Make sure to follow my art blog @amat3ur-ed1t0r---art-blog !!
What's up! Online, I go by "Editor", "Amateur", “Teagan/Teabag” or "Assassin"! Mostly my 3 friends on Roblox call me 'Assassin' or ‘teabag’ because it was one of my past display names, but anyways. Let's get back to introducing myself, shall we? Above, you can call me any of those. I don't really care which one. There's also a short form for Amateur that isn't used often, which is "Ama". It's only been used like three times.
I mostly do art in my sketchbook or on Ibis Paint. I sometimes find digital art a bit more challenging which is why I draw on paper a lot of the time. I mostly draw with pencils, because it's simple and easy. Or sometimes once I'm finished I outline my work with paint markers or alcohol markers. I love making fanart or just art in general. It's my favourite thing to do! I barely let anyone look at my art, (except for my one friend) sooo.. yeaah.
My pronouns are she/her. So, make sure to use those. I am an Aries, my birthday is April 7th. I'm from Canada and I enjoy it here! ^_^ My current hyperfixations are TMNT and JJK!!! I like basically any iteration. Especially 2012 and Rise. I listen to music a LOT, it's one of my favourite things! <3 As I said before, or didn't, I am an artist. Not that good but decent. My favourite YouTube channels are Special Edd & The Boys. I also recently found another small channel, Saverino, who's content is pretty enjoyable. You should check it out.

Beta Editor / Trim Reblogs Masterpost
This is just a spot to gather all my posts about the beta / legacy editors and cutting posts into one place, mostly so it's in one easily shareable link for people who ask. (Last updated February 21, 2023.)
WHAT'S EVEN GOING ON — This long post explains pretty much everything in great detail. It covers the different editors, the different extensions required for cutting posts and how they work, some glitches you may encounter, and reasons the two systems aren't compatible. I highly recommend reading this one before any of the others, as it provides the most context.
TRIM REBLOGS GUIDE — An overview to just Trim Reblogs.
USING TRIM REBLOGS WITH THE LEGACY EDITOR — If you aren't willing to commit to the beta editor yet, at least learning how to use trim reblogs will make a world of difference to your partners using it.
BETA EDITOR OVERVIEW — An overview to the beta editor, the differences it has from legacy as well as its new features.
TRANSFERRING THREADS TO BETA / TRIM REBLOGS — An overview of how to actually go about transferring threads cut with the old system (editable reblogs) to the new system (trim reblogs).
DOUBLE POSTING GLITCH 1 + HOW TO FIX — Goes over a glitch you may encounter when using trim reblogs on a post that was originally made with the legacy editor, causing your reply to duplicate upon posting.
DOUBLE POSTING GLITCH 2 + HOW TO FIX — Goes over a glitch you may encounter when using editable reblogs on a post that was originally made with the beta editor, causing your partner's reply to duplicate upon posting.

Occam's Bedtime
Read on AO3
Once the invasion officially ended, there was a lot of catching up to do. The family spent more time apart than together over those few days, so they had quite a bit of information to exchange once they all had their feet back on terra firma. They stayed up into the latest hours of the night together, all battle-weary and wired from so many hours spent in ninja mode, trying to piece together the events. It was a big sadistic game of connect-the-dots.
Donnie skimmed over his extended capture and interrogation at Zanramon’s hand, April recounted the time she and Casey spent in captivity, and the turtles worked together to tell the tale of their capture by Agent Bishop. They were all so wrung out, emotionally and physically, that they couldn’t even muster the proper tone to voice the horrors that just kept coming. Leo sounded so clinical as he described Bishop and his bone saw buzzing so dangerously close to Mikey’s plastron.
An extra inch—just one more inch, and it would have been a very different story.
When Raph’s head slipped and fell onto Leo’s shoulder with a huge snore, they finally decided it was time for bed. Casey invited April to stay the night at his place for safety, but Splinter overrode him by telling them both to stay the night. He would feel better having them all under one roof, so to speak, he told them.
So Splinter personally saw to it that Casey was made comfortable on the cot in Donnie’s train-car lab, April was tucked in on the couch, and each of his sons made it safely to their own beds. Leatherhead, having skipped Professor Honeycutt’s sendoff in favor of some sound sleep, was still snoring away on the tidy cot he built himself on Mikey’s bedroom floor. Donnie had literally begged him to let someone check on those thickly-wrapped injuries, but he wouldn’t hear of it.
From the comfort of his bed, Donnie made sure the lair was securely locked down and the perimeter sensors were armed before their home finally succumbed to the stillness of night.
  Leo felt like he had only been asleep for minutes when he was startled awake. He laid stiff as a board in his bed, not even breathing as he listened for the source of the disturbance. His heart jumped in his chest when he heard it again. It was downstairs, near the elevator doors. Something was moving around. Something person-sized.
He rolled out of bed soundlessly and grabbed up his swords in the same motion. His heartbeat roared in his ears as sticky fear rose in his throat. Who followed them home, a stray triceraton squadron, Bishop’s men? Who would be holding the blade to his family’s throat this time?
He stepped into the hall slowly, straining his ears to listen for more than just shuffling down below. He recognized Raphael’s shadow across the hallway, doing the very same thing. Their eyes met and without a word passing between them, they formed a plan. Leo nodded to him and stepped out first, hugging the wall. His breathing and footfalls were equally silent, but his heart kept pounding an alarm in his chest that he was sure Raphael could hear.
There were no lights on below, and no flashlights either. Whoever it was, they either had excellent night vision or night-vision goggles to aid them. His instincts rushed him, yelling to hurry and make his move before they got to April on the couch. For all he knew they had already silently slit her throat.
No! He couldn’t think like that. It wasn’t helping the dizzying beat of his heart or the sweat gathering on the back of his neck. He forced his movements to remain slow and silent; whoever it was down there, he had to assume April wasn’t their primary target anyway.
Raphael went around the opposite direction on the circular second floor, looking down from a different angle. He shook his head, indicating he couldn’t see anything down there either. They continued to move slowly in tandem, working their way around to meet at the stairway down. Before they could begin their descent, they caught sight of the “intruder” and both sagged with a synchronized sigh of relief.
It was only Donnie, standing precariously on the very top of the kitchen stepladder with his night vision goggles on. He was messing with something mounted into the brick wall there.
“Donnie,” Leo hissed.
Don startled, jolting so harshly that he nearly fell. “Shell,” he said under his breath. He tilted his face, and the clunky goggles, up to look at them. “Leo?”
“What are you doing?” he continued in a stage whisper. “You’re lucky Raph and I didn’t skewer you!”
“Go back to bed,” he shot back. His voice cracked under the weight of his exhaustion.
Leo hesitated, looking at Raph over his shoulder. He only shrugged. “Not unless you do too. Come on, it’s been a long…days.”
Donnie shook his head stubbornly and carried on with his fiddling. Whatever he was messing with, he broke it free from the wall and took the screwdriver in hand to the poor thing.
