So, here is my take on Ash's relationships with his traveling companions.

Misty: I don't ship them, but I do think that they have a really strong bond!! I actually headcanon that Ash didn't really enjoy Misty's company untill they parted ways, and that's when he started to miss her. It could go the other way around too. Unfortunately, this relationship is faltered by the fact that Misty and Ash clearly didn't like each other in the beginning and said some pretty nasty things to each other. To end on a positive note, pokeshipping is not my favorite, but I think Ash and Misty will always have a strong relationship with each other!!

Brock: I think Brock and Ash have a pretty good relationship, kinda like Brotp except for the fact that I don't ship them romantically. I think Brock was necessary for Ash's growth and I think Ash's company softened Brock up, he became nicer in other words. They are close friends and nothing more or less. Brock is an excellent older brother figure to Ash and he has been with Ash the longest out of his traveling companions so that also earns their relationship points.

Tracey: Yeah, this might be controversial but I think Tracey was the third wheel in Orange Islands. He practically invited himself into the group and Ash and Misty could both be pretty rude to him at times. Tracey and Ash are friends no doubt, but I wouldn't say that they are super close or anything.

May: So I think May and Ash helped each other out a lot but I don't think Ash is the closest to May because if I remember correctly, he was rude to her a lot of the time, they also don't have much in common, Ash is into battling and May likes shopping and contests. So yeah, I obviously don't ship them, Contestshipping is clearly superior!! I think Ash and May are good friends, especially after Ash mellowed out, but I think Ash has a closer connection with some of his other companions.

Max: I am not going to say that these two have a super strong bond or anything but I do think they bonded somewhat over the fact that they aren't into the the girly things that May is lol. Also, Max is a few years younger than Ash so the age gap kinda prevents a close bond from happening. Still, I think Ash and Max are friends regardless and always will be.

Dawn: She and Ash are besties!! There, I said it. I don't ship them since I'm more of a Dawn x Zoey person but I love these two as friends. Who could forget their iconic high-five and these two serve as great protagonists for DP. I love how much these two work off one another, they give sibling energy for real.

Iris: Speaking of sibling energy, Iris is like the twin sister Ash never had!! Iris is also the only female traveling companion that I ship Ash with romantically. I will argue that Iris is one of Ash's closest friends. They also work so well because they are exactly alike in terms of personality. They are both hyper, stubborn, love food, and care for their friends and pokemon deeply. And who could forget that one episode where they went sightseeing in Nimbasa city together. I love the duo of Ash and Iris and I wish people would stop undermining their relationship.

Cilan: So, Cilan tended to act like a father figure to both Ash and Iris. Sometimes, I tend to get the impression that Cilan was like the "Tracey" of the BW Trio, However to a MUCH lesser extent. Since Cilan at least had a lot of nice and heartwarming moments with Ash and Iris both individually and together. It's pretty obvious how much Cilan cares for Ash and Iris since he is always super sweet and patient with them. Ash along with Iris looks up to him for advice and guidance and he also admires Cilan's cooking. The only thing holding Ash and Cilan back from being super close is that Ash and Iris seem closer to each other, both in age and personality. Regardless, Cilan and Ash are still good friends and I think they always will be.

Clemont: If there was a male companion that I would ship Ash with romantically, it would have to be Clemont. Diodeshipping for life!! Ash and Clemont have been spotted touching each other several times, like putting their arms around each other while walking. It's also no surprise that Ash admires Clemonts inventions and Gadgets more than anyone else hence "Science is so amazing!!" Clemont and Ash also have never argued, at least to my knowledge. To conclude, I think Clemont is the closest to Ash out of the male traveling companions, Probably tied with Goh.

Bonnie: Unfortunately unlike her brother, I think Ash and Bonnie have the least amount of connection out of his traveling companions. (Besides maybe Chloe, but I don't count her as a companion and I haven't seen JN) I say this because I don't remember any significant interactions between Ash and Bonnie. But on the bright side, it's not like Bonnie and Ash truly need each other since Bonnie has both her older brother and Serena (who she has a much stronger bond with) to look out for her.

Serena: Alright.... These two are friends and nothing more. Yes, Serena has a crush on Ash, but Ash clearly doesn't feel the same way about her. If these two ever got together, their relationship would probably only last a few years max since they both have entirely separate interests and goals. I would even go and say that Serena and Ash have the least amount in common out of the traveling companions. Ash and Serena did help each other out a lot, but I think at most, they are good friends. Sorry Amourshippers.

