Devil-Mart ⭐ (Obey Me!)
━━━━━━━━━━ ✦ ━━━━━━━━━━
You got hired at mega retailer, Devil-Mart⭐. Naturally, the guys "suddenly" need a job too and start working alongside you.
»Characters: Demon Bros + Bonus Dia and Barb
»Tags: Humor, Bulleted Style fic, Gender Neutral Reader/MC
»Notes: How about shopping with them?-> [Devil-Mart: Shopping]
Tumblr media
Lucifer:
"...Mammon put us in debt this month."
Was worried you'd be bullied (or eaten) surrounded by demons/other monsters
Is that coworker who acts like a boss
Actually does make it to management within the first week
The customer isn't always right. He's the manager to call for rude customers
Actually likes stocking, finds neat aisles soothing
The home improvement dept is his favorite
Frequently makes sure you take all your breaks
Doubles as store security if needed
Tumblr media
Mammon:
"I just needed extra cash alright?"
Was worried you'd fall for some other demon
Failed in all departments except online orders (he's very fast!)
Bags for orders would occasionally go missing
Took extra long breaks but Lucifer caught on and wrote him up
Would try to frequently visit you in your department
Started fights with other workers who were busier staring at you than their work
"They're not meat, beat it!"
Got fired for trying to steal electronics
Tumblr media
Levi:
"Theres a lot of new merch releases coming up soon!"
Didn't want to be the only one left out so he applied...plus you won't see him anymore!
Electronics department ONLY
You won't find him cross trained anywhere else, he refuses
Is actually really good with upselling
Can be aggressive if you don't go with his recommendations
Has received a few complaints for that reason
Tries to match his breaks with you since that's the only time he really gets to see you
Was the one who tattled on Mammon
Tumblr media
Satan:
"This is for research."
A lie he almost believes but knows he just wants to be near you
Works the same department as you so you see each other all day
Never put him on registers or customer service
Almost got into a fight on the first day
Retail is rough for him but he does it for you
Complains to Demon Resources about Lucifer daily
Tumblr media
Asmo:
"Ugh...a job!? I'm gonna cry. Oh but my fans would love if I relate to them! And your job will be fun with me there!"
Upfront about his reason lol
Refused to do anything except customer service
Just stands back and talks to customers while the coworker alongside him completes any transactions
Makes DevilToks on the clock
Frequently leaves his spot to talk to you and Satan
Gets all the work gossip
Lucifer never catches on
"You know, this isn't so bad! I'm such a good worker right!?"
Gets employee of the month
Tumblr media
Beel:
"I don't like the thought of you surrounded by demons alone. This isn't RAD."
Aalajffkslsjda the cutest honest protector
Is cross trained everywhere but
Never put him near grocery ever again
Likes to work with you if he gets the chance
Usually works in the backroom unloading and back stocking things
Has a doctors note that let's him take frequent breaks for eating
His favorite department overall is security because Lucifer gives him extra treats if he prevents high valued thefts
Tumblr media
Belphie:
"I'm here because I have things I would like to have."
Is there an extra meaning to that?
Works in the back with Beel usually
Takes frequent naps in hidden areas of the backroom
Pretends to look busy if Lucifer is around
Also complains to Demon Resources about Lucifer daily
Fights with Levi on your breaks because he also wants to spend time with you when he can
Is the reason some coworkers don't approach you
He makes it known to not fuck with you
Tumblr media
Diavolo heard you started a new job alongside the brothers! He goes to visit with Barbatos in tow.
Diavolo:
"Can I get a little help here?"
Flirts with you while on the clock. He thinks the red vest on you is cute!
Was wowed by the store in general
(Normally Barbatos does the shopping alone)
Liked sampling the food that was around the store
Was tempted to apply but Barbatos shut it down
Took a photo of Lucifer in his manager clothes
Tumblr media
Barbatos:
"Seeing you here will make my shopping trips more enjoyable."
Praises your work
Did have to go to customer service to complain and ran into Asmo
Didn't believe Asmo was gonna clean the restrooms but at least the complaint was taken
Takes a survey and compliments you
Has to fight Dia to get him off the racecar cart
"It's for parents with children my lord."
Returns the cart to the cart corral like an upstanding citizen
Tumblr media
My first bulleted story post lol. I had fun with this & hope to make more in the future. <3

