Clinton’s Walk for Justice
I haven’t heard a lot about this man outside of Australia so I thought I’d make a post because he’s someone I admire.
In March 2015 Colin Barnett announced that the West Australian government would be closing down 150 communities that they considered unsustainable. Keep in mind land is such a fundamental part of Aboriginal Culture and is connected to the identity of the people. As many of us know land in any culture is a very important part of who we are and how we identify ourselves. My Aunty would always tell me “they could kick me out of Australia and then I’d move back to New Zealand, and if they’d kick me out there I’ll go back to Samoa then no one can kick me out. Indigenous people don’t have that”.
So closing these communities is a form of modern-day genocide.
This man’s name is Clinton Pryor and he started walking September last year  across Australia from Perth to Canberra to meet up with prime minister Turnbull to discuss the closure of communities and Indigenous concerns. That’s 3088km, 1919 miles if your American. To give some perspective it’s like walking from London to Moscow + 400 miles. But even then that isn’t even the actual length because as you see on the map above he’s taking detours to Aboriginal Communities to hold discussions. No major news outlets have even picked up on the story ( I think I saw a short segment on SBS) and they are using money that’s being donated to fund the walk. So if you can please support Clintons walk for justice by donating or follow him on Facebook. The larger the public backing of  the walk the stronger the influence he will exert Canberra. It’s about time these ministers are held accountable. So all support is appreciated. If your from outside Australia even better! Send a letter of support do what you can. Thanks for reading hope you all have a good day!

Hello, darling.
I appreciate the help that both you and the X-Force Team will provide tonight during the Gala to keep the event secure and safe. The oldest living American, Lawrence Brooks, died yesterday at the age of one hundred and twelve. The above photo was taken in 1941, when he was already 32 years old and freshly drafted into the second world war.
It’s crazy to think how much he must have seen in a single lifetime, from silent movies to the first talkies; from black & white to colour film, sci-fi and CGI; from the first radio broadcasts to television and home video and now YouTube videos; from 78rpm shellac records to vinyl albums, cassettes, compact discs, mp3 players and iPhones; from the very first jazz recording to the birth of rock and roll: the first television appearances of Little Richard, Elvis Presley and the Beatles; the invention of soul, funk, disco, heavy metal, punk, goth, electronic synthesizers, samplers, hip hop, grunge, protools and the autotune; the invention of LSD, crack cocaine, MDMA, Prozac and Viagra; from the great depression to Hiroshima, Vietnam, the moon landings, McCarthyism, the entire rise and fall of the Soviet Union, all the way up to 9/11 and the present age of perpetual Islamic terror attacks and the Wuhan flu. From Woodrow Wilson and Calvin Coolidge to Herbert Hoover and FDR, from Truman and Eisenhower to JFK, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden. From Jim Crow laws to civil rights, the first black president and BLM riots. From the Lady Chatterley’s Lover censorship trial, Howl, Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor to wokeness, political correctness and cancel culture. All the above was contained within the life of a single man.
And someone was born this very day who will live just as long and see just as much presently unimaginable innovation and insanity.

Eazy-E
Tumblr media
Eric Lynn Wright (September 7, 1964 – March 26, 1995), known professionally as Eazy-E, was an American rapper and rap mogul who propelled West Coast rap and gangsta rap by leading the group N.W.A and its label, Ruthless Records, pushing the boundaries of lyrical content.
Born and raised in Compton, a small yet violent city near Los Angeles, Wright had several legal troubles before founding Ruthless in 1987. After a short solo career with frequent collaboration with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, they joined, forming N.W.A, later that year.
N.W.A's debut studio album, Straight Outta Compton, released in 1988, highly controversial then, is now ranked among the greatest and most influential albums. The group released its third and final studio album, Niggaz4Life, in 1991, and soon disbanded.
During N.W.A's splintering, largely by disputes over money, Eazy-E became embroiled in bitter rivalries with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who had departed for solo careers in 1989 and 1991, respectively. Resuming his sole career, Eazy-E released two EPs.
Yet Wright remained more significant behind the scenes, signing and nationally debuting the rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony from 1993 to 1994. But in 1995, suddenly hospitalized and diagnosed with AIDS, Wright died through its complications.
Early life and Ruthless Records investment
Eric Wright was born to Richard and Kathie Wright on September 7, 1964, in Compton, California, a Los Angeles suburb noted for high crime rates and gang culture. His father was a postal worker and his mother was a grade-school administrator. Wright dropped out of high school in the tenth grade, but later received a general equivalency diploma (GED).
