I feel as if König is allergic to peanuts and true oranges specifically
Peanuts make him swell up and fall to the ground like a lead balloon because he loses his ability to breathe while true oranges make him nauseous with cramps so horrific that he is very close to feeling what we feel when we get periods
But he is perfectly fine with things like pistachios and almonds or clementines and tangerines to the point he eats them daily. Due to him biting his nails to shreds from his anxiety you have to help him with the peels as he struggles to get his nails in while with pistachios he just squeezes them between his fingers to break the shell. Nine times out of ten when you bring a fresh five kilogram bag of pistachios home because you wanted to make some pistachio treats for him you will find him stuffing them into his mouth like a squirrel at ungodly hours of the night until two thirds of the bag is gone
He absolutely adores pistachio ice cream. He does not care if he is lactose intolerant he will take a pill to help him or he will endure the hours of cramps. He probably enjoys the strawberry and pistachio ice cream the most, the one that has strawberry chunks, pistachio bits, white chocolate, and biscuit crumble in it with honey glazed on top (it is the best flavour of ice cream and you can fight me on it) with Oreo cookies and cream being his second favourite
ozzie, you're so right !! i think it's peanuts specifically, although he's desperate for a taste of peanut butter, and can't help but drool at the sight of chocolate and peanut mixed together. he'll die for a bite, quite literally, but you have to give him his epipen, or drag him away from the kitchen.
könig has a big appetite, and a huge sweet tooth. he can't resist strawberry flavoured desserts, stuffing it into his mouth and hiding away, embarrassed as he has his cheeks stuffed full, like a squirrel almost... 🐿️
if you buy pistachio ice-cream, it will be gone the next morning... or, you'll find a half empty tub in the freezer, könig licking his lips, with his hand deep in a bag of pistachios. i love salted cashews, i think he'd love them too, they wouldn't last very long after being bought...
the chunks in the strawberry are delicious to könig, but i absolutely despise them! too chunky, i would rather be sick... with oranges, the smell makes me nauseous, it's such a prominent and noticeable smell and i'd have to cover my nose while peeling it for könig. one fruit, i believe könig would hate (that i also happen to hate) is bananas. the texture? too mushy... taste? it's indescribable, i can't... and the bruises on them? absolutely disgusting.
könig can be judgemental accidentally, and he will glare at the reader for eating mint chocolate chip...
könig bites his ice-cream, and i'm getting chills at the thought of it. he'll do it purposely to fuck with you (unless you're also evil, and bite your ice-cream... my teeth couldn't 😮‍💨)
könig would love cucumber, but hate brussel sprouts. it's not that he's picky – he isn't whatsoever – but sees no appeal in brussel sprouts! me personally? i'm the opposite, cucumbers are disgusting, you won't change my mind!!!
i wouldn't be surprised if könig liked bubblegum ice-cream – and if you like it, i... have no words.. 😣

Nolofinwëan caffeine habits
Fingolfin: freshly ground quality beans in an ornate french press every morning with homemade cashew milk, no sugar. Only buys coffee out when someone else invites him, then usually orders a cappuccino because it’s what Finwë drank. Pays for the other person, tips well.
Fingon: six cans of cola every day. Laughs every time Maedhros tries to suggest this is a bad habit. When he goes out for coffee, he orders fresh-squeezed orange juice or something that no one even realised was on the menu. Always orders a couple snacks and insists on sharing. Tips a normal amount but brings the staff random gifts like boxes of chocolate.
Turgon: Four shots of espresso from the same place every morning at 7:10am. The staff have it waiting for him, he breezes in, says “good morning”, pays and tips, leaves. If he’s had a really long night he’ll add sugar, otherwise none. Often buys a few treats to go (they’re for Elenwë, Aredhel, and/or Idril; after Eärendil is born he buys a cake pop every single day).
Aredhel: depends on the day, but enjoys treating herself to a large mocha with whipped cream. Seems to “deserve a treat” most days. Continuously drinks yerba mate on journeys (from a thermos in cold climates, iced when not).
Argon: Monster energy drinks.
Idril: Oat milk latte (thanks @swanmaids). No dietary reason, just likes the flavour. Rarely gets it to stay, but takes about 15-20 minutes to leave because she’s making the rounds catching up with staff and customers. Keeps saying, “I better get going!” and doesn’t. Enjoys a cup of tea with milk and the pastry Turgon brought her in the afternoons.
Maeglin: says he doesn’t consume caffeine but eats chocolate covered coffee beans like popcorn when he’s trying to get a project done. When forced to go out he orders mint tea and lets it go cold. Pays for the other person but does not tip.
Eärendil: at sea he drinks super sweet instant coffee that is somehow foamy despite being from a packet. When in Sirion, orders authentic chai from a stand in the town square mostly because Elwing likes it and the guy who makes it laughs at his jokes. When shipbuilding, drinks from the barely-functional coffee maker Círdan has had since the Great Journey.

