound respect for Lucifer in Satan, but when they return to the real world after finishing the game, their bodies are still swapped.

A few days later, they still have not swapped back, so Lucifer, Mammon, Satan, and MC go up to the human realm to find the witch who originally created the body swap curse to have her reverse it. However, on the train ride to meet her, she is murdered, and Mammon is blamed as her killer. At her ghost's behest, Satan and MC solve the murder to clear his name and find the true killer. She then lifts the curse as thanks, but speaking to MC one-on-one, she notes that although Lucifer trusts them now, they will soon break that trust.

Back in the Devildom, all the brothers except Levi celebrate at a dinner with Diavolo. MC asks Diavolo how they were chosen for the exchange program, but he explains that Lucifer was the one to actually pick them. On the way home from dinner, Lucifer gets a frantic call from Leviathan, but the latter disappears with a scream just as he picks up. The brothers then all split up to try to find him in the house, during which Satan pauses to make a pact with MC, this time out of actual respect. However, all the other brothers start disappearing as well, leaving only MC and Lucifer. They come to the conclusion that this is also Levi's newest game taking over the house and that they must complete the game to bring back the other brothers, which means MC must romance Lucifer.

However, while asking each other questions to get closer, MC decides to confront him about having met Belphegor, which enrages Lucifer. The other brothers suddenly enter, having overheard about Belphegor, which then makes Beelzebub very angry. The whole scene is then interrupted by the appearance of Belphegor himself. Angry at Lucifer for the whole situation, Beelzebub leads MC and Belphegor away, and they go to stay at Purgatory Hall instead.

There, Beel tries to get more information from his twin about why Lucifer locked him away in the attic in the first place, when Diavolo appears. He explains that Belphie had tried to appeal to stop the exchange program because of his hatred of humans and threatened to kill all humans in an effort to prevent it, leading Lucifer to lock him away for his own protection. Belphegor then protests it being framed as sheltering him, but Diavolo clarifies that it was to shelter Belphegor from him, as his threat against humans amounted to treason against Diavolo's goals. As a result, Lucifer has now been placed under house arrest, and Belphegor is taken away to face justice.

With Belphie gone, Beelzebub and MC return to the House of Lamentation, where MC apologizes to each of the brothers in turn for deceiving them about their goals in making the pacts, except for Lucifer who has locked himself away in his room. They all then go back to the underground tomb so that MC can use the grimoire to try to get Lucifer out of his room, but upon touching the book, which is held by a statue of Lilith, they see a flashback of Lucifer pledging loyalty to Diavolo after falling from the war in order to save a dying Lilith. Lucifer arrives and explains that Belphegor's hatred of humans was because he blamed them for Lilith's death.

The brothers then further explain the background of the Great Celestial War, with Lucifer explaining that although there were other reasons, Lilith being sentenced to oblivion after giving her human lover a Celestial Realm fruit to save his life was the catalyst for his rebellion. He further explains that he pledged his loyalty to Diavolo in exchange for the demon prince saving his sister's life by having her reborn as a human. Armed with this new knowledge, they all decide to go appeal to Diavolo to release Belphegor. Diavolo agrees, but only on the condition that MC travel back in time to figure out exactly who released Belphegor, since MC had not actually succeeded in making the pact with Lucifer.

Barbatos sends MC through a portal back to the past, to when the brothers were disappearing, which is revealed to have been a trick on their part to try to get Lucifer and MC to make up. Not realizing that this is not the MC of their own timeline, the brothers send them back to Lucifer, but they quickly hide in the secret room when they almost run into Lucifer and their past self. However, in doing so, MC again sees Lilith's memories, and with those in mind, they go back up to the attic and touch the door to Belphie's room, which magically opens. Realizing that he is now free, however, Belphegor laughs at them for falling into his trap and attacks them, as he is still set on eradicating humans. MC faints but meets Lilith in their dream, who lends them her power to save her brothers and heals them.

From there, MC goes back downstairs and sees the brothers arguing, as well as the mangled body of MC from this timeline. Determined to kill MC, Belphegor again prepares to attack them but is stopped by the story of Lilith. Lucifer asks where MC heard this story, when Diavolo and Barbatos appear, revealing that MC is actually a distant descendant of the human that Lilith was reborn as. At last, Belphegor reveals that he blames himself for Lilith's death, and Lucifer admits to everyone that he should have told them sooner. Barbatos then uses his powers to collapse the timeline and makes this the sole "true" reality.

With all resolved, time moves ahead to the brothers preparing for Diavolo's upcoming birthday. Belphegor notices how wary all the other brothers are of him, however, which leads to MC aiding him in making amends with the others as they go about selecting gifts. When it comes to making up with Lucifer, the eldest then leads them back to the secret room and offers to let Belphegor use it whenever he misses her, much as he himself had long used it to unload the burden of the secret about her rebirth. Belphie declines, however, saying he wants to move forward.

The brothers all then attend Diavolo's birthday, where it is revealed that MC is the guest of honor. MC finds Belphegor outside at the party, where he remarks that they seem happy with the other brothers' gifts, which were actually for them. He doesn't have a gift for them but decides to give himself, in the form of making a pact with MC as well.

After another time skip, Lucifer notes that there is only one week left of MC's year-long stay in the Devildom. The brothers are all upset over this, but MC gradually spends time with each of them over the course of the week to placate them and prepare their goodbyes. Diavolo notes that Lucifer also seems distraught over their leaving, and on the final night, MC enters the eldest's secret study, where he offers up his pact as well. Finally, everyone gathers in the student council room as the exchange students all return to their realms, and MC says goodbye to everyone.

A while later, the demons are shown talking about how they miss MC and the other exchange students, and the season ends with the brothers discovering that Belphegor has regularly been having phone calls with MC since they left.

SEASON 2

The season starts off with a strange scene -- the background shakes and blurs while Solomon is talking to MC with a serious look on his face, telling them that they have to act and take a dagger and stab it through someone's chest.

The scene fades away and MC is back to their senses in the human world, getting a call from Mammon. He has to hang up soon though to go to a meeting -- and the moment he does, MC gets a text from Solomon, asking how they are doing. To their surprise, he appears before them and says that they're going back to the Devildom, because MC misses it don't they? Without being able to say anything, both MC and Solomon suddenly drop into the RAD Student Council Room, where Diavolo and the brothers were in the middle of a government meeting. They're all shocked and excited to see MC, welcoming the surprise of them returning to the Devildom!!

Solomon walks MC to the House of Lamentation while the brothers finish up their official business, and then he himself says he's going to go check out Purgatory Hall. The brothers come home, not able to contain their excitement, and eagerly make dinner for MC -- whatever cuisine they want!

This, however, leads to Mammon adding a "secret ingredient" to the soup, which turns out to be Golden Newt Hellfire Syrup, a special syrup that Leviathan had ordered. Turns out this syrup is a powerful aphrodisiac for demons, and makes them really horny towards humans and humans exclusively. The only way known to stop the effects of the syrup is that, if a demon has a pact with a human, the human can command them to do something. If the demon is given an order -- any order -- the syrup's effect is neutralized. Cue a whole section dedicated to brother-by-brother dealing with this. Truly, straight out of a fanfic.

After that whole ordeal, MC gets a text from Simeon, inviting them to visit the Celestial Realm. After some discussion of the brothers wanting to go too and Lucifer reminding them that they probably wouldn't be welcome, MC and Solomon both go make a trip to see Simeon and Luke in the Celestial Realm. The angels mention that Michael actually wanted to meet MC, but couldn't because they got news of a sacred spring in the eastern part of the realm was starting to dry out and Michael had rushed to investigate. It's then mentioned that Simeon and Luke are going back to the Devildom as part of a short-term program, which the elder angel just sort of forgot to tell his companion, and they all return to the Devildom together.

There is then a series of events which include one of Leviathan's 3D escape room games causing a headache for everyone. During one of these moments, MC can notice that Diavolo seems to have something weighing on his mind, but he asks MC to forget about anything he said and move on.

Diavolo appoints MC as head of the school festival committee, and they all eventually agree on putting on a play for the festival. This is also when it's revealed to Leviathan that the author of his beloved series TSL is no other than Simeon -- as Satan had suggested to ask Simeon to write the script for the play. The play gets approved and they go on with play preparations, which includes having to go and shop for costumes/props.

During the shopping trip, they run into Little D No. 2, who got lost/separated from Diavolo and Lucifer. They had gone to the carnival Devil's Coast to investigate an illegal casino (that Mammon is aware of) and now MC and Mammon are asked to help reunite No. 2 with Diavolo and Lucifer. A series of events happens at the carnival, and eventually everyone shows up there. Lucifer and MC have a moment together where Lucifer confesses that Diavolo has been acting strange/distant lately, to which MC helps encourage him to just ask Diavolo directly about it.

Fast-forward to later in the night at the carnival, and Beelzebub goes on a rampage at the Ghost's Cafe as they're not giving him more food. A whole fight breaks out with all the brothers and the staff, which MC steps in to stop by using their pacts to command all the brothers to stop. Their simple command of "Stay!" suddenly has all the brothers flat on the ground, much to their surprise. After this incident, the brothers are mumbling about how strong MC was to command all seven of them at the same time and with such a force.

After this incident, MC is asked several times by different people if they are feeling okay. MC responds that they're fine. Solomon is surprised that MC seems to be perfectly okay after controlling the Seven Demon Lords all at once, as he remembers how sore he was after the first few times he controlled demons.

Fast-forward after a series of events involving the brothers fighting with each other again and intense rehearsals under the very strict director Simeon, Diavolo suddenly gets called to attend to an urgent matter via a whispered message from Barbatos. Lucifer is ready to accompany him, but Diavolo tells Lucifer to not come, and instead invites Solomon. Both Lucifer and Solomon are surprised by this, but Diavolo leaves with the sorcerer without much more explanation. Lucifer is shocked and bothered by this, and later admits to MC that he has a feeling something bad is happening. Diavolo ends up dropping out of the play because he won't be able to make it back in time for the performance the next day, and so Simeon has gone ahead and rewritten the scenes and they'll be able to perform still as they rehearsed.

The play is put on to much success, which ends in a scene where MC as the protagonist decides to kill themself with a dagger instead of killing the princess that their beloved (Prince Lucifer) is set to marry. Important to remember for later.

Later, an unscheduled student council meeting is called. Diavolo announces that while the pass/fail line for exchange students is usually lowered to give them more leeway, that will be changing for MC. MC will now be expected to pass RAD exams at the same level as demons, with the reason being that if they are to control demons themself, they need to know as much as possible. Lucifer assigns Satan to be MC's tutor, and then there is a series of tutoring-time-with-Satan (and others) scenes. MC eventually passes the exams and all is well!

Cue Bloody Moon time, a phenomena that happens now and then in the Devildom which includes a popularity contest held at RAD. Asmodeus is determined to make it to the top, even though Diavolo and Lucifer always hold the top two spots. MC helps Asmo out and there is a whole arc with him and helping him with the contest.

Diavolo drops out of the competition and still hasn't told Lucifer what's going on, much to Lucifer's dismay. Simeon notes to Luke and MC that Solomon has been going in and out of the Demon Lord's Castle a lot lately.

At some point in all of this, Simeon also visits the castle, bringing a cake that Michael chose himself from the Celestial Realm. Simeon and Diavolo share some small talk, before Simeon tries to ask what Diavolo has been up to. The two get into a tense discussion, Diavolo airing his frustrations with angels and not being able to keep themselves out of Devildom business, which Simeon responds to by saying the Celestial Realm only does so when they think they are also affected. They couldn't care less what happens in the Devildom as long as it stays there -- and basically delivers a thinly-veiled threat message from Michael, saying that if this "business" is likely to affect the Celestial Realm in anyway, they won't hesitate to intervene.

Meanwhile, increasingly distressed about this whole situation, Lucifer asks Mammon to spy on Diavolo and Solomon using Mammon's crow familiars. The crows tell them that they went to the King's Tomb, which had collapsed. There was also a major landslide in the primeval forest, where an entire cliff face crumbled away. Lucifer asks Mammon to continue looking into it.

At the primeval forest, Diavolo, Barbatos, and Solomon are investigating. Solomon insists that Diavolo should tell Lucifer what's going on, but Diavolo continues to be cautious and insists that he doesn't want to stress Lucifer out/put a burden on him, especially since they're not 100% sure why these events are happening. Solomon then says that he should at least tell Simeon so that the Celestial Realm is clued in, to which Diavolo lightly grimaces and tells Solomon to first tell Simeon himself.

Back to the brothers, and they get into another mess of shenanigans to yet another one of Levi's games, where a curse was invoked when he tried to play a game before its release day. The curse can only be broken if whatever the person was wishing for at the time they opened the game comes true -- but Leviathan doesn't know which wish of the brothers needs to be granted. Cue MC and Leviathan going through a series of brother-by-brother moments granting their wishes. Beel's wish was to have a Devildom cocktail drink called the Siren's Song, which involves playing the song of a siren, which they manage to deal with by blocking their ears. After the curse is broken, it turns out that Beelzebub wanted a second Siren's Song but messed up and had to fight against the siren's call -- and in that attempt, thrashed about and messed with Lucifer's records -- breaking one of them in particular, the Hymn of the Reaper. Breaking the cursed record incurs the reaper's wrath, meaning that the reaper may shorten or end Beelzebub's life.

Solomon happened to visit the House of Lamentation during this, and takes everyone to the reaper's cave -- the reaper being a good friend of his (who we now know as Thirteen), he says, despite the reaper leaving a warning written in blood outside the cave for Solomon to not step a foot inside. The gang has to survive a series of traps in the reaper's cave to get to the end and see if they can break Beelzebub's curse.

During one of the traps, MC notices that Solomon seems to take something from one of the rooms, but he denies it and moves on. After eventually surviving the various traps, they come to the cave that holds everyone's life candles -- and Beelzebub's is burning much faster than everyone's else. Lucifer takes his candle and drips some of the life essence wax onto Beel's, saying that with their long lives, he has more than enough to spare to make Beelzebub's last longer. The other brothers join in, adding to Beelzebub's candle. However, the candle is still burning quickly.

MC insists on adding a drop from their candle as well, which everyone tries to stop as human lives are much shorter and it's a bigger deal if MC does so. MC doesn't listen and adds a drop to Beelzebub's candle -- and suddenly a flash of light happens and Beelzebub's candle is back to normal.

While this is all happening, Diavolo and Simeon are now at the primeval forest as Diavolo fills Simeon in on what's been going on. Solomon has given his theory that MC is the reason all of these things are happening, and Simeon asks why Diavolo hasn't told Lucifer about all of this. Diavolo insists that they don't know if MC is really the cause, and he doesn't want to burden him and the brothers since MC is very important to them. However, Simeon and Barbatos both push Diavolo to tell Lucifer, and he relents and says he'll go to Lucifer and tell him everything face-to-face.

The brothers + MC + Solomon return to the House of Lamentation, still not clear on what exactly happened. Solomon is about to tell MC something when Lucifer collapses/faints, sending everyone into a panic. Solomon says he'll get the others, and soon the entire cast is at the House of Lamentation. Lucifer is still unconscious.

Diavolo tells everyone that strange things have been happening in the Three Realms. Solomon had noticed that ancient sites and those associated with the Devildom/Celestial Realm in the human world had been crumbling or were being destabilized (earthquakes, volcanoes, etc.), the Devildom was experiencing the same, and so was the Celestial Realm though to a lesser degree (remember the dried out sacred spring?). It turns out this is the reason Solomon brought MC back to the Devildom in the first place -- as he figured it had to do with them and wanted to test out his hypothesis. Turns out he was right!

Before they can further explain why MC is the cause of it, Luke runs in saying that Lucifer has woken up. Everyone rushes to see him -- only to find that he has amnesia and doesn't remember who anyone is. They realize that Lucifer's amnesia was likely also caused by this strange phenomena, which is all a result of the strange connection MC shares with all three realms. They refer to this as the "ring", and have to figure out how to stop it from basically destroying everything.