Wright supported himself mainly by selling drugs, and introduced his cousin to the illicit occupation. Wright's music manager Jerry Heller recalls seeing Wright selling marijuana, but not cocaine. Heller would claim that Wright's "dope dealer" label was part of his "self-forged armor". Wright was also labeled as a "thug". Heller explains: "The hood where he grew up was a dangerous place. He was a small guy. 'Thug' was a role that was widely understood on the street; it gave you a certain level of protection in the sense that people hesitated to fuck with you. Likewise, 'dope dealer' was a role that accorded you certain privileges and respect."
In 1986, at age 22, Wright had allegedly earned as much as US$250,000 from dealing drugs. However, after his cousin was shot and killed, he decided that he could make a better living in the Los Angeles hip hop scene, which was growing rapidly in popularity. He started recording songs during the mid-1980s in his parents' garage.
The original idea for Ruthless Records came when Wright asked Heller to go into business with him. Wright suggested a half-ownership company, but it was later decided that Wright would get eighty percent of the company's income and Heller would only get twenty percent. According to Heller, he told Wright, "Every dollar comes into Ruthless, I take twenty cents. That's industry standard for a manager of my caliber. I take twenty, you take eighty percent. I am responsible for my expenses and you're responsible for yours. You own the company. I work for you." Along with Heller, Wright invested much of his money into Ruthless Records. Heller claims that he invested the first $250,000 and would eventually put up to $1,000,000 into the company.
Musical career
N.W.A and Eazy-Duz-It (1986–1991)
N.W.A's original lineup consisted of Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube. DJ Yella and MC Ren joined later. The compilation album N.W.A. and the Posse was released on November 6, 1987, and would go on to be certified Gold in the United States. The album featured material previously released as singles on the Macola Records label, which was responsible for distributing the releases by N.W.A and other artists like the Fila Fresh Crew, a West Coast rap group originally based in Dallas, Texas.
Eazy-E's debut album, Eazy-Duz-It, was released on September 16, 1988, and featured twelve tracks. It was labeled as West Coast hip hop, gangsta rap and, later, as golden age hip hop. It has sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States and reached number forty-one on the Billboard 200. The album was produced by Dr. Dre and DJ Yella and largely written by MC Ren, Ice Cube and The D.O.C.. Both Glen Boyd from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and MTV's Jon Wiederhorn claimed that Eazy-Duz-It "paved the way" for N.W.A's most controversial album, Straight Outta Compton. Wright's only solo in the album was a remix of the song "8 Ball", which originally appeared on N.W.A. and the Posse. The album featured Wright's writing and performing; he performed on seven songs and helped write four songs.
Ice Cube left N.W.A in 1989 because of internal disputes and the group continued as a four-piece ensemble. N.W.A released 100 Miles and Runnin' in 1990 and Niggaz4Life in 1991. A diss war started between N.W.A and Ice Cube when "100 Miles and Runnin'" and "Real Niggaz" were released. Ice Cube responded with "No Vaseline" on Death Certificate. Wright performed on seven of the eighteen songs on Niggaz4Life. In March 1991 Wright accepted an invitation to a lunch benefiting the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle, hosted by then-U.S. President George H. W. Bush. A spokesman for the rapper said that Eazy-E supported Bush because of his performance in the Persian Gulf War.
End of N.W.A and feud with Dr. Dre (1991–1994)
N.W.A began to split up after Jerry Heller became the band's manager. Dr. Dre recalls: "The split came when Jerry Heller got involved. He played the divide and conquer game. Instead of taking care of everybody, he picked one nigga to take care of and that was Eazy. And Eazy was like, 'I'm taken care of, so fuck it'." Dr. Dre and The D.O.C. sent Suge Knight to look into Eazy-E's financial situation as they began to grow suspicious of Eazy-E and Jerry Heller. Dr. Dre and The D.O.C. asked Eazy-E to release him from Ruthless, but Eazy-E refused. The impasse led to what reportedly transpired between Suge Knight and Eazy-E at the recording studio where Niggaz4life was recorded. After he refused to release Dr. Dre and The D.O.C., Suge Knight told Eazy-E that he had kidnapped Jerry Heller and was holding him prisoner in a van. This did not convince Eazy-E to release Dr. Dre and The D.O.C. from Ruthless, and Suge Knight threatened Eazy-E's family: Suge Knight gave Eazy-E a piece of paper that contained Eazy's mother's address, telling him, "I know where your mama stays." Eazy-E finally signed Dr. Dre and The D.O.C.'s releases, officially ending N.W.A.
The feud with Dr. Dre continued after a track on Dre's debut album The Chronic, "Fuck wit Dre Day (And Everybody's Celebratin')", contained lyrics that insulted Eazy-E. Eazy responded with the EP, It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, featuring the tracks "Real Muthaphuckkin G's" and "It's On". The album, which was released on October 25, 1993, contains pictures of Dre wearing "lacy outfits and makeup" when he was a member of the Electro-hop World Class Wreckin' Cru.
