Chainsaw Man Chapter 220 Thoughts

I’m going to feel completely honest when it comes the latest chapter of Chainsaw Man.  These past couple weeks of delivering my thoughts on each chapter up until the day this one dropped was interesting.  It’s just that feeling of knowing I’m going to be like everyone else from hear on out where my share my thoughts on a chapter of Chainsaw Man whenever Tatsuki Fujimoto decides to release the next one. One thing that comes to mind is how this chapter faired knowing a simple fact we had to wait 2 weeks. 

Let me just preference with an phrase I used in the previous chapter thoughts. Fool me once, shame once you. Fool me twice shame on me. Fool me three times  shame on us both. Is it possible we could add a Fool me four times? I say that because of what transpired at the very beginning. Nayuta unveiled a chain from the tip of her finger onto Asa/Yoru which commanded her to act like a dog.  When approached by Denji as to why such a thing was committed?  Nayuta straight up told him that she spat on him and he demanded for her to turn Asa back to normal. Nayuta doesn’t budge because she’s hungry and won’t do anything until then, which Denji obliges to cook something thus leaving Nayuta excited. In the middle of their meal, Denji repeats to Nayuta to turn Asa back to normal after she’s finished with her food while keeping the dogs away who wanna have some of the cooking he made. Asa rested by a few of the other dogs alongside meowy <- the cat which belonged to Power previously.  

Nayuta raises a serious point to Denji about the woman who’ve entered his life tend end his life. That almost implies that he’s told her about Reze and Makima, or at the very least has alluded to them at some point between the end of Part 1 and Part 2.  She asks  him what makes Asa different from the other woman, and Denji just says it’s based on a feeling he has about her. Nayuta agrees to turn Asa back  normal on two specific conditions. She is allowed to eat ice cream every day, and that’s is fine with Denji as long as he gets some too. The second condition is that Nayuta doesn’t want him to be friendly with Asa anymore because she doesn’t like her sent, and would even decide to alter her memories so that Asa believes he never showed up.  Denji isn’t exactly too fond of the idea, but it’s also noted how much Nayuta values him in her life.  Of course, given the state of everything that’s happened in his life, Denji puts Nayuta first above all leaving her to give a cheery smile with a simply peace sign in a manner that was similar to the one Denji made during Part 1.

Finally,  Asa is seen back at the school around  the evening hours by the front where Yoru notes that Denji stood them up, and that perhaps it would be to pursue a different guy.  She believes of a possibility that Denji might’ve just forgotten which didn’t bother her <-  more of the contrary to say the least,  and goes through deep in-depth analysis of copium for why things turned out the way they did for her.  Yoru isn’t exactly super impressed by the way things are turning out for Asa’s thought process of convincing herself. That is while she questioned why that’s bothering her when it should be focused on being in control of her body again like before.  Out of nowhere, Yoshida pops into the scene asking Asa if she’s okay, and if he can be given some company for a bit since she’s got nothing better to do bringing a close to the chapter. 

All in all, I give this chapter of Chainsaw Man a Pure Perfection rating. There isn’t anything more that I could’ve asked for in a followup to the previous one, and yes it took a turn in a direction I didn’t necessarily expect. However, it is without a doubt one of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s strongest suites as a writer and a mangaka. The dynamic Denji and Nayuta share together was honestly the biggest highlight for me with this chapter, and it continues to showcase really how much more growth Denji has gone through then what we’ve initially realized since the events of Part 1. Their bonding stems from a big brother- little sister relationship, and it’s just wholesome and amazing.  Part of me does have to wonder about Yoshida’s role in Part 2 because it’s felt kind of suspicious and the way this chapter ended continues to leave that sensation.  By the looks of things we won’t be getting another chapter until next Tuesday which I’m totally fine with especially since it’ll be the end of this current volume (#14). That being said, this is pretty much all I’ve gotta say when it pertains to this week’s chapter of Chainsaw Man, but I do hope you all stay safe out there and take care of yourselves!

Annnd just like that another chapter done and silly at that.

I have to say this prison break arc is going well, a little too well. Idk if that’s Fujimotot wanting this arc done seeing we have these weekly updates.

It’s interesting everything is going right for Asa meanwhile Denji at his worst and vulnerable. Fami has been in background or out sight with the paneling.

Fujimoto good building up just to hit us hard with the dread which pays off.

Part 1 had 11 volumes part 2 currently has 6. So story wise we are ramping up. Either OG chainsaw man is coming when Denji is put back together.

Thankfully Fujimoto taking a break next chapter is April 23. I doubt Quanxi will be killed by Yoru but anything is possible. We still have no idea where other hybrids are especially Barem the menace

CHAPTER 2

The handy rang. Destiny huffed in annoyance, but started to smile brightly as she saw Wanda’s name and number. She picked up.

„Heya Wanda ! What do you need ?“, she asked.

„Hi Dest ! Uhm…listen…About today and our meeting…“

„You can’t come, right ? Too much work again…“

„No, no ! Not that !“

„Then what is it ?“

„My…my friend Loki, wants to meet you. Dr, Loki Laufeyson. He is a coroner.“

„Why does he want to meet me ?“, she asked darkly.

„Well…he was interested in you. I know you hate men, but believe me, Loki is different. He hates women, since one played with his heart as he was 15 years old and was seduced into bed. He is 23 years old. And very mature. I promise that he is.“

Destiny was deep in thoughts and after a long while she sighed defeated.

„Fine. He can come with you. But if he is acting like an imbecile, I will leave you and him behind. Mark my words.“, she threatened.

„Got it ! Trust me, you will not regret it ! And also, he looks handsome.“

„Looks are not everything a man has to own. Manners are the most important things.“, Destiny told her bored.

„Alright then ! Make yourself an image.“, Wanda groaned.

„When will we meet ?“

„How about…6 PM ?“

„Fine with me, Wan.“

„I have to tell you so much ! And I bet with you, that you will like Loki. He is cool !“

„Watch it Wan. Vision will be jealous, if he hears that out of your pretty mouth~“, Destiny teased.

„S-shut up !“, she said.

Destiny just laughed at that in humor.

„Adorable. Still didn’t get the courage to let Vision enter you with the Vision – D ?“, she joked.

„SHUT UP !!“, she yelled embarrassed.

„Oh Dear…Detective Maximoff, why are you so red in the face and yelling at the person on the phone ?“, someone asked.

„Loki ! Destiny teases me ! Help.“

There was a chuckle.

„Is she also joking about you and Vision still not having Sex ?“, he asked.

„LOKI !!“, Wanda yelled.

Loki laughed at that and Destiny did too.

„Are you done with investigating ?“, Wanda asked annoyed.

„I am not. The bodies will be moved to my…office…and then I will cut them open. Maybe I find more than just the weapon that parted the body parts from them.“

„What was it ?“

„A chainsaw.“

Wanda went pale in shock.

„A-a chainsaw ?“

„Yes. I saw it on the clear cut off bones and flesh. It was a chainsaw.“, Loki answered simply.

„OOOhhh ! Wanda has a murder case ! WHOP !! WHOP !! GO WANDA GO AND FUCK VISION FINALLY !!!“, Destiny yelled through the phone.

