So the OGs did all they could and beat Atlanta last Saturday, 36-28, though it didn't look too promising when they went down 5-21 at one point in the first half. But unfortunately things didn't quite work out as we hoped in New York. Although Utah won the game, they allowed NY to score 4 tries so they got the bonus point they needed to get the home game in the conference decider.
At least the club are laying on a coach to take fans up there (and importantly, given the fact it's on Sunday evening, back again!) though we did have a bit of a mix-up as to which of us was going to buy the tickets!
Monday was the Juneteenth holiday, so a day off work…and also my wife's birthday, so we went out to a restaurant down in the Waterfront that we've been meaning to go to ever since we moved here, Fiola Mare. The food was rather good, but it was as expensive as we had feared it would be so I doubt we'll be rushing back there too soon.
The weather has been a bit rubbish this week, pretty much raining most of the week, with more forecast over the next several days. It looks like it will be sunny on Sunday in DC…but not in the Big Apple so we might need rain ponchos for the game unfortunately.
The fun this week is the return of some neighbours after a year in San Francisco - when the guys dropped off the "pods" with their furniture and stuff in, they left one of them at an angle, sticking out into the road, narrowing it so that buses and trucks are unable to get past! A bus was stuck there for a few hours yesterday afternoon. I have no idea why the driver didn't just back it up, which is obviously what they ended up doing. Hopefully they will be able to empty the "pod" and have it removed later today, though quite why the numpty who dropped it off thought it was ok to leave it where they did is mind-boggling!

I'm so glad you're doing the Paul week! What about: “You must be freezing! Here, take this.”?
14. “You must be freezing! Here, take this.”
Tumblr media
It’s cold in Fiola Mare, the small restaurant that sits just on the Potomac. So cold, in fact, that goosebumps have begun to form along your arms, and Paul can even feel the chill beneath his tweed jacket and layers of clothing. But you, you’ve chosen nothing more than a navy popover cocktail dress, shoulders and collarbones exposed to the chilled air.
Paul notes the slight way that you shiver, doing your best to play it off as if there’s no chill at all. But he is, if nothing else, a gentleman, and he cannot allow you to sit there so uncomfortably, even despite your best efforts to show otherwise.
“You must be freezing,” he says, making a show of it, his own shoulders giving a slight shiver. He shrugs off his jacket then, and you open your mouth to protest, but he’s already up and out of his chair, jacket in hand. “Here,” he starts, already beginning to drape the jacket around your shoulders, “take this.”
The garment envelopes you in its sheer size, wrapping you up in its warmth that still lingers from his body heat. Thanking him, you slip your arms into the sleeves of the jacket and hug it closer to yourself, and in doing so, you’re able to catch the faintest hints of patchouli. It’s a lovely, inviting scent, one that makes you want to bury your nose into the fabric and breathe the scent of him in. But you refrain.
He likes it, he decides when he rounds the table again to take his seat; likes seeing you wrapped up in his jacket, likes knowing that he’d been able to give you a reprieve from the cold air that circulates here in the restaurant. But even more so, he likes knowing that this simple gesture, this jacket, acts as if some sort of sign that says you're his.

WORLD LEADERS LAUGH AT TRUMP
When Trump was running for President, he frequently said the U.S. needed a President who was not a joke in the eyes of the world: “We need a President who isn’t a laughing stock to the entire world. We need a truly great leader, a genius at strategy and winning.”
World leaders laughed at Trump yesterday. Openly and publicly as he addressed them at the United Nations.
Laughter occurred two times.
First, when Trump said, “In less than 2 years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.”
The laugh from all followed.
The second time involved the German delegation openly laughing when Trump claimed Germany was becoming “totally dependent on Russian energy.”
The man is a buffoon. He makes a mockery not only of our Nation, but each and every one of us. I am sure the thought of other peoples is….. What has happened to the American people?
Nothing like throwing gasoline on a fire. Trump did it with China.
The U.S. and China are in a major trade war. The trade war of all trade wars. To further aggravate China and let them know he was no pussy, Trump authorized a $330 million military sale to Taiwan.
