In the depths of the ancient cave, where secrets whispered on the tongues of flickering flames, a tapestry of enigmatic connections unfolded. Amidst the twilight's dance, a wolf and a celestial being converged, their presence a mystifying blend of incongruity and solace. Within your sacred culinary domain, where flavors mingled and aromas beckoned, you fashioned a feast befitting the grandeur of a dragon's palate.
Yet, before indulging in the succulent bounty, a hand, gentle and fleeting, graced your exposed waist, rousing your senses. Your tail unfurled, a graceful serpentine motion, while wings and shoulders instinctively tensed. A deep, resonant chuckle, brimming with untamed echoes, stirred the air, drawing your gaze to the source of amusement.
"Jake Sully," you hissed playfully, your voice a melodious incantation, "beware the sinuous nature of dragons. To venture unnoticed is to court a dance with death. Even the wolf holds wisdom beyond your grasp."
A dance of banter and camaraderie ensued, as growls and smirks painted the canvas of their interaction. Jake, a steadfast presence, approached with reverence, his hands finding solace upon your rump. Growls mingled, fangs revealed, yet beneath the playful exchange lay an undercurrent of respect, a symphony of dominance and submission.
Amidst this delicate interplay, a sentient silence descended upon the cave. From the shadows, a familiar figure emerged, drawn inexorably to your side. In his embrace, you found sanctuary, your wings enveloping him with a tender embrace. The intertwining of souls transcended words, as the purity of your connection spoke volumes.
In a voice that trailed like a serpentine whisper, you soothed the tormented spirit. "Hush, Muerte, does Gatiot still haunt your dreams? Let the currents of fate guide him, for his path must unfold in its own time. Release the chains of your pursuit, and grant him the freedom to discover his destiny. Your vigil has endured, a testament to your unwavering resolve."
The weight of truth bore upon Muerte's visage, his gaze intermingling with yours in a frosty exchange. Resolute yet burdened, he retreated into the ephemeral shadows, his purpose awaiting fulfillment in the tapestry of existence.
Beside Jake, you now found respite, the three of you gathered around the sacred hearth, where sustenance merged with the essence of life. A tableau of unconventional kinship, forged in the crucible of extraordinary bonds, embraced the fragile harmony of the moment. In this twilight realm, where love defied logic and loyalty defied convention, you savored the enigma of existence, each morsel a testament to the interconnectedness of souls entwined.

Headcanos on how Death would act in a Relationship ❤️‍🩹
Tumblr media
(might include some stuff from my first headcanon post)
_____________________________________________
- PROTECTIVE
- Being Death himself means he obviously can't be around you 24/7. But when he's there he will make sure no one and nothing bothers you
- No matter how busy he is, he will come by every night. Will give you a kiss and whisper he loves you if you're already asleep
- Will still try to spend as much time with you as possible. Around you, he sometimes forgets who/what he is. He just feels so alive when you're there
- Flowers? Flowers!
- but not the basics like roses or lilies (unless u want that ofc) will get you your favorite flowers or randomly pick some daisy's and give them to you cause "they're small and pretty like you" (daisy's are underrated)
- he also gives you shiny rocks, coins, buttons.. hell even sticks. Will say something like " this made me think of you so i thought you might like it" with puppy dog eyes and floppy ears.
- will also write love letter's and small notes for you <3
- Also be careful to mention if you want/ need something, Cause it will "magically" appear the next day. If you ask him about it he will play dumb and act like he doesn't know what you're talking about.
- you get sick? This guy won't leave your side until you feel better.
- You're cold? Gives you his Poncho. You need comfort? Gives you his Poncho. You don't need anything in particular? Still, give you his Poncho.
- he just loves seeing you in it ok? let him be
- will unintentionally jumpscare you all the time
- like, he will come up behind you and give you a hug out of nowhere
- he might be romantic but he's also a tease
- he just loves it when you're a flustered and stuttering mess.
- you want to get back at this for teasing you? Put your hand under his snoot, pull him close to you and tell him he's a good boy.
- bro will MELT

Cold
Tumblr media
¤ Pairing: Death x [Reader]
Word Count: 277
Note: Soooo apparently theres not a lot of fics with this sexy wolf man. 😭 So I made my own. Enjoy!
Hey if you like this [here] is another one.
The sudden still and stagnant feeling of the small cottage immediately alerted you to his presence. The air became colder making you pull the small blanket closer to your shivering frame. The heat provided by the fireplace no longer felt sufficient.
Still you did not turn to acknowledge your uninvited guest causing him to let out a small huff of amusement, and you were sure that if you could see his face, his mouth would be pulled up in a grin.
"Still ignoring me, cordera?" His deep voice asked, sounding louder than it actually was in small living room.
You say nothing and continue to blankly stare at the flickering flames of the fireplace, your hands fiddling with the smooth fabric of the blanket, trying your best to tune out his voice.
His shadow falls over you, making the already dark room feel darker. One of his clawed hands come to rest on your shoulder and you tense up. His grip was neither tight nor threatening and yet it still felt like his hand weighed a thousand pounds.
His large body leans over you and his snout stops right next to your ear. He was so close you could probably count his sharp teeth individually.
"No need to be so tense, cordera", he begins and let's out a small hum.. His hands leaves your body, and you let out the breath you didn't know you had been holding in.
You think you're safe until he suddenly appears in front of you and his glowing red eyes meet yours.
"It's not your time, yet."
And then he's gone, taking the chill with him.

Death Comes Knocking
Tumblr media
AN: Not finishing projects seems to be the norm right now- so just take this lil 1,000 words of Lobo/Muerte x reader bc he gave me brain worms okay? Puss in Boots The Last Wish was so good you guys omg.
Pairing: Muerte x Female Reader
Rating: T
Summary: She's given a stern warning. 'No more of your kind are allowed' so she extends an offer to Death in return.
---
She’s seen him before, on the faces of those she’d loved. Their eyes would glaze over and become empty, void of all animation, becoming quiet and still as they took their last breaths. There- in the right hand corner of that glassy void in their pupils- the shadow of Death could be briefly seen, passing over and stealing all light.
The silk spinner has witnessed this countless times- from the luxury of these people’s bedsides as they peacefully passed, to freak accidents involving one too many drunken unicorns and a travelling puppet show. The world she inhabited was colourful, vibrant and endless- so it stood to reason that in this world, Death himself could be a real, breathing creature.
She just never expected to gain a personal audience with him.
“You’re becoming lonesome, inmortal.”
The woman jumped, startled so badly she lost grip on the white sheet she’d been taking down. A large hand snapped out to catch it mid-air, slowly lowering it back down to her in offering. It took a moment for her frozen hands to accept it, gazing up at the creature looming over her washing line. His shadow swallowed her whole. He gazed at her with a kind of unblinking- red eyed fixation- the kind that betrayed his identity before the suffocatingly still atmosphere did, as if time itself had frozen.
A wolf had entered her garden.
“Hate to be a bother…but when you get lonely it becomes a problem for me,” he continued in his perfectly polite tone. There was a faint, gravelly edge to his voice, but it hummed pleasantly in her ears rather than frightened her.
Recovering from her shock, the silk spinner folded her sheet and placed it atop a waiting pile.
“How so?” she found her voice.