Wanda went red while Loki chuckled.

„Shut up…“, Wanda mumbled grumpily.

„I am not saying anything.“, Loki told her.

„Alright. I will see you two Dudes at 6 PM sharp ! Don’t be late Wanda !!“, Destiny said.

„We won’t be. Until then.“

„BYEE !“

And with that Destiny ended the call. She smiled softly at Wanda’s name and then went into her kitchen, making herself something to eat.

‚Fourth week. Author time…Man…I am stuck on the last chapter….How can I let it just end ?‘ ______________________________

The hours went by like seconds for Destiny. She didn’t know how to end her book. She did everything in her house and looked into the cloudy sky, thinking of how to end her book. But she got no ideas. Soon her handy alarmed her that she just has 45 minutes left to get ready and meet with Wanda and this…Loki guy. She sighed and got up, making herself ready and then on her very way. ______________________________

With Loki and Wanda it went not really different. The time was fast and Loki found little to nothing.

„What did you find, Loki ?“, Wanda asked him.

„They were both drugged out with K.O. drops. No hit in the head, nothing. They got separated from their limbs by a chainsaw and it was almost 10 hours and 36 minutes ago. They weren’t murdered in the forest, but somewhere else. And they were bound with ropes. The angry bruises tell you that. Chains would look differently on the skin. Nothing else. No blood, no hair, no spit…just nothing ! Like always !“

„Did you look at their eyes ? They say the eyes are mostly the key to discover more.“

Loki looked at her and hit his own forehead.

„How could I forget about that ?!“, he asked himself angrily.

He opened their eyelids, only to hear Wanda gasp in shock and Loki gave an expression of disappointment. Their eyes…were carved out of their skulls. Empty sockets.

„Well, I believe we have it to do here, with an expert. A very good expert. No evidence, no fingerprints, nothing to track the murderer down. He did a very good job.“, Loki mumbled disappointed.

„Any sperm in the woman’s body ?“

„Yes. But it is from her husband. I checked. 20 times.“

„How…?“

Loki gave her a bemused look.

„You didn‘t !“

„I did, what I had to, Detective Maximoff.“, Loki told her bored.

What did Loki do ? He cut open the man’s scrotum.

„Surprisingly he had a lot inside still.“

„What is that supposed to mean ?“

„They were at Sex, before they had a load of knock out drops in their system. Means they took a small break and drank something, then returned and were at it again, just sadly the drops took effect. It wasn’t long after they got killed. I don’t think a man is aroused at being threatened with a chainsaw death.“, he told her bemused.

„So it was planned. A break – in and then they were knocked out and dragged somewhere then shortly after that, murdered.“

„Yes. It appears so.“

„Appears ?“

„Maybe they also were at a party or something. Maybe they got drunk and then the drops came.“

„Did you find any alcohol in their system ?“

„I did. And that lots. But the strongest I found were the K.O. drops.“, Loki answered simply.

„So…either they had a party going on or they were at home and got drunk.“

„Yes. These are the only options. But I do not know more. Maybe tomorrow I will find more.“

„Alright.“

„Here. Take these reports and results to your office for now. Show them the Boss, if you have to.  Tomorrow I need them back to add things, if I find a bit more.“, Loki said and handed Wanda the documents.

She took them and nodded.

„Thank you Loki. Not just for taking your free day off and come here, but also for all the work you put into. I promise you, I will try and get the Boss to give you a vacation. You really need a few days off of your job.“

Loki gave her a small smile.

„You are most welcome. It would be very nice, if you could get him to give me a few days off.“

Then Wanda looked at her phone and the time, her eyes widened.

„Damn it ! We need to hurry now, Loki ! We have 30 minutes left, then we meet Destiny !!“, she said panicked.

Loki nodded and then walked with her to her office.

„Do you want me, to drive you home, Wanda ?“

„Could you ? It would be very nice of you.“

Loki nodded.

„Then hurry.“

And with that they storm – walked out of the building and to Loki’s car. She jumped in and Loki already put on his seatbelt. Then he started the engine and drove off.

„But you will take longer than I.“, Wanda suddenly remembered.

Loki chuckled.

„No I won‘t. I have my suit on and there is no blood on it. I am done. You need a dress or something. Something better than your work clothes.“, Loki told her amused.

Wanda blushed at that and was silent. Soon they arrived at her house.

„I will be right back.“, she told him and Loki nodded.

10 minutes later and she came back and she looked beautiful. Loki’s eyes widened in awe. She had a red dress on and a little red eye shadow.

She opened the car door and sat herself inside.

„How do I look ?“, she asked him.

„You look perfect. Vision would totally rip all of it off to get this little snack~“, Loki purred.

Wanda blushed and playfully punched Loki’s shoulder.

„Idiot…“

Loki went into full laughter at that and started the engine, driving to the place, Wanda told him to drive to. ______________________________

They were at the little Cafe first. Wanda and Loki took already a seat and had tea and coffee. 2 minutes earlier than planned.

„Thank you again, Loki. For driving me. I owe you one.“, Wanda told him.

Loki almost never drives people around in his car. Wanda knew that and was utterly grateful, that he took her and drove her home. Loki took a sip of his tea.

„No problem. Just don’t get used to it, Wanda.“, Loki said.

„I would never dare to get used to such a nice gesture. I know how much you hate people in your car, even if they were your friends. I really owe you one.“

Loki chuckled at that.

„You owe me nothing. I did it, because you are my friend and wouldn’t dare to abuse that position. I trust you enough that you will keep your hands by Vision and not suddenly swoon over me.“

„I would never dare ! I stay with Vision. Loki, your money doesn’t concern me. I like you as a good friend. Your personality is great, like everything else about you. I would be lying, if I wouldn’t say that you are also handsome as hell, but I would never part from Vision and throw myself at you. Vision is my love. My life and my heartbeat. Don’t take it personally.“, Wanda told him.

„Personally ?“

„I said it like I hate you, but…I am bad in explaining….“, Wanda mumbled.

„I understood your words. You think my personality is awesome, I also look handsome as hell, but I am not your type and you would never dare to fool me in false love with yourself, just to get on my money. You would never wish to hurt me greatly.“

„As I listened to myself…It sounded so mean towards you. I am sorry.“

Loki chuckled softly and put his arm around Wanda’s shoulders.

„I understood. I know that explaining is a huge weakness for you. You aren’t from here and you had bad experiences. I am not hurt, nor mad.“, he assured her.

She smiled and kissed his left cheek.

„Thank you for not being mad at me and understanding the actual cause, I meant.“, she said.

„Not a problem, Wanda.“

„Sometimes I ask myself, how we became good friends in the first place. I was so bad in your language and called you names, without wanting it.“, she giggled at that.

Loki laughed out loud at that.

„I must admit, I thought you lost your mind, until the Boss explained to me, that you aren‘t from here and didn’t mean any harm. That you were still learning English.“

„I am still sorry about that. Man…you were so angered at me…“

„And in the end we joked around, saved one another’s butts from the wrath of the Boss and became friends.“

„Good friends. You were my first friend, I made. Then 3 days after I had you as a friend, I met Destiny and after that…I met Vision. And we fell for one another instantly.“

Loki looked at Wanda in surprise.