Personal life
Wright had a son, Eric Darnell Wright (known as Lil Eazy-E), in 1984. He also had a daughter named Erin who has legally changed her name to Ebie In October 2016 she launched a crowd-funding campaign to produce a film called Ruthless Scandal: No More Lies to investigate her father's death. It ended unsuccessfully in December 2016.
Wright met Tomica Woods at a Los Angeles nightclub in 1991 and they married in 1995, twelve days before his death. They had a son named Dominick and a daughter named Daijah (born six months after Wright's death). After Wright's death, Ruthless was taken over by his wife. According to Jerry Heller, Wright had 11 children with eight different women.
Illness and death
On February 24, 1995, Wright was admitted to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with a violent cough. He was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. He announced his illness in a public statement on March 16, 1995. It is believed Wright contracted the infection from a sexual partner.During the week of March 20, having already made amends with Ice Cube, he drafted a final message to his fans. On March 26, 1995, Eazy-E died from complications of AIDS, one month after his diagnosis. He was 30 years old (most reports at the time said he was 31 due to the falsification of his date of birth by one year). He was buried on April 7, 1995, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. Over 3,000 people attended his funeral, including Jerry Heller and DJ Yella. He was buried in a gold casket, and was dressed in a flannel shirt, jeans, and his Compton hat. On January 30, 1996, ten months after Eazy-E's death, his final album, Str8 off tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton was released.
According to his son Lil Eazy-E, Eazy-E was worth an estimated USD$50 million at the time of his death.
Musical influences and style
Allmusic cites Eazy-E's influences as Ice-T, Redd Foxx, King Tee, Bootsy Collins, Run–D.M.C., Richard Pryor, Egyptian Lover, Schoolly D, Too $hort, Prince, the Sugarhill Gang and George Clinton. In the documentary The Life and Timez of Eric Wright, Eazy-E mentions collaborating with many of his influences.
When reviewing Str8 off tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton, Stephen Thomas Erlewine noted "... Eazy-E sounds revitalized, but the music simply isn't imaginative. Instead of pushing forward and creating a distinctive style, it treads over familiar gangsta territory, complete with bottomless bass, whining synthesizers, and meaningless boasts." When reviewing Eazy-Duz-It, Jason Birchmeier of Allmusic said, "In terms of production, Dr. Dre and Yella meld together P-Funk, Def Jam-style hip-hop and the leftover electro sounds of mid-'80s Los Angeles, creating a dense, funky, and thoroughly unique style of their own." Birchmeier described Eazy-E's style as "dense, unique and funky", and said that it sounded "absolutely revolutionary in 1988".
Several members of N.W.A wrote lyrics for Eazy-Duz-It: Ice Cube, The D.O.C. and MC Ren. The EP 5150: Home 4 tha Sick features a song written by Naughty By Nature. The track "Merry Muthaphuckkin' Xmas" features Menajahtwa, Buckwheat, and Atban Klann as guest vocalists, and "Neighborhood Sniper" features Kokane as a guest vocalist. It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa features several guest vocalists, including Gangsta Dresta, B.G. Knocc Out. Kokane, Cold 187um, Rhythum D, and Dirty Red. Str8 off tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton featured several guest vocalists, including B.G. Knocc Out, Gangsta Dresta, Sylk-E. Fyne, Dirty Red, Menajahtwa, Roger Troutman and ex-N.W.A members MC Ren and DJ Yella.
Legacy
Eazy-E has been called the godfather of gangsta rap. MTV's Reid Shaheem said that Eazy was a "rap-pioneer", and he is sometimes cited by critics as a legend. Steve Huey of AllMusic said that he was "one of the most controversial figures in gangsta rap". Since his 1995 death, many book and video biographies have been produced, including 2002's The Day Eazy-E Died and Dead and Gone.
When Eazy was diagnosed with AIDS, many magazines like Jet, Vibe, Billboard, The Crisis, and Newsweek covered the story and released information on the topic. All of his studio albums and EPs charted on the Billboard 200, and many of his singles—"Eazy-Duz-It", "We Want Eazy", "Real Muthaphuckkin G's, and "Just tah Let U Know"—also charted in the U.S.
In 2012 an Eazy-E documentary was released by Ruthless Propaganda, called Ruthless Memories. The documentary featured interviews from Jerry Heller, MC Ren and B.G. Knocc Out.
In the 2015 film Straight Outta Compton, Eazy-E is played by Jason Mitchell and the film is dedicated in his memory.