Leo’s gaze drifted past Don. He squinted into the darkness and mapped out unfamiliar shadows in this room he knew like the back of his own hand. Vague shapes of furniture—lamps, bookshelves, Sensei’s armchair, were all pulled away from their regular spots and bare. Books were stacked haphazardly on the floor, the lamps were missing their shades, throw pillows had been separated from their covers, and knickknacks were overturned and left in piles.
And the thing he’d pulled off the wall, it was one of the security cameras he had painstakingly restored and modified with his own two hands. He seemingly paid no mind to the precious thing as he ripped into circuitry and plastic casing. Pieces fell around the stepladder like rain.
He was looking for bugs.
Leo turned again and met Raph’s eyes. He appeared to have reached the same conclusion, mouth set in a grim line and maskless eyes dark.
“Donnie,” Leo whispered again. “Let’s go up to the garage so we can talk without waking anyone.”
Donnie paused, but he didn’t move to follow as they made their way down the steps and toward the elevator door.
“You haven’t checked up there yet, have you?”
Donnie remained still, clearly taking his time to think it over. That was alright by Leo, he was used to that much. Once the logic of it broke through to him, he put down his screwdriver and the ruins of his camera to wordlessly follow.
All three of them winced in the light of the elevator. Leo and Raph had removed their masks for sleeping hours beforehand, but Donnie was still wearing his. It didn’t make his tired, bloodshot eyes any less obvious.
Raph led the way out of the elevator and into the warehouse above. While Don’s lab downstairs was mostly for his chemistry and technology-based pursuits, the workshop above was where he stretched his engineering muscles. The place had all of the trademark genius mess to prove it; oil stained rags, wrenches of varying size and shape, blueprints, spray paint, and countless other tools lay scattered about every horizontal surface, including the floor. No doubt that the beat-up Battleshell would be seeing a lot of attention in the coming weeks, and they would see less of their brother in turn.
Day was already well into breaking on the surface, with orange-pink light seeping in between the boards over the windows. Leo flicked on the florescent shop lights and they all winced again.
While Leo and Raph hung back by the workbench near the door, Donnie paced the length of the warehouse and back.
“Have you slept at all?” Leo asked.
Don shook his head vigorously, not turning to look at him.
“Donnie, I know it’s been rough the last couple’a days, but you gotta sleep, bro. You look beat.”
“I can’t sleep until I figure out how he knew.” Donnie didn’t stop pacing, didn’t raise his head. His voice was dangerously low.
Raph and Leo exchanged a glance to confirm that no, neither one of them knew what he was talking about. Raph shrugged, which indicated it was Leo’s turn again.
“Who knew what, Don?”
“Bishop,” he spat out. His hand went to the place over his shoulder, where Bishop had carved samples out of their shells while they were unconscious. The back of that hand had a bandage over it that matched his brothers’, where Bishop had taken a sample of their skin. “He knew about us somehow. I slipped up somewhere, and I have to figure out where so he can’t get anything else on us.”
“Donnie…” Leo trailed off helplessly. His pacing was increasing in speed and fervor, he moved like a restless animal in a cage.
Something they so easily could have become.
“That ain’t your fault.” Raph’s tone left little room for argument. “It coulda been any of us that tipped him off, or somethin’ else altogether. For all we know, he’s in Saki’s pocket too!”
“He’s not!” Donnie yelled. He whirled on them, a few yards away, with his fists clenched white-knuckle tight at his sides. “He was in my security system! I decided not to make it closed-circuit so I could monitor it when we’re away, so I could keep an eye on Master Splinter, and he must have gotten in somehow! I exposed us! I did this!”
Raph and Leo were both stunned wordless, mouths hanging open. How had Donnie convinced himself, in a matter of hours, that this was the most likely scenario?
“There’s no way to know that,” Raph said flatly.
Donnie took a few angry steps closer, and Raph actually took a step back. “He knew!” he screamed. “He knew our names, he could tell us apart, he went right for Mikey!" He took a ragged breath and threw his arms in the air. "How? How else would he have known all that?”
Leo watched him, chest heaving and trembling all over with anger, waiting for the next outburst. When nothing else happened, he approached him slowly with a hand palm-out, the way one might approach a growling dog. Once his hand closed over Donnie’s shoulder, he slowly drew closer until Donnie let himself be gathered into a hug.
“If he’d been in your security system, he would know where we live. That’s how IP addresses work, right?”
“Sort of,” he mumbled.
“He wouldn’t have wasted time chasing us around the city, he would have just come to get us. Right?”
Donnie’s chest kept heaving with labored breath, and Leo could feel the erratic beat of his heart through his plastron. “He has…he has cameras somewhere.”
Raph decided it was safe to come closer, gently placing a hand on each of his brothers’ shells. “Yeah, D, he does. But they ain’t yours.”
Don pulled out of Leo’s hold and pressed his hands to his head. He let out a short huff.
"Donnie—" Raph started. He stopped when Donnie jerked away from his touch.
“I’m fine,” he snapped. He rubbed at his temples for a moment, then repeated himself quieter. “I’m okay.”
He wasn't going to be winning any Oscars for that little performance.
“Let’s go sit down,” Leo suggested. He took Don by the elbow and guided him back over to the workbench, where he was made to sit with just a little bit of pressure applied to his shoulders.
He leaned back in the creaky old chair and covered his eyes with a hand. “Sorry guys,” he said quietly.
“Stop apologizin’,” Raph grumbled. The usual bite was totally absent from his tone. He propped his shell against the workbench and crossed his arms over his chest while Leo opted to crouch near Don. “Why aren’t you sleepin’?”
Donnie shook his head slightly, opened his mouth to answer, then paused. “Head hurts,” he finally answered.
Leo perked up a bit. That was something he could fix. “Have you taken anything?”
“About…twelve ibuprofen since we’ve been home.”
The two older brothers sucked in a breath at the same time.
"...The little ones."
If by little ones he meant the one hundred milligram dose, that still meant he'd taken four hundredmilligrams more than the maximum prescription strength dose.
“Have you done the stretches Master Splinter showed you?”
“It’s not a tension headache.” Donnie was quiet for a long moment, then murmured, “Will you turn the light off?”
Raph quickly did so, able to reach the switch from where he stood. The harsh florescent lighting in the garage went dark, along with the ever-present hum. He and Leo blinked in the new, soft half-light created by the lightening sky outside.
Donnie moved his hand to the back of his head and carefully unwound the knot of his mask. They had just enough time to wonder why he would do that, rather than just pulling it off as they usually would, before that question answered itself.
They took in another synchronized hiss of breath.
There were two uniform wounds, one on either of his temples, about the size of a nickel. They weren’t big, but they were blistered, with a spiderweb of smaller burn patterns around each one.
Leo made an aborted movement toward one blister. “Did—did Bishop do that?”