The options are limited -- the Ring of Light is the optimal solution, and it was Lucifer's ring before the Great Celestial War. It is essentially the equivalent to Solomon's Ring of Wisdom that he received from Michael. However, the ring was lost during the war and never recovered, so that isn't an option. Simeon takes note of this.

Solomon reveals that he did indeed take something from the reaper's cave -- the Night Dagger. MC will have to sever all of their pacts to bring stability to the Three Realms again since there is no other way of containing their powerful magic. Solomon has to research on how exactly to use the dagger and goes to do so.

Meanwhile, there are scenes with amnesia!Lucifer and brother bonding time as they all get to see a different side to Lucifer -- his more rough, open self that he usually hides. The brothers are also sad about having to end their pacts with MC, but all assure MC that nothing will change about their relationship otherwise.

Solomon eventually comes back to the House to talk to MC about how the Night Dagger will work. Remember that scene from the beginning of the season? It was a vision of this scene! Solomon says that the Night Dagger's power is depleted, and the only way to restore it is to kill a very powerful demon with it.

The demon in question? Lucifer.

However, Solomon then quickly says he could never actually ask MC to do something like that. He cares too much about MC and while he would do it in their place as the human realm's safety comes first, he couldn't bear to do something that would hurt MC. He'll try to find another way, even though all his efforts thus far have been fruitless. Lucifer interrupts, having heard the conversation, and orders Solomon to leave. Solomon resists at first, but then leaves and says he'll come back with Diavolo and Barbatos the next day to talk further.

Once Solomon is gone, Lucifer tells MC that while he doesn't have all his memories, he is certain of one thing -- that he cares deeply for MC and his brothers. He is willing to sacrifice his life if it means that everyone else will be safe, and tells MC to go ahead and stab him with the dagger. While MC resists, Lucifer guides their hands to position the dagger at his chest. Lucifer remarks that this scene seems familiar somehow ... did they perform it in a play or something? If that's the case, MC just needs to do what they did then. MC is then given the option to stab Lucifer, stab themself, or tell Lucifer to "Stay!" as he guides the dagger to his heart.

Thankfully, any stabbing is interrupted by a flash of light -- Simeon has appeared, and slips a ring onto MC's finger. Lucifer's Ring of Light, which immediately works to get MC's magic/power contained. MC has a moment talking to a faceless voice, who is presumably Michael. Michael notes that he's surprised how much the demons care for MC, and asks MC about their choice earlier with who they stabbed. He says he looks forward to learning more about MC, and then MC regains consciousness. Lucifer is back to normal, his memories returned and panicking over MC, and everyone is relieved that they were able to stop things from getting worse.

We find out then that Simeon had a suspicion that Michael had in fact retrieved the Ring of Light after the war and kept it away (along with his other Lucifer memorabilia). Simeon actually returned to the Celstial Realm and ended up taking the ring without Michael's permission. Michael warns Simeon over text that they need to have a serious conversation, though Simeon sasses him back saying the ring was Lucifer's in the first place.

All is well! (Except for the fact that Lucifer is furious that Diavolo and Solomon didn't tell him anything, and ends up punishing them both for it -- yes, Lucifer does in fact string Diavolo up from the ceiling, along with Solomon!)

Afterwards, there is a party at the Demon Lord's Castle. There, Solomon asks MC if they would be willing to now become his apprentice, to which MC agrees. Solomon is delighted to have a fellow powerful sorcerer by his side. MC's time in the Devildom is coming to a close, and Solomon says that if MC wants to learn to summon the demons to the human world, they have to get something of importance from each of them. Cue a series of scenes with the brothers to get those items. During all of this, the brothers also comment that Lucifer has been making them do various things -- cleaning up rooms, giving away items, clearing up debts -- but they're not sure why.

Despite all this, the brothers really don't want MC to leave ... so they try kidnapping MC and sneaking away through a secret passageway through the Underground Tomb. Their plans are foiled as they emerge from the passage -- Diavolo and Barbatos are waiting, having predicted that the brothers would do exactly this. Diavolo says that he needs MC to return to the human world and learn from Solomon to help guard the human world and work towards his goal of peace between the Three Realms.

Everyone sadly accepts that MC must leave, and they all give their heartfelt goodbyes as Barbatos opens a portal to the human world.

SEASON 3

MC has been training for a while under Solomon in the human realm now. One day, he says he has a babysitting job for them, and gives the address. MC shows up at quite the fancy manor, and goes to the door -- only to be surprised when Asmodeus answers, slamming the door right back in his face in shock. Turns out that the demon brothers are up in the human world on extended vacation, and that's why Lucifer had them cleaning up as they would be in the human world for a bit. They welcome MC to their home, Serenity Manor, where they had Barbatos set up portals that make it so they basically still have their Devildom rooms -- including MC's. MC basically moves in to Serenity Manor for the time that the demons are in the human world.

Everyone's reunited, happy times, and MC goes around with the brothers a bit in the human world. MC also bumps into Luke, and finds out that both Simeon and Luke were sent by Michael on a mission to observe the human world. To do so, they opened a cafe called the Angel's Halo. During this time, there is a discussion about angels and their ranks, and it is revealed that Simeon's rank is currently an archangel, while Luke is unranked and would like to be a principality some day.

Fast forward a few events, and MC finds themself suffering from a side-effect of Solomon's cooking (which had everyone else very sick for some time as well). Asmodeus is also affected, and the both of them end up passing out -- only for MC to wake up to an Angel!Asmodeus in the Celestial Realm. MC is very confused, and ends up meeting the brothers as angels one by one with the exception of Lucifer, who is apparently on an official diplomatic visit to the Devildom at the time. This is also when MC first hears of Raphael, as Asmodeus complains about him and has to make sure that MC is not with him. The brothers all think MC must be some low-ranking angel that got lost, and if MC mentions that they know Simeon, they're surprised that MC knows a seraph. In the middle of a conversation, there is a flash of light and MC faces the white void with a mysterious voice -- once again, presumably Michael. He apologizes and says that Solomon's cooking somehow launched MC back in time, but they would be returning to the present again. Michael makes a mention that while Solomon has a good head on his shoulders, this is how he ended up accidentally making himself immortal too.

MC wakes back up in Asmodeus' room, who also wakes up. He mentions he had a strange dream, but otherwise MC does not discuss what happened. A few more brother moments happen, and MC finds out one morning that they're to be meeting up with Solomon.

Solomon brings MC, along with Beelzebub and Lucifer, to the Sorcerer's Society. It turns out that Solomon and the Sorcerer's Society are not on good terms, but having Lucifer and Beel there helps give MC some credibility as they go to register for a license to start using more magic within the human realm. However, this requires them to be awarded 7 stars -- each representing one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues. Solomon begins the first test immediately by shrinking Lucifer to handheld size and telling MC that they must utilize Beelzebub's full power to keep him protected. Beel initially doesn't expect it to be a problem if they just bring him safely home, but Lucifer points out that he lives with his biggest threats who would most like to do him harm -- his brothers, a point which is quickly proven true by the other brothers dropping them immediately into an RPG upon their return with Satan as the antagonist. Nonetheless, MC is able to harness Beel's powers through various trials to complete the game, as well as win their first star from Solomon, who totally knew about the RPG plan and made himself the actual final boss.

Next, Diavolo goes missing from a Barbatos portal gone awry, but Levi's recent new "friend," a smart home speaker assistant named Crowe, helps MC and the brothers find him at a karaoke room. However, the karaoke room, which is also controlled by a Crowe (and the Three-Legged Crow group, a Devildom company that also made the D.D.D.s), is cursed so that no one can leave until someone completes a song with a perfect score, and all other attempts end in them getting sent to a mysterious "punishment room." The brothers take turns attempting but all except Leviathan fail for one reason or another, until Diavolo successfully completes his song. However, he also gets sent to the punishment room and none of the earlier brothers are freed, leaving only Levi and MC free to leave. Levi, angry at the perceived betrayal of his electronic little friend, demands that Crowe free everyone if they succeed on the next song, and he and MC successfully save everyone by singing an anime song as a duet. The experience fosters a new friendship between Levi and Diavolo, and MC earns their second star from the demon prince as well. Following this ordeal, Diavolo and Barbatos also travel up to the human realm for a more extended stay, with Diavolo being revealed as the owner of a deluxe hotel company.

Next up, Luke, Mammon, and MC read about fairies and want to try to find some. While reading up about the fairies, MC has a discussion with Luke, who is shown to not really know what the Great Celestial War was actually about, but he mentions that Michael seems to still miss the brothers a lot. Wanting to mend things for Michael's sake, he asserts that whatever the brothers did, he's sure Michael would forgive them if they just apologized. They continue their research, and find a possible location to find some fairies. To get there, they take a long train ride together, during which Mammon teases the young angel relentlessly and takes it a bit too far. He then explains to MC that Michael must have very high expectations of Luke, talking about how Michael probably wants Luke to expand his worldview which includes understanding demons. After getting off the train, Luke gives MC his blessing as protection, and the group makes their way through a forest to try to find the fairies, only to instead come across what appears to be the House of Lamentation.

Soon after entering, however, MC gets separated from the two of them, but then gets a call from Satan. MC mentions what's happening, and soon after both Satan and Simeon suddenly appear via portal (courtesy of Barbatos). Suddenly, they are transported to what appears to be the Celestial Realm of the past, back when the brothers were still angels and Simeon was still a seraph. Simeon tells the brothers that MC and Satan are simply some lost angels. There is a series of events with the angel brothers, and then an outburst from Satan which leads both Satan and MC to leave the others -- and run into angel Lucifer. Satan and MC say that they are both angels that are with Simeon when he questions who they are. Lucifer then says if they are a seraph's assistants, they can help him out with a task that Raphael threw at him to do. Satan and MC help Lucifer with organizing the Celestial Palace's library, which leads Lucifer to comment on how nice it would be to have a brother like him. There is then a brief moment where Lucifer tricks Satan into opening a book that restrains him -- confirming that Satan and MC are in fact not angels, and that Satan is a demon. However, he soon releases Satan, admitting that while he once thought all demons were awful and terrible, a certain demon (Diavolo) has been making him reconsider things. He invites Satan and MC to join him as he meets up with the other brothers.

The brothers then get together at a fake planetarium that Michael had constructed to stargaze , which Satan had always previously felt left out from because of how the brothers would talk about their Celestial Realm days when they did so. Afterwards, they are returned to the present and reunite with Mammon and Luke, revealing that the whole experience since entering the forest was an illusion created by the fairies because they liked the hawthorn berry powder that covered Satan from a mishap at the Angel's Halo before they arrived. Oh the way back, Simeon reflects on how those times before the brothers fell were the happiest of his life, and how lonely he's felt since. MC then receives two more stars, one from each angel.

For MC's next star, Solomon poses a test of a game of Tail Thieves, in which MC, Barbatos, and the brothers all have tails which they must try to pull off of each other. Solomon tells MC that they must retrieve the tails from everyone else, but that Asmodeus and Barbatos will be on a team with them to help them with this task, and as part of that, he lends MC Barbatos's grimoire, which they further explain contains all details of a demon's life. However, Barbatos asks MC to please refrain from using his grimoire as he's not comfortable enough with them to offer that trust, but he assures them that he will be very useful even without it. Asmodeus, for his part, keeps pressuring MC to open the grimoire to find out all of Barbatos' secrets. The three of them go around gathering tails from everyone, and at one point, Asmo runs off for skincare, leaving MC with an opportunity to chat briefly with Barbatos one-on-one. After gathering the last of the brothers' tails, MC is relaxing with Asmo and Barbatos, but they reveal that they weren't truly on MC's team after all and promptly pull MC's tail off. However, when Solomon returns, he says that the test was not actually about the game but about resisting the temptation to use or look through Barbatos's grimoire, so they pass.

A few days later, MC is invited to spend the day at an amusement park with Diavolo, but Beel is worried about Belphie, who has been just staying home sleeping even more than usual, and asks MC to take him along too. On their way, Belphie sees Simeon meeting with someone who looks familiar, though he doesn't say who. Separately, Barbatos makes a delivery to the cafe and chats with Luke, when the young angel expresses concern over how Simeon has been zoning out lately and seems to be avoiding Michael. He further explains that it was actually Raphael, not Michael, who instructed them to go to the human realm.

Once MC and Belphegor arrive, Diavolo is excited to see and do all sorts of things, but Belphegor, still bitter over not being heard out on the exchange program, accuses him of being selfish and not caring about the feelings or opinions of others. Upon hearing this, Diavolo feels guilty and hears him out, and they go to what Belphie wants to do instead, which is a scary ride that overwhelms Diavolo a bit. MC and Belphie then get separated from the prince and look for him, though Belphie wants to relax instead. Eventually, they are called by the front desk to get Diavolo, at which time they learn he was actually kidnapped and is being held hostage, though he seems very cheerful about the whole thing. However, when the kidnappers try to shoot at Belphie, Diavolo gets much more serious because they are now threatening a precious member of his realm, even if bullets don't do anything to demons. The kidnapper flees in terror at both Belphie's and Diavolo's demon forms, and crisis is averted. Afterwards, they continue having fun at the amusement park for the rest of the day, with Belphegor finally relenting at the end to do some of the more silly fun things that Diavolo had wanted to do, which he had initially rejected at the start of the day. They all head back to Serenity Manor for dinner, the brothers noticing the better relation between Diavolo and Belphegor, and MC then receives their sixth star.

Later one morning, Lucifer receives a call from Barbatos to bring all the brothers to the hotel, and Simeon and Solomon happen along as well. It turns out that Mammon and Levi accidentally summoned a bogeyman, a fearsome spirit which takes the form of one's greatest fear, and sent it to the hotel in a panic to try to get rid of it. As a result, it is now wreaking havoc in the hotel. Solomon decides that this is a good chance for MC's final test and sends them to defeat it, offering up Simeon to help. Simeon also mentions that while Luke himself is seemingly unaware of it, he is actually extraordinarily powerful, and his blessing still protects MC even now, meaning that the boogeyman's tricks don't work on MC.

Together, they all go through multiple rounds of facing the bogeyman with different brothers' fears. Finally, when Satan comes face-to-face with a taunting angel Lucifer that preys on his insecurities, MC and the actual Lucifer snap him out of it, helping him overcome his inferiority/clone complex so that MC can use Satan's powers to attack and seemingly defeat the bogeyman. Mostly everyone leaves to chase Mammon and Leviathan for putting them in this situation, but the bogeyman attacks one more time when only Lucifer, Simeon, and MC are in the room, taking the form of a light, which is seemingly God/Father. Lucifer claims that this must be the boogeyman showing his fear and instructs MC to harness his power to finish off the bogeyman once and for all. Afterwards, however, Simeon seems visibly shaken from seeing Father and says he hasn't seen that light in a very long time.

MC is then given the final star needed for their sorcerer's license, and there is a big celebration party. During this party, MC overhears a conversation between Lucifer and Simeon -- with Simeon insisting that the boogeyman was actually showing his fear, not Lucifer's, earlier. Lucifer notices MC is there, and they drop the subject.

The brothers also must soon prepare to return to the Devildom. They decide to throw a "see you again" party, with the brothers all talking about how MC is part of the family now as they prepare for the celebration and talking about how much they will miss them. At the party, they decide to ask Diavolo if MC can actually join their family via marriage, with some bickering over who would actually get to marry them. Though amused, Diavolo says it's not that simple unfortunately, as there is a deep history of tensions and conflict between the realms. Nevertheless, MC will continue their magical training under Solomon, which will eventually allow them to learn more advanced magic such as how to teleport to the Devildom or summon the brothers up to the human world. Promising that this is not their final goodbye, the demons all return to the Devildom for the start of another school year at RAD.

However, upon returning, there is a letter from Michael announcing who the next exchange students will be, and Diavolo calls Lucifer over with some grave news he's received concerning Simeon. Simeon, meanwhile, receives a surprise visit at the cafe from the snide seraph Raphael...

Lesson 54 analysis + 55 predictions

This lesson was light on the lore, so this will be mercifully short.

If I can find out how to post commentary with 10+ images later, I'll do that and give you all the juicy spoilers. Until then, though, you'll have to settle for the highlights. Apologies.