“Well, you repeat the cycle, of course- the one that led you here,” he wandered around her humble garden, taking care to weave around bird feeders and windchimes without so much as a strand of fur brushing them. He moved on two legs like any human, not an odd sight. The graceful fluidity of his movements was alarming though. Deliberate and predatory. He was looping around her in a lazy circle that was slowly tightening. “It’s only natural…everyone’s predictable in a few certain ways: one of them is the universal truth that when you get lonely, you seek company,” he mused, finally stopping before her. “And the company of mortals just isn’t cutting it anymore, is it? Hm, my friend?”
He stood a good several feet taller than her. Not even attempting to crane her neck up, the woman tidied her basket and lifted it as if readying to walk back into her tiny cottage. “I’m fine. I don’t need anyone. They all die eventually, I’m not sure why you’re worried.”
With that said she took a step, only to find her wicker basket snagging on something- a sickle. The wolf practically used it as a fish-hook, turning her back to face him, and this time she had no choice but to gaze down the grey expanse of his muzzle straight into those vibrant red eyes.
“You’re not listeniiing~” he sing-songed in a gentle, cajoling tone full of too much teeth. He tilted his head with a patronising smile. “What cycle led you here?”
As if she could forget. “My creator was…lonely,” she murmured. “So, he made me, and eventually more of my kind.”
“Right you are! And I’m not such a big fan of that. Of your…kind,” a single deadly claw skimmed her cheek in a whisper of steel on flesh. The suggestion of it sent her heart racing. “You’re all so heavy. I can feel you.” All at once the playfulness vanished from his expression, leaving only a quiet sense of malice and frustration in his tight whisper. “The world won’t withstand the weight of too many of you.”
“So you’re here to stop me before I can even think about creating more immortals, is that it?”
“Bingo! My work here is done,” the wolf leaned back with satisfaction, and it felt like the garden could breathe again. Air entered her lungs, and the silk spinner shuddered quietly when his shadow drew away, allowing sunlight to kiss her skin anew.
With his silent warning given, the wolf swung his previously concealed sickle up onto his shoulder and happily strolled toward her humble gate, whistling an eerie tune.
“I’m not afraid of you,” she murmured, so quietly it was a surprise he heard her at all. But he halted immediately in his tracks. She could see his hackles rise a little just beneath the folds of his hood. “I’m not afraid, so there’s no reason for me to listen to you- Muerte.”
Death turned and met her even gaze. His silver fur fanned gently in the breeze, his tail flicking with agitation.
“Oho I really don’t think you want to go there,” light glinted off his sharp rows of teeth, the points glinting like treacherous mountain peaks. “True I can’t harvest your soul, but you’ve seen the life flashing before people’s eyes as I’ve taken them.”
He was suddenly there before her again, tilting her chin up with the flat of his blade. Her body automatically tensed, watching as the black specs of his pupils shined white, two moons hanging in a blood-soaked sky. “You were there, just as much as I was. You know- cordera- how painful it can be. How painful I can make it,” hot, panting breath fanned over her upturned face. Those rows of teeth were now inches from her ear as he leaned in close. “You won’t die, no- but are you really prepared to suffer me, over and over again, for breaking the rules?”
She swallowed. It was impossible not to picture the numerous grizzly ways she’d seen or heard people die.
Satisfaction leaked into his animalistic features. “Heh, thought so. Be seeing you.”
But I…I’m still alone.
Before he turned away, Death seemed to notice her expression. “If you’re really that hungry for company, then find the other heavy ones weighing this world down.”
“I don’t uh- get on well with the others,” she admitted weakly, knuckles relaxing from her death grip on the wicker basket. “We’d be living together if we enjoyed each other’s company.”
“Touché.“ He shrugged his large shoulders, resting a sickle on one with a bored look. “Well it’s not my problem, figure it out on your own time.”
Alarm flashed through her chest inexplicably as he finally turned away.
“Wait-“
“Carajo!” he hissed, glaring at her like she’d overstayed her welcome despite him being the one to approach her home. “What is it now?”
“Since you’re the one who has a problem with me creating fellow immortals- but I’m still hungry for company- the solution is right under our noses, no?” She smiled and dropped her basket to spread her arms wide, gesturing to the humble space situated on the mountainside. “You will become my companion.”
It amused her to see his dark features become blank with genuine surprise. His triangular ears perched upon his head flicked and flattened to his skull as if he’d tasted something sour.
“Cómo fue?”
“You are Death incarnate,” she said, confidence filling her tone the more she spoke. Yes- why hadn’t she thought of it before? This was perfect. “You won’t die- and I can’t be killed and won’t age. It makes sense to keep each other company.”
“You want…my company? Mine?” He shot her a look like she was crazy.
“Is that a problem?”
He tilted his head, falling silent for a long, silent moment. His eyes narrowed, sweeping over her frame as he stalked closer. “…You must be starving very badly, if your need has driven you to beg for me to be in your midst. Only the souls of the suicidal and desperate call for me.”
“I’m not quite that far gone in my apathy for life. I’m 500 years young,” she smiled, offering her human hand out to his monstrously large, silver furred one to stop him from baring too harshly down on her, stopping him in his tracks. “But yes, I am…famished,” the admission slipped out oddly breathlessly, though she was uncertain why.
His mouth slowly upturned, sizing her up in an entirely different way from before. Intrigue, perhaps? He looked just as hungry as she felt.
“Well, well. What big eyes you have,” he purred, gazing at her intently with a wicked gleam in his own red hues.
She returned his smile with one full of teeth as her hand became engulfed in fur and warmth.
From that day on, Pygmalion’s immortal bride kept Death’s company whenever he had a moment to spare.

Death with a human reader who can see spiritual beings and that's why they see Death lurking in the background. Got mortified and awkward when Death caught reader staring at him so intently.
He started appearing around them more often after that.
Or
Death with a tiger reader(who has nine lives cuz yknow, cats) who will gladly sacrifice themselves to save others although recklessly and uselessly. A few of those lives weren't even worth giving up if reader chose a different route.
Death disappointed in reader's actions so he went and confronted them just to try and figure out why.
P.S can we please tag Death as #death the wolf #pib the wolf
Sounds much easier to search later on

Chapter One: Table 7a.
Tumblr media
'I am definitely a morning person.'
You thought to yourself as the sunlight from your bedroom window basically blinded you. You sighed, it must be 10am. You always woke up at 10am. No alarm needed, somehow your body knew what awaited it and got itself up without much help.
'I am absolutely a morning person.'
You tried to convince yourself as you stretched and felt all of the stiffness from sleep crackled and popped itself away. You finally summoned the energy to stand and immediately a shiver shot up from your feet to your head. The floor was ice cold, making you want to jump back into the sunny warmth of your bed. But instead, with a heavy sigh you treaded forward into your bathroom. You splashed warm water on your face and when you did you realized your face was cold as well, and the water felt nice. You let the water form a shallow pool in your hands and gently placed your face there.
'Maybe you really are a morning person.'
The thought crossed your mind only to be quickly interrupted by the sound of loud knocking on your front door.
You hastily patted your face dry and rushed to the door to see your long-time friend, Mateo standing there, looking more guilty than a murderer in Church.
"Don't be mad-" he started before you cut him off with a whiny retort.
"Noo Mateo don't do this to me pleasee." You begged, trying to avoid the inevitable B.S you knew was gonna come out of Mateo's mouth.
"I'm sorry Y/N, but Diego got hammered last night and he's really sick this morning, I even went over to check, just to make sure he wasn't lying and the poor kid is throwing up chunks. There's no way he can work, can you pleaaase work a double, por favorrr."