Donnie rubbed at the space between his eyes, squeezing them shut even against the darkness. “No,” he answered softly. “The triceratons had some kind of…mind reader device.” His breath came in little gasps for a moment, and both brothers reached out to touch him comfortingly. “They wanted to know where—where Professor Honeycutt was. I could feel it going through everything, I literally saw my entire life flash before my eyes, but I couldn’t let them know where we live, let alone where the Professor was—“ he cut himself off to take a few deep breaths. “Papa got to me. I didn’t know what else to do—I called for him and it was like he was in the room with me all of a sudden, and then it just…stopped.”
The warehouse was resoundingly silent for a long minute.
“Why didn’t you say anything sooner?” Leo breathed.
“Because there was too much else going on.” He hid his face in his hands again, carefully avoiding the blisters. “It wasn’t important.”
“Bull fuckin’ shit—” Raph started.
“Sorry,” he said again.
“What Raph is trying to say,” Leo began pointedly, giving said brother a look from beneath his brow, “is that you’re clearly in pain. If you’d just told us, one of us would have stayed up with you, or at least looked at those wounds—”
“Does it really look that serious?” Donnie raised his head finally and met Leo’s eyes with his own bloodshot ones. Without his mask, the dark circles around his eyes were even more painfully obvious. “It’s a couple of blisters, Leo. My real worry is what caused them. I don’t know how that thing worked or what it did to my head! I-I think it functioned by emitting pulses of a specific electric current and receiving the data in the form of electrical feedback created by firing neurons…” His eyes went faraway, staring into nothing. “It was like having my skull peeled open layer by layer. It's only been a day and I…already can't remember what happened after Pop managed to break through to me. If he hadn't—" He stopped. "I thought it was going to kill me. I thought they were going to get what they wanted, then kill me.”
Leo, crouching beside Don's chair, silently coached himself through a bout of murderous rage. Zanramon was in captivity, his council was in shambles, and Draximus was heading up the reform. They weren't even in the Milky Way galaxy anymore—they couldn't hurt Donnie again. The downside was that Leo couldn't hurt them. He couldn’t make them pay for what they did to his brother. Yes, his friends, yes, his planet, but most of all, his brother.
Despite the fact that he so badly wanted to put his hands on Zanramon’s throat and not let go until the pathetic creature ceased to draw breath, he gently set his hand on Don’s knee instead. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you."
“Hey, I’m sure yer noggin’ is just fine,” Raph said gently. He’d scooted a little closer, but remained stubbornly leaned against the workbench. It was probably for the best; if Leo felt so strongly about this, he couldn’t begin to imagine what kind of bloodlust Raph was suppressing. “You just got a headache, Don. After the couple’a days we had, I’m sure anyone would.”
Donnie didn’t say anything in response. The silence was worse than his screaming—Leo almost wished he would get up and start yelling again, pacing and ranting and going off on the next thing. This silence, the hunched-over, quiet, defeated turtle in front of him, that wasn’t his brother. This wasn’t like him. That mind-reader thing and whatever else they’d done to him…they almost broke him. And if he didn’t bounce back this time, Leo would be hunting them down.
"I have to be sure that he doesn't have our place wired," Donnie murmured.
Leo deflated. Back to this. "There has to be a less destructive way to go about that. And maybe after we've all had some sleep?"
Donnie turned his head to look at Leo, and over his shoulder, Leo saw Raphael frown. He didn't have time to even think about stopping him before Raph reached out and brushed a finger against the side of Don's head, just a little too close to the blister.
Donnie whirled on Raph so quickly that he almost fell out of the chair—Leo's hand shot out to hold him up by the shell—and bared his teeth in a snarl eerily similar to the one Raph so regularly dealt out. Raph took a step back with his hands raised placatingly.
As he realized what just happened, Don's face slowly fell. Before either of the older turtles even knew what was happening, he'd launched himself into Raph's arms and tucked his face between Raph's neck and shoulder. Raphael stood stiff and surprised for a moment, arms held out awkwardly, before slowly shifting them to wrap around Don's shell and give him a gentle squeeze.
"We're gonna be okay, bro," he murmured. He rested his cheek very carefully against Donnie's head and sighed. "You gotta sleep, just trust me."
Donnie nodded against him, finally relenting. If anyone could out-stubborn him, it was going to be Raph.
Leo stood and put a hand on Don's shell. They waited until Don was ready to move, then both kept a supporting hand on him as they made for the elevator once again.
When the elevator doors opened on a figure veiled in shadow, all three turtles snapped to attention. Leo and Raph immediately went for their weapons and stepped between Donnie and the intruder. For all of two seconds they were alarmed, and then Mikey shrieked.
Raph leapt forward to clamp a hand over his mouth. "Shh! Yer gonna wake April."
"Mikey," Leo hissed. Did he have no shortage of brothers to scare the shell off his back in the dark!? "What are you doing up?"
He lazily shuffled into Raph's personal space and bonked his head hollowly against his plastron, using the elder brother to prop up his body. He had a blanket slung over his shoulders and one nunchuck in hand. "I woke up 'n you guys were all gone." He yawned and continued to speak through it, undeterred. “Shoulda known you were havin’ a party without me.”
Raph patted him gruffly on the shoulder, then shoved his weight off. “We were just collecting Donnie here, we’re goin’ back to bed too.”
Mikey shuffled in place and grinned sheepishly. “Actually…I was gonna get in bed with one of you. That’s how I realized you were gone in the first place.”
Leo sighed, shoulders sagging. “Nightmare?”
He shuddered theatrically. “Bone saw. Eugh.”
“Alright, come on. We missed a spot, so we have to patch up Don, then we can all pile up in my bed.”
All four brothers crossed the lair in the dark toward the one and only bathroom. Mikey tripped over a stray stack of books and yelped again, which kept Raph busy both preventing the youngest brother from completely eating it and talking his way around explaining how the lair had become a mess while they were sleeping. Leo kept a hand on the back of Don’s shell as they walked, paranoid that he would trip and fall too. He probably wasn’t that tired, and Don was more used to staying up all-hours than any of them, but if he really hadn’t slept since getting home…well, Leo felt better being safe than sorry.
Once again, all four turtles winced when they flicked on the lights in the bathroom. Leo sat Donnie on the step of the refurbished-hot-tub-liner bathtub while Raph brought the first aid kit over. Mikey sat himself down beside Donnie and closely inspected one temple while Raph started on the other.
“What happened?”
Donnie side-eyed Mike as best as he could without moving his head. “Vulcan mind meld, minus the Vulcan and meld parts.”
Mikey scoffed out a laugh, but he could recognize Don-avoidance when he heard it. He didn’t ask again. Instead, he got up and knelt in front of the first aid kit to rummage around the pool of loose Band-Aids in the bottom of it.
By the time Raph was in the process of dabbing antibacterial gel on the small, uniform wounds, Mikey had made his selections and closed up the kit.
“There,” Raph said. “Yer all done. Probably won’t even scar.”
"Thanks Raph."