„I was your first friend you made ?“, he asked.

Wanda blushed in shame.

„Well, yeah. I wanted to make up for the words I said and the pain I must have caused you. So I spent all my efforts in having you forgiving me.“, she answered.

Loki was touched at that.

„I am honored to know that, Wanda.“, he told her softly.

She looked at him and then smiled.

„I like you too, you dork.“, she said giggling.

He chuckled too at that.

„Heya Wan !“, yelled a voice in happiness.

Since there's no number mentioned, I'll just pick the ones I can actually talk about. I'm super new to this fandom so I'm still discovering stuff.

WARNING: contains manga spoilers (for part 1)

1.My first impression of them:

Okay, I'll be honest I knew that I would love him just from his first scene alone. I love stoic black haired characters that are probably insane. I was a little sus of him when he beat up Denji tho -- not my baby boyyy :<

When I first saw Aki though I had no idea how much he'd make me cry tho ugh.

10. Describe the character in one sentence:

"Local tragic bastard somehow still loves in a world that constantly punishes those who do"

(No pls my hands gonna slip soon and I'm gonna write about this asshole and his stupid kindness and heart and typical-shounen-bullshit-spun-on-its-head)

12. Sexuality headcannon: not-a-complete-disaster-bisexual, maybe devil-sexual lol (he loves Angel in my mind and it's tragic as hell)

13. Your favourite friendship they have: Denji, Power and Aki are literally THE friendship. Like, every single domestic scene with them in the manga I ate up like a rabid animal. Absolutely feral for them you do not know. As someone who almost always sways towards gen, platonic and/or queerplatonic relationships, they. are. everything. (Reasons why I can't move on to part 2 of the manga aaa)

21. When do you think they were their happiest? This scene:

The way he turned and smiled at them when they weren't looking??? MAH HEART. I think that this and every other quite, domestic moment he gets with Power and Denji are him at his happiest. After all, even years with Himeno couldn't get Aki to do what a few months with these two did: give up revenge. Damn.

23. Future Headcannon: the future is the best! (I swear to god if I hear "future" and "aki" in the same sentence I'm going to stab something. Future devil did him dirty showing him that last premonition >:<). I think that unlike Power, who can be reincarnated as the Blood Demon, Aki's fate is very much sealed at the end of part 1. Baby is not coming back :(

30. The funniest scene they had: I have two

The entire Power moves in scene. It's so funny how Denji and Aki are on the same page for the first time ever. The Anime made it 10x better by adding those head movements for Aki lmao.

At the end of chapter 72 (which is such a quietly emotional chapter, as all Aki chapters tend to be), Aki eats food that Denji and Power made for him (aww) and then promptly throws up. I expected it but it was still so funny (the last funny scene in pt 1 I think. I like to pretend the manga just ends there.)

LeBron James might be out of the NBA playoffs, but he’s still angling to be a big part of the summer entertainment season. That’s because HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by a very special sequel.

Space Jam: A New Legacy premieres on July 16. will find LeBron teaming up with the Looney Tunes in a Warner Bros. IP-extravaganza. Can ‘Bron and the Looney Tunes beat the Goon Squad before Warner Bros.’ server steals LeBron “Bronny” Jr.’s soul (or something)? Let’s hope so. The two other major WB releases this month, No Sudden Move and Tom and Jerry in New York, both come to HBO Max on July 1.

HBO Max is also bringing some fun TV shows to its stream this month. The long-awaited Gossip Girl revival premieres on July 8. That will be followed by Mike White’s satirical limited series The White Lotus on July 11. Ronan Farrow’s excellent book Catch and Kill gets a docuseries adaptation on July 12.

July 1 will see the arrival of library titles like Planet of the Apes, Reservoir Dogs, and Scream. Recent hit Judas and the Black Messiah comes to HBO Max on that date as well. It’s a good month for geek TV with the Doctor Who 2020 Christmas Special (July 1), Nancy Drew season 2 (July 3), and Batwoman season 2 (July 27) all coming home to their streaming residence.

A guide listing each chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and its corresponding anime episode (part 1)

This is part 1, covering all of the pre-Duelist Kingdom chapters of the manga (1-59).  For this portion of the manga, there are two anime adaptations: the “season 0″ first series anime produced by Toei Animation (henceforth be referred to as the Toei Anime), and the “Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters” second series anime produced by Nihon Ad Systems and Studio Gallop (henceforth be referred to as the Duel Monsters Anime)

This project was influenced by the website Kanzenshuu, which lists which episodes of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z correspond to each chapter of the Dragon Ball manga and vice-versa.

A Top 30 Horror Movies

This is Halloween! This is Halloween! There are a lot of awesome horror movies, but I picked just 30 that qualify as my favorites. 

#30 - The Conjuring

So this movie isn’t perfect. The last 20-30 minutes kinda turn into a mess as the demon gets more confrontational. But, the first 90 minutes are a near perfect slow build of tension and smart visual storytelling. All the actors do a good job, even the kids. This movie has insured I never play Hide and Clap.

#29 - Paranormal Activity 2

In my opinion superior to the (still pretty good) original, PA2 moves faster than its predecessor and uses the audience’s curiosity against them in interesting ways. You’re always looking to the edges of the screen for something or someone out of place, and as the movie progresses, that curiosity rattles the nerves more and more.

#28 - The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

One of the only modern horror remakes that improves and expands on the original. The Hills Have Eyes hit when I was a junior in high school. It is gleefully gorey and deranged. People die in awful ways, and the protagonist (seen above) spends most of the last half hour drenched in blood. It’s a lot of fun if you’re into that sort of thing.

#27 - Event Horizon

Space Horror is a hard genre to get right. Event Horizon knocks it out of the park by getting the slow build right. There are gruesome and bloody images from time to time, but the majority of the movie is built on tension and dread. Having Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne leading the cast adds some dramatic weight to the proceedings.

#26 - The VVitch

The GOAT 17th Century rural horror movie. This movie gets real weird and leaves a lot up to the audience’s imagination. The less said about it the better if you haven’t seen it. But, even for the 2010s renaissance of horror, this one stands out.

#25 - Hereditary

This is a list of my favorite horror movies, not the scariest. If it were “scariest” this would be top 10, maybe top 5. The second half of this movie is some of the most uncomfortable and relentlessly horrifying storytelling I’ve ever seen. Across just two feature films, Director Ari Aster has proved himself a master of the horror genre. We’re all worse off for it.

#24 - Return of the Living Dead

The first movie on this list that is more funny than scary, Return of the Living Dead is laugh out loud hilarious at times. Somehow, it still manages to be a more effective zombie movie than most serious ones. Great punk rock soundtrack and highly quotable, this is great for people who scare a little too easily.

#23 - Friday the 13th Part 2

Basically improving on the original in every way, Friday the 13th Part 2 is iconic even without Jason’s hockey mask making an appearance. The killer instead keeps a lumpy bag over his head the whole time. The movie lets you know early on that its going to be ridiculous, when the Part 2 logo literally smashes through the Friday the 13th title card. Great representation of the slasher genre.