China’s ire obvious. For the time, China merely said that the action jeopardizes Sino-U.S. cooperation.
I fear if the trade war continues tit for tat, what began as a trade war will turn into a military one. You can only push some one or nation around so long.
Our government is degenerating. The Presidency with Trump. Our Congress as it behaves. The Kavanaugh war a perfect example. The Senate is not distinguishing itself.
Civility is a dying art. It is like respect. If you do not give respect, you should not expect it in return.
Most in this country feel they are constantly being defecated upon. By the “elite.” Understandably so. Since the 1980’s, things have gotten decidedly better for important people and worse for everyone else.
Ted Cruz and his wife Heidi were having dinner at the expensive Fiola Restaurant in Washington. A group approached and began heckling the Senator and wanting to know his position on Kavanaugh.
Though I agree with the hecklers, I would not confront the Senator in the fashion they did. Not my way. On the other hand, these people have a right to disturb the Senator as they did. A restaurant interruption is public approbation in a small way. The elite should not be immune from the consequences of their behavior.
The confrontation small. However to be expected by the affluent these days. A people being jerked around will respond in various ways.
I have 2 observations.
First, what was Cruz doing in Washington? He was not required in Washington till thursday for the Kavanaugh hearing. He is in a tight race in Texas for his Senate seat. Democrat Beto O’Rourke is running a neck and neck race against him.
Cruz must be overly confident.
Fiola is one of Washington’s most expensive restaurants. The menu pre-fix. $90-$145. Wine prices off the wall. Not a dinner for two that most can afford.
An Irma update.
Irma occurred more than a year ago. Woeful stories continue to pop up.
A Big Coppitt family lived in a home erected to withstand a category 5 hurricane. Strongest concrete, hurricane proof doors and windows. The family opted to ride out Irma in their home.
The Blue Paper recently revealed a story untold. The category 5 home did not hold up. Irma came into the house.
The family reported the house began to shake. A crash was heard in the children’s bedroom. Two young children were in the bedroom with the door closed.
The door flew open. The young son came out with blood matting his blond hair. His injury required 10-12 stitches. The daughter at first could not be located. Later found unharmed.
The hurricane was in the bedroom. A window and part of a wall gone.
My podcast Tuesday Talk with Key West Lou last night. First talking show I have done in several days. My bronchial condition made it difficult to speak.
I spent half the show talking about David Wolkowsky. My friend, Key West’s friend, who died in his sleep sunday night at 99 years of age. A rare individual.
Enjoy your day!

JW Marriott Venice
The JW Marriott Venice is a beautiful 40 acre property southeast of Venice that was once used as a pulmonary hospital. The concierge informed me that the air was believe to speed up recovery as it was breezier than the hot and humid city center of Venice. The hospital later fell into disrepair in the 90s later to be given back to the city to eventually be sold to Marriott who did a beautiful job transforming the property. Fast-forward to 2015 and you are transported to a world all on its own.
The main building of the property has remnants of the pulmonary hospital's structure but with the J.W. Marriott's signature touch. Marriott has meticulously renovated the building and island to cater to guests and families of all ages. The grounds are well groomed and thoughtfully planned. There is a large amount of green space, walking paths, and even gardens for the chefs of the Michelin star restaurant, Fiola at Dopolavoro Venezia, to pick fresh ingredients from.
In the main building there is a coffee shop, restaurant, and a few boutiques. Additionally, on the rooftop there is a restaurant, lounge, pool bar, and infinity pool that overlooks the property and Venice. The pool is area is for adults only and managed by staff that put mattress-like covers on the beach chairs which I thought was a welcomed touch. In addition to the rooftop pool there is also a separate, larger and family friendly pool on the southern end of the property. The family friendly pool is surrounded by green space, a bar, and when I was there, an inflatable movie screen.
