Questions About Creating Your OCs || How did you choose their name? 

Aden:: I was trying to think of a name that would be properly Free Marcher when I first created him. I didn’t want to keep the default name Maxwell after all, so I idled for bit while trying to recall what we might have already heard. Recently ran across a post that had said that characters could have the same name, it’s not impossible, and I remembered that there was a character in DA2 by the name of Aden. Now, I don’t say it the same way. That Aden was more like “Ah-den” where I say Aden’s name more like one would say Aiden. Now what’s funny is we didn’t call him that to start. Instead we were joking that the sucker looked like Shephard from Mass Effect, so well...

Cypress & Aspen:: First thing about them you’ve got to know is that RWBY has a theme when naming characters. Their name has to bring to mind a color. The second thing to know is that the twins came later in our devised canon. Azalee was made first, and we started developing her brothers after. We settled on tree names for the brothers as to go with her own theme, and thus Willow, Aspen, Cypress and Douglas Fir ended up picked. Alder (their father) was the last one so far named. Aspen is supposed to evoke the pale gold in fall, Cypress was a dark evergreen. Now, Aspen still matches his color, but Cypress had become difficult and instead is a dark admiral blue. 

Halla: Her name is the default Lavellen name of Ellana. I didn’t think to change it. However she’s got the most amazing doe eyes, which started leading her to being nicknamed Halla, and I’ve built a story to go along with it. Her verse name, Pathfinder, is part of that

Riya:: Fakhriyya Asmer came from the same drive to make a RWBY color based name. I looked around for a while for a name that might suit the image I had for her (Fran from FFXII), and ended up settling on the last name Asmer, which is Nut Brown in Urdu? I then searched around for a first name to match up with that. Riya’s nickname was born from me needing an easier way to reference her for speaking and typing purposes! 

Armand:: Color me again, though his name was picked from a list of names listed under color referencing names. His references Gold, which suited because of his eyecolor. 

Zian:: I am a sucker for dragons, and when I finally settled on Zian’s semblance having a water theme to it, I remembered the connections between water and dragons in Chinese lore. I remembered from the books for Temeraire (Naomi Novik) that her dragon’s names were some three piece name with Lung somewhere in it (Basically one form of spelling the word dragon). Looked up a word for water (Shui). Then I looked for a popular strong male name to go with it. Zian is often equated to Honor. So he ended up Lung Shui Zian. He’s supposed to evoke the color blue.

NPC List

These are the people in Nate's life that he has known the longest, and who have managed to to earn his friendship and affection. He considers most of them family in some form or another, and they will get brought up a lot in conversation and possibly as side characters in threads. Anyone who knows Nate will know at least a bit about them. Nearly all of them have died at least once and been reborn, because I am big on reincarnation within the supernatural world.

Lung Shui Azalee (formerly Azalee Warren) A witch of some talent, she specializes in natural magics and supernatural creatures and occasionally offers her services as a consultant to the police when it becomes clear that there is an unnatural element to whatever case they are working. There is only a small group that know of their existence, and they are seen as a special tasks group that specializes in the weirder cases to the rest of the general populace. Outside of that, she runs a restaurant with her mate called Safe Harbor, an authentic Chinese location that caters to the supernatural. While humans are also welcome, there is just something about the place that sets them on edge, and so they rarely return. For the supernatural however, it is a place of neutral ground where everyone is welcome, and where everyone knows not to start any trouble.

Lung Shui Zian

An eastern bred dragon from China. He appears to the masses as a polite young man of Chinese decent with black hair and green eyes, but does still retain the ability to take on his draconic form whenever he is able to do so. With the modernization of the world, it's much harder to do so, but he has his ways. He is the reason no one starts trouble at Safe Harbor, because very few can or will stand up to an angry dragon in his own territory. Along with his mate, they have done their best to make their restaurant a safe space for anyone seeking it, and he will not tolerate anyone breaking that unspoken rule. He and Azalee are also the proud parents of three rambunctious dragonets, and woe be to anyone who threatens his family.

Fakhriyya Asmer

Known more commonly as Riya, this young woman is a forest nymph and one of the more recent friends added to Nate's life. She's a flirty, playful woman who can befriend just about anyone she meets without too much trouble. She has a need for nature, so living in the city is hard, but she's learned how to balance her needs to the best of her ability. She is what Nate likes to call a 'baby soul', or someone who has never been reincarnated before. With her zest for like, he looks forward to seeing where she goes.

Aren Omotunde

A Phoenix Nate met when he was only sixteen years old, Aren was born when another Phoenix accidentally had their burning day on a tree with Aren's nest within it. Such is the way new phoenix's are created, and such is how he came to be. Unsure how to handle him, Nate let him tag along for a time until it became clear that Aren needed to learn things that Nate couldn't teach him. Despite having to leave him behind at that point, they ran into each other quite often through out the years, and he is Nate's oldest and dearest friend. While phoenix's do die, they always come back, and this is the start of Aren's fourth life cycle.

David Neal-Warren

A half incubus who works as a Doctor. In spite of his unusual heritage, David has always had the desire to help people to the best of his abilities. Medicine became his focus, and he has become one of the few medical professionals called to handle cases involving non humans or those with interesting talents. Since he had a human mother, his effects on others are more easily controlled, and he isn't as strong in some of the other talents natural to his kind. While he does still need to feed off of sexual energy, he's found himself lucky enough to be married to a man who can keep up with his needs and then some.

Cypress Neal-Warren David's husband and one of Azalee's older brothers. Cypress is a knowledge spirit, one that takes on the shape of a giant owl as an alternate form to his human one. He has an insatiable need to learn, and is always seeking new and interesting information to add to his collection. Currently he is teaching medical school to graduate students. Cypress is also a very rare creature, with there only being one other of his kind that they know of.

(Nate's relationship status will vary depending on each of my writing partners and whether or not they wish to explore ship potential with him. If platonic friendships are more your thing, Nate will be involved with Cypress and David as his default relationship and this will be mentioned as a well known fact)
