He listens to it every night. In the dark of his appartment, the sound echoes as if it all happens here, the sound of smashed glass and Scully’s cries mingling until the tape ends.

It’s nothing more than an illusion. If it had happened here, maybe he could have done something. He could have pushed Duane Barry through the damn wall, crashed his head against it until the man couldn’t do anything to Scully. He could have held her, shielding her.

If it had happened here, maybe Scully would still be here, with him. Alive. Safe.

Not gone to God knows where.

Not potentially dead.

He closes his eyes against the thought, but the image of her dismembered body follows him, crawling underneath its lids, carving itself on his pupils. He can’t escape it. It’s everywhere.

He failed her. It’s all his goddamn fault.

‘’I’m sorry,’’ he croaks when the sound of the broken glass echoes for the thousand time, almost drowning her gasp of terror. He imagines it, laying on his couch, fingers digging in his palm. How her blue eyes widened, how she stumbled back to escape Barry, how she fell on the ground and begged for his help.

‘’I need your help !’’ Her voice breaks on a grunt, but he can still feels her fear as if its own, seeping underneath his own flesh, digging and tearing his guts, making his heart gallop in his chest. He wonders if she thought he would save her. If she waited for him until the end, staring at the inky stars on Skyland Mountain, forced to walk towards her doom. He wonders if she would ever forgive him for being late. ‘’Mulder !’’

It’s gut-wrenching to hear her again and again, his name so unfamiliar in her voice distorted by terror. He hates it, dreams of it at night, wakes up to the sound of her screaming. It’s etched onto his brain, the only thing his ears can hear.

It’s his punishment. Every nights, he listens to it. It will only stop when he finds her again.

It’s his only way to be absolved.

‘’Mulder !’’

The lump in his throat has claws, and each of it plunge inside his flesh, tears out arteries and vocal chords, windpipe and oesophagus. He dies on his couch again and again, every time he listens to this tape.

When it’s over, he lays still, eyes on the ceiling. And he talks.

‘’I’m sorry I wasn’t here, Scully,’’ he says to the empty room, to her, lost, somewhere beyond the stars. ‘’I’m sorry I wasn’t with you when it happened. I should have find you sooner. I should have tried harder. Maybe it would have changed things. Maybe he would have taken me instead.’’ It rises before he can stop it, blossoming in his chest, scorching and acid like bile, falling out of his lips. ‘’I wish it had been me.’’

The only answer he gets is silence.

It’s the only things he deserves.

Something ugly escapes him, a broken sound. Too raw. Too sharp. Too Scully-shaped hole. ‘’I’m doing it again, aren’t I ? Feeling sorry for myself. Shut up, Mulder.’’ The tears burn but he welcomes the pain with open arm, cradles it close to his chest, like a child with a plushie. He knows pain intimately. He knows it more than he knows his own damn parents. ‘’Just fucking shut up.’’

The heel of his palms cover his eyes, press against the wetness there.

‘’I’m sorry,’’ he chokes again, ‘’I wish you were here, Scully.’’

Silence weighs on his chest, constricts his lungs. He rewinds the tape and settles back on his couch, closing his eyes.

Like, I feel old and I don't feel old. I feel like time is shifting around at random for me while others are moving forward at a pretty steady pace. It's like being the Ghosts of Christmas, but, like, an everyday thing.

I'm old enough to do my taxes, but young enough to find that texture of food just icky enough to throw it away without even trying to eat it, but mature enough to understand the importance of teaching consent to children, but giddy enough to wax poetic about Sonic the Hedgehog, but irritated by the way the internet is changing to be all about kids while not being about kids at all, but the kind of person who stims with joy after spending time with my dad.

A very conflicting and confusing state of being. I kinda morph around like The Thing, but less about the consuming people and more about the wanting to become the Mothman instead, because at least I'd be something of my own without needing to put on someone else's face to feel like I exist.

I do, though. Exist, I mean.

I'm a bit nebulous. Perhaps ill-fitted for long-term survival. The eugenicists would love me dead, that's for sure.

The release of TABINOF! I already know I’m going to write way too much about this video...