Kate Beaton's "Ducks"
Tumblr media
It’s been more than a decade since I began thrilling to Kate Beaton’s spectacular, hilarious snark-history webcomic “Hark! A Vagrant,” pioneering work that mixed deceptively simple lines, superb facial expressions, and devastating historical humor:
https://memex.craphound.com/2012/03/23/hark-a-vagrant-the-book/
Beaton developed Hark! into a more explicit political allegory, managing the near-impossible trick of being trenchant and topical while still being explosively funny. Her second Hark! collection, Step Aside, Pops, remains essential reading, if only for her brilliant “straw feminists”:
https://memex.craphound.com/2015/09/15/step-aside-pops-a-new-hark-a-vagrant-collection-that-delights-and-dazzles/
Beaton is nothing if not versatile. In 2015, she published The Princess and the Pony, a picture book that I read to my own daughter — and which inspired me to write my own first picture book, Poesy the Monster-Slayer:
https://memex.craphound.com/2015/08/07/the-princess-and-the-pony-from-kate-hark-a-vagrant-beaton/
Beaton, then, has a long history of crossing genres in her graphic novels, so the fact that she published a memoir in graphic novel form is no surprise. But that memoir, Ducks: Two Years In the Oil Sands, still marks a departure for her, trading explosive laughs for subtle, keen observations about labor, climate and gender:
https://drawnandquarterly.com/books/ducks/
In 2005, Beaton was a newly minted art-school grad facing a crushing load of student debt, a debt she would never be able to manage in the crumbling, post-boom economy of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Like so many Maritimers, she left the home that meant everything for her to travel to Alberta, where the tar sands oil boom promised unmatched riches for anyone willing to take them.
Beaton’s memoir describes the following four years, as she works her way into a series of oil industry jobs in isolated company towns where men outnumber women 50:1 and where whole communities marinate in a literally toxic brew of carcinogens, misogyny, economic desperation and environmental degradation.
The story that follows is — naturally — wrenching, but it is also subtle and ambivalent. Beaton finds camaraderie with — and empathy for — the people she works alongside, even amidst unimaginable, grinding workplace harassment that manifests in both obvious and glancing ways.
Early reviews of Ducks rightly praised it for this subtlety and ambivalence. This is a book that makes no easy characterizations, and while it has villains — a content warning, the book depicts multiple sexual assaults — it carefully apportions blame in the mix of individual failings and a brutal system.
This is as true for the environmental tale as it is for the labor story: the tar sands are the world’s filthiest oil, an energy source that is only viable when oil prices peak, because extracting and refining that oil is so energy-intensive. The slow, implacable, irreversible impact that burning Canadian oil has on our shared planet is diffuse and takes place over long timescales, making it hard to measure and attribute.
But the impact of the tar sands on the bodies and minds of the workers in the oil patch, on the First Nations whose land is stolen and despoiled in service to oil, and on the politics of Canada are far more immediate. Beaton paints all this in with the subtlest of brushstrokes, a thousand delicate cuts that leave the reader bleeding in sympathy by the time the tale is told.
Beaton’s memoir is a political and social triumph, a subtle knife that cuts at our carefully cultivated blind-spots about industry, labor, energy, gender, and the climate. But it’s also — and not incidentally — a narrative and artistic triumph.
In other words, Beaton’s not just telling an important story, she’s also telling a fantastically engrossing story — a page-turner, filled with human drama, delicious tension, likable and complex characters, all the elements of a first-rate tale.
Likewise, Beaton’s art is perfectly on point. Hark!’s secret weapon was always Beaton’s gift for drawing deceptively simple human faces whose facial expressions were indescribably, superbly perfect, conveying irreducible mixtures of emotion and sentiment. If anything, Ducks does this even better. I think you could remix this book so that it’s just a series of facial expressions and you’d still convey all the major emotional beats of the story.
Graphic memoirs have emerged as a potent and important genre in this century. And women have led that genre, starting with books like Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home (2006):
https://cbldf.org/banned-challenged-comics/case-study-fun-home/
But also the increasingly autobiographical work of Lynda Barry, culminating in her 2008 One! Hundred! Demons!:
https://drawnandquarterly.com/books/one-hundred-demons/
(which should really be read alongside her masterwork on creativity, 2019’s Making Comics):
https://memex.craphound.com/2019/11/05/lynda-barrys-making-comics-is-one-of-the-best-most-practical-books-ever-written-about-creativity/
In 2014, we got Cece Bell’s wonderful El Deafo:
https://memex.craphound.com/2014/11/25/el-deafo-moving-fresh-ya-comic-book-memoir-about-growing-up-deaf/
Which was part of the lineage that includes the work of Lucy Knisley, especially later volumes like 2020’s Stepping Stones:
https://pluralistic.net/2020/07/09/enhanced-rock-weathering/#knisley
Along with Jen Wang’s 2019 Stargazing:
https://memex.craphound.com/2019/09/25/stargazing-jen-wangs-semi-autobiographical-graphic-novel-for-young-readers-is-a-complex-tale-of-identity-talent-and-loyalty/
2019 was actually a bumper-crop year for stupendous graphic memoirs by women, rounded out by Ebony Flowers’s Hot Comb:
https://drawnandquarterly.com/books/hot-comb/
And don’t forget 2017’s dazzling My Favorite Thing is Monsters, by Emil Ferris:
https://memex.craphound.com/2017/06/20/my-favorite-thing-is-monsters-a-haunting-diary-of-a-young-girl-as-a-dazzling-graphic-novel/
This rapidly expanding, enthralling canon is one of the most exciting literary trends of this century, and Ducks stands with the best of it.