Rewind: How a religious group you’ve never heard of influences policy in both Washington and Topeka
From KCActive.com, July 24, 2009
The new Netflix documentary The Family deals with some of the subjects I discussed with Jeff Sharlet, who was an executive producer on the series and who is one of the people discussing this mysterious and troubling group on camera. ---
Until South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford made a trip to see his mistress in Argentina on state funds and Nevada Sen. John Ensign got a bad return on the hush money he paid former lover and staffer Cynthia Hampton, few Americans had ever heard of a powerful religious group known as The Family or The Fellowship.
The Family provided spiritual counseling to both Sanford and Ensign and, according to Hampton’s husband, drove Ensign to a FedEx office to send a “Dear Jane” letter to Hampton.
While the former convent house they now run on C Street, just a few blocks from the Capitol in Washington DC, is now synonymous with scandal and seems like something from a conspiracy theory, the impact the Family has had in Washington has been real, and current and past members of Kansas’ congressional delegation have sought The Family’s support.
Ensign even lived in the C Street house while he was in DC, and in a recent divorce case, the wife of former Mississippi Congressman Chip Pickering claims he rendezvoused with his mistress within the building’s walls.
The Family’s Tree
The organization, which has several subsidiary foundations, was founded in 1935 by a Norwegian immigrant pastor named Abraham Vereide. It was his response to the rise of unions during the Great Depression. Vereide thought the economic meltdown was caused by the nation’s sin of siding with unions and “against” businesses.
In 1953, he established the annual National Prayer Breakfast, where the President and several other American and World Leaders meet every year. The meeting helped lead to the 1978 Israeli-Egyptian peace deal, but it also helped solidify America’s ties to Indonesian dictator Suharto (a nominal Muslim more interested in power than either Jesus or Mohammed), whose regime killed nearly 500,000 of his own people in a single year.
The Family’s activities have had a very public impact by keeping a low profile. Sharlet lived in their complex, named Ivanwald, for nearly a month in 2002 and later dug through nearly 600 boxes of archives for The Family at Wheaton University, and conducted dozens of personal interviews to write The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heat of American Power. The book, first published in 2008, has just been released in paperback.
“In the early days of The Family, Abraham Vereide was doing a flow chart of responsibility. One man was ‘finances;’ one man was ‘meetings.’ Beside his own name was ‘power.’ That was going to be his responsibility. And then in this really interesting move, he crosses it out. What Vereide’s great insight about power was that it can’t be had. In other words, if you have to declare your own power, you’re not powerful,” says Sharlet by phone from New Hampshire.
“If you talk about (The Family) at all, you’re breaking the rules. They believe they must practice in secrecy, which is in defiance to what the Gospels teach about openness and doing your deeds in the light. Those who do evil deeds will shy away from the light.”
In addition to the Family’s own secrecy, the author says that the American press has unknowingly been complicit in keeping The Family in the shadows.
“For a long time, they’ve been benefiting from the fact that the American political press is religiously illiterate. They don’t know how to ask these questions,” says Sharlet. “There was a failure to distinguish between evangelical Christianity in America, which is a mainstream movement, and The Family, which is a very different kind of theology: very authoritarian. It is unrecognizable to any evangelical church in America.
“They’re Washington insiders. A lot liberals are happy to bash fundamentalists when they think they’re hillbillies or backwoods and that kind of stuff, and they don’t know what to do with a group like The Family, which is establishment, which is elite and sophisticated and internationalist.”
While Ensign and Sanford are Republicans, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor, both Democrats, have also been actively involved with The Family. “It’s a rightward movement pulling on both parties,” says Sharlet.
Prayer for Power
Some of the most familiar quotations from the Gospels display a wariness of wealth and power and a deep concern for the underprivileged. In
John 18:36, Jesus states, “My kingdom does not belong to this world,” and in Matthew 25:40, he ends a parable by declaring, “And the king will answer, ‘I tell you this: anything you did for one of my brothers here, however humble, you did for me (New English Version).”
It’s also hard to forget Mark 10:25, where Jesus warns his followers, “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
According to Sharlet, Vereide and his successors believe that their ministry was to the “up-and-out” instead of the “down-and-out.” One of their core beliefs is that many rulers who have come to power, regardless of wretchedness, gained their thrones through divine selection.
“This is not actually in the book. It’s in a bunch of audio sermons we found after the book had already gone to press. Doug Coe (who succeeded Vereide before the founder’s death in 1969) does this little rhetorical move where he wants congressmen to understand what he means about power.
“‘Who are the three 20th century leaders who best understood Jesus’ message in the New Testament?’ You imagine people guessing something like (South African Nobel laureate) Desmond Tutu, (German Anti-Nazi theologian Dietrich) Bonheoffer, or Martin Luther King or maybe Billy Graham even,” recalls Sharlet.
