Familial Hypercholesterolemia: Understanding the Genetic Cause and Effective Treatment
Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic disorder characterized by high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in the blood. It is caused by a mutation in the LDL receptor gene, which plays a crucial role in removing LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream. The LDL receptor gene mutation disrupts the normal functioning of the receptor, leading to impaired clearance of LDL…

Breakthrough Drug Achieves 65% Reduction in Genetic 'Bad Cholesterol'
For the first time, doctors may soon have a way to lower extremely high levels of a risky type of cholesterol known as lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a). This genetically-influenced cholesterol has long been untreatable, leaving many patients at heightened risk of heart disease. But thanks to a new breakthrough drug called muvalaplin, there is now hope for better controlling this “silent killer.” Lp(a) is…

I forget why, but I was on the Wikipedia page for polycystic ovarian syndrome, and I started researching hirsutism in women, and I learned the following things in this order:
there's a diagnostic criteria used to evaluate how hairy a woman is
This is important because being too hairy is a diagnostic criteria of most disorders that cause hyperandrogenism
Disorders that cause hyperandrogenism can be diagnosed by...measuring how hairy you are (this is the main and most important diagnostic criterion for PCOS)
Disorders that cause hyperandrogenism are important because they are correlated with obesity, infertility, and...being too hairy?
I think to myself, wait, what is a normal range for testosterone in women? I find this article...which set reference ranges for "normal" testosterone levels in women...EXCLUDING WOMEN WITH PCOS?
Quote: "Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is another notable condition in genetic (XX) females, which is characterized by excessive ovarian production of androgens. This condition is included for comparison with DSD, as the affected females with PCOS are genetic and phenotypic females. The elevated levels of testosterone in these females can lead to hyperandrogenism, a clinical disorder characterized variably by hirsutism, acne, male-pattern balding, metabolic disturbances, impaired ovulation and infertility. PCOS is a common condition, affecting 7%-10% of premenopausal women."
So: the study claims to demonstrate a clear distinction between the normal range of hormone levels in "Healthy" men and "healthy" women...with "healthy" being defined in the study as...having hormones within the "normal" range.......................
So I researched what the clinically established "normal" range for testosterone in women is
THERE ISN'T ONE????
Quote from the above article: "Several different approaches have been used to define endocrine disorders. The statistical approach establishes the lower and the upper limits of hormone concentrations solely on the basis of the statistical distribution of hormone levels in a healthy reference population. As an illustration, hypo- and hypercalcemia have been defined on the basis of the statistical distribution of serum calcium concentrations. Using this approach, androgen deficiency could be defined as the occurrence of serum testosterone levels that are below the 97.5th percentile of testosterone levels in healthy population of young men. A second approach is to use a threshold hormone concentration below or above which there is high risk of developing adverse health outcomes. This approach has been used to define osteoporosis and hypercholesterolemia. However, we do not know with certainty the thresholds of testosterone levels which are associated with adverse health outcomes."
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
It's batshit crazy to make a diagnostic criteria for medical disorders by placing arbitrary cutoffs within 2-5% of either end of a statistical distribution. What the actual fuck?
"The results came back, you have Statistical Outlier Disease." "What treatments are available?" "Well, first, we recommend dietary change. You should probably stop eating so many spiders."
Another article which attempted to do this
Quote: "Subjects with signs of hirsutism or with a personal history of diabetes or hypertension, or a family history of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) were excluded."
"We're going to figure out the typical range of testosterone levels that occur in women! First, we're going to exclude all the women that are too hairy from the study. I am very good at science."
Anyway I got off topic but there are apparently race-specific diagnostic tools for "hirsutism." That's kinda weird on its own but when I looked more into this in relation to race I found this article that straight-up uses the term "mongoloid"

