We’re saying goodbye to National Sandwich Month today. August was claimed for the sandwich as early as 1952, when the milling industry, commercial bakers, and other food industry interests joined forces with the National Restaurant Association, who spearheaded the campaign to announce to the country that “August is Sandwich Time”.
The pages seen here are from the World’s Fair edition of The Wonder Book of Good Meals, a circa 1932 pamphlet of Wonder Bread based recipes released by the Continental Baking Corporation as a tie in to its presence at the 1933-1934 Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.
In addition to teaching readers about the “Witchery of Sandwiches” and providing some guidance for those looking to feed sandwiches to men, its pages offered irresistible recipes for Cheese Dreams, Pilgrim Pies, De Luxe Bridge Loaf, and Hot Bread (which is exactly what it sounds like).

Three Reasons To Hire Catering Services For Your Next Corporate Event
Organising and hosting a corporate event itself is a big task. And food adds more weight to the list. Imagine getting from a reliable source in exchange for funds. Doesn't it sound great?
That is what catering services in Sydney do for you. From figuring out what food could be served, preparing the meal, serving the meal, and cleaning up to some extent once your guests leave, you can get off from all of these in one head.
Below we have shared three important reasons for you to consider hiring catering in Sydney for your next corporate event. Have a look.
● To reduce stress
A significant component of organising an event is food. It might seem simple to prep and serve some hot dishes, but the backhand work can be highly stressful. From deciding what to prepare to gather the right ingredients, chopping, cooking, serving, things can go out of hand, especially if you aren't aware of the size of meals you need to prep to feed a mass of guests.
In contrast, caterers are trained to deal with such tasks. Hence, they are perfect people to reach out to when in trouble.
● To save time
Comprehending what to prepare, going to the market, baking for ampere-hours, setting up and serving the food demands a lot of time. And when organising an event, time is valuable. Imagine how much time you could save if someone does all of this work on your behalf. You could concentrate more on documental work and host a more remarkable event.
● Offers versatile quality food
Cannot figure out what kind of menu you should serve? Continental, Thai, or Chinese? Hiring event catering in Sydney can help you decide on these. They would sit and have a detailed discussion of what could be served to the guest and facilitate you to pick something off the menu to turn your vision into a reality.