“And he says, ‘None of those guys. It’s Hitler, Stalin and Mao.’ Your jaw drops. These are evil men. He’s not saying you should commit genocide. ‘They are evil men, but they understood the bottom line of the New Testament.’ That’s a constant of all their stories.”
Kansas Connections
Two of the Sunflower state’s most prominent Republican politicians, Sam Brownback and Todd Tiahrt, have been regular visitors at the counseling sessions. Brownback is expected to run for governor of Kansas after declaring he would not run for reelection to the U.S. Senate. Tiahrt, who is the current Fourth District Congressman, is a 2010 U.S. Senate candidate for Kansas.
He received national attention when he lamented a House bill that might have led to taxpayer-supported abortions in DC, if applied to earlier generations, would have led the mothers of Barack Obama and Clarence Thomas to end their pregnancies.
U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback and Congressman Todd Tiahrt, both representing Kansas, are regular visitors at counseling sessions conducted by Douglas E. Coe, leader of The Family, a secretive Christian movement.
Sharlet says Tiahrt’s emphatic rhetoric is unusual for Family members. “They don’t like bomb throwers. That’s not their style. It’s easy to forget that Brownback can be a very subtle player. I don’t know if Tiahrt can.”
In the book, Sharlet recounts a counseling session with Coe where Tiahrt lamented that Christians were losing the race with Muslims because Muslims were having more babies and Christians were aborting theirs.
“Apparently, in Todd Tiahart’s world, there are no American Muslims,” says Sharlet. “(Tiahrt and Coe) were sitting in a breakfast nook of the C Street house. They were sipping their hot cocoa. I brought them their cocoa.”
Ironically, Sharlet’s experiences in The Family landed him an extensive 2006 Rolling Stone interview with Brownback despite an unflattering article he’d previously written about the organization in Harper’s. The author recalls that a Kansas reporter sent the senator a dossier on Sharlet warning Brownback not to consent to the article.
“Once you’ve been a member of The Family, because it is a type of bastardized Calvinism, you’re always a member of The Family,” says Sharlet. “God uses you for a purpose. In Brownback’s case, it really seemed in my conversation with him, it really seemed like he felt that if he could show me what he did and what he believed that I would be overwhelmed by the goodness of it and come back to the fold.”
Sharlet also describes a vivid example where Kansans don’t have to look far to see the impact of the Family on the state.
“A bunch of Family guys on a Senate appropriations committee are in charge of military construction. What they’ve been doing is green lighting mega-church size and style chapels across the country. And Fort Riley’s got one under construction that came through Sam Brownback. Keep in mind Fort Riley (already) has a chapel. They don’t need a new chapel for $18 million,” says Sharlet.
“At the same time, this committee couldn’t fund a much more modest and ecumenical chapel at the Dover Air Force Base that would have been for the families of the war dead. They couldn’t find three million bucks for that.”
He Never Left
Sharlet’s expertise on The Family and his first-hand observations have suddenly made him an omnipresent pundit. The week I had spoken to him, he had written a Family-related article in Salon and made his fifth appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show.
“I published the book last spring. It made it on the bestseller list for a week, but it wasn’t a big hit,” says Sharlet. “None of it took. And now come sex scandals, the great American blood sport. Americans know how to deal with it. Hypocrisy, they get. What’s been promising about all the attention is that it starts with the sex scandals but in a lot of the media we’ve been doing, we start with the sex scandals but we get to the real issues at hand, which are not about who’s sleeping with who but about where the money is going, what kind of political influence is being used, what kind of ideology is being pushed out there. I’m very glad that people are paying attention.”

Some shit I am sick of explaining to bogan Australians who want to have a barbecue and a day off. AKA Q&A with me and racists.
“Oh but why is this only coming up now? It’s all the snowflakes and political correctness gone mad!” Answer:   I have never celebrated ‘Australia Day’, I didn’t even know that’s what it was called until I went to school. I didn’t even know it was a public holiday until recently. I have always remembered my Aboriginal ancestors and the invasion of our country on this day. It has always been a day spent with family, shielding and protecting the younger kids from what the racists would do on this day, and educating us on what they have done in the past.   Aboriginal people asking for the date to change is not a new ‘trend’. We have been asking for decades for the date to change, it’s just that now you can finally hear us.
