Oooooh tell me more about Wolf’s fam 👀
Wolf comes from a very typical upperclass IceWing family - stuffy and emotionally repressed and kinda pearl-clutchy.
His parents (Shine and Fir) were an arranged marriage and - despite not being romantically involved - got along well enough as a couple, eventually having a son (Flash).
However, Shine was always a thrill-seeker and found her nuclear family extremely boring. She spent a lot of her time travelling as an ambassador for the IceWing Kingdom, which is how she eventually met Barren (Wolf’s bio dad).
Her infidelity only came to light after Wolf’s hatching, when his appearance made it incredibly clear he wasn’t Fir’s child - and at this point Shine was dead, having succumbed to injuries sustained in a hunting accident. The family was incredibly embarrassed once word spread that Shine - eldest daughter, future matriarch of the family - had broken her vow, and the mourning following her death was quickly replaced with gossip and jibes.
This left Wolf to grow up in the angry shadow of a parent he never even met - though part of him is relieved that his extended family’s dislike of him meant he wasn’t subject to their meddling like his brother was.
There’s more about Fir and Flash here.

“I was a little snake when my masters built walls and citadels to protect the hatching lands. Thank you for helping the old one see another heartbeat at the end of her days.”
“I don’t believe it happened,” Emmy pressed the bundle to her chest. The child in the tissues moved. It... she reached for the warmth, as if she felt the proximity of the scales of the dragon's body. Only the tail, which was already covered with keratinized scales, showed up. It won’t be long before they stretch out and get stronger, turning into spines or a fin.
Emlyonormu was relieved when she felt the beating of life in her hands. This burden was replaced by a new one, filled with anxiety about responsibility. And the awkwardness of some moments.
. . .
“There are children by nature, Emlyonormu from the Bronze Dragonflight. And there are children from the heart. You have the right to give this one her first name.”
The brood mother raised her cane in a trembling hand, as if blessing both Emmy and this child. The dragoness looked again at the fabrics under which the tiny creature was hiding. Heat was brewing within her. With every second, with every breath, the newborn absorbed the life of Azeroth.
Emlyonormu raised her palm and gently touched the bundle of fabrics with her clawed fingers. She made her decision.
“Eliot, she…”
“Yes, this happens.”
Tiny paws and a head appeared in the light. Hands and head. In the form of a mortal.
“I heard that sometimes they take on the guises of those who have been closest to them for a long time,” Eliot began to wail, stroking Emmy-Lee’s shoulder, but then looked at her with a stern look, “This is an unconscious step. But not evil.”
“But in the egg…”
“She was an ordinary dragon. Who knows how such a small portion of water from the Halls could have affected her. Really, Emmy, the child has just appeared, and you are already so strict with her!”
Emlyonormu pursed her lips, looking at the girl in her arms. Everything about her was mortal, but the scales and compaction of future horns covered everything human and elven, leaving no doubt. The child shrank and wrinkled her tiny nose. She was Green, and she was already having her first real dream.
“Well, what name will you give her?” the mother of the brood had been waiting for this day for so many years that she did not want to delay the most important thing.
“Fir,” Emlyonormu answered easily. She was almost sure that it was the girl herself who suggested this name to her, “For now she will be a little Fir.”

bunch of them 👍👍 info dump under the cut
Fir is Wolf’s dad (his name is a reference to the fact that Wolf’s name was Pine in 2018). He is a well-meaning guy but very much a product of the environment he was raised in (extremely uptight and competitive IceWing family). He raised Wolf as best he could but the toll of his wife’s death and infidelity (Wolf was born of an extramarital affair) lead to him becoming closed-off and prone to lying for convenience - a trait he accidentally taught to Wolf.
Flash is Wolf’s half-brother, (his name was Shard in 2018, a name that has since been adopted by the current IceWing king). Although they were known to fight, as kids Flash and Wolf had each other’s backs, being each other’s only sibling and confidant. They often bonded over their shared dislike of chores and conspired to prank the adults at fancy dinners. As a dragonet, Flash despised the stifling and cut-throat culture they were raised in, something Wolf was less privy to as the family’s black sheep. As adults their relationship soured a little as Flash’s intense ambition started bleeding into his relationships with his loved-ones.
Stygian is Haunted’s brother from the same clutch. He is almost her complete opposite - a powerful seer and mind-reader, but physically small and unable to fly. Stygian struggled socially for most of his youth, with peers and mentors alike finding him “confusing” and “difficult”. His one real friend was Haunted, who was the only dragon who afforded him the understanding and patience he deserved, despite being the only dragon in their community who couldn’t literally read his mind. He was abducted at the start of the story, and it’s Haunted’s sole quest to find him.
Hover (mentioned briefly in Leap of Faith) was Red Kite’s childhood best-friend/rival, and the dragon that took a chunk out of her ear. He was a deeply insecure kid and took it out on those around him; Red was the only dragon in their class that was unable to ignore his name-calling and as such they frequently got into whatever the dragon equivalent of fist-fights is. Their rivalry eventually mellowed into a (still fiercely competitive) friendship and the pair became thick as thieves throughout their later education. They lost touch as adults, Red still thinks of him from time to time.
Tenrec is a RainWing spy. They have physically altered themselves in order to blend in amongst other tribes, including removing their frill and parts of their ears. He rarely changes colour based on emotion due to being trained to maintain a “poker-face” when undercover. Current employer and deployment status is classified.

Fir, a young representative of the Green Dragonflight, is still a child by everyone's standards.
Since Fir has quite a lot of patches on her clothes, the first thing she learned at a slightly more conscious age was to sew. She began to mark on her clothes the most interesting elements that she had ever seen. So very soon the dragon runes appeared on the scarf, which she and Emmy had once seen on the remains of an ancient temple.