Seeing your latest art of the nossies in the group new years picture reminded me of Wolf Mother (and her childe) as characters and now I'm DEEPLY interested in them as people and characters! I love their designs, just how much the curse affected them and am interested in how they fit into the Moonrise Nation story. (not that you have to reveal anything, of course!) Just admiring.
You're too sweet! YOU'RE TOO SWEET 🥺
These two have a lot of lore behind them (which I'm sure folks don't mind) so for the sake of brevity I'll try to keep it simple!
The Kindred population in the pre-colonial states was never that big, and it was kept in check by Kindred themselves - because the more of them that existed, the less food there'd be for the whole. These old laws regarding Kindred creation and conduct state that a Sire is responsible for their Childe for their whole unlife, and forbade any Kindred from having more than one living Childe at a time. Wolf Mother, original name lost to time, is a seven century old Nosferatu that was Embraced in the St. Lawrence River Valley for the crime of sabotaging the hunting grounds of another tribe in the locality.
Wolf Son, going by the name Jack Skinner modern-day, was Embraced 600 years ago by Wolf Mother for the crime of banditry. Probably like most Embraces, the relationship between them started out strained and unfriendly. Getting Embraced in the old tribe days was definitely a form of capital punishment and not something anyone really wanted. This of course is doubly true for an Embrace via Nosferatu, and the man that became Wolf Son took a long time to settle into his fate as a hideous living omen. When he did manage to overcome his grief and horror, he became a proper student to Wolf Mother and served alongside her in the assigned role of the Promiskeepers (The colloquial name for the Nos at the time) - which was to safeguard and dispense knowledge from both Kindred and Kine of generations gone. Things like: what to do when the seasons are uncharacteristically unfavorable, how to respond when a certain disease starts spreading, what to do with land that refuses to yield resources, etc. (Nos like Grandma Oginn also used to provide matchmaking services to her local tribes ;D) Additionally, in the old Kindred society, the Promisekeepers were tasked with keeping track of debts and contracts made between Kindred. The Nos of pre-colonial North America (at least on the East Coast) were basically your archivists and judges.
As the modern Moonrise Nation is attempting to reclaim some of the old traditions, both for Kindred and their human relations, Nosferatu who come into the faction are expected to take up this mantle of advisors and story keepers, to learn and preserve history, and be there to aid humans and other vamps alike when they're not sure what to do about a problem. Wolf Mother herself was a bit of an isolated Kindred back in her day, she roamed a huge tract of land and only encountered other undead and humans rarely. Still, she was widely known to be a neutral or friendly presence, and her child inherited the same nomadic lifestyle.
The pair would be separated when the first waves of Sabbat Kindred arrived on the continent on the crossings from Europe. They thought each other dead until very recently.
Wolf Son met with immigrant Camarilla Kindred in the 1700s and would later travel to Europe, where he would be installed as Sheriff over a Midlands Domain for several decades. Modern-day, he has come home to America, and is now serving as an Archon.
Wolf Mother spent most of the last few centuries in torpor near Lake Erie, and in the few years she's been awake again she's been singing into the night in hopes her long-lost Childe might still be around... Poor thing...
You can imagine the eventual reunion between them is gonna be super emotional. Not least of all because the Moonrise Nation is explicitly not joining the Camarilla, and seek to make themselves an independent faction.
I'm sure it's fine 🙃