0:00 - filming this intro from a hotel in Glasgow (1, 2), because the tour also started there on this day

0:08 - that’s a lot longer to work on something than they had ever done before for anything they made

0:28 - Phil is just fond smiling in the background so much. The trailer was released back in March of 2015. The explanation video is no longer public.

0:48 - back almost a whole year! To sometime after they had put their tree up while filming A Festive Day in the Life of Dan and Phil! apparently. Why did they film this with Dan on a chair and Phil on the floor? The angle is so weird.

1:00 - the “something made of metal” Dan got Phil for Christmas 2014 is the “tin for my random crap” Phil shows in I'M IN A MOVIE!

1:13 - I love when Phil catches himself staring at Dan for too long and jerks back to face the camera and always looks a little sheepish

1:20 - every time Dan talks about TABINOF you can tell it means so much to him

I love this video. I love that they filmed all these moments and shared them. If you count this as a DITL video, it might be my second favorite one of those. This was again on Dan’s channel, as most of the TABINOF-related content was.

As a countdown in the days leading up to the release, they shared little snippets on Instagram and Twitter each day - Dan (5, 4, 3, 2, 1); Phil (5, 4, 3, 2, 1).

Part 26 of Biases and Expectations

Perhaps Xanxus underestimated the amount of work that taking care of Antonio meant.

He's seen his wife do it, every night and every morning. He's seen it take its toll on her sometimes. Watching and doing are two different things, Xanxus should have remembered that. And yet, Xanxus's own pride won't let him get away with leaving Antonio's care to the maid or summoning his wife to the Iron Fort. "Fuck." Xanxus sighs, kneeling to peek at his son who is curled up under the bed. "Kid, come here. You need a shower." 

"No!" Antonio wails, small face pressed against his plushie. "Mama!" 

Right. Xanxus sits down. "Fine, no shower." Fuck the shower. He could just lift the bed and grab the kid but Antonio seems miserable enough and Xanxus would rather not destroy their relationship this quickly. "No shower, ok? Happy?" 

His son just keeps crying.

"You had fun, didn't you?" Antonio did, he made friends easily. "Let's just sleep and you can play again tomorrow." 

"Mama," Antonio hiccups. He's not even listening to Xanxus. 

Fine. Xanxus plasters himself to the floor, army crawling his way until he's laying right next to his son. "Hey, you'll see your mama this monday, ok? Just two more days." 

Antonio hiccups but presses his face against Xanxus's chest. 

He grunts, cupping his son's head. "Ok?" 

"Ansus," Antonio curls closer, fingers tight around his plushie. 

Xanxus. It's mangled but it's his name. Xanxus clicks his tongue. It's the first time his son has directly called him; usually Xanxus sees him asleep or from a distance, he watches as Emilia looks after him or carries him when Antonio is sleepy and Emilia needs a free hand. And yet… he calls his wife mama and Xanxus by his name. It says something about their relationship. "Papa."

Of course, Antonio doesn't pay attention to him. Xanxus huffs but hums a little tune he's heard Emilia sing to the kid. It takes a while but Antonio falls asleep, more out of exhaustion than anything else. "Right." Xanxus grabs him and texts Squalo to lift the bed. 

"Poor dear," Lussuria flutters closer as soon as Xanxus stands. "He must be exhausted." 

"Clearly." Xanxus stalks to the bag Emilia prepared, fishing for the pack of wipes. "I've got to figure this out or tomorrow is going to be the same." 

Lussuria deflates. "He doesn't like me."

"He doesn't know you." And he probably never will, not as well as Lussuria wishes. Having a closer relationship with his son would require spending time with Emilia and she's already made it clear she's not impressed with Lussuria's offer of friendship. 

"...Boss, you could…"

"I won't," Xanxus knows he's not angry with them but he's furious regardless. He sits down on the bed, his son still fully dressed and asleep in his arms. "I didn't intercede on her behalf with you, I won't do it for you either." Not to mention that Xanxus has this thing set in the right fucking direction, he's not messing it up over his Elements' bullshit.

Squalo watches Lussuria slump but doesn't reach out for the Sun. "What now?" 

Xanxus waves him away, "I'll figure it out."