“But that was so long ago?? Why do you still care” Answer:   Alright so first off it wasn’t ‘so long ago’ but I will get back to that in a second. So there is something called ‘generational hurt/pain’ which is where trauma is passed down through multiple generations. This hurt can go unnoticed for some people, until they see or hear something that triggers it, for others it is a constant feeling. Most people have heard of our connection to land and this is fairly similar, our connection to our family, our ancestors and our history is so strong, we feel it all.   Now, it wasn’t sooo long ago, and we shouldn’t just get over it. Australia was invaded in 1788, at this time its estimated that there were at least 750,000 Aboriginal people in Australia, AT LEAST. The governments and law enforcement made it their absolute mission to kill off and ‘breed out’ the Aboriginal people. Their were massacres, deadly diseases, and wars that the Aboriginal people had not encountered before. Not to mention the new fandangled alcohol that our bodies couldn’t handle at all.  We knew what was happening, we fought, and we fought hard. But our people were dying just like they wanted us to.   In the 1920s (less than 100 years ago) there were surveys and investigations done which estimated the Aboriginal population to be under 100,000 people. The last of the ‘officially documented’ massacres (very very few were officially documented only some of the most known and ones that people actually had to go to court for) of Aboriginal people was still to come, so was the stolen generation. My own grandmother could have been taken and my history be erased.   Now our land is still being taken away from us and sold to massive mining corporations, our youth still have the highest suicide rates, our communities are being shut down with our people left to ‘fend for themselves’ without food, water or housing, our brothers and sisters are still being killed and abused in the name of the law, our children are still being ripped from their ‘unfit’ families.   The fight to keep our land and our rights IS STILL not over, we have been fighting since 1788 and we will continue to until we have equality. If you honestly believe it only took a year to invade in 1788, you are sorely mistaken, and probably need to study up on your proud Australian histor
“So why haven’t we heard about this before?” Answer:   You weren’t listening.   You still aren’t. If you defend yourself against everything I say, your not listening to our issues.   A great man named Clinton Pryor recently WALKED ACROSS AUSTRALIA in the hopes to speak with government officials on the social injustice and inequality Aboriginal people face today. He hoped to speak with them, with a list of issues that Aboriginal people he had met on his journey had told him about. I cried as I saw him make it to Parliament House, but did the majority of you even hear about this happening. Did the news cover this enough, did the government make promises? Nah man.   It’s because our voice isn’t as loud as yours. We are like 4% of the population of Australia, it’s your job to raise our voices. Listen to us, really listen not just argue. And hear our stories and our wishes and help us make the rest of Australia hear it too.

Do The Republicans Control The Senate

Do The Republicans Control The Senate
Tumblr media
The Gop Has Yet To Land A Single Top Recruit To Run For The Senate Anywhere In The Country
Republicans maintain control of the House and the Senate
The surest way that Republicans can stop whatever legislative agenda President Biden has in mind after the 2022 midterm elections is to win a majority in the US Senate.
Even more than the House, a simple majority in the Senate could let Republicans gum up everything from gun control legislation to Supreme Court nominations.
On paper, it seems easy enough. Republicans need to win just a single seat in order to flip the 50-50 Senate and possibilities for doing so are all over the map. Given that midterm elections often benefit the party out of power, and Democrats control two out of three levers of the federal government, Republicans wouldnt be overly optimistic in assuming Mitch McConnell might soon rule the Senate again.
But here is the thing about the GOPs chances: At this early stage, they are having problems getting good candidates to sign up. And while the historical trends look good for Republicans you cant win something with nothing.
Republicans have yet to land a single top recruit to run for the Senate anywhere in the country even in places where they have an opportunity to flip a seat and a good candidate could make all the difference.
In Nevada, Republicans are pinning their hopes on getting former state attorney general Adam Laxalt in the race to challenge Masto, who won in 2016 by just 3 percentage points. So far, Laxalt has not announced plans to run and he comes with baggage: he lost a bid for governor in 2018.
Arkansas: Mark Pryor Vs Tom Cotton
In a stunning blow to Democrats, Rep. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., beat two-term Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor, the first Senate Democrat to lose his seat this election cycle.
Pryors loss is a major upset to Democrats who were hoping to hold onto the seat and keep Republicans from taking control of the Senate. Pryor comes from a popular political family in the state. His father, David Pryor, represented Arkansas in the U.S. Senate and served as the states governor. The family maintains close ties with the Clintons, a connection that prompted former President Bill Clinton to campaign on Pryors behalf on multiple occasions.
But Cotton, a one term congressman and former Army Ranger who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, was able to break through Pryors deep political connections in the state. Throughout the campaign, Cotton, 37, repeatedly tied Pryor to President Obama, whose favorability has reached an all-time low, and stressed issues related to national security, including how the administrations is dealing with ISIS, on the campaign trail.
Kayleigh Mcenany Is Gaslighting America
Washington, DC President Donald Trump made a prediction about the GOP’s control of the Senate at a fundraiser this week, privately telling donors that it will be “very tough” for Republicans to keep control of the chamber in the upcoming election, namely because Trump refuses to support some senators, The Washington Post reported on Saturday.