So I am not fully done with my binge watch of Sun and Moon, but when I am done, I will make a separate post like this for the SuMo companions.

hi I am just curious. isn't negaishipping kinda like pokeshipping 2? I mean ash and misty already fulfills the "bickering couple trope". ash and iris is like a copy of that, so there is not much point in shipping negaishipping?

Iris and Misty are two completely different characters, despite them having similarities! The same goes with their respective dynamic with Ash.

Saying it's pointless to ship Negai because Poke exist is like saying:

It's pointless to ship P3arlshipping, because Adv4nceshipping already has the coordinator x pokemon trainer ship

It's pointless to ship Am0urshipping, because Angie, Anabel and Macy are already girls who canonically crushes on Ash

It's pointless to ship J0urneyshipping, because Ash already has a close bond with Clemont, Ritchie etc.

I've already analyzed Negaishipping and given reasons why I ship them. You can look for those posts if you want to. But more importantly, I ship just for fun, it's not serious.

Ash and Iris are two silly champions who adore pokemon, battling, food, travelling and doing things in their own (nontraditional) ways. They are soulmates ❤️

How I imagine Ash’s relationship with his friends to be(Part 1):

Ash, brock & misty are the og trio: There’s no way that brock and misty don’t hold a very special place in Ash’s heart. Ash knows he wasn’t the most likeable child but his journeys with the two of them transformed him into the Ash he is now. Whenever Ash sees rock themed stuff or unique cooking utensils, his mind immediately goes to brock. Same with water themed shit and bug pokemon. He talks with them quite regularly and the group chat they have is complete chaos. Brock is Ash’s big brother. He’s the first one Ash turns to for comfort. Misty and Ash start bickering, bantering and making fun of each other within 2 minutes of talking, but know that the other would wholeheartedly back them up no questions asked. 

Ash and Gary are the ultimate besties: They grew up together and were there for each other during the hardest parts of their lives - Ash’s father leaving and Gary’s parents dying. They motivate each other to be the best versions of themselves that they can be. In my ideal world, Ash and Gary did not have quite a big falling out as shown in the show because they talked things out and didn’t let any misunderstandings get in the way of the special bond they have. Although they act quite gay for each other, their relationship is 100% platonic (I personally love ash x gary however their friendship dynamic where everybody thinks they’re dating but they’re actually not and don’t ever plan to be is my fav). Ash is the one who helped Gary realise that researching was the path for him. 

Ash, Max and Bonnie: Max and Bonnie are the little siblings that he never had. He loves them to pieces and even if they can get a little annoying sometimes, he wouldn’t change it for the world. Whenever he sees anything that he thinks Max would like, he buys it without hesitation and mails it over. Same goes for bonnie. Both May and Clemont are completely exasperated because their respective siblings keep flexing whatever Ash has gotten for them. 

Ash & May are the gremlin twins: Brock had quite the time with these two. He thought that no-one could surpass the trouble that Ash and Misty gave him but he was wrong. Those two would get too caught up in arguing with each other, but these two were on the same wavelength. Sure they had a few disputes but most of the time they got along like a house on fire. They managed to get themselves into all sorts of crazy situations. Max and Brock would have to work together to manage whatever shenanigans they got upto. Ash is insufferable in shipping May and drew. He teases her and mocks her and writes cringy fanfictions about the two of them so he could embarrass her. 

They always practice battling together so they can refine their needed skills (contest flair for may and speed and precision for Ash). When the two of them get together, they can eat anyone out of house and home.

For those who are confused as to why Serena is a meowth, The reason is that this is also an au of my team Rocket Serena au in this au Serena joins team Rocket and stays with them until Ash saves Pikachu from falling which makes Serena have second thoughts on joining team rocket so she decides to leave them and go on her own journey and to follow Ash, Clemont and Bonnie and once she does catch up to them ash doesn’t trust her Until she gives him his handkerchief back Which reminds him of all of their memories they had together in Professor Oak’s summer camp and then she joins them And everything goes same as usual except she has a Meowth Who is friends with Pikachu and anything that happens after a Kalos it’s completely different so wait for a post on that, please

Okay, I’m finally posting the mesafanshipping story I promised almost two months ago!!!! Let me know if y’all want to see more, and/or you want to see more pokeshipping stories!!!! Hope y’all like it!!!