You sighed, knowing that you were definitely going to cover for him, but you were absolutely going to complain to yourself about it all morning.
"I am NOT a morning person, Mateo...but fine. I will come in, give me an hour and I'll be there and before you ask, sí, you do owe me, as well as Diego."
"Wait what, I'm just the messeng-" Mateo blurted before being interrupted with a playful "Adíos" and the door being shut in his face.
While getting ready to start your work day hours earlier than usual you cursed everything under the sun.
Curse your anxiety for making it so you would work at the same bar for 6 years, too afraid of new settings and people to ever try and get another job.
Curse Deigo for not knowing his drinking limits, forcing you to come in early instead of following your usual morning routine that you clung to so tightly.
Curse your need for control over your life, making you feel so overwhelmed and anxious when simple things like covering for a coworker occurs unexpectantly.
Curse life for being so difficult all the time.
Curse death too because if you were immortal you wouldn't have to worry about any of this at all.
You chuckled at your mini rant in your head before heading off to work at the bar that's been somewhat of a second home to you.
When you arrived at the bar, you took your usual position behind the counter, setting up your work area with clean glasses and making sure your kegs were ready. Your boss, Maria, placed a hand on your shoulder making you jump.
"Hola Y/N! Sorry to call you in like this, I know you already were gonna work the night shift but idiot one, Mateo, spent the after hours taking shots with idiot two, Diego, knowing he's a lightweight so, here we are, your lunch is on me today okay?" She gave you a reassuring smile before zipping away to take care of her duties.
You caught Mateo cleaning a table across the room and you shot him the coldest dirty look you could muster. No wonder he looked so nervous this morning, he was the main culprit. Mateo mouthed a pitiful "Sorry...love you!" while making a heart shape with his hands before running away out of your view into a backroom.
You sighed, and decided that you were going to try and make today a good day. At least at work you can escape your head. No room to overthink when you have to think about orders and drink making and cleaning tables.
Looking at a wall clock that read 11:34am, you decided to get lost in your work.
To your appreciation, the earlier work day went by fast. You saw the usual customers with their usual tales and problems and met a few newcomers who were just happy to see the bottom of a glass.
Checking the time again, it read 1:39am.
'Last call is at 2am, if I go fast I can be outta here by 3am.' You thought to yourself while drying some shot glasses.
Most of your coworkers bid you goodnight a while ago, they were lucky enough to only have one shift. You were left with Gabriella, a nice girl with good street smarts, and Maria, your ever so loving boss.
Gabriella bumped her hip into yours with a tired but happy smile on her face. She was always a bit of a space invader but she also was the first person to check in on you most times as well as defending you from customers who got a bit belligerent after too many drinks. So, you didn't mind her touchiness.
"Hanging in there Y/N? We're almost done! I'm ready for a nice hot bath tonight." she said while she picked up a few glasses, helping you get them clean.
"I'm definitely tired. When I see Mateo and Diego again they're never gonna hear the end of it....like...ever. I will haunt them in the afterlife, just watch Gabi, just watch."
Gabriella laughed before greeting Maria who then came behind the counter and got very close to you and Gabriella.
"Alright ladies, mira mira, table 7a.-"
You glanced up at the table that sat in the back corner of the bar, there sat a hooded figure, so tall they looked like they would tower over you even while sitting. You couldn't make out much of the figures face, except for a nose and mouth that definitely belongs to a wolf.
You were a little unsettled by them, afterall, if they wanted a late night drink, shouldn't they have approached the bar? Why sit in the dark, and why not speak to the bartender..? Are they looking for trouble?
Your thoughts were interrupted with the rest of Maria's sentence.
"He called me over, said he wants a Black Russian, I've got to count the drawers for the night so you two handle that..and be extra kind to him..seems like he's in a bad mood..."
Maria looks up at you both with a hint of concern in her eyes.
"If he causes trouble..call the coppers first...then me..kay'?"
Both you and Gabriella were a bit taken aback by Maria's request.
'Did he really give her that bad of a vibe?' you thought before returning your glance to the hooded figure. He now was looking up, and straight at all three of you. He had piercing red eyes that seemed illuminated no matter the lighting. You could swear you saw a small sinister grin on his face as he stared intently. You suddenly felt so uneasy, and unsafe. Your heart quickened its pace so you forced yourself to look away. Maria had apparently already left and you turned your head to see Gabriella caught in the same petrified state you were in.
"Gabi-" you started only to be cut off by her somewhat shaky voice. She snapped her head to look you in the eyes.
"Y/N, I'll wash the dishes, wipe the tables, sweep the floors and even prepare the kegs for tomorrow. But I'm not serving him."
"Gabi, you don't have to do all tha-"
Gabriella took another glance at the hooded figure and whatever she saw made her have visible goosebumps.
"I'll start now." She chirped quickly before dashing into the backroom.
You looked back at table 7a, and now there was no mistaking it. He was smiling. A bit wider than he was before as well. He found something funny, and for some reason, that gave you the same goosebumps Gabriella had.
You didn't want to trigger an anxiety attack, which were at times unfortunately frequent for you, so you figured you would just make his drink, the quicker you can get this stranger out of here, the better.
His drink...
.......
His drink....
'What the hell did he order again???'
You cursed yourself for forgetting what Maria said he wanted. You cursed this strangers intense gaze for erasing all of the thoughts from your head. Maria kept her office locked while counting money, and there was no way Gabriella remembered since she never had the intention of serving him anyway.
You were gonna have to ask him.
'Shit.'
You grabbed your little notebook and pen from behind the counter before hesitantly making your way to table 7a.
You tried to keep your eyes down at the floor but you did glance up while making your way over and confirmed your suspicion that this wolf was staring you down all the way to his table. It left this ball of uneasiness in the pit of your stomach. You took a big but quiet breath in as you approached his table.
"Hola señor, I'll be serving you tonight, could you please remind me what your order was again?" You prayed your unease didn't show in your tone as you put on your best customer serving voice.
The wolf said nothing for a few seconds, staring at you with a smile that maybe would seem friendly on anyone else but him. Those seconds felt like an eternity as you took the time to see his face up close. His fur was white, with a dark mask like pattering over his eyes leading all the way down his snout. Despite the ghastly hood that might have suggested otherwise, his fur looked soft. You admittedly thought about what it would feel like to touch it. You concluded that on closer inspection, he was a bit handsome.
"A Black Russian." His voice interrupted your shameless thoughts. His voice was deep, smooth and cold and had the inflection like he thought something was just a bit comical.
"Of course, coming right up." You quickly spun yourself around and sped walked away back to the safety of the counter.
In practically no time, the Black Russian was made. This time while walking back to the table you made sure to keep your eyes down. You wondered when the last time someone even ordered a Black Russian was.
When you reached his table, you desperately didn't want to meet his eyes again, they made you feel like you were frozen in place, staring hopelessly at something that looked like it kinda wanted to eat you. So instead you focused your sight on your hand placing the drink on the table, trying again to hide your uneasiness.
All the while, Death, unbeknownst to you, was having a bit of a fun time watching you. The way you had tapped your pen nervously on your notepad, the way you bounced from one foot to the other, biting your lower lip and desperately trying to avoid eye contact. And he especially took notice of the way your tail twitched now and again. He knew he made you unbelievably unnerved and you wanted nothing more than to escape the situation. And yet there you were, taking his order with the shakiest smile ever. You could've cowardly escaped to the backroom like your friend but you didn't. You endured his unsettling gaze and he admittedly loved every moment of it.