Barbatos's Origins

The interesting morsels in Lesson 54 are Barbatos-related, naturally. It wasn't so much a character arc for him so much as it was a finally-getting-to-know-him-sort-of arc.

Sort of.

This makes it obvious that Barbatos was not always in his current position, and that Devildom society considered the position beneath his power and capabilities as a demon. He's likely more powerful than the brothers, who are considered the rulers of the Devildom alongside Diavolo.

I've theorized before that this bit in Season 1 may give us some insight into Luke's potential origins, but it is also just as relevant to Barbatos, who is clearly the manservant it's alluding to.

It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that this is a red herring they had no serious intention on following up in later seasons: something to just throw out there for funsies and to create an amusing anime title. Personally, since we've found out that Solomon has had someone he pined for in the past, I think we're full up of long lost love backstories and there may be too much overlap if they intend to go with it.

If they really want to jump the shark, both Barbatos and Solomon could have once loved Lilith! No other women exist in the story outside of Lilith and possibly MC!

There's are other interesting crumbs in Barbatos-related Devilgrams and chat conversations.

This hints at some special regard for humans as a whole. As we found out in the previous lesson, Barbatos decided to answer Solomon's summons, for whatever reason. Why does Barbatos have a soft spot for humans, I wonder?

I think there's a decent chance that we'll find out that Barbatos is some ancient, primordial being that predates the creation of the Devildom and the Celestial Realm -- or an entity that just always existed along space and time itself. Obviously Barbatos is a demon now, but it may have been a voluntary choice on his part to become one OR he was changed due to some mishap on his part (like falling in love with an angel and "messing up" in his quest to be with them, or the previous Demon King doing something to him).

We do know that Barbatos acts more like a caretaker towards Diavolo than just a servant, and Diavolo -- the most powerful being in the Devildom -- feels obligated to mind him. The reason behind this is probably related to how he came to be in the Demon King's service.

He’s a weird snake thing in demon form so he might be related to the ouroboros, which is supposed to embody the start and end of time.

Innate Angel Abilities

It's nothing new or surprising, but we learn that angels may have innate qualities that draw humans to them. Barbatos is unsurprised when you tell him you're fond of Simeon and Luke.

It might just be varying degrees of the super charisma that Lucifer and Michael are alluded to have, but it might also contribute to MC's apparent magnetism. The game repeatedly alludes to our pseudo-angelness.

It might also, funnily enough, work on demons.

But Diavolo has admitted he doesn't like Simeon, who was once a high-ranking angel, so I won't be surprised if Lucifer is just special.

Barbatos's Grimoire

We learned it was a fake, so Barbatos may not necessarily trust Solomon as much as he said he did in the previous lesson. It was a ploy he and Asmodeus were in on all along!

Though I'd argue agreeing to a pact with him still suggests there's a high degree of trust there. Solomon might still have it: he might just not have trusted us to have it. The whole trial was to demonstrate that we could keep a secret/not violate Barbatos's trust.

And I was right, it was the trial of chastity.

We have just diligence and humility left.

Predictions

It sounds like we may be heading to a theme park for the next lesson. Beelzebub and Belphegor have fond memories of sneaking off to human carnivals back when they were angels, so I wouldn't be surprised if the trial of diligence has an arc involving Belphegor. He's up for one.

I've theorized the trial of humility will be last on the docket and will revolve around Lucifer. That's where the climax is gonna be, or it will be after that trial is completed and we get our last star. Others have pointed out that it could involve a conflict with the Sorcerer's Society due to the shenanigans Solomon's past apprentice pulled. We are, after all, doing all this to get our coveted sorcerer's license so we're legit.

We still haven't figured out what Michael intends to do. We've went from talking about him frequently to not talking about him at all, but the storyline do be like that sometimes.

We still have six lessons left, so there's plenty of room for something to happen.

These last few hours had been torture, some strange spell had taken over The House of Lamentation while you had been at RAD finishing some school work, arguing and shouting between all of the brothers as they were forced to reveal their truths about one another. Apparently Satan had wanted to prank Lucifer and ended up using a more powerful spell than he had intended to, now all of them were under a pact to tell the truth for the next 18 hours, the last 3 and a half had been nothing but shouting, from everyone, and the 30 minutes before that was the revelation.

The common room had all of the brothers in and you had tried your best to walk past without being seen, hoping to get to the kitchen and make a drink so you could get back to your studying but you had been spotted. Your name shouted from five out of seven of the brothers, Satan and Lucifer being the only ones who had decided to ignore, faced away from each other with their arms crossed and brows furrowed.

“MC!” Asmodeus was clinging to your arm, dragging you into the site of conflict, a very loud groan leaving your mouth as you rolled your eyes, “I am the most handsome out of my brothers aren’t I?” Asmodeus’ voice was desperate to know your answer but before you could interject with your opinions Lucifer piped up.

“MC has not been affected by Satan’s immature spell so you won’t get the truth from them, Asmodeus” you looked at the eldest with disdain, Asmodeus sighing as his plan was foiled. He knew that the brothers would respect your word and finding out that Lucifer, Mammon, and, astoundingly, Beelzebub thought themselves more handsome than him had floored the avatar of Lust.

“Lucifer no fair! This is ridiculous, you used to think I was the most beautiful angel in the celestial realm. What changed?” Asmo looked like he was about to cry, his eyes sparkling with new found tears as his brothers looked on to his breaking visage, the new information breaking his spirit in a way he never thought would happen.

Lucifer sighed before taking a step towards you both, intent on leaving the room “Any answer you receive you will not be content with, Asmodeus, this is ridiculous, I am spending the remainder of this time in my study away from all of your prying questions”

“Why?” You heard some of the men gasp as Satan’s voice piped up, “scared we’ll actually get some answers to the question we ask on a constant basis?” All of you, apart from Lucifer, were looking at Satan, his hands on his hips and a red, angry, glow surrounding his aura. 

Lucifer took a sharp breath in before sighing and continuing to walk out, “perhaps, there is a reason I don’t answer them?”

“Because you want to keep us tied to you?”

“Satan, calm down…” Mammon stepped forward with his hands out, in an attempt to calm Satan before he got too ahead of his accusations. You could do nothing but look between them, the tension in the room so thick you could basically see the lightning flashing between stares and glares.

“Yes”, Lucifer clasped a hand to his mouth, eyes wide as gasps echoed through the room.

You attempted to diffuse some of the tension, stepping between Satan and his brother, “Lucifer… he didn’t mean that, it’s a hard question to answer truthfully, especially in one ans-“

“I knew it. You just want to keep us locked up down here, with you!” Belphegor pointed at Lucifer, daggers in his eyes as Beelzebub held him back. Venom was basically dripping from Belphegor’s words, poison spat with the last two.

“I’m keeping you all safe!” Lucifer spun around, hand cutting through the air as silence fell over the room, furrowed brows and agape mouths directed to him. No one spoke, no one dared to, not a single person in that room wanted to break the silence with their words, instead they chose to remain quiet and go their separate ways.

Lucifer turned back around with a huff and stormed off to his study. Mammon sighed and sat down onto the sofa. Leviathan walked off behind Lucifer mumbling to himself about something, Satan stormed into the corner of the room so he wouldn’t have to see the back of his eldest brother. Asmodeus, Beel, and Belphie all sat down together talking amongst themselves about the revelation. All that was left was you. You stood there dumbfounded and at a loss for words, no way of knowing how you wanted to tackle this situation and which one of the brothers to go and check on first.

“MC?” Mammon’s voice cut through the silence, and you turned to face him, a genuine look of concern on the demon of Greed’s face, “are you alright?”

“That was a shit show, Mammon” you sighed and walked over to sit next to him, planting your head in your hands and staring over at Satan. He was sitting in the chair and reading, a pout on his lips and a furrow upon his brow as his hand supported his slightly red face. 

“Yeah you ain't gotta tell me that” Mammon leaned back and held his hands against the back of his head sighing frustratedly, stretching his legs out and letting his tension melt away. “The fact of the matter is that this ain’t gonna be a quiet house until this curse wears off”

You were still staring at Satan, a lovelorn look in your eyes but a naturally furrowed brow. “Mammon, why are things always so complicated here?”

“It’s only natural for demons to run wild, ya know? We weren’t allowed to do much of this when we were angels, got our orders and then we had to stick to ‘em”

“Satan never got that though, did he?”

“Naw, he was born out of Lucifer’s wrath, so he only spent a little while in The Celestial Realm gettin’ to grips with being alive and all, and then suddenly we were at war, and then we were here”

“Do not talk of me as if I am not here.” Satan stood up and glared at the both of you before walking past, presumably to his room or the library. You gave him a sorry look, and stuttered to apologise but it was denied, he had already walked past you with his nose held high and a huff in his breath.

“MC?” Beelzebub called out your name and you looked over, another demon who was concerned for you, “don’t let it get to you” he gave you a soft smile as Belphegor ignored Asmodeus’ pleas for attention.

You replied with your own smile before standing and sighing, “thanks Beel.” The room was cold, the fire doing nothing to ease the freezing tensions of previous confessions.

The house being quiet was alien, there was always an argument, music, conversations happening throughout the halls but not now. It was deathly silent, the soft sound of the teaspoon clinking along the sides of the mug as you stirred the sugar into your tea.

“I wonder if Satan is okay?” You murmured to yourself as you stirred aimlessly, sugar completely dissolved and liquid sloshing around without intent. A few minutes passed before the slamming of a door pulled you from your daydreams, you gasped and proceeded to compose yourself, cleaning off your dishes and walking back to your room.

As you passed Satan’s room you heard what you could only assume were books being thrown about as his voice rang out amongst the desolate stillness. You stopped at the door and knocked lightly, the throwing stopping as a stern statement rang out.

“What?”

“Satan are you alright?”

“No. Do I sound like I’m alright?”

“No…”

“Then go away.” His words hurt but you understood, he needed time alone before he could think rationally about it all and talk about it. He had to let his wrath calm down so you could talk about it, the perks of the Demon of Wrath having a soft spot for you.

“If you need to talk, then please come and see me. Okay?” You awaited his response but nothing came, so unfortunately you had to use a last resort. “Satan, will you come and see me about all of this when you’ve calmed down?”

“Y-yes.” The spell worked and he told you the truth, content with his reply you hummed affirmatively and began to walk back to your room.

Beel came walking down the other side of the hall, towards the kitchen and looking for a snack no doubt.

“Hey, Beel, are you okay?”

“Hungry”

You could see his brows furrowing as his eyes shone with a desperate tone, his stomach growling as evidence of his words. You chuckled and placed a hand on his bicep before stopping and tugging at the clothes, Beelzebub looked down at you with raised eyebrows and gave a confused hum.

“Beel do- do you really think you’re more handsome than Asmodeus?” His eyes widened before he sighed and looked away.

”Hmmmm, yes and- and no, I work hard to keep myself fit, Asmo works hard to keep himself looking like- him- I dunno I just feel like I work more to keep looking this way”

You looked at him with a newfound sense of awe, the gluttonous demon’s honesty making you feel just that little bit sad that his hard work to keep fit and healthy goes more unnoticed than Asmodeus’ work.

“Yeah you do have a point, this honesty thing is really hard to keep black and white when it’s all such a grey area…” Beel smiled at you and placed a hand on your head, ruffling your hair slightly and giving a small chuckle.

“It’ll be okay, we have you MC! You always get us out in the end” his reassuring words and smile brought a warmth to your chest, you wrapped your mug free hand around what you could of him and gave Beel a hug, his appreciative hum telling you he enjoyed it.

“There’s a Toad Mucus doughnut in the fridge that has my name on it, you can have it as a thank you” Beel’s eyes widened and he smiled thanking you silently.

You walked off to your room and proceeded to study for the night, cramming in as much research for your schoolwork before heading off to bed, still worried about Satan. He hadn’t come to visit you, even though he said he would and being under a truth spell means he wouldn’t have been able to lie.

Was he still angry? Was his room burning? Was everything smashed? As you spiralled into your thoughts a knock came at the door, and it didn’t even wait for you to say enter before opening.

Ah! I forgot to ask what you think of the Angel event. In my opinion, it's not a bad event, but god was it weird. Maybe I'm just weird and I think people being super nice is too suspicious (considering I am STILL sus of Simeon). I think I would have liked it more if the ending wasn't the party but instead them turning back and we get to tell them that we like them just the way they are

I have pretty mixed feelings about this. I didn’t like the actual content of the event but I did like the potential hints of a backstory that you can dig outta it. Hear me out;

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:

How they were lied to and forced into the clothes and into their roles during this event

How uncomfortable, angry and scared they initially all were

How this was more or less rather cruelly making them live through their past trauma (for a party?????) not to mention digging up Satan’s identity issues

How this was essentially brainwashing because the brothers’ personalities did a complete 180 and didn’t even seem to notice it when in reality, we were previously told there weren’t any major personality changes between their time as angels and demons (for example as angels, Lucifer was still arrogant and prideful, Mammon was still a troublemaker, Asmo was still vain and Belphie was still lazy)

It casts a very black and white image on what angels and demons are like when om! has proven countless times before that it isn’t like that.

WHAT I DID LIKE:

So on the surface level this event was messed up, but like what if it was supposed to be messed up? Maybe I’m looking into it too much but this event gives a beautiful view on what the actual angels and celestial realm is like. This event, to me, states three points:

1.     The event itself is meant to be perceived as messed up:

The devs went to the extra trouble of adding scenes where Solomon and Luke are distinctly uncomfortable with what is happening and Solomon even calls the magic used ‘scary’, they didn’t have to waste time doing this if the event was supposed to come off as endearing and lighthearted. It’s also distinct that it’s Solomon saying this given that he’s ancient, has pacts with 72 demons, and the game hints at his meeting with Asmo being similar to Asmodeus and Solomon’s biblical meeting which was messed up and dark af. So I think it’s safe to say whatever he sees as wrong and scary would not be an exaggeration

2.     The Celestial Realm has a set black and white view of what demons and angels are like, and the bangles are supposed to make the wearer act opposite to the Celestial Realm’s view of demons, even if the wearer’s actual personality is not actually like that view

One main storyline hint for this is from lesson 40, where the voice in the light (presumably Michael) says that given how much the brothers like MC he would have expected them to be wicked, EXCEPT while yeah the brothers do heavily show their sins none of them are outright evil?? Like if they are pissed they’d attack but overall in general they’re all just kinda…chill? If anything given their personalities it would make more sense for them to be attracted towards someone who accepts and loves them for who they are than they would be towards someone who was wicked. But Michael just assumed ‘demons = evil so someone they like would also be evil’

The biggest hint at this within the event is MC’s interaction with ‘angelic’ Mammon cause he says a bunch of things that go directly against what has been established so far.

a.)   Mammon apologizes for the way he treats MC EXCEPT he’s being by MC’s side since like a week after meeting them? He makes a pact with them even though he just as easily could have just grabbed Goldie from them given that he’s the fastest. He never steals from them and later actually starts working legit jobs to earn money when he wants to buy them something, which is apparently fairly often. He bandages their wrist even though he told them he wouldn’t go out of his way to help them. He agrees to their stupid plans even though he knows he’ll get in trouble. He goes against and stands up to Lucifer for them despite being scared of Lucifer. He forgives them almost instantly after they lie about Belphie and all of this is just from season 1 cause the man’s even softer for MC in season 2

b.)   Mammon talks about selling his things to provide for human kids EXCEPT this is something he already does? One of the main reasons he’s always in debt is cause the Witches take advantage of him and the fact that through them he’s providing for a homeless orphan human child.  

