I'm happy to see some representation for the Henry Doorly zoo! They have quite a few species of bats you can see in the Kingdom of the Night exhibit under the Desert Dome; I don't remember them all, but there are vampire bats, Egyptian flying foxes, and short-tailed fruit bats!

The Lied Jungle also has a fruit bat colony, though I'm unaware of which species it is.

Let me know if you figure it out, they don't list it on their website. I've added the species you mentioned that were missing, I appreciate you sharing that information.

I fucking love the native flora and fauna of where I've grown up. I really do. I love the familiar bugs and birds and trees and plants, I love the familiar birdsong in the mornings and I love the sound of Wood Pigeons in the evenings. But also it blows my mind that how i feel about all these mundane but beloved creatures is exactly how people all over the world feel about animals that are completely novel and unknown to me. There's people to whom hummingbirds are a completely normal sight! There's places where seeing bats, massive ones, happens every day! There's people who see these incredible animals all over the world who go "nice!" and just continue on their day the exact same way I do seeing a Magpie. And this isn't some lack of excitement, I get giddy over woodlice and I expect these people do the same but it's just... I don't know. It's just wild to think how different our experiences are in terms of what's regular or mundane.

Typing this out it seems very obvious lol. "Woah people in different places are used to different animals and plants" like of course, but you get what I mean, right? For me seeing a Red Fox, while a treat, is just another day. And there's people who feel the same about animals I have never seen and can only imagine seeing in real life!!! There's just something about it that's delightful to me. I don't know how to articulate what.