The Lucky One I
Tumblr media
prologue - next chapter
YEARS HAD PASSED AND NOTHING ABOUT FINNICK ODAIR REALLY CHANGED, ALWAYS REMAINING THE KID WITH CUTS ON HIS HANDS AND HIS HEART ON HIS SLEEVE. Though, he was always annoyed at Eleanor for taking longer shifts than necessary at St Magdalene Rossetti  and exhausting herself to an unneeded extent. That was his only complain, though Eleanor didn't care though. She preferred the serenity of a doctor's office over the dead silence of a house. Yes, she was only seventeen, but doctors in District 4 were a rarity, not to mention the teenager had been learning all you can about anatomy since she was eight.
She had decided that her potential future as a doctor was much more plausible than becoming a career, fully leaving the academy after Finnick's games just two years prior. Though both Annie and Finnick were annoyed at Eleanor, they both understood why she made her choice.
So, instead she traded her knives and spears for needles and a pair of surgical gloves, content with a life of service to her community. Every year she watched as innocent children were saved in reapings, and while she couldn't save them from the games, she could save them from the grief and guilt.
Eleanor Eves, District 4's local sweetheart, was nothing short than a gentle being with a softness for children, flowers, and her best friends, Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta. If she wasn't working in St Magdalene Rossetti, she was always seen with them, mostly her and Annie tackling Finnick whenever they had a chance.
There wasn't a single bone in her body that allowed Eleanor the ability to take a life.
Breathing in heavily, Eleanor rubbed her eyes as she opened the door for Mr Ives, an older man with greying hair but warm eyes. Everyone knew of his unlucky streak down at the docks, always managing to cut his hands with the knives he weaved through the scales of fish caught at sea.
Mr Ives, a man who seemed to have a streak for always cutting his hand whenever he cut the fish, seemed overtly fond of the brunette for her sweetness. Men from The Quay had brought him in just fifteen minutes before and he had adamantly insisted only Eleanor stitch up his cut. He had known her since she began working properly and trusted her to work on his wounds after she had expertly patched him up after a nasty cut on his hand, something her mother's unsteady hands struggled to do. At the time, the thirteen year old was figuring out the busy environment of a doctor's office, and watched as her mother struggled to steady her hand over Mr Ives' bleeding wound. Eleanor had logically gone and took the instruments off her mother, patching him up quickly and without many words. Ever since then, it was always Eleanor who helped him.
"You know Sweetheart, you have a real talent," Mr Ives had remarked, wincing as Eleanor injected the Morphling into his arm. She unwrapped the cloth that had been tied over the cut, immediately wiping away any of the excess blood. She grabbed onto the thread, tying it to the needle, before exhaling as she began sewing up the cut.
Eleanor gave him a small smile. "Believe me I wouldn't be this good if you didn't get injured this much, Mr Ives." She laughed apologising as she saw him wince slightly from the sight of the needle. "How's Martha and the baby?"
He gave a laugh. "The little lady's getting proper done with the kid, I'll tell you that." Mr Ives was a sweet man, Eleanor always thought so. He had always given her family extra fish whenever he could spare some. He was eternally grateful for her mother helping his wife get through a nasty case of the flu two winters prior and by association, was in debt to Eleanor. "She keeps demanding I wash in the garden since she pukes whenever I'm near her after my shifts."
Eleanor shook her head. "She is seven months along now and fish does smell bad when it's on you." Eleanor ignored the playful glare Mr Ives gave her. She decided on changing the topic. "Do you guys have any name ideas?"
"None Sweetheart." He shook his head with a laugh. "Wanted to call her Eleri and Martha nearly throttled me. She said that name made her feel sick as a fish." She laughed as he rolled his eyes, mimicking Martha's thick District 4 accent with a shake of his head. Martha Ives had come from The Cove, a region seemingly alienated from the rest of District 4. Their accents stood out like sore thumbs and Martha's was thick and rich, something Mr Ives adored.
Eleanor grinned, finally finishing off the stitches. She finally cut away at the thread, patting down on the stitches before pulling out a bandage. She wrapped it carefully around the hand, finally nodding up at him as she finished.  "There, you better go home now." She told the man with an authoritative tone. There was a hint of playfulness in her voice as she instructed him.  "No fishing for at least a week. Keep the stitches dry and come back in about a week. Mary'll remove them then." She pulled Mr Ives into a hug, laughing as he pressed a kiss to her cheek.
"Sweetheart you are an absolute gem!" He laughed. He reached into his pocket, trying to pull out any spare change he had, only for Eleanor to shake her head at him. "Oh come off it, it's the least I can do."
She shook her head adamantly. "Policy is policy, Mr Ives. We don't care about money here, we aren't struggling for it at all. Now go, I don't want to see you until Martha has the baby."
He kissed her on the cheek once more, getting up and leaving the room. Eleanor sighed heavily, grabbing the cup of water which sat on the desk and taking a sip. She yawned, rubbing her eyes slightly. Then, she finally heard his voice and sobered up, blinking quickly to wash away any feelings of exhaustion.
Finnick Odair despised the days where Eleanor worked longer than necessary. Sometimes, his hatred took the literal form of him storming into St Magdalene Rossetti, just like today.  As much as he tried convincing her otherwise, often using the excuse that he misses her way too much, Eleanor always found herself spending most her days cooped up with foolish men who injured themselves down on the docks. It wasn't a bad job per say, just tedious with how frequently the same men came back constantly.
As Finnick walked in, Eleanor exhaled heavily.
There were several ways in which Finnick Odair could be here:
A. He's injured.
B. He helped someone get here injured.
or
C. He simply wanted to annoy her.
Most the time, well at least nowadays, C was always the most logical and most likely explanation. "I swear to god, Finnick, you better not be injured again!" Eleanor raged as she walked around the room, pulling out bandaids and gauzes. She could already hear his choked laughs, rolling her eyes as she finally got off the ground. Finnick was stood in the centre of the room, holding a bouquet of tulips, scratching his head with a bashful smile. Her eyes softened, a blush already brewing on her cheeks. "Flowers?"
"Tulips," He grinned as she finally stood next to him, Finnick moving to smell the tulips and sighing breathlessly. He watched with fond eyes as she grinned at the bouquet, clearly not expecting the gesture. "My favourite which should be your favourite."
Eleanor grinned, a small blush already coating her cheeks. She couldn't help the way her heart fluttered as she took the tulips, holding them up to her nose and smelling them with a sigh. She wondered if flowers meant anything to Finnick, and if so, did they mean anything because he was giving them to her?
"Flirt with me when I'm not working, Odair." She rolled her eyes as he audibly groaned, quickly moving to grab a vase from the window. She gave the flowers one last smell, placing them in the empty vase and turning to see Finnick simply grinning at her. She gave an exhausted smile, hoping her cheeks weren't obviously red. She hoped she could just pass them off as a small sunburn if they were. "Seriously, why are you here?"
"Can't a guy miss his best girl?" He gave a lopsided grin, bouncing from one foot to the other.
Eleanor rolled her eyes. "Bother Annie, I'm sure she's not busy." She sighed, placing the bandaids down on the desk. She could feel Finnick's eyes on her, those stupid sea green eyes fixed on her figure as she finally took off her scrubs. "Don't tell me, you can't find her."
He nodded. "She's a good hider." Finnick scratched the back of his head with a bashful grin, watching Eleanor with a warm gaze.
"We always did beat you at hide and seek."
Finnick's eyebrows furrowed at Eleanor. "You mean, Annie, always beat me. You just followed her." He gave a laugh as Eleanor pushed him a way, scoffing in offence. Finally though, he held his hand out to her, looking at the clock momentarily before deciding for the both of them what they'd do next. "Come on, you're taking a break. Tell Ida and Margaret you're clocking out. You need a break."
Eleanor shook her head. "No, I've only got," she paused, looking at the clock before counting in her head. "four more hours." But it seemed as though Finnick wasn't having it, grabbing onto Eleanor and dragging her out, much to her protests. It seemed as though both Ida and Margaret were elated seeing the pair, waving Eleanor off with grins. "Finnick!"
Finnick grinned back at her, practically skipping alongside her. "You've been working all day! Have some fun!"