3.     It paints a picture of the Celestial Realm as a controlling, ‘this and only this is the right way’, ‘we’d do anything for our notion of peace and order’ kind of world and it’s something the game has hinted at before:

The Celestial Realm decided to execute Lilith for loving and healing a human, while the Devildom (Diavolo) just reincarnated her and let her live amongst the humans

While in Celestial Realm the twins and Lilith had to sneak off to the human world while Diavolo straight up just brought two humans to the Devildom so he could bring about peace between the realms

The angels seem to be raised to view the demons as evil without any evidence to support it (Lucifer as an angel refusing to even look at Diavolo, Luke’s whole initial attitude towards demons) while as far as we know demons don’t really do this (Diavolo’s pov of his meeting with angel lucifer, lots of the background demons seem to just view Luke as a cute puppy)

Lucifer’s obsession with needing to follow the rules, needing to bend over backwards for Diavolo, being strict with his brothers, being this calm and collected, perfect always in control being. We learnt in the Celestial Realm that Lucifer was more callous and outspoken, and given that he rebelled against his father and started a war probably had less regard for rules and authority figures. The reason why Lucifer is the way he is in the Devildom could be due to him blaming himself for Lilith’s death because not only did he let her break the rules but he broke them himself which then led to the war

The celestial Realm was willing to do this whole magic bangle with which is highly amoral for a party? That’s like peak control freak, and as someone who is very much 100% a control freak I feel like I have the right to judge

So yeah, overall while I don’t like the actual event I like all its implications and the irony that the event with the angels is one of the darker events

Hated the ending though, I’ve more or less made an outline for a personally more satisfying ending for this event based around the magic ending almost immediately after the last chapter and a lot of hurt/comfort, angst and talking through feelings, their sense of self and their actual life in the celestial realm between all the characters but my work ethic is shit rn so :/

Obviously this is just my interpretation but I’d be more than willing to talk about this with you guys!

I get that it can be frustrating but personally I like it better than them immediately simping for MC? The fact that it took till the end of S1 for the romance to begin (with the exception of Mammon's crush and Asmo's general flirting) is one of the reasons I stuck with OM! for so long

And I don't know much about Mephisto to figure out what his beef with MC is (it just might be beef by proxy cause he doesn't like Lucifer) but I think, given the current storyline, it makes sense for Raphael & Thirteen to dislike MC?

Despite the more or less cold war between the Celestial Realm and Devildom, the Celestial Realm still seems to see the Devildom in the same way they did during actual war. According to Angel! Lucifer even the dirt in the Devildom is not fit to be stood on by an angel. MC's heavily associated with demons because of the pacts. To an angel they'd be worse than the dirt in the Devildom

Though according to Raphael's voice message on OM!'s youtube channel he acknowledges that both he and MC have a negative view of each other due to what they've heard and that they should possibly start on a clean slate

MC broke into her house with one of the people Thirteen hates, unconsciously counteracted all her traps allowing the brothers to break all the rules of her traps, turned a blind eye when Solomon stole from her and then helped Beel cheat death, which is probably a huge breach of contract

Because of you, tumblr keeps advertising ObeyMe! to me. I'm starting to crack under the pressure to play it 😔 Can you at least sum up what I'm gonna be getting myself into? How's the gameplay? I've never played this kind of game before

8D tbf it may have had been doing that regardless apparently people were seeing the ads when it first came out BUT. OKAY SUMMARY TIME.

So, Obey Me!, is not an otome game by traditional standards and, instead, simply follows a storyline with a good amount of romance in it. I believe it was first advertised(and its title in the play store originally referred to it as) an otome game and, instead, it now advertises itself properly as a story and card game.

Obey Me! follows your adventure in a place called The Devildom–essentially Hell, though I believe Hell is a separate part of it between itself and the Human World, I DIGRESS–where you’ve been brought as an exchange student to the Royal Academy of Diavolo, essentially a college for demons.

Mind, you had no awareness or say in this situation, but suck it up because you’re here for a year.

This is Diavolo! You can’t kiss him. Yet. I suspect we will eventually. But he’s basically why you’re here.

Story-wise your job is to develop an immunity to demonic influence and attend your classes(no, you don’t actually get to do so, though there are references to/talk of it) for a year stay in the Devildom. Afterwards, you’ll write a paper about your experience and you’ll be able to go home.

The exchange program is Diavolo’s attempt at starting peaceful and cooperative relations between the three worlds–The Human World, of which you are from, The Devildom, where Diavolo rules over all Demonkind, and the Celestial Realm, populated by angels and ruled over by who I like to call The Celestial Father, but most people just call god.

Don’t worry though! You won’t be thrown into the Devildom without help! After all, demons eat humans and their souls! You are overseen by Mammon, the Avatar of Greed, essentially your sidekick throughout the story. After Lucifer, his older brother and the Avatar of Pride, shoves you off onto the unwilling Mammon, you’re sent to the brothers’s home dorm, The House Of Lamentation, to get settled.

As you can tell by the names and ways I identify them, there are seven brothers and they’re all representative of the Seven Deadly Sins.

In order of oldest to youngest, we have Lucifer, the Avatar of Pride and Diavolo’s right hand man, Mammon, the Avatar of Greed and the one responsible for you here in the Devildom, Leviathan(or just Levi), the Avatar of Envy and a shut-in otaku, Satan, the Avatar of Wrath and the most normal-seeming one, Asmodeus,(or just Asmo) the Avatar of Lust and most charming of the seven(in a sense,) Beelzebub(or just Beel), the Avatar of Gluttony who is just as self-explanatory as Asmo, and Belphegor(everyone calls him Belphie), the Avatar of Sloth and the demon sent to the Human World in exchange for you. Suffice to say…you won’t see him much.

Oddly enough, before you woke up in the Devildom, you heard a boy’s voice begging you to help them. A demon trapped them–and you’re the only one they can rely on to save them, the voice said… .

HERE’S A READMORE BECAUSE IT GETS LONGER.

During your stay with the Seven Rulers of the Underworld(the aforementioned brothers,) you’ll get involved in their many chaotic family affairs, learning about them, making pacts with them, helping them, and romancing them along the way. Kinda.

The romance aspect has little effect on the game thus far aside from the phone calls you get every five intimacy levels. The more otome aspects are mostly in these calls, some of the texts you exchange, and in sidestories on Devilgram(the Devildom version of Instagram, obviously) you unlock by earning certain cards and raising intimacy scores. The main story does have a little bit of it(namely in the form of Mammon), but it mostly focuses on you making pacts with the brothers and helping them with their interfamilial issues and lives.

The story isn’t done and is likely not particularly near being done considering the game came out like two months ago and we get an update, thus far, once a month(but we’ve had a few events in between to keep ourselves entertained and busy with stories!)

NOW THEN ONTO GAMEPLAY… . If you’ve never played a gacha game before it’s basically a cashgrab whaletrap system where you randomly draw, in this case, cards for use in gameplay or collection. You get the best cards through premium pulls(i.e. paying real money but you actually earn the premium currency pretty easily in this game, not to mention you get one free pull of the two main paid gachas every…other day? I set mine so i get one every other day.) But you can get good cards through the regular currency pulls as well as actual gameplay.

You variously strengthen and level up the cards through battles(more below,) as well as drawing the same card multiple times(strengthens their ability), and through the Devil’s Tree, where you can also unlock more chats, calls, backgrounds and music for your home screen, and items. Using grimm(the regular currency) you can level up your cards quickly, and using grimm and items you get through gameplay and to-do “quests�� you can advance spaces in a card’s Devil’s Tree and power them up as well. It’s pretty simple stuff!

So your gameplay is in the form of simple little dance battles in which you summon the demons you’ve pulled from Nightmare(the gacha system) to battle for you. They take care of most of it–all you have to do is collect hearts that pop up on the screen and tap on them when their meters are full to use charged attacks in essence. Very simple and pretty repetitive. There are special abilities in your(and the enemies’s) charged attacks that can add some difficulty beyond simple upscaling(namely if they have paralyze as an ability which makes things very inconvenient.)

These dance battles have a timer of 40 seconds and typically last about a minute tops. So things are pretty quick and easy as far as gameplay goes. You read the story, you make some choices(the story is linear and thus far doesn’t branch based on these decisions and you can also go back and redo the decisions as well as read chats and answer calls to redo decisions for new dialogue and sometimes intimacy points as well), you do some dance battles. That’s basically it.

:D JOBS is how you get money most easily as well as the occasional free affection items and affection boosts. All you have to do is send each of the brothers to work a job(they have favorite jobs as well as thus-far-mostly-secret combinations they can work in that you can watch secret conversations they have at their workplace in) and you’ll be notified when they’re done and you need to pick them up. If you do each job enough you’ll unlock another jobsite with greater profits(and more time between when you need to come get the little shits!)

Oh! But there’s a bit more I forgot to mention! Namely :D JOBS and Surprise Guests!

Surprise Guests come in two forms! The actual surprise kind which will pop up sometimes after a dance battle and the not-surprise kind which come up about twice a day on the home screen!

Oh, I forgot to mention the homescreen too. You can set one of the brothers to stay on the home screen and greet you when you go to it or open the app! The notifications are also voiced by them! If they have a little speech bubble over their head like so, you can engage them as Surprise Guests.

You can also poke them on the home screen and they’ll talk a little! Usually about the other brothers or that you’re touching them.

NOW THEN ONTO SURPRISE GUESTS. AKA THE FUN PART ASIDE FROM THE STORY ITSELF.

As I said, after each dance battle there’s a chance you’ll get a surprise guest–one of the three demons you used in the battle!

From here you can give them food, items, medicine, or whip them--they all have preferences of what they like to be given as well! You can buy these things on Akuzon–which is the Devildom equivalent of Amazon which they clearly only used to avoid copyright, given Amazon is evil already–using premium currency or additional currency called Ravens(which you get through Surprise Guests, collecting cards over 10 times, earn in to-do quests, or get from :D JOBS.)  However you can also get them for free from :D JOBS, to-do quests, and sometimes they’ll send them to players through the mail system.

Alongside material items, you can touch them to praise them for a job well done(or comfort them after a battle you didn’t do perfectly in.)  Demons love being pet apparently!

Do this well, and you’ll get an intimacy boost! The first 5~7 surprise guests you get three hearts for the day will give you gifts–either AP(stamina), grimm(standard currency), or ravens.

You can also get them on the home screen and you get different, more affectionate/romantic dialogue when you do well on home screen affections. I believe these are also influenced by your intimacy score.

You can tap or rub the screen, as well as shake your phone or hit ‘Ignore’ to get a response out of them as well as giving them snacks and items. (They mostly don’t seem to like the phone being shaken or being ignored but I’ve also gotten neutral reactions from both rather than negative ones.) You can interact with their head/hair, face, arms, or chest(i think their hand counts as their arm so in the cases of Lucifer and Satan who always have their hand on their chest, be careful lol.) You can do bad, neutrally, or good in the end. You never lose intimacy points so don’t worry too much if you wanna fuck with em and see their reactions lol you’ll have chances to redeem yourself.

OBEY ME! LESSON 59 DETAILED SUMMARY + DISCUSSION/THEORIES

There’s spoilers for The Arcana down there too in the 6th para…. Don’t ask me how or why it just happened

Asmo greets them in the morning and they have normal breakfast/early morning talk sprinkled in with things like how great the waffle maker is and ‘get a cuppa coffee yourself it’s just a button on the espresso machine’ and ‘remember when Satan thought the Roomba was a vehicle was cats?’. Satan blushes and says he meant it can ALSO be used as a cat vehicle but Levi says they all know that’s BS. Lucifer already looking tired tells Levi to sit down and eat and that Beel’s got whipped cream around his mouth. MC, now power crazy after becoming a legit sorcerer, uses their magic to make a napkin float and wipe Beel’s mouth. Beel blushes and thanks them. Belphie says it’s impressive that they don’t need to recite an incantation to use simpler magic. Mammon comes down half asleep and yawning and nearly trips over the cat’s vehicle when MC uses wordless magic to create a gust of him to pick him up and drop him on the couch. Lucifer praises them for it and Mammon snaps at them to be gentler next time they do something similar. Belphie asks if getting the full seal means anything has changed in MC’s magic and they say they can use more spells in this world now. Mammon says ‘cool just don’t use it to send me flying about again’. Beel asks if they can use summoning magic. Satan says it’s not the type of thing novices can do and even though Solomon will teach it to them now it’ll take a lot of practice. Lucifer tells them to start practicing soon and Asmo remembers the rest of them will be leaving soon (ugh I knew this was coming but I still hate it). Mammon asks if they really have to go back. If they can’t stay here longer and call it a homestay. Beel and Levi agree saying there’s more food/anime events here they want to experience. Lucifer tells them all to quiet down and eat breakfast, MC’s quiet an contemplates having to say goodbye again soon.

In Levi’s room he’s playing Devil Crossing and gushing over it. Asmo says he doesn’t get the game at all and Levi (kinda) explains why it’s so great. Satan asks Crowe to play the theme for “Another Purrrfect Day for Kitties in the Devildom” at max volume. Levi asks if Satan did that to be mean and he says the two of them were being so loud he couldn’t read his book, Levi tells him to go read in his room then. Beel tells Crowe he’s hungry and they say they’ll send a snack recipe to his DDD, Beel says forget snack and to send him one for a huge amount of food. Levi scolds him for ordering crowe around when they belong to him and Asmo says he thinks they should ask Barbatos to connect this house and the HoL together via portals so that they could visit whenever, and that it’d be the best example for friendly relations between their worlds. MC says they don’t know if Diavolo would agree and Levi agrees with them. Belphie says when Diavolo talks about peace and harmony between the three worlds he doesn’t think he means visiting the human world whenever. And Levi agrees with that. Asmo asks what makes them so sure and that they’re no fun at all. Satan says the two angels will probably stay here for longer. Asmo asks why angels et to stay and they don’t. Beel asks why they were sent down to the human world in the first place. Belphie says probably for the same reason they were sent to the Devilom – to learn about the world. Mammon comes to the door asking if MC’s there and they reply, he asks if they all never get sick of gaming (isn’t he the one who has weekly gaming nights with Levi, MC and sometimes Beel?). He tells MC they need to go to the angel’s halo asap cause Lucifer needs to deliver something to Barbatos. Belphie says that Lucifer probably told Mammon to do it and he’s heaping it on MC. Mammon tells him to stay quiet, that he’s busy and MC’s free. They don’t get much of a choice but I like to think they put up some token protest.

On the way they run into Diavolo and ask him where’s headed. He says he’s on the way back from the market. He asks where they’re going and when they reply he says he’ll join them as he’s craving Simeon’s coffee. They tell him that they heard about them all having to head home soon, he says he wants to stay longer but the new term at RAD is starting. He says they don’t need to feel sad though cause as a sorcerer all they need to do is learn summoning magic. He laughs and says that he’s never heard of a sorcerer summoning demons to their side just to hang out though. He says he knows Solomon can be a drill sergeant but he knows MC can do it and to hang in there. MC says that’s cool and all but I want to meet up with you too. He thanks them for saying that and says he feels the same and is sad that they won’t be able to see each other but without a pact between them they can’t summon him. And MC who has bigger balls than I could ever imagine having, whose bluntness gives me anxiety irl says cool so let’s forge a pact (WHEEZEEEE. You can’t just say that!? He’s the ruler of an entire dimension he can’t be under your control you dumbfuck I’m- Pls stop saying the first thing that comes to your mind! That moment in S2 where Diavolo and Solomon were acting all secretive and shady and MC just goes up to Solomon and says I wanna know the secret too still gives me anxiety. Fucking stop have some subtlety pls) And they don’t even ask it as a question? They just say “I’d like to forge a pact with you.” Ugh. I love MC but I could never be them. Diavolo, as expected, is stunned and speechless. He then bursts out laughing and later apologizes for it saying he didn’t mean to laugh and it just took him by surprise cause not even Solomon has had the guts to ask him that (You just know if the demon king was up and active MC’d just walk up to him and demand a pact too). And that he is happy they said that. He then gets serious and says he can’t cause as the future demon king he has his position to think of (Do you think the demon king will ever wake up? Or pass away? I mean Diavolo’s already doing his job I feel like this is something that can’t stay stagnant in the long run. And the demon king waking up would be an interesting storyline cause he’d technically outrank Diavolo but it was Diavolo who called the truce with the Celestial Realm so the last he knew the Devildom was still stuck in a war with the Celestial Realm, Lucifer and his brothers were still angels and humans were probably still on the menu…) Diavolo says though they can’t forge a pact he’ll always be there when they needed him and tells them not to forget that.  They can then hold his hand or put their arm through his. If they hold hands he asks if they can hold hands the rest of the way to the café and if they don’t mind that it feels a bit like a date. If they link arms he blushes and ask if they could slow down a bit cause it’s nice to walk through town together.