"Step aside, the Bandaid Master is coming through." Mikey bumped Raph to the side with his hip, completely unaware of the fact that he was tempting the fate of his own untimely fratricide. "Blue's Clues for the left." He peeled the stickers off the bandage and stuck it longways across Don's temple in a way that his mask would easily cover it up. "And Barbie of Swan Lake on the right."
"Gee, what a lucky turtle I am," Donnie mumbled.
Mikey smacked a loud, dramatic kiss on the top of his head and nodded. "You really are, you know how much Raphie loves Blue's Clues."
Raph didn’t even deign to respond, just rolled his eyes as he made for the trash can.
“Alright, it’s bedtime.” Leo took both of Donnie’s hands and pulled him to his feet. While he had him close, he gave him a pointed look and asked in a low voice, “Do you need something for the headache? Something more than ibuprofen?”
Donnie blinked slowly, then shook his head. “No. It feels a little better.”
He tried for a smile. “Must have been the Bandaid Master’s touch.”
Donnie smiled a little bit too. World weary, more exhausted than words could say, but not broken. His smile still worked, and so did that deadpan sarcasm. Raph was right, they really would be okay.
Leo slung an arm over Don’s shoulders as they trudged to bed, all yawning and dragging their feet. Without a doubt, this was the longest night of their lives. What started in a secret government bunker would end still underground, but home. No cold laboratory, no sinister agent. Just family—brothers—and soft, warm beds.
Raph and Mikey both split off to grab pillows and blankets from their own rooms and rendezvoused in Leo’s room. They approached the full-size mattress strategically; Leo boarded first, pushing his own sleeping accoutrements to the wall and butting his shell up against it. Don followed, trying and failing to claim a little bit of personal space for himself—his shoulder ended up pressed up against Leo’s. Raph followed, tossing his pillow down beside Don’s head with much aplomb, and rolled into the bed similarly. His shell knocked up against Don’s side, but they fit.
And then Mikey. Poor, poor Mikey tried to make it work, laying on top of his brother’s legs first, then, when all three of them complained at length, trying to curl up in the small space between Leo and Don’s legs. That lasted about sixty seconds, generously, before he gave up on that too.
He stood at the end of the bed with his hands on his hips, barely visible in the darkness. “There’s gotta be a better way.”
“Sleepin’ in yer own bed?” Raph grumbled. His words were so sleepy and slurred that they were close to unintelligible.
“No, Raphael. A better bed.”
“We won’t exactly fit in the hammock,” Donnie said.
“C’mon. I know exactly where to go.”
Leo and Raph groaned in tandem.
Donnie heaved the heaviest sigh and willingly surrendered his blanket to Mike's grabby hands. "Where are we going?"
"Shh, trust the process. Come on, up, up!"
Leo could just stay in bed—it was his bed, after all—but he had no interest in sleeping alone anymore. Knowing that at least two of his brothers were in some form of distress was more than enough to activate his protective sibling instincts.
So, arms loaded with pillows and blankets again, Mikey led the turtles four down the stairs...again.
The glide of wood in Splinter's sliding door frame was an inherently comforting sound to Leo, this time no different than the others. Splinter met them there despite having slept through the previous disturbances, as if woken by some innate sense that they were coming.
"My sons," he said, voice scratchy with sleep. "What's wrong?"
"Nothin', Sensei," Mikey chirped. "We're here for the sleepover."
He smiled softly. "Ah, yes. The sleepover. I've been expecting you. Please, come in." He stepped aside as they filed in, then slid the door closed behind them.
They all collapsed into the tatami that Splinter's futon sat atop. There was much rustling as quilts were shoved beneath bodies, pillows were swapped and fluffed, and blankets were wrapped around shells. Splinter lay in the center of it all, with Leo closest to the door on the outside and Mikey in the next layer, then Donnie and Raph on Splinter's other side. Though it was hard to tell in the dark, Leo was pretty sure Mikey was using their father as a pillow.
The soft sounds of sleep filled the room not a moment later. Leo stretched out on his plastron and sighed contentedly. When he closed his eyes, he imagined being in the nest with his father as a child. Small enough to hold, with three brothers beside him, and a warm, soft father to snuggle into on winter nights in a simpler, cozier time for his little family.
He fell asleep to the symphony of his family's quiet breath in the dark.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episodes 95 and 96 Subbed (Finalized)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Previously: Episodes 93 and 94 Subbed [Finalized])
(Check out my Subbed!GX Stream Masterpost!)
TURN-95: A Ruthless Brotherly Duel -- Ryou VS Shou
Wishing for his kind and respectable brother to be himself again, Shou challenges the Hell Kaiser to a duel. But a callous Ryou conditions it on having a duel in which an electric current will rush through them with every drop in their Life Points. And so, a brotherly duel begins between Ryou and Shou. Shou does develop his dueling--respecting his opponent as always--but Ryou pounces on him, in full command of the Cyber Style's Reverse deck.
TURN-96: The Relativity Field! Judai VS the Genius Doctor
In order to take back one of his important keys, a Saiou struck by the Waves of Light once again sends in an assassin against Judai. The assassin is Zweinstein, a genius physics expert with a deck made logically--Judai's weakest point of all. Zweinstein activates his Relativity Field to start things off. He then summons* a Monster that negates Judai's Fusion, his forte, gaining an edge as the duel unfolds. *This is referencing Singularity Demon's effect in the episode, but he doesn't actually summon it; it's more of a hand-trap he discards to negate Fusion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got my subs for episodes 95 and 96 all nice and finalized!
These two episodes are a great time, but 95 in particular is great. It's the culmination of those little bits we've had of Shou observing Ryou's fall from grace since his loss to Ed, knowing he'd face him one day and preparing himself for it, and the whole time they're dueling, he holds onto some hope that he can turn Ryou back into the big brother he knew--only to realize by the end that Ryou, after what he's seen underground, really is just focused on winning, willing to be as "cruel" or "foul" as it takes if it helps. You do feel for the little guy, moreso when this gets flashed back to in 137 during Season 3 (another favorite, as it's a big development episode for Shou). Also, Judai being a friend and watching over him knowing this was his choice to make, building him up about using Power Bond, rushing over once the duel's over--it's sweet.
96 is also one of my favorites because of the good art/dynamic animation, courtesy of Kyoung Soo Lee's animation team (especially those last few scenes after Judai destroys Relativity Field, but just the Solid Vision putting them in space the entire time). The premise isn't too bad, we check in with Misawa who's realizing that just joining the Society of Light isn't enough for him to make a name for himself, and he bumps into God Einstein Zweinstein who tells him that logic beats "coincidence," before he tries to convey this to Judai and prove his Grand Unified Duel Theory. I like the Dueling Physics idea and the Einstein parody (he won a Nobelly Prize!), and the match between his logic and Judai's intuition--and who doesn't enjoy the randomness of Misawa's extra Eureka moment, lmao. Still a bit meh on it being the last we see of him for a while, but it is nice seeing him when he does come back. (Also, I like how it's not at all mentioned how Ojin managed to get a recording of Chronos calling for Judai to trick him with... very GX lol)
Edit-wise, both episodes had a fair amount of animation error fixes I applied; 95 saw more card-related errors than the quick one in 96, while both had a fair share of more quality-of-watching ones with split-screens, incomplete footage frames, or miscolorings (and in Burstlady's case, another missing shoulder strap). Due to Tumblr’s dumb link limit in posts yeeting them out of the tags used for them and limiting their reach, and since I still wanted a visual element to it, I’ve made a separate post here with my usual fix/edit breakdown for the interested--altogether, that's about 26 between both episodes, which I think I hit sometime in S1 when doing double-releases for a bit, but since most were quality-of-watching things, they were pretty quick to work on for the most part.
