i just felt like posting this.. WHEN U HAVE ONE OF THE BIGGEST TESTS IN UR LIFE COMING UP BUT U HAVE THERAPY NEXT WEEK AND HEALTH CLINIC SO UR LITERALLY FAILING
hi clari! this is so random but what about screenwriting and film in particular draw u to it? i always found it so interesting how people develop interests and how for some those change frequently and others not so much
feel free to ignore this lol
hi anon! (´∀`)♡ oooh good question! well my first love has always been literature—i read (and wrote!) like a maniac as a kid—so i always consider film (and screenwriting) my second love. i developed my love for film when i was 15 years old, in my high school film class! idk it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what draws me towards film because i love every single aspect of it, but i think one of the big reasons i love it is because it combines multiple art forms (same can be argued for video games! and theatre to a lesser extent); writing, photography (cinematography; framing, shot scale, camera movement, camera angle, blocking, lenses, etc), acting, music, illustration if it’s an animated film, editing in and of itself is an art (the shots + takes chosen, the way they are specifically arranged, the duration of them, the transitions, the colour grading and colour correcting—all of this helps convey meaning in a particular way decided upon by the editor + the director), fashion + costume design, set design, etc etc the list goes on. and it all comes together in this beautiful way to not only create something new, but something that is such a collaborative art piece. you can technically make a film on your own, obv, especially if it’s an art or avant-garde film, but it’s quite hard to make a fully narrative film entirely on your own. you need other people and you need other people with expertise in all areas of art, and i think it’s so beautiful that these people will come together to create something! film in and of itself is a celebration of art in general, of art in all forms and types.
more specifically, i like screenwriting as a mode of storytelling because it more often than not focuses on the characters (character driven stories are my favourite type of stories); the characters tell us SO much even if the story is more plot driven than character driven, and the show don’t tell rule is heavy heavy heavy in film + screenwriting, especially since it’s a visual art. when you write for film, you are using almost solely dialogue (a few actions and directions but 90% or so is dialogue unless u write like wes anderson) to convey a story. that’s fucking hard, but it’s so rewarding when you get it right.
Learn about Canada’s EQAO program in canada, a test to check students’ learning. EQAO is a test in Canada to see how well we’re doing in school. It helps make school better.
i hope that two years from now my little cousin and his classmates carry on the time-honored tradition of joking that EQAO stands for Evil Questions Attacking Ontario
so in the US we have state mandated tests or exams to prove you know stuff but they still let u pass even if u do shit on it its to collect data and see how they can improve curriculum n stuff
here in Texas it's called staar (state of Texas assessment for academic readiness (I have it memorized)) but it goes by different names per state but their all pretty similar being around 50 questions on subject. depending on the grade u will take diffrent stars I think my middle school and elementary school one had essay sections and a personal writing section.
PSAT and SAT. are used to help with collage emissions if you get rlly good scores u can get like scholarships n stuff a new of Mt friends have them but you can tell by my amazing academics I really care about those/j
theirs apparently other ones (thanks Navi bc I wouldn't have known otherwise) that are for other collage stuff and aren't don't by the college board
im great at non math standardized testing tho preforming way above average for my age group
Yeah, we don’t have that, and the thing that is most similar is EQAO.
“The EQAO is the provincial Education Equality and Accountability Office. It is an independent govern- ment body that develops and oversees reading, writ- ing and mathematics tests that Ontario students must take in Grades 3, 6, 9, and 10.”
For college and university emissions they look at your top 6 Grade 12 college or university classes (ie Grade 12 U English is needed in order to get into any university after high school) <- reason why I took an extra English course.
I SUCKED at math though; failed Grade 10 Academic math twice but went to Applied and passed with flying colours.
Haycarts this entire time I thought you studied architecture 🤦♀️
I actually did my undergrad in archaeology and classical history! And then due to various issues I worked in Not That Field for a while, got fed up, and went back to school for architecture. Now I'm working in construction and doing night classes for electrical engineering. So it's been a bit of a journey.
(Also did concurrent teacher's college with my undergrad, did 1 year of placement in a grade 2/3 split in a Catholic school, aka first communion AND EQAO, and realized that teaching just wasn't for me.)