#22 - Suspiria (2018)

I’m a sucker for lore in movies, and Suspiria is full to the brim with details that expand on the world. Led by great performances from Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson, the movie is highly intelligent and occasionally brutally violent. The fact that the director’s prior movie was “Call Me By Your Name” shows that he’s a talented filmmaker no matter the genre.

#21 - Halloween (1978)

Michael Myers is iconic. The music is iconic. Jamie Lee Curtis is an all-time great horror leading lady. Halloween is a must watch for horror genre fans. 

#20 - Get Out

This movie is so well written it won an Oscar. Get Out is both hilarious and brutally tense. The acting is awesome across the board. Who knew Jordan Peele would use his comedy talent to make a career in scary movies? 

#19 - Shaun of the Dead

A classic comedy filled with so many jokes that it takes about 3 watches to catch them all. Not scary in the least, but uniquely playful in the genre. Also made Simon Pegg a star. Nothing but greatness here.

#18 - The Descent

I’ll always remember my first watch of this movie. It slaps you in the face with trauma in the first 5 minutes. Then spends three quarters of an hour building tension and claustrophobia before suddenly becoming a solid monster feature. Though it fizzles a little at the end with some wtf moments, the first 3/4ths are very effecting.

#17 - Nightmare on Elm Street

Nightmare on Elm Street is just a cool as hell idea for a horror movie. It takes the occasional predictability of Halloween or Friday the 13th and flips it. The kills are inventive and visually interesting, the effects are very cool, and you get to see Johnny Depp get brutally murdered. win-win-win.

#16 - Saw

Saw came out at a perfect age for me. Seeing this movie at 16 was a great experience. Even as the sequels got worse and worse, the whodunnit nature of the original held up. People were literally drowning in gore by Saw 3, but this is a solid movie that knows when to tone things down. Great watch.

#15 - Evil Dead 2

By turns hilarious and unsettling, watching Evil Dead 2 allows the viewer to marvel at the special effects done on a shoestring budget. Bruce Campbell is an absurd and talented physical actor, and singlehandedly carries this movie into the hall of fame.

Chopping the 1,000 page Stephen King book in half allowed the first half of the IT saga to thrive. Bill Skarsgard is a fantastic Pennywise, and the child actors all do well. A slightly repetitive series of scares keeps this one from perfection (and would be the downfall of Part 2), but its still an amazing peak of the genre.

#13 - Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Fast zombies. Zack Snyder directing before his head got too big. Hilarious musical cues. Apocalyptic imagery. This movie is one of the best of the zombie genre.

#12 - Fright Night (1985)

One of the most simply fun movies on this list, Fright Night is straight out of the mid 80s. It never takes itself too seriously, but it still has some good scares sprinkled in. An essential vampire movie, and the remake with Colin Farrell wasn’t half bad either.

#11 - The Omen (1976)

One of my early favorites, The Omen is another lore filled film that gradually ramps up the twists until the dramatic finale. Probably one of the least scary films on my list, its built on Gregory Peck being a great actor and a few pretty messed up deaths.

#10 - An American Werewolf in London

Another favorite from childhood, this is the best the werewolf genre has to offer. Made by John Landis who also did Animal House and Blues Brothers, American Werewolf balances 80s level of gore with award winning special effects and clever music (every song featured has moon in the title).

#9 - It Follows

One of the newest (and most original) movies on the list, It Follows is one of a kind. It’s terrifying, has great cinematography and halfway through the movie you have absolutely no clue how it will end. Must see.

#8 - Midsommar

This is absolute newest film on the list, and one I’m anxious to rewatch. Midsommar sets itself apart by being 95% in broad daylight and providing a wealth of backstory to the “bad guys”. Also Florence Pugh shows that she is an amazingly skilled actress, particularly in the final 10 minutes.

#7 - The Exorcist

^That guy is scary. He’s also only in the movie for like 3 seconds. Obviously this is a classic. If you haven’t seen it and like horror at all, it will still amaze you, almost 50 years later. I would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall when it was in theaters watching people lose their minds. Still a masterpiece of the genre.

#6 - The Blair Witch Project

I watched The Blair Witch Project for the first time alone in my room at age...I believe 14. That was a mistake. While the mistakes of the hikers become a bit hilarious on multiple rewatches, the night scenes are still tense af. The last 15 minutes are uniquely terror-inducing. Everybody’s seen this one, but if you haven’t, maybe watch it with the lights on?

#5 - The Evil Dead (2013)

This movie is one of the most intense and relentless horror movies ever. Nail guns, rusty knives, a turkey carver, a chainsaw, a machete: people get literally ripped apart in this movie. But, here’s the thing, its really really fun to watch. You’ll be out of breath when its over, but still.

#4 - Cabin in the Woods

Cabin in the Woods isn’t THAT scary. It flirts with scary. It has some shocking and frightening moments But mostly its a shitload of fun that plays on every trope of the horror genre. It also has one of my favorite final moments of any film on this list.

#3 - The Thing

Underappreciated upon its release, The Thing has become the standard by which body horror is measured. Its delightfully paranoid and lets the audience sit and think as gruesome deaths pile up. 

#2 - Alien

One of the first movies to terrify me, Alien is one of the greatest horror movies ever made. The monster design is iconic. The kills and set pieces are one of a kind. It has a kick ass female heroine played by Sigourney Weaver. What more do you want?

#1 - The Shining

YEAHHHHHHH Here’s a brief list of iconic Shining scenes: - An elevator full of blood - The old woman in room 237 - All work and no play make Jack a dull boy - The snowy hedge maze - Here’s Johnny - Danny’s vision of the twins - The house of horrors finale featuring the man in bear costume featured above and of course - REDRUM This movie is a masterpiece, made by one of the greatest directors of all time, starring one of the greatest actors of all time and based on one of the scariest books by the defining horror author of our time. Its damn near perfect.

Part 24: Keeping Up Appearances

As soon as Negan’s hand grazed her cheek, Rebecca’s head jerked up from its resting place against her chest and her eyes opened wide, staring at him. Her face was emotionless; just a blank slate of pale skin with Stephen’s drying blood streaming from her mouth and down her chest.

“Holy fucking shit!” he cried, falling back onto his ass, sure that she was about to lunge for his throat too. How had she reanimated before the others when she had been the last to die?

But as he prepared to defend himself against the reanimated corpse of the woman he had loved for the second time in his life, Negan noticed that she hadn’t moved toward him at all. He also realized that the eyes staring at him weren’t the opaque, milky colour of the dead, but the bright green of a very alive woman.

“Fuckface? Are you alive?” he asked, his voice coming out strangled and hoarse as Chris looked on in stunned silence.

“I killed him,” she said. Her voice was dull and far away, but her eyes rose slowly to meet Negan’s.

“I’ve never seen one of those dead fucks talk before, so I’ll take that as a ‘yes’ then,” he said before sitting up and moving closer to where she was to put his arms around her and push his face into her hair, inhaling deeply.

“Rebecca, are you hurt?” Chris asked, standing from his place beside Stephen’s body and moving toward the pair.

“Fucker stabbed me in the leg when I bit him…” she answered, still in a daze.

Negan looked down to see a deep gash that ran along her upper left thigh, oozing blood, “Fucking fuck! Chris, can you get a shirt out of that dresser behind you? Second drawer from the top.”

The other man did as he was asked, tossing a white shirt to Negan who proceeded to wrap it tightly against the wound, “Thanks. Be a dear and run to get Krouse for me, Christopher.”

“Sure thing,” Chris replied, walking hurriedly out of the room and turning in the direction of the infirmary.

Negan sat with Rebecca in his arms for a long time. His eyes were closed and his heart still raced with adrenaline. Once he had calmed down, he spoke to her: “I thought I lost you again…”

Rebecca didn’t answer immediately, but after a shaky inhale, she replied: “I thought you did too. When he attacked me, I didn’t think I’d make it. I was so weak from the beating and the drugs, and a part of me almost wanted to give up. But I just couldn’t bear to think of you finding me like that. After everything you’ve told me about Lucille and how she died. I knew I had to fight for you.”

“I’m glad you fought, Fuckface. I’m proud of you.”

“He was one of the men who attacked me before, wasn’t he?” she asked.

“Yeah. We’ve got the other one locked up in the basement with Julie,” Negan answered.

“Who is he? The other one?”

“Ted,” he said simply.

“Fucking Pencil-Dick? Didn’t think he had it in him…” Rebecca replied, sounding legitimately surprised.

“Yeah, well, it was definitely him. And he’s fucking proud of it too, the bastard.”

“I didn’t think I could kill someone, you know,” she blurted out suddenly, “I know I talked a big game about wanting to kill them before, but I wasn’t sure. Not until this asshole over here came at me,” she gestured toward Stephen’s body, “But I can. Not for no reason. But when I need to, I can do it.”

“What are you trying to say, Fuckface?”

“We have to kill them,” she looked up at him, her eyes shining with a mist of tears, “I don’t want to. But we have to. Right?”

He sighed and buried his face in her hair again, before mumbling into it, “Yeah. I think we fucking do.”

“Ok. Then I want to be the one to do it. And I want everyone to see it.”

“Rebecca…”

“It’s not your battle. It’s mine. And I should be the one to do it.”

“No,” he said firmly, “That shit is not happening. We’ll take them somewhere away from the Sanctuary and shoot them in the head. But no theatrics. No crowds. No brutality.”

“How are you going to deter others from trying this shit again then?” she asked sharply.

“Oh, everyone will know about it. We’ll have a town hall to announce their sentences before they’re carried out, and attendance will be mandatory. But I’m not bashing in brains anymore. And neither are you,” he tilted her face up so that he could look her in the eyes, “Go it?”

“Yeah. I got it. If you think that’s what’s best, then that’s what we’ll do,” she sighed, “I trust you to do the right thing for this community.”

“Thank you, Fuckface…” he leaned forward suddenly, as if propelled by an unseen force, to kiss her, first gently and then with a hunger that only comes from nearly losing someone that you love twice in as many days. He could taste Stephen’s blood still on her lips from where she had bitten him to save herself, but he didn’t care. Still pressing the fabric of his shirt against the wound on her leg, he allowed his free hand to stroke her hair and move down her body where it rested at her lower back.

Rebecca kissed him back with every bit as much passion, her body moving toward him and her hands finding their way to his chest. Eventually, they were locked in an embrace with her arms looped around his thick neck, and her nails lazily trailing through the hair at the nape of his neck, causing a shudder of pleasure to ripple through his body.

Flashing her devilish grin he asked, “Is it totally inappropriate for me to be getting hard right now?”

“Nah. Truth be told, my panties are totally soaked with more than just Stephen’s blood right now.”

“God-fucking-damn it. Way to kill my boner, Fuckface.”

“Oh, come on,” she smiled back, “If you’re really nice I’ll let you get to second base before Krouse makes it up here-“

As if summoned by her words, the door to the room burst open, sending the handle several inches into the plaster of the wall beside it. Krouse and Chris stood in the hallway, quickly making their entrance to check on the freshly injured woman.

“Jesus fucking Christ, Krouse! You didn’t have to break my door down and fuck the wall up. This isn’t fucking CSI: Apocalypse or some shit…” Negan growled at the man, his face showing his disdain.

“Oh! Sorry...I just- Chris told me it was an emergency. I came as fast as I could,” he knelt beside the couple, laying out a bag full of various medical supplies which included disinfectants and a needle for stitching wounds, “Can’t keep you out of trouble, can we, Rebecca?”

“No, I guess I just attract the bad boys, don’t I doctor?” she said, shooting a sly look at Negan out of the corner of her eye.

“That you fucking do. Gonna have to keep you under lock and key here soon,” Negan mumbled, still holding onto the small woman.

“Mind if I take a look at what’s going on under the shirt?” asked Krouse, ignoring the flirting taking place in front of his face.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” asked Negan, narrowing his eyes at the other man.

“The knife wound?” Krouse replied, “Under the shirt you’re holding on top of it?”

“Oh!” the large man replied, carefully removing the blood-soaked cloth from Rebecca’s leg, “I thought you were asking to see her titties or something…”

“What?! No! Jesus Christ, why would you think that?” Krouse asked with a horrified expression, before going in to inspect Rebecca’s leg. After a moment, he reached into the bag beside him for the disinfectant.

“What? You trying to say you don’t want to see my titties?” asked Rebecca with mock sadness, “You think I’m gross of something? Do I disgust you?”

“No…I’m just…trying to be professional…and…” the man trailed off in frustration as Rebecca burst into gales of laughter.

“Sorry, I think I’m still a little high from the morphine. Or in shock. I dunno. I’m just fucking with you, doctor,” she said breathlessly before taking a deep breath to calm her laughter, “I don’t know what Negan’s excuse is.”

“You know, I forget what that psychologist said the disorder was called…but the official name has at least five syllables,” Negan said earnestly before cracking a brilliant smile at the room.

“Yes, well, Rebecca’s going to be fine. He missed anything important or…uh…gushy. I’ll just get this cleaned up and she’ll need a few stitches…” Krouse said, evidently deciding to ignore Negan and Rebecca’s antics once and for all. Chris continued to watch the scene unfold, but looked away once the former paramedic brought out the needle to begin inserting the stitches.

Once her leg was stitched up, Rebecca smiled sweetly at Krouse from her position on the floor next to Negan, who had held her hand during the entire process, “Thank you for your help again, Doctor Krouse. And sorry for being awkward earlier. You really are a good doctor.”

“It’s no problem,” he said with a faint smile, “Now, you’ll need to get yourself cleaned up, but you can’t soak the stitches or get them wet at all for a few days, so you’ll need to…kind of…um…sponge bathe for a while, I guess.”

“I volunteer!” Negan said eagerly.

Rebecca gently slapped at his arm to quiet him down, “Yes, I’m sure they both know that you’ll help me out with that task, Negan.”

Krouse’s face remained expressionless at their conversation; he seemed to be completely over getting worked up at the couple by this point, “If you need anything else, let me know. I’ll be back to check on you tomorrow and make sure everything’s going well.”