"Will that be all..it's the last call so.." Your voice finally gave in and you couldn't hide your uncomfortability towards the end of your sentence.
He decided he was having more fun than he planned to, and he wasn't finished torturing you yet. He licked his lips, and you took a shameful amount of interest in the size of his teeth and the way his tongue rolled over them.
"Actually, I meant to order a White Russian. Would you mind.." He looked up at you, giving a smirk that didn't hide his devious amusement.
It took you a second to find your train of thought.
"Right, a White Russian..so cream then, I'll be right back." you chirped before retreating once again to your counter.
While fetching the cream needed for his drink, Maria finally left the safety of the office, she had her coat on, so you guessed she was ready to leave. She glanced over to the wolf, before turning her gaze back onto you.
"Any trouble out of that one?"
Truthfully, despite feeling as though you wanted to run for the hills during your entire interaction with him, and having a hunch that you will never forget those daggers he has for eyes. He wasn't actually guilty of anything other than looking like serial killer. You couldn't truthfully claim he did anything worth being labeled trouble.
"No, he um, just wanted a White Russian instead." you stated while motioning with the small pitcher of cream in your hand. Maria breathed a sigh of relief.
"That's good, well Gabi seemed a little sick when I saw her last in the back so I sent her home, she didn't get to wipe the tables so that and locking up are your final tasks for the night. It's raining pretty hard so try and find a spare umbrella in the back. Night Y/N." Maria then made her way out of the back exit. Leaving you and the wolf in the bar alone.
. . .
Oh right, his White Russian.
You spun around to see him tapping his claw on the table. Guess you took too long, he no longer seemed as amused.
You zipped to his table, while simultaneously trying not to spill any cream. When you approached him he immediately startled you with his voice.
"Any longer and the ice would've melted..and I thought rabbits were meant to be fast." He gave a deep half chuckle.
You were almost offended at his comment, there wasn't a need for stereotypes, after all you could say a lot about him being a big scary wolf. Suddenly, you had newly sprung courage bubble up in you. You poured the cream carefully and decided to speak up.
"If you had ordered the right drink the first go around you wouldn't have to wait Señor Lobo. We all can't be perfect."
As soon as the words left your mouth, you desperately wanted to swallow them back up. Hesitantly, you peeked up at the wolf. For a second you thought you might've saw a surprised expression on his face before quickly being replaced by one of devious amusement once again. He gave a deep hearty laugh before downing his drink and licking his lips. You cursed yourself for focusing on his mouth so much.
He then abruptly stuck out his paw with a grin.
You hesitantly placed your hand in his and gave a small shake.
"Death." he spoke as he tilted his head slightly, not letting go of your hand.
"What? Wait like, that's your name or..are you wishing it on me?" You asked giving a fake chuckle, hoping that he wasn't actually wishing death on you.
"That's my name. And yours is?" He still held your hand, it was strangely cold for someone who was covered in so much fur.
"Y/N..Ramirez." You gave a small smile before gently trying to pull your hand back only for him to hold it tighter for a second longer before letting go.
You hadn't really thought too deeply into his name, you've met a lot of folks with all sorts of unique names, some they were given, others they came up with themselves. If anything, his name suited him well. You couldn't imagine if he had a name like..José or Luis.
"Well, Death..the bar is now closed and I've just got these tables to clean before locking up. It was..nice meeting you and I hope you come again." You gave him the same spiel you gave every new customer.
"Of course, enjoy the rest of your evening, Y/N," He said smoothly. You nodded and reached into your servers belt to fish out his receipt.
However, when you looked up to give it to him, he was gone, and on the table was a pile of gold coins that were worth more than what one lousy White Russian would cost.
You looked around in confusion as you didn't comprehend how he could've gotten past you without making a sound. Or how he could've left through the front doors without ringing the bells at the top. You shook your head as you realized how tired you were. You scooped up the coins and left them on Maria's desk for tomorrow, after that you wiped the tables down and let your mind wander as you locked all the doors and windows of the bar.
You initially thought that Death's encounter with you would leave you with nightmarish memories of his red eyes and chilling demeanor. Instead, however, you kept thinking about all the wrong things.
You thought about how you liked his fur, and how soft it looked.
You like his scent, it reminded you of how it smells right after it rains.
You liked the way he talked, deep, smooth, and confident.
You liked the way his tongue glossed over his large teeth..and the way your hand felt in his..
You forcefully ejected yourself from your embarrassing thoughts as you locked the front door and stepped into the hard rain.
'Right. Maria did say it was raining and I did not grab an umbrella. What a damn idiot am I.'
You sighed deeply, preparing yourself for the 15 minute soaking wet walk you were gonna have to take home. You only got a couple paces in the direction of your home before you stopped in your tracks.
'Ah, I was right. I didn't forget those eyes.'
You thought to yourself as you immediately recognized Death's illuminated red eyes in the shadow of a tree not too far from where you stood. Hesitantly, you called out to him.
"...Death?"
Instantly, he emerged from the shadows, chuckling to himself as he approached you.
"Bien, conejita, muy bien. You have good awareness."
For some reason, you made a mental note to remember his compliment to you.
"Were you out here waiting for me?" you asked as he finally got within a few feet of you. It was then you truly realized how big he was. You weren't as small as other rabbits in your family, in fact you kinda considered yourself tall for a rabbit and yet, your head only came up to his chest, forcing you to lift your head up to look at him.
"Sí, it's raining hard and you have no umbrella. So I'll be a gentleman and lend you this."
Suddenly the hard pellets of rain no longer battered down on you, you blinked and realized, Death no longer had on his poncho, instead, it was on you.
You felt your cheeks and ears burn red with embarrassment.
"Ah, gracías.." You focused your sight on the ground as you found it too hard to face him in that moment.
"No problem, though of course you can't keep it..we are strangers after all, sí?"
'Oh right. Well then he'll have to take it back...after I get home.....Oh.'
You then realized what he was implying. He was gonna walk you home, you felt your cheeks and ears burn even hotter, and for a second you wanted to feel the rain on your face to cool you down.
"Right, well just this way then.." you trailed off as you began picking your pace back up in the correct direction.
While you focused your gaze on the ground out of shyness, Death focused his gaze on you.
He admittedly wasn't entirely sure why he was out here, walking some bunny to her home in the rain. He only meant to stop in for a quick drink after a long day. He mentally flipped through reasons that led him to be here, chauffeuring a little rabbit home.
He found you interesting, he liked the effect he had on you, specifically.
He had a strong effect on practically everyone. The running, screaming, pleading, fighting back kind of effect.
But on you, there was a push and pull. He noticed the way you couldn't be still under his gaze, how when given the chance you practically scattered to the comfort of the counter away from his table...but he also noticed the way you had unconsciously grazed your thumb over his paw when you shook hands... and the way your breath hitched when he leaned in too close. He chalked up his interest to wanting answers for this strange behavior and figured a quick chat on the way to your home would be all he needed to satisfy his curiosity.
....Plus, he enjoyed the way you had to keep pulling up his poncho because it was much too big for you. He couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.
"It's just past this uphill, not too far." You interrupted his thoughts. Your voice shaky, but this time not from uneasiness, instead, you found yourself very, very cold. Despite his poncho covering most of your body, it wasn't thick enough to not be eventually soaked in the relentless rain.
