I need white people in this fandom to understand that stealing Black people’s words and using them wrong is only going to make you sound stupid and not racially enlightened. Eddie becoming more comfortable with cooking and caretaking (as he should as a single dad) is not codeswitching. Code switching is about dialect and manners of speaking. It’s about socialization and how we signal linguistically that we are part of a community. Most importantly though, it’s about race and not gendered behavior or sexuality and if you can’t grasp that ground level concept, you have no business writing meta about how Linda (a Black woman) teaching Eddie (a Latino man) how to cook better is an example of codeswitching.

-he's mid-to-late 20s -he's nicknamed Jojo by some, Junebug by Fel occasionally -figure when he came in through the mirror Crowley heard he just finished up his degree and was like "Great! you can teach here np" -so he's forced to do art classes part time at the school -_- not that he doesnt enjoy it but man.. -on top of that he probably still forces this guy to take classes all over again (thus the uniform) -havent decided if i want him to be completely magic-less or to have a very small amount u-u -unironically think him and Vil would be great friends, but they'd have a white girl wednesday incident at least once (probably when he hears him and Leona talking 😭) ive got to make a relationships chart later! -he majored in art but he has a minor in mimery. like actually. -he can talk his way into getting 98% of things if you let him but often chooses not to. he could if he wanted! -he has a strong resting face and monotone voice at times so i believe major expressions of emotion from him can sometimes startle others -Joona has a fairly rich background and parents that spoiled him and his siblings as long as they worked hard and didnt 'waste their time doing things half-assed and leaving things unfinished' end quote -he's got a mild soft spot for kids even though he's always sure they'd dislike him for having such a stoic face. he's the guy who doesn't quite know what to do when they start swinging on his arms -fondly calls Epel, Riddle, Ortho and Ruggie his 'lil cousins' -he's exclusively an older brother/parental figure to Gidel!

Looking at r/Deltarune to see what theories ppl have come up with based on That One Valentine and it’s soooooooo funny to me that every single post about it is the same. Actual quotes from the subreddit:

“How do we know this is gaster”

“Why else would it mention the letter being impossible to understand at the start”

“It doesn’t have the signature stilted tone gaster’s always had”

It’s back and forth with these general opinions, especially of ‘oh that’s not how he talks’ and I’m just sitting here like

1. When you are a scientist, you do not necessarily talk the same in academic contexts as you do in casual contexts. For the most part, I speak COMPLETELY differently from my papers I’ve written for school compared to when I’m flirting with my partner.

i’m sorry it’s cute and all, but kageyama “why tf should japanese people speak english we live in japan” tobio is not speaking italian with his japanese bf unless it’s absolutely necessary. like i can buy hinata getting a kick out of using his portuguese/english with kageyama from time to time (like pet names etc) but kags, even tho he might learn english and italian well enough to communicate on the court and with the press, isn’t going to have any desire to speak foreign languages (something he’s uncomfortable with) w/in the comfort of his own home, and that’s okay. personally i think it’s even sweeter if tobio is relieved to call hinata while they’re abroad so he can just speak japanese without thinking too hard.

This is how you sign "Mars" in ASL! It's a combination of the sign for "planet" and the sign for "red". I imagine the martians would create a unique sign for Ma'aleca'andra in Martian Sign Language.

I try not to make new sign words and avoid drawing characters signing their sign name (I stick to fingerspelling) because it's not my place as a hearing person to add to a language and a culture I'm not a part of. I don't have the authority!

if i see one more person criticising valentino's voice actor for switching accents too much i am going to sob like IT'S CLEARLY ON PURPOSE. have you never heard of code switching. do you realise how common it is for people to switch accents when they talk, especially when they are conveying strong emotions. val switches to his spanish accent when he's angry or when he's trying to seem sweet in order to manipulate people. it's not random or inconsistent. you don't have to like it but to imply that it's only being done because the voice actor can't pick an accent is the dumbest take i have ever seen