There are four different room types. One is the (BLANK) rooms in the main building, the Rezidenzia rooms on the northwestern part of the property, the (BLANK) rooms in the center of the island where there are two concierge desks are, the (BLANK) rooms which are two-story rooms on the furthest west part of the island with views out west.
Spa:
The property has a nice and albeit quaint spa on the northwestern part of the grounds next to the Rezidenzia rooms. Upon entry you are greeted by reception and a well appointed area to buy spa products. Beyond reception there is a small lounging area with snacks, water, champagne, and desserts laid out for spa guests. If you venture past the lounge area you have to step over a poorly placed foot washing station. To which you pass a large sauna with seating and chaise-like lounges before you make it to the indoor pool area. The indoor pool area features chairs along the pool. To the right are a few showers, large steam room, and if you round the corner you find a smaller and hotter Finnish sauna with salt walls and another foot washing station.
The staff will lead you to the accommodations downstairs which are fully equipped locker rooms with showers, bathrooms, and bathing suit dryers. These facilities were pleasant and clean. The lockers have the feature to input a programmable code which is nice in order to not have a key to carry around.
The facility is equipped with a symmetrical indoor/outdoor pool that has partially submerged doors to close off the access to each. The pool makes a T with the top of the T parallel to the lagoon. Along the pool are buttons that operate various jets and spouts within the pool. These buttons are illuminated and provide different experiences depending upon where you are in the pool. The two spouts outdoor provide a very lovely neck and back massage when activated as they are very strong.
Outdoor along the lagoon are lounge chairs and a seating area that face Venice. Perfect to relax under the sun or watch the sunset in the evening. The one thing that I found missing was the lack of any sort of hot tub or polar plunges. I suppose that since this property is only open during (INSERT WHEN OPEN May-November??) the warmer months that this was not taken to consideration. I did the night-spa option (3 hours of spa access in the evening starting at 8:15) in late July and while it was tolerable, if the pool was heated or there was a hot tub to enjoy it would have really made the experience lovely. Fortunately my room had a bath tub with provided JW Marriott branded lavender bath salts that I used when I returned to my room.
I think the spa would be best enjoyed during morning or day time to really appreciate all of the amenities and alternate between laying outside, plunging in the pool, and doing the sauna and steam room rotations. Fortunately my room had a private plunge pool right across the small dock from the spa with the same view and shaded by a big beautiful tree so I was able to enjoy the pool, view, and laying out rotation during the late afternoon.
Room:
The room that I had was in the Residenzia section of the property. These properties are a collection on the north western section of the island, 5 with plunge pools facing Venice and 6 with their own private terraces facing the southeast.
Upon arrival I was greeted with the most delicious fresh salted focaccia loaf with olive oil made with olives from the island, JW Venice branded woven tote, and a thank you not for being a Bonvoy Ambassador Member.
The room was very stylish and well appointed with a very comfortable king sized bed, Illy espresso machine, bottles of water, well stocked mini fridge, robes, and slippers. The bathroom was equally as fantastic with a waterfall shower, towel heater, gigantic tub (that comfortably fit me, a 6'5 man), toilet and bidet, and large counter space with an anti-fog mirror and great lighting.
The real splendor of this particular Rezidensia room is that the room had a view of Venice and the venetian canals with its own private plunge pool. In addition to the spectacular view and pool there were with two sunbeds and an umbrella, a yard with two chairs next and a table, and a hanging egg chair in the corner on water's edge. The pool and was shaded by a beautiful tree t.  The plunge pool had a button that brought the stagnant water to a roar, and added an lovely ambiance amongst the insects chirping in the tree. The setting is truly serene and similar to the experience you find directly across the canal in the spa.
How to get to the JW Marriott Venice
Arrival by Train:
Option 1:
(Recommended) Private Water Taxi - 25 minutes ($90 + possible $10 Euro)
If you are arriving by train chances are you are wanting to get to the hotel to check-in and unwind ASAP. Upon exiting the station you will see many men in vests advertising taxis. These men are "carters" that are not affiliated with any particular taxis and will take your luggage on a cart to the taxi station and help you flag down a taxi. This comes at a cost, however, and for the 500 foot walk from the train station to the taxi station it will cost you $10 Euro (eyeroll).