This Week in Collapse
If like us, you keep track of the disparate stories that track the decline of a collapsing civilization, the big news this week was the Evergreen container ship Ever Given stuck in the Suez Canal. Like an oversized lozenge stuck in the world’s throat, the ship got stuck in a narrow part of the Suez where about 30% of the world’s ocean container volume transits.
Tumblr media
Beached by a raging sand storm and then jammed in to one of the world’s most important shipping choke points, at 1,300 feet long the Ever Given is slightly larger than the Empire State Building. And every bit as seaworthy at the moment.
Speaking of the sandstorm, the conspiracy types have had a field day, speculating that since the influence on the global trade and economy is so huge, it must be a deliberate act, amirite? Cui bono? Some see cover for an attempt to control the narrative around the big world-wide economic collapse that is just around d the corner. Some comment ranges along the lines of “my gut tells me it's not just an accident,” a position marginally more responsible than speculating that Israeli commandos had beached the stricken ship to prevent the transit of 50,000 children for Hillary Clinton’s sex-trafficking operations. My gut tells me to listen to reports from people who work in shipping, such as tug captains, who say that tankers with 100k+ GRT (Gross register tonnage, the total internal volume of cargo vessels) shouldn't sail under high winds because they can't adjust course quickly enough.
Tumblr media
Efforts to refloat the Ever Given have so far fallen short; an array of heavy construction equipment and mammoth tugboats have been far less successful at dislodging the ship’s bow from the sand of the canal as at demonstrating the difficult-to-imagine size of the boat in photos.
Ships are already rerouting around Africa to avoid the delays, but every hour the Ever Given remains lodged in the canal puts stress on a global supply chain already taking water from the pandemic, which in turn puts upward price pressure on all manner of goods.
Perhaps you noticed a shortage of toilet paper, or baking flour, or antiseptic wipes to go with your empty supermarket shelves about a year ago at the beginning of the pandemic. A good summary explanation of the brittleness of our supply chain that is simple and straightforward, see Amanda Mull’s article, Why Everything Is Sold Out.
As is the case with America’s larger pandemic failures, the consumer system had begun to rot long before the coronavirus made its brittleness obvious. American corporations have spent decades squeezing every last dollar out of the market, largely at the expense of its flexibility and resilience. The worst of it started 30 years ago, [Steve Rowen, a managing partner at the retail-analytics firm Retail Systems Research] said, when Walmart crushed local competition across the country and popularized the “just in time” inventory model. Costs are kept low by keeping very little on hand, and shelves are restocked with freshly delivered products; there are no paper towels or sweatpants waiting to be called into duty. In a crisis, this means that store shelves empty quickly. People panic and start hoarding or hunting for things online, depleting those supplies as well. “Efficiency is great if there’s no interruption of any sort and if things go exactly as planned,” Rowen said. “Unfortunately, at least for the foreseeable future, there is really no ‘according to plan.’” It’s not just a pandemic that can cause this kind of logistical chaos. Hurricanes, wildfires, and major civil unrest can all tank the best-laid plans of executives trying to wring profit out of a business through “efficiency.” The United States is currently undergoing all four crises at once.
Not to mention a giant container ship Tokyo-drifting into a sandbar. We’ll see what happens, but although gambling is perhaps the only vice I’ve missed in this life, I’d be willing to bet there are higher prices in our future.
The Rest of the Week: Climate Change Doesn’t Care Whether You Believe in it or Not
Tiny Town, Big Decision: What Are We Willing to Pay to Fight the Rising Sea?
Tumblr media
Avon, NC, a small town on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, is wrestling with the immediate effects of global warming and sea level rise: the encroaching seas. And residents there have opened up a large can of, “somebody ought to do something.” But in the spirit of NIMBYs everywhere, the only thing they can agree on is that someone else ought to pay for it.
Bobby Outten, a county manager in the Outer Banks, delivered two pieces of bad news at a recent public meeting. Avon, a town with a few hundred full-time residents, desperately needed at least $11 million to stop its main road from washing away. And to help pay for it, Dare County wanted to increase Avon’s property taxes, in some cases by almost 50 percent.
Homeowners mostly agreed on the urgency of the first part. They were considerably less keen on the second.
People gave Mr. Outten their own ideas about who should pay to protect their town: the federal government. The state government. The rest of the county. Tourists. People who rent to tourists. The view for many seemed to be, anyone but them.
The fact is that Avon is located on a narrow sandbar that is part an island chain, in a relentlessly rising Atlantic. As seas continue to rise and storms intensify, the question will echo along the American coastline from Norfolk to Miami. What price can be put on saving a town, a neighborhood, a home, and who pays? One suspects that an elimination of subsidized flood insurance will force the issue.
Kuwait Records Hottest March Temperature Ever Amid Dust Storms and Locusts
What, no frogs?
Nearly half the U.S. is in drought and conditions are expected to grow worse, NOAA says
Nearly half of the continental U.S. is in a moderate to exceptional drought, government forecasters said Thursday, and conditions are expected to grow more severe and persistent over the next three months. It’s the most significant spring drought to grip the country since 2013 and will impact roughly 74 million people, per NOAA.
The End of Industrial Society
Post-industrial society is neither the next vaunted stage of human progress, nor the prelude to a catastrophic reversion to pre-industrial ways of life. Our social technologies have not been upgraded in the wake of the Industrial Revolution’s conclusion; they have been exhausted before we even finished industrializing.
Two mass shootings within a week: America's gruesome "bingo card" total keeps growing
And a third in Virginia Beach Saturday AM. We are clearly getting back to what passes for “normal,” in which we become numb to mass slaughter.
So it’s been a week of supply chain disruption, droughts, sandstorms, rising seas, and mass shootings. Another week of downward spin as the American Empire unwinds.