Anywho, enjoy! Looking forward to revisiting 97 and 98 next as we circle back to the Pro Leagues and get Ed's best episode of the Season in the process; as Judai put it in 96's preview for 97, "Ed's Wheel of Fortune'll suddenly start to turn..."
Evidence that Kabru from Delicious in Dungeon is Indian, a Masterpost
(EDIT: This post is an excerpt/remix of Kabru's section of my larger essay about the real world linguistic and cultural references Dungeon Meshi. You can read the essay on AO3 here. I also have another post about what part of South Asia I think Utaya is based on here.)
Since Kabru’s first appearance in the anime is upon us, I wanted to write something that compiles all the evidence we have that Kabru is meant to be a person of South or Central Asian ethnicity, or at least whatever the equivalent to that is in the Dungeon Meshi world.
Ryoko Kui can and does draw people of many different ethnicities, and the way she draws Kabru matches the way she draws other Asian characters in Dungeon Meshi. He doesn’t look Black, or Hispanic, or any other ethnicity because he isn’t supposed to. He looks like a dark-skinned South or Central Asian person, because that’s what Ryoko Kui probably intends him to be.
So let’s go through the evidence! (There are no spoilers for the plot of Dungeon Meshi below, but there ARE spoilers for Kabru's backstory as explained in the manga, and in extra materials like the Daydream Hour and Adventurer's Guide book.)
KABRU’S NAME
The Dungeon Meshi Adventurer's Bible tells us Kabru’s real name is unknown. There are other characters whose real names are only told to us in the Adventurer's Bible and were never revealed in the manga, but then Kabru, Thistle and Izutsumi’s entries simply say their real names are unknown, and though Kui could tell us their true names, she doesn’t. I assume this means that the characters themselves don’t know what their real names are, and that the names they go by are not their birth names, but this is only a supposition on my part.
KABRU THE MOUNTAIN
Kabru (काब्रु) is the name of a mountain on the border of Nepal and India, and part of the Himalayan range. It’s the 65th tallest mountain in the world and it is very snowy and icy, with frequent avalanches. Because of this, even though it’s not the tallest mountain in the world, climbing it is challenging, and is not often attempted. Those few that have managed to climb it consider it a major achievement.
“This prohibitively fearful icefall… had thwarted numerous expeditions, perhaps even the 'thought' of attempting the mountain… Unstable seracs of the icefall, a complex maze of chasms, and delicate snow bridges spanning seemingly never ending, near bottomless crevasses… Each time the members stepped into the icefall, they stood a good chance of never returning.” (Kabru - Mountain of the Gods, Major A. Abbey, Himalayan Journal 52, 1996, editor Harish Kapadia)
WHAT DOES KABRU’S NAME MEAN?
Kabru is a character that is known for being very good at charming people, but who doesn’t express himself honestly, because he’s trying to manipulate the people and situations around him in order to maintain control at all times. I think nobody really knows who Kabru is deep inside, maybe not even Kabru himself, so a remote, hostile, icy mountain that’s hard to climb seems like an extremely appropriate name.
Some of the oldest English sources I found regarding Kabru suggest that Kabru isn’t the correct local name for the mountain (a common problem in early Himalayan exploration by Europeans) and might just be a descriptor, or that it’s a misspelling.
This makes the name seem even more appropriate, since Kui’s told us Kabru’s true name is unknown. It’s possible that Kabru was a place-name or a descriptor that Milsiril (Kabru’s elven foster mother) was given when she picked up a traumatized 7 year old Kabru, and she just started using it as his name, and that even he doesn’t remember his real name thanks to his severe trauma.
The fact that people in the real world can’t seem to agree on the mountain Kabru’s name, or what it means, reminds me of the running gag of Laios repeatedly getting Kabru’s name wrong in the manga.
"All the people near the Kabru massif call it 'Kaboor'." (The Alpine Journal, 1921-22 Volume 34, Edited by George Yeld and J. P. Farrar)  “It is also said that the name applies to a peak close to Kinchinjunga on the southeast, and not to the peak known to Europeans as Kabru… [The real name is] Pahung Ri [Pauhunri].” (Appendix I: Place Names in Darjeeling. The appendix says it was “compiled mainly from an article written by Colonel Waddell and published in the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal (Vol. LX, part I, 1891)”) “Kangchen is a Tibetan name… the Sikkhimese use it as the name for the peak called Kabru by Europeans.” (Charles Bell, Dyhrenfurth's Himalaya (Berlin, 1931)) “...Kyabru or the horn of protection. The name is… Kabur… possibly a corruption of Kangbur or the swelling of snow; it might also mean the white swelling (kar-bur).” (Appendix I: Place Names in Darjeeling.)  “Kabru literally means the 'White Avalanche' peak (Ka means 'white' and bru means 'avalanche').” (Kabru - Mountain of the Gods, Major A. Abbey, Himalayan Journal 52, 1996, editor Harish Kapadia)
I’ve seen one other mountaineering article cite the “white avalanche” meaning, and I think it’s plausible since the Appendix says it can mean “white swelling” or “swelling of snow”, which may very well be a literal translation for “white avalanche”.
WHAT ABOUT UTAYA? IS THAT INDIAN TOO?
Utaya means “raised” or “uplifted” in Hindi, but it’s also a real village and a Japanese boy’s name.
Utaya (ウタヤ) is the name of the village that Kabru was raised in before his mother died and he was adopted by the elf Milsiril. Utaya is located in the southeast of the Western Continent. It’s worth noting that Kabru probably wasn’t born in Utaya, since his mother had to flee from her home to keep Kabru alive, so Utaya may be some distance away from his birth place… Not so far that a woman with a newborn baby couldn’t survive the trip, but far enough that her husband’s family gave up on chasing her. So Kabru was probably born in a close-by area.
In the real world, Utaya (Yakut: Утайа) is in an extremely rural and isolated area with a population of less than a hundred people. It’s located in the Sakha Republic, which is in the Northeastern part of Asia in the Russian Federation. The Yakut/Sakha are a Siberian Turkic people.
The Turkic peoples are a collection of diverse ethnic groups of West, Central, East, and North Asia as well as parts of Europe, who speak Turkic languages.