Moonlight Chicken Liveblogging Ep 1-3
yes I took notes. by mid E2 I was obsessed & got wordy.
Enjoying how this drama started with a sex scene and then withholds more sexual intimacy while showing how much a relationship & trust can be slowly built by actions and gestures of affection. I love a 'typical romance arc in reverse'.
Ep 1 I watched the entire meeting to one night stand sequence 3 times asdfghjk
Captures the simmering desire and anticipation so well. Director had me by the throat the entire time.
Tumblr media
I saw commenters at MDL and elsewhere saying actor who plays Jim is too young to play 39. But bro, (a) somehow it's also ok for a 23 year old to play a high school student - acting! and (b) I know people at 35 who could pass for 45 and visa versa. Everyone's body ages differently. I can completely buy him as on the cusp of 40. 40 isn't dead! One of my friends is 44 and hits the club near every weekend. I swear some of these kids just don't know anyone over 25. When was in my 30s I already had divorced friends who were tired af and felt old. Let people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s both live like they're in their 20s some days and other days complain about being old as dirt. We contain multitudes, I promise.
Ep 2
hot young One Night Stand shows up to for real pretend work at the chicken rice shop until this man falls in love with him. There is no orgasm grand enough to make me work food service when I don't have to. I would call it insane behavior except that, note, i watched the night they met 3 times and sexual tension & quiet intimacy of it is HAUNTING ME and I only saw snippets of it on tv screen. so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
the way the random neighborhood teens keep being like...? wasn't that the drunk guy? why does he show up for shifts here now?
and Jim literally does not have an excuse for ANY of this nonsense so he just looks like he wishes a trap door would open and mutters about adult business. Sir u are a whole CLOWN. what are u doing? 🤡🤡🤡
(well, kids. I had a life changing moment of intimacy with a stranger one night and now he keeps hovering around under shakey pretexts because he knows that I know that he wants me to give us a chance and I'm scared out of my mind and have 199 tons of baggage but he's so hot and he looks at me like I could be his whole world, if only I'd let him in. so i let him wait tables at night to be close to me while I struggle not to crumble under internalized homophobia and the weight of my debts, because capitalism. ADULT STUFF.)
Tumblr media
I really like the set up for this couple. 1st episode shows their instant connection, how they're drawn together and find comfort in each other's presence. Then 2nd episode show us the gap that would have to be closed: what Wen dreams of is beautiful but also simple - making a home with someone, a place where he can rest and not feel the weight of the day. He clearly feels that Jim is the right person to do this with him. When Jim gently rejects him, he responds ok, I'm not the right person for you. But Jim is trapped in the bottom of Maslow's triangle. His dream is to get out from under his debt, keep his house, and fund his nephew's education. He doesn't see any space for love in there. It has nothing to do with the right person. Which is why he can't make himself fully turn Wen away. He cautions him that he can't be a home for anyone; he's not qualified to be any such thing for Wen. But deep down he clearly wants it. He wants Wen to prove him wrong somehow.
Ep 3
Wen actually working his real job! Doing... something idk some product management or city planning etc. He found out his dream man is about to be crushed under the boot of capitalism and he has to make presentations about the ROI. 😢
He keeps witnessing how important this incredibly hot man is to the community and it's making him yearn even harder.
and we get the ghost of boyfriends past! Past Boyfriend of Jim is the one who helped him start the chicken rice buisness. And promised never to leave him! oh nooooooo the chicken rice buisness was PROOF OF THEIR (DOOMED) LOVE 💀
They had a cat and a shop and a happy home. And now Jim is all alone. Oh, because his man was a cheater. 😱
oh FUUUUCK. See, I get this so much. He used to argue with his sister if m/m love really exists, or if only m/f love is real. And he said he'd show her. Then the guy he settled down with and basically married then cheated on him with a woman. Now, I'm close to this character's generation and I get why that fucked him up bad. Yes bisexuality is a thing and totally valid but when he grew up it was seen as debateable if women could truly love each other & be satisfied with only that. Same with men/men. So this would have felt like his sister and everyone who'd been saying such things in his hearing since he was a kid... They won. He's older now and knows intellectually that this is bullshit. But I so get why this screwed with him and he has to fight against buying into their narrative of his story.
The fact that he confesses the story to Wen though - he wants babygirl to understand why he can't do this, but the openness and communication is just making it more and more clear why Wen knows he has a chance and why they do work. Jim never says yes but doesn't say never and he's allowing Wen into his life and opening doors.
some of these scene to scene cuts are so rough. dear editor wyd ;)
But then Wen confesses he's on the demolition project. Noooooooooo the man of his dreams doesn't want his free labor & in-person pining tonight.
lmaooooo even when they're fighting he stops to coax his pseudo step-nephew.
The millennial lgbt urge to mentor stray baby gays.
Can't even imagine handling all my old disaster gay mess and also playing guardian to a teenager who doesn't want to study or raise his GPA but expects to make a great life for himself on his own in the USA by working odd jobs, without (again, the studying) gaining english fluency. This is all painfully realistic and Jim is honestly way more chill about this situation than I'd be.
LMAOOOOOOO Wen's step dad is pretty chill himself and accepting, and then Jim shows up and he's like, ..you call him uncle? I felt like I could see him wondering if this is like a daddy kink situation 😂😭. But Dad can roll with this, I am totally seeing where Wen gets his...how he is lol.
This is like the perfect example of an age gap couple where the generation difference makes it work better. They have differing perspectives but they ultimately appreciate that about each other. And it's not that vibe where older man is guiding a naive young person. There is actually zero daddy dynamics involved here. Jim is not a fatherly figure to him in any way. Wen is late 20's uni graduate with a job and he doesn't feel virginal or hapless or ignorant at all. He has his own insights and Jim legitimately is interested in hearing his thoughts & advice. The drama seems pretty thoughtful about portraying a relationship between 2 people who are from different generations of the queer community.