Dear New York City,
You are incredible! I love your busy streets and young energetic crowd. You are simply vibrant of life just how I had imagined you (from the movies, Sex & the City shows, and the songs about you)! So many reasons to have a crush on you so where shall I start?
Butcher’s Daughter
Driving through Chinatown
Ok, here are some of my first impressions of you, NYC:
It is said of you that you are the entire world into one city. Could it be real? You have a platter full of food options! As you are being the hub of internationals and a known place for storied history, you satisfy anyone’s taste bud, I can’t make up my mind. How can I decide between a casual French bistro (Bagatelle, 1 Little West 12th St.), delicious house-made Italian pasta (La Sirena, 88 9th Ave.), Exotic Moroccan (Cafe Mogador, 101 Saint Marks Pl #1), spicy Korean (Kori Tribeca, 253 Church St.), fun cocktails and Mexican food (La Palapa, 77 St Marks Pl.), Barcelona-style tapas (Toro, 85 10th Ave.), German’s pretzels and beer (The Standard Biergarten, 848 Washington St. just outside of the Standard High Line Hotel and I’ll tell more later), Green Juice (Yep that’s also food trust me!) and far more as if I was in the mood for a health conscious Californian style (not just green juice) there is Dime (49 Canal St.). And let’s not omit American sandwiches (Tiny’s & the Bar Upstairs, 135 W Broadway), and comfort food made of shakes, fries and burgers (Bill’s Bar & Burgers, 16 W 51st St.). There is also the Michelin starred Chef Gunter Seeger at Gunter Seerger NY (641 Hudson St.) and for the gluten free folks there is Friedman’s Lunch (75 9th Ave. at the Chelsea Market which I’ll speak more about in this post). Alas, due to my devoted ramen international tour mission, my friend and I set our minds towards Ippudo Ramen (65 Fourth Ave.) as soon as we set our feet on you.
Ippudo NYC
Ippudo Tonkotsu Ramen
Shook off the night away at Le Bain (848 Washington St.), the penthouse club and roof top bar with an outstanding sweeping city and river view located at the Standard High Line hotel. You blew us away! The vibe was electric between the sparkly giant disco ball, the Afro kinetics music, the sweaty dance moves, with the sticky cranberry vodka on my hand. I’ll remember this moment for a while 🙂 Not to mention our pre-game with gin-based drinks at this speakeasy bar Bathtub Gin that is disguised with a front panel as a regular coffee shop. How dare you tricked us!! Fortunately a friendly local had mercy and pointed the place out to us. Piouf don’t you know I have the fear of missing out syndromes!!

The Maritime Hotel (363 W 16th St.) is one of your best places to spend the night in my opinion; friendly, quirky (how I personally like it) and cozy. Located right in the center of the Meatpacking District. This 24-hour neighborhood is found on the far west side of Manhattan and is bordered by Chelsea to the north and the West Village towards downtown. It’s a formidable plant for fashion and graphic designers, architects, artists, restaurateurs, stylists and even corporate headquarters. I enjoyed staying at this hotel in that unique style, it has a nautical-themed landmark with the signature view porthole windows and how I love the white and blue tiles at the restaurant bar and the outdoor terraces seemed just perfect for spring time. In the morning a modest continental breakfast was served at the hotel restaurant so I grabbed myself a quick bite of the bagel with some flavorful orange spread, a mini pain au chocolat, a hard boiled egg, a cup of black coffee and a fresh squeeze glass of OJ. I love the serene atmosphere there with plenty of sun rays through the large windows illuminating the brass surfaced pending lamps.

You are so walkable in lower Manhattan and it was a great way to see your beauty (your wall graffitis, your modern architectures, your red bricked walls, your apartment stair cases, your lively people, and your multi-culture). But if I didn’t care for strolling around in the cold, then there was the world known yellow cab which was very affordable too! Besides the hotel’s cool white-tiled exterior, I can find within a short walking distance anything ranging from roof top night clubs around the corner, espresso bars, bakeries, as well as street food stands (one in the front of the hotel), yummy late night pizzas (Brunetti Pizza, 626 Hudson St.) (especially required after too much drinks at 4 am), and have I already mentioned great restaurants and bars?!
Cool wall art
Greenwich Village street crossing
The signature NYC staircases
And more wall graffitis
Chelsea Market and the well known yellow cab
The Chelsea Market (75 9th Ave.) to me is where anything can happen and is only a block away from the hotel. You are spontaneous like that! If I ever get too lazy to walk out there into town and/or there is a snow storm alert coming, this covered venue is very special! One is expected to find anything ranging from espresso bar, pastries and freshly baked bread. A crave for fresh oysters there is The Lobster Place!! There, it’s a retail fish market with omakase sushi bar but also a raw bar where people can order and eat at the counter nearby the living seashells. There is even a German wurst place!! There are plenty of cool shops for gifts giving. I love this market!

Sight seeing to me is so boring but we strolled around town and set our sight towards The Flatiron Building then marched towards the Empire State Building. I got remotely distracted by the Museum of Sex and ought to call out Grant on this! Our last Vegas trip during thanksgiving holiday failed on us in finding adult shows for some sort of sex Ed haha I’ll skip the details there 😉 but anyone can read this post here! The Empire State Building was incredibly crowded (uncool!!) so we evidently ditched the queue and headed out towards the world known Times Square. Bright lights, giant billboards and honking everywhere! It was to say the least chaotic. Gotta get away now! Who really hangs out in Times Square aside from catching a Broadway show or… yeah tourists!!
The Flatiron Building
The Empire State Building
The chaotic Times Square
The Museum of Sex, was it really a distraction?! or an attraction? Can you tell me 😉
If anyone needed a breath of fresh air when the concrete walk way and the stinging sound of sirens and honking felt suffocating and exhausting, there is fun and relaxation in strolling in your parks. Aside from the obvious green area of Central Park, I loved the Brooklyn Bridge Park where my friend and I got to have a humble picnic; with the magical view over Manhattan in the dark contrast of what you do best which is to gleam lights and inspire us with your beauty. We hopped on a yellow cab and asked to go to Pier 11. I had the idea of getting on a ferry to have a good gaze at the scintillant Brooklyn Bridge by the night. My friend and I cheered with red wine in plastic cups (lack of sophistication here, not me!) set ourselves up on a butt- frozen stairwell of the Brooklyn Bridge Park. We had some crackers dipped in olive paste and some (unidentifiable) cheese. Despite the blazing cold where my fingers and toes stopped responding to my commands, I very much enjoyed taking you in for a brief and calm sudden moment.

After filling our stomach at Mr. Tuka Ramen (170 Allen St.), we needed to walk it off a bit right so we headed towards world renown Comedy Cellar to test your sense of humor. Are you that funny? Unfortunately you are ever so crowded so we again ditched the queue and got some late drinks at the hotel. I served my friend some of the ice wine I got from my trip to Montreal the weekend before. It was so sweet but so tasty.

More sight seeing followed on our last day photographing the one World Trade Center and the memorial site, stopped by Wall Street to find the Charging Bull and the Fearless Girl. Finally walked towards the Battery Park to have a peak at the Statue of Liberty from a far distance. But on our way to Sunday Brunch, not Egg Shop,151 Elizabeth St.), not the Butcher’s Daughter (19 Kenmare St.) (the queue estimated to be 1 hour waiting time so no thanks!!) got a green juice (must have Matcha Fizz made of matcha, fresh lime, honey and rosemary ) at the Cafe Integral (149 Elizabeth St.) and amazing classic Persian food instead (Ravagh Persian Grill, 125 1st Ave.). On our way there, I got to see life through Greenwich village. Kids playing at the playground and youngsters shooting hoops. And other people brunching too. The Persian grill was phenomenal! I’d recommend to anyone! And finally time was up!