Luke and Simeon greet them at the café. Barbatos is surprised to see Diavolo but thanks MC for the delivery. After Simeon brings the coffee he’s told about the start of the new term at RAD. Luke is surprised that Lucifer and the brothers are leaving and asks if this means Diavolo will be going too, Diavolo says that as sad as it is they will have to. Luke looks really sad and says “…oh…” and says he hoped at least he’d be able to stay longer. This initially shocks Diavolo before he says he wishes so too but that in addition to the new term he has lots of personal business to take care of as well. Luke then asks if Barbatos will be leaving too. He says his place is at Diavolo’s side and he must follow him wherever he goes. Luke seems even more upset and doesn’t reply. Simeon says he understands that Luke is upset but if he keeps looking that sad it’ll only make it harder for everyone else. Luke blushes and says he’s not sad and that all he was thinking about was how boring it’d be without all of them around causing trouble. MC asks if the two angels will still be there. Simeon says they will be able to still each other and Luke cheers, Simeon then says it’ll still be sad that they won’t be able to see everyone whenever they want to, Luke blushes and insist he’s not sad. MC suggests throwing a farewell party. Diavolo thinks it’s a great idea and Simeon suggests calling it a ‘till we meet again party’ saying it has a nicer ring to it. (I really really love how far they’ve all come since S1, that they’ve all made this mix and match chaotic friend group and that they’re all really sad that they won’t be able to hang out as a group anymore). Diavolo becomes very excited about doing “the thing”, “the thing?” asks Luke, “ah the thing…” says Barbatos. Simeon’s surprised that Barbatos can actually understand Diavolo and Barbatos says it’s because they’ve known each other for so long. Luke says being a butler is like having superpowers.

On the way home MC runs into Solomon, they ask him where he’s heading, he’s says he’s heading over to the café for a cuppa. He asks if something good happened to them, and then specifies and says he’s not using some sorcerer’s clairvoyance to see that cause their expression is telegraphs it. They tell him about the party and he says it sounds fun. He then tells them he’s been thinking about where they go from here and how to improve as a sorcerer they’ll need training, and he asks what sort of magic they’d like to specialize in, in the future. A.) Summoning magic – he says that makes sense cause it was why they wanted to become his apprentice/a sorcerer in the first place. B.) Healing magic (which MC used once in S2 without even having to be taught after observing Satan doing it just once – given their protective nature I’d think they’d be good at it) – He says that sounds like something they’d want to learn. C.) Badass attack spells (which they used against Diavolo’s kidnapper) – He says he’d be happy to teach them but asks he exactly they’re planning to fight (the way in S1 the answer would have genuinely been Lucifer is so funny to me for some reason). He says as a novice there’s a lot they need to learn about the magical arts and not just the spells but its history and origin in the three worlds. He says in order to master the stronger spells you need to understand its origin and relevant background. And that it might not be a bad idea to go back to RAD to study these things (the way my hopes soared at this, the way I got giddy imagining starting S4 already in the Devildom after MC leaves at the end of S3), then Solomon gets sad saying if they’re around the brothers he’d get to spend less time with them (BRO leave aside your jealousy and do what’s right for your student! If they need to be around 7pretty boys who just so happen to be in love with them, to study then that’s what needs to be done, I have no biases here I swear!) MC says they’ll do whatever he thinks is best (or they can say that he’s special to them and no one else will make them feel what he does). He’s surprised that they’d leave the decision up to him and says he’ll give it more thought and choose what’s best for them. He then hands them a ring. He says it’s a sorcerer’s ring and that cause they have the ring of light protecting them (aka stopping them from going super nova and destroying all three worlds) they don’t technically need another talisman but he wants to give this to them. They thank him (or they ask if it’s okay if they kiss him). He says they ‘re welcome and says that as his student and his apprentice they deserve nothing less and that they’re important to him (wonder if S4 will give insight to his first apprentice). He says there’s still so much he has to teach them and that he’s looking forward to it and that he’s happy to have them at his side.

Even from outside the manor MC can hear Levi and Mammon arguing. Mammon’s apparently got a part-time job in the human world and yesterday for payday and Levi wants his money back (and okay this is a question I’ve always had…where does Levi get his money from?????? As far as ik Mammon’s the only one with a stable part-time job but Levi always seems to have so much money? Not only is he able to spend a lot on akuzon but he always has money to spare for Mammon??? Where the fuck is he getting it from? Also does Diavolo pay Lucifer?) Mammon says he already spent it all and Levi says he wishes he would keel over and die, Mammon tells him to shut up and show his older brother some respect, Mammon tries to run away and Levi summons Lotan right as MC steps inside (Do you think Lotan ever gets tired of being summoned into small cramped spaces for no reason?) Mammon screams and asks why kinda idiot summons a sea monster inside a house, Levi screams at MC to watch out as (guessing by the noise) MC’s swept back outside the house by a tidal wave. In the bathroom, Levi’s sobbing and apologizing to MC, he says he was so pissed at Mammon he lost his cool, MC asks if they should be fighting like that as brothers, and he says they weren’t “fighting” fighting and the way I’ve said this same thing multiple times to my mother as a kid/teenager is…. Levi then says Mammon’s the worst cause he keeps buying things through crowe without asking Levi, he says that no matter how many times he changes his password Mammon keeps guessing it, MC tells him to stop using TSL passwords, he’s surprised that they figured it out as well (I mean…) He suggests they combine a word to make his new password -  something related to a special date or time and they spend more time in the bathroom bouncing words off each other until they come up with the perfect one. Levi blushes and says it feels special to have a password only the two of them know. IF you tell him it’s cause their relationship is special he asks them to keep telling him that he’s different from the others so that he’ll feel less anxious and that he wishes he could stay with them forever and that they could be a family and MC asks if he’s proposing to them and that’s when I screamed HOLY SHIT and noped outta there because HOLY SHIT!!!??? S2 the last two lessons was MC going around collecting special items from the brothers, is S3 gonna be them going around tryinta have a shotgun wedding with one of them so that they don’t have to stay in the human realm??? God MC’s so fucking proactive I could never. Remember early in S2 when MC told Mammon things would be easier if he just admitted to being in love with them!??? It’s the same with The Arcana and Last Legacy MC’s too??? Last Legacy’s MC is such a fucking little shit I actually prefer them over the LIs but the way they’re so forward scared me like YES she’s super pretty but she’s also holding a sword to your throat should you really be flirting with her rn!? And The Arcana’s MC is on a whole other level (specifically in Julian’s route) like this is the second time you’re meeting him why the FUCK are you trying to strip search him on your doorstep in broad daylight WHILE he’s wanted for a murder YOU were hired to investigate!? Or better yet this is just the third time you’re meeting him why the fuck are you pinning him to a wall and pressing your palm into his open wound on the off chance he turns out to be a masochist!?? Actually wait. MC had known Julian for possibly years and worked closely with him for sometime before shit went down and they both lost their memories of each other, but after meeting again even without memories they both realized the other was familiar to them so do you think it’s possible some deep unconscious part of MC that already knew it sparked the strong hunch in MC that Julian was a masochist??? BACK TO OM! MC can also say it’s all in levi’s head (a little too harsh for my taste but whatever) Levi says he’s lost his happy moment - crushed into teeny tiny pieces and that of course he’s the only one that feels like it’s special. He sniffles. (CAN’T WE SAY IT’S SPECIAL IN A FRIEND WAY!?)

In the kitchen Beel is trying to get Belphie to eat celery by offering to juice it and mix it with other stuff so you can’t taste it (I’ve never had celery but someone said it was like water but crunchy which doesn’t sound that bad?) MC asks what they’re up to, they’re using the juicer to make juice and are trying to decide what to add to it. Belphie says they’re making fresh fruit juice and want something a little extra and ask MC what they think should be added. “Celery,” says MC. Because they’re a shithead and I like to think this is revenge for that one time in S1…y’know what I’m talking about. Beel likes the juice, Belphie says he cans still taste the celery >:) Despite only making juice the kitchen’s an absolute mess and they’re all about to clean it before Lucifer sees when Belphie hears the ice cream truck. Belphie says he’s never bought anything from the ice cream truck before and Beel says he can go check it out and when Belphie brings up cleaning the kitchen Beel volunteers MC and himself to do it (y’know MC should really start putting their foot down) Once Belphie runs after the truck Beel says that Belphie being unable to stop himself from checking out something fun has never changed. Beel asks if they want the remaining fruit. They can ask him to feed it to them or say he can have it. After the second option he eats it before they can even get their whole answer out. He then gets sad about how after he leaves they won’t be able to do stuff like this again. He asks if there’s something they can do so that they can stay this way together. (MC can ask to take their relationship to the next level) MC says they can be made part of the family leaving whatever that means up to Beel’s interpretation (watch Beel go up to Lucifer and ask him to sign the adoption papers of a fully grown adult human being). He agrees that this could work and says while he already thinks of them as family that alone wouldn’t be enough to make it official. And says they should ask Belphie and that together the three of them will have to think of something. He says eventually they’ll think of a good way to keep them all together forever. He then tells them he’ll put the dirty towels in the laundry room and that he’ll catch up with them and Belphie later.

Outside Belphie hands them one of three ice creams and says they should head to the pool, they ask about Beel and Belphie says he’ll just follow the smell of ice cream (does ice cream have a smell? Like even a faint one? I mean it must right?) Belphie says that the twins also have a way of always knowing where the other is because they know each other the best, he says though it’s fainter he’s also sort of able to tell where the other 5 are and what they’re doing. And recently it’s become the same with MC as it is with the others. MC asks if it’s because they’re all family. He laughs and says that’s probably it. Before amending it and saying he’s sure that’s the reason. Belphie says that the brothers – Specially Mammon and after Belphie pauses to give it some thought, Asmo – would be thrilled about MC officially becoming family. MC – cheeky lil shit that they are – asks if only his brothers would be happy. He tells them of course he’d be happy and he asks them if they want a bite of his ice cream (they can ask to be fed it), they tell him no, it’s okay. He asks if they don’t like the flavour and then Beel shows up. Belphie says, “see when you’re family, you just know.” And When Beel asks what they’re talking about he smiles and says nothing.

So that’s the semi last lesson and then we’re done and each time they have to get separated again I feel so emotional but this time I feel like S3 really set up S4 with all this talk about the angels and Lucifer and Simeon’s worst fear and Simeon’s backstory and Simeon and Luke’s purpose in the human world, and possibly Solomon’s backstory too and maybe even Barbatos and just ugh I’m so excited for season 4 and the last lesson of S3 hasn’t even been released yet???

Season 3 Review

As always, these are my opinions. I am fine with criticism, but I’m usually disinclined towards changing my views. Like most opinionated people.

As with most things covered in this blog, spoilers ahead. Don’t read it if you don’t like ‘em.

My read on the seasons thus far:

Season 1 = Main cast introductions, bonding alongside pact-collecting, a speck o’ family drama for good measure

Season 2 = More romance/main cast character development, establishing MC’s power and place in the universe, a tiny bit of side character bonding

Season 3 = More side cast development, relationship mending (and bonding) as part of the trials, greater side character development

Each has their strengths and weaknesses, and which how you rank them is likely dependent on what you want more of in your story.

The Good

Side cast simps got some good food this season. It makes sense since this is the season they’re introduced as dateables.

Diavolo got closer to MC and the brothers, we got some insight into Simeon’s conflicts with the Celestial Realm and his past, and it’s clear Luke has been sheltered from the truth behind the Great Celestial War, and he’s struggling with trying to reconcile Michael’s lingering feelings towards the brothers with his role in casting them out of the Celestial Realm. Everything on this front was very well done, especially when the side cast still needs to compete with the brothers at nabbing attention. The writers did a lot with the time they gave them.

The characters acted consistent with their goals and personalities: most of my problems with the writing revolve around storyline decisions more than anything else. I think some of the characters are remain pretty static (half of the brothers, really) but that comes with the chosen story structure. It’s a juggling act: not everyone is going to get the same amount of growth each season.

Overall, in spite of all the quibbling I’ve done in my analysis posts, this season treated the characters well -- and that helps a lot with the overall enjoyment, imo. It helps that most of the side cast characters are just conceptually very interesting because they have origin stories that are separate from the main cast.

The Bad

I’ll just say it outright: the strength of the game’s writing lies in its characters and their relationship dynamics, not it’s plot structure, cohesion, or pacing. If you get bored of the skin deep harem romance, and you’re not interested in learning about the characters beyond how they present themselves to MC, it’d probably get dull pretty fast. Their decision to stick to the harem format means they’ll be feeding character development to us in tiny pieces, because most of the time is going to be focused on cramming in romantic bits with every character on the cast.

Routes aren’t going to be a thing. That itch is supposed to be remedied by the Devilgrams -- however short and unfulfilling they can be.

That means I have to temper my expectations and resign myself to the fact that not all plot threads are going to tied up as quickly nor as neatly as I want them to. I AM PREPARED FOR THAT.

... But c’mon, the devs are mean. They don’t make any promises, but they sure do like to tease. :(

This is different from my complaints about the last season because in season 2 it was just the conclusions being less exciting than anticipated. They just don’t bother at all in season 3. Sometimes it feels deliberate.

My guess is they’re be hiding details behind the curtain and intend to reveal the significance of them later, but I’m not sure if every reader has the attention/memory span to appreciate it. It might just leave them confused if a subplot hinted back a season earlier is finally revealed and resolved. I think it might be smarter to solve problems in the same season they’re introduced in, or if they have no real intention on having it be a problem to solve, not introduce it at all. We’ll see, I guess.

Diavolo refusing to marry MC to anyone for the sake of continued world peace doesn’t really make any sense because as far as we know humans are allowed to marry whomever they choose -- they don’t have to answer to any king or higher power. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the Celestial Realm don’t know who MC even is, and even if they did, why would that matter? Do they forbid humans from marrying demons? If that’s the case why would the Great Witch Maddi pursue Diavolo so hard, then? She’s a Devilgram-only character but they do mention her in the chats.

It’s implied that MC is some kind of weird human-angel hybrid but they’re still not an angel lol. It feels like a lazy, ham-fisted way to introduce the notion but have an excuse to put off the decision until the last season. Maybe they’ll clarify it better later, but right now it gets a thumbs down for me.

The finale wasn’t very good. Not fond of falling back on Levi’s malfunctioning tech for the final act of the season, especially when they introduced plenty of other more interesting things they could have used. Making Mammon’s and Levi’s greatest fear be Lucifer was dumb and I’m not sure I even buy it. Belphie’s and Beel’s were okay and believable. Satan’s greatest fear was just confronting his insecurities regarding Lucifer for the third time (is this going to be a recurring arc for him?). They once again spared Lucifer from being put in a vulnerable position by having the bogeyman target Simeon instead, even though that revelation was pretty interesting as far as Simeon’s development goes. It felt very lazy.

Anyway, tl;dr, STOP BEING TEASES YOU TAKE ENOUGH OF OUR MONEY TO MAKE THE STORY AS GOOD AS IT CLEARLY CAN BE

The Future?

I've already revealed which direction the story is going to take (or not take) in my recent asks here and here. If this season has taught us anything, it’s to take my words/predictions with a grain of salt. 

It doesn’t mean I intend to stop setting my expectations high, or speculating on what’s going to happen next, but rest assured that every time you’re proven wrong -- that I’m probably just as wrong and I spent a lot more time writing out just how wrong I am lol

Sometimes, I’m glad I’m wrong. I thought Michael was gonna show up much later than season 4, initially! Raphael was nowhere on my radar.

The lack of a Michael reveal in the S3 finale hurt but I’m content to wait for S4 for that. I’m a little surprised he didn’t chime in again after the conversation we had with him in the beginning of the season. Surely he has some thoughts regarding all the things he’s been seeing as he’s watched us? I look forward to our official introduction: he’s totally going to act overfamiliar with MC and confuse absolutely everyone because he didn’t take the time to actually introduce himself to us.