pulling threads #241323
inflation being spoken of as ‘balloon expands when air blows in’ is embarrassing, terrible, awful. if such childish analogies are attempted in science conferences there will be a lot of humiliation that awaits the speaker. i will now try my own idiot-man’s version of trying to work out my thoughts. from what i understand, the govt prints money into existence lets consider a period of time when it has printed quantity M units of currency. if the country in question now creates goods and services whose value reliably equals M, there is parity - there’s growth because the quantity M in circulation reflects all the goods there are or all the infrastructure there is in the country. now what is G’s best route to do this? let me consider options.. it can either hand this M units of money to banks who then loan it out to companies creating debt that collects interest (which when paid back fully, is M+dM including the return on the bank’s investment), or it can freebie ‘hand it to bigwigs’ by slashing interest rates for bigwigs to near zero. in this second case, real money with real value that can be exchanged for goods is left unconditionally with bigwigs who are ‘trusted to be geniuses wrt investing’. the hope, is that they will create huge manufacturing and other jobs, that build *infrastructure* - i.e. something real and tangible that comes out of said money M as we discussed earlier. now do these hotshots do what we expect them to do? no. the myth seems to be that they will make big factories, employ people to make pots out of clay, machines out of mud, clothes out of plants blahblah and give them salaries for the value they add. the salaries in turn get used up to buy these goods, people carry wealth and ‘development’ as measured by how much total goods+money they hold as their own. in reality, a lot of this money flows out of the economy and lives in shelters. a tiny amount gets invested, but not in anything that reflects value, but in a ‘stock’ that others are encouraged to invest retail in, essentially a rigged exercise the odds of which are usually stacked in favor of the bigwig. the other awful solution is for the govt to take some of the spending and manufacturing tasks into its own hands, and make sure money is handed out after the value is created. here too, people are people and they leach - there is corruption, money flowing to shelters, unfinished useless goods ‘valued’ high by govt releasing funds, bureaucrats doing the swindling this time. plenty-of-evidence that trickle-down econ is a fairlytale, as is now easily googlable. the water that is poured at the top floor mostly flows out to a secret stash outside, and only a miniscule amount even circulates in the real economy for it to trickle anywhere. ultimately, the pot of money M needs to be distributed to people who do the work of making the finished goods in proportion to all they do, including the CEO and the fund managers. one could even pay people in proportion to the risk they take, the stress they swallow. but when M becomes 0.2M because 0.8 flies out to shelters never to be seen again we have a bad system. i think a good answer is to have a mixed system that ‘churns’ regularly, seeing both public and private sides competing. when things get too big on scale they command too much power and call dibs on M.  if there’s a fire in the second floor, maybe the water needs to be poured in it to douse it - not on the 51st floor to trickle down. an alternative approach could be to give people some of the amount ‘M’ and ask them to reward whichever production that is most needed by them. if one keeps marketing and hogwash to a tolerable amount people will spend on what they need first - and work jobs to supplement their income with a larger portion of M they command say over, but without living in embarrassingly dire, worthless conditions. europe does some of all this, which is one reason people live more human there and less like beasts. there is a lot of shaggy-dog-stories that pass for deep wisdom in some of these matters, and things don’t fucking work. it’s terrible, awful. unless we all plan to sacrifice our necks to babies wearing golden diapers, it behooves us to at least use our skepticism to try and smell bullshit when it’s dealt.

WFH Blues
The way we work was served a major paradigm shift during COVID. Suddenly, most of us found ourselves working from home 100% of the time. That whole thing about work-life balance suddenly tilted the other way, and in many cases, not only were we working from home, but working when we wanted to from home.

But now that COVID—although still among us, but in diminished numbers—is slipping into the rear view, companies have continued to demand their employees return to the office, at least for part of the week. Amazon is the latest, requiring a minimum of thee days’ presence starting this May.
Well, there’s all that real estate these companies have. Empty offices don’t make much sense, and since they are a sunk cost with likely ongoing debt service, I can understand why some CEOs and others in upper management want to see their employees return. Or maybe it’s really just all about control. You decide.

Regardless of how total WFH is slowly slipping away in a growing number of cases, even the hybrid model is wreaking havoc on other businesses. Notably, restaurants near office complexes—meaning either central business districts or corporate campuses—are feeling the effects of less employee presence. It has gotten to the point that Mondays and Fridays are becoming near ghost towns at some eateries, and they are struggling to adapt.
Tumblr media
Restaurants that cater to the corporate crowd often find themselves rather quiet on weekends to begin with, but if the weekend is now four days, it means a new business model is needed, and fast. They are paying rent for 168-hour weeks, not just a few days. I’m convinced, though, that even those three remaining days may not be like they were before COVID.
It’s sobering to think that even just a couple of decades ago, WFH would not have been feasible for many people. Broadband internet had not become a public utility like it is now, and Zoom and Teams were not even an office worker’s dream. It was during the pandemic that I was able to see how much I could save by not dining out. It was then I fell in love with cooking, if only out of necessity. And once we returned to campus, I just started bringing my lunch many days. I hardly ever go out for lunch anymore.
And then there are the people who are still able to WFH all the time, in spite of the recent return to offices. These are people who not only do not need a prepared meal, but also do not need office wear. Can anyone say yoga pants and t-shirts? Yeah. Let the ripples through the economy continue.

As for me, I have been in hybrid work mode ever since 1997, when we started offering online courses. It is a blessing and a curse, because it means I can take my work with me. The problem is, I can take my work with me. It’s a seven-day-a-week job that goes on from daybreak to bedtime, all of which I am good with. But just know that sometimes I am coming at you from a hotel room.

I see the changes around me, too. I am not the only one doing WFH on a pretty large scale. Most of my colleagues teach two of their three courses online, because that is where the demand is. It also means fewer students on campus. All of this means fewer people dining in the food court in my building, or across the street at a variety of places. We’re just not doing life and work the way we did, and we can thank the digital era for it.

In the future, smart companies will figure out how to downsize their real estate footprint. I hear all the talk about collaboration and such, but I am not convinced. I collaborate just as well from afar, and prefer it. I get far more done at home than at campus, because I am always tempted to pop in someone’s office for idle chit-chat, and definitely not to collaborate, even if it is friendly fun. And then there are all the random interactions in the hallway or at the water cooler. Time sucks, I tell you. My most productive hours each day are the three hours I put in at home before actually going to work.
We are in a state of transition, and I suspect that once the current managers cycle out because of retirement, they will be replaced by the people who thrived during COVID and learned how to WFH. The workplace of the future will necessarily be connected, yet at the same time separated. Employees will work whatever hours they wish, unless there are scheduled Zoom meetings. Asynchronous will be the guiding principle.

Well, a guy can dream, right? I’m just glad I’m not one of those restaurateurs wondering if they’re going to make it to the end of the month.

