MCM through the Years!
I enjoy going to MCM ever since my first one in 2016. The joy of going to London’s convention at the ExCel never stops me from having some fun. Plus it was great to meet interesting new people and guests who I adore all through my life.

I'm reading it in Commander Shepard's voice, I can't-
Tumblr media
No but in all seriousness this really looks like one of Shepard's speech sequences in Mass Effect, especially the third one with the slight walk left / right while talking
The fact that apparently the fandom nicknamed him Commander Spector DOES NOT HELP
I mean, this is the one from the third game:

Mmmmm thoughts for you
In your army days series, what would Jack do if he has to pick between his mission and Mac? (How did they get into that situation?) He’s still a soldier and has to do his duty and yet this is Mac.
Just wanted your thoughts on this :))
HMMMM
I may be heavily influenced by JStar8 as of right now, but Jack would choose Mac. Every time
Definitely more so after Mac initially saved him from that IED he stumbled on, because before that, Jack chose him out of a sense of duty because Mac was his responsibility, and was a dumb kid that didn’t know how the world worked and it served as a kinda teaching moment(?) or something like that
But after that, it was a different sense of duty, like after learning how shit of a childhood Mac had, Jack figured he had to show Mac that there are actually good people in the world
Of course there were horribly difficult decisions, like Mac+Stranger-Jack where Jack had to choose the mission to keep Mac safe,
But like if they were out and like in a big firefight or whatever, and Jack had to make the decision of Get The Bad Guy or Save Mac, it’s Mac. 100% it’s always going to be Mac
Honestly though, Jack doesn’t really ever have to make any big decisions, because if there’s anything where Mac’s involved, he’s going to choose whatever option will keep him safe in the long haul

I cannot stress enough how important it is that whatever you think of anything else, Trump Cannot Be President Again.
The "rip apart democracy and install an autocrat" group was not Ready for him in 2016. They didn't think he'd win.
They're ready now. They're teeing up for a second Trump president. Whatever your favorite current Thing, it would be worse under Trump, and it is not an exaggeration to say that they're going to try to make sure that they stay in power forever, by any means necessary.
SCOTUS basically just said, "If Trump sends the Army in to murder protestors, that's okay. If Trump assassinates a political rival with the armed forces of which he is the Commander In Chief, that's an official act, and there's no recourse."
Anything he can even vaguely justify as "an official act" - including installing people in the Justice Department to support his coup, including pressuring his VP to support his coup - is no longer a crime.
This isn't just me saying this, btw. Here's Robert Reich, lifelong public servant (and yes, dad of @samreich, since I know what's important to y'all):
Finally, the Republican-appointed justices have given a dangerous amount of discretion to presidents — broad enough, as Justice Sonia Sotomayor noted in her dissent, to protect presidents from prosecution for bribes and assassinations. A president already has the authority under the Insurrection Act to order troops into American streets. After today’s ruling, those troops would be under the command of a person who would almost certainly enjoy absolute immunity for the orders he gives them.
This is unbelievably terrifying.

All My Thoughs
Your Wish is My Command off Ace Frehley's Spaceman (2018) interests me more than any other song from a recent Ace solo album simply because it's one of the rare collaborations with Gene, and unlike the one with Paul, it's not a cover version but an original composition.
And this is where it gets really interesting for me, because this song initially composed by Gene alone was, according to him, and that can always mean many things, on the shortlist for the never-released (1) follow-up album to Monster (2012). So what we get to hear here is the next best thing to another Kiss studio album.
But in order not to fall into a deep depression because of the meager yield, I prefer to gratefully enjoy this showpiece of Kiss' songwriting in this not entirely unfamiliar Ace & Gene constellation, and just see what spontaneously catches the eye.
Your Wish is My Command's verses bear a not minor resemblance to the far-reaching All the Way from Hotter Than Hell (1974), its vocal verses to be precise.
And also these character-defining bridges/breaks create a familiar feeling, as if they came straight from the warm and intimate 70s.
Much like Remedy in 1992 by The Black Crowes suggested quite well. And with that, we've already landed something of an indirect direct hit, first of all as far as the year of origin of the little reference we're looking for is concerned, because that one comes from Revenge's (1992) Though Shalt Not, namely its final riff, pretty much at the end of the song, and varies it just a little on the second run-through in Your Wish is My Command. And furthermore because Revenge works referentially in a related but not the same way as the Black Crowes, who draw an essential part of their creative power from the 70s (2).
However, this riff comes across with such an inconspicuous lightness and implies such a matter-of-factness that you can't help but imagine an old Djinn standing in front of you, ready to fulfill your every wish with a smile in the blink of an eye.
And I'll tell you one more thing.
If Kiss had recorded and released said follow-up album back in the day, and now I'm taking a giant, bold step further in that reckless direction, but I have to, I guarantee you and I'll bet my Kiss bunny slippers that Gene would have had a song called "The Hottest Band in the World" ready for it.
There should not be the slightest doubt about that.
Side Note:
(1) Although it was never recorded in the studio, it was still being considered in 2016, according to Gene, which assures me that there must have been at least enough demos from all involved for this purpose.
(2) And to be honest, I think that Remedy's riff and the one from Though Shalt Not Riffs are not entirely dissimilar.
The links for All the Way and Though Shalt Not are highlighted, but you'll have to work your way through Your Wish is My Command on your own:
