The film tells the story of two girls tormented by emotional uncertainty. During the First World War, 15-year-old Anka (Dana Droppová) comes to work as a maid in the Prague villa of a high-ranking Austro-Hungarian official (Karel Dobrý) and his wife (Zuzana Mauréry). Anka's new family becomes the remaining servants - the cook Kristína (Anna Geislerová), the maid Líza (Vica Kerekes) and the gardener Štefan (Lukáš Pelč). But besides them, she also acquires an arch enemy - the equally old daughter of the manor family, Resi (Radka Caldová). However, the animosity gradually turns into sympathy and a romantic relationship develops between the young women. All this at a time when women didn't even have the right to vote, let alone the right to the love of their choice. Will their relationship manage to survive or will it fall foul of the norms and rules of the time?