What Causes High cholesterol ?
The word "high cholesterol" refers to a growth in blood cholesterol levels, which mainly increases the chance of acquiring serious conditions like heart disease and stroke later on. One kind of lipid that the body releases naturally by the liver is cholesterol, which is a waxy, fat-like material. Its synthesis is seriously needed for the synthesis of several hormones, vitamin D, and the outer layer of cells. The liver makes cholesterol, which is mostly composed of fat and protein, to transport cholesterol. They are in charge of transporting triglycerides, another kind of fat, and cholesterol through the circulation. Hyperlipidemia or hypercholesterolemia are other terms for high cholesterol.
The Main Causes of High Cholesterol
Tumblr media
1. Unhealthy Diet: It includes high carbohydrates, sugar, red meat, high-fat, deep-fried and processed foods, bakery items, etc. Increase your  cholesterol levels.
An unhealthy diet heavy in trans and saturated fats is one of the main causes of high levels of cholesterol. Among the foods that might increase cholesterol are:
The food  is deep-fried.
Hot dogs, sausage, meat, and fatty portions of red meat.
Processed foods, such as white biscuits and bread.
Dairy foods high in fat, such as cheese, milk, and buttermilk.
Baked products, such as cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and cakes.
2. Overweight: The extra fat in your body can be responsible for  heart disease in the future.
3. Lack of physical activity: Due to Lack of physical activity puts you at risk of gaining weight and having more fat in your body  than muscle. Physical workout helps  improve your good cholesterol.
4. Age: This is not as much in your control, however in some cases, irrespective of age or gender, you might have high cholesterol levels.
5. Hereditary: Well, if it runs in the family, don’t be surprised if you suffer from high blood cholesterol.
6. Alcohol: If you are indulging in too much alcohol then it increases your cholesterol level and increases the possibility of heart disease.
Consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice based on your specific health condition.
Wishing you a swift recovery.

hi!!! I hope your holiday was okay and that you’re doing well :)
a lot of things happened actually????????? gonna rant real quick, sorry
I got invited to spend Christmas with a bfish friend and their family!!
I thought they invited me as a joke
it was not a joke
I agreed, but then panicked about ruining Christmas for like. weeks
on the day I was supposed to leave, it snowed quite a bit in the city I'm currently in, which is not a city that is prepared for snow like this
there was a possibility I wasn't going to make it to the airport, which SUCKED because I had already packed and put all the mental energy into going
I made it to the airport BUT i couldn't get ahold of the bfish friend, who still thought I couldn't make it so I wasn't sure if they still wanted me there
my first flight got delayed by like FOUR HOURS and was going to take off AFTER my connecting flight left
I changed both my first and second flight (for free since the airline knew I would miss the second flight due to the delay)
I got on my new first flight, only to find out (once I was on it) that the cabin was not airtight and we had to wait for maintenance
this caused me to miss my new second flight anyway
at this point there was a STRONG possibility that I was not going to be able to find a flight there after all, but unfortunately I was literally stuck in Washington, D.C. at this point as my first flight had already landed
I did finally manage to contact the friend, who confirmed that they still wanted me there
I was on hold with the airline and also in line physically trying to ask them to change my flight again (despite the fact that I had already changed it once, so normally they wouldn't let me)
I was fully prepared to spend Christmas for four days by myself in D.C. for a bit lol
I found a connecting flight!!! After 20 hours of travel for a normally 2 hour flight, I made it and only ruined Christmas a little I think :)
on my flight BACK, the plane got delayed because we were missing a whole ass part of the plane???
my layover after that flight was in D.C. again so honestly at this point I was like. the universe is telling me to stay in D.C. like wtf
I almost missed by connecting flight on the way back, BUT i did NOT miss it
I made it back home!!!!!!!!!
... when the plane landed I got a Facebook message from a bio-sibling whom I've never really spoken to (we were adopted by different people) saying that I need to test for Familial Hypercholesterolemia because she was just diagnosed and is a first degree relative to me even though we've never talked 🙃
Anyway how did y'all's holidays go