The shivering as well as the now slippery uphill walk slowed your pace greatly. Death, who was already making an effort to not speed past you with his naturally longer strides now had to come almost to a complete stop. He watched you helplessly attempt to conquer a small hill.
He didn't want to spend this much time on this little side quest of his. Shaking his head, he decided there was no other option.
He swiftly got close behind you and scooped you up bridal style into his arms. You screamed out in surprise as you found yourself suddenly looking up at Death, and the cloudy night sky, with rain more gently now, hitting your face. Death looked annoyed as he moved his mouth dangerously close to your ear.
"Hush now, conejita, you're starting to become more of a burden than you're worth." he whispered in your ear.
Offended, you scowled and looked away from him.
'It wasn't like I asked you to walk me home.' You thought to yourself as you begrudgingly let Death carry you in his arms, wishing you were home already in your warm bed.
Death looked down at you, seeing your hurt expression made him upset. He truthfully didn't mean to come across as rude as he did. The whole reason he's even here right now was to talk to you. Strangely for him, he regretted his comment and tried to change the subject.
"How long have you worked at the bar?" He asked plainly.
"Six and a half years, 17 days and 14 hours but hey who's counting." You grinned at your joke. You honestly did love working at the bar, despite all of the challenges it can present you.
Death nodded before carrying on.
"So then, you've seen many different kinds of people. What do you think of them?"
You gave your answer thought before speaking, humming while you did so.
"Ahh, most people are fun. They just want to let loose and chat everyone's head off. That, or they are looking for some comfort in drinking. Either way, I've had no real problems with most of the customers. I just do my best to give them what they need."
The rain has now come to a light sprinkle, the cold air pushed against you, making you want to retreat into the fur of this large wolf, but you refrained, not wanting to cross a line.
Death hummed in response and then there was a silence. You closed your eyes and focused on the crunch of the leaves under Death's feet as he carried you to home.
You could faintly hear his breathing, calm and steady despite just overcoming the uphill in the rain. The rhythmic rise and fall of his chest combined with the sway of the walk was just the break you needed after such a long day.
Death's voice broke the silence.
"And what do you make of me."
Although it was a question, Death said it like he it was more of a thought to himself, as if he already knew the answer and was just thinking out loud.
You took even longer to answer this time.
"I think you must have it hard, with your appearance being so...unnerving. But you're a good guy I think. Plus, when you get a good look, you look kinda handsome. So cheer up, and don't be so down, you don't have to be the big bad wolf, you can be whatever you want."
You decided to answer honestly as you saw your cottage not too far away. And it's not like you'll ever see this guy again, so who cares if you say something just a bit embarrassing.
Suddenly, Death placed you gently onto your feet and removed his poncho from you.
You turned to look at him, hoping your honesty didn't tick him off. Death stared off at something else. This time he was the one avoiding eye contact.
"You're home, rabbit." He said as he put his poncho back on himself, seemingly unbothered by how cold and wet it was.
You turned to see your cottage just a few paces ahead of you.
"Ah thank you, be safe on your travels."
He paused, still glaring into the void.
"You too conejita, I don't want to see you too soon."
Before you could ask him what that last part meant, you blinked and he vanished. And somehow, with his departure, the air felt warmer.
That night, after a much needed shower and dinner, you laid in your bed with your head full of nothing but the wolf from the bar.
You wished on every star you could see from your window that he wasn't just a passersby.
That you might get to see Death again.
You drifted off to sleep, with dreams of Death filling your head.
.....
Not far from your home, Death sat against a tree. Your words replaying in his mind. He ruffled the fur on the top of his head with a heavy sigh.
He knew he couldn't leave you alone after that.
End of chapter one.

My Headcanos on how Death would interact with you❤️‍🩹
///Platonic and Romantic///
!Gender neutral
Tumblr media
•Platonic•
- First of: He would probably be a little confused why you're not Afraid of him but find it amusing at the same time.
- Would be friendly but try to keep his distance
- Sharing a drink with You and maybe have some small talk won't hurt right? HAH wrong.
- Him Being Death includes not really having someone to talk to so he would probably Talk. A. LOT. (Like have u seen him interact with puss? This puppy wants to be heard)
- He would also enjoy it when you share some of your life Stories, doesn't even matter if they're happy Stories or not.
- Does actually enjoy the time with you.
- If you ask him to meet up again, he would totally be cocky about it.
- Like "Oh you will see me again either way" and then just disappear.
- Will never admit it but totally wants to see you again aswell
- After your first encounter he Would totally just appear next to you some day and start talking to you like it's the most normal thing in the world.
•Romantic•
- You somehow managed to get this oversized Puppy attached to you? Congratulations, you now have to get used to constant jumpscares.
- Fr tho He will just appear out of nowhere.
- Tbh i think he would at first still be a little distant emotionally
- You give him a comfort he never knew he needed
- Can and WILL protect you. Someone tries to hurt? He will absolutely terrorize them.
- Is the biggest softie for you. But look at him with doe eyes and he will melt right then and there.
- definition of "They fell first, he fell harder"
- He LOVES giving you pet names.
- Some he would use on a Daily basis are: Sunshine, Love/ my love, Darling, Dear or Flower
- And then he has specific pet names he uses to tease you: Bunny, Lamb, Dove
- You want him to shut up for once? Boop the snoot.
- Would absolutely nuzzle his cold nose into your neck out of nowhere.
- is pretty cold for someone with fur in general
- You notice hes Tense? Pls Scratch his ears, or rub his sides/Back.
- Is so touch starved, he will lean into any and every physical contact with you.
- he's also extremely cuddly.
-(edit) Love bites >>> fr tho, he would lightly bite into your cheek or shoulder to get your attention
- King of respecting boundaries.
- Will make you wear his Poncho. He loves seeing you in it.
- "It looks better on you anyways my love"
- You feel insecure about something? Oh boy.. the moment he finds out he will snatch you, sit you down on his lap and give you a shit tone of reassurance.
- Honestly i think you don't have to be worried about arguments/ fights with him. This man has been around since the begging of time, he's seen basically everything so making him mad enough for him to actually argue with you would be hard.
- has a constant inner conflict with himself about the whole situation tbh. He knows he shouldn't like you in such ways or even have a relationship with you. But he just can't help himself.
- it's such a chliché, but you're the light in his life (or not life? idk) He won't let anything happen to you.

A flower For Death
¤ Death x reader
Note: I'm sorry to the lovely a anon who requested this. Tumblr ate your ask and my writing.😞
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The sun was setting behind the mountains, casting a warm, golden glow over the peaceful meadow where Lobo and you sat. The soft grass tickled your legs as you both looked out at the endless expanse of greenery before them. Lobo, as always, was dressed in his usual black robes, his face hidden behind his hood. You, on the other hand, wore a simple white dress, your hair flowing in the gentle breeze.
For a moment, there was silence between you as you both took in the serene atmosphere. Then, you spoke up.
"I have something for you," you said, pulling a handful of colorful wildflowers from beside you. With deft fingers, you began to weave the stems together, creating a delicate flower crown.
Lobo watched you work, his clawed fingers resting on his knees. He had never seen someone make something like this for him before. Lobo was used to being feared and avoided, not cherished ( not that he minded it much.)
You finished your creation, and with a gentle smile, you reached up and placed the flower crown on Lobo's head.