#City23: 1st Week of February
Crossposted to Cohost
I've written about my #City23 projects here and on Tumblr. You can check out my last post. I still have two #City23 projects I'm working on: a fantastical version of Nottingham during the high middle ages and a contemporary fictional city in Maine called Cape Crescent.
As noted in that end-of-Janaury post, I spent most of January (minus a break) working on the area around Nottingham's Bar Gate and Cape Crescent's "main street": Pine State Highway. That was a bit of a struggle since I felt like I was filling in "gaps" for a city that hadn't been sufficiently sketched out yet, but did give me a sense of what the locals in both cities are like.
Nottingham
For February '23 in Nottingham, I'm focusing on Nottingham Castle. While Nottingham was not anywhere near the size of London at this time, the castle, a royal residence, meant that the city was far more cosmopolitan than one might expect, with large French, English, and Jewish communities. The castle isn't just a physical space, it's a symbol of the sheriff's authority as the royal appointee. Thus it's the headquarters of a sizable faction and a base of its power.
Tumblr media
This week, I started with the outer bailey, and I think I may camp out a bit. The first line of yards, gardens, and buildings within the castle's outermost wall, the bailey is the home and workplace of many common folks in the sheriff's service. I started with a random guard-generator, including what after-effects from last night are distracting the guard:
Distractions from Last Night
None: Attentive
Gambling debts
Caught cheating in love or at cards
Unrequited infatuation
Family disputes
Lost a brawl, wants revenge
I also started work on the castle's large outer stables and kennel (because I'm in charge, I've decided there's a separate royal stable and kennel further into the castle). My Robin Hobb fandom is showing through. This gave me three NPCs in quick succession: Kado the stable boy, his best friend (and likely crush) Nin who assists in the kennel, and the late stable master and kennel master Warinfried. Kado and Nin have some arcane talents (including some that haven't occurred in Sherwood), and Warinfried's body was buried in the tunnels below the castle without removing the necromantic ring he stole from the sheriff. This could be why folks in the outer bailey's brewery have reported seeing signs of a ghost. If Warinfried is haunting the castle now, who knows what he might do to revenge himself on Kado, who murdered him, or Nin, who Kado was trying to protect? I've also name-dropped Wainfried's patron, Raimund, the castle's steward/seneschal and a son of the sheriff, who I'd love to develop a bit more.
So far, the castle is a lot of Norman and Breton dudes, so over this next week, I'd like to diversify the population a bit.
Cape Crescent
In Cape Crescent, I wanted to begin digging into two explicitly hostile factions: the cult-like Grove and the loosely Pentex-inspired Ghost Bay Foundation. Over the past week, I've worked on Pine State Realty, a mid-sized real estate agency near the middle of town that doubles as an administrative front for Ghost Bay Foundation. Over the past week, I've identified three NPCs who work there:
Ramji Davindran dropped out of grad school to come work in Cape Crescent and discover why his sister disappeared. He covered his tracks well, and so far the only person I've found who knows about his real purpose is...
Cornelia Richards, the office manager, isn't supposed to know much about the Ghost Bay Foundation or the realty's real purpose but knows almost all of it. She may even know more than...
Ted Cliff, the "owner" of the real estate agency and a Ghost Bay administrator, is supposed to know way more than he's actually figured out about the employees he keeps around to create a more compelling front.

Financial Consultants Near Me
The Role of Financial Consultants: Guiding You Towards Financial Success
In an increasingly complex financial landscape, managing personal or business finances can be daunting. Whether it's planning for retirement, managing investments, or navigating the intricacies of tax laws, the need for expert guidance has never been greater. This is where financial consultants come into play. These professionals offer specialized advice to help individuals and businesses achieve their financial goals, ensuring that resources are allocated wisely and effectively.
What Do Financial Consultants Do?
Financial Consultants Near Me, also known as financial advisors, provide a wide range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of their clients. They help in creating financial plans, offering investment advice, and developing strategies for long-term wealth management. Their role involves assessing a client's financial situation, understanding their goals, and recommending the best course of action to achieve those goals.
One of the primary tasks of a financial consultant is to create a comprehensive financial plan. This plan outlines the client’s current financial situation, including assets, liabilities, income, and expenses. It also sets long-term financial goals, such as retirement, buying a home, or funding education, and outlines the steps needed to achieve these goals. The plan may include budgeting, tax planning, investment strategies, and risk management.
Importance of Financial Consultants
The importance of financial consultants cannot be overstated, especially in today’s volatile economic environment. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that the average person may lack. Financial consultants stay up-to-date with market trends, tax laws, and financial products, which allows them to provide informed advice. This expertise helps clients avoid common pitfalls, such as making poor investment decisions or failing to plan for retirement.
For businesses, financial consultants play a crucial role in strategic planning and financial management. They assist in optimizing cash flow, managing debt, and ensuring that financial practices align with the company’s long-term objectives. In times of economic uncertainty, having a financial consultant can make the difference between weathering the storm and facing financial ruin.
How to Choose the Right Financial Consultant
Selecting the right Financial Consultants Near Me is critical to achieving your financial goals. It's important to choose someone with the right qualifications, experience, and a track record of success. Look for certifications such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), which indicate a high level of expertise.
Additionally, consider the consultant’s approach to financial planning. Some may take a holistic approach, considering all aspects of your financial life, while others may specialize in areas like investment or retirement planning. It’s also essential to ensure that the consultant's interests align with yours; for instance, fee-only consultants are paid directly by clients and do not earn commissions from selling financial products, which can reduce conflicts of interest.
Conclusion
In conclusion, financial consultants are invaluable resources for anyone looking to secure their financial future. They provide the expertise and guidance needed to navigate the complexities of financial management, helping clients make informed decisions and achieve their financial goals. Whether you are an individual planning for retirement or a business seeking to optimize financial practices, a financial consultant can offer the strategic advice needed to succeed in today’s economic landscape.