Early and medieval Turkic groups exhibited a wide range of both East Asian and West-Eurasian physical appearances and genetic origins, in part through long-term contact with neighboring peoples such as Iranian, Mongolic, Tocharian, Uralic/Yeniseian peoples, and others. Turkic peoples share, to varying degrees, non-linguistic characteristics like cultural traits, ancestry from a common gene pool, and historical experiences.
JAPANESE MEANINGS FOR UTAYA
Utaya can be a Japanese boy’s name with several different meanings, depending on which kanji it’s spelled with. In most of the spellings: Poetry, sing a poem, singing, compose poetry
In many of the spellings: The place where the sun shines, it's been a long time, distant, big, to shoot with a bow, to swear, affirmation, question.
The Utaya disaster happened a long time ago.
If Utaya is up in the mountains above the clouds it’s a place where the sun shines brightly.
 Kabru has sworn to himself that he will prevent another Utaya tragedy from happening.
In only a few of the spellings: to mend, feathers, wings, a word for counting birds and rabbits, sort them out, washing with water to separate the good from the bad, roof, house with a roof, a world covered with a big sky, infinite space, song that praises the Buddha, Eight.
Counting birds and rabbits makes me think of divination and also that the people of Utaya were like little birds and rabbits (small prey animals) to the monsters that devoured them.
Separating the good and the bad could hint to the “judgment” of Utaya and the greed of its people that led to their downfall, also sorting through things to separate good and bad is something that’s done with food and other resources.
The Himalayan region is often referred to as the “roof of the world”, with a big open sky above it.
The infinite could refer to the dimension the demon comes from, or to the sky above the mountains.
Buddhism is a common religion in the Himalayan region, and eight has auspicious connotations in Buddhism.
With all that in mind, Utaya as a name for Kabru’s home village is an interesting choice, and adds another layer to his origins, maybe suggesting not just North Indian/Himalayan, but Central or North Asian cultural influence as well.
It is also possible that the name is just telling us that Utaya is “up” in the mountains, or that it was “uplifted” by the wealth of the dungeon, or even that Kabru was “raised” there… The Japanese name meanings are also extremely fascinating and hint at similar ideas, as well as the tragedy that happened to Utaya.
WHY ELSE DO YOU THINK KABRU AND UTAYA ARE HIMALAYAN?
In the real world, the Himalayan mountain range is an extremely popular tourist destination, and the amount of people who want to visit and attempt to climb the mountains far outpaces the local ability to support it. This makes me think of the dungeon of Utaya and how people overcrowded it in their desire to conquer and exploit it.
Dungeons as an unsustainable way for locals to make a living that leads to the destruction of their homes when the dungeon inevitably collapses is a major plot point in Dungeon Meshi, so I think the parallel is likely intentional. Characters often talk about someone “conquering” the dungeon, and “conquer” is also the terminology commonly used for climbing a mountain. This terminology obviously has a hostile, imperialist subtext in the real world, since it’s most commonly used by outsiders talking about proving their strength by climbing a mountain.
Also, there are local legends in the areas surrounding Mt. Kabru that there is a valley of immortality hidden on its slopes, which reminds me of the way that the dungeons can grant conditional immortality to the people inside of them.
Tumblr media
This image of Utaya could be showing us a village built on a mountainside. The house shapes seem a bit more Middle Eastern than Nepali/Indian, but it’s not a detailed drawing and the roof styles are a mix of flat and peaked.
CULTURE
In the Daydream Hour sketchbook, Ryoko Kui included a small comic about characters sharing desserts from their home countries. A young Kabru is shown enthusiastically trying to share an unnamed sweet, and he is interrupted by his elven foster mother, who insists he present a type of elven cake instead. We know that Kabru hates this type of cake, and he seems disappointed to have to eat it and talk about it.
Tumblr media
The white balls in Kabru’s dessert are very likely meant to be  an Indian sweet called rasgulla (literally "syrup filled ball"). Rasgulla are a dessert popular in the eastern part of South Asia, made from ball-shaped dumplings of chhena dough, cooked in light sugar syrup. While it is near-universally agreed upon that the dessert originated in the eastern Indian subcontinent, the exact origin is disputed. Rasgulla are as culturally important to the Bengal and Odisha regions of India as Parmesan cheese is to the region of Parma in Italy.
Rasgulla are also popular in Nepal, where they are called rasbari.
KABRU’S PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Tumblr media
Kabru is one of several characters in Dungeon Meshi with clearly non-European features: he has brown skin and thick black/dark brown curly hair. He has almond-shaped eyes with long, dark lashes (fans like to joke that he’s wearing eyeliner). All of these are traits common to people from the Indian subcontinent. His blue eyes are not common for someone with his skin/hair color, but blue or green eyes are not unheard of in that region either.
Tumblr media
(Indian man with blue eyes)
Blue or light eyes are often a cause for discrimination, like what Kabru experienced as a child. More on this in a moment.
Kabru is 5’7” (170cm) tall, which is short for a Northern European man (180), tall for a Nepali man (162cm), but close to the average height of Indian men (177cm). He has a slender build, which is also common for Asian people in general, and South Asian men in particular.
Tumblr media
Compared to the European-looking tall-men in Dungeon Meshi (such as Laios, Falin, Delgal, Marcille’s father), Kabru’s facial features look more like the other Asian characters, such as Toshiro and his party.
CAN DARK-SKINNED PEOPLE HAVE BLUE EYES?
Yes. Light-colored eyes are very uncommon in parts of the world where most people have dark eyes, since dark eyes are a dominant trait in real-world human beings. That means that in order for two parents with dark eyes to have a child with light eyes, both parents need to have a recessive light-eyes gene (or for there to be an illness or genetic mutation), and that’s rare in populations that don’t have a lot of light-eyed people to begin with.
THEN WHY DO SO MANY DARK-SKINNED CHARACTERS HAVE BLUE EYES?
Anime and manga often give characters with dark skin light colored eyes instead of allowing them to have brown or black eyes, which is much more common in real life. It’s a hurtful design trope that makes many readers feel that their natural dark eyes are somehow ugly or inferior to blue eyes.
This trope is used over and over again by authors who want their characters to look “cool” and “exotic”, and for their eyes to be high-contrast to make it easier to show their emotions.
I don’t think this is what Ryoko Kui is doing in Dungeon Meshi.
UNREALISTIC HAIR AND EYE COLOR COMBOS IN ANIME
In a lot of anime/manga, blue eyes (regardless of skin color) don’t actually mean anything in the narrative, in the same way characters having green or pink hair doesn’t mean anything, the colors are non-diegetic, they don’t actually exist in the world, like the music that plays in the background without an on-screen source.
It’s an artistic shorthand to make characters visually stand out, instead of giving them all black hair and eyes like most real-life Japanese people… Which is what most anime/manga characters are meant to be: Japanese people.
Dungeon Meshi has a large cast of characters that are explicitly meant to be non-Japanese. We know this because there’s a group of characters that are Japanese, and they’re drawn differently from everyone else, they wear ethnically Japanese clothing, and have ethnically Japanese names.