To avoid these carters and find a taxi as soon as you exit the train station and you are facing the canal in front of you, Gran Canal. Head left (northeast) along the canal and you will see a few taxis docked perpendicular to the walkway. Ask for a taxi to the JW Marriott. It should cost around $90 Euro. If you are having trouble or are getting lost, the carters will help you flag one down, a small price ($10) to pay for convenience.
Note: The hotel cannot book this for you ahead of time. I had no issue finding one and they are always coming and going in this area so you should not have a hard time finding one of these.
Option 2:
Public Water Taxi to San Marco Square with transfer to JW Marriott - 1 hour 25 minutes ($16 Euro)
First you will have to buy a ticket for the public water taxis (INSERT LINK) these taxis navigate the canals. Check with the local ticket office for the route to San Marco (St Mark's Square). The t
Arrival by Plane:
Option 1:
Private Water Taxi - 35 Minutes ($150 Euro)
Your most expensive and quickest bet. I believe the hotel can arrange this ahead of time.
Option 2:
Public Water Taxi to San Marco (St. Mark's Square) - 1 hour and a half- 2 hours ($16 Euro)
There is a public water taxi service that takes you into Venice. Indicate that you want to go to San Marco (St. Mark's Square) and they will take you where you need to go. You will then have to walk towards the west along the canal until you come to an area west of the square that is lined with stands selling tourist merchandise outside of the gardens of the (INSERT WHAT BUILDING GARDENS THAT IS). Head towards the dock with the large blue sign with white lettering that says SAN MARCO. This is the dock where the JW Marriott shuttle service picks up and drops off from every half hour (INSERT FROM WHEN) until midnight.
How to leave the JW Marriott Venice
There is a branded JW Marriott Venice shuttle that comes and goes from the island to San Marco square every half hour. Alternatively you can message or arrange with the concierge to book you any private water taxis to leave the island in order to reach your destination. However, it is hard to pre-plan water taxis to arrive to the island and you can find them easily.
If you are arriving by water taxi the experience really begins upon entry. You are greeted with a spectacular approach to the private docks where you are received by staff to help you off of the boat and take care of your luggage. The staff then carted me by golf car to the (INSERT WHATEVER BUILDING) building for check-in as this building was right across from my structure that my room was in. I was assisted by an absolutely fantastic concierge, Riccardo who went above and beyond in explaining everything that the property had to offer. He answered any questions I had and went out of his way to check on services and amenities available to make my stay extraordinary.
If not, you will be arriving by the J.W. Marriott branded boat from San Marco (St Mark's Square) which is equally as lovely of an experience albeit without the grand entry.
I always seem to find that J.W. Marriott properites are conscientious of the providing accommodations for affluent families seeking hassle-free accommodations for their vacation. I think this property hits exactly that. Overall, I found the J.W. Marriott Venice to be a refreshing and luxurious reprieve from the crowds and bustle of Venice. A great property for anyone from couples, to young families, to the solo traveler.

Private Party Restaurants – An Insight
Best private party restaurants  to say the least. We tried several of the very best restaurants in New York and came away impressed. The service was excellent, the food was good, but the atmosphere was great. The staff at this establishment really went above and beyond for our party. From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by the employees, which made the entire experience enjoyable. They took care of our party from the time we walked in until they called our table to be served. From our experience, many of the private room restaurants offer a lot more than just burgers and fries. For birthday parties, family reunions, or any other celebration, they can add much needed food to the event while also setting the tone for whatever's to come. A perfect example of this would be the popular "4 hour ago restaurants".Unlike most rooftop restaurants, the private room restaurant offers not just a meal but also cocktails and wine. The prices are usually more than you would pay at a bar, and depending on what time you arrive, you can get unlimited drinks and dinner as well. The drinks are usually priced by the hour. With four hours in the building, you should have ample opportunity to try all of the different cocktails and have a fantastic time. You may want to check out restaurants with meeting space for more.