Safeguarding Your Farmland Investment: Important Precautions
City life has its perks, but the pandemic highlighted its limitations. Crowded conditions and reliance on external resources like drinking water and food underscored the importance of having natural resources nearby. This realization has led many to consider owning farmland closer to major cities. However, you don’t need a crisis to appreciate the benefits of such properties. Fresh air, pure water, soothing breezes, and picturesque scenery are invaluable in daily life.
As more people recognize the advantages of owning farmland or farmhouses—either as investments or as retreats from urban life—the demand for such properties is rising. The search for "farm land for sale near me" or "agricultural land for sale near me" has increased significantly. Managed farmland, in particular, has caught the attention of potential buyers.
While this trend is positive, many face challenges with the legal and technical aspects of the buying process. Here are six essential precautions to consider when purchasing managed farmland near your area.
1. Proximity to Urban Areas
While it's fine to buy land far from the city, if you’re accustomed to urban life, avoid choosing farmland too distant. For instance, if you live in Bangalore, consider options like managed farmland near Mysore Road. Being too far from the city can be inconvenient, especially if you need services such as gadget repairs that require city resources.
Buying farmland close to the city allows you to enjoy the serene environment without being too far from essential services, including critical medical facilities. This balance ensures that you can address issues and access amenities promptly while enjoying the benefits of rural life.
2. Release Certificate from the Bank
Securing a valid release certificate from the bank is crucial. This certificate confirms that there are no loans or other commitments on the property. Additionally, ensure you have an encumbrance certificate to verify that the land is debt-free legally. Collect all necessary documents, including property tax receipts and government approvals, to avoid future complications.
3. Tax Payable
Clarify the taxes associated with farmland use, even if you’re purchasing managed farmland. Detailed inquiries about applicable taxes and their payment schedules are essential. Some taxes are annual, others biannual, or monthly. Understanding these details helps you anticipate future expenses and stay compliant with tax regulations.
4. Title Deed
A clear title deed is essential when investing in property. Ensure that all deeds are transparent and that you have complete ownership of the farmland. Conduct a thorough check to confirm that no one else has claims on the property. Resolve any disputes legally and keep a copy of all documents for future reference.
5. Permissions
Obtain all necessary permissions for any future construction or modifications to your property. Whether you plan to add rooms, make minor changes, or maintain livestock, ensure that all paperwork is in order. Clear any potential obstacles to smooth and legally compliant property development.
6. Renovation Needs
Address all renovation needs before moving in. Collaborate with your property dealer to complete necessary changes in advance. This approach ensures that your farmhouse meets your preferences and is in the desired condition upon your arrival, making the transition smoother and more enjoyable.
Summary
Sharanya Farms near Mysore Road is an excellent choice for those seeking managed farmland in this area. It offers a perfect blend of proximity to the city and the tranquility of nature, making it ideal for a splendid weekend getaway or a peaceful retirement life.
By taking these precautions, you can navigate the process of buying managed farmland with confidence and ensure a smooth transition to your new rural retreat.

Navigating Financial Options: Finding Personal Loans Near You
In life, unexpected expenses or opportunities often arise when we least expect them. Whether it's covering medical bills, consolidating debt, or making a significant purchase, sometimes we need financial assistance beyond our immediate resources. Personal loans near me offer a flexible solution to bridge these gaps, providing access to funds that can be used for various purposes with manageable repayment terms. If you're considering a personal loan and wondering where to find reliable options near you, this guide will help you navigate the process effectively.
Understanding Personal Loans
Personal loans are unsecured loans typically offered by banks, credit unions, or online lenders. They provide borrowers with a lump sum of money that can be used for almost any purpose, from home renovations to unexpected expenses or debt consolidation. These loans are repaid over a fixed term with regular installments, making budgeting easier and more predictable.
Benefits of Personal Loans
Flexibility: Personal loans can be used for a wide range of purposes, offering flexibility to borrowers based on their financial needs.
Predictable Payments: With fixed interest rates and monthly payments, personal loans provide predictability in budgeting, unlike credit cards with variable rates.
No Collateral Needed: Most personal loans are unsecured, meaning they do not require collateral like a car or home, making them accessible to a broader range of borrowers.
Where to Find Personal Loans Near You
Local Banks and Credit Unions:
Visit branches of banks or credit unions in your area. They often offer competitive rates and personalized service, allowing you to discuss your options with a financial advisor face-to-face.
Online Lenders:
Many reputable online lenders provide personal loans with quick approval processes and competitive terms. Research different lenders and compare rates and terms to find the best fit for your needs.
Loan Comparison Websites:
Websites like Bankrate, NerdWallet, or LendingTree allow you to compare multiple loan offers from various lenders in one place. This can save you time and help you find the best terms available.
Financial Advisors:
If you're unsure about which loan option is best for you, consider consulting a financial advisor. They can provide personalized advice based on your financial situation and goals.
Tips for Choosing a Personal Loan
Interest Rates: Compare interest rates from different lenders to find the most competitive offer. Lower rates can save you money over the life of the loan.
Fees and Charges: Be aware of any fees associated with the loan, such as origination fees or prepayment penalties. These can affect the overall cost of borrowing.
Repayment Terms: Consider the repayment term that fits your budget and financial goals. Shorter terms typically have higher monthly payments but lower overall interest costs.
Conclusion
Finding the right personal loan near you involves researching options, comparing terms, and understanding your financial needs and goals. Whether you choose a local bank, credit union, or online lender, the key is to find a reputable provider that offers competitive rates and terms that suit your circumstances.
At Triple M Finance, our experience and a wealth of industry connections allow us to assist you with your application from start to finish and make the process simple. We take the time to get to know each and every client’s indvidual needs and circumstances to ensure we provide you with your ideal financial solution.