"There," you said, admiring your handiwork. "You look beautiful."
Lobo was stunned. He had never been called beautiful before. He tentatively reached up and touched the flowers, feeling the soft petals between his fingers.
You noticed Lobo's hesitation and took his hand, guiding it to the crown. "You deserve something beautiful," you said softly. "Just because you're Death doesn't mean you can't enjoy the simple things in life."
Lobo looked at you, his hood falling back slightly to reveal his wolfish face. "Thank you," he said, his voice barely a whisper.
The two of you sat in silence once again, Lobo still wearing the flower crown. As the night grew darker, the stars began to twinkle above you. You pointed up at the sky, identifying constellations and telling stories of ancient myths.
Lobo listened intently, his usual stoic expression softening. He had never spent time with a human like this before. It was almost... nice.
As the night drew on, you grew tired. Lobo stood up and offered his furred hand to help you up. You accepted, and as you walked back to your home, Lobo kept the flower crown on, feeling a sense of peace he had never experienced before.
Tumblr media
The next day, you returned to the meadow, bringing with you a picnic basket filled with sandwiches and lemonade. Lobo was waiting for you, sitting cross-legged in the grass with his flower crown still on his head.
You spent the day talking and laughing, sharing stories and getting to know each other better. Lobo found himself enjoying your company more than he ever thought possible.
As the sun began to set once again, you pulled out a small camera and asked if you could take a picture of him wearing the flower crown. Lobo was hesitant, but eventually agreed.
You snapped a few pictures, the flash illuminating the darkening sky. Turning around the camera, you showed Lobo the pictures on the small screen, and he was surprised to see that he looked... happy. It was a feeling he had never experienced before, and he wasn't sure if he liked it or not.
Eventually, you had to leave, but before you did, you leaned in and gave Lobo a soft kiss on the cheek. Lobo was taken aback, but as you walked away, he found himself reaching up and touching the spot where your lips had met his cheek.
As Lobo sat alone in the meadow, his flower crown still on his head, he realized that he didn't want to be alone anymore. He wanted to spend more time with you, to feel the happiness and peace that came with your presence.
"See you soon, Y/N."

Also I put my own spin on how Death collects souls, I hope yall like it! Mwah mwah mwah, please enjoy!
TW: Alcoholism, death(like, someone dying.)
Chapter one 🔽
Chapter Two: Deadly Reveal
That next morning, you enjoyed the peaceful bliss that was an empty mind in the first few seconds of waking up. No thoughts or worries, just the calmness of the usual first morning stretch.
. . .
Though your calves hurt more than usual.
Suddenly, within a split second, you remembered why, ruining the morning calm.
Mateo's morning interruption. The bar. Gabriella being the most freaked out you ever saw her. Death. His eyes. His voice. His poncho. The rain. The walk. His fur against your cheek as he carried you. His goodbye. It all came back like a movie being played 10 times the normal speed.
You rubbed your face with your hands, hoping to wipe away the tired feeling.
You felt a bit stupid, you would normally never let a stranger walk you home after only an hour of meeting. Let alone let them be close enough to carry you. You didn't even feel entirely comfortable with Mateo giving you a friendly pat and you've known him for five years.
You decided you'd blame it all on being tired from a double shift, not wanting any more overthinking to happen this morning. Though, in the back of your mind flashes of Death kept appearing while you got up and ready for the day.
You sat down at the dining table for what you thought was morning tea, however glancing at the clock revealed it was 1pm already. So you had to have slept in. You frowned, upset that your normal schedule was messed up for the second day in a row.
Deciding that you needed fresh air to soothe your mood, you took your tea to the front porch of your cottage and sat in the rocking chair placed neatly in front of a window.
The air smelled damp and earthy. Like him.
'. . . . I don't want to see you too soon.' His words replayed in your mind.
You wondered what that could've meant, worried that it means he won't be back anytime soon.
You then racked your brain on why you cared so much. You don't know him, there isn't a meaningful connection. There isn't any connection at all, he's a customer who was kind enough to lend you his poncho on your walk home. Nothing more.
Though even with all of that being true, you couldn't shake the want to see him again. You couldn't shake the memory of his eyes and smile, his voice, his smell. You couldn't shake him.
"Buenas tardes Y/N!" Diego's voice shattered your thought bubble...to your appreciation.
You saw his lanky figure try to approach your front yard, attempting not to slip in the mud.
"I would help you, but I think you might deserve to have a sore ass today." You laughed while getting up to help him anyways.
Thankfully, he was able to manage before you got to him. You really didn't want to get covered in mud.
"Sí, sí. Tienes razón (you're right.), I am an absolute lowlife," he chuckled while finally approaching you.
"But that's why I'm here now! I want to make it up to you. We can go out to town, everything you get is on me, promise." He gave you a wide smile.
Normally, you would rather spend your off time at home, learning a new hobby and tending to your small vegetable garden. You enjoyed living away from all the noise and movement of the town, you felt like you could breathe easy in your little cottage.
Simultaneously, however, today was different. You didn't want to be left alone with your thoughts, going back and forth on how you felt about Death. Thinking about if you'd see him again, or if you should even want to. A distraction from all that mental conflict would be nice.
"Ahh, well. I guess you can convince me to let you buy me breakfast at a café. Let me grab a jacket."
_________________________________________
The inner most section of town was only about a 20 minute walk from your home. To avoid any more shameful thoughts about your night with Death, you decided to interrogate Diego on the walk over.
You knew he had a drinking problem, it was evident when he showed up for work a bit woozy every now and then. He was also a lightweight, you felt bad that he was burdened with such a terrible combo.
"Soo, I thought you said you were gonna say no next time Mateo offered a shot or two..or five." you said carefully, not wanting to offend him.
Diego gave a deep sigh before responding.
"No is a hard word to find when drinks get mixed in...but I'm trying, that night will be my last relapse. Wouldn't want you covering for my sorry tail all the time otherwise you'd get sick of me." He laughed, trying to keep the mood light.
You nodded and asked him the normal run around questions. How have you been, done anything new, blah blah blah.
You focused hard on his rambling answers, not wanting to let your mind wander.
When you finally arrived to the café, Diego sped ahead of you, rushing to pull out a seat for you. You shook your head playfully at his over the top gesture.
You both looked over the menus, ordered and chatted about the mundane.
Completely unaware you were being watched from the moment you left your door.
Across the street, hidden in a shadowed alleyway stood Death, with an annoyed expression resting on his face.
He spent the night thinking about how to handle this situation and his irritating feelings on you.
He's already wasted too much time playing with you and even more time thinking about you. He's death. He has an eternal duty, and nowhere in his job description did it say he had time for...playthings.
But he was also honest with himself. He couldn't get you out of the sacred space that was his head.
His solution was to reveal to you that he really was death, the grim reaper, la muerte etc..then he could watch you flee in terror and be done with it all.
However, his plans were soiled by Diego whisking you away.
Something about Diego pissed Death off.
"¿Por qué estoy perdiendo el tiempo aquí?(Why am I wasting my time here?)" Death growled to himself before vanishing to go back to work. He figured he will settle this where it started, at the bar.
. . .
"Oooh, that looks good." Diego commented on the torrijas that arrived at your table.
Diego ordered just eggs and bacon, which he hardly took notice in as he kept his eyes trained on you.
"So, Gabi told me there was some creep at the bar last night? She said she left you with him and she feels bad about it, what's that all about?" he asked nonchalantly.