Until next time darling, we’ll have another date! I promise 😉

Slide Away: Examining the Art of the Instagram Photo-Dump
Tumblr media
VANCOUVER, B.C. – You might call it a soft cultural reset.
12 weeks ago, plain black squares started popping up on Instagram.
The moment, originally deemed #TheShowMustBePaused, but eventually known as #BlackOutTuesday, started as a day of action for the music industry, organized by two black women – Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang.
Spoiler: it didn't end that way.
Thomas and Agyemang's mission to "hold the [music] industry at large, including major corporations + their partners who benefit from the effort, struggles and successes of Black people accountable," was quickly forgotten. Instead, well-meaning celebrities and civilians co-opted their idea, and ran it into the ground, pivoting from #TheShowMustBePaused to #BlackOutTuesday, a broader, but still well-intentioned protest intended to amplify the work and voice of the black community. It was alright idea in theory, but in practice #BlackOutTuesday accomplished little, with most users posting a black square on their Instagram feed before logging off. Mission accomplished.
While nobody ever said it had to make total sense, #BlackOutTuesday quickly became a case study in the pitfalls of online activism, as people smarter than Drake, Kylie Jenner and Rhianna (but not smarter than Lil Nas X) pointed out that the squares weren't really all that helpful, and in some cases actually hindered people's ability to find black resources, as misguided users paired their posts with the #blacklivesmatter hashtag.
Their ability to do the bare minimum and still feel good about it compromised, many users started deleting their squares. Overnight, thousands of posts amplifying #BlackOutTuesday quietly disappeared without a word. A quick scan of Instagram shows roughly 22.6M posts still carry the #BlackOutTuesday hashtag, but many aren’t what you’d expect, with wannabe influencers coopting the hashtag for content that has little to do with the black experience.
So it seemed, the world moved on.
But while #BlackOutTuesday feels like a footnote in a year marked by violence, disease and protest, it appears to have influenced several new trends on Instagram. Following the incident, there first appeared to be a decrease of in-feed content from self-identifying allies. From June to about mid-July Instagram stories, rather than in-feed posts, became the primary means of sharing escapist quarantine activities. Baking bread or social distanced nature walks, previously considered prime content, were effectively relegated to the sidelines, allowing more serious topics to achieve the sort of permanence only found in-feed. A cynic might call this performative, sure, but the relative silence made space for new voices; in particular, social justice slideshows, which started popping up in late May, but truly proliferated in the weeks following #BlackOutTuesday, as BLM and other racial equality protests spread at home and abroad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While none of these changes aligned with the original goals of #TheShowMustBePaused, it seemed the #BlackOutTuesday backlash had an unintended effect: Instagram suddenly felt useful. Instead of dealing solely with photos and captions, the app was a hotbed of information and dialogue, suggesting Instagram was a platform that could impact social change. The only question was, would it last?
The answer, it would seem, is “probably not”. While social justice still lives on, particularly in stories (depending on your feed), the self-awareness that inspired mass-sharing of social justice content appears to transformed into a new, and more complicated fad: the photo-dump.
For the uninitiated, a photo-dump involves diving into your photo album and sharing a series of images in an Instagram slideshow. The trend watchers at Elite Daily describe the method as a "roundup" of (3 – 10) photos shared during, or immediately after an event, with minimal editing. Like the social justice slideshows that predated them, photo-dumps aim for high impact with minimal footprint, squeezing several shots into one post, rather than clogging the feed (which, at present, still feels like a cardinal sin).
While they don’t go so far to define what an ‘event’ is, my extremely expert social media analysis indicates the term could apply to practically anything. Saw your friends for some socially distanced hangs? Dump it. Hiked 3 mountains with your friends and saw a cute marmot? Dump it. Cat drinking out of a mug? You know what to do.
Tumblr media
In all instances, the key to a good photo-dump appears to be what I call careless curation. Cute loosies are combined with interesting scenics and meticulously framed thot pics, giving viewers an opaque sense of intimacy, and the overall vibe of the event.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the trend has caught steam with several celebrities, who are utilizing the format to project authenticity while also maintaining an aura of the aspirational. Like most users, celebs appear to reserve their photo-dumps for trips or other key life events. Drake stares reflectively at the blue waters surrounding his boat (seemingly alone). Kim Kardashian West takes her family stand up paddle boarding, while wearing her husband’s extremely expensive foam clog. Halsey treks around the continental United States, as COVID cases continue to climb in several communities.
None, however, hold a candle to Dua Lipa, who, amidst album promotion and the sincere amplification of several legitimate causes, has posted no less than 10 photo-dumps to her feed since June 2. The themes range from extravagant to economical: one set shows her romantic mid-quarantine escape to St. Lucia, another captures a large backyard birthday party with friends. In a dump shared in the middle of writing this article (!!!), Lipa turns the camera on her friends and partner, model Anwar Hadid. The photos, possibly snapped while shooting the video for her next single, serve the same function as “behind-the-scenes” features of decades past. That is, using outtakes or failed attempts as a means of authenticity – suggesting viewers are getting the full picture, albeit one captured and approved by the star. By swinging between the two extremes, Dua Lipa's feed strikes social media’s version of  ‘balance’, walking the fine line between aspirational and authentic.
Or rather, the appearance of the authentic.
Tumblr media
In 1967′s Society of the Spectacle, Guy Debord argued humans have had their authentic selves stripped away by the capitalist economy. In Debord’s view, we are no longer beings, defined by actions, skills or behaviours. Instead, he says, social life has shifted, first to having and then appearing; where once you might have used raw materials to craft a ring, consumer capitalism evolved to the point where you can now buy, or even rent, a ring – with no understanding of the labour that went into it. Key in all this, Debord argues, are images, which have become society’s primary way means of relating to each other.
This ability to project a version of yourself is, of course, baked into social media. But it finds new life in the photo-dump. A 10 photo slideshow of Dua Lipa and Anwar Hadid in St. Lucia may give you a sense of what it’s like to visit the Caribbean: to sit under a palm cabana, or feel the summery rain drip off your bucket hat  – but it isn’t the full picture. It doesn’t provide an authentic experience, other than that of looking at some carelessly curated images.
Debord would likely say the photo-dump is just the latest illusion designed to distract us from the pitfalls of capitalism. And maybe he’s right. As I sit here, scrolling through Lipa’s photos, it occurs to me that Instagram was at its most useful when life was on hold. The wheels of capitalist production never fully stopped, but they were forced to momentarily slow-down as society grappled with a (hopefully) once in a lifetime situation. #BlackOutTuesday felt like a step  in the wrong direction, but the ensuing weeks proved that social media, like any other tool, is really only as useful as the human’s operating it. When we care about society, Instagram cares about society. By echoing the self-awareness embedded in social justice slide shows, photo-dumps feel like a bridge between narcissism and selflessness. Whether we make it to the other side, remains to be seen.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH...
My travels for the latter part of this week have taken me off the beaten path of my usual commute and as far as Mon Repos on the East Coast of Demerara to visit the Guyana School of Agriculture.  I should be back there during next week and so I will reserve writing on the two trips there for a later date.
However, I was indeed fortunate to visit the Guyana Shop on Robb Street near Bourda Market, Georgetown Guyana, where I learnt a surprising fact:  there are over 700 locally made products on the shelves of stores across Guyana and in the Guyana Shop which are being promoted and marketed by the Guyana Marketing Corporation!
Just think about it, condiments of all types, seasonings and the usual products we may know of from Sari, Continental, Banks DIH and DDL jostle for position with ‘Strokus’ wine, chocolate sticks for teas, cleaning products and myriad other brands that are all proudly produced by Guyanese.  Many of these products are also produced and packaged right at the Guyana School of Agriculture!
I challenge you to make a trip to the Guyana Shop, or alternatively, when shopping, look for Guyanese products to support, including niche products like honey as an alternative sweetener for your health and gluten free flours like sweet potato flour and breadfruit flour for the best baked products and more.