McConnell used his power as majority leader to great effect, stonewalling bills passed in the House by both Democrats and Republicans. Rather than vote down those bills in the Senate, McConnell simply ignored them, never letting them go to a vote. Over the four years of Trumps term, McConnells Senate has hardly passed any substantial legislation, despite Republicans controlling both chambers of Congress for the first two of those years. A Republican tax cut bill in 2017 and a bipartisan criminal justice reform bill in 2018 were among the rare exceptions.
Instead, McConnell focused on confirming conservative judges. He was able to confirm 218 federal judges to lifetime appointments under Trump, including three Supreme Court justices. A lot of what weve done over the past four years will be undone, sooner or later, by the next election, McConnell said last month during the confirmation of Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. They wont be able to do much about this for a long time to come.
McConnells disinterest in passing legislation enraged Democrats and also drew frustration from some Republicans in the House and the Senate.
Democrats will be under intense pressure to do away with the legislative filibuster, which requires 60 votes to actually get to a vote on a bill. The filibuster means Democrats will need to get at least 10 Republicans to support any bill they want to pass.
Four Flips For Democrats One For Republicans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going into the election, the Democrats held 47 seats in the U.S. Senate while the Republicans held 53.
The Democrats have succeeded in flipping four seats: in Colorado, where former Governor John Hickenlooper easily ousted incumbent Cory Gardner, in Arizona, where former astronaut Mark Kelly defeated incumbent Martha McSally, and in Georgia, where Raphael Warnock defeated incumbent Kelly Loeffler and Jon Ossoff defeated incumbent David Perdue.
The Republicans have wrested back one previously Democratic seat in Alabama, where one-term incumbent Doug Jones was emphatically denied a second term by Tommy Tuberville, a former college head football coach, most recently at the University of Cincinnati.
Outgoing freshman Sens. Jones and Gardner were both considered vulnerable, as each was elected with less than 50% of the vote in 2018.
Republican Thom Tilliss victory over Cal Cunningham in North Carolinaby less than 2 percentage points according to the North Carolina Secretary of States latest tallyis one of several close Senate races that were not called until after election night. In addition to the seats from Georgia, close races also include the victories of incumbent senators Gary Peters and Susan Collins , which were not called until Nov. 4.

Collins Says Gideon Called To Concede
Senator Susan Collins of Maine told supporters on Wednesday that her Democratic opponent, Sara Gideon, had called her to concede the race. Without taking Collinsâ seat, Democrats have little change of claiming the Senate majority.
âI have news for everyone. I just received a very gracious call from Sara Gideon conceding the race,â Collins told supporters on Wednesday afternoon.
Collins, one of the more moderate members of Senate, was considered particularly vulnerable this year. If she had received under 50% of the vote, the race would have proceeded to a runoff, under Maineâs system of ranked-choice voting.
Gideon significantly outraised Collins, and hit the senator repeatedly for voting to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Elections to the U.S. Senate were held on . A total of 34 of the 100 seats were up for regular election. Those elected to the U.S. Senate in the 34 regular elections on November 8, 2016, began their six-year terms on January 3, 2017.
Control of the Senate was up for grabs again in 2016. In order to take the chamber back, Democrats needed to gain five seats in 2016, but they fell short, picking up only two seats. Ultimately, Republican senators proved to be far less vulnerable than predicted. Some reasons for the predicted vulnerability are as follows. The majority of seats up for election were held by Republican incumbents, many of whom were freshmen who were swept into office in the Tea Party wave of 2010. Additionally, the Senate election coincided with a presidential election, which has been a boon to Democratic candidates in the past decade. Democrats had made gains in the Senate in the last two presidential elections, while they had suffered losses in the years between.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Democratic Party gained two seats in 2016, resulting in a 52-48 majority for Republicans. The two independent members of the Senate are included in the Democratic totals, as they caucus with Democrats.

What Are Senate Special Elections And Why Do They Happen
A special election may happen for any Senatorial seat and is sometimes referred to as a bye-election. State Senators have two-year terms. In some cases, a Senator steps down from office before their term ends. A Senate special election refers to an election to fill a vacant Senate seat between a general election.
In some instances, such as in Georgia, the state Governor appoints an interim Senator to fill the vacant seat until the next general election. In other cases, special elections begin at the time an officeholder vacates their seat.
How Long Will It Last
Republicans keep control of the House and Senate
The Republican hold on its power in the 50-50 split is just as tenuous. The Republicans radical pro-Trump faction could drive more moderate lawmakers out of the party, which would disrupt the balance of power and weaken the GOP. Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski recently floated the idea of abandoning the party. This would presumably make her an independent; she told Alaska Public Radio that she would not join the Democratic Party.