Unlike other series, where eye and hair color don’t mean anything, Dungeon Meshi has no unrealistic skin, hair, or eye color combinations.
(Except for the elves, who seem to have different genetics than real world-humans. I’ll get into that another time.)
Ryoko Kui must be aware of the dark skin, blue-eyes design trope, because if she gave Kabru blue eyes just because she thought it looked good, surely she would have made some of the other Asian or dark-skinned characters have light eyes. Out of 9 Asian or dark-skinned tall-man characters, Kabru is the only one with blue eyes.
Kabru having light-colored eyes is central to his story, and Kui talks about it.
KABRU’S STORY AND WHY HIS BLUE EYES MATTER
Kabru’s father and his family tried to kill Kabru when he was born because he had blue eyes. Kabru’s mother ran away, and ended up raising Kabru by herself in Utaya. She didn’t try to return home to her own birth family, but instead struggled to raise a child completely on her own with no money or support, which implies she had no other options, due to the fear people of their region have for people with blue eyes.
This is a real thing that used to happen frequently in areas where most of the population has dark eyes, and it still happens to this day.
In a realistic story, this is logically what would happen to a character with dark skin born with blue eyes in a place like the Utaya region. It’s rare for manga or anime to show dark-skinned blue-eyed characters facing this.
WHAT IS THE “EVIL EYE”?
Tumblr media
The “evil eye” is a supernatural belief in a curse brought about by a person looking at you. The belief in the evil eye has existed since prehistory, as long as 5,000 years ago. It is estimated that around 40% of the modern world's population believes in the evil eye. This concept is most common across the Mediterranean, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia, areas where light-colored eyes are uncommon.
In areas where light-colored eyes are rare, people with green eyes, and especially blue eyes, are thought to bestow the curse, intentionally or unintentionally. Just one look from a blue-eyed person is often considered enough to inflict a curse.
One of the most famous and widespread talismans against the evil eye is the nazar, a glass amulet featuring concentric circles in dark blue, white, light blue and black. It’s supposed to “bounce” the curse away from the wearer.
HOW DOES THIS APPLY TO KABRU?
Tumblr media
Imagine Kabru growing up in a village surrounded by people wearing and hanging talismans that look like his eyes, because the people around him think blue eyes are evil. They call his mother a witch for birthing him, and a whore because she doesn’t have a husband. Imagine parents forbidding their children from playing with or even talking to Kabru. People crossing the street to get away from him, or chasing him away by throwing rocks.
I think the reason young Kabru was able to learn how to speak some kobold is likely because he was so heavily ostracized by the other tall-men around him, the only children he could occasionally interact with in Utaya were kobolds, who might not share the same cultural superstitions that the tall-man do.
This childhood trauma, combined with Kabru’s experience of the dungeon collapse in Utaya, and being raised by an elf that treated him more like a pet than a human being, set Kabru up as a character who has never had a home where he belongs. He has been an outsider from the instant he was born, and every place he has lived treats him as an “other.”
To his father’s family, he was a curse. To his mother, although she loved him, he was a burden. To the people of Utaya, he was a monster. To the elves, he’s a tall-man baby (no matter how old he gets) with funny looking eyes, to the people on Merini Island, he’s a foreigner from the West with elven ways and education.
CONCLUSION
I wanted to write this because I know some people will see Kabru in the anime for the first time today and think "Oh, another dark skinned blue eyed character! This is a bad character design that is evidence that the author is racist at worst or ignorant at best.” And I don’t think that’s a fair assessment of Ryoko Kui’s work in Dungeon Meshi.
This isn’t to say that Ryoko Kui has never done anything wrong, or that her work couldn’t be more inclusive, or that there’s no way in which she could improve.
But there are pages and pages of artwork she’s done that shows she cares about these issues, and I think it’s worth celebrating when someone makes that kind of effort with their artwork.
ANYWAY…
If you’ve read this far, you’re very strong hahaha. I hope you enjoyed this essay. I’ll be publishing more soon when I finish my Dungeon Meshi research on the names and cultures of all the characters. Wish me luck!
Persona failteacher yuri, comic #24: about her breaking point (part 3: pot, kettle) [AU masterpost]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i hate when it's one page off from an easily arrange-able number. egh
in case you're unfamiliar: in languages that use more graphemes than can feasibly fit on a keyboard layout, an IME (input method editor) software component is used. in our example--typing japanese on a generic laptop keyboard--the user would type in romaji or kana and the IME provides a dropdown menu to choose which kanji you want to insert. usually you press spacebar to go down the list and Enter to insert the selected kanji. so make sure to spell everything correctly and pick the right kanji at the end... 😤
there are also "thumb-shift" keyboards that are faster when writing in japanese, which are popular with people who write a lot for a living. i think they're very cool
^idk just in case you were curious what kind of frenzied keyboard whoopsies she's having in her Mad Bull haze . im just talking about keyboards and pretending kawakami isnt severely spiraling (and psyching herself up to force toriumi's hand) as we speak. it's fine
Wind Breaker Drama CD vol. 1 – Fuurin, Memories of a Summer (Part 1)
I received a translation request for the drama CD that came with the first anime DVD/Blu-ray, thank you! It's quite long so I'll be doing it in sections. You can listen to it here!
I'll just be doing the script, if there's anyone keen to time it with the audio feel free to hit me up! Video editor found!
Translation masterpost here!
Note: I took some liberties with translations this time to make it read more smoothly. As always, if there’s any mistakes, feel free to let me know!
Shorthand because some names are really long:
Sakura – Sakura
Nirei – Nirei
Suo – Suo
Sugishita – Sugi
Kiryuu – Kiryuu
Tsugeura – Tsuge
Hiiragi – Hii
Umemiya – Ume
Scene 1 – 0:09~3:14
Nirei: Wahhh!
Tsuge: The blazing sun! The sparkling waves!
Nirei: This is the feeling of summer!
Tsuge: Kuu, I’m getting excited!
Kiryuu: How are they so full of energy? I’m about to melt~
Suo: Ahaha! It’s definitely really hot today!
Hii: They’re probably the kind to use up all their energy in the morning. (t/n: not quite sure if I heard this right; feel free to let me know if this is wrong!
Kiryuu: Nirei-chan, those are trendy sunglasses!
Nirei: Ehehe, I like this style! Eh, I’m getting too carried away, aren’t I?
Suo: I think it’s fine to go for a different vibe from usual! Of course, the usual Nirei-kun is great too!
Nirei: Thank you very much! (t/n: WHAT A PURE GOOD BOY)
Sakura: *grunts of anguish*
Hiiragi: Sakura? You’ve been quiet since just now, what’s wrong?
Kiryuu: Oh yo~? (t/n: THIS IS SO CUTE THANK YOU TOSSHIIIII) Sakura-chan, your face is all red, are you ok?
Tsuge: Do you have heat stroke?! You can have some of my special sports drink to replenish your fluids!