Asia-Pacific Food Coatings Market Size Growing at a CAGR of 7.1% Forecast to 2025
Food coating is the process of applying or coating an edible item on the surface of a food product to aid in the cooking process. The food coatings considered in the report include predusts, batters, breadings, specialty crumbs, oven coatings, tempura batters, and others. These coatings are available in several forms and textures, and each form has different applications. For example, batters can be used to avoid moisture loss while preparing delicate food items such as tender meat or fish. In addition, breadings have become a popular option that are applied as coatings to fried or baked foods to achieve crunchy texture.
Asia-Pacific food coatings market size was $572.00 million in 2017, and is projected to reach $990.41 million by 2025, registering a CAGR of 7.1% from 2018 to 2025. In 2017, the meat & seafood segment accounted for more than one-third of the share in the Asia-Pacific market in terms of value.
Increase in popularity of fast-food restaurants majorly boosts the growth of the Asia-Pacific food coatings market. China and Japan are the largest consumers of food coatings, owing to the presence of large urban population base and surge in number of quick-service restaurants (QSRs) such as McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Subway, and Dunkin Donuts. These outlets rely on the use of food coatings such as batter, breading, oven coating, predust, and others to improve taste and visual appeal of the served food items, thereby fueling the market growth. In addition, growth of retail chains in India, China, Thailand, Vietnam, and others leads to huge availability of food coatings as well as beef, pork, poultry, seafood, and other meat products. Food coatings serve as the important ingredients that are used while cooking fried and crusted meat, which further increases their demand, thereby driving the Asia-Pacific food coatings market growth. In 2017, the predust coatings type accounted for the highest market share in the Asia-Pacific region, and is anticipated to grow at a significant CAGR of 5.4% during the forecast period. Predust or duster is a type of food coat, which contains unprocessed flour or a blend of egg whites, starch, and other minor ingredients such as spices and salts. It is dusted over a food item to prepare the surface of a substrate before the second coat is applied to it.

In 2017, the meat & seafood segment accounted for the highest market share in the Asia-Pacific food coatings market. Meat & seafood products are rich in essential minerals, and micro- & macronutrients, especially vitamin B12, iron, zinc, selenium, and protein. These products can be cooked in a variety of ways in which food coatings help enhance the organoleptic properties and visual appeal of the cooked meat & seafood products. Moreover, rise in the affluent population coupled with the emergence of busy life supplements the growth of the coatings market.
However, rise in costs of production due to fluctuating ingredient prices hampers the Asia-Pacific food coating market growth. In addition, increase in health concerns such as obesity, heart disease, liver damage, and diabetes associated with fried food is anticipated to lower the demand of fast food, which in turn limits the adoption of food coatings. Conversely, surge in investments by players in R&D to produce gluten-free flours for batters is expected to provide opportunities of growth for the food coatings market in the Asia-Pacific region.