Krouse turned to leave and Chris followed him into the hall, throwing a final comment over his shoulder at Negan and Rebecca as he left, “You guys get cleaned up. I’ll be back in a while for Stephen,” with that he closed the door, leaving the couple alone.

“Think you can get yourself up off the floor and into the bathroom?” Negan asked.

Rebecca shrugged slightly, “Won’t know until I try, so let’s find out.”

Propping an arm against the bed behind her, she pulled herself to her feet, bending over slightly for a moment before straightening her back, and taking a tentative step toward the bathroom’s door. She had to skirt around the pool of blood that had spread around Stephen’s body, and nearly tripped over her own feet.

“Shit! Careful, Fuckface…” Negan said, moving toward her to grab her arm.

“I’m fine. Just clumsy today,” she murmured, continuing her journey across the room.

“I need to go get us some water and another change of clothes for you since we’re running low on guards to do the running for us. Think you’ll be ok alone for a few minutes?”

“Yeah, I should be fine.”

Rebecca quietly opened the door to the bathroom and walked into the darkened room as Negan ran off to get the supplies needed to clean her up. The candles they had used earlier were dark, but still in their former positions around the room. Since there was nothing else to do but wait, she went to work re-lighting them, hobbling around the bathroom on her injured leg and cursing at how it impeded her progress.

Once the candles were lit, the room glowed with flickering orange light, making her feel safe and comfortable. It reminded her of a cabin she had stayed at with her parents back in Maine during a spring break many years prior to the outbreak. She had been a surly teenager at that time, and hadn’t wanted to leave her friends to spend “quality time” with her family. Looking back now, she cherished these memories of her mother and father, wishing that they were still alive to see the woman she had grown into.

With these thoughts in her mind, Rebecca limped over to the large mirror that hung against the room’s back wall, just behind the sink. She peeled the once-pristine white robe, now soaked in Stephen’s rapidly congealing blood, from her body and allowed it to fall to the floor with a wet plop.

Stepping closer to the mirror, her eyes travelled her own body, noting the many cuts and bruises from her beating. She met her own eyes in the mirror and almost didn’t recognize herself in the image reflected before her. The eyes will still their characteristic green, but there was something different about them. Some shine and life had left them. Her cheeks were hollow and her skin was far too pale, even in the warm candlelight.

Wrapping her arms around herself as a chill raced through her body, she turned from her reflection, and continued to wait for Negan to return. She decided that it would be better to stare at a white wall than to see herself looking so old and haggard in the mirror.

(better to ignore it all than to think too much about the shitty things that have happened…for now anyway…)

Fortunately, she didn’t have to wait much longer as the door to the bedroom sprang open and Negan entered with his arms full of washcloths, towels, clothing, and a large bucket of soapy water.

“Oh shit! You’ve already got the place lit up, I see. Nice fucking work!” he beamed at her, joining Rebecca in the bathroom.

“Had to do something other than just be useless and stand here, I guess,” she said nonchalantly.

“Heh. If it’s one thing you are not, Rebecca, it’s useless. Wait…did that make sense? I’m bad at negatives and double negatives and shit,” he paused, “What I mean to say is that you’re very useful, even when you’re hurt. Not too many ladies who could rip the throat out of some douchebag attacking them when they’re in the state you were in.”

“Well, thanks for that…” she trailed off as he approached her and placed the bucket next to them on the gleaming, tiled floor.

“You ready for your sponge bath, baby?” he asked with a smirk.

“I am so very fucking ready to not be covered in blood, yes!” she replied with an exasperated sigh.

“Let’s get you in the tub again then, dirty girl,” he said, offering her a large arm with which she could steady herself as she stepped over the high sides of the tub’s basin.

Once she was safely inside, the elevation of the tub bringing her up to eye-level with the large man, he bent over slightly to dip one of the wash clothes into the soapy water before bringing it up to Rebecca’s face and softly using it to clear away the blood that had encircled her mouth and spread down her neck and across her chest.

As the water slowly diluted and cleaned the blood away, causing it to flow down Rebecca’s body and into the basin below, she began to feel like a human again. It took a long while to completely clear her skin of the sticky substance, but Negan insisted on doing all of the cleaning himself; even the bits that she could easily have reached. He insisted that she not ruin the fantasy for him because cleaning her up was “kind of sexy”. After the task was finally finished, he passed her a towel and allowed her to blot away any remaining dampness from her skin.

“So, do you want the good news or the bad news first?” Negan asked as he moved toward a small pile of clothing he had brought with the towels and water.

“Hm. Let’s start bad and brighten up with good,” Rebecca replied thoughtfully.

“The bad news is that we are fresh out of fluffy robes.”

“Awe shit. That was really cozy too.”

“I know. Sorry, Fuckface. The good news is that I bought you these,” he beamed at her proudly as he produced a pair of stretchy leggings with a skull and crossbones motif checkering the black fabric.

“Oh my!” she gasped, before throwing her head back and laughing, “Those are amazingly silly, but they look comfy as hell.”

“I thought they were bad ass,” he said, pouting slightly at her comment about the leggings being silly.

“They most definitely are bad ass,” she said with a grin before putting her arms around his shoulders and planting a soft kiss on his lips, “Thank you, Negan. I’ll treasure them until my legs wear holes into the fabric of the inner thighs.”

“That’s more fucking like it,” he said slowly, his dark eyes meeting hers and refusing to move away.

Rebecca’s arms never wavered from their position around his neck as she pulled him toward her and pressed her lips to his, this time more passionately. As the kiss lingered, she allowed a low groan to emanate from deep within her body before pulling back slightly from him.

“I think before I put those leggings on, we should take a little trip to the bedroom. And you should get naked. And into the bed with me,” her grin spread further.

“Are you sure? You’re not too sore?”

“Oh, I’m sore, but I don’t give a flying fuck,” she said with a near-manic giggle, “I’ve almost died twice, and I want at least one more night with you before someone tries for round three.”

“Baby, that’s not gonna fucking happen. I won’t let anyone hurt you, Rebecca,” his eyes bore into hers with an intensity she had rarely seen from him, “But if you want to fuck anyway, I would be happy to fucking oblige.”

They made their way out of the bathroom, blowing out the candles on the way. As Rebecca bent over to snuff out one of the last flickering lights she felt Negan move behind her and caress her back and ass with a rough hand before lightly patting her there. She stood up and turned around, raising her face to his to look him in the eyes before taking his hand and leading him from the room and toward the bed.

Negan began to undress, stripping first the leather jacket from his body, and then the white t-shirt. Both ended up in a pile in the corner of the room. Next his belt came off, finally allowing him to hurriedly unbutton his pants and step out of them before kicking them over to the pile of discarded clothes.

“Someone’s in a hurry,” Rebecca said in a low voice, moving toward him until she stood with her body pressed against his in the middle of the room, “We can take our time, you know. We’ve got all the time we need. At least until Chris comes back to retrieve the body.”

“Yeah, I was trying to ignore Stephen.”

“Good call.”