In 2001, after just four months of being in place, the power-sharing agreement was dismantled when Vermont Republican Senator Jim Jeffords left the Republican Party and joined the Democrats, giving them true majority control.
Since the deal was only in place for four months, it never really got tested in the way it might have had things gone on longer with tougher issues, said Verdery. On paper, it looked pretty good and it worked fine, but it was only in effect for a short period of time.
Should there be no disruptions, the agreement negotiated between Schumer and McConnell this year would last until 2023. How it will look and how well it will work has yet to be tested.
There probably will be a power-sharing agreement that will be a very lame version of what was produced in 2001, said Steve Smith, a professor of political science at Washington University in St Louis. Those were different times.

What Republican Senate Control Means For America
One of the most important memes of political intellectual culture today is that the Republicans are no better than the Democrats.;;Conservatives express this vividly in the notion of RINOs .;;Is this historically true?;;More specifically, what might a Republican-controlled Senate mean for American life beginning in 2015?
Since 1980, Republicans have controlled the Senate from 1981 until 1987, from 1995 until 2000, and from 2003 until 2007.;;The largest majority for Republicans was 55, held 1997 to 2001 and again in 2005 to 2007.;;If electing Republicans to the Senate makes no difference, then we should be able to see in the past 30 years that Republican control of the Senate renders no meaningful difference in several areas — among them poverty, unemployment, and the deficit.;
Poverty
The United States experienced the most dramatic reduction in poverty from 1996 to 2000.;;Poverty in the United States fell to an astounding level of 11 percent.;;Why?
This is an important question, given that poverty is over 15% today and we are approaching the 50th anniversary of a war on poverty.;;The Welfare Reform Act of 1995, compelled by a Republican Senate against the wishes of Democratic President Clinton, ushered in the era of big government being “over.”

How Will Democrats Control Of An Evenly
While Democrats will have some advantages controlling the 50-50 Senate, their majority could also be quite complicated.
Georgia certified election results Tuesday confirming the victories of Georgia Democratic Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to the US Senate. Their arrival in the Senate splits the partisan makeup in the chamber equally between 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans, a divide that has occurred only three times before in the nations history.
Warnock and Ossoff are expected to be sworn in this week after defeating former Republican Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, respectively, in a pair of dramatic January 5 runoff elections in the southern state of Georgia that determined control of the Senate. Under the US Constitution, the vice president, in his or her constitutional role as Senate president, has the power to break tie votes, so Democrats will technically control the chamber when Democrat Vice President-elect Kamala Harris is sworn in on January 20.
Although the slim Democratic control is good news for incoming President Joe Biden, it raises many questions about how the Senate will operate and perform its most basic functions. The split comes at a time in which the country is deeply divided following four years of President Donald Trump and days after a deadly insurrection attempt that his supporters made against the US Capitol building in Washington, DC on January 6.

What Does That Mean To Joe Biden
The narrow Democratic majority will help Joe Biden as he tries to fill out his Cabinet and pass an agenda headlined by a coronavirus relief package.
The Senate also has to set a structure for an impeachment trial for former President Donald Trump.
The House charged him with inciting an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 but has not yet sent the impeachment article to the Senate.
Biden hopes the Senate can spend part of its time on the impeachment trial while still confirming executive branch nominees.
Divided Government In The United States
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the United States, divided government describes a situation in which one party controls the executive branch while another party controls one or both houses of the legislative branch.
Divided government is seen by different groups as a benefit or as an undesirable product of the model of governance used in the U.S. political system. Under said model, known as the , the state is divided into different branches. Each branch has separate and independent powers and areas of responsibility so that the powers of one branch are not in conflict with the powers associated with the others. However, the degree to which the president of the United States has control of Congress often determines their political strength – such as the ability to pass sponsored legislation, ratify treaties, and have Cabinet members and judges approved.
Early in the 19th century, divided government was rare, but since the 1970s it has become increasingly common.

Democrats will have a narrow control of the U.S. Senate. The chamber will be split 50-50, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris having a tiebreaking vote.
Democrats took exceedingly narrow control of the Senate on Wednesday after winning both runoff elections in Georgia, granting them control of Congress and the White House for the first time since 2011.
Democrat Jon Ossoff defeated Republican David Perdue, according to The Associated Press, making him the youngest member of the U.S. Senate and the first Jewish senator from Georgia. Earlier Raphael Warnock, a pastor from Atlanta, defeated GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler after a bitter campaign. Warnock becomes the first Black Democrat elected to the Senate from a Southern state.
The Senate will now be split 50-50 between the two parties, giving Vice President-elect Kamala Harris the tiebreaking vote.

Perdue has not conceded.
