Good news, I don’t think I’m sick! Bad news, I have a colposcopy tomorrow morning RIP my 🐱 if you’ve never had one they are very unpleasant, far worse than a normal Pap smear. Do I get anything for it though? Of course not! This is America where women’s reproductive health is a fucking joke! I get told to take some ibuprofen which I can’t take because of my kidneys and to just suck it up. Booo it’s also first thing in the morning so double boo! Triple boo I have to get blood work too! Send me good juju or thirsty Bi-Han/Syzoth/Bireena asks or self ship asks are always a great distraction! Basically keep me occupied please 🥺

Colposcopy
so on Wednesday I had the absolute joy of having this hellish procedure... Without any other pain relief than what I've been taking for 15 months for pelvic pain. Anyways I wanted to explain what it's like and get it out there because I've just been kind of numb and traumatized from the whole thing. First I had some fun swabs done and opened up to do internal swabs. Then some acid was put on to my cervical ectropion to treat it and it wasn't that bad.
But next came the silver nitrate which was hell. It burned. Then more fun news, due to how abnormal my cervix is I was recommended a punch biopsy. Now I'm talking a 5 inch or more needle that I had to cough on to take a small piece off for testing. Then more silver nitrate to cauterize the bleeding from the biopsy needle.
It was excruciating. I cried. I was scared to moved after it was all done. Gas and air would be perfect for this but no I'm supposed to just deal with the pain. Not fair. Fucking fed up of medical care. They fucking assaulted me without anything to help me with it. Disgusted. Traumatized fr

Colposcopy Market Driven By Rising Cervical Cancer & Gynecological Disorders
The global colposcopy market size is expected to reach USD 761.2 million by 2030, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. The market is expected to expand at a CAGR of 4.8% from 2022 to 2030. Increase in the prevalence of cervical cancer, technological advancements, and the rising demand for early- diagnosis of gynecological disorders are expected to boost the market growth. According to the ICO Information Centre on HPV and Cancer, cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer among women globally, with an estimated 604,127 new cases and 341,831 deaths in 2020.
Colposcopy is a test to take a closer look at cervix, vagina & vulva using a colposcope (A lighted, magnifying instrument) for signs of cancerous or pre-cancerous tissue. An article published by the Human Papillomavirus Information Center stated that cervical cancer is reported to be the second most common cancer among women aged 15 to 44. Colposcopy helps in accurate identification of cervical pre-cancer and early invasive cancer. Moreover, colposcope directed biopsies of severe lesion visualized help in further management of the disease. Growing awareness and rise in the number of screening campaigns for cervical cancer conducted by governments of various regions are expected to fuel the market growth during the forecast period.

In the U.S., National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) offers breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services to low-income, uninsured, and underinsured women across the country. It is estimated that due to COVID-19, screenings for cancers of the breast, colon, and cervix have dropped by 94%, 86%, & 94% in 2020. Coronavirus pandemic had a substantial effect on women’s access to care, where nearly two-thirds of women were delayed or not adherent to care. Several obstacles arose as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, including logistical constraints, low demand, and reduced sales and marketing activities. However, by mid-2022, the market is predicted to be steadily improving. By encouraging end-users to embrace high-end technologies for early diagnosis of the disease, aiming to lessen cervical cancer cases by 70%, and thus preventing over 4.5 million deaths (Source: WHO). This is expected to significantly boost the market in the coming years.  Grand View Research has segmented the global colposcopy market based on modality, application, portability, end-use, and region

Both my parents have Covid which means I was probably exposed to it too, great. *sigh* Just what I needed after a disastrous morning at the hospital. I got a newbie for my blood draw and my arm is a black and blue pincushion, thankfully his supervisor only let him try twice but he still went in the back of my hand which is by far the most painful spot there is for shitty lab work. I almost blacked out twice from him digging around for the vein. After that I had my colposcopy which is basically a biopsy of the cervix, plus side my abnormal Pap smear doesn’t look cancerous at all, down side it hurt and I’m very crampy. I was supposed to go out tonight but after finding out I was potentially exposed to Covid I canceled, so far I’m feeling ok but my partner isn’t so we’re probably fucked. At least I got a good nap in after my appointments, so there’s that?