She stood on her toes as he bent down to meet her in another kiss, this one even deeper than their previous ones. Her hands moved down his arms and to his chest as their lips parted and their tongues met along the border where her lips ended and his began to battle for dominance. Breaking off the kiss to trail her tongue across his neck and onto his shoulders, Rebecca reached down and allowed her hand to meet his cock, which was already hardened from just the sensation of her lips and tongue against his.

“Mmm. Oh my! Long time, no see, Negan’s penis!” she giggled.

“It’s been way to fucking long, I think,” he said before propelling himself forward, his lips crashing into hers again as he tried to lead her to lie down on the bed.

“Nuh-uh, Mister. You get on your back this time,” she said with a devious look in her eyes as she slowly spun him around so that his back was now to the bed before gently pushing him toward it.

Super Reload: Get the Bronze Master-At-Arms medal by getting a Bronze medal with all five starting weapons. Its effect is all perfect active reloads will greatly increase your weapon’s power and double its clip size.

Infinite Ammo: Get 100 Combat Engineer ribbons. Its effect is starter weapons and pistols never run out of ammo.

Big Explosions: Get 100 Hail Mary ribbons. Its effect is the radius of all explosions are increased to frightening proportions.

No Ammo Pickups: Unlocked from the beginning. Its effect is ammunition reserves have been exhausted. You must scavenge from weapons left on the battlefield.

Enemy Regeneration: Get the Silver Aficionado medal by playing “X” chapters in Arcade mode. Its effect is non-Lambent enemies regenerate health over time.

Vampire: Get 100 Executioner ribbons. Its effect is your health does not automatically regenerate, but every point of damage you deal will heal you.

Must Active Reload: Get the Silver Active Reloader medal by getting 2,500 Perfect Active Reloads. Its effect is every reload must be an active reload or your gun will jam.

Friendly Fire: Successfully complete the campaign in 4-Player Co-op. Its effect is your teammates are no longer protected from team fire.

Big Head: Get the Gold Horder medal by completing “X” waves in Horde mode. Its effect is everyone has their head (and other key features) inflated to comical proportions.

Pinata: Get the Gold Investor medal by earning “$X” in Beast mode. Its effect is special tokens drop from every kill; collect them to earn points.

Flower Blood: Get the Silver King Of COG medal by earning “X” points in Arcade mode. Its effect is all blood effects are replaced by pretty flowers.

Headless Chicken: Unlocked from the beginning. Its effect is enemies attack each other for several seconds after they lose their heads.

Part 23:  That the Hill You Wanna Die On?

The air of the Sanctuary’s basement was thick with moisture that clung to the skin and sank into one’s bones, while the smell of mold permeated the lungs. Chris led Negan through a labyrinth of dim hallways to the furthest corner of this area, where most of the building’s occupants did not dare to venture. Although it had been long since cleared of the dead, walking through the disused space made them feel on edge and in mortal danger somehow. It was here that Chris had taken Ted and Julie for their interrogation.

“Well, fuck, Christopher! That didn’t take you very long, did it?” inquired Negan, with an amused smirk.

It had only been two hours since he and Chris had last spoken when the stone-faced man knocked at his door for the second time that day. Negan has been vague with Rebecca about his reasons for leaving abruptly, not wanting to lie to her outright, but wanting to protect her from the knowledge of the task he was about to undertake for her. In the end, he had simply told her that he had “urgent leadership bullshit” to attend to. Technically, this was the truth.

“Nope,” Chris answered simply, “They weren’t exactly hiding.”

“Where’d you pick them up?”

“Ted was in the sorting room, trying to do some overtime for extra points. Julie was in her dorm room taking a nap.”

Negan snorted at this, “Fucking figures. Girl loves her beauty sleep.”

“Not that she needs it…”

“Christopher! Do I detect a little crush? Who knew you had fucking emotions under that hard veneer?”

“Uh…Not exactly,” Chris replied with an uncharacteristic tone of embarrassment.

“Oh come on! You can fucking tell me! We’re just a couple of guys hanging out. Talking about guy stuff,” he leaned in a bit closer as they continued to walk and strung an arm around Chris’ shoulders, “Want me to describe her tits to you? I’ll do it! She’s got these cute, little-“

“Negan, I’m gay,” Chris said dispassionately, cutting off the man’s lewd description.

“What? Seriously?” he asked, genuinely surprised.

“Yeah. Um…yep. Pretty gay.”

“Well, fuck! I had no idea,” he paused for a moment, “Are all of Rebecca’s friends gay? That girl’s like a magnet for you guys.”

Chris raised an eyebrow, “There are other gay people here?”

“Awe, shit man. You didn’t know?”

“Not at all. I tend not to be really forthcoming with that information. There’s not exactly anti-hate crime legislation in the post-apocalypse and you never know who might want to beat you up for being yourself,” he replied thoughtfully before adding, “Not to make light of getting beaten up. That wasn’t a jab about Rebecca.”

“I know you’re not that much of an asshole! But that’s totally fair. Maybe Rebecca can set you up on a date or something,” he said slyly, jabbing his elbow into Chris’ ribs a little bit too hard and causing the man to wince in pain, “Oh fuck! Sorry…I got carried away.”

“It’s ok. Here we are,” Chris lowered his voice as they neared windowless, industrial door that was flanked on both sides by armed men, “Julie’s in there. Ted is in another room just down the hall.”

“Shall we?” asked Negan

Chris extended one hand hand to grasp the door’s lever while he retrieved the key from his pocket with the other, “We shall.”

As the door creaked open, Negan’s eyes fell upon Julie, who was looking as beautiful as ever sitting on a chair behind a small white table, her eyes shooting burning daggers at both him and Chris.

“Julie. So good to see you again. How the fuck are ya?” he asked in a mocking tone as he and Chris took a seat in two chairs that had been placed on the other side of the table across from Julie.

“What the fuck do you think, Negan? Let me the fuck out of here! I haven’t done anything-“

“Jules, shut the fuck up,” his voice became a hard, blunt object, silencing her tirade, “And don’t fucking lie to me. We already know you got some guys to do your dirty work for you and beat the fuck out of Rebecca. So, let’s just cut to the chase: Who were the men that did it?”

“And why the fuck do you think you ‘know’ that I had anything to do with that dumb bitch getting beaten?”

Without saying anything, Negan stood and pushed his upper body forward while bringing both hands down onto the table’s top with a loud boom, before calmly and clearly articulating his next words while staring the redhead directly in the eyes, “Because the last thing that ‘dumb bitch’, as you call her, heard before she lost consciousness was that ‘Julie sends her regards’. I can’t think of too many other Julies here that would mean her harm, can you?...And while we’re talking about your stupid mistakes, maybe the next time you give a couple of drunks hand jobs so you can ask them to beat someone up so badly that they nearly fucking die, you’ll choose guys who aren’t fucking idiots that tell the victim THE FUCKING NAME OF THE PERSON WHO ASKED THEM TO DO IT AS THEY’RE BEATING HER INTO THE GROUND!”

Julie’s face had gone a bright, angry red and her lips were set in a straight line. She remained silent, still cutting into the men with her stare.

“You’re still not going to fucking talk are you?” Negan said with a twinge of regret in his voice.