I’m surprised a lot of fans are still convinced he’s gonna be a bad guy. I think some of y’all need to stop reading too far into the fanfiction you enjoy. He’s going to be a deuteragonist at worst, and there’s no chance of him remaining in that position if they intend to make him a dateable. 

Remember when they made a guy who murdered us and dragged our corpse into another room so he can traumatize the rest of his family redeem himself and become an appealing love interest in a span of like three lessons? I do!

Raphael’s probably gonna be fine, too. I know they were leaning really hard into the angel bully angle throughout that season, but I can’t count how many times my seductive aura has charmed the insulting tsundere into loving me. They even do that in Obey Me! with Mammon, who was an arrogant prick at the very beginning. He’s considered the favorite love interest of the fanbase now.

I think if there’s a Big Bad (there hasn’t been any big bads in any season thus far -- Obey Me! plots don’t seem keen on functioning that way), it’ll be Father and it’ll happen in the last season. They haven’t bothered softening him up at all, but perhaps they’ll even do that with him. I really have no idea.

So Michael and Raphael will ultimately be goods, Father might be bad but it’s a big might, and we should probably stop looking for traditional villains everyone needs to hate and will need to fight to save the day. So far, it has not been that kind of story. I don’t think it’ll turn into that, either.

We’re going to finally learn about the Celestial Realm. You don’t know how many questions I have about them and how their society functions. I don’t expect all of my questions to be answered, but more answers are always a good thing. We’ll get to see just how hard Diavolo’s goal will be to achieve.

Conclusion

I’d say Season 3 is better than Season 2 overall, but Season 2′s finale and send off was better than Season 3′s.

Season 1 is better narratively than both, probably, but it has the advantage of everything being new and having the revelations hit harder as a result, so it almost feels unfair to compare it to the others. I think many “firsts” have this advantage over subsequent sequels.

Regardless of everything else I’ve said, it’ll be interesting. Just maybe not quite as interesting as we imagine it to be.

I’ll be covering Season 4 on this blog, naturally, and I’ve settled on how I’m formatting things now. There won’t be any more huge summary/commentary posts -- plenty of other blogs do those, and do them better -- and I’ll be focusing on analysis/speculation instead. Hopefully we’ll be given enough wait time for me to catch up on the hard lessons and cover those, too, but I can’t really make that promise as much as I’d like to.

Hii! I'm sorry this took like a week BUT as an apology/compensation I wrote a lil' something based off this lesson :D   ;

Familiar Strangers

Mammon gets a little more time with the strange angel his little brothers picked up and picks up a few things of his own.

ok ok so this lesson holy shit??? This is probably one of my favourite lessons!? It just gives so much and ahhh it was so good! It gives more angel backstory and lore, shows what got Levi into anime in the first place and answers the question I asked in the previous lesson summary; about why Mammon made a pact with MC in the first place when he said in lesson 43 that he wouldn't make a pact with a random human. And look i'm too excited to wait to reveal this in the end (plus with the way om lessons are structured there won't be a big reveal, just a gradual realisation) so im gonna reveal it here immediately.

LESSON 44 SPOILERS

MC once again fucked up the timeline :')

MC's the one who got Levi into anime in the first place. (but the only reason they got him into anime was cause they already knew he liked anime but he liked anime only because they got him into it and so on and so on, one whole horrid circle)

A time paradox was already in play at the very beginning of S1, meaning MC's first meeting with the brothers was never in S1 but instead thousand of years before the main storyline even began. Meaning MC was never a random human and holy shit???????

I'll talk more about MC and Mammon's pact after I summarise everything, as well as about their sins and their lives in the Celestial Realm Vs the Devildom cause everything is blowing my mind . Additionally, even though Mammon shares more or less equal screentime with his brothers in this lesson it adds a ton of character depth to him and i adore it.

Ok so the lesson starts with;

Mammon, Beel, Satan & MC bursting into Asmo's room. Mammon yelling about how he's gonna kill Asmo cause of the leak, only to find his room empty. They check his bathroom (which in my humble opinion is the first place they should have checked, but then again this is asmo so maybe they wanted to keep that as the worst case scenario option), MC says they should turn the water off immediately and mammon confirms that yeah if lucifer is actually still alive and finds out about this all of them will be murdered on the spot. They find Asmo passed out in the bathroom. MC uses the healing spell they learn back in s2 to take away some of his pain. All 3 brothers seem very worried and when Beel asks Asmo if he's okay, he says that he's not but that MC kissing him may make him better (my man's on his death bed and still tryna smash, an absolute icon). Mammon immediately tells Asmo to go die, and Beel says he shouldn't have worried about Asmo cause it was a waste of energy. and look that instant turnabout is peak comedy :'). Asmo calls them out on being assholes and that he does still feel dizzy and Satan says that if he's able to joke about he's fine. Asmo says that he still wants to sleep it off and that he wants MC with him. Satan once again proving that he's the best brother says that him and Mammon will go make soup, Beel will clean the bathroom and that MC can take Asmo to bed. Asmo gushes about how good Satan is and Satan blushes (a year ago this sentence would have been so messed up wtf happened). in bed MC ends up telling Asmo all about their day and Asmo gets sad about not being able to go to the cafe, MC complains about Simeon being a sadist who put them to work (or they can invite Asmo to come the next time) and Asmo says he's jealous that he wasn't there to see them all suffer. Asmo says that while he was asleep he had a dream that he was still an angel and that it's been so long since he's seen Michael who was stunningly beautiful and who was gushing about lucifer, and that he was glad he didn't run into raphael cause he scared him. MC falls asleep while Asmo talks.

MC is woken up in a bright forest by angel Asmo, who asks them what they were doing sleeping in a place like that and says he has never seen MC before. MC can ask him what he's doing dressed like an angel or can ask him if he's actually asmo. He basically says either i've always looked like this unless you're talking about my nails which i painted a different colour or duh obviously you know who i am, who doesn't. He then asks MC who they are. They can ask him if he has forgotten them or if he's kidding. He says either that if they'd met before he wouldn't have forgotten them or that he always means what he says even if people think he's kidding and then asks for their name. MC can ask if they are dreaming - Asmo takes it as them flirting with him/using a cheesy pickup line which he thinks is adorable - or they can ask where they are - the celestial realm. Asmo asks them if they work for Raphael cause Asmo had snuck into the human world to go to 'something called a party' which he had never been to before and that he'd had a lot of fun. But that raphael says 'it's a wicked and immoral thing'. He then asks MC what they think. MC gets to either say that it's up to him to decide or to agree with raphael. If you choose the first option Asmo is suprised, and then says that since it was so much fun it'd be a tragedy never to experience it again and that he thinks he should be allowed to have fun. Asmo had found MC while he was hiding from Raphael who was pissed about the party. Asmo goes to propose something to MC but gets cockblocked by Beel. Asmo asks beel if he could open the celestial realm gates, beel says no and then asks who the fuck MC is. Asmo introduces Beel as a cherubim and a guardian of the gates of the Celestial Realm. And says that Beel is a very famous angel, and that there's a rumour that lucifer recommended Beel to be promoted to seraphim. Beel says that lucifer hasn't mentioned it to him and that it's just a rumour. Beel asks MC if they are okay and if Asmo has tried anything on them cause Asmo hits on anything that moves. Asmo gets pissed and says that it's not that he'd happily sleep with anyone but that he cares about who they are and that he feels love towards everyone he meets. And that the reason everyone loves him so much is cause he loves everyone due to his ability to see the good in people. Beel changes the subject by telling MC they look hungry and offers them a few sweets he got from Michael. MC basically goes wtf why aren't you eating them. He says he's not hungry and that he has eaten too much recently and gained weight and is now on a diet. MC probably looks like they had a stroke cause Beel asks if they are okay. MC tells him that they like the fact that he eats a lot. Beel blushes before asking Asmo if that's a compliment and if he's supposed to thank MC. Asmo who's pissed off snaps at beel about MC and Beel flirting while ignoring him. Beel says he came here looking for belphie.

Beel proceeds to shake a tree until Belphie falls out... Belphie takes one look at MC and asks what the fuck a human is doing in the celestial realm (i forgot that this was back when he still liked humans and thought we were back to square one and he was about to start throwing hands). MC can say 'You think I lool like a human?' vs "Excuse me? What are YOU doing here?'. for the second option Belphie just says screw you I asked first. For the first he's confused that they are not, Asmo saves MC's ass either by telling Belphie to go get his eyes checked while Beel says MC's an angel. Belphie says he does detect angelic vibes from MC (Lilith's bloodline???) but also something humanlike. Asmo says Belphie probably senses that cause all he ever thinks about are humans and Belphie says it's cause humans are interesting and wishes he was born as a human. Asmo yells at Belphie not to say things like that cause if Raphael finds out they'd be in trouble. Beel asks what they are gonna do about their new lost angel and Asmo asks if they can keep MC. Belphie says no cause they're supposed to bring lost angels to Lucifer (how often do angels get lost????). MC gets to choose whether they want to go with Beel, Belphie or Asmo to find lucifer. I chose Beel cause he was anyway going back to Lucifer with Belphie (⚡⚡Efficiency🌟🌟) which is when belphie finds out lucifer's looking for him cause he skipped a meeting. '???' cuts in with a "Mmhm, I THOUGHT I heard some awfully familiar voices..." it turns out to be Mammon who's been looking for all of them (minus MC for a change and isn't that the weirdest thing to happen in all this).

Asmo scolds Mammon for scaring him and tells him not to appear outta thin air like that (that's such a 'Lucifer Trait' tho that i don't think we've seen from Mammon before?) - Mammon says he'll do what he wants. He then asks if MC is Asmo's 'newest plaything'. Asmo says no but can you imagine tho😍 After Belphie and Beel introduce MC as a lost angel, Mammon sounds oddly skeptical and says he's never heard of an "MC" before. Beel introduces Mammon as a throne who acts as Lucifer's assistant. He says that Mammon can be trusted cause outta all the thrones he's Lucifer's most trusted. Asmo says that Mammon used to be a troublemaker and that Michael hadn't known what to do with him but that he's grown into someone who, more than anyone else in the Celestial Realm, can do anything he puts his mind in to. Mammon says he doesn't like the way Asmo introduced him and Belphie says it's true though cause they all thought Mammon was just a step away from being cast out (fdshgfwdygds explains why Lucifer worries so much over Mammon in the present cause he's gone back to being a troublemaker). MC can ask about 1.) the being cast out thing - Mammon says the others are exaggerating even though things have changed. 2.) being a throne - blushing Mammon says that he was an archangel and that Lucifer recommended him as a throne. 3.)question him about being able to do anything - he snaps at them for looking disbelieving and says he's talented.  Belphie says mammon used to be awful and ngl these made me laugh - mammon brought back pigeon feathers from the human world and tried to sell them to the lower rank angels by telling them they were Raphael's feathers, he also ordered around the army of angels for fun and said he was playing angel chess. Mammon says they were just innocent pranks and were no big deal and MC ever the enabler agrees with him. Mammon says it seems like MC's actually got some sense and says he likes them and that they're cool. Mammon then stutters and asks MC why they're staring at him 'like that' and imagine the amount of shit going through MC's head at seeing Mammon like this? From all the brothers he's arguably the one they're closest with (even if it's not in a romantic sense) so seeing him in a world where he's respected by his brothers and has this kinda calm confidence that he doesn't have as a demon, imagining what must have happened between then and the present for things to change the way they have, finding out he's still a troublemaker, still wholly Mammon, and just has to squash down those urges here, remembering all the times the more responsible side of him came out as a demon and getting to see a version of himself where that side is more prominent. Seeing him so easily say that he likes them without any of the protests he had as a demon. Realising that Mammon's more 'tsundere' characteristics are all a defense mechanism to protect himself from opening up and being hurt and that in the present after realising they genuinely care about him he starts dropping them. realising that as both an angel and a demon he took a look at them and thought 'this one, i like.' Just!??? Ah. :). Anyway back to the chapter- He starts blushing and tells them to stop staring. Belphie asks Mammon if he wants to be like Lucifer, blushing Mammon asks so what if he does. Belphie says that's never gonna happen so he should give up while he's ahead (made me wanna punch him) and that Mammon is not Lucifer and is instead Mammon and that he can't become something he's not (made me wanna hug him). Mammon tells Belphie to shut up and asks why he cares anyway and that with enough time one day he might do it and that he doesn't care what belphie says and that they should just watch him. and isn't it sad that Mammon will never get that time, and yeah it's a good thing that now as a demon he's just being Mammon without trying to be lucifer but he was never given the time to figure that out for himself and it explains all the issues/complexes Mammon has regarding Lucifer and shit imagine losing MC to the man he respects and loves but who he will always see himself as second best to and who he was always trying to reach, the man he believed he could have become until the fall and until he gave up and let his sin and his more real self takeover?? Since Mammon never had the time to realise that it's better to be yourself than someone else if MC ends up choosing Lucifer he'll always have that 'what if' in the back of his head and that shit hurts dude. MC can then say something about them all really loving Lucifer, Mammon blushes and stutters and said that nobody said anything about loving lucifer. Beel, Belphie and Asmo all say they love Luicfer (but not his lectures). Mammon growls and says he hates them and Asmo calls him out on being really obvious about loving lucifer as well, Mammon blushing says he doesn't. Or they can tell Mammon they're rooting for him. He's suprised and then stutters and blushes and asks if they really will. Then still blushing and stuttering he tells MC to stop staring at him like that again. MC's such a pining idiot i can't handle it.  Beel changes the subject and asks why Mammon was looking for them. Lucifer had sent Mammon to find the twins cause Beel never returned with Belphie. He also tells Asmo that Raphael was walking around with his spear looking for him. He then calls them to head to the Celestial Palace. Asmo says that if the Seraphim find out about MC it'll make things worse and who knows what they'll do to all of them. They decide they should hide MC someplace.

Inside the palace Mammon yells at MC to stop looking at everything with wide eyes (did this happen before? when he was showing them around the devildom during the first lesson? I can't remember but my love for parallels is praying it did) cause they're already sticking out by being a bunch of high ranking angels gathered together. Asmo tells Mammon he needs to be nicer. He says that there's no reason to worry cause Lucifer and the others are on the higher floors. Belphie says that this makes it the perfect spot to hide when they wanna skip work. MC says that even angels need a break sometimes. Asmo says the seraphim are bossy and never cut them any slack. Beel asks MC if they are close to any other angels. If MC says Luke no one knows who that is cause the baby hasn't been born yet🥺. If MC says Simeon, Belphie's surprised and Beel says that outta all the Seraphim Simeon's the most easygoing. AND holy shit??? During the last lesson Simeon said he was an archangel which means that he was demoted at some point?????? And considering how close he was with Lucifer and possibly the others as well,,,,,,,,,,could it be possible that he was demoted after the fall? That though he didn't come with them he helped them escape in someway? or looked aside while they escaped? or knew about Lilith and her human? Or knew Lucifer was becoming more disillusioned? Belphie says it's not that Simeon's easygoing but rather that the others are too intense. Mammon asks if they should hand MC over to Simeon and Asmo says another Seraphim would spot them before they reached him. They stop outside their secret room aka the slacking off room. When the door is opened MC and possibly Beel get drenched in water while Belphie, Asmo and possibly Mammon manage to jump away. "???" says that to get entry they need to say the secret phrase.

belphie asks if they really need a secret phrase and levi says they never know when the seraphim will show up, mammon says that if they do show up a secret phrase wouldn't stop them from coming inside. Levi says whatever and asks who MC is. Asmo scolds him for the way he worded the question but still introduces MC. Levi suspects that MC is one of Michael's agents who was sent to verify that levi is 'as much of an useless waste of space as I seem to be'. MC snaps 'That's not true!' and Levi is startled and blushes. And Mammon, holy shit Mammon says what in my humble opinion is one of the funniest lines in the series,: "That's right, Levi. It's not true. I mean, just look at MC's face... See that absentminded stare... like there's nothin' going on upstairs? Does that look like the face of one of Michael's agents? I don't think so." WHY did he have to come for MC so hard!???? this came literally outta nowhere and it made me laugh so hard??? Worst of all? it made me realise a horrid horrid truth; Mammon considers himself a morosexual I'm in tears???? Levi says it's better to be absentminded than to be a waste of space. Belphie says that Levi commanded Lotan and the army of angels in the war against the demons and was basically their general. Beel says that now that the Celestial Realm is at peace Levi feels like he has no purpose. Asmo says that someone from the younger generation took over the Devildom which is why the war ended, though Mammon says the transition isn't official yet. Levi tells them to shut up and Mammon tells him that sitting around being grumpy wouldn't do anything and that he should at least enjoy them being at peace. Levi says that he doesn't wanna hear that crap from Mammon cause Mammon being Lucifer's favourite means he can be an airhead and still have his future secured, while levi would be a dead weight, a leach and a burden to the entire realm without a war to fight (and i mean a lot of what levi said is pretty messed up but Mammon did get promoted from a warrior to Lucifer's right hand possibly after the war was over? while Levi's still a general in a realm at peace). When mammon gets pissed off at Levi's comment the others say that considering this isn't the first time that levi got into one of these moods mammon should just ignore him. Levi immediately latches onto that and says that they shouldn't interact with an useless bore of an angel like him cause it's just a waste of time. MC suggests that Levi find something else he can be passionate about and he says that there's nothing else for him. MC can recommend either anime or manga.  since he doesn't know what these are MC then explains it to him in detail. he's interested but doesn't think a boring angel like him could actually get interested in anything like that (oh baby...). Belphie and Asmo are surprised that MC seems to know so much about the human culture when even Belphie doesn't know this much. '???' voice finds them and says it's interesting how much free time they seem to have. Kinda sad to find out that Levi got into anime cause he needed something to make him feel less useless in the aftermath of a war...