I have a diagnoses
I knew it. I fucking knew. All along. Today I got a letter telling me I have high risk HPV which most likely means my pelvic agony is cancer. Before y'all start being ignorant fucks about sexual health, I most likely was born with this. I had it before the vaccines even. I had warts all over my hands as a child. I tried to tell doctors I had it even. Nobody listened. I win. Fuck y'all. I'm suing the NHS for negligence.

It’s over.
It’s finally over.
I’m free.
Had my final appointment at the cancer clinic today.  It was a pelvic exam and colposcopy to make sure that I was all healed up inside after the hysterectomy and that there were no traces of any abnormalities.  I’d been anxious about the appointment for WEEKS.
It wasn’t my surgeon who saw me, it was one of her associates, but she was so kind and understanding and empathetic that I felt good about it going into the procedure. The procedure itself was super un-fun given how one of the symptoms of menopause is vaginal dryness/atrophy.  All the lube in the world didn’t make that speculum go in any easier and it hurt like hell, but once it was in place it was fine.
After a thorough look and feel and a LOT of anxiety on my part, the doctor pronounced me fully healed and fit to return to all activities.  She said that there is no need for them to see me again, that this is it, but that if I have any concerns come up or any questions in the future or issues related to any pelvic health, to give them a call back and they’d take me back on without question.
That said, though, I never need another pelvic exam.  I never need another pap test.  I never need to deal with all of the menstrual bullshit again.  I can bid cancer goodbye and good riddance.
It’s actually, finally over.

If you have a cervix, especially if your under the trans umbrella, please get your cervical screening done when you hit 25.
Its terrifying, I know this, I've had to have two of them done in the space of 3 days (well technically one, the first one was to JUST check down there, not do the actual test) but its not as bad as it seems.
Speculums feel...weird, the test itself didn't hurt for me, and you most likely will have light bleeding and discharge for up to a day or two (any longer than that, see ya doctor!)
Id recommend trying to see if there are any trans specific sexual health clinics in your area, bc they will probably not misgender you like our doctor did. I know most of them will do cervical screenings. If you dont have any near you/they don't do the screenings, call ahead of your appointment with your regular doctor and see if you can speak to them, tell them that your trans and ask them any questions.
Also, you know your body best. I'm 24, I shouldn't be having ANY cervical screenings until April, but I noticed bleeding that was unusual for me, as in, I don't bleed on the pill, nor do I bleed after sex but those things are happening. This DOES NOT mean its cancer, but its better to get it checked out!
If ya'll need to know more about cervical screenings, I have a lot of links available and I have my own personal experience too.
I want to help other trans peeps get through stuff like this, if any other trans peeps want to add onto this (especially if your not from the UK), I'd really appreciate it!!

I don't want to belittle your experience, just got surprised colposcopy is traumatic. can you tell me why? I have been through various gynecological issues and a pregnancy/birth and I could list my medical trauma but that doesn't seem even close to the top, so clearly I'm missing sth others experience. Thank you if you reply!

Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) can be managed in 2 ways. The first option is to repeat cytology in one year and perform colposcopy if follow-up smears are abnormal. The second option is to perform an HPV test and return for testing in 3 years if it is negative or perform a colposcopy if the HPV test is positive. The most preferred method is to perform an HPV test.
Bottom Line: ASC-US can be managed by repeating a Pap smear in one year or performing an HPV test.
So basically, if a pap returns with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS), the pt should get reflex HPV testing. But in this question I answered, the pt didn't have relex HPV testing ordered with the pap test, so the answer was to just do repeat Pap in 1 year. If the repeat pap showed ASCUS, then she would go for colposcopy.
ASC-US is the most common cytological abnormality seen on Pap testing. They are reactive cells which are abnormal, but not definate for squamous intraepithelial lesion. The most appropriate management of a woman age 25 and older with an ASC-US is reflex HPV testing on an abnormal Pap smear result or repeat Pap smear in 1 year. Reflex HPV testing was not ordered with this patient's Pap smear so the alternative appropriate management is repeat Pap smear in one year.
If cytology is negative, the patient can resume pap smear testing every 3 years.
If patient again has an ASC-US, the next most appropriate step in management is a colposcopy. Additionally, if HPV testing had been performed and was positive, this patient would have been referred for colposcopy.