Suo: It’s all good! Sakura-kun doesn’t have heat stroke!
Nirei or Tsuge (edit: Thanks @/pikiiro!): Really?
Suo: Yup! He probably just can’t take the surrounding atmosphere.
Nirei: Surrounding?
Kiryuu: Ooh~ (t/n: this is with a cute down intonation <3) There’s a couple there, there’s a couple there, ah, there’s also a couple here.
Nirei: Speaking of which, it seems that this beach is popular as a date spot for couples!
Suo: You’ve just become embarrassed, haven’t you Sakura-kun!
Sakura: DAAAAAAAAAA
Kiryuu: Sakura-chan is so cute~
Sakura: Shut up!
Hiiragi: You guys shut up.
Suo: Ah yes. Hiiragai-san, thank you for inviting us today!
Hiiragi: It’s fine, sorry for the short notice. Umemiya suddenly asked to invite you all.
Nirei: But it’s amazing isn’t it! He won first place in a lucky draw at the shopping street!
Hiiragi: That guy does tend to win these lucky draws… (t/n: Ume-chan can you gimme your luck for my ichiban kuji draws)
Tsuge: It even comes with a stay at the inn, I’m all fired up! (t/n: I can’t hear exactly what he said, it was either 2 or 3 nights’ stay. As for the inn itself, think of it as renting out a summer house where you can do whatever you want, it’s not a ryokan where there are people at your beck and call.)
Sakura: Anyway, where is that Umemiya?!
Suo: Now that you mention it, he hasn’t come yet.
Hiiragi: That guy, he’s late again… (t/n: rip Hiiragi’s stomach)
Ume: Hey everyone!
Nirei: Umemiya-san! Good morning!
Ume: Sorry about making everyone wait!
Sakura: You’re (“omae”) the one who invited everyone you shouldn’t be late!
Sugi: It’s not “omae”, it’s “Umemiya-san”!
Ume: Sugishita, don’t fight here ok? (t/n: he sounds like he’s talking to his pet dog LMAO)
Sakura: Also! Why is this guy here?!
Kiryuu: That’s true, Sugi-chan seems to hate stuff like this…
Ume: I invited him! Since it’s summer, let’s do stuff befitting our springtime of youth! (t/n: ok I took some liberties with this translation, but I think this sounds cooler)
Sugi: Thank you very much for inviting me.
Ume: I told you guys when you entered the school right? “This summer let’s all go to the beach!” Don’t you guys remember?
Sakura: He was serious about that?
Hiiragi: This guy is always serious.
Ume: I invited Kaji and gang too but they had plans today… next time it’ll be all of Fuurin!
Nirei: Isn’t that a tall order?
Ume: Anyway let’s get into the sea! Don’t you guys find it hot just standing around here?
Hiiragi: We were waiting for you!
Ume: Oh yeah, that’s right!
Hiiragi: *groans of acidic anguish*
Suo: Hiiragi-san, it’ll be nice if you won’t need to use your stomach medicine today ^^; (t/n: reading back on this it sounds as though he’s telling Hiiragi not to use his medicine. It’s closer to “man, I sure hope you won’t end up being forced to use your medicine today” – I hope this makes sense x_x)
Nirei: Ah, hahaha…
Scene 2 – 3:14~4:59
Hiiragi: I think we can leave our stuff here.
Nirei: Eh, is that so, Sakura-san?
Kiryuu: Hmm, what is it, what’s up?
Suo: It seems that this is Sakura-kun’s first time at the beach!
Tsuge: That’s rare!
Sakura: Is it that bad? It’s not like I had any reason to come anyway…
Ume: Isn’t that fine! Since it’s your first time, it means that you can start to have fun here from now on!
Sakura: *gulps of embarrassment*
Ume: Hehe, make memories together with us. Hey everyone, let’s go!
Sakura: Oi, don’t pull me!!!
Kiryuu: Ooh- They’ve left.
Hiiragi: *sighs* You guys go too.
Nirei: Hiiragi-san, aren’t you going?
Hiiragi: We need someone to watch our stuff.
Nirei: Then I’ll stay behind. We can’t leave Hiiragi-san to take care of our stuff!
Hiiragi: Don’t sweat on it, we can take turns later.
Kiryuu: Ah, I’ll be staying behind so it’s ok~ I’m not going into the sea~
Tsuge: You’re not, even though we came all the way here?
Kiryuu: Hmm, I don’t like getting all stick from the seawater, and I also haven’t cleared my login bonuses today~ (t/n: this man has his priorities right)
Nirei: As expected of Kiryuu-san, your resolve is firm!
Tsuge: He’s displaying his virtue here! (t/n: the literal translation was “I can smell his virtue” but it’s… kinda weird lmao)
Suo: I’ll be staying behind too.
Nirei: Suo-san, you too?
Hiiragi: By the way, you guys are wearing parkas on top of your rash guards, isn’t it hot? (t/n: think of a light beach jacket, not a literal winter parka)
Suo: I don’t want to get sunburned!
Tsuge: Oh, that’s a virtue too! That’s great, I want to learn more about everyone’s virtue!
Suo: Eh… aren’t you going into the sea? (t/n: I see what you did there Suo)
Tsuge: Oh yes! Come Nirei-kun, let’s go!
Nirei: Yes!
Hiiragi: For crying out loud… I’ll be leaving our stuff to you guys.
Suo: Of course! Please take care!
Kiryuu: Everyone has so much energy~
Suo: Yes, it does seem that way.
He Sighs, She Sighs...the Editor Also Sighs
In real life, people who constantly sigh soon get on our nerves. Same applies to fiction: readers don't like characters who sigh a lot.
One sigh is enough for the reader's subconscious to pick up the frustration/wimpiness of the character.
Breathing.
The same goes for taking deep breaths, shaky breaths, breathing out heavily, etc.
This get tedious fast, so use them wisely!
Wick's End Masterpost
Tumblr media
Set in a fantasy RPG, selfless soldier Glendale cheats death at the cost of living on with a curse. Now 6" tall, he quests with his personal servant Harry (a dog that has mysteriously turned human) and comrade Freya to find cures for their respective ailments.
▭|═══════ﺤ
A lighthearted fantasy adventure story that transforms its zany premise into a meaningful exploration of the burnout experience. Wick's End is SFW and for all audiences, with occasional themes of substance usage.
( Webcomic by @eightyuh - Professional inquiries: eightyuh @ gmail)
Pilot Chapter 1 (Canon remake of pilot - Coming next) Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 (Coming soon)
Please refer back to this original source of this post for updates!
Tumblr media
What was your inspiration to make this? The story is based off of a dream that I had.
When will the comic be updated? There are 10 planned chapters total, but it will only be updated when I feel inspired to do so.
Can I draw the characters? Yes! Just keep it SFW.
What kind of dog is Harry? He’s an Australian Shepard!
NOTICE:
You are welcome to submit Tumblr asks to the characters!
