"ALL THERE: Now the Big Decisions Will Be Made," Montreal Star. August 18, 1943. Page 1. ---- Here's the scene at Quebec's Citadel, summer home of the Governor-General, as President Roosevelt arrived to send the historic conference of Anglo-Canadian-American political and military leaders into high gear. Mr. Roosevelt is in the closed car. Walking behind it are Premier Churchill and Premier King. In the honor guard are detachments of the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Marines, Canadian Army and R.C.A.F. The R.C.M.P. band from Ottawa is playing.

Some buildings and cannons. Martello Tower 2 and another canon. That paved walkway was once a ditch. A statue of Joan of Arc. More Plains of Abraham. The Joan of Arc garden and one last shot of the Plains and the Citadel at sunset

Odd question, but I'm traveling to Quebec City this week and was wondering if you had any recommendations in ur infinite Canadian wisdom (especially for food). No worries if you don't!
Ahhhhhh. So the last three times I was in Quebec City, I was an extremely broke student so forgive my poverty but most of the places I would recommend are like... not great. Think American dive bar but there's poutine and everyone's too drunk to speak English. Poutine is always good when you're drunk thooooo... Slightly nicer places... I guess off the top of my head, La Buche is always a favourite. My sister is very fond of their Sunday brunches when she lived there (she went into STEM and had money the lucky fuck.) Chez Boulay is really good also according to her. La Korrigan is a really good brewery and restaurant they are almost hyper seasonal so they might not have the cider on tap but if you can get that or the blueberry ale it it's just ridiculously good. I wish it was slightly later in the year then I would really encourage you to hit up the farmers markets. There's like a solid dozen of them but I don't know how many of them are open this early. I'm allergic to tomatoes but I would happily risk death for Quebec tomatoes. Sounds insane but I swear produce hits tastes different.
Beyond food ejiogoeijrg my recommendations usually fall flat because I have shit taste or niche interests. The citadel, the anthropology museum/civilization museum, the old city in general, the art museum, are all pretty well known. The falls are really pretty. The terrace is really pretty, there's some Russian war canons the British installed after the crimean war I could write a dissertation on. Just wandering around the old city can be one of the best things to do you can kind of wander into so much history. The Huron-Wendat Museum is INSANELY underrated. I am personally very fond of the the naval museum and l'îlot des palais but neither are the largest museums and the second one is kind of… basement-y. It's a lot of archaeology. I get very excited for 400 year old nails and hinges but I am a dork lmao.

Canada 2023
11/9/23
Our time in Canada is drawing to a close as we spent our penultimate day in Quebec.
We started with a guided tour of the Citadel which is steeped in British, French, and Canadian history. It also afforded great views of the old city and the St Lawrence River.
We then had a bit of a rush down the hill to board a boat for a 90 min cruise on the river. Weather was really kind and enjoyed thoroughly relaxing time having bit of lunch whilst watching the ever changing scenery including a waterfall.
Before getting the bus back to the hotel we briefly visited the Anglican Cathedral followed by dinner in the old city.
Quebec City is a really interesting place with plenty to do and see - but is it hilly! The funicular helps a lot but still plenty of stairs and slopes to climb!

Attention! I have taken the Citadel du Quebec and am holding the city hostage. My demands are as follows: a cappuccino glace and a chocolatine every hour on the hour.

View of the Château Frontenac hotel from the Citadelle and from Place d’armes, and the ramparts surrounding the old city.
The ramparts surrounding Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) are the only fortified city walls remaining in the Americas north of Mexico. This area was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the "Historic District of Old Québec"

Just some pics from across Canada 🇨🇦
Most of these pics were taken by my passenger, so they may be a bit blurry. Didn’t manage to take any pics in BC because we were in a hurry to get out of there 😅 Anyways...
Here are some from Alberta
The Rockies 😍

I don’t have any pics during Alberta’s sunrise, but I can tell you that it was stunning! Highly recommend listening to the Stardew Valley OST while driving through Alberta lol
Saskatchewan & Manitoba
I would’ve uploaded more pics but these two provinces look pretty similar to one another 😅 These fields go on for miles and miles

Ontario

I do have some more pics but Tumblr won’t let me upload them 😤 If we had more time for sightseeing, I would’ve taken more photos. We did pass through downtown Ottawa, but the traffic was INSANE 🥲
Tumblr media
There are no photos (besides the one above) of Quebec unfortunately as we were trying to get through morning rush hour. Driving through the city parts of Quebec was a nightmare 😭 The more rural parts are super pretty, though. Fun fact about this province is that Lucien’s Autumn Blaze Date took place in it. Canyon Sainte-Anne and the Citadelle de Quebec, to be more specific. If you plan to visit, make sure you know some of the French basics because nearly everything and everywhere is French.
New Brunswick: My New Home 🤩

These pics were taken on a ferry to get to the peninsula over. We weren’t allowed out of the car to take pictures, so apologies for the quality
Prince Edward Island
These were taken as we were passing over Confederation Bridge, the world’s longest bridge crossing ice-covered water.

PEI is gorgeous!! However, if you do plan on driving through during the summer, be prepared for major traffic 🥲
And here’s a special pic of Joey grabbing his morning Double Double from Timmy’s 😆

We did a full circle and went to check the Citadel . They were closed so we left and returned to the car to relax before tackling more of the Plains of Abraham