“Fuck you, you fucking bastard! I didn’t do anything wrong! You were the one who fucking humiliated me. You were the one who used me to try to feel better about yourself. So fuck you. We’re done here,” she spat before crossing her arms across her chest and settling back into the seat.

“Well. I guess that answers that,” Negan sighed, running a hand through his hair, “But, even though you’re right about me being a bastard, you are wrong about one thing. This is far, far from over.”

With that, he turned to Chris and motioned for the other man to follow him into the hallway. They exited the room together, locking the door behind them before moving a few feet away and out of earshot.

“So, what do you think?” Chris asked.

Negan shook his head sadly, “I was afraid of this. Not only is she not admitting to planning the attack, but she’s not remorseful at all. Fucking psychotic bitch…”

“What does that mean?”

“I don’t know for sure…but I think we might have to kill her. And I really did not want to fucking do that shit anymore,” he moaned.

Chris nodded solemnly, “Do you think it’s worth it to talk to Ted before we make a final decision here?”

“Yeah, why the fuck not?” he mumbled and turned toward the second door that Chris had pointed out earlier. The two men strode silently toward the dull-grey metal currently hiding their second prisoner from sight, stopping for a brief moment as Chris found the corresponding key in his pocket. Once the lock had been clicked open, he pushed the door and gestured for Negan to enter first.

The room was every bit as musty and desolate as the rest of basement. Ted sat in the same position as Julie, only he had his head down on the table like a school-aged child during a detention. As they crossed the threshold, his head lifted slowly from its position and his desperate, half-crazed eyes bore into them.

“You’re here to kill me, aren’t you?” he said, not even blinking as they drew near to sit in the chairs across the table as they had with Julie.

“Well, Teddy, that all depends on how you answer a few questions for us,” Negan said flatly, “First of all-“

“Julie asked me to do it,” Ted said with a hysterical twinge to his voice, cutting off Negan’s leading question, “She cornered me in the cafeteria after she overheard me talking shit about that fucking girl. She knew that I hated you both for demoting me to a sorter.”

“Uh huh. And it sounds like she really had to twist your arm to get you to nearly kill ‘that fucking girl’ for her,” Negan’s face twisted into an expression of thinly veiled rage.

“I’m not making excuses. I know what I did was my own choice, and I don’t regret it,” Ted replied.

“You’re fucking sitting here, looking me straight in the eyes, and telling me that you don’t fucking regret nearly murdering a nice, young lady with her whole life ahead of her who never didn’t anything to you? That the hill you wanna die on, Teddy?” although his eyes still held fire and venom in their depths, Negan’s voice was eerily calm.

“Fuck you! She’s nothing but another one of your fucking whores. She fucking seduced you, let you fuck her, and used you to get back at me for disrespecting her.”

“Oh, that’s where you’re wrong, my friend. You couldn’t be more fucking wrong. All Rebecca did mention what a fucking shitty job you were doing in matching workers to tasks, and the rather un-fucking-enlightened attitude you have toward young women. But she didn’t have to seduce me. We weren’t even fucking by that point. Though, truth be told, I kinda wanted to right from day one…” he shook his head, “Why the fuck am I telling you that though. Like you give a fuck.”

“Who was with you?” Chris’ voice startled both men and they jerked their heads toward its sound, “When you beat Rebecca? Who helped you?”

“How the fuck do you know there were two people there?” asked Ted, an anxious expression clouding his face.

“Because Rebecca told us that one of you assholes held her while the other one beat her,” Negan chimed in, “Not a very fair fucking fight, if you ask me.”

Ted sighed, “Ok. I’ll tell you who was with me. But you’re not going to like it.”

“Oh goody! Fucking intrigue. How nice. Go on, Teddy,” Negan said mockingly.

“It was one of your men. One of your Saviors. I think he said his name was Stephen or something like that. I don’t fucking remember. Seems to me that he was still pretty fucking pissed off at you for something you did back in the day with his wife or something. You fucked her or killed her…or both…something like that. Anyway, he didn’t care about Rebecca at all. It was you he wanted to get to. She was just a stepping stone,” Ted’s face cracked with a hard smile and his eyes were glassy.

“Oh fucking fuck!” Negan pushed himself out of his seat abruptly, knocking over his chair, and made his way toward the door.

“What’s wrong?” asked Chris, following him into the hallway and locking the door behind him.

Negan broke into a run as he headed back toward his room, and Chris ran to catch up with him, “One of the men guarding my room this morning. I can’t be sure, but I think he said that his name was Stephen,” he huffed, “I hope I’m wrong, but if I’m not, Rebecca could be in some real fucking shit right now!”

As he and Chris raced through the hallways and stairwells of the Sanctuary that led to Rebecca, Negan noted the people they passed who turned to stare slack-jawed at them, never offering any kind of assistance to what was clearly some kind of emergency. On a normal day, this would have pissed him off, but he was far too panicked to do more than observe his surroundings as he made his way to what he was certain would be a blood bath.

As they mounted the final flight of stairs, the hallway outside of his bedroom coming into view with each step, the first thing Negan noticed was all of the blood. The second thing he noticed was the man lying dead on the floor. His throat had been slit, and it must have happened recently because he had not had the chance to reanimate yet.

“Oh fuck! Fuck!” he yelled, never breaking his stride as he skirted around the growing pool of blood and charging for his room, “Chris, knife him in the head before he comes back!”

Maybe he wasn’t too late. Maybe he could save her.

He arrived at the door, immediately grabbing for the handle and throwing his weight into it, only to be met with resistance. It was locked. As he fumbled in his pants pocket for the key, he listened for sounds of a struggle inside, and was met with nothing but ominous silence.

Once the door was unlocked, he threw it open and allowed his eyes to adjust to the darkness of the room. There was blood everywhere, the scent of copper hitting him like a slap in the face. All was still inside the room, and two bodies, each soaked in blood, were in the middle of the floor, just beyond the foot of the bed.

The man’s body lay face up, eyes staring in horror at the ceiling. Blood still bubbled from a large bite wound in his throat, just over the jugular. Negan recognized him immediately as Stephen, the man who he had sent on a quest to retrieve Chris earlier that morning, and who had allegedly helped Ted to attack Rebecca just a few days prior.

Negan’s heart leapt into his throat, he took a step toward the second body. This one was smaller, feminine, and was sitting cross-legged; the upper body slumped slightly over the legs with its arms resting against its thighs. Although the face was obscured by a curtain of dark hair that faded out to the copper of an autumn sunset at the tips, he knew that it was Rebecca.

“Negan, I’m so sorry,” Chris said softly from behind him, he knelt over Stephen’s body and pushed a knife into the center of the forehead, ensuring that it wouldn’t revive.

A cry caught in Negan’s throat and his eyes burned with tears as he crossed the room to kneel next to her. At least she had gone down fighting and had taken the son of a bitch out with her last ounce of strength. He would take what comfort he could in that fact.

She didn’t live as a victim, and she hadn’t died as one either. He extended a hand and gently pulled one side of the hair away from her face to take a look at the damage that had been inflicted on her during the attack.