Clemont was working on one of his many new inventions when he heard a loud noise coming from his girlfriends home office, “everything alright Misty?” He called sympathetically. “No! I don’t know what the hell is wrong with this damn computer!” The redhead Kanto elite four member exclaimed. “Can you please come upstairs and help me?” She asked after a few moments, “be right there!” Clemont responded and quickly tidied up his “small” mess. He gingerly walked into her office to find her sitting on her chair facing him, arms crossed, and her foot tapping against the hard wood floor.

Before he had a chance to speak, “I don’t know what’s going on with this thing, you’re the computer guy!” Misty turned back to face her desk, “well, yeah, but I’m your computer guy!” The blonde inventor responded in a moment of boldness, “Clemont, please, not right now.” Misty grit her teeth to stifle a laugh. “You’re right, I’m sorry Misty, let me see how I can help.” He put his hand on her shoulder and offered a small smile, Misty sighed and nodded as she let her boyfriend sit down next to her. “Ok, so, I’m going to ask you some questions, alright?” He said as he settled into the chair next to his girlfriend. She sighed but nodded. “Alright then! When did you start having issues?” He asked. “Well, the actual writing of my report is done, I finished it this afternoon, and before you ask, yes, I made sure I saved it, multiple times.” She took a sip of water and continued, “But after coming back from my workout, I went back into the file folder and there were no documents in there!” She grabbed her water bottle and slumped back into her chair.

“Hmm, that is odd, did you try restarting the computer?” She nodded, “no change.” She replied. “Would you mind if we traded seats real quick so I can run some tests?” Clemont asked, “sure thing, I’m actually going to go refill my water bottle, be right back.” Misty got up and walked out of the office. Clemont set to work immediately, first, he opened a program that would search all the file systems to see if maybe it had gotten saved to a different location, no luck. Misty walked back in not much later after that, and took the empty chair next to him. She watched her boyfriend type in command after command into the system, but nothing was working. Eventually, Clemont sat back in her chair and just scratched his chin.

Just then, there was a buzz on his phone, a message bubble that read: “remember to unhide the files!!!” Clemont started laughing out loud, “What’s so funny, Clemont?” Misty growled. “I’m sorry Misty! I forgot to tell you that I had to run some maintenance on the server, and I also forgot to mention that it had to hide confidential files, your reports to the league being one of them!” as he turned to remote login to his server, he felt her arms slink around his shoulders and her lips against his cheek. His face turned bright red and he started sputtering, Misty giggled and helped him stand up for a hug, “Clemont, I’m sorry for yelling at you, and I know you probably had a good reason for doing that thing with your server,” Clemont wrapped his arms around her waist, and relaxed with a content sigh. “But, next time, could you please give me a little heads up?” She asked and gently grabbed his butt, he was surprised by her action, but knew she was teasing him. “I promise I’ll let you know!” He decided to make another bold move and with an even gentler hand, grabbed her butt. “Oh Clemont!” She squealed. And they both started laughing. “All right, mister, I’ve got to send out my report, but I’m free after that!” Misty moved a strand of her boyfriend’s blonde hair away from his eyes, and he smiled back at her and kissed her lips, Misty giggled into the kiss and cupped his cheeks with her hands, Clemont’s own hands were still around her waist, the two made out for at least another minute, and then finally broke apart for air, “I’ll go get started on dinner, Misty, and you’ll have a glass of wine ready for you!” He said as he gave her one last kiss on her lips. ‘Arceus, he really knows how to spoil a girl!’ Misty thought to herself. She sat back down, and low and behold, “Clemont! The server?” She heard him laugh, “coming dear! Let me grab my laptop!”

Definitely want a valentine type of au with these two. I need Ash to blind date his whole harem and just find out it was none of them. 

- With Lilli, it would definitely be very awkward as he did not even know she had a crush on him until then. Going on the date would be very much him acting like her older brother and it would just rub her in the wrong way.

- With Clemont, it would be a pretty good time. It would be surprising to Ash at first that Clemont would come out to him as bisexual, but it would not make Ash treat him differently. It would be a lot of Clemont trying to be a gentlemen and Ash just being flustered over it.

- With Goh, it would be just a one time thing. it’s just an experiment and would be a wild chase of something cool like a case or a mystery. In the end, they just agree to be friends.

- With Paul, it would be very stiff as none of them have real experience dating other men and it would be a lot of Ash trying to drive the conversation. They would just go out for coffee and that is it.