This was the last topic you wanted to talk about, however, he asked you so directly, there was no way to avoid it.
"I wouldn't say creep, I mean his looks were intimidating I guess? Well anyway, there wasn't any problems with him and I'm not upset with Gabi over it, I mean she takes customers I don't wanna deal with for me all the time so, we're even." you stared down at your food, feeling a bit guilty. Somehow, you felt like you were lying by not mentioning the full details.
"Well hopefully he won't show up to the party tonight cause I'd beat his a-"
"What party?" you interrupted Diego before he inflated his ego too much.
"Y/N, no seas estúpido (don't be stupid), it's the first of October. Maria always throws a party, it's her birthday month. We do this every year, how do you not remember by now."
"Ah damn, you're right...she's crazy, celebrating for a whole month sounds so tiring." you said while finishing up the last bit of your food.
"So hey, you skip the party every year..why not change it up and go this time? I'll be your party buddy and you can keep my drinking in check" he laughed, placing the money for the meal on the table.
Truthfully you normally weren't a party person. You had been to a handful of them and they usually end up with you sweating and hyperventilating in a bathroom stall, suffering from a panic attack.
But your encounter with Death did make you realize you must be seriously socially starved if a brisk walk with a stranger could make you feel so...flustered. You also came to the conclusion that maybe jumping back into the dating pool could be good for you. You hadn't had a romantic relationship since high school after all.
Finishing the last of your orange juice you answered Diego.
"Yeah alright, but promise not to ditch me during okay?"
"That's what I like to hear! Now it is a costume party so, we'll have to find you something to go in. But hey no worries, we're in town now so we can find something here." Diego said while standing up to leave.
You hadn't realized you'd have to dress up, and the thought of it made you kinda want to back out, but reluctantly you let Diego take you to a clothing shop anyway. You wanted to give your all into enjoying this experience.
. . .
Entering the shop you were greeted by a young woman who encouraged you to check out their extensive Halloween costume section.
"Hmm, I think we should find you something cute to wear, not too flashy, easy on the eyes..like you." Diego said as he bumped his elbow into your arm.
You decided to ignore the flirting and instead started to scan the racks of clothing, hoping to find something you'd be comfortable in.
Diego started to rummage through clothing, apparently eager to help you find a costume.
"Soo, what are you going as?" you asked plainly while scanning a skeleton body suit.
"Ah you know me, I gotta go big or go home so I'm going as a pirate all decked out in everything gold I could get my hands on." He said ruffling through more costumes.
You were about to give up your search and just go as a sheet ghost before Diego called out to you in joy.
"I found the perfect costume! Come here, come try it on!!" he said a little too loudly, causing the cashier to glare at him breifly.
He held out to you a red hood accompanied by an old-timey looking blouse and black corset attached to a silky red skirt for the bottom.
"It's Red Riding Hood! You'd look so cute in this!" Diego was beaming proudly at his find.
Not really wanting to go as a sheet ghost, you took the costume and headed for the dressing room.
Putting the costume on, you were pleased with how it fitted your body. Hugging the right places, while being flowy where it needed to be. Diego wasn't wrong, you did look cute.
When you exited the dressing room you saw Diego's disappointed expression.
"Aww what you're not gonna show me?" he whined.
"You'll see at the party anyways." you shrugged.
Diego paid for the costume and you both left the shop.
"Well, the party is at 10, so you should go home and get ready. Can't wait to see you there!" Diego chimed as you parted ways.
. . .
That night you had gotten dressed and admittedly were having to convince yourself time and time again to just go. You tried hard to silence the nagging voice in your head telling you to stay home and feign sickness the next day.
You took a deep breath in before opening the bar doors and stepping inside.
The bar was filled to the brim with people, some you recognized others you don't. All of them laughing, drinking and dancing in their costumes.
You looked around to try and spot any of your coworkers. Suddenly, an arm wrapped itself around your shoulders, startling you.
"You actually came!! That's good cause I didn't buy that costume for nothing..speaking of, you look adorable Y/N!"
It was Diego and you could instantly smell the liquor on his breath.
"Yeah I came, I didn't wanna leave you hanging..plus I'm supposed to keep you in check, have you had any drinks?" you asked, slipping out from under Diego's arm.
"Ah yeah, just two shots though, no more, I promise!" He laughed and whisked you away to a table before you could scold him.
At the table sat a group of people you didn't recognize but were supposedly Diego's friends. They were loud, slamming drinks on the table, screaming in each other's faces, pushing and pulling on one another. Deigo joined in the fun but you sat quietly, giving small smiles to the group whenever one of them accidentally bumped into you.
For the first half hour you did fine, even made a few light jokes and took a few shots to loosen up, however when the alcohol hit your head, you started becoming more and more sensitive to the lights and sounds around you. It started to become a bit much to handle.
You felt your face getting warm and you started to notice how much your clothes rubbed against your fur, making you uncomfortable. You attempted to take a calming breath in but it felt like the heavy scent of liquor and sweat absorbed all the oxygen. Your breaths became shallow and your mouth dry. You tugged on Diego's arm, wanting to ask him to move to a quieter spot for just a few seconds.
"Diego I think I need a break-" you started only to have Diego lightly shove you off of him. You looked up at him with confusion.
"It's a party, you want a break? You go home." he slurred his words a bit before taking another shot.
You decided to shake the hurt you felt from his comment and push.
"Hey, I think you've had too much to drink, let's go get water and-" you tried to pull Diego away from the table only to be shoved harder this time, almost causing you to fall backwards.
"Go get your water then." Diego said before returning his attention to his drinks and friends.
You felt the sting of tears in your eyes but blinked them away before heading towards the bar to get water. To your relief, you saw Gabi in an angel costume at the bar, making herself a drink.
When you got there, Gabi immediately saw the tired hurt in your eyes.
"Oh honey, you tried. You can't change him. Trust me, I also attempted to keep him sober. It's like stopping a fish from getting water" She guided your head to rest on her shoulder and gave you a few back pats.
She then pulled away and poured you a glass of water. You gladly accepted, grateful to have a 'mom' friend like Gabriella.
"You can hang with me for the rest of the night, I'm way more fun anyway" she winked at you.
You smile and nodded. She gently led you to a cleared spot in the bar, meant to be a makeshift dancefloor. She grabbed your hands and swayed to the music, singing along terribly. You couldn't help but laugh and sway with her. You felt a weight evaporate off of your chest and felt like you could breathe again.
After a bit of dancing, Gabi slowly came to a stop, staring off at a certain direction.
"No way that stalker-looking dog came back, who even invited him?" she scowled.
You immediately whipped your head in the direction she was looking. Your chest felt tight again..but this time in anticipation.
In a table all the way in the corner of the bar, sat Death. Looking straight at you with a grin on his face.
'Why is he here? He doesn't know Maria, so he wasn't invited. He only knows me...sort of. Did he come to see me?'
The thought of that made your heart flutter. Suddenly you and Death were locked in a staring contest, neither of you wanting to look away.
"I can get some guys to throw him out, hold on-" Gabi interrupted your stare down with Death.
"No no!..ah I mean, he's fine. I invited him." you lied.
"Oh, well then.. maybe you should talk to him. He's all by himself. Not that I care though, I'm gonna make another drink." Gabi said in shock. She gave you a quick hug before leaving for the bar.