Tumblr media
Private lounge restaurants are very popular. This is probably because they offer such a unique combination of factors. They are high-end, intimate, usually located in high-rise buildings, and have unlimited options for food and drinks. The rooftop lounge bar is a common hangout for celebrities, politicians, and members of the media. If you're in the mood for a free press drink or a cocktail after working a long day, then this is where you want to be!These restaurants allow their diners to relax while enjoying an exquisite view  has literally been teeming with these wonderful dining establishments for quite some time now. In fact, many of them have opened over the last decade and more are slated to open soon. If you're looking for the best restaurants in New York that offer gourmet dining, then this article was written with you in mind.
Since we are going to break down the top five dining restaurants according to your preference, we will start with a warning: Many of these restaurants may make you feel guilty when you consume too much, or take too much too often. This is because the rules for private dining restaurants are rather lax. One of the best things about these restaurants is that they often have very generous portions, and this is often the case even when prices are a bit high. If you like the idea of having a large dinner with a lot of food, then you can relax, because there are dozens of these restaurants to choose from.If you would prefer to have an expensive and elaborate meal, then you should check out the fine dining restaurants around Times Square. This is also one of the hottest private dining rooms in Manhattan. You might want to save money if you plan on having a high-end dinner, because you're going to pay a lot more for it. The secret is to plan early, and this sentence gives you a few great options for places to eat.
It might sound weird to say that brunch is one of the best private dining rooms, but this is actually a very accurate statement. You can enjoy brunch at any time of the day, because brunch restaurants typically open early morning, which is around 6 a.m. If you do not want to spend a lot of time in the comfort of your own home, or if you are very busy, then you might want to consider a late brunch meal. This will allow you to eat at home before heading off to work in the morning. It is difficult to find a private restaurant in Manhattan that offers birthday parties. You can, however, enjoy some great food and drinks at affordable prices if you plan on having a birthday party in the city. The best restaurants that offer birthday parties include Burt's Bees, Fiola, Harry's and Wolfgang Puck's, and much more. These restaurants are located all over Manhattan, and you are never going to have to worry about where you are going to eat. The restaurants are separated into different rooms and they serve different types of food, so you can always find something to eat. Finally, if you want to eat in private rooms, then head to the hottest spots in Times Square. There are tons of awesome restaurants here, and it is a great place to enjoy an amazing birthday party with friends and family. This is also a great place to grab a $2 slice of pizza, or a $4 beer after a long day at work. You can even grab an incredible cheeseburger! The restaurants are ranked by people like Marc Jacobs, who visits the city often for dining and shopping.

President Joe Biden appeared to violate the citywide mask mandate in Washington, DC, over the weekend. In a video posted to social media, the mask-free president and first lady Jill Biden were shown walking through high-priced D.C. Italian restaurant Fiola Mare on Saturday evening as the fully-masked Secret Service escorted them out. The current D.C. health guidelines mandate that both vaccinated and unvaccinated citizens wear masks at indoor venues. “This includes any business or establishment open to members of the public (including but not limited to: grocery stores, restaurants and bars (when not eating or drinking), places of worship, gyms, office buildings, libraries, indoor entertainment venues, and common areas of apartment or condominium complexes),” D.C. health guidelines explain. Beyond the city, Fiola Mare said the restaurant would be enforcing the city’s mask mandate on its website. “Per CDC guidance and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser’s executive order, all individuals over age 2 are required to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Masks must be always worn while in our restaurants, except while eating and drinking. Thank you for understanding,” the restaurant says. According to the Daily Mail, the Bidens had “earlier attended church at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown,” and the couple was celebrating “‘Sweetest Day’ – a holiday celebrated in the Midwest and Florida to celebrate romantic deeds and expressions.” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser received criticism this past August when she violated her city’s own mask mandate while attending a wedding reception. https://www.instagram.com/p/CVJ1U8Lrhixq5bST59kwoccU1Yl0op4zXC1cMI0/?utm_medium=tumblr