- With Dawn, it would be a ticket to a contest. She really wanted to go and Ash happened to want to go on a date with her. It would be something cool, but it is not something Ash really into as he is more into battles.

- With May, it would be super relaxing and fun. It would be an aquarium date like in the manaphy movie and be super nostalgic. I think it would be cute overall. 

- With Misty, it would be a really active type of thing. They would probably have a sporty date where they surf together or go swimming. I imagine they would fight quite a bit, but it would be just an enjoyable evening. 

- With Gary, it would be super fun. They both would both do something they love together and that would be skating. They’re both into skateboarding of some sorts and racing, so maybe a skate date would translate into that. It would be really cute.

- With Serena, it would be amazing. She really wanted a partner to do ballroom dancing with and he just so happens to be there to help her. There is a costume party afterwards that they would attend together and it’s just a magical night.

- With Angie, it would be the best in all aspects. Watching a pokemon match is just something simple he loves. He doesn’t care about impressing, but just sharing something that he loves with someone he likes.

I am feeling very humanitarian after listening to Send it On on loop- so I'll add some headcanons to my Older!Pokeani cast verse, charity edition.

Ok so, Ash and his friends are obviously good people that care about others that aren't themselves and their careers. While the pokemon world is meant to be an Utopy stuff like pollution, natural disasters and shit clearly exists (and can have even faster consequences that irl, an UB literally destroyed Alt. Alola because of pollution) and like, there are maniacs with powerful pokemon trying to take over the world every week so- I am sure that leaves a few side victims- pokemon still get abused and-or abandoned.....it's not that much of a utopy actually- anyways! this is what our not-anymore kids do to make their world a bit better:

-Charity tournaments and presentations. This one is a non-brainer, in JNs they mention the tickets for the M8 ARE costy, so I can totally see Ash, Iris, Dawn, May and Serena and their other famous friends organize this kind of events where people obviously pay to see them do their shit, and the revenue goes to different charities- sighting autoghraphts, taking pics, and stuff.

-Misty and Lana have their own project of cleaning seas all across the world, beaches and overall helping water pokemon affected by pollution. Tracey, Daisy, Kiawe and obviously Ash often help on their little missions of making sure the Seals aren't choking- and threaten whoever does say pollution.

-Mallow started her own project with Brock, every weekend going to X region and making a shit ton of delicious meals that they can give to people in need, are way more active on natural disasters like earthquakes and stuff, for obvious reasons. In those more extreme cases, they call for help so Brock can focus on the medical part and Mallow doesn't die in the kitchen.

-Iris founded her own Dragon Pokemon Sanctuary. Due to their rareness and power they tend to be hunted more and some species had become dangerously close to extinction before- so she made an safe place for them in every known region, with the help of her friends in the village, Cilan, Bianca, Cynthia and Lance. Most the money her events make (see first point) goes to these places.

-Shortly after the Kalos crisis, a huge depression hit the region as it's inhabitants became paranoid of another psycho attending against their lives and homes again- the number of trainers decreased as their parents became overprotective of them, hence Clemont decided to start his own project to cheer them out- toys, as therapy. They were such a success he expanded to other regions as well. Hey They helped his own sister grow up to be a functional teenager!

-Serena occasionally goes to hospitals and orphanages to cheer the children out, she founded her version of "Make a Wish"; where terminally ill children send her a note and she gets in contact with whoever is their favorite trainer to pay them a visit, watch them battle, etc you get the gist. When she is old enough to travel on her own, Bonnie helps her out.

-Dawn does something similar, but focuses more on geriatrics. Don't ask me why I just see it.

-Lillie financiate most of these projects lmao her friends became rich too but considering they have zero reservations they STILL need some of her fortune lmao not that she minds ofc. She also occasionally reads to the kids.

-Ash is the definition of chaotic good. After noticing that he, in fact, can't adopt all the abandoned-abused pokemon of the world (much to his disappointment) he did 3 things with his great income: 1. Take his mom out for dinner 2. Build up an Shelter and 3. An Santuary. The Shelter is for abandoned pokemon that CAN'T live on their own, there they receive medical and psychological help they need (Ash is bestie with lots of scientifics) and are given to an worthy trainer. The Santuary is for pokemon that were hurt by hunters. There they recover and are freed on a safer zone later on....if any of them can't go back to the wild, they just go to Ash personally, or whoever is taking care of them.