You turned your attention back to Death who never stopped looking at you. He motioned his head towards the seat across from him at table.
Your heart did flips as you approached his table and sat down.
"No drink conejita?" he said tilting his head.
"I'm off the clock..and I've personally had enough to drink.." you said trying to keep your composure. You felt so confused yet happy in this moment.
Death nodded before shifting his gaze to look at something behind you.
"I think your friend has also had enough to drink." he laughed lightly.
You turned your head to see Diego drunkenly picking a fight with a stranger twice his size.
"Aye Diego..." you said putting your face in your hands. You were embarrassed Death saw you and him together while he acted like a fool.
Death gave a deep laugh that made you feel something you couldn't explain.
You looked up at him, you weren't sure if your cheeks were burning from the alcohol or your shyness. Even so, the alcohol gave you some courage and you were feeling ecstatic now that you're with Death again.
"So, you crashed the party and if Maria sees you she's gonna lose it..how come you're here?" you asked trying to not stare at his eyes.
"I needed to see you again." he stated plainly.
That sentence made something in you snap.
"Well I'm here." you breathed shallowly, your voice low, unable to hide the way you were feeling.
"Indeed you are, conejita." Death said in a similar tone, leaning forward.
You swore the entire world started moving in slow motion. Death was close enough to you that you could feel his breath on your fur. It took everything in you to not lean forward and rest your head in the crook of his neck.
'I really did have too much to drink' you thought helplessly.
You wanted to ask him a million questions about himself, you opened your mouth to speak only for his voice to ring out first.
"It's warm in here, no? Why not take another walk." He said standing up. You frowned at the sudden space he put between you and him.
Looking behind you, you saw Gabriella and Maria dancing together sloppily with huge smiles on their face. You also spotted Mateo for the first time tonight, flirting with a girl by the bar. Finally, you saw Diego, cursing while holding a cold glass of beer to his now blackened eye while his friends assure him it wasn't his fault.
'I feel kinda bad just leaving them without saying anything..' you thought before turning back to Death who now stood against the entrance doors in his dark poncho. He smiled at you before speaking, just barely audible to your ears in a smooth but teasing tone,
"You coming little bunny?"
'Nope, I don't feel bad at all.'
You followed Death out the door, into the cool dark night.
________________________________________
The alcohol was definitely affecting you more than you accounted for as you followed Death blindly in a random direction, no clue as to where you're going.
Again, normally something you wouldn't do.
Death was moving quicker than you remember him moving last time, it took a bit of effort to keep in step with him.
Happy to be alone with him again, you took this time to ask him everything that was on your tipsy mind.
"Why did you need to see me?" you asked.
"I want to show you something." he stated with amusement in his voice.
"Like what?"
"I want you to see my work."
"Oh you're job...but it's so late, what jobs still runs this late?"
"I don't get breaks." he said plainly.
"Well that's kinda dumb..and maybe even illegal? What's your job?" you furrowed your brows, trying to understand what he was saying.
"I'm Death." he said deadpanned.
"Yeah I know." you said matter of factly.
He laughed that deep laugh that made your heart flutter in your chest.
He then stopped to crouch down and face you so that he was just above eye level to you.
He raised his paw to your cheek and gently brushed his thumb across it.
Your breath hitched and suddenly your chest felt tight.
"I take the souls of the dead..." he whispered in a way that had you completely frozen in place.
He moved his paw to cup your chin and gently lifted your head so that your eyes met head on.
"and bring them to the afterlife." he was dangerously close to your face. Your heart skipped beats in anticipation for his next move.
"and there's no one.." he gently skimmed his claw from your jawline all the way down your neck.
"Who has ever escaped me." he finished in a deep hushed voice. He gently pinched your cheek before standing back up.
You let go of a breath you didn't know you were holding.
"Oh, I see.." you said quietly, your body still reeling from his touch. You didn't even really pay attention to what he had said.
"We're here conejita." Death said looking into the distance at something.
You moved to the side slightly to try and see what Death was looking at. A little bit away from where you both stood, a man sat slumped against a well, clearly intoxicated. He swished his beer bottle around, mumbling a song that sounded like something a sailor would sing.
Not understanding if that's what you were supposed to be looking at, you looked up at Death who now had an almost disappointed expression on his face.
Shifting your gaze back to the man, you could see his movements slow, as he started to slump to the side more and more, eventually laying on his side completely. His bottle spilling out onto the street.
"Did he just-"
"Die. Yes, yes he did." Death cut you off.
Your heart began to race and your mind filled suddenly with a million thoughts.
'What should I do. Do we get help? Do we call someone?? Can we revive him?? Did I actually just watch someone die??'
"No..wait I'm sure we can-" you began to take steps towards the man, but Death put a paw on your chest to stop you in your tracks.
"There's nothing anyone can do for him now." He said emotionless. He then approached the man, crouching down next to him.
"Then what are you doing??" you asked, following him, absolutely confused by what's going on.
"I told you..." Death started. He took out a sickle you didn't know he had and swiped it at the man. You gasped, but before you could say anything you were once again in awe of what you saw. On the point of the sickle there was a glowing ball of light. Death grabbed it and held the soft glowing ball of light in his paw. It looked ethereal, both tangible but also as if it could disappear at any moment.
Death brought the ball to his mouth, and said something inaudible. Then suddenly, the ball of light blew away, as if it were merely made of sand.
"I'm Death." he said coldly.
A few short seconds of confusion followed before finally your brain put all the pieces together.
You stared at him, unable to find the right words to say.
He once again crouched down to your level.
"And I don't mean it in any other way than literal. When your grandfather died, I was there. When your friends die, I'll be there, when you die, I'll. Be. Right. There. So whatever infatuation you have with me can end now. Go on. Run away like all little bunnies do." he said in a cold and harsh tone.
You admit, you had natural instincts that were screaming at you to run. But you also were...annoyed?
What did him being Death have to do with you? He wasn't soul reaping when he teased and taunted you at the bar that first night. He wasn't the grim reaper when he carried you home. He didn't have to be some terrifying entity that no one can get close to.
You felt frustration build in your chest and decided not to hold it back.
"What does that have to do with me liking you?! You don't get to decide if I like you or not, I do! You don't get to make me feel things and then think I'm gonna just run away over something like that! You started this with me, so finish it and walk me home!"
You yelled at him, using the last of your energy you had for the night. You sighed as you laid yourself down onto the ground, staring up at the night sky, much clearer than it was last time you saw it.
Suddenly you felt your body being lifted off the ground, once again being carried bridal style.
You looked at Death who had a grin on his face, looking ahead of him. He then looked down at you and leaned in close to your ear.
You breathed in the familiar after-rain scent he had. Something about that was so calming. You were slightly upset that his poncho stopped you from feeling his fur, but you also couldn't ask for anything more than to be in his arms right now.
"If I promise to stay do you promise not to run?" he said quietly.
You gently tightened your arms around his neck, taking in more of his scent.
"Of course." you hummed into his neck.
Truthfully, Death's entire day went wrong.
He spent the night thinking of you instead of carrying on his work.
He meant to scare you off way earlier in the day, only for your friend to ruin that.
He never meant to crash a party at the bar.
He didn't mean to caress your face.
He meant to scare you off after taking that mans soul.
Truly, he did the opposite of everything he wanted to happen today.
And with a grin on his face while carrying his sleepy little bunny home, he couldn't be happier.
End of Chapter Two.