The brothers all freak out about being found by lucifer, who yells at Mammon for not bringing the twins to him and at Beel for not bringing Belphie and then at Belphie for oversleeping and missing the meeting and at Asmo, who he says should take care of the situation before he finds himself at 'the pointy end of Raphael's spear. do you think the Seraphim have divisions that they each head? Lucifer doesn't seem inclined to punish Asmo for breaking the rules like he would have in the Devildom and rather lets Raphael take care of it. Mammon trained under Michael before he met Lucifer - so when he was an archangel. And now as an archangel Simeon works for Michael. It's implied previously in this lesson that Lucifer had other thrones working for him. So? Lucifer then asks who MC is. MC says 'I know you' which makes Lucifer's affection meter go up but he says duh obviously you know me, everyone does (and I mean this in the most affectionate way possible but like what a fucking asshole). Asmo introduces MC as a lost angel and says they were planning to find Lucifer. Lucifer asks if they decided to hide MC cause they were scared the other seraphim would find out and this brings up so many questions - How mean exactly are the other seraphim? We know that the brothers are scared of Lucifer but comparatively Asmo's terrified of Raphael and Mammon of Michael. What exactly would the others do to a lost angel? Ik they said simeon was the most easygoing but is it possible Lucifer's the nicest? I mean he did adopt 6 oddball angels, he seems to be trying to help them rise through the ranks, he seems to deal with lost angels regularly, he knows about their slacking off room and hasn't told the others (to be fair tho if anyone needs a slacking off room it's lucifer), they trusted him not to get mad about their room and about the weird 'angel' they found... Mammon changes the subject by asking Lucifer if he was supposed to be heading down to the devildom, when Levi asks why he'd go there, Lucifer says the price is asking to meet with him. Lucifer's says he doesn't like going but that it's his job and that he doesn't have a choice. with the free 50 pulls I got the devilgram about this first meeting and holy shit?? Lucifer was such a bitch and Diavolo STILL took one look at him decided 'damn I'm gonna love this man'?????????? Also the prejudice the angels have against the demons is just??? Lucifer was surprised that education was a thing in the devildom????? The fact that diavolo wanted not just peace but to build a bridge between the three realms and lucifer didn't believe him cause 1.) ew demons are evil but more importantly 2.) 'if that was possible why hasn't my father tried to achieve that?' - just them showing lucifer slowly starting to question everything he was brought up with and his father who looked up to and practically hero-worshipped?? The symbolism of Lucifer finding the devildom clothes he was provided with more comfortable than his angel's armour? Lucifer warming up to diavolo in the end and i dunno guys it was such a good devilgram. i also got the devilgram where lucifer gets jealous of Barbatos, sulks about it, then whines to MC and finally tries to bake cookies for Diavolo... it's not significant to anything i just needed to say that out loud. Back to the main storyline; MC can ask him whether he doesn't like demons or whether he doesn't want to go the devildom. his answer to both is basically 'ew of course not'. He then tells MC he'll ask Michael to help them. MC tells him to have fun with Diavolo and to be friendly. Lucifer is shocked cause it almost sounds like MC knows Diavolo, and he says they're odd cause he feels like even though he just met them it doesn't really feel like that. Asmo agrees and says when he talks to MC it feels like he's talking to someone very dear to him. Mammon's surprised it's not just him who feels that. Belphie says it's a mysterious feeling and Beel says maybe they've all met somewhere before. Levi says maybe MC reminds them of someone they know. Belphie says: "Hey, wait a second. Does MC remind you of Li-" He's cut off by the whole screen going white and '???' saying 'oh dear, what a mess...'

The voice laments about how often Solomon messes shit up, and asks how he could possibly create food that has odd effects on both humans and demons, and that it can't even be classified as food anymore and should be considered a magic potion. They say that Solomon doing these kinda shit without even realising is the worst part. The voice says that MC's consciousness was sent to the past through their dreams cause of Solomon's cooking and that solomon had created an immortality elixir by accident too once. the voice says that despite being a decent human with a good head on his shoulders Solomon can sometimes be more troublesome than the demons cause despite the way he acts he doesn't actually understand his own power. The voice says they'll send MC back home and that they'll forget everything that happened but the effect they had on the brothers as angels will carry on to the future and that in order to ensure the effect doesn't have negative consequences someday the voice will keep an eye on MC from now on. And that the voice will have to think about Simeon as well. They say goodbye until they meet MC again. MC wakes up next to a sleeping Asmo in his bed. When Beel tells them they're finally done cleaning up the bathroom MC tells him they had a wack dream but that they can't remember what it was, Beel says maybe it's something they're better off forgetting. There's a locked chapter that i can't open :')

The lessons over but I've got notes so hear me out!

1. ) The paradox of Mammon and MC's pact- in the previous lesson Mammon said he doesn't make pacts with random humans except as far as we knew then MC was a random human when he made the pact with them. Mammon being the fastest of the brothers also means he could have easily gotten Goldie back without making the pact. This lesson reveals that MC was never a random human and that they'd met thousands of years prior to their 'first meeting' and though neither Mammon nor MC would have remembered that meeting the effect of it would have still carried on. The effect of MC supporting Mammon's schemes and his dreams, the effect of him being flustered by them, of them staring at him in a way that made him blush, of him deciding he liked them, of him feeling like he already knew them and being able to comfortably tease them. And it's probably all of this that led Mammon to make a pact with them. Except MC was stared at him and supported him as an angel cause they already knew him and cared about him as an angel cause they had a pact together and were friends. tldr; the only reason Mammon made a pact with MC was cause they were familiar to him, the only reason they were familiar to him was cause they were nice to him when he was angel, and the only reason they were nice to him as an angel was cause they already had a pact with him and were friends and so on and so on.

2. ) They have so much freedom in the Devildom holy shit??? They went from having a council of scary vaguely sadistic control freaks to just one. They can do whatever they want without any real consequences while in the Celestial Realm a party was seen as something evil? None of them have any real duties in the devildom while they were so busy in the celestial realm they needed a secret room to slack off

3. ) the seraphim seem so much more controlling than diavolo? I mean the man takes any excuse to throw a party and is currently whining about not being allowed to go the human world. While in the celestial realm just talking about wanting to be human is a punishable offence. And yeah sure you could say that I'm comparing the past celestial realm vs the current devildom and that the current celestial realm has probably eased up a lot EXCEPT 01.) in the devilgram with Lucifer's and Diavolo's first meeting Diavolo seems exactly the same as he currently is. 02.) Luke - who is a fairly new angel- 's attitude when he first arrives in the devildom is scarily similar to Lucifer's attitude in the devilgram where he first meets Diavolo 03.) the angel event proves that the Celestial Realm still has a set view on what angels should be like and that the brothers never fit this view

4.) Forming of their sins - the brothers were definitely the odd ones out in the celestial realm even if they were pretty famous and they all had less intense versions of their sins even back then. MC who knows them for only their sins, reinforced them when they were angels which probably led to them embracing these sins more, which would have helped with their fall and with fully developing their sins

5. ) I feel like we might actually get to see michael???? They've been dragging and teasing about finally meeting him for so long.

Stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze is the son of Barton Blaze and Naomi Kale. He spent his early years in the Quentin Carnival where his parents starred in a stunt show with Craig "Crash" Simpson. Johnny's mother walked out on Barton and Johnny and took the family's remaining two children, Barbara and Danny, with her.

Losing his mother caused Johnny to repress many of his memories of her and his siblings. When his father died in a stunt, Johnny was adopted by Crash and Mona Simpson. The Simpsons helped Johnny by fabricating his past with the hope that it would be less painful than the truth. Now believing that his real mother was Clara Blaze, who had died, Johnny became an enthusiastic member of the Simpson clan, growing closer to their daughter, Roxanne. The two soon became inseparable and, as they grew older, their fondness for one another moved beyond familial.

Blaze would eventually join the Simpsons in their own traveling stunt show, the Crash Simpson Stunt Cycle Extravaganza. Crash had become a father figure for Blaze and, on learning of Crash's life-threatening cancer, Blaze turned to the occult. His studies led him to a spell which supposedly could summon Satan himself. Johnny was unaware that he had, in fact, summoned Mephisto. Desperate to save Crash, Blaze sold his soul to Mephisto in return for Crash's cancer to be cured.[24]

Crash Simpson's cancer was cured, but he was subsequently killed in a stunt trying to jump over 22 cars. Mephisto, when confronted by Blaze over Crash's death, declared that he had kept his end of the bargain. Johnny's exact words in the bargain had been for Crash to be spared the cancer which was killing him, not for him to live. Blaze was saved by Roxanne when she proclaimed her love for Blaze, driving Mephisto away with the purity of her emotion.[24]

Blaze was unaware that Mephisto had bonded him with the demon Zarathos as an act of revenge, and was transformed into a Ghost Rider, a leather-clad skeleton with a flaming head. While Johnny still had his soul, he was forced to punish the wicked and evil upon Mephisto's demands whenever needed.[24] Whenever he was in the presence of evil he would transform into the Ghost Rider, to exact the devil's revenge, returning the evil to Hell. Blaze was not completely lost in the transformation however, and would also help the innocent when they were in danger.[25]

As the Ghost Rider, he encountered Daimon Hellstrom.[26] Johnny later came to work as a movie stuntman for Delazny Studios.[27] As the Ghost Rider, he became a member of the Champions[28] and met Morbius the Living Vampire, the Man-Thing and the Werewolf by Night.[29] He lost a motorcycle stunt riding championship to Flagg Fargo[30] and later came to work as a stunt rider for the Quentin Carnival.[31]

Eventually, Zarathos would gain control of Johnny Blaze and the Ghost Rider would become the spirit of Zarathos unleashed. Johnny himself was becoming stronger as well, and the conflicting personalities led to a battle over Blaze's physical body.[32] Centurious appeared, trapping Blaze's soul in his soul crystal. Zarathos, weakened from the ordeal used the last of his strength to shatter the crystal, freeing Blaze's soul and many others contained inside of the crystal. Before the crystal was reformed, Centurious was absorbed into the crystal. Zarathos followed him into the crystal, freeing Blaze from the curse, restoring his soul and ending his time as the Ghost Rider.[33]

For a while, Johnny became a drifter and then an adventurer. He eventually became the owner of the carnival. In time, he learned of the existence of Daniel Ketch as the Ghost Rider. Believing the new Ghost Rider to be Zarathos, Johnny traveled to New York City to kill him.[34] Johnny abducted Ketch and battled the Ghost Rider. Johnny became convinced that Ketch was not Zarathos and aided him against Blackout.[35] Alongside the Ghost Rider and Spider-Man, Blaze then fought the Hobgoblin.[36] He also helped Ghost Rider and the X-Men battle the Brood Queen.[37]

He later teamed up with the new Ghost Rider to form the "Spirits of Vengeance". During this time Blaze would again ride a bike with wheels of fire and would sling a hellfire-spitting pump-gun. Their mentor Caretaker would later reveal that they were, in fact, brothers. In the team's first appearance, they battled Lilith and her Lilin.[38]

Blaze went back to leading his carnival. Despite it being staffed with many powerful entities, it was nearly destroyed in a demonic attack led by the creature Vengeance. The dead, friend and foe alike, were taken by government forces to be dissected. Blaze, with the help of friends, living and dead, breaks into the facility and destroys all the bodies.[volume & issue needed]

A later confrontation with the forces of evil would lead to Roxanne's death.[volume & issue needed] Blaze would later become a demon hunter, hunt down the demons responsible for her death and kill them all.[volume & issue needed] Roxanne was later discovered to have been resurrected as, or simply transformed into, the being named the Black Rose.[volume & issue needed] She was later returned to Johnny, despite memory loss, in the final issue of the Dan Ketch series of Ghost Rider.[volume & issue needed]

Starting over, Blaze eventually found a new job as an accountant and a new girlfriend, Chloe, in the 2001 Marvel Knights series "The Hammer Lane". Though at first it seemed he was free from the curse, Johnny would eventually transform back into Ghost Rider, since Zarathos had reconstituted himself in Johnny Blaze, despite being turned into a stone statue after his battle with the Midnight Sons.[39]

This Ghost Rider entity spoke only a singular line and was much more savage than Noble Kale.[volume & issue needed] At first, there was no indication as to who or what this creature was.[volume & issue needed] However, this entity would appear to be Zarathos, as it is stated in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z Volume 4 (TPB).

