Voodoo Brule Zin Ritual in New Orleans By Haitian Priest Edgar Louis.

Edgar Jean-Louis — a well known Haitian voodoo priest and well known artist. He was born in 1921, and shared a temple with the fellow artist and houngan, Sylva Joseph. He was one of the best Drapo (flag) artist and mentor of his time until he passed on 2010.

He would come down to New Orleans at the La Source Ancienne Ounfo to performed the Brule Zin Fire Ritual. It's used for Kanzo.

The Brule Zi Flame has always been a symbol of spirit. God's sends his grace down to us by the fiery angels bringing with them blessings with their wings of flame and smoke. Fire has stood as a symbol of spirit in many cultures. Water rites strengthened the community blesses, baptizing etc, while fire rituals is the spiritual insight and wisdom.

In Vodou, we use fire. We receive Divine illumination through the Ancestors. The brule zin is dedicated to the Ancestors, and via our interaction with it (passing our hands and feet through it, tending it, praying over it), we are both cleansed of the bad and made ready to receive Divine inspiration and guidance, as we prepare them to re-enter the world as Kanzo initiates.

The Brule Zin is a revelation for everyone who goes through it. It’s a test of faith as we go forth into the world, ready to serve the Lwa and Ancestors.