Hackle-lo and Scuttle Curry
One of the Telvanni Peninsula's most famous dishes, this simple, mild curry of hackle-lo and firm scuttle is delightfully rich and flavourful, yet simultaneously mild and balanced. Serve with wickwheat flatbread or steamed saltrice. Suitable for vegetarians! For a vegan version, replace paneer with tofu, and butter with coconut oil.
You will need:
225g paneer, cut into generous cubes (Indian cottage cheese CANNOT be substituted with regular cottage cheese! If you can't find paneer, use tofu or fresh mozzarella)
125g baby spinach
2 onions, finely diced
2 tbsp concentrated tomato purée
3 tbsp unsalted, unroasted cashews
1 tsp ginger paste
5 cloves garlic, minced
2-3 green chilis, sliced (like finger chilis or even fresh jalapeños), optional if you prefer it mild
1/2 tsp garam masala
2 cloves
2 cardamom pods, crushed lightly
1 tsp cumin
1 tbsp cinnamon
2 tbsp sugar
175ml water
2 tbsp butter
Coconut oil or vegetable oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
Cream, to serve (optional)
Method:
Combine the cloves, cardamom, cumin, and cinnamon in a pot, and gently cook on low heat with the butter and 1 tbsp coconut oil to release the aroma.
Toss in half the onions and fry until golden brown. Add the ginger paste and minced garlic, and continue to fry until they release their aroma. Add the tomato purée, salt and pepper, sugar, and garam masala. Continue stirring until well combined, then remove from heat, add the water, and purée until smooth with a blender or immersion blender. Set aside.
In a wok or large pot, fry the rest of the onions and chilis until glossy and aromatic. Add the spinach, and gently stir fry until the spinach has wilted and released most of its water. The spinach should still be green and not overcooked.
Transfer to a blender or use an immersion blender once again. Add the cashews. Purée until smooth and transfer to a bowl.
Put the tomato purée mix back on the heat and bring to a gentle bubble, then immediately remove from the heat and add the spinach purée. Stir until totally incorporated. Throw in your paneer and gently stir until well coated in curry.
Serve hot immediately, with either basmati rice or naan/roti on the side. Drizzle with cream to serve, if desired.

The lazy Susan was quickly filled with dishes as we continued with our reunion dinner. The Prawn Paste Chicken (虾酱鸡) featured plump and juicy mid-wings coated in a batter of fermented shrimp paste. Also known as Har Cheong Gai, it is crispy with an umami aftertaste and a hit with young and old.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The stir-fried French Bean with Dried Shrimp (虾米四季豆) might look deceptively plain but plain and simple it is not! The string beans or green beans is flash-fried with minced hae bee (dried shrimps) to absorb the wok hei (wok thermal radiation or breath of the wok) yet maintained the crunchy texture and aroma of the sea (dried shrimp). This dish was one of the highlights of the dinner.
Tumblr media
My nephew asked for this Fried Rice with Chicken (鸡丁炒饭) as he preferred it over the steamed white rice the rest of us are having. The Yam Ring (佛钵飘香) featured a ring of deep-fried mashed yam (taro) and filled with sautéed seafood such as prawn, squid and also various vegetables. Normally one would also find cashew nuts in it, but I didn’t notice any this time. Plating is done haphazardly as the chef just poured everything into the yam ring. If I will to do it, I would place the vegetables at the bottom and present the seafood on top with a sprinkle of crunchy cashew nuts over it. Anyway, dish is passable but not fantastic in taste and an “F” for presentation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Popeye’s power booster canned vegetable is reimagined into Spinach with Trio Eggs (三皇苋菜). To enhance the power, three kinds of egg are used – normal chicken egg, preserved century egg and salted duck egg. Finally, the eyes is also protected with goji berry or wolfberry added into the thick soup. With all the above ingredients used, how can a vegetable soup like this not be good for you?
Tumblr media
Fish Maw & Crab Meat Soup (蟹肉鱼鳔羮) is the most expensive dish of the night at S$45 (large portion) due to the two premium ingredients. The thickened soup is chocked with the spongy fish maw, succulent crab meat and I also detected mushrooms in there. Before eating, drizzle a few drops of the black vinegar and add a dash of white pepper.
Tumblr media
The Emperor Chicken (皇帝鸡) is also known as herbal chicken. In the olden days, the emperor’s diet was strictly prescribed and monitored by physicians, because it was important for the emperor to be in excellent health in order to focus on governing the Kingdom. This was one of the healthy dishes the emperor ate! The chicken is wrapped in the waxed paper and aluminum foil then steamed for a few hours until the meat is tender and the flavours of the herbs is infused into the chicken.
Tumblr media
The last dish to be served is the Poached Prawns (白灼虾). If the ingredients are fresh, you just need minimum condiments and simple cooking style to bring out the best in taste. So here the prawns are boiled in basically water, ginger and scallion for a couple of minutes at most. Chinese cooking wine is then drizzled into the broth to enhance the overall flavours.
Tumblr media
For this reunion meal, we spent S$331.76 for the dishes, steamed rice and drinks including 10% service charge. I can foresee the next year we will be back here for our dinner again. After all the food is good and the place is nearby our houses.