Johnny Blaze soon found himself constantly pursued by the demons of Hell, intent on forcing him to make good on the demonic pact that he had made to Mephisto. It was all that the Ghost Rider could do to outrun the evil, but it was not enough. Eventually, Johnny was captured and taken to Hell.[volume & issue needed]

The "Road to Damnation" series, by Garth Ennis and Clayton Crain, finds Johnny Blaze trapped in an endless cycle of torture and escape in the Pit. It is here that the angel Malachi appears to the Ghost Rider, offering to free him from Hell with his soul intact, in exchange for hunting down the demon Kazann who has been unleashed upon the Earth.[volume & issue needed]

Malachi tells Blaze that the only way he will be freed from Hell permanently is to beat the Archangel Ruth to Kazann, in order to stave off the destruction that she will cause should she fight him. Along the way, Blaze meets a demon, Hoss, who is also in pursuit of Kazann, and offers to help the Ghost Rider since they share the same goal.[volume & issue needed]

Hoss and Blaze fight with Ruth and she steals his bike; they pursue her in Hoss' Cadillac. When they arrive to where Ruth is Kazann is already free, thanks to the efforts of a corrupt paraplegic business owner named Earl Gustav. Hoss and Ruth fight while Blaze battles Kazann, who lets Johnny know that he has been duped by Malachi. As this happens Gustav's secretary, Jemima Catmint, makes her boss recite an incantation that sends Kazaan back to Hell. Johnny thinks that he is free, but gets shot in the head by a dying priest (whom he had blasted with hellfire earlier) with a holy bullet and is sent back to Hell. He confronts Malachi, who reveals that he tricked Johnny. Johnny threatens to kill him, but is prevented from doing so by Ruth, who kills him herself. Hoss appears and reveals that Kazann and Malachi were actually brothers, who passed information to each other about Heaven and Hell. Once Kazann escaped from Hell, Malachi needed to find someone (the Ghost Rider) to get him back before Ruth, in order to prevent Kazann from spilling the beans about Malachi exchanging secrets of Heaven with him while he was being tortured by angels.[volume & issue needed]

In July, 2006, a new ongoing monthly series began with a story titled "Vicious Cycle", which was written by Daniel Way, with art by Mark Texeira and Javier Saltares (the same artistic team from the 1990s series). The storyline takes place after the Ennis miniseries and features Johnny Blaze finally escaping from Hell.[volume & issue needed]

Blaze's escape is a plot engineered by Lucifer himself, as when Johnny escapes from Hell the devil comes with him. During a battle at a gas station, Blaze defeats the corpse of a recently deceased father that has been animated by the devil. Detecting the magical disturbance caused by Ghost Rider's escape, Doctor Strange investigates the situation, but, believing Doctor Strange to be Lucifer in disguise, Blaze attacks him and for the first time he uses the Penance Stare, debilitating Doctor Strange. It is then that the celestial being Numecet appears and reveals the intent of Lucifer to Blaze.[volume & issue needed]

Having healed Doctor Strange, Numecet tells Johnny Blaze that he is stronger than he can comprehend and is a vital part of Lucifer's plans, as he intends for the Ghost Rider to kill each of the bodies that he has possessed. It is revealed that when Lucifer traveled to the mortal realm his essence shattered and spread to 666 recently deceased people, each one of them resurrected and imbued with a portion of the devil's strength. In order to reform his body each one of the human hosts has to die, but they cannot die from suicide as that is a sin and would send the devil back to hell, requiring them to provoke others into killing them. As each one falls the remaining will become even stronger and Ghost Rider must kill them because, although others can kill the bodies at first, eventually the remaining hosts will become so powerful that no other being could kill them. Numecet attempts to dissuade Blaze but to no avail, Blaze vowing that he will force the devil into a single corporeal form and then drag him back to Hell once and for all.[volume & issue needed]

During the "Civil War" storyline, Johnny ends up in Sleepy Hollow, Illinois where a serial killer is decapitating local children and soon learns his identity: the supervillain known as Jack O'Lantern. Killed by the Punisher, Stevie Levins' body is occupied by one of the several aspects of Lucifer. The local sheriff thinks Blaze is to blame but soon realizes the truth. Ghost Rider and the sheriff confront Levins/Lucifer at the door of a preacher's house, and after a short fight Ghost Rider tears out Levins/Lucifer's heart and smashes his head.[40]

During the "World War Hulk" storyline, Johnny Blaze angers the Ghost Rider when he tries to save several people and allows the Lucifer fragment they were currently fighting to escape. Later after watching a broadcast on TV, Blaze decides to go to New York and fight the Hulk, against the Ghost Rider's will. The issue ends with Ghost Rider coming to a halt on his motorcycle in front of the Hulk.[41] After attempting to urge the Hulk to stop, Ghost Rider engages the Hulk. Their battle is monitored by Doctor Strange and Mister Fantastic. Doctor Strange believes that the entity that supplies Ghost Rider's mystic power is possibly capable of defeating the Hulk, stating that his powers are limitless, and only inhibited by the human side of the Ghost Rider, even going as far as to call his powers "godlike". However, as it is Johnny Blaze, not the fully powered demon Zarathos who is engaging the Hulk, the Hulk easily defeats Ghost Rider. After Johnny is knocked out, Zarathos himself emerges and rides off because, as Doctor Strange says in the end of the issue, Ghost Rider only protects the innocent, which none of the Illuminati are.[42]

Johnny eventually manages to defeat Lucifer by 'killing' one host by shoving a truck's gear-stick through its head and breaking its spine, leaving the host biologically alive but incapacitated. While the host is kept alive by Dixie, a trucker Johnny had encountered, Blaze tracks down what Lucifer believes is his final host and defeats it, exploiting the fact that Lucifer is only at half-strength. As soon as Johnny kills this host, Dixie and a group of local police are able to kill the brain-damaged Lucifer fragment – who now possesses the full soul of the devil but is in no condition to use that power – and send him back to Hell.[43]

Seven Riders show their flaming heads for the first time in this story arc by writer Jason Aaron and artist Tan Eng Huat. Daniel Ketch returns with a new mission: to collect the powers of all the Ghost Riders for the angel Zadkiel to prevent the corruption of the powers with their human hosts. Zadkiel has other motives he keeps to himself, one of which he needs the powers of the Riders for: to tear down the walls of New Jerusalem and wage war on Heaven. The story begins in Tibet with Chinese soldiers harassing a village, questioning them about weapons that killed two of his garrison patrols. During the harassment a peasant enters on a donkey. After a few exchange of words and an order to kill given by the General, the peasant changes and kills the General's men while his back is turned. When the General turns back he sees the Ghost Rider and gets a Penance Stare for his trouble. After the attack the Rider goes back to his sanctuary where he is visited by Danny Ketch. A short while later Sister Sara and Johnny Blaze arrive at the sanctuary to find out how to get back at Zadkiel. After entering, they find the peasant and donkey burnt to husks.[44]

That night, the two are visited by Ketch and begins a battle with a show of power. When Blaze does the Penance Stare to his brother, he sees exactly what has transpired. Ketch has murdered the hosts of numerous Riders for their powers. During a show of pity for the fallen, Ketch is able to return the Stare on Blaze and sends Blaze into temporary insanity. Before Ketch is able to take the power of Zarathos, he is stopped by the new Caretaker Sister Sara. She rescues Blaze and they go to a safehouse. At the safehouse, during Blaze's self-pity and Sara's trying to pick him back up, they are visited by two more Ghost Riders, the Arabic Molek and the Chinese Bai Gu Jing, whom they follow to Japan.[45]

When Blaze's team arrives in Japan, they learn Ketch has already taken the power of the Rider Yoshio Kannabe. After the conquest, Ketch has another talk with Zadkiel via communications link. During the conversation, Zadkiel massacres the squad of the Asura who guard the gates of Heaven. Zadkiel tells Ketch to wait to attack the Riders until the last ones are together. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world, former cop Kowalski follows a contact to get a hellfire shotgun for his revenge on Blaze.[46]

After acquiring the item he is then driven to the middle of a desert to sit and wait for his chance. After leaving Japan, Blaze's team journeys to the City of the Skulls in the Congo where the last stand would be made. There they meet the Lords of the Congo, the Ghost Riders Baron Skullfire and Marinette Bwachech, and their Phantom Riders. During the day Sara tells Molek about her new experience becoming a Caretaker, and her wonders about religion, with which she is given secret information that Molek knows about both. As the Ghost Riders and their forces ready for battle, Blaze has his eyes opened by two children who go to participate in the fight. He quickly snaps out of his depression and joins the others for the final battle.[47]

During the course of the battle, Baron Skullfire dies and the spirit is transferred to one of the Phantom Riders, after which Ketch creates hellfire duplicates of himself to take the on the warriors. A wager is then made by Blaze and Ketch on a race between the brothers around the world for the fates of the powers. During the race, Blaze is critically injured by Kowalski's shotgun and Ketch takes the Rider from him as his duplicates overpower the others. Moments later, Ketch relinquishes the power of the Spirits of Vengeance to Heaven, with Zadkiel now able to storm it. The sound of the gates falling is enough to be felt by Spider-Man's spider-sense and loud enough to be heard even in Hell and Asgard. When an injured Blaze returns to the City of the Skulls, Ketch falls from the sky, revealing that the battle for Heaven has already been decided. As more energies fall from the heavens, one strikes Kowalski and changes him into a new Rider that looks a lot like Vengeance.[48]

After the battle with Zadkiel and his Black Host, Johnny Blaze parts ways with Ketch and Sara. He eventually wanders to a Japanese village, living in the nearby temple. The villagers are suddenly invaded by demons and their flesh is transformed into heinous forms by a creature called the Skinbender. Blaze's attempt to fight back result in her trying to morph his flesh, but finds his skin burns to the touch due to his power, prompting her to demand that he transform into the Ghost Rider. When he does, she breaks down crying, claiming that he is the most beautiful thing she had ever seen and begs for him to speak. He simply responds with "Burn", leading a storm of fire to rain onto the village, incinerating the demons and restoring the villagers to their normal states. At the same time, Sara arrives in the village to reunite with Blaze to continue their quest against Zadkiel. She finds him in the process of grinding up the Skinbender, before tossing her into the sea. Sara then consoles Blaze, asking him to think of his family and asks where they are. He replies, saying that they are in Heaven. They then depart from the village to continue their journey.[49]

The Antichrist, Kid Blackheart, after being hunted down by Zadkiel's agents on Earth, is saved by occult terrorist Jaine Cutter, despite Daimon Hellstorm's efforts to slay him. Eventually, the three encounter Johnny, Danny and Sara, and are forced to join forces in a desperate attempt to defeat Zadkiel in Paradise. Eventually, after reaching Heaven with Danny, he and Danny both attack Zadkiel, but are quickly overwhelmed; however, the spirits of Blaze's deceased wife and children encourage him to rise and continue to fight Zadkiel, rallying the combined forces of the Spirits of Vengeance (whom Ketch had been tricked into returning to Heaven by Zadkiel) against the renegade Archangel. After Zadkiel realizes that he was not, and never would be, the one true God, as Blaze tells him, "Only God can make a Ghost Rider, Zadkiel. You should know that. And only God can destroy one. You may have been able to shift that power around, to even leech it from its hosts. But you were never really able to control it. And you certainly couldn't kill it. You're not God, Zadkiel. You're just another power-mad wannabe who desperately needs his ass kicked. And that's exactly what the Ghost Riders are for", he is defeated and banished to Hell, with God, revealed to have never perished at all, reclaiming Heaven and thanking Blaze for all he did for Paradise and its billions of souls.[50]

During the "Shadowland" storyline, Kingpin and Lady Bullseye perform a ritual which brings back Ghost Rider in a plot to attack the Hand.[51] After Ghost Rider returns to Kingpin, he is forced to travel to Japan to confront the ancient ninja clan the Hand, and, unable to directly combat them due to the Hand magic binding him, provokes them into killing him. Blaze's soul emerges in a white void, and God, after telling him he is needed still, sends him back to the mortal realm, and, in gratitude for his role in defeating Zadkiel, aiding him by reinforcing him with a battalion force of Black Host warrior angels who are able to quickly slaughter the Hand ninjas with ease. Freed from the curse, Blaze rides off into the distance on his motorcycle.[52]

During the "Fear Itself" storyline, Johnny Blaze becomes more agitated about his curse and is then approached by a mysterious figure known as Adam who claims he can help Blaze be rid of the Ghost Rider once and for all. Blaze was ambivalent to the man's gesture, thinking there was a catch to his offer, but Adam simply put that the curse will be passed to someone he never met. Blaze accepts the offer and was told to drive the Rider out of his soul. Blaze was finally rid of the Rider for good from then on while Adam went about his way to find a new host for the Ghost Rider. In Dayton, Ohio when Sin (in the form of Skadi) attacks the city, she fights a new female Ghost Rider. After the female Ghost Rider is defeated, Mephisto appears before Johnny Blaze stating that he has damned the human race and will help Johnny out.[53]

Explaining that 'Adam' was the original Adam, Mephisto reveals that the new Ghost Rider is a girl named Alejandra that Adam has raised in isolation for years, intending to use her to purge the world of sin, unconcerned about the fact that this will deprive humanity of free will.[54] Despite his distaste at working with Mephisto for anything – the devil's motives clarified as being to preserve his own existence – Blaze is able to convince Alejandra to abandon Adam's plan after she renders an entire town catatonic. However, although Johnny was initially willing to let her serve as the new Ghost Rider, when her attempt to regain the town's lost sin nearly sends the world to Hell – her efforts only being narrowly defeated by the new Venom, Red Hulk and X-23 – Blaze is finally convinced by Doctor Strange to take back the Ghost Rider mantle, following Alejandra into Hell as she attempts to kill Mephisto and regaining the full power of the Ghost Rider, although Alejandra retains a fragment of its power for herself.[55]

Much later, Ghost Rider joins Red Hulk's Thunderbolts to help take out Mercy, when she was unleashed.[2] During a mission in which General Ross is searching for his missing men in an ancient temple in the South American jungles, the Leader incites a spell that momentarily removes the flame from Johnny Blaze. In the brief moment where he has lost the Spirit of Vengeance, Blaze is brutally torn apart and killed by a swamp demon.[56]

General Ross is the only one to survive the mission and comes face to face with Mansuco, one of the men he was looking for that acquired divine powers. Mancuso gives Ross the option to either die on the spot or erase the mission from history. Ross chooses to erase the mission from the timestream returning Johnny Blaze to life.[57]

Following several other missions, the Punisher quit the Thunderbolts, only to find that his safehouse had been booby-trapped and destroyed.[volume & issue needed] Setting out for revenge on the Thunderbolts for the attack, Punisher attempted to slay the Ghost Rider with Mephisto's sword, which he got from Zadkiel. Ghost Rider thwarted this attempt, but ultimately Punisher was able to release Johnny from the Spirit of Vengeance by decapitating his flaming skull with his own chain.[volume & issue needed] The curse once again leaves Johnny, only to return to him by the series' end.[58]

In All New, All-Different Marvel, Johnny learns of the new Ghost Rider in East Los Angeles.[59] When confronting Reyes, Johnny realizes that this new Ghost Rider is a body indwelt by two human souls.[60] Once he finally learns the identities of these two souls—those being the soul of the serial killer Eli Morrow and his host, Robbie Reyes—Johnny decides to help Reyes learn how to be a true Ghost Rider by controlling his inner evil. Johnny helps Reyes fight Eli's former Russian mob allies and Mister Hyde. When Robbie finally gains control over Eli's soul, the Ghost Riders bid him farewell, Johnny telling the young new Ghost Rider if he has trouble again to call on his fellow Ghost Riders.[61]

During the "Damnation" storyline, Ghost Rider joins up with Wong's incarnation of the Midnight Sons when Mephisto and Hotel Inferno manifest in Las Vegas.[62] While the Midnight Sons and Scarlet Spider fight the demons, Ghost Rider rides his motorcycle to the top of Hotel Inferno to confront Mephisto. After Mephisto removes the Ghost Rider spell from Johnny Blaze, he throws Blaze from the roof.[63] After Johnny was thrown off the roof, he passes away. This is all part of Wong's plan. In Hell, Johnny Blaze finds the now-independent Spirit of Vengeance and persuades him to help reach Mephisto's throne. The two of them combine together and make their way through the circles of Hell until they reach Mephisto's throne.[64] Upon Doctor Strange defeating him, Mephisto fled back to his realm where he was defeated by Johnny Blaze and the different Ghost Riders from across the Multiverse. After Johnny Blaze sent Mephisto back to Earth, he was kept at the top of Hotel Inferno in countless restraints as Hotel Inferno remained on Earth.[65]

When Cosmic Ghost Rider arrives in Hell, he is welcomed by its current ruler Johnny Blaze.[66]

During the events of Absolute Carnage, Johnny (via an astral projection) asks Danny Ketch to find and help a former Ghost Rider, Alejandra Jones, who is being attacked by Carnage.[67]

When a group of Demons escape Hell through a portal, Johnny follows them in order to send them back. He encounters Danny Ketch fight kill one of the Demons he's hunting and the two talk about the Spirit of Vengeance, with Johnny disappointed that Danny doesn't embrace his role as Ghost Rider. He leaves after spotting a Demon in a human disguise and after failing to get the location of the other Demons, Johnny uses his Damnation Stare to kill it. His time in Hell has corrupted him, changing the Ghost Rider's skull to one with a horned and crown appearance. Johnny finds another Demon, who tells him of the location of a huge Demon gathering. Johnny kills it and proceeds to kill the others as well until Danny arrives to stop him, believing he's killing innocent people. The two fight and after a bike chase, Johnny strips the Spirit of Vengeance from Danny. Afterwards, Johnny ponders where the find the other Demons and how they could've escaped Hell, coming to the conclusion that there's only one who can help him: Mephisto. Riding to Vegas, Johnny kills two more Demons and arrives at the Hotel Inferno and is confronted by Wong. The two are attacked by more Demons and afterwards, Johnny and Wong fight one another, with the former winning after chaining and using the Penance Stare on Wong. Johnny frees Mephisto from his prison and drags him in chains behind him.[68
